Viking Cruise Ship Tracker

Here you can check the current location of where the Viking cruise ships are located around the world. Feel free to use this real-time ship tracker to know where your Viking vessel is. You’ll be able to see if a specific cruise ship is docked in port, anchored and even live speed data in real time!

Can you track every cruise ship?

No, not every cruise ship can be tracked. Some cruise ships may not have an AIS system installed, and therefore cannot be tracked. Additionally, some countries may restrict the broadcast of AIS data for  security or other reasons. For these reasons, it is essential to double-check the availability of AIS data before attempting to track a specific cruise ship.

Travel + Leisure

Why is my ship’s data not updating?

Our cruise tracker is limited and the land based stations might not be receiving updates due to the ship’s remote or current location. Authorities and the cruise line also use satellite based data, but this is very expensive and our map doesn’t have that capability at this time. Many ships in the Viking Fleet cruise in very remote locations where land based stations that update this map, are not located. So this is the reason you may see a lack of updates on some vessels and not others.

United States Coast Guard Regulations

The United States Coast Guard requires all  ships operating  in US waters to have an AIS system installed. This means that all cruise ships visiting the United States must have an AIS system installed and active at all times. This requirement ensures that all vessels are visible and traceable while in US waters, allowing for improved safety and security.

Emergency Situations

In the  event  of an emergency, AIS ship tracking can be used to quickly locate and contact a vessel in distress. By using the system, search and rescue teams can quickly and accurately locate vessels in need of assistance. This can mean the difference between life and death in some cases.

View Vessel Photos

Vessel  Photos  are listed for most ships, in addition to providing real-time tracking data, the AIS system can also provide vessel photos. This allows you to quickly and easily identify any vessels in the vicinity of your chosen port. The photos can be used to check for damage or other irregularities before boarding a vessel.

Evacuation of passengers has ended as cruise ship travels to Norway port

By Eliza Mackintosh and Kendall Trammell , CNN

Viking Sky passengers will begin flying home tonight

All passengers and crew aboard the Viking Sky cruise ship are safe in the port of Molde, in western Norway, and passengers will soon begin flying home, Viking Ocean Cruises said in a statement on Sunday afternoon.

With the safe arrival of the vessel in port, our live coverage has ended. For all of the harrowing details from passengers who were stranded at sea, read our story .

"We made it," passengers cheer

The Viking Sky cruise ship has docked at a quay in Molde harbor, western Norway, after a harrowing day stranded at sea.

Passengers onboard the vessel shouted, "We made it," as the ship arrived on Sunday afternoon, Norwegian state broadcaster NRK reported .

Cruise ship expected to dock at 4:30 p.m. local time

The Viking Sky cruise ship is expected to dock at 4:30 p.m. local time in Molde, a port town in western Norway, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre of Southern Norway said on Twitter. Local people have been asked to stay away from the center of town as emergency services prepare for the vessel's arrival.

US Embassy consular team to assist American cruise passengers

The US Embassy in Oslo has sent a consular team to Molde, a coastal city in western Norway, to assist American citizens being evacuated from the Viking Sky cruise ship.

The embassy said it was in contact with Norwegian authorities leading the rescue effort.

"The safety and security of U.S. citizens is of the utmost importance, and we will provide more information as it becomes available," the embassy said in a statement .

Norwegian PM: "It has been a dramatic day"

Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg thanked rescue workers and volunteers who had helped respond to what she called a "dramatic day" for passengers aboard the Viking Sky cruise ship.

"It has been a dramatic day for the passengers and rescue personnel on #VikingSky in #Hustadvika. Thank you to the talented rescuers, volunteers and others who have made an invaluable effort in demanding conditions," Soldberg said on Twitter.

Evacuation of passengers has ended as cruise ship travels to port

The evacuation of passengers from a cruise ship off the western coast of Norway has come to an end as the vessel safely makes its way to Molde harbor, Viking Ocean Cruises said in a statement.

Rescue teams airlifted 479 people from the vessel after it was stranded in stormy seas Saturday with 1,300 passengers and crew on board.

