These 10 Countries Are Worth Visiting In All Seasons

Find out why these countries are ideal to visit in all seasons, making it easier for travelers to check them off their bucket lists.

Sometimes travelers don’t have a lot of flexibility in terms of when they can take their trips; there are many factors to consider, such as work schedules, the schedules of individuals they’re traveling with, and the best time of year to visit their desired destination. However, when traveling to any of these 10 countries, there is no wrong time of year to visit for the best possible experience. Each of these destinations is beautiful in its own way during every season, allowing travelers the flexibility to check a dream country off their bucket list at any time.

Iceland has become a popular travel destination in recent years because of its unique lava rock landscapes, volcanoes, glaciers, and waterfalls. One of the best parts of visiting Iceland is that it offers unforgettable and unique experiences during different seasons. In winter (December to March) the days are shorter and the average temperatures range from -10ºC to -1ºC . This is the perfect time to see the Aurora Borealis lighting up the night sky , explore ice caves on a guided tour, or soak in a hot spring.

In summer (June to September) the days are long, giving travelers a chance to experience the midnight sun. The temperatures are mild, ranging from 2ºC to 12ºC , allowing visitors to camp around the country for a budget getaway.

Japan is truly stunning in all four seasons, making it challenging for travelers to choose when to visit. In the spring (specifically March and April) travelers can experience the beauty of Sakura Season when cherry blossoms are in full bloom and temperatures are mild, ranging from 5ºC to 19ºC on average in Tokyo . Summer in Japan is hot and humid, so this is the ideal time to head to the coast for some beach time. Summer is also the only time of year that visitors can attempt to summit the iconic Mount Fuji (July to September).

In the fall, the leaves on the trees turn to incredible shades of orange, yellow, and red, creating a beautiful backdrop for hiking and photography. Winter in Japan is cool, with snow falling in some parts of the country. Hokkaido prefecture is especially known as a winter destination for skiing. The lower temperatures make soaking in an Onsen (hot bath) even more appealing.

Canada is well known for its snowy winters, which are beloved by skiers and snowmobilers alike. However, the vast country is just as magical during the summer (June to September) when temperatures in the southern part of the country are warm. Travelers can go hiking in Alberta, wine tasting in Kelowna, camping in Algonquin Park, or swimming in one of the country’s many freshwater lakes.

In autumn (September to December) the temperatures are cool, and the leaves change color, making it the perfect time of year for outdoor enthusiasts to go hiking. In Alberta, the larches are a vibrant yellow at the end of September and the beginning of October. In Ontario, near Toronto, the maple trees turn vibrant shades of yellow and orange at the beginning to middle of October.

Europe is a quintessential summer travel destination for North Americans, but countries like Germany are beautiful year-round. In the spring and fall, prices are lower, crowds are fewer, and temperatures in the capital range from 0ºC (in March) to 20ºC (in May and September).

During the winter months (December to March), Berlin faces average temperatures as low as -2ºC . The country boasts charming Christmas markets as the holiday season approaches.

6 New Zealand

Since New Zealand is in the Southern Hemisphere, its seasons contrast those in North America, allowing Americans to escape the cold winter months by heading to New Zealand for summer (December to March). During New Zealand’s summer, temperatures average anywhere from 15ºC to 24ºC , and visitors enjoy hiking trails like the Milford Track and swimming at the beaches.

New Zealand’s autumn takes place between March and May, while their spring is from September to December. During these months, temperatures are mild to cool, making it pleasant to spend time outdoors. Snow appears in New Zealand during the winter, typically between June and October, depending on where travelers are in the country. The North Island receives the most rainfall during the winter months, while this is the season with the least precipitation for the South Island. During winter, head to the South Island for snow sports like skiing and snowboarding at some incredible resorts.

Peru only has two main seasons, the wet season (November to March) and the dry season (April to October). While it might sound like the dry season is the prime time to visit for clear skies, consistent weather, and sunshine, the rainy season offers warmer temperatures. Travelers planning a trek to Machu Picchu via the Inca Trail or another hiking route will probably find the dry season is best for less slippery conditions. However, anyone visiting to explore the cities of Lima, Cusco, or Arequipa can have a wonderful experience year-round as long as they remember their rain poncho.

