Great show at Ally Pally - Lighting great, venue great, sound great and of course band.....Amazing! Loads of my favourite tunes and such a happy, positive vibe in the crowd - best gig I've been to for a long time.

Underworld played a great set most of the hits all though it wasn't continuous there was barely a let up , even my favourite , Kittens was played. The sound was spot on which makes a huge difference as some major venues have appalling sound and Karl was in top form interacting with the crowd who responded likewise and all seemed to have a great time , can't wait to see them again.

Underworld announce 2024 UK and European tour

It follows their sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall this year

Karl Hyde and Rick Smith of Underworld perform at Lowlands Festival 2023

Underworld have announced a series of UK and EU tour dates for next year. Find ticket details below.

The British electronic duo – comprised of Rick Smith and Karl Hyde – will hit the road throughout 2024 for a series of live performances, including three shows in the UK.

The announcement comes in light of their recently released hypnotic single ‘Denver Luna’ , which arrived earlier this year and also came in an Acapella format . It also comes on the heels of their recent live appearances throughout 2023 – including a sold-out slot at the Royal Albert Hall in London and a set at Coachella festival this summer.

For the 2024 tour, Underworld will kick off the shows with an opening slot at the UFO Velodrom venue in Berlin, Germany on March 22, before continuing the following day with a show in Copenhagen.

From there Smith and Hyde will play shows in Oslo, Brussels and Frankfurt throughout the month, before continuing the final run of spring dates in the UK.

These UK shows will begin at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on April 3, and continue with a show at Alexandra Palace in London three days later (6). The final of the scheduled tour dates will take place in Manchester on April 12 and will be held at Aviva Studios.

Tickets go on sale this Friday (October 27) at 10am local time and can be found here . Pre-sale options will be from tomorrow (October 25), and fans will receive the ticket link via the Underworld newsletter.

In other Underworld news, earlier this year the duo debuted four new songs during their first show of the year.

Held at the 1,600-capacity venue The Marble Factory in Bristol, Underworld performed a 15-track set which included then-unreleased songs ‘Gene Pool’, ‘Strawberry Hotel’, ‘And The Colour Red’, and the aforementioned ‘Denver Luna’.

Underworld’s last album was ‘Drift Songs’ in 2019. It came as part of a new project called ‘Drift’ which saw the band release new music, art and text pieces weekly over the course of a year.

The news comes on the book of the duo's new single ‘denver luna', which is available as an intimate, choral acapella and an amplified, 8-minute version.

Underworld Plot First North American Tour in Five Years

By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

British electronic duo Underworld will return to North America for their first set of shows here in five years this May.

The run kicks off May 15th at the Warfield in San Francisco, and includes stops in Los Angeles, New York and Detroit before wrapping May 27th at the Rebel in Toronto.

Per a statement, Underworld will “perform their immersive and gloriously hallucinatory two-hour plus live sets” that will boast a mix of classic cuts and newer material from their unique Drift: Series 1 project. Ticket information is available on Underworld’s website .

Underworld released Drift: Series 1 back in November, the culmination of a year-long project that started back in November 2018 and found the duo releasing a piece of new music every Thursday for 52 weeks.

The duo completed their task by making music in hotel rooms, kitchens, tour buses, cars and studios around the world, while also collaborating with various artists like the Japanese noise band Melt-Banana and techno producer Ø [Phase]. Drift: Series 1 collected every bit of new music made over that year, while it also included an assortment of previously unreleased tracks, remix and rehearsal recordings.

Underworld

2020 marks 40 years of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith making music together. The duo started in the early ’80s as their experimental, new wave band Freur and eventually transformed into Underworld, the heady electronic outfit that emerged as one of the ’90s dance world’s most celebrated acts.

Hyde’s stream-of-consciousness lyrics and charismatic live presence, combined with Smith’s amalgamation of musical styles into a relentless and complex, yet often dumbfoundingly simple beat — alongside always-stunning visuals — secured the duo’s position at the forefront of electronic dance during the ’90s. Their anthem “Born Slippy .NUXX” is synonymous with the classic U.K. heroin odyssey  Trainspotting,  not only amplifying the intensity of the Danny Boyle-directed movie, but pushing Underworld into the mainstream consciousness upon the film’s release in 1996.