The Viking Sky cruise ship, which regained engine power on Sunday morning, is traveling to Molde accompanied by two supply ships and one tug assist vessel. There are 436 guests and 458 crew still remaining on the ship.

Twenty people sustained injuries on the vessel, which was being tossed about by wind and waves, Viking Ocean Cruises said. All are being treated at medical facilities in Norway, or have already been discharged.

"Throughout all of this, our first priority was for the safety and well-being of our passengers and our crew," Viking Ocean Cruises said in a statement, thanking Norwegian emergency services and local residents for their support.

The next sailing, which was scheduled to embark on March 27, has been canceled.

Evacuated passengers treated for bruising, broken bones, cuts

The Norwegian Red Cross, which was treating passengers from the stricken cruise ship at an evacuation center in Hustadvika, on Norway's western coast, said that they were seeing injuries including bruising, broken bones and cuts.

More than 400 people rescued from stranded cruise ship

From CNN's Zahid Mahmood

Rescuers have evacuated 418 people by helicopter from the Viking Sky cruise ship, a day after the vessel was stranded in rough seas off Norway with 1,300 passengers and crew on board.

“There are at least two or three helicopters still rescuing people from the cruise ship but there is only one helicopter in operation at one given time because of the weather,” a spokesperson from Norwegian rescue services (HRS Southern Norway) told CNN.

“They work in rotations because it is not possible to hoist people from two helicopters working at one time.”

Passengers aboard the stricken ship say the vessel is being tossed about by wind and waves as they continue to await rescue .

Three of the ship's four engines are now working, and tug boats are trying to move the ship to shore.

Americans airlifted from cruise ship describe frightening scenes on board

Two American passengers who were airlifted off the Norway cruise ship told CNN affiliate Dagbladet about the frightening scene on board.

"Furniture would slide across the room, slide back and with it came people and glass. It was a very dangerous situation frankly," Jan Terbruegen said.

Speaking at the Scandic Hotel Alexandra, where many of the evacuated passengers are staying, Terbruegen described seeing the ship drifting toward rocks before being evacuated.

"We could see that we were getting blown in toward some rocks. That was the most frightening thing I think. But luckily that wasn't our destiny," Terbruegen said.

Beth Clark, another American passenger, said she was hoisted 100 feet in the air onto a Coast Guard helicopter from the ship. She praised the Norwegian Coast Guard, Viking Sky crew and others for help with the evacuation efforts.

10 Reasons to Love the Viking Sea Cruise Ship

where is viking sea cruise ship now

Viking Cruises launched the Viking Sea in 2016. It is the second ship in Viking's ocean-going fleet, following the wildly-popular Viking Star, which was launched a year earlier. The Viking Sea is almost identical to the Viking Star inside and out.

Many cruise travelers have enjoyed sailing on one of Viking's 60+ river ships , and the company has included many of its river fleet's features in the Viking Sea.

The biggest innovation Viking has on its ocean ships is the almost all-inclusive pricing, with complimentary beer and wine included at lunch and dinner, free WiFi throughout the ship, a shore excursion included at every port, complimentary 24-hour room service, and no fees at any of the specialty restaurants. One of the biggest complaints cruise travelers have on mainstream ships is that they are " nickel-and-dimed " to death. No such worries on the Viking Sea. In 2017, Viking launched two other ocean-going ships, the Viking Sky and Viking Sun.

Here are 10 reasons that the Viking Sea was the hottest new ship of 2016.

Like the cabins on her sister ship the Viking Star, all of the cabins on the Viking Sea have a private veranda. Like the rest of the ship, the decor is contemporary and Scandinavian. The cabins have ample storage space, with a nice desk and make-up mirror.

The exciting unique features of the Viking Sea cabins include a heated floor in the bathroom, a no-fog mirror in the bathroom, plenty of plugs for charging all those electrical devices (including one next to each side of the bed), and a Paulig coffee maker in all but the basic veranda cabins. If you've never had a bathroom with a heated floor, you've been missing out on a treat. And, those who need to have coffee within 30 seconds of awakening will understand that room service can't get there fast enough, so an in-room coffee maker is a nice touch.

