Boring trade show booths don’t attract visitors and they certainly don’t help sales. But coming up with new and exciting ideas is costly and time-consuming. Or is it?

  • facebook icon

In this extensive guide to trade show booths, we provide ten creative examples in each of the following categories:

1. Trade Show Booth Ideas for Small Budgets

2. trade show booth ideas that attract visitors, 3. creative trade show booth ideas, 4. ideas for 10×10 trade show booths, 5. fun trade show booth ideas, 6. interactive trade show booth ideas, 7. trade show booth design ideas, 8. handshake ideas for booth design, 9. vendor booth ideas, 10. table display ideas.

Frankly, this post is jam-packed with trade show tips for exhibitors and trade show booth design tips to make your exhibition investment deliver results.

Now, let’s dive right into those examples that will help set you apart from the competition.

Trade Show Booth Ideas for Small Budgets

Small budgets don’t need to limit creativity and visitor experience. Take a look at what these groups did to make an impact without a lot of money.

1. Inexpensive and Flexible Options: DIY Pallet Repurpose

Pallets are a favorite DIY option because they can be so diverse, from furniture to event entertainment. They are now making their way into exhibitions as a unique, rustic way of displaying products, signage, or artwork.

Why it works: This exhibition “booth ” provides visitors with a more relaxed feeling. The pallet walls have an almost organic notion. They can also be moved to accommodate larger crowds. The minimalist seating area makes it feel more welcoming, encouraging guests to stay, yet it doesn’t detract from the exhibit itself.

Bonus tip : No need to construct your entire booth out of rustic wood. Focus on accents such as seating, shelving or planters.

2. Soothe Attendees with Nature: Indoor Pergola

The concept of “outside in” is a treat for attendees after being “cooped-up” all day indoors. This small booth cleverly uses a garden pergola, not an expensive frame. Other ways to bring the outdoors in are through live walls, garden furniture or games, and grass mats or carpets.

Why it works: Apple Wine ties in the bridal theme (as Pergolas can be a popular backdrop and stage for ceremonies) as well as creating an organic feel among what was likely a lot of non-romantic booths.

Bonus tip: Create a selfie backdrop.

3. Stand Out: Create a Floral Ceiling as a Rich Focal Point

This creative idea involves hanging flowers from their stems as a ceiling to your booth. It provides a gorgeous experience for those who enter the booth.

Why it works: It gives attendees a reason to come into your booth, and its effect is best witnessed directly underneath it.

Bonus tip: offer to take pictures of attendees underneath it and looking up.

4. Buy Once, Use in Multiple Ways: Adaptable, Modular Building

Adaptability can be the key objective if you want a lot of elements on a smaller budget. This idea incorporates blocks that can be built out a number of ways (think of all the fun you had with Legos). Each element of this booth is built from modules including the welcome podium, digital screen holder, signage display entrance and various walls and partitions. Smaller budgets can choose the options right for them and add on at a later time.

Why it works: not only is it a flexible design with an easy build out, but the block design itself lends an air of whimsy and a nod to childhood play.

Bonus tip: if your brand supports it, add additional notes of whimsy that passers-by can see and be drawn in by.

5. Gain Exposure: Photo-Op Walls

One of the easiest ways to get people to your booth is to provide a fun photo opportunity. All it takes is a bold image, a fun cut-out, or a cool backdrop.

Why it works: attendees love the opportunity to share photos with friends. Exhibitors, on the other hand, benefit from this exposure. Cut-outs can also be an inexpensive way to make a big impression, this cow cut-out is cardboard but it could be made out of anything.

Bonus tip: make sure your photo op is branded so that your company receives the exposure. And if you use a cut-out, why not allow attendees to dress it for added fun?

6. Play it Simple and Elegant: Wooden Signage

More is not always best, and simple white walls with elegant yet simple signage can showcase your brand better than heavy lights or aggressive colors.

Why it works: it’s all about elegance; this type of signage lends itself well to arts and crafts trade shows..

Bonus tip: use Velcro coins or Command strips to hang it on the wall. When the trade show is over, easily remove the sign and use it in your office..

7. Start Small: Pop-Up Displays

If you have a small budget, a pop-up display might be your best option. Pop-up display banners come in different shapes, sizes and material, but the standard design of the stands includes a foldable frame that pops up simplistically, channel bars that provide stability, and a display that either can be draped over the frame or comes pre-attached.

Why it works:   pop-up display stands are robust, lightweight and portable in nature.

Bonus tip: change the visuals for each trade show to keep some novelty factor.

8. Drive Interest: Use a Unique Piece

A whimsical piece or something that directly reflects your brand in a fun way can make up for a lot of complicated, high-priced extras.

Why it works: just like in-room decor, one magical piece can make a room. In this booth, the seats say it all. Look for unique pieces you can incorporate for big effect.