Underworld Reflects on Its Creative Rebirth In 35th Year

Trending on billboard.

Jump to November 2018, when Underworld began releasing audio and video materials every week for a year as part of their  DRIFT Series 1 . The audio portion is eclectic, unexpected and at times score-like. The videos vary from a race driver’s perspective, to feet walking on a busy street, to a fountain pen repeatedly writing a letter to “Drift.” The culmination of the project   is a hefty box set, which includes seven CDs, a Blu-ray and an 80-page book documenting the project, altogether creating a collector’s item if there ever was one.

Underworld performed live throughout the creation of  DRIFT Series 1 , from four nights at the Sydney Opera House to small club shows in London and Manchester. Today (Feb. 10) Billboard Dance can exclusively announce the duo’s return to North America this May, with five shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, and a headlining set at Detroit’s much-lauded Movement Festival. See the complete tour details below.

Here, in a rare gap between activities, Hyde and Smith beam in to reflect on the distant past and speculate on the near future.

1. Where are you right now?

Karl Hyde: We’re in our studio in Essex.

2. What was the first album or piece of music you bought for yourself and what was the medium?

Rick Smith: The first vinyl I bought was a 7” of Hot Butter “Popcorn,” the daftest bit of electronics.

Hyde: The first album I bought was Simon and Garfunkel’s Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme on vinyl, from the man in the market. I absolutely loved their version of “Scarborough Fair.” Their vocal arrangement is still astonishing to me.

3. What did your parents do for a living when you were a kid, and what do they think of what you do for a living now?

Smith: My mother was a piano teacher. My father had various jobs — aircraft fitter, engineer, toolmaker, newspaper editor, and later in life, lay preacher. It was a very long, slow start becoming a professional musician. They were anxious about the choices I’d made in pursuit of something they barely understood. But they bit their lip and were very supportive. Later years, when you start popping up on their television and their radio and their friends are calling, saying “I saw Richard!,” it’s very nice for them.

Hyde: My mum ran a dry cleaner’s shop and was a seamstress. My dad was a carpet weaver. I was in bands from when I was 11. My dad would drive me around and help pay for instruments. He was always there. When the reality of, “Oh my god, my son might actually do this as a career” dawned on him, there was some worry. Coming from a working class background, it was hard enough to accept when I went to art school. But when I came out with a degree and told them I wasn’t going to do art, it blew their heads.

4. What was distinctive about where you grew up that shaped you as a musician?

Smith: We both came from small towns in different parts of Wales. Like most young people, I dreamed of going where the grass was greener — which is difficult to beat in Wales because the grass is as green as you can possibly get. I wanted to see what was encapsulated in these records from bands that I loved who were from these places that looked so romantic and fantastic.

Hyde: The town I grew up in sits in a river valley. On one side of the valley, Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath lived, and on the other side, Robert Plant still lives. You saw these immense rock stars coming through with their funky vehicles with their freaked out entourages. It was like you could see it, but you couldn’t touch it. You felt closer to it watching it on television than when it walked down the High Street or got out of its Rolls Royce. I was desperate to get away from it. My family is still there, and now, I really love going back.

5.   What was the first thing you bought for yourself when you started making money from music?

Smith: We got a proper, major record deal with CBS in the early ‘80s as Freur. We had a small advance which seemed like an enormous amount of money. We bought a second-hand, 4×4 Chevy Blazer and got ripped off tremendously. The thing fell apart within a week and a half.

Hyde: One of the thrills was the top would come off. Rick had put PA speakers in the back. We drove around London with crazy hair and make-up and colorful plastic clothes, playing Wagner very loudly. It was one of our best experiences.

6.What was your first ever gig as Underworld?

Smith: The first Underworld was not dance-oriented at all. It was funk-rock, power-pop, indie.

Hyde: For that version of Underworld, the first gig was for [Sire Records president] Seymour Stein in a recording studio. We recorded the whole thing onto a cassette and gave it to him and said, “That’s our demo.”

7. What moved you toward dance music as far as a particular club or raving experience?

Hyde: Getting dropped by Sire Records and becoming bankrupt.