A Great Italian Restaurant

The Viking Sea is definitely a Scandinavian ship. It has a restful, contemporary, simple decor and touches of its roots like a Norwegian heritage center and a Norwegian takeaway cafe dedicated to the owner's Norwegian mother. Like her sister ship, the Viking Sea has several excellent dining venues , but the best one is not Scandinavian, it's Italian. And, it might be the best Italian restaurant at sea. Mr. Torstein Hagen, the CEO and chairman of Viking Cruises, named the restaurant in honor of his Italian friend Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, who is the chairman of Silversea Cruises .

Manfredi's Italian Restaurant looks like a classic Italian restaurant, and the menu features many Italian favorites like antipasti, pasta, and seafood dishes. However, the star of the menu is the Bistecca Fiorentina (Florentine Steak), one of the best steaks served at sea (or anywhere else). This mouth-watering, thick-cut ribeye is coated in garlic oil and rubbed with Porcini mushroom powder, kosher salt, brown sugar, and red chili flakes before grilling.

The Outdoor Seating and Dining

All cruise ships have outdoor seating and dining. However, the Viking Sea seems to have more. This spacious, 930-guest ship never feels like it is crowded, and there always seems to be space outdoors (or indoors) to sit. Those who have searched for a quiet lounge chair or a table to eat lunch outdoors will definitely appreciate the Viking Sea.

The Indoor/Outdoor Swimming Pool

The Viking Sea has two swimming pools--an infinity pool aft overlooking the wake of the ship and the main swimming pool, which can be either indoors or outdoors since it has a retractable roof. This is surprising since the ship primarily caters to an older demographic of North American travelers. However, this demographic is active and many over 55 love to swim, so maybe the indoor/outdoor pool shouldn't be surprising.

Some might be surprised that the Viking Sea doesn't have a water park. Since guests have to be at least 16 years old, the company wisely decided it wasn't necessary.

The Curated Artwork

Many cruise travelers appreciate art, and the Viking Sea has (literally) paid a lot of attention to giving its guests interesting pieces to view when walking the stairs or hallways. Those who want to learn more about the fascinating art can download a tour of the onboard art narrated by the ship's Godmother Karine Hagen.

The piece in this photo is in the atrium stairwell. Those who have seen the Bayeux Tapestry in France might remember that this ancient embroidery (it's not a true tapestry) dates back almost 1000 years and celebrates William the Conqueror's victory at the Battle of Hastings and his subsequent coronation as King of England. It's most likely not a coincidence that William was a Norman (Norseman). The tapestry at Bayeux is about 75 different scenes over 230 feet in length, and the Viking Sea has at least a dozen adorning the stairwells. Looking at the various scenes makes stair climbing more interesting!

A Lichen Garden Under the Stairs

Several river vessels and ocean ships have herb gardens onboard, but the Viking Sea has a lichen garden under the atrium stairwell. It's fascinating and adds some color to the below the stairs space. Like the Viking Star interiors , the design of the Viking Sea is uncluttered and homey.

The Two-Deck Forward Explorers' Lounge

The interiors of the Viking Sea cruise ship are open and well-lit by the sun. One of the most spectacular places to see the views of the ocean are in the Explorers' Lounge. This forward observation lounge is spread over two decks and is one of the most attractive at sea.

On the lower level is Mamsen's, a Norwegian takeaway eatery; tables and chairs; a bar; a library and reading area; a grand piano and dance floor; and a faux fireplace that looks eerily real and adds a cozy touch to the lounge.

On the upper level are more shelves filled with books on explorers, maps, a large video screen, and interesting travel collectibles.

The Complimentary Thermal Suite

Many cruise travelers love to visit a spa when on vacation. The Viking Sea has a full-service LivNordic spa, with all the treatments an exhausted traveler might desire. The spa also has a marvelous unisex thermal suite, which is complementary to all guests. This is a rarity at sea and a real treat. The thermal suite has a thalassotherapy pool, hot tub, a therapy shower, and a bucket filled with ice water to pour over your head if needed.  The thermal suite has padded lounges as well as the ceramic heated ones so popular on other ships.