4 United States

The United States is a vast country with varied climates and seasonal temperatures throughout. This means that regardless of the time of year you’re traveling, there’s a destination that meets your needs. On the west coast, south and central California offer moderate temperatures year-round. In the spring (March to May) visitors should head to Central Park in New York City to see the picturesque cherry blossoms and enjoy temperate weather. New England on the country’s East Coast is an idyllic fall location with vibrant red, yellow, and orange leaves on the trees.

During the summer months (June to September) many travelers want to enjoy blue skies and sunshine in Boulder, Colorado, Lake Tahoe, California, or Portland, Maine. In the winter months, visitors can go skiing in Colorado and Vermont, or escape to the beach in Florida.

3 Argentina

South America is a country with diverse landscapes and climates. Unlike Peru, Argentina is located at the southern tip of the continent and experiences four seasons instead of two. Travelers planning to go hiking in Patagonia will find they can enjoy Argentina in all seasons, although conditions are kindest during spring (September to November), summer (December to February), and fall (March to May).

During the winter, visitors can still explore Patagonian Argentina via El Chalten. Temperatures range from 3ºC to 17ºC during this time and snow is possible, creating a magical landscape among the mountain peaks.

Finland is an exciting country to visit throughout the year. Summer activities like swimming, hiking, canoeing, and fishing are abundant thanks to the wild landscapes outside the capital of Helsinki. In the winter, many travelers head north to the capital of Finnish Lapland, Rovaniemi. Here, the temperatures range from -1ºC to -17ºC on average and snow is bountiful. Visitors will find themselves in a true winter wonderful with reindeer, igloo accommodation options, sleigh rides, dog sledding excursions, and more.

1 South Africa

Since South Africa is located south of the equator, the four seasons here are opposite of North America. Summer (December to February) is an enjoyable time of year to visit with temperatures in Cape Town and the southern coast reaching 28ºC on average . Travelers can explore the city, head to Boulders Beach to see the penguins, or rent a car and drive the garden route into wine country.

Winter temperatures remain mild around the legislative capital, averaging between 7ºC to 19ºC between June to August. Prices are more affordable, making this a great time to explore the country in the off-season.

Jennifer helped us plan a European vacation that included stops in Geneva, Bellagio, and Venice. She really listened to what was important to us, and made it happen. All flights, trains, and ground transportation worked perfectly. I appreciated her flexibility as some of our plans needed to change. She also gave us some very helpful tips about navigating around Europe.

Thank you Rosemary. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I really enjoyed working with you and am so glad you had a great trip.

What makes working with Jennifer great is the time and effort she puts in to making your travel the best it can be. She started the process with getting to know my husband and I. Then she put together different options for us to look at and choose. When we asked questions, she got back to us. We started looking into our trip 9 months prior because it was important to us. She also made it important for her to get us exactly what we wanted. The end result was a 30th Anniversary trip we will never forget. Thanks Jennifer!

Jenifer helped us plan our 20 year anniversary trip to Europe. We were all over the place with where we wanted to go. She took time to ask us about our interested and help us narrow down the places to go and things to do. She booked all of the hotels, travel (with the exception of airfare due to having miles we could use -although she would have happily done the airfare for us as well), and tours. We spent 10 days traveling across Italy (3 days in Rome with a day trip to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, 2 days in Florence, 3 days in Tuscany, and 2 days in Venice), and finished off with 5 days in the UK (Bath and London). We had some of the best tours, food, and experiences on our trip. We only had one issue with a prepaid tour, but Jenifer and the tour company were able to get it resolved quickly so that we did not miss out on any of our plans. For our anniversary, we relaxed at a spa in Bath and had a surprise bottle of champagne, chocolates, and roses from Jenifer. If I could give more stars I would. I cannot recommend Jenifer enough. We will be using her again.

I can't say enough about how wonderful it's been working with Jennifer at All Seasons. She listens, is very responsive, and makes everything so easy! We've been using her for a couple of years now and it's been the best decision we could have made when it come to travel planning.