Bonus tip: we don’t all have unique, customized stools we can use but there’s likely something small that speaks to your brand that you can incorporate into your design. Bonus points if it’s photo op worthy.

9. Embrace Sustainability: Use Recycled and Recyclable Materials

Cape Wine Expo 2018 in South Africa created pre-manufactured stands made from Xanita, a material that is both recyclable and made from recycled cardboard.

Because of the way the booth walls were pre-manufactured using a modular design, the stands were easy to set-up and dismantle. Additionally, the stands are reusable.

Why it works: the stands are lightweight and flat-packed, which helps the budget and makes them easy to transport.

Bonus tip: tie its green elements into your own corporate efforts and highlight them in your booth.

10. Incorporate Light in Unusual Spots: LED Furniture

Many booths use light extensively to create ambiance and special effects, but it’s usually on the walls or ceilings. Having LED seats will definitely draw the eyes of the passers-by.

Why it works: attendees will be drawn to these bright spots of light and will likely be curious as to how it feels to sit on them.

Bonus tip: make sure the colors you pick are in line with your branding.

Trade Show Booth Ideas that Attract Visitors

For a successful trade show, you need attendees to buy from exhibitors. One of the best ways to ensure that happens is to generate traffic and attract visitors to booths. These booths drive traffic very well.

1. Get Guests Involved: Miniature Kitchen

Food is a crowd-pleaser, particularly for long exhibitions and trade shows. So, a mini kitchen is an excellent way to showcase products and let attendees get in on the action. This miniature kitchen has a TV screen to showcase delicious work, ensure that everyone can see the demos, and display information on the recipe ingredients.

Why it works: this is an interactive experience that engages the senses. You needn’t sell cookware or food to use a booth like this. You could replicate your office chili cook-off or something that represents your company culture or dedication to wellness

Bonus tip: allows guests to get in on the creation and sample the finished product.

2. Create a Relaxing Space: Sample Living

Create an “at home” atmosphere to make attendees comfortable so they’ll want to spend more time at your booth. This concept for Dyson’s exhibition stand helps guests really imagine the brand in their home as well as seeing products live in action. But you needn’t sell housewares to create a homey experience. Creating comfortable event spaces such as this give attendees a space to “take their shoes off.”

Why it works: home is where the heart is. A homey backdrop will make attendees feel comfortable and provide a much-needed spot to relax. They won’t feel like they’re in a sales space.

Bonus tip: serve warm cookies and ask them how their day is. Encourage them to put their feet up and relax. Don’t ruin the soothing atmosphere with overly zealous salespeople. Let your guests enjoy the peace and use a sales team that will help them achieve that.

3. Looking Out for Attendees: Smoothie Bikes

Two things that always draw a crowd: food and activity. This booth provides both. It’s a fairly simple idea. Attendees pick out their favorite flavors and then cycle to blend them. Voila! They have their own fruit smoothie or signature cocktail and they can walk away with. But it also creates a memorable connection between brand and attendee, not to mention the fun factor.

Why it works: these cycles are an excellent use of minimal space if you can just figure out how to manage the lines that will form.

Bonus tip: provide branded cups so they leave with something to keep. Encourage photos as they cycle and interview booth visitors and staff to share their signature recipe.

4. Entertain Guests: Use a Live Band

Adding live music to your booth can help to create a fun atmosphere that gets people to stick around. It can also attract a crowd as people can hear it from other areas and they’ll come to see what’s going on.

Why it works: in this booth, string artists transform the space with their instruments and aesthetics to showcase brand and products. The music is not overwhelming.

Bonus tip: find out the rules for music with the trade show organizers. You don’t want the band disrupting other activities they have planned. Plus, a band may make it difficult for salespeople to talk during the songs. Music is best used to draw a crowd and then your salespeople must be trained to hold their attention after the performance is over.

5. Go Big: Giant Gumball Machines and Helter Skelter

At CES 2018, Google had a huge presence showcasing their products and cool tech. The giant gumball machine and helter-skelter capture attendees’ imaginations in a big way. Sure, creating a village like this will be outside of the budget of most organizations. But it certainly had everyone talking about it and eager to have a full tour.

Why it works: This exhibit aims to be one of the biggest and most talked-about. And with Google’s budget, they achieved it.

Bonus tip: This may not be attainable for everyone, but being unique is. Think about past exhibits at the show. If you’ve never been, look for pics on social media or ask the event planners what’s been done in the past. Then, do something completely different.

6. Deal with Limited Space and Garner Attention: Go Up

If you don’t have enough room or you want to be seen from across the room, consider a multi-story booth. Aerial design attracts people and showcases your branding.

Why it works: building up shows an investment in the trade show (these booths aren’t cheap) but it also accommodates a lot more attendees. It makes your booth a destination.