The Snow Grotto

Although part of the thermal suite, the snow grotto has quickly become popular with the guests.  It has a bench to sit on, and the snow is really ice shavings, but it will cool you off. Visitors to the snow room should take along a towel to sit on; otherwise, they might get frostbite on their buns.

The Private Oceanview Sauna in Owner's Suite

Both the men's and women's changing rooms in the LivNordic spa have a dry sauna and cold plunge pool. However, those who love saunas and have larger budgets might want to book the Owner's Suite, which has its own private, oceanview sauna. Occupants of the suite can detox and enjoy an ocean view at the same time.

The Itineraries

The Viking Sea sails a variety of European itineraries in the spring and summer months, traveling to the Baltic, Arctic, and Mediterranean Seas, northern Europe, and the British Isles. In the fall and winter, the ship visits North America and the Caribbean .

The Viking Sea is a fantastic cruise option for adult travelers who are into lifelong learning and appreciate excellent service, fascinating ports of call, and delicious food. With Viking Cruises' almost all-inclusive pricing, the basic fares might seem high, but when guests consider what is included, the cruise ship provides great value for the fare.

Three groups of travelers might not enjoy or get their dollar's worth on the Viking Sea:

  • Those who never want to take an organized tour will be paying for one tour per port as part of the basic cruise fare.
  • Those who love gambling won't find a casino onboard.
  • Those who want to bring their children or grandchildren (under 16) along on vacation won't be able to sail with them on the Viking Sea (or other Viking Ocean ships).

Other than those groups, this ship might be a perfect choice for almost every other traveler.

10 Best Cruises to Hawaii — From Luxury Sailings to Expedition Ships

A cruise around the 50th state is an excellent way to see as much of the islands as possible in a limited amount of time.

where is viking sea cruise ship now

Courtesy of Viking Cruises

The islands of Hawaii are popular with families, couples, retirees, groups of friends, and anyone who enjoys warm weather, tropical scenery, and the 50th state's "Aloha" spirit. Each island offers a different climate, landscape, and style, and even on the same island, there are significant variations depending on location. On Oahu, for example, there's bustling Honolulu on the south shore and the more secluded surfing paradise of the North Shore . On the Big Island, the Hilo and Puna regions on the east coast are wet and heavily forested, whereas the Kailua-Kona region on the west coast tends to be much drier.

Visitors to Hawaii, especially first-timers, want to experience as much of the islands as possible, and a cruise is a great way to accomplish that, according to Pam Jacobs , travel advisor at Travel Store in Palos Verdes Estates, California. “People love the inter-island cruises because all meals are included, so it’s an economical as well as convenient way to see the islands. You unpack once and avoid getting in and out of airports and checking in and out of hotels. It’s the best way to island hop.”

Families and travelers with limited time enjoy the seven-day Norwegian Cruise Lines Honolulu to Honolulu round trip cruises, while retirees may opt for a longer cruise from the West Coast with more days at sea. You can embark from several ports on the West Coast, including San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle. “Many Hawaiʻi cruises are part of longer voyages to the South Pacific, Australia, or around the world,” says Jacobs, a cruise and train travel specialist.

“The shore excursions on the cruises are the same things a tourist would do on land — go to a luau, play golf, visit an attraction like the Arizona Memorial, or just relax on the beach — and it’s all arranged for you,” according to Jacobs. One more bit of advice from our cruise expert: “Always arrive a day before your cruise to be sure you’re there and ready. You’ll have time to explore and relax before boarding.”

Below are some of the best cruises to see Hawaiʻi . Dates, prices, amenities, and itineraries vary, so choosing a cruise requires some planning and research. That's always part of the fun, so hopefully this list will inspire you to get started.