Thank you Chandra! I love helping y’all have great vacations!

Jennifer is the first travel agent I've ever worked with and working with her has been a wonderful experience! My family first contacted her about booking a cruise - we were looking for a specific length, timeframe, and itinerary. Jennifer presented us with multiple options through different cruise lines as well as providing recommendations about which cruise line might fit our needs best. It was such a timesaver for us to not have to do all the research ourselves! She has since booked several more cruises for us as well as an international travel package to Greece. Even though we usually select our own excursions and activities, Jennifer has always been ready to help as much or as little as we need. Booking through a travel agent has its benefits which we have quickly discovered. She handles the logistics of reservations, dining times, and linking itineraries between parties. In a few cases she has helped us out with complications such as switching out passengers and working through flight delays. Thank you, Jennifer!!

Thank you Christina for sharing your experiences. I absolutely love working with you and your family and look forward to helping you plan many trips in the future!

I appreciate how Jennifer started the process by getting to know our family and how we could weave in components to serve needs across multiple ages. She found us a home to stay in Seattle that had bunk beds for the four kids and a cozy kitchen nook for my friend and I to enjoy a morning tea while our husbands slept in. The place was in a safe neighborhood with excellent transportation options to get us downtown. Most importantly, when we hit airport snags (cancellation just 12 hours before our flight), Jennifer sat on the phone with us to problem solve our options for reaching our destination. Ultimately, I'm just so glad we decided to work through Jennifer rather than go it alone.

Moscow Travel Guide: Best Things to Do + More [2023]

· everything to know about visiting moscow, including the best things to do and how to get around. ·.

the red st basils church in moscow on a white winters day

Moscow is Russia’s vibrant capital city, and it also happens to be the largest city in all of Europe. The city’s long and infamous history makes it one of the most unique places we have ever visited.

The architecture ranges from centuries-old palaces to uniform, gray concrete buildings. The people range from cold and private to warm and welcoming. Moscow is a city is strong juxtapositions, and we learned a lot during our time there.

This post will break down all you need to know about visiting Moscow, including the best things to do, how to get there, how to get around, and more.

The Best Things to Do in Moscow

1. explore the red square.

The Red Square is the heart of Moscow. Most of the city’s top attractions can be found here, including just about everything on this list. The Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral, and Lenin’s Mausoleum are all located here, and the State Historical Museum and GUM are not far from here, either.

The Red Square is a common home for parades, protests, and seasonal celebrations. There are massive Christmas celebrations here, with food vendors and carnival rides set up in numbers.

2. Check Out the Ziferblat

The Ziferblat is a café in Moscow that is unlike any café we have ever been to. While most cafes charge you for your drinks and food, the Ziferblat charges you for your time.

Upon arrival, you are given a clock. When you leave, the barista calculates how much time you spent in the café and charges you accordingly. This concept was created to help visitors to be more intentional with their time, and the cafe itself is incredibly charming.

For a detailed look at everything you need to know before you visit, make sure you read my post about visiting the Ziferblat Cafe in Moscow .

3. Marvel at St. Basil’s Cathedral

St. Basil’s Cathedral is one of the most iconic churches in the world, and it was the single thing we were most excited to see while in Moscow. Built almost 500 years ago, St. Basil’s Cathedral is recognized by its colorful domes and whimsical style. The church is of the Russian Orthodox faith, and the inside is just as wondrous as the outside.

St. Basil’s Cathedral is located on the edge of the Red Square, making it incredibly convenient to visit. Entrance for non-worshippers costs 800 rubles, and tickets can be bought at the church

4. Explore the Kremlin

The Kremlin is the largest active fortress in Europe, and it is the site of most of Russia’s government affairs. In addition to government buildings, the Kremlin Complex is filled with courtyards, towers, and museums that are open to the public. If you have the time, you could spend a couple of days fully exploring all that there is to see in the Kremlin.

