WASHINGTON – Chief Agricultural Negotiator Doug McKalip will travel to Singapore from June 3 to June 6 to participate in events highlighting the 20th anniversary of the U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement and the robust trading relationship shared between the United States and Singapore. While there, he will participate in meetings relating to the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF). Ambassador McKalip will also participate in bilateral meetings with IPEF partner nations and engage with U.S. agricultural industry stakeholders.

Trump may face travel restrictions in some countries after his New York conviction

Former President Donald Trump, whose administration imposed multiple versions of a travel ban against people coming from Muslim-majority nations, may now face restrictions on his own international travel, following his felony conviction in New York Thursday. 

At this point, Trump faces no specific travel restrictions from Justice Juan Merchan, who presided over the "hush money" criminal trial in New York, in which the former president was found guilty of 34 felony counts. His sentencing is scheduled to take place on July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention, which will formalize his nomination to the presidency. Trump, who's in the middle of a presidential campaign and has  three other criminal trials pending, has announced no international travel plans. 

The U.S. doesn't allow foreigners with felony convictions to enter the country, and neither do a number of other countries. Allies including the U.K. and Australia have strict restrictions on traveling there as a convicted felon, according to the European Travel Information and Authorisation System. Canada, which will be hosing the G7 summit of world leaders in 2025, also has strict requirements for visitors with a criminal history. And felons are banned from entering China. 

But it's possible international leaders would make exceptions for Trump if he wins the presidency again. Former President George W. Bush had to apply for a special waiver to enter Canada on an official state visit, because he had pleaded guilty decades earlier to a 1976 drunk driving charge. And that was a misdemeanor offense, not a felony. 

Trump has plans to renew and revamp travel restrictions to the U.S., if he's president again. Last year, he said he would bring back a travel ban "even bigger than before," alluding to his administration's restrictions on travelers from several countries that have largely Muslim populations. 

The Supreme Court eventually upheld a version of his travel ban, 5-4, in 2018. Chief Justice John Roberts, wrote in the majority opinion that presidents have substantial power to regulate immigration. "The sole prerequisite," Roberts wrote, is "that the entry of the covered aliens 'would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.' The President has undoubtedly fulfilled that requirement here." He also noted that Trump had ordered an evaluation of every country's compliance with the risk assessment baseline and then issued the findings.

When he talks about the spike in numbers of undocumented migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, the former president also regularly paints them broadly as "criminals."

"So we are moving criminals out of our country, and we are getting them out in record numbers, and those are the people we are after," the former president said toward the beginning of his term during a 2017 interview with the Associated Press. 

As he awaits his sentencing in the "hush money" case, Trump maintains he did nothing wrong. 

"I'm willing to do whatever I have to do to save our country and to save our Constitution. I don't mind," he said in remarks at Trump Tower on Friday.

Donald Trump Faces Travel Ban To 37 Countries

F ormer President Donald Trump , now a convicted felon, could face significant travel restrictions as many countries around the world enforce strict immigration policies against individuals with criminal records.

The Context

Donald Trump was recently found guilty on all counts in a high-profile hush money case. The charges stemmed from payments made during his 2016 presidential campaign to adult film star Stormy Daniels , aimed at silencing her allegations of an affair. The New York jury's verdict marked a historic moment as Trump became the first former U.S. president to be convicted of felony crimes while actively seeking another term in office. He has maintained his innocence and said the trial was politically motivated.

What We Know

Countries around the world implement stringent entry requirements to protect their citizens and maintain national security. According to the World Population Review, G7 nations Canada, the United Kingdom and Japan have established policies that prohibit entry to individuals with felony convictions. Additionally, Israel and China also impose such bans. These regulations often result in automatic denial of visas or entry permits to convicted felons, potentially impacting Trump's ability to travel internationally.

Based on data from the World Population Review, here is a list of countries that do not allow convicted felons to enter:

• New Zealand
• South Africa
• United Kingdom
• United States

Additionally, there are further countries that Trump may now be denied entry to. Not all countries actively check from criminal records at the border, but they will deny entry if a convicted felon is discovered. The following countries implement this:

• Dominican Republic
• Philippines
• South Korea
• United Arab Emirates

Reactions to the trial and its outcomes have been polarized. Supporters of Trump, including various Republican figures, argue that the trial was politically motivated and unfair. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter , "President Trump did nothing wrong, and even the liberal media knows it. The judge violated Trump's constitutional rights and did everything in his power to get this outcome despite the clear evidence Trump was innocent."

In an opinion piece for Newsweek , talk show host Mark Davis wrote that "Thursday's guilty verdict in a Manhattan courtroom on 34 counts is still a sad new low for an American justice system that is supposedly based on facts, evidence, judges who preside fairly, and juries that decide coherently."

Conversely, some legal experts and critics have emphasized the importance of accountability and the rule of law. New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, said after the verdict on X that "No one is above the law." James' business fraud suit against Trump led to him being found liable for defrauding lenders and insurers.

In an opposing opinion piece to Davies for Newsweek , former judge Thomas G. Moukawsher wrote: "Trump's conviction is something to be proud of because it affirms a fundamental American value—no one in this country is above the law. Trump seems to have lived his life thinking that the rules constraining ordinary mortals don't apply to him."