Holland America: 17-day Circle Hawaii - Round Trip from San Diego

Courtesy of Holland America

This cruise on the 1,432-passenger Zaandam departs from San Diego and spends five days at sea before arriving in Honolulu at 8 a.m. Optional activities include a trip to Pearl Harbor, a hike on Diamond Head, a road trip around Oahu, an evening at the Polynesian Cultural Center, and a day on Waikiki Beach. After an overnight sail to Kauai, the ship docks at Nawiliwili Harbor. Guests can take a Wailua River cruise to the Fern Grotto , a tour of a coffee plantation, or a trip to Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Maui is the next island on the itinerary, and guests can choose a drive to Haleakala Crater , a snorkel adventure aboard the new Reef Explorer, or a drive to Maui’s Upcountry or rainforest. The final two stops, Hilo and Kona, are on the Big Island. In Kona, there’s an optional Atlantis submarine trip to explore coral gardens or a catamaran cruise. Options include visits to Volcanoes National Park and in Hilo, guests can tour Rainbow Falls or go for a zipline adventure. After four days at sea, you'll stop in Ensenada, Mexico, before returning to San Diego.

Royal Caribbean: 9-night Hawaii Cruise - Vancouver to Oahu

Courtesy of Royal Caribbean Cruises

This trip aboard the 4,180-passenger Ovation of the Seas offers guests much to do during days at sea, with a rock climbing wall, FlowRider surf simulator, and Northstar, a 360-degree observation capsule 300 feet above sea level. “For travelers who have the time for these days at sea, the activities on the ship are a big part of the fun,” according to Jacobs. After departing Vancouver , British Columbia, the ship spends four days at sea before it arrives in Honolulu for a day of exploring Oʻahu with a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center or Waikiki Beach. The ship crosses the International Date Line with a day at sea and then passes the beautiful Napali Coast of Kauai, famous for its dramatic cliffs rising from the ocean. The final stop is Oahu, and passengers spend as much time as they want exploring Honolulu, Waikiki Beach, or the rest of the island before heading home.

Norwegian Cruise Line: 7-Day Hawaii Inter-Island Cruise from Honolulu

Courtesy of Norwegian Cruises

Spend a week exploring four of Hawaii's islands on this cruise aboard the 2,186-passenger Pride of America , the only ship sailing to four Hawaiian islands in seven days year-round. “These Norwegian Cruise Line trips are a dependable way to see the islands with their convenient weekly departures,” Jacobs says. “You can see the other islands and spend some time in Oahu before or after your cruise.” Onboard activities include basketball, volleyball, video games, theater, hot tubs, spa, and shopping. Departing Honolulu on Saturday evening, the ship heads to Kahului, Maui for two days with options like a drive on the Road to Hana, a catamaran cruise to Molokini for snorkeling with sea turtles, a tour to Haleakala Crater, and more. Next is a day in Hilo on the Big Island, where guests can see a volcano, rain forest, waterfalls, or a lush botanical garden. On the other side of the island in Kona, snorkeling, fishing, cruising in a catamaran, and a reef tour are among optional activities. On Kauai , passengers can enjoy a traditional luau, hike through a rainforest, go kayaking, or take in Waimea Canyon . The cruise ends the following Saturday back in Honolulu, where passengers can explore the city, nearby Pearl Harbor , or Oahu's North Shore.

UnCruise Adventures: Hawaiian Seascapes

Courtesy of UnCruise

“The UnCruise expedition-style cruises focus on the destinations rather than the ship,” according to Pam Jacobs. “The experience is immersive, eco-friendly, and there’s always great camaraderie with the small groups.” This seven-night cruise aboard the 36-guest Safari Explorer begins in Kona, on the Big Island, with a champagne welcome from the captain. The following two days feature a hike up the slopes of Hualalai with a naturalist guide, night snorkeling among Giant Pacific Manta rays, and plenty of opportunities for swimming or kayaking. On day four in Maui, guests can stroll through historic Lahaina, snorkel among coral and sea turtles, or kayak in a marine sanctuary. Lanai is the next island, where guests can paddleboard or kayak past 1,000-foot-high sea cliffs, go snorkeling, take a bike excursion, or visit the quaint Lanai Culture and Heritage Center. On Molokai, guests can learn how taro is cultivated and turned into poi , or they can hike to a spectacular waterfall in Halawa Valley . At the Molokai Museum, a lesson on the island's history is followed by a pa'ina (feast), complete with traditional music. Passengers disembark the following day at Kaunakakai , where they can either transfer to Molokai Airport or extend their stay.

