Wilson Phillips is an American pop/rock vocal group consisting of Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson and Chynna Phillips formed in 1989.

Carnie Wilson and Wendy Wilson are the daughters of Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, whilst Chynna Phillips is the offspring of Mama & Papas' John and Michelle Phillips. The girls were childhood friends after growing up together in Southern California in the 1970s and 1980s. They formed Wilson Phillips in 1989 and their debut self titled album came the year after.

It peaked at #2 on the US Billboard Charts and #7 in the UK charts. The album included two momentous worldwide hit singles, the first being 'Hold On' which debuted at #1 on the US chart and #6 in the UK, as well as charting highly in a number of other countries. 'Release Me' followed and topped the US and Canadian charts. Thanks to the success of these singles, the band's debut album is now certified five times multi-platinum.

The album and singles accumulated the girls five Grammy Award nominations in categories including Song Of The Year, Album Of The Year and Best New Artist.

They released their second album 'Shadows & Light' in 1992 and it peaked at #4 on the US charts and now holds a platinum selling certificate. It didn't include hit singles to the extent of the first release, 'You Won't See Me Cry' was the high point charting at #20. After this disappointment the band disbanded temporarily until a reunion in 2004. They returned with an album of cover versions entitled 'California' which debuted at #35 on the US charts with first week sales of more than 30,000 units. Since then they have released a holiday album entitled 'Christmas in Harmony' and 'Dedicated', an album made up of The Beach Boys and Mamas & Papas covers.

Being born the daughters of members of three of the most influential rock groups in history, it wasn’t hard to predict the success of this trio. If you thought Carnie and Wendy Wilson (daughters of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys) and Chynna Phillips (daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas) were destined for greatness when they formed the hit vocal group Wilson Phillips in 1989, you weren’t wrong. Upon release in 1990, their debut album sold over 10 million copies throughout the world and three of its singles reached number one status on the Billboard Hot 100, earning the band the title of best-selling female group that year. Witnessing their magnificence live is something quite different, however. Goosebumps spread over you like an extra layer of skin as Chynna Phillips pours her entire being into the exhilarating lyrics of “Hold On” – their most successful single to date, being nominated for four Grammy Awards and two American Music Awards. Overwhelming emotion consumes you at the first perfectly-harmonised note of “Release Me”, leaving no room for any thought or feeling that does not relate to the uplifting concert. Wilson Phillips take you into their heart-warming and talented arms and let you go with a new sense of optimism and appreciation.

Being the daughters of three of the most influential American rock performers must cast one hefty shadow upon your career. However luckily for Wilson Phillips they achieved a large amount of chart success themselves and they conduct the live show in a similarly independent manner.

It is great to see a tour that is totally devoid of unnecessary video interludes or flashy visuals, instead the focus is three women with very impressive voices. They perform a really great mix of pop/rock history tonight as they of course honour their parents with 'California Dreamin'' by Mamas & Papas. They also pay homage to rock greats including the Eagles and Elton John with really great melodic performances of the recognisable tracks. They soon get back to their own well known and popular work including 'Release Me' and the timeless 'Hold On' which is sung back in irrepressible force by the whole room which leaves the three women beaming from ear to ear as they embrace.

The show was fantastic. The ladies still look amazing and still harmonize beautifully together. Only wish the set was longer but other than that we can't wait to see them again.

Wilson Phillips are best known for their music including three No. 1 hit singles from the early ’90s  including, “Hold On”, “Release Me”, and “You’re In Love.” “Hold On” went on to receive five Grammy Nominations and two American Music Awards nominations, but did you know Wilson Phillips have a long history of music that runs in their families?

Most people know that Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson, and Chynna Phillips make up Wilson Phillips, but what are their roots in music?

Let’s start with Carnie Wilson. Carnie Wilson was a guest star on E!’s Entertainment Tonight, she’s been on CMT’s Gone Country , made several appearances on VH1 on various shows, hosted The Newlywed Game, and she starred in a reality TV show on TV Guide Network about the rebirth of her band Wilson Phillips. You might have noticed her on Celebrity Fit Club and seen her on The New Celebrity Apprentice . Not only that, Carnie is also the daughter of none-other than Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and of course, she is Wendy Wilson’s older sister.

Wendy Wilson co-founded Wilson Phillips with Carnie and childhood friend Chynna Phillips. This goes without saying that Wendy is also the daughter to Brian Wilson. While Carnie and Wendy’s father has periodically come and gone from their lives, he still has had an influence on their careers in music. Wendy is married to Engineer/Producer Daniel Knutson. Together they have four sons. Wendy also became one of the first celebrities to appear on ABC’s Supernanny.

Papa’s. Chynna’s career started out in film and you might remember her as Mia in the movie Some Kind of Wonderful . She played as Hardy’s girlfriend, whom he cheats with Amanda…yeah, that girl. Along with her film and music career, Chynna is married William Baldwin. In 2011, Chynna also competed in Dancing with the Stars and she played a cameo in the blockbuster movie, Bridesmaids. Chynna is returning to television on the upcoming comedy, Youth Group , featuring her husband and William’s brother, Stephen Baldwin.