What's Next

As Trump faces potential fines and even jail time, his legal team has already signaled plans to appeal the verdict. Despite these legal hurdles, Trump continues to campaign for the 2024 presidential election— a campaign that could be complicated by the potential travel restrictions imposed by various countries.

Indian badminton players PV Sindhu has invested in Greenday’s ‘Better Nutrition’ brand and become brand ambassador of the D2C brand.

This collaboration aims to combat micronutrient deficiencies in India through innovative biofortified foods, enhancing both consumer health and farmer livelihoods, the company said in a press release.

Founded by Prateek Rastogi and Aishwarya Bhatnagar, Greenday is increasing the nutritional value of staple crops, allowing consumers to access essential vitamins and minerals through their everyday meals. 

The firm works closely with farmers, educating, empowering, and incentivizing them to cultivate nutrient-dense crop varieties. The startup currently operates about 75 agri-input stores and procurement centres across the country under its Greenday ‘Kisan ki Dukan’ brand. Its FMCG brand ‘Better Nutrition’, uses biofortification, a transformative method that enhances the nutritional value of crops from the seed stage. 

The product range includes biofortified Atta, Rice, Bajra, Ragi, and Makka, enriched with minerals and vitamins such as Zinc, Iron, Protein, Pro-Vitamin A, and Calcium.

PV Sindhu also endorses brands such as Spinny, Bank of Baroda, Asian Paints, and Bridgestone India.

I will be traveling to Krasnodar sometime during the spring of 2010 but I have a couple of questions. I will be traveling from the US and want to know if I will have to travel via Moscow or if there is a more direct route either from Ukraine, Europe, or even Turkey. I'm assuming that Krasnodar does not have an international airport.

It does not have an international airport. You will have to make a transfer in Moscow.

I was afraid of that, but thank you for the information. It will be a long trip.

By the way - there 3 international airports in Krasnodar Krai. Krasnodar (Pashkovsky), Sochi (Adler) and Anapa.

10 Things to Do in Sochi If You Love Nature

Host to 2014 Winter Olympics , Sochi is now mostly known for the snowy slopes of Krasnaya Polyana and Rosa Khutor Alpine resort. However, the “Russian Riviera” is much more than a glorified ski-resort. With its picturesque waterfalls and pristine lakes, alpine meadows and spruce-fir forests, snow-capped mountains and dreamy river valleys, Sochi is an ultimate nature lover’s dream.

Founded in the middle of the 19th century, this village only consists of two streets and two lanes. Circled by a picturesque chestnut forest, Aul Tkhagapsh is surrounded by many visually-arresting natural landmarks – a mysterious rock formation called “the canyon of a hundred crying eyes”, beautiful waterfalls with organically formed stone basins and the Tiger cave, which is called so because of the whimsical clay dripstones. Despite its tiny size, the village itself has a lot to offer. You can see the only wooden mosque on the coast, learn about the customs and traditions of the Adyghe people, try on traditional clothes and taste authentic food and local wines.

If you love picturesque ancient ruins put the Loo Temple on your must-see list. Drowning in the lush greenery of the Sochi National Park, Loo Temple is the remains of a 10th-century Byzantine temple, that’s been ruined and reconstructed multiple times. The temple was used as a place of worship and a fortification over the years.

Aibga Ridge

This spectacular mountain ridge stretches for 23 kilometers and has the Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort nestled at its feet. The ridge comprises of 10 peaks, with the four tallest being the best known: Aigba peak I (2391 m), peak II (2450,5 m), peak III (2462,7 m) and Black Pyramid (2375,3 m). Save a day or two to explore the ridge, full of rapid rivers, alpine meadows and waterfalls.

Achepsinskie Waterfalls

To admire the spectacular views that Achepsinskie Waterfalls offer, you’ll have to endure a pretty tiring trekking route through the Achishkho Mountain to the Achipse River. But those striking panoramas are totally worth the sweat and while the trekking may be tough going, it has a very decent infrastructure.

Khmelevskie Lakes

Located almost 2000 meters above sea level, Khmelevskie Lakes is an alpine lake system, named after the Russian botanist Vikenty Khmelevsky. Spread around emerald-green alpine meadows and surrounded by lush green forests, there are four rather sizable overgrown lakes and a few smaller ones.

Lake Kardyvach

Arguably the most popular tourist spot near Sochi, Lake Kardyvach is simply breathtaking. Situated 44 kilometers from the Krasnaya Polyana resort at the altitude of 1838 meters, the lake stays frozen for seven to eight months a year and even in summer the water temperature is never hotter than 12℃. The water in the lake changes its color depending on the time of year: in spring it turns green and in autumn it becomes dark blue, and no matter what season, it’s unbelievably clear. Akhshtyrskaya Cave

A unique monument of prehistoric architecture, Akhshtyrskaya Cave is set on the right side of Akhshtyrskaya Gorge, about 120m above the Mzymta River and 185m above sea level. The cave begins with a 20m corridor and then gets divided into two halls, 10m and 8m wide. The cave has been heavily explored by archaeologists, who discovered traces of Neanderthal culture dating back to 40,000 BC.

Shakhe River

Sochi’s second most significant river, Shakhe begins high in the mountains and flows down to the Black Sea . 59 kilometers long, the river has some amazing natural attractions in its valley: Dzhegosh Gorge, 33 waterfalls, stone lake basins, ancient oak trees, rare plant life and so much more.