Princess Cruises: 16-day Hawaiian Islands - Round Trip from San Francisco

Courtesy of Princess Cruises

This cruise aboard the 3,080-passenger Ruby Princess departs San Francisco in the late afternoon. Shipboard programs for youths, teens, and families provide something for everyone. On the Big Island, guests can zipline through the rainforest or visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park . Next is Oahu, where activities include a tour of Pearl Harbor, snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, and a tour of the only royal palace in the United States . On Kauai, there are hiking , snorkeling, and kayaking adventures. On Maui, guests can sail on a catamaran, Zodiac, or submarine. After four days at sea, passengers have a day to explore Ensenada, Mexico , on the Baja California peninsula, before the Ruby Princess sails back to San Francisco.

In Hilo, on day eight, guests can explore waterfalls, volcanoes, wineries, and gardens on the lush coast of the Big Island. The ship cruises to Kona on the other side of the island for another two days of snorkeling or other onshore activities and then spends a day passing the Napali Coast of Kauai, where steep cliffs rise from the ocean and sea caves and waterfalls can be seen from the ship. After another day of cruising, the final stop is Honolulu, where guests are free to enjoy Oahu at their leisure before heading back to the mainland.

The next stop is Kahului, Maui, where you can spend a day at the beach, the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, or Botanical Gardens. In Hilo on the “Big Island” of Hawaiʻi,” guests can tour Mauna Kea Observatory or see active volcanoes at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park . Viking Sea deck plans

Deck layouts, review of facilities, activities, amenities.

Viking Sea cruise ship

Viking Sea deck plan review at CruiseMapper provides newest cruise deck plans (2024-2025-2026 valid floor layouts of the vessel) extracted from the officially issued by Viking Ocean (Viking Cruises) deckplan pdf (printable version).

Each of the Viking Sea cruise ship deck plans are conveniently combined with a legend (showing cabin codes) and detailed review of all the deck's venues and passenger-accessible indoor and outdoor areas. A separate link provides an extensive information on Viking Sea staterooms (cabins and suites), including photos, cabin plans and amenities by room type and category.

MV Viking Sea (2016-built) is the 2nd in a 10-unit series of identical cruise ships built for Viking OCEAN between 2015-2027 ( fleet ). Vessel design was specifically developed for Viking's revolutionary "small ship travel" all-inclusive vacation concept that combines the "excursions-inclusive river cruising" experience with "affordable luxury" sea vacation product.

Viking Sea cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 464 staterooms for 928 passengers served by 470 crew/staff, 9 passenger decks, 2 swimming pools (one infinity pool, one with retractable roof), 2 Jacuzzi hot tubs, 6 elevators (2 of which are panoramic /with glass walls). This is an adults-only ship (min age requirement 16 yo) without dedicated kids facilities or programs.

On all Viking Sea decks with cabins, there is a launderette (free of charge passenger-use laundromats). These are self-service laundry rooms equipped with ironing boards, washers, and dryers. Detergent is provided (also complimentary).

Like its sisterships, Viking Sea offers an intimate boutique hotel-like feel with its signature decor (Scandinavian-themed), luxury fabrics, spacious lounges with classy leather furniture, gourmet cuisine, unique art collection. Unlike most new cruise ships, all Viking OCEAN boats lack Casino (gambling lounge and bar).

Viking OCEAN's vessels implement some of the industry's top maritime technologies. Among those are the energy-saving hybrid engines (diesel generators and gas turbines), optimized hulls and bulbous bows for max fuel efficiency. Viking OCEAN's ship design also features the common for the company's Longships/riverboats solar panels (installed on the Magradome pool cover) additionally minimizing the exhaust pollution.