5. Walk Through Lenin’s Mausoleum

Vladimir Lenin is one of the most important figures in Russian history, and his body is located perfectly embalmed in a mausoleum in the Red Square. The Mausoleum is open to the public to visit, and as long as you are willing to go through a few security checks, it is easily one of the best things to do in Moscow. Its convenient location in the Red Square makes it a can’t miss attraction.

There is absolutely no photography allowed inside the Mausoleum. Do not test this rule.

6. Wander Along Arbat Street

The Arbat is a very popular street in Moscow that is lined with stores, cafes, and other touristy attractions. It is one of the oldest streets in the city, dating back to the 1400s. This street is both quaint and trendy, and there are many walking tours that introduce tourists to the neighborhood’s wonders and highlights.

7. Catch a Show at the Bolshoi Theatre

As a lover of the arts, it is hard to think of Moscow and not think of ballet. Russia has always been a top dog in the world of fine arts, and Bolshoi Theater is one of the best places to catch a performance. We were lucky enough to attend an Opera here, and it is a venue that you don’t want to miss out on if you enjoy opera, ballet, or orchestral performances.

8. Visit the State Historical Museum

The State Historical Museum is one of the most respected museums in Moscow. Despite its name, it is not really focused on the history of Russia as a nation. Rather, it contains a collection of artifacts from all throughout Russia’s history.

The museum’s collection is very broad in nature. It houses some items from indigenous tribes that used to occupy the region, pieces collected by the Romanov family, and more.

9. Wander Around GUM

GUM is an absolutely massive mall within walking distance of the Red Square. It isn’t just the size that draws visitors here; it’s the sense of luxury. The mall is so beautiful inside, much like the metro stations.

While visiting a mall might not sound like it belongs on a bucket list, this mall does. You will not want to miss out on visiting GUM while in Moscow.

people walking inside GUM mall in russia with christmas lights

10. Admire the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour

While St. Basil’s Cathedral is the most iconic church in Moscow, it isn’t the only one. The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is absolutely stunning, with massive golden domes. It is the tallest Orthodox church in the world, and it is the seat of the Orthodox Patriarch of Moscow.

It is located just about a mile from the Red Square, just south of the Kremlin Complex. You can walk to it from the Red Square in about 20 minutes.

How to Get to Moscow

Flying to moscow.

Moscow has three major international airports: Sheremetyevo (SVO) , Domodedovo (DMO) , and Vnukovo (VKO) . All three of them are directly connected to downtown Moscow by the Aeroexpress trains, which leave every 30 minutes throughout the day. By Aeroexpress train, you can expect to get to the city center in 25-45 minutes depending on the airport that you fly into.

Sheremetyevo is the biggest and busiest of the three airports, and it is the one you are most likely to fly into – especially if you are coming from outside of Europe or the Caucus region. We flew into Sheremetyevo on a direct flight from New York City.

I usually provide backup airport options, because flying right into the city isn’t always the cheapest way to get where you’re going. Unfortunately, when it comes to Moscow, don’t really have a choice other than to fly right into Moscow. It is a very remote city, and it is usually the cheapest place to fly into in Russia as a whole.

Since Sheremetyevo is so busy, you will probably find a great flight option anyway. I wrote in  my post about finding cheap flights  that using hub airports will lead to more affordable airfare, and the same logic applies here. Even though Russia’s national airline, Aeroflot, is no longer a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, Moscow is still a major hub connecting passengers from all over the world.

Train or Bus to Moscow

Trains and buses are one of the most popular ways to get around Europe. However, they’re of very little use when you’re trying to get to Moscow.

Moscow is hundreds of miles from the nearest major cities. The only major European city that can even be reached within 8 hours on the ground is St. Petersburg, and even the Baltic capitals of Riga, Vilnius, and Tallinn are over 12 hours away.

If you want to get to Moscow, the best option is almost always to fly. While the train routes to Moscow are scenic, they simply take forever.

How to Get Around Moscow

METRO | TROLLEYS | TRAMS | BUSES

Moscow has one of the most memorable metro systems in the world. Its metro lines are very deep underground, and the stations are absolutely stunning. Each station has its own unique style, but all of them contain escalators that seem to go on forever.

turned-on chandelier on ceiling of moscow metro

The system was built in an effort to showcase the power of the Soviet Union and its bright future. The plans were a form of propaganda, but they resulted in what is still one of the most visually appealing subway systems on earth.