Smith: That was the circumstance, but in England there was a whole new scene where people were making music, pressing vinyl — gigs could happen in a warehouse without the support of the record industry, without all the rules and criteria that we’d had to try and fit in for years. The freedom of that, allied with the power of seeing what happens when people are connected by rhythm, it was transforming.

8. Do you remember how it felt when you got a reaction in terms of people actually dancing?

Hyde: It was at the Ministry of Sound in London. We played from the DJ booth. Ministry of Sound had a fantastic sound system. One of the things we wanted to achieve was to play live in such a way that nobody stopped dancing, so we played like a DJ, segueing into the set. Virtually nobody knew [were playing like that], and, in a way, that was the measure of success of the gig — that no one stopped dancing.

9. If you had to recommend one album for someone to get introduced to dance music, what would you give them?

Smith: That’s a mean question! One album! Kraftwerk Computer World . This was way before there was a dance scene. Goldie’s Timeless . The Prodigy, Fat of the Land . There are so many records in the ‘90s that were very inspiring.

10. Many people would recommend Underworld’s dubnobasswithmyheadman , no?

Hyde: We’re not allowed! There were lots of elements in dubnobass which people that weren’t into dance music could use as a bridge to get in. We were connected to the dance world, at the same time we didn’t really fall in line with it. There was a very specific moment after dubnobass came out at Brixton Academy when we were doing an all-nighter with Megadog. You saw two factions: the indie kids and the rave kids, looking at each other across the room going, “What are you doing here? This is my band.” That night was one big messy crowd.

11. What is one particular characteristic of dance music in America that stands out for you over the years?

Hyde: For us, America is the birthplace of modern dance music. But it took a really long time to become popular in a significant way. You do everything big, and that’s fantastic, because when you do it, the rest of the world takes notice. As much as people may put down EDM, it’s had a significantly positive effect for the rest of us. It’s drawn a lot more people’s attention to what we’re all doing.

The Top 100 Moments of the EDM Decade

12. You took on the Herculean task of releasing music every single week for a year as the DRIFT series. How did you come upon that decision?

Smith: It was a piece of madness that seemed to make sense. We needed that kind of pressure and focus to accelerated our output, our learning, our communication, to amp everything up — the way we interacted with the world, to not be so private. That could become a real pattern, where we disappear for a couple of years at a time. It was what we needed to do to shake ourselves up.

13. Were there points during that year that you wanted to bail out of the weekly commitment?

Smith: We didn’t implode or explode. We learned an awful lot, discovered new friends, new things about communication with our peers. We had wonderful feedback constantly, from friends, and strangers. That was hugely important and changed the journey. They helped me hold it together in a process that took a long time to finish. There was one particular quote from a friend: “Music is never finished, it just gets ready.”

Hyde: One of the upsides of releasing in that way meant that we were able to refresh the live set more than we’d ever had. Wherever we were, we could drop a brand-new tune and they knew it because they just heard it yesterday.

14. There are many collaborations on DRIFT . What informed your choice in these guests?

Smith: Different criteria every time. We had to function on something more intuitive, and sometimes it was what was practical. Collaborations slow you down. Part of what we’re looking at now with the onwards of DRIFT is how do we manage our process.

15. In a time where releasing physical product is not the norm, you collected all the material from  DRIFT  into a massive multi-media package. What was your reason for that?

Smith: We knew there would some physical manifestation of it, because the desire is there. Maybe the quantities that people want are smaller, but it’s still there. What I see with my kids is they want both. I’m similar. I like physical things, but I also love being able to access, stream new music, discover things quickly without investing every time.

16. What is one (or more) thing that you would do different in your next series of DRIFT ?

Smith: It was quite punishing for having the releases in parallel with the live shows. It would be nice to get a grip on that.

20 Questions With Pete Tong: The Dance Icon on Chilling Out, Finding Hits & Why DJs Need to Become…

17. Visuals have always played a huge role in Underworld. What are some key new elements that are making up the current live show?

Smith: We’ve worked with Toby Vogel for at least 15 years on the visuals. He’s been absorbing this amazing footage that has been generated, the standalone films for the weekly releases, and integrated them into the screens.