Together, they released albums in 1990, 1992, and released Christmas album in 1993. Their 1990 debut album sold over 10 million copies and “Hold On” won them a Top 100 Billboard award for Single of the Year , but experienced a sharp decline in record sales on their sophomore album, Shadows and Light. The band went on hiatus from 1993 to 2003 due to problems within the family and became estranged from their father, Brian. In 2004, the band reunited and released California and released the album Dedicated in 2012.

Wilson Phillips are currently on tour in Southern California and are performing at Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills on February 2 and The Canyon in Agoura Hills on February 3rd.

Wilson Phillips Talk Tour After Making ‘Masked Singer’ History

The Masked Singer saw Wilson Phillips unmasked as Lambs on the finale of this year’s series. They lost out to Amber Riley (Harp) and it was one of the best finales in the show’s history. This was the first year that the finalists were all female and Wilson Phillips was the first group to make the finals.

After their unmasking, the award-winning trio talked about why they appeared on the show. They also had a special announcement for fans coming to their concerts on their upcoming tour.

After being unmasked as the runner-up of The Masked Singer Season 8, the trio talked about their excitement at appearing and performing on the show. Carnie Wilson said it was a great experience and Fox “held our hand through it” to make sure that it all turned out as good as it did. She admitted it was an experience they would never forget.

Wendy Wilson said it was hard because the weight of the costume made it hard to move around and do the choreography. Like many said before, it is also very hard to see out of the mask during the performances. She also admitted that the worst part is when you get an itch.

Wendy said they were all proud of Amber Riley, and that she deserved to win. However, Carnie said, “There was that part of me, personally, where I was like, ‘Oh God, I really hope we win.’ And I really thought we had the chance, but it was like we did win. It felt like we still won.”

Wilson Phillips has a treat planned for fans on tour

The Masked Singer wasn’t the only big news for Wilson Phillips this week. The trio also released their new singer, a version of the Harry Styles song “Boyfriend.” That is a song that fans might expect to hear on their upcoming tour. According to Carnie Wilson, that won’t be all the fans will get to hear.

She told PEOPLE they might add the songs from their Masked Singer performances. “I would love to suggest to the girls to add ‘Boyfriends’ and ‘I Need You Now,’ and possibly ‘Ironic’ to the set list,” Carnie said. She also said they often do a medley, so that might be where the songs from the reality show might end up.

Lambs first appeared in Week 5 where they sang “Hot n Cold” by Katy Perry before the battle royale performance of “Call Me” by Blondie. They beat out both Kat Graham and Jerry Springer that week. In Week 6, they sang “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette and then the Battle Royale performance of “What is Love” by Haddaway. They beat out Le’Veon Bell and Joey Lawrence.

In the semifinals, they sang “Need You Now” by Lady A and then the Battle Royale song, “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson. They beat out Nikki Glaser. In the finals, they sang “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Khan and “I Want to Know What Love Is” by Foreigner.

The PGA Tour is in Detroit, Michigan, for the Rocket Mortgage Classic , where Rickie Fowler will attempt to defend his title. After an entertaining three-week stretch of golf, this tournament does not feature some top-ranked players, but it still employs a strong field of golfers looking to push their way up the FedEx Cup standings.

Detroit Golf Club, a Donald Ross design, is one of the flattest courses players face this season. It will likely be a birdie fest as scores tend to be low.

Nate Lashley won at 25-under in 2019 at the inaugural event. The last couple of years have seen similar results. Tony Finau won at 26-under in 2022, and Rickie Fowler ended his drought with a 24-under final score. Even the cut line is low, as players typically have to finish 36 holes at 5-under or lower to make the weekend. The last five cut lines of this tournament have been: 4-under, 3-under, 3-under, 5-under, and 5-under.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic Preview:

Defending champion Rickie Fowler ended his four-year-long drought last year when he defeated Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa in a playoff.

However, he recorded only one top-20 finish since that victory, which came at the Travelers Championship last week. He tied for 20th, which, considering he began the championship with a 6-under 64, proved to be a rather disappointing finish—much like how his entire 2024 season has gone.

Nevertheless, Fowler looks to become the first back-to-back winner in this tournament’s history.

Cameron Young, who shot a 59 at TPC River Highlands last week, is in the field. He finished second to Finau in 2022.

Michael Thorbjornsen, who made his professional debut last week at the Travelers , will play again this week in Detroit. The former Stanford Cardinal tied for 39th, which included a second-round 6-under 64.

The headliner of this event is Tom Kim, who fell to his best friend Scottie Scheffler in a one-hole playoff at the Travelers. This week will mark Kim’s ninth straight event on tour. He is someone to watch because his game is so sharp right now. His best finish at the Rocket Mortgage is a T-7 in 2022.

The sponsor exemption list is also impressive. Miles Russell will make his PGA Tour debut at 15-years-old. He won the Junior PGA Championship and Junior Players. Russell took the world by storm by making the cut earlier this year at the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic.

Neal Shipley is also in the field, making his first non-major start. He finished as the low amateur at the Masters and the U.S. Open .

This field may not feature any of the world's Top 10 players, but it will be a fascinating week with plenty of talented players to watch.