Moscow’s metro system isn’t just pretty. It is also very useful and accessible. The system has 17 lines that connect the city and its surrounding area.

But wait; there’s more!

The Moscow metro system is also incredibly affordable, with each ride costing less than a dollar. The metro is by far the best way to get around Moscow, as it is almost impossible to beat the connection times and the low cost to ride.

Tickets can be bought at electronic, English-speaking kiosks in stations, or directly from ticket counters at certain larger stations. There are also day passes available, which are a very solid option if you plan on riding the metro several times per day.

The metro is by far the best way to get around Moscow.

In addition to the metro system, Moscow also has a network of buses, trams, and trolleys. This system is nowhere near as convenient or well-connected as the metro, though, and is likely of little use to you during your trip. There is no Uber in Moscow, but a similar app named Yandex is available if you need a ride in a pinch.

How Many Days Do You Need in Moscow?

Moscow is the biggest city in all of Europe, and it is absolutely loaded with things to do. You could spend weeks in Moscow and still find new things to do. Of course, most travelers don’t have that kind of time to spend in one place!

I recommend spending no less than three full days in Moscow, and ideally closer to five or seven.

Moscow is very spread out, and it can take some time to get from one major point to another. There are also so many places that are nice to just sit back and relax, which is hard to do when you’re in a hurry trying to cram activities into just a few days.

If you only have a week to visit Russia, I’d advise spending all of the time in one city. If you decide to split your time between Moscow and St. Petersburg, I recommend not trying to squeeze in any day trips beyond those two cities.

When Is the Best Time of the Year to Visit Moscow?

There are two different ways to approach this question. Personally, I think the best time to visit Moscow is around Christmas and New Year’s Day. While the weather will be absolutely freezing, Moscow is a surreal winter wonderland in December and January.

We were in Moscow right before Christmas. While it was very cold, you can always bundle up. Exploring the Christmas markets and pop-up ice skating rinks throughout Moscow is one of my favorite memories from anywhere I’ve traveled, and I dream of going back to do it again.

If you aren’t fond of the cold, Moscow is beautiful in the summer. It tends to get pretty cold in the shoulder seasons, so if you want warm weather, you should plan to visit in the summer. Moscow actually gets pretty warm in July and August, and there are a bunch of fantastic places to soak up the sun within the city.

The best time to visit Moscow is either around Christmas or from late May to August.

Is Moscow Safe to Visit?

While Moscow is a truly wonderful city, there’s no denying that visiting Russia comes with risks. As the country is run by an infamous communist dictator, concerns about visiting are valid. While we didn’t experience any sort of threat or negative treatment during our time in Moscow, we visited in a peaceful time.

In our experience, Russia doesn’t seem to detain normal Americans or Westerners to use as pawns. As a regular person, as long as you don’t commit any crimes, there is a slim chance you will run into any issues. However, Russia will not hesitate to enforce its laws against foreigners, and illegal behaviors will likely land you in a very compromising position.

Russia will not hesitate to enforce its laws against foreigners, and illegal behaviors will likely land you in a very compromising position.

To make matters worse, Russia has a bad reputation for gang violence. While the Russian mafia has very little interest in normal Western tourists, they won’t hesitate to pick a fight with anyone who ventures into their sphere of influence. If you seek out illegal substances or activities, you could be a target of the mafia.

If you seek out illegal substances or activities, you could be a target of the mafia.

Finally, since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, things are all very different. Russia is currently at war, and there are battles raging within 8 hours of Moscow. While it is still relatively safe to visit, that could change at any time as the war with Ukraine continues.

Is Moscow Worth Visiting?

Without a doubt, Moscow is worth visiting. It is one of the most unique major cities we have ever visited, and we hope to make it back one day. The Russian Orthodox churches are stunning, the city’s history is unlike any other, and the food is to die for.