18. What are your pre-performance rituals?

Smith: For years, it’s been about trying to carve 45 minutes together where we’re in control of our space and where we can empty a room and just be together and get our heads connected, which is not always straightforward. But we always go on with a hug and some words.

Hyde: The words that nearly always get said are, “ Don’t f–k up .” Strangely, if he doesn’t say that, I’m upset.

19. What are some food items you cannot eat before performing?

Hyde: Dairy products.

Smith: We’ve got a cut-off for eating before a show. Karl doesn’t mess with that because that could get ugly.

Hyde: Four hours. It used to be six, but I’ve managed to get it to something sensible.

20. What piece of advice would you give to yourself at the beginning of your music career?

Smith: Work hard, be patient, you’ll get there.

Rave Icons Underworld Announce 12-Date UK and Europe Tour Beginning This Spring

Avatar photo

UK rave legends Underworld have just announced a 12-date tour of the UK and Europe coming this spring.

The iconic duo of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith will commence their continental journey at Amsterdam’s famous Gashouder with a string of four sold-out shows from March 13-16, 2024.

Underworld will then head to Berlin’s UFO Velodrome on March 22, ahead of stops in Germany, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and a final UK leg at the beginning of April with dates at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall , London’s Alexandra Palace , and Avivia Studios in Manchester.

The tour announcement follows two new Underworld releases this year, including “ and the colour red ” and “ denver luna ,” which arrived earlier this month along with an ensuing acapella rework .

First formed in 1987 as a synth-pop band, Underworld became synonymous with the ever-evolving electronic sound of the 1990s after they leaned into dancier, techno-driven sounds on albums like Second Toughest In The Infants and Beaucoup Fish .

Their 1995 hit “ Born Slippy (Nuxx) ” has been hailed as one of the best tracks of the 1990s by publications like  Slant Magazine and Pitchfork , rising to widespread popularity following its feature in the 1996 Academy Award-nominated film Trainspotting .

Check out the complete list of Underworld’s 2024 UK and Europe tour dates below.

Underworld announce 2024 UK and Europe tour

The duo will play 12 live headline shows across the continent next spring

Underworld announces 2024 UK and Europe tour

Underworld have announced the dates for their UK and Europe tour next year.

The legendary duo are set to embark on a live headline tour across the continent in spring, commencing with four sold-out shows at Amsterdam’s Gashouder from 13th through to 16th March 2024.

Underworld will then play at Berlin’s UFO Velodrom on the 22nd March, followed by a series of shows across Germany, Denmark, Norway and Belgium.

The tour will conclude with a UK leg in early April with dates confirmed at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall and London’s Alexandra Palace, finishing at Aviva Studios in Manchester on 12th April 2024.

The news follows a spree of releases by Underworld in recent months. Just last week, Karl Hyde and Rick Smith shared the full version of their recent single, ‘denver luna’ – an 8-minute iteration of the song which contrasts the acapella version which was in September.

Both of these releases follow Underworld's ‘and the colour red,’ which was dropped last April and debuted during a live performance in Bristol in May – other tracks, including 'Gene Pool' and 'Strawberry Hotel’, were also aired at the show.

Pre-sale tickets are available now, with access given to those who sign up to Underworld’s mailing list . General sale tickets are set to be available on 27th October at 10 a.m local time for each city. You can purchase general sale tickets here .

Check out the full list of dates for the upcoming tour below.

The electronic pioneers close up their European tour with two nights in Manchester

Rick Smith and Karl Hyde have been bringing joy to fans across the world through their energetic live show for decades – and 2024 will see Underworld up their game once again.

Finishing off their extensive headline 2024 European tour, the duo stop off in Manchester at Aviva Studios. No strangers to Factory International, the band were integral to the founding of Manchester Street Poem – a co-produced art collective whose work reflects the personal experiences of Manchester’s marginalised communities and first featured in the 2017 edition of Manchester International Festival.

Latest single denver luna – available in both acapella and full length versions – shows off the distinctive lyrics and the driving, propulsive sound they’re known for. Invigorating and vital, their new work continues to cement Underworld as pioneers of the UK electronic music scene.