Azamara Cruises

A luxurious cruise without any formal clothing or fuss is what you’ll find on Azamara Pursuit and Azamara Onward when they’re sailing from Auckland in 2024 and 2025. With tuxedoed waiters handing out champagne and accommodation that looks more like a plush hotel suite than a cruise ship cabin, sailing on Seabourn Quest from Auckland will appeal to those seeking a high-end cruise experience on a ship with less than 500 passengers. Seabourn cruises have an intimate atmosphere and are all-inclusive, so you can drink champagne and eat caviar all day (and night) long. Or have a multi- course dinner from one of the restaurants delivered to your room course-by-course at no additional charge if you fancy a relaxing night in. The dress code at the restaurants has been relaxed in recent years and is now elegantly casual, aside from one formal night. If you can’t be bothered bringing formal wear, simply order room service that night.

Oceania Cruises

Dine your way around our region and beyond on Oceania Cruises’ sailings from Auckland with a choice of three ships carrying less than 700 passengers: Regatta, Nautica and Insignia. Onboard, you’ll experience some of the best cuisine at sea with no need to pay extra for any of the ship’s specialty restaurants or drinks. Culinary tours are also available for in-depth exploration of the local food and wine scene. There is a smart casual dress code and no formal nights, so you can choose whether or not you want to dress up. The friendly service provided by the line’s attentive staff adds yet another reason to try this relaxed, high-end cruise experience where sparkling chandeliers, fine wines and unlimited lobster are the order of the day.

Viking Ocean

New Zealanders can sail from Auckland on one of Viking Ocean’s contemporary adults-only cruises in 2024 and 2025. Viking Orion and Viking Venus are both virtually identical, so you can choose the itinerary that appeals the most without worrying about which ship you’ll be sailing on. Both offer stylish decor and a friendly, relaxed onboard atmosphere that’s a hit with the sophisticated, active passengers onboard, many of whom are repeat Viking cruisers. All of the ship’s restaurants, wine with lunch and dinner, and a complimentary shore excursion at each port are included in the fare. The Nordic-style thermal suite, which costs nothing to use, includes a thalassotherapy pool with massaging jets and soothing spouts, a bracing bucket shower, a steam sauna, a hot tub and a snow grotto for a bracing cool down if you’re game.

Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours

Scenic Eclipse II is departing from New Zealand for the first time this year, with itineraries covering destinations including Antarctica, South East Asia, Japan, South Korea and around New Zealand. One of the biggest advantages of this small 228-passenger ship is its ability to tuck into small bays. Scenic ocean cruises are all-inclusive, aside from excursions in the ship’s two on-board helicopters and electric submersible, which cost extra. Freechoice Excursions help you make the most of each destination when you’re not enjoying the all-inclusive dining experiences, luxurious accommodation, and one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio onboard. Sailings are available from Auckland, Dunedin and Queenstown , with boarding in Bluff or Milford Sound after an overnight stay in New Zealand’s adventure capital.

If you’re a foodie, Silversea’s Salt (sea and land taste) culinary programme could tempt you onboard one of the line’s sailings from Auckland, with activities ranging from cooking classes to food tours led by local experts. Dishes made from local ingredients selected by Silversea’s chefs when the ship is in port are another unique feature offered by this upmarket line. Choose from sailings on Silver Muse or the newer Silver Nova, which launched last year and uses liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its main fuel source. Everyone gets a butler on Silversea and the same standard of personalised service. With less than 600 passengers onboard both ships, this luxury cruise experience is intimate and upmarket.

There’s plenty of choice when it comes to PONANT cruises departing from New Zealand in 2024 and 2025, with Le Soleal and Le Jacques-Cartier offering sailings from Lyttelton, Auckland and Dunedin. European flair abounds on this dual-language line, which attracts a French and English-speaking clientele. Both ships offer a slightly different cruise experience, with the larger Le Soleal which launched in 2013, carrying 264 passengers and a fleet of zodiacs for shore excursions. If you want to experience the line’s ground-breaking ‘Blue Eye’, a multi-sensorial underwater lounge with hydrophones that retransmit the natural symphony of deep water, the Le Jacques-Cartier Explorer class luxury expedition ship with accommodation for up to 184 guests is the one for you.