While many visitors prefer St. Petersburg to Moscow, I think Moscow deserves a lot of hype of its own. Moscow is the beating heart of Russian culture and history, and it’s a place I highly recommend checking out if you have the chance.

Trump may face travel restrictions in some countries after his New York conviction

By Kathryn Watson

May 31, 2024 / 7:09 PM EDT / CBS News

Former President Donald Trump, whose administration imposed multiple versions of a travel ban against people coming from Muslim-majority nations, may now face restrictions on his own international travel, following his felony conviction in New York Thursday.

At this point, Trump faces no specific travel restrictions from Justice Juan Merchan, who presided over the "hush money" criminal trial in New York, in which the former president was found guilty of 34 felony counts. His sentencing is scheduled to take place on July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention, which will formalize his nomination to the presidency. Trump, who's in the middle of a presidential campaign and has  three other criminal trials pending, has announced no international travel plans.

The U.S. doesn't allow foreigners with felony convictions to enter the country, and neither do a number of other countries. Allies including the U.K. and Australia have strict restrictions on traveling there as a convicted felon, according to the European Travel Information and Authorisation System. Canada, which will be hosing the G7 summit of world leaders in 2025, also has strict requirements for visitors with a criminal history. And felons are banned from entering China.

But it's possible international leaders would make exceptions for Trump if he wins the presidency again. Former President George W. Bush had to apply for a special waiver to enter Canada on an official state visit, because he had pleaded guilty decades earlier to a 1976 drunk driving charge. And that was a misdemeanor offense, not a felony.

Trump has plans to renew and revamp travel restrictions to the U.S., if he's president again. Last year, he said he would bring back a travel ban "even bigger than before," alluding to his administration's restrictions on travelers from several countries that have largely Muslim populations.

The Supreme Court eventually upheld a version of his travel ban, 5-4, in 2018. Chief Justice John Roberts, wrote in the majority opinion that presidents have substantial power to regulate immigration. "The sole prerequisite," Roberts wrote, is "that the entry of the covered aliens 'would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.' The President has undoubtedly fulfilled that requirement here." He also noted that Trump had ordered an evaluation of every country's compliance with the risk assessment baseline and then issued the findings.

When he talks about the spike in numbers of undocumented migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, the former president also regularly paints them broadly as "criminals."

"So we are moving criminals out of our country, and we are getting them out in record numbers, and those are the people we are after," the former president said toward the beginning of his term during a 2017 interview with the Associated Press.

As he awaits his sentencing in the "hush money" case, Trump maintains he did nothing wrong.

"I'm willing to do whatever I have to do to save our country and to save our Constitution. I don't mind," he said in remarks at Trump Tower on Friday.

Summer travel season kicks off at Charleston International

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- This Memorial Day weekend has been one of the busiest for air travel in the past 20 years.

The TSA says they screened nearly 3 million people across the country on Friday alone, the highest single-day number in history, and the rush continues today.

It’s the unofficial start of summer and the kickoff of a bustling travel season.

“Busy busy busy,” airport employee Amanda Grant said.

Grant works at the luggage check-in counter at Charleston International and says it’s been non-stop all day.

“We’re always helping somebody, going inside, checking people in, it’s always just busy,” Grant said.

That’s typical during the summer season, the airport usually brings on more staff to help take on busy holiday weekends like this one.

“Definitely more hands, a lot more hands,” Grant said.

However, even with more help, some things are unavoidable.

We have seen several delays and cancellations on incoming and outgoing flights for reasons ranging from mechanical issues to weather in other parts of the country, inconveniences the Federal Aviation Administration hopes to address with new rules set to take effect this fall requiring airlines to quickly and automatically refund passengers for flight disruptions, and make hidden fees more visible.

All part of an effort to create a better experience for passengers.

It just clarifies things for consumers and for airlines,” visitor to Charleston, Wendy Burt said.

While there were disruptions to some itineraries, passengers News 2 spoke to say that overall, Charleston International has done a great job of managing the busy holiday weekend.

