They might have fallen short of their ultimate goal of playing to the final weekend of the college basketball season in early April, but the 2022-23 Kansas men’s basketball team still has a few dates set for next month.

The 2023 Kansas barnstorming tour soon will be landing in Dodge City on April 14 (6:30 p.m. at Dodge City Community College’s Dome), in Wichita on April 15 (3 p.m. at Friends University’s Garvey Center) and in Pittsburg on April 16 (2 p.m. at John Lance Arena).

Tickets for the event, which will be hosted through a partnership between G1 Sports and KU’s Mass Street Collective, can be purchased through the collective’s web site — www.massstrategies.com — and, according to a news release announcing the dates, the collective has secured contractual agreements with 14 members of the 2022-23 KU team, including all five starters from this season’s team.

Those players expected to attend include: Dajuan Harris Jr., Gradey Dick, Kevin McCullar Jr., Jalen Wilson, KJ Adams, Ernest Udeh Jr., Zuby Ejiofor, Joe Yesufu, MJ Rice, Kyle Cuffe Jr. and walk-ons Wilder Evers, Charlie McCarthy, Dillon Wilhite and Michael Jankovich.

Former KU great, Jeff Boschee, now the head coach at Pitt State University, is also expected to be involved on the final day of the tour.

As in the past, fans who purchase either VIP ($150) or reserved ($100) tickets will be able to meet some of their favorite players and participate in an autograph session. There are also tickets available for $20 (general admission) and $35 (general admission with a digitally autographed poster) for each of the three sites.

New to the 2023 barnstorming experience will be additional programming to provide more fan interaction with the players.

That will include an on-court event, a Q&A session with the players, as well as a skills challenge, which will feature the Jayhawks teaming up with randomly selected members of the crowd to participate in a team relay, shooting drills and half-court shot attempts for prizes.

Fans can also purchase exclusive Barnstorming Tour T-Shirts and merchandise through an online auction, as well as previously autographed memorabilia at all three stops.

Barnstorming Tour allows KU basketball players to hold on to their season a little longer

PITTSBURG — Inside John Lance Arena, smiles and laughs were rampant among the many Kansas men’s basketball players there.

This was Sunday in Pittsburg, during the last stop of the 2023 Barnstorming Tour that followed the team’s 2022-23 season. The past two days of the three-day, three-city tour around the state of Kansas had seen these Jayhawk athletes greet crowds in both Dodge City and Wichita. And if there was any fatigue from the travel, the excitement of those eager to meet the players they admired was there to provide a boost.

So much will look different when the coach Bill Self-led Kansas Jayhawks take the floor next season for their season opener. So much of the months ahead will be about Kansas’ new-look roster trying to build the necessary chemistry to defend the program’s latest Big 12 Conference regular-season title. But the 2023 Barnstorming Tour provided the 2022-23 Jayhawks in attendance a chance to hold on to their season together a little bit longer.

“I think it just gives us a chance to have our last, kind of, hangouts, and last for a while because all guys are going different ways,” said Jalen Wilson, who’s declared for the NBA draft. “Obviously, it’s not the same, because we don’t have the whole team here. Guys transferred. But it’s still fun times, fun times just to bond with the guys.”

Wilson praised the fans at each stop they made, and noted it feels great to be able to have this moment with them. Last year, just like this year, he approached the tour as if it would be the last chapter of his time at Kansas because he had his mind set on turning pro. But unlike last year, this year he really is going to turn pro and start that new chapter of his life.

Kevin McCullar Jr., another veteran who’s going to go through the NBA’s pre-draft process, had not been a part of this tour before because he started his college career at Texas Tech. To be a part of it, after what could be his first and only season with the Jayhawks this past season, exceeded his expectations. He thought it was cool that they were able to travel to different communities that might not get to come to Lawrence as often as others.

Wilson will remember the bus rides and more from this year’s tour. McCullar will remember being able to spend time on the court with the kids who came to see them, because he can remember how fun it was to be in their position when he was growing up. The simplicity of all the interactions the tour provided them is in part what makes the tour itself special.

“Just taking it all in, I was just enjoying every day of it with the guys,” McCullar said. “A lot of us are about to go do different things, and be working out and stuff, so it was cool to be able to spend some more time with them.”

After winning the national championship last week, Kansas is doing what past champions could not do: cashing in.

The Kansas "Barnstorming Tour" will begin on April 23 at a high school in Wichita, Kansas. For tickets ranging from $30 to $125, fans can get autographs, participate in a Q&A session, join a skills training session and attend a VIP dinner.

All tickets include an autograph from players, and pictures are available with an extra fee.

New NIL rules have allowed Kansas to be the first college basketball team to make money off its national title run. Per Front Office Sports, players will get 70% of the revenue on the tour and 100% of the revenue from items that are auctioned.

Christian Braun , David McCormack , Ochai Agbaji (Most Outstanding Player), DaJuan Harris Jr. and Jalen Wilson are all set to participate, according to the tour's website.

Jayhawks kick off Barnstorming tour in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Once KU Basketball fans heard that the NCAA national champions were coming to Wichita to kick off their Barnstorming tour, tickets started selling out.

Lois and Kyson Kimble are one of many families who spent the day waiting in line to see some of their favorite Kansas basketball players.

Lois and Kyson say, “we were very excited. I love the KU. Ever since they won the championship, I was like, this is the most fun place ever. To meet the players and have our items signed. We have our basement decorated in KU.”

Event organizers say so many people showed up Saturday that they had to extend the autograph portion by 45 minutes to accommodate the massive line of general admission fans.

Ochai Agbaji, KU’s star player, said, “I saw the line on one side, and there were screaming fans when we got off the bus. KU runs deep out here, too, so it’s great to see the turnout.” The VIP tickets for this event sold out, allowing them to meet and greet players before the hundreds of general admission ticket holders. Regardless, fans were star-struck.

KU players, personnel, and Wichita east staff hope to make this a yearly event.