Notable live moments from 2023 include a sold-out Royal Albert Hall in London, a crowd-rousing Coachella set in Palm Springs, a headline slot at electronic music festival Junction 2 in London and topping the bill at Lowlands festival in the Netherlands.

London Grammar announce UK arena tour including date at Manchester's AO Arena

I ndie-pop band London Grammar have today announced their biggest tour to date. The UK arena tour will take place this autumn and include three dates in Glasgow, Manchester and London.

News of 'The Greatest Love Arena Tour' arrives just days after the band closed Glastonbury Festival on Sunday night as they headlined The Park Stage to record crowd numbers - some of the biggest the stage has ever seen. They are also set to headline Latitude Festival on July 27.

Pre-sale tickets for the trio's UK dates will be available at 10am on Wednesday, July 10 via Ticketmaster here . It will be followed by a general sale on Friday, 12 July at 10am, also via Ticketmaster here .

The UK arena tour will open this autumn and signifies the accumulation of over a decade of the band - made up of Hannah Reid, Dan Rothman and Dot Major - releasing music and will conclude in a career defining moment as they headline The O2 Arena in London on November 14.

The UK leg also includes shows at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on November 11 and AO Arena in Manchester on November 12, and will follow the EU leg of the arena tour which was also recently announced and is all-but sold out already.

Having first formed as teenagers at University, their double-platinum selling debut 'If You Wait' paved the way for what was to become a hugely successful career for the band. Now over ten years later, they have sold more than three million albums world-wide, with two number one selling records, one billion streams, an Ivor Novello and numerous BRIT Award nominations under their belts.

In 2021 London Grammar also completed their biggest UK tour date, with all 35,000 tickets selling out instantly in just one day. They also headlined All Points East and performed to over 700,000 fans on Coldplay’s stadium tour.

The band released their brand new 'Into Gold' last month, which is taken from their fourth studio album 'The Greatest Love', set for release on September 13. Arriving over a decade since the trio first entered the industry, the f irst single House is out now and is accompanied by the official video.

The Greatest Love follows the group's number one album 'Truth Is A Beautiful Thing', which was released in 2017, and followed by the critically acclaimed record 'Californian Soil'. Released in 2021, the latter earned the band their second BRIT nomination for Best British Group.

Full UK and Europe dates:

  • October 31 - Zenith - Paris, France
  • November 1 - Forest National - Belgium, Brussels
  • November 3 - Ziggo Dome - Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • November 5 - Jahrhunderthalle - Frankfurt, Germany
  • November 7 - UFO Velodrome Berlin, Germany
  • November 11 - OVO Hydro Glasgow, UK
  • November 12 - AO Arena Manchester, UK
  • 1November 4 - The O2 London, UK

London Grammar have announced a huge UK tour including a show at Manchester's AO Arena

The best concerts of 2024 so far: AP’s picks include Olivia Rodrigo, Bad Bunny, George Strait, SZA

As the Associated Press' music writer, Maria Sherman has seen more than 40 concerts during the first half of 2024. Here are some picks for the best shows ... so far, excluding any one-off performances that cannot be repeated, and where you too can catch these artists.

Bad Bunny speaks at the Sony Pictures Entertainment presentation at CinemaCon 2022 in Las Vegas on April 25, 2022.

Bad Bunny, “The Most Wanted Tour”

March 14, Los Angeles' Crypto.com Arena

Bad Bunny’s show begins with a symphony, transitioning into the unmistakable strings of his monster hit, “Monaco.” “The Most Wanted Tour” highlights El Conejo Malo’s fifth solo album “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana” (“Nobody Knows What Will Happen Tomorrow”) and his past reggaetón hits, too.

HIGHLIGHT: There is one moment that can only be described as equine.

OPENER: When you’re one of the biggest artists on the planet, do you really need an opener? Bad Bunny didn't.

SEE IT YOURSELF: This particular run of shows has come to an end, but here's a reminder to catch him next time he's in town.

Olivia Rodrigo, “GUTS World Tour”

April 5, New York's Madison Square Garden

Rodrigo’s spirited punky-pop warms an arena, as does her irreverent charms and Disney-informed dancing. If women performing their rage has fallen out of vogue, Rodrigo has brought it back, full force.