“It was easy. I got off the plane and got a Lyft to Charleston we stayed in a hotel that was right in the middle of everything which was really nice.:

Summer travel season kicks off at Charleston International

This airport has never lost a bag. For one chief handler, it's all about respect

The Kansai International Airport boasts a remarkable record since it opened 30 years ago.

As the summer travel season begins, thousands of bags will go missing at airports all over the world. It's a given at this point. But not at one particular airport in Japan that makes a stunning claim: it has never lost a piece of luggage.

Kansai International Airport opened in September 1994, on an artificial island in Osaka Bay, and its records state it has maintained a perfect baggage streak since.

That's a lot better than the U.S. can claim, with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics finding domestic flights lose 3 million bags every year.

Kansai Airport serves the city of Osaka and welcomed nearly 14 million passengers last year. It's also no stranger to accolades, having won an international award for best baggage delivery eight times.

For Tsuyoshi Habuta, who oversees baggage operations for one of the handling companies at Kansai, the record is a shared milestone.

"It requires responsibility and teamwork, and as a result, when the aircraft leaves on time, there’s a great sense of achievement," he told NPR through an interpreter.

Habuta has been working at Kansai Airport for 17 years. He says there are multiple layers of checks to ensure luggage doesn't go missing and that his team has a precise system for arranging bags before a departing flight.

Yet if you’re looking for a rousing inside scoop on Kansai’s baggage operations, you likely won’t find one. The airport insists there isn’t a secret sauce.

“It would be the result of the daily efforts and careful work of everyone involved, including airlines and handling companies,” airport spokesperson Momoka Wakabayashi said in an email. “We apologize if this would be not a specific answer.”

Kansai Airport is expecting an influx of travelers next year.

For Habuta, the prospect of losing bags simply comes down to right and wrong. He says it should not happen because luggage is precious to passengers. And while travelers may not see him, he still feels a strong commitment to their wellbeing.

"It's not the kind of thing that's in the limelight. It's more like a backstage role," Habuta says about his job, adding that he has made it his mission to keep passengers coming back to the airport.

"We are working hard to study and learn more each day so that we can make the passenger happy. I really think this is the spirit of Japanese hospitality," he says.

A hospitality, he says, that is about thoroughness and an attention to detail.

One of those details occurs when arrival baggage is brought to the carousel. He says his team places each suitcase with the handle facing outward, so that passengers can more easily grab their bag.

Next year, Kansai Airport is expecting the number of travelers passing through to nearly triple — to 37 million people. Osaka will host the World Expo in 2025, and is expected to draw more than 20 million visitors.

Habuta appears unfazed by the potential influx of additional luggage, and what this means for the airport's clean record.

"We are expecting a lot of growth of passengers," he says. "We want the airport to be an exciting, active, vitalized place for everyone to come and use."

Travel Wisconsin seeing 'really positive signs' heading into busy summer travel season

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - From Milwaukee to the Northwoods, all corners of Wisconsin attract visitors year-round.

The Badger State is an all-seasons destination for families, but Travel Wisconsin officials say summer historically is when the state sees the highest number of visitors.

“Kids are out of school so it’s easier for families to travel. The weather is fantastic,” Logan Wroge, Senior Communications Specialist with Travel Wisconsin, said. “We have 15,000 lakes, 84,000 miles of rivers and streams so if you want to get out on the boat, you can do that.”

Wroge says Memorial Day Weekend in particular is when the summer travel season starts.

“44 million Americans and 816,000 Wisconsinites that are going to leave town and find some reason to enjoy the long holiday weekend,” he said.

Wroge adds, the outlook for summer travel in Wisconsin in 2024 is looking positive.

“We’re seeing some really positive signs heading into the busy summer travel season that visitors are hungry to take a vacation,” he said.

According to AAA, this weekend is forecasted to be the second highest travel Memorial Day weekend since 2000.

Hot spots around the state include Wisconsin Dells’ waterparks, the quaint getaways of the Northwoods and Door County, and the culinary scene in the Madison area.

“A lot of folks are going to be going out to these unique culinary experiences in the summer like pizza farms or they’re going on farm tours. They’re traveling across the state and finding all of these unexpected activities,” Wroge said.

