When the road is flat, the spring knob can be used to suspend the work of the shock fork, allowing the rider to convert the power to maximum and increase the speed of the ride.

The Trek 6000 rides on Bontrager 26×2.2″ tires, which are narrow mountain tires with more limitations for riding in difficult terrain. It can ride smoothly and without skidding on muddy trails.

Seems like a solid bike, not as solid as my old huffy stone mountain , which btw always clashes gears no matter what lol , but of course trek 6000 more maneuverable, stealthy, quicker, very nice ride, I just got it today and took it out a few hours, got exercise without even trying to get exercise ,it was that much fun , so the health benefits alone , getting people off the couch having fun is worth it , ..at the bike shop I also road tested a silver aluminum mongoose bike, rode excellent , just a notch below the trek but of course that was just comparing the 2 off the trail , I know the trek handles very well , in my opinion , highly recommend, and if you can't get a 6000 , try the 3900 series or even 820 , all can handle trails , low maintenance , rugged ,fun bikes to have .

My tires had the non standard Schrader valve to pump up tires , this could be a,weakness as I don't have an adapter yet , but other than that seems fine

I recently started to drive quality bike. Before you meet with Trek - Star Trek :). Amazing bike! As a beginner um fascinated by its possibilities! Climbs incredibly well and with ease. Speeds switch crying. The brakes are excellent! I'm still a beginner, but I triathlete friend who introduced me to professional cycling. It cools too was fascinated by bicycle! Great bike ride with him pleasure to work and I thought rather than trips to other cities in the mountains :)!

Still familiar with the bike and I have no comment! The seat is not original with me, and brand Studies, but for now I am ok

Solid light weight hydro formed frame, very responsive, great climber

As with most store bought bikes...toss the saddle!

I have ridden this bike on several single track trails here in the low country of Charleston, SC as well as the hilly trails of Poinsett State Park near Sumter, SC. All around this is a great bike as it is very responsive in corners and climbs very well! The majority of the bikes parts are beginning level to entry level parts. Even though the SRAM X5 gearset is mediocre, I have not had any issues whatsoever and with SRAM's 1:1 Actuation derailleurs, the shifting is smooth and precise, even on the bumpiest root infested trails. The Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes are a nice addition as opposed to cantilever rim brakes which means you obtain much better braking in wet conditions. I have only had to replace the chain once due to a damaged link but I replaced the PC-951 with the nickel plated PC-991, which seemed to enhance the already smooth and precise shifting you get from the X5 components. My only gripe is the horrible prostate bashing saddle that came with the bike but I replaced it after a few rides. If you are looking for a great hardtail mountain bike that will tear up most single track trails just over 1K...I would strongly recommend this bike!

Trek 6000, nice lines and colours, nice frame with good geometry and reactions. When she's all tuned and adjusted just right its a nice feeling ride. I ride intermediate single track fairly hard and she lets me maintain a nice fluid rhythm.

After being broken in I expected tuning to last longer. I ride 3 times a week for 40 to 80 minutes of constant climbing then intermediate single track downhill. Front and rear derailleurs need tuning every couple of weeks. Brakes also need too frequent adjustment and come out of adjustment suddenly even in the middle of a ride. Downright dangerous. Best to learn how to tune your bike and pack your kit with you.

For the money its a nice looking nice riding beginner to intermediate XC bike that adapts well to moderate downhill single track play time. Drivetrain and brakes don't hold their tunes long enough. Too expensive to maintain if you're paying a mechanic everytime for tuneups. I could have bought an 09 Rocky Mountain Trailhead for $300 more which might have been a better buy because I understand it's Shimano drivetrain will need less tuning.

Fast. This bike moves and climbs like a goat.

A bit on the heavy side. Wheels make up most of it. Jones XC tires are P.O.S. Mech brakes tend to need constant alignment. I've read a lot of complaints about the saddle. While it's not the best thing out there, I don't find it horrible either. Hey, bike's a hardtail. If you don't know how to get up on the bike when it's due, any saddle will feel like Mike Tyson's boxing glove on a KO swing.

Upgraded the following : a. Bontrager wheels with Deore XT's UST b. Jones XC tires with Specialized Captains 2bliss. c. Replaced stock mech disc brakes with Tektro Draco hydraulics. I can live with the SRAM drive train for now, but the Dart 3 shox definitely gotta go. Dropped quite a bit of weight and got a very noticeable performance improvement. Trek nailed the bike's geometry. Albeit an average component set, the bike is fast. It holds its own on climbs too. Very efficient! Can't wait to put FOX 100mm shox and a Deore XT drive train on this baby. I'm givin' it 4 flamers

This review is for the 2009, and quite frankly Trek doesn't really have a bike like this anymore. I find the 2009 to be very no-nonsense throughout its spec. It's got a Dart 3 fork, Avid BB5 brakes and Sram X5 nine speed. None of these components on their own are something to write home about, but at the same time my first summer mountain biking I never really thought the bike was ever holding me back because everything works pretty well. With all of that said, if I were shopping today, cash in hand, I'd probably go for the 2012 Giant Revel 0, as it's essentially the same spec as my 2009 6000. If you come across a 2009 6000, buy it if you are looking for a bike that didn't make a sacrifice in one part of the spec for another. It's a good entry level hardtail all the way through. It's got Trek's higher level geometry and the frame seems really nice. Trek finishes their bikes well and stands behind them

its a very good bike to start with as it comes standard with 27 speeds, mechanical disc brakes, bontrager components, and a decent rockshox dart 3 with lockout, preload, and rebound adjustments

not very well speced for DH due to its long stem, short width handlebar, high standover, cross country wheels and cranks

If youre a begenner mountain biker or want a bike to pimp out over time and have the components already on there its great. another thing is the value, its outstanding so if youre stacked for cash or want a fun bike i would get the 6000

Difference b/t Alpha SLR Aluminum and SL Aluminum frame?

Would anyone mind telling me the difference between the Trek 4300/4500's Aluminum SL frame and the Trek 6000/6700's Aluminum SLR frame? They seem about the same to me.  

Your observations are pretty much right . . . when it comes down to it, they are very similar. They are supposedly lighter and stiffer. On the weight side of things a few years ago, i read that the difference was about 50grams . . .big wow. Stiffness wise, thats possible i guess. The rear stays may have more forming and shaping to them which could increase the stiffness without any real weight differences. On road bikes, the SLR frame seems to have smooth welding at the joins where as the SL frames have fish scale welds. In terms of choosing a bike, i would put SL v SLR as a minor factor. The other things like wheels, gears and brakes are going to have a significantly bigger effect on how the bike performs and feels.

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd. 

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that. 

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role. 

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