HIGHLIGHT: For the fans of her big-hearted ballads — in one moment, she’s lifted into the air and circles the arena in a purple crescent moon to slow things down.

OPENER: The Breeders — fronted by the Pixies’ Kim Deal — legends of ’90s college radio and indie rock. There’s something completist about hearing an arena discover “Cannonball” for the first time, a song that no doubt inspired Rodrigo’s music.

SEE IT YOURSELF: Rodrigo heads back to the U.S. this month with a new opener, the U.K. hyperpop producer PinkPantheress, before the Breeders return for two final nights in Los Angeles.

Brutalismus 3000, “AMERIKATRÄUME”

April 11, New York's Knockdown Center

Every generation gets the Crystal Castles it deserves. Or in less niche language: This Berlin duo brings humor to their music, which veers from hyperactive techno to German Neue Deutsche Welle in their acquired-taste electronica. The shows are sweaty, and no matter your age, you will be the oldest person in attendance.

HIGHLIGHT: The duo samples Dido’s soft-pop hit “White Flag,” while waving a white flag. It works.

OPENER: The techno-punk LustSickPuppy, whose abrasive rave music is presented as a kind of nightmarish clown show.

SEE IT YOURSELF: Brutalismus will be hitting a few festivals in Europe this summer and fall.

Nicki Minaj, “Pink Friday 2 World Tour”

May 1, New York's Barclays Center

She will run on club time, and she will not disappoint. Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday 2” is almost a retrospective of her chart-toppers, shifting alter-egos with incredible ease.

HIGHLIGHT: At this particular show, Minaj brought out Cyndi Lauper to duet “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” after 1 a.m.

OPENER: Monica has joined Minaj for this tour, and in Brooklyn, Pepa of Salt-N-Pepa opened the show.

SEE IT YOURSELF: Minaj is hitting the European festival circuit this summer, then heading back to the U.S. in September.

Sum 41, “Tour of the Setting Sum”

May 6, New York's Brooklyn Paramount

Canadian pop-punk band Sum 41 has called it quits — and they’re going out in a blaze of glory, a farewell tour that has the immediacy of their youth.

HIGHLIGHT: Sum 41 does not want to exit quietly — they prove their endurance with an explosive set, fireworks and mosh pits and all. There’s also a giant, blow-up skull.

OPENER: The Interrupters, a ska-punk band that revitalized the genre, are worth arriving early for. At future dates, Sum 41 will be joined by Gob, Pup, Neck Deep and the Bronx.

SEE IT YOURSELF: Sum 41 is zigzagging across Europe and North America through early 2025.

Megan Thee Stallion, “Hot Girl Summer Tour”

May 21, Madison Square Garden

Not every artist can sell out Madison Square Garden on her first tour, but Megan Thee Stallion is not every artist. On her stage, Megan is an athlete and a dancer who delivers her fierce bars with an incredible crispness.

HIGHLIGHT: “WAP” is a can’t miss moment, of course — particularly if Cardi B makes a surprise appearance, like she did at MSG.

OPENER: Tennessee rapper GloRilla, who was most recently featured on the great, braggy “Accent” from the headliner's third album, “Megan.”

SEE IT YOURSELF: Europe will get to catch her in July, before she heads back home for a few festivals.

The Rolling Stones, “Stones Tour ’24 Hackney Diamonds”

May 23, East Rutherford, New Jersey's MetLife Stadium

The Rolling Stones ran through 60 years of hits across two hours, including cuts from their first album of new material in nearly two decades, “Hackney Diamonds.”

HIGHLIGHT: When it comes to The Rolling Stones, the entire show is the highlight — but for this audience, it was likely the rollicking rendition of “Wild Horses.”

OPENER: The soulful Jon Batiste, an award-show staple for a reason.

SEE IT YOURSELF: The Stones' North American tour continues through July.

George Strait

June 8, MetLife Stadium

They call him the King of Country for a reason. Live, George Strait can transform his one-off stadium shows into a honky-tonk; he performs with a big band and a lot of heart.