Not all summer experiences have to be outside. Wroge says indoor museums like the Madison Children’s Museum also draw in visitors.

Travel Wisconsin’s summer brand campaign is going on right now. Wroge says it’s the highlight of Travel Wisconsin’s marketing campaign.

The campaign not only hopes to bring Wisconsinites to other parts of the state, but also visitors from across the Midwest.

“It’s live in 13 Midwestern markets and we lean into this brand idea of ‘Here’s to those who Wisconsin,’” Wroge said. “So, that really celebrates our spirited nature, how welcoming we are, the world-class hospitality we’re known for. And as part of that, we talk about our festivals and events like signature experiences of the summer.”

From Summerfest in Milwaukee to EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, a full list of summer events in Wisconsin can be found on Travel Wisconsin’s website .

Visitors arrivals, spending down in April as summer cooldown looms for Hawaii tourism

all seasons international travel

Hawaii is expected to see a slow summer tourism season, a travel report says. Above, passengers from Chicago wait for their luggage at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. Visitors to Hawaii and their daily spending fell more sharply in April than they had in any month since the Aug. 8 Maui wildfires — an indication that even the peak summer season could prove soft. Jeffrey Eslinger, senior director, market insights, for the Hawai‘i Visitors &Convention Bureau, said that overall, “summer is softer than it is typically.” Eslinger said Oahu and...

Leanne Kiernan waves holding a match ball at Leicester.

Matt Beard’s Liverpool Women’s team played a strong campaign this season, palpably improving from a team that aimed in 2022/23 to simply remain in the WSL.

A strong April and May saw Liverpool finish fourth in the Women’s Super League, six points ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United .

In recognition of the strength of her form at the end of the season, Leanne Kiernan won the final 2023/23 Player of the Month award covering April and May — a period where the striker scored four goals in her four appearances.

This period started with the side’s win against Manchester United, who were then looking to challenge Liverpool for their position on the table, and included a goal in the dramatic 4-3 win against eventual WSL winners Chelsea.

Most memorable for Kiernan, though, will probably be her second-half hat-trick against Leicester City (pictured), which confirmed the Reds’ position on the table.

This is Kiernan’s only POTM award this season.

In “Tuxhorn,” the episode opens chaotically as Brian Lange (Colin Donnell) discovers that Forrester went to Norway to rescue his mom who is believed to have been captured. Wanting to help, Lange and the Fly Team risk their lives and reputations and head out without the approval or support of the Norwegian government. If they get caught, however, the U.S. government has told them they will deny their knowledge of the mission and will label them rogue agents.

Back in Norway, a woman (Teri Polo) has been taken into custody who authorities believe is Angela Cassidy. They are in search of a secret dossier they believe is in her custody, but do they even have the right person? Without answering any questions while under duress, she opts instead to stab a guard in the neck with a fork before they drag her away as she screams maniacly.

all seasons international travel

Lange agrees to a dangerous and somewhat mysterious exchange requested by Nicolai, a coyote the Norweigan government is using to free the two journalists who were also imprisoned. The trade-off is, Lange locates a woman of interest to the Russians, in exchange for Angela.

Nicolai and his henchmen battle it out with the Fly Team with the former showing Tess firmly in his grip. The Fly Team manages to rescue her just seconds before the Foreign Minister orders the Americans to be arrested immediately. Lange pulls a wild card which is their last hope to avoid arrest: he asks Tess if she has the password to Angela’s dossier. She doesn’t realize that a tattoo Angela gave her in prison (before tonight’s events), is the password. Bingo!

Tess reveals to the Fly Team, that Forrester and his mom have long since disappeared. Everyone returns to the U.S. and in the final beats of the episode, they discover Forrester and Angela are somewhere in Alaska. Knowing they should reveal the location to Deputy Director Adell, Lange orders them to wipe the file showing where the mother and son are and even that they uncovered it.

But, the episode can’t end without showing some love to Tank. Now that his dad is gone, he will now be with the Fly Team, who love him as if he were their own. And now, he is—at least until Forrester reappears.