HIGHLIGHT: The closest a person can get to levitation is singing along to “Amarillo by Morning” in a stadium of tens of thousands.

OPENER: Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town, with Stapleton joining Strait for a new song called “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame.”

SEE IT YOURSELF: Strait has a two more stadium dates in July — in Detroit on July 13 at Ford Field and Chicago — and another in December, in Las Vegas.

Governors Ball: Chappell Roan, Sexyy Red, SZA, Peso Pluma

June 7-9, New York's Flushing Meadows Corona Park

Summer festivals across the United States tend to have similar lineups. Governors Ball, arriving early in the season, sets the tone.

HIGHLIGHT: Now is the time to run, don’t walk, to see Chappell Roan. And learn the “Hot to Go” dance.

OPENER: Sexyy Red’s frisky rap is hard to deny.

SEE IT YOURSELF: Many of these artists will be hitting festivals in North American and Europe this summer. In fact, if you want to catch SZA, Sexyy Red and Chappell Roan in one go, consider Lollapalooza in August. Pluma is currently on his “Éxodo Tour” across North America, running through October.

Feb. 18, Melbourne, Australia's Northcote Social Club

In the search for thrilling, cathartic underground music — particularly of the indie variety — look no further than the rich scene of Melbourne, Australia. CLAMM, the punk trio, brings a controlled aggression to their live show. It is ferocious noise punk that hits like inhaling hand sanitizer — stinging alert their audience with clever agitation.

HIGHLIGHT: Later this month, CLAMM will release a new record, “Disembodiment.” Live, they’ve begun performing the chant-along opening cut, “Change Enough.”

OPENER: At this particular show, the Aussie indie band Scott and Charlene’s Wedding and the rapper Mulalo. A genre-diverse club show is a life-affirming club show.

SEE IT YOURSELF: CLAMM are headed to Europe for a series of dates this July, and back to Australia in August.

Rodrigo’s spirited punky-pop warms an arena, as does her irreverent charms and Disney-informed dancing. If women performing their rage has fallen out of vogue, Rodrigo has brought it back , full force.

Image

HIGHLIGHT: For the fans of her big-hearted ballads — in one moment, she’s lifted into the air and circles the arena in a purple crescent moon to slow things down.

OPENER: The Breeders — fronted by the Pixies’ Kim Deal — legends of ’90s college radio and indie rock. There’s something completist about hearing an arena discover “Cannonball” for the first time, a song that no doubt inspired Rodrigo’s music.

SEE IT YOURSELF: Rodrigo heads back to the U.S. this month with a new opener, the U.K. hyperpop producer PinkPantheress , before the Breeders return for two final nights in Los Angeles.

Brutalismus 3000, “AMERIKATRÄUME”

April 11, New York’s Knockdown Center

May 1, New York’s Barclays Center

May 6, New York’s Brooklyn Paramount

OPENER: Tennessee rapper GloRilla, who was most recently featured on the great, braggy “Accent” from the headliner’s third album, “Megan.”

SEE IT YOURSELF: Europe will get to catch her in July, before she heads back home for a few festivals.

Image

The Rolling Stones, “Stones Tour ’24 Hackney Diamonds”

May 23, East Rutherford, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium

The Rolling Stones ran through 60 years of hits across two hours, including cuts from their first album of new material in nearly two decades, “Hackney Diamonds.”

HIGHLIGHT: When it comes to The Rolling Stones, the entire show is the highlight — but for this audience, it was likely the rollicking rendition of “Wild Horses.”

OPENER: The soulful Jon Batiste , an award-show staple for a reason.

SEE IT YOURSELF: The Stones’ North American tour continues through July.

SEE IT YOURSELF: Strait has a two more stadium dates in July — in Detroit and Chicago — and another in December, in Las Vegas.

Governors Ball: Chappell Roan, Sexyy Red, SZA, Peso Pluma

June 7-9, New York’s Flushing Meadows Corona Park

Summer festivals across the United States tend to have similar lineups. Governors Ball, arriving early in the season, sets the tone.

HIGHLIGHT: Now is the time to run, don’t walk, to see Chappell Roan .

Feb. 18, Melbourne, Australia’s Northcote Social Club