Bonus tip: avoiding stairs means it will be accessible to more people. Ramps and inclines work well.

7. Create Another World: Use Projection Mapping

Invite storytelling in your booth by projecting imagery onto 3D objects, creating a wow factor that will have attendees talk about your brand long after the event is over. This example shows how a 16th-century chapel was turned into contemporary art, but projection mapping can be used on a much smaller scale as well.

Why it works:  projection mapping is very versatile and allows you to instill some magic in your booth experience.

Bonus tip: if your budget is tight, concentrate on a focal point, such as this dining table. And if you want to learn more about projection mapping, check this guide .

8. Go Holographic for an Element of Surprise

Holograms, which use a different kind of technology than projection mapping, are all the rage. This example is from a circus, but as recently as last November, X Factor Italy had an artist perform on stage and interact with competitors remotely via holograph.

Why it works: digital holography transforms your audience’s experience into something more immersive and interactive, and it allows you to bring an experience of something that isn’t physically there. Want to display a car without driving one onto the show floor? Holograph it.

Bonus tip: if you have the budget, an oversized hologram will certainly create a larger-than-life effect. Use it to cut costs by showcasing large or immersive products without the hassle of bringing them to the show physically.

9. Create a Disconnected Space: The Zen Den

Trade shows are often hectic places, where attendees try to cram as many sessions and exhibitors visits as they can in a short time. This booth invites you to stop for a while and follow a guided meditation available in 2- or 5-minute options.

Why it works: it’s an oasis for those feeling overstimulated by the noise and crowds. Also, people are becoming more mindful in their personal life, and this wellness trend is now permeating the events industry.

Bonus tip: you can add a feeling of privacy by adding light drapings inside the den.

10. Change the Perspective: Go High

At CES 2019, Omron, the electronics company, grabbed the attendees’ attention with a product specialist perched on a second-floor podium who described the robotic demonstrations taking place below.

Why it works:  this exhibit would have been hard to miss due to its sheer size (3,000 sq. ft) but the elevated podium gave it the added dimension of height.

Bonus tip: when you have such an enormous booth, the use of large screens will ensure that any action will be seen from a distance on the trade show floor.

Creative Trade Show Booth Ideas

Don’t be bland. Get inspired by these creative booth ideas.

1. Communicate Your Message Without Distraction: Cinematic Stands

For video content at your exhibition, these scenography cones are a captivating idea. The cone shape shields attendees from the business of the trade show and your guests are immersed in your message. The design is weirdly futuristic and definitely piques interest.

Why it works: there’s an element of fear of missing out behind these space age-looking designs. Plus, guests are completely consumed in whatever you are showing them.

Bonus tip: you have their undivided attention so make sure your messaging is helpful and interesting.

2. Make It Easy to Buy: Implement a Meeting Room

Creating a meeting space in your booth is an awesome way to hold your attendees’ attention and give them the opportunity to speak with you in a private setting. Some questions in the buying process aren’t meant for the prying ears at a trade show. Since buying is an emotional decision, you want to do everything possible to give your attendees the tools they need to make a decision at the show.

Why it works: this meeting room is still open enough people can feel part of the trade show without being in the middle of the trade show floor.

Bonus tip: allow and encourage attendees to make appointments to speak with your team in the meeting room. If someone attending the show is not the key decision maker, encourage them to schedule a phone call with the person who is in your meeting space. Make sure you have the technology available to do it. Don’t rely on cell phone connections.

3. Use Giant Containers to Create a World Within a World:

This award-winning “best booth” combines multiple tiers, rigging, and red carpet VIP roping to draw a crowd. With its textured walls and container build, it creates a warehouse club vibe on the trade show floor. The booth is built from modified shipping containers which create various levels and private spaces to be uncovered.

Why it works: the various areas can offer different entertainment, theme, and catering options for attendees. The “red carpet” service around the perimeter is functional for maintaining lines and adds a sense of exclusivity drawing more guests to it.

Bonus tip: adding spotlights from the upper-level rigging or snapping pics and sharing them to social media can help build buzz.

4. Entice Guests to Stay: Park-like Rest Areas

Provide attendees with some downtime at your event and some space to enjoy it. This “booth” is actually a park-like setting that guests can enjoy a treat and some quiet or spend time getting to know another attendee in a casual atmosphere.

Why it works: not only do people love free food but giving them this break and space to enjoy it, ties your branding into a positive experience. It also makes a nice photo opportunity.

Bonus tip: add a space or item that people will want to capture and share. Make sure you brand it. For instance, if you add a koi pond, place your branding on the bottom of the pool so it shows up in pictures.

5. Create an Ideal Setting for Your Brand

This exhibit speaks to being straight off the farm. It quickly communicates the message and allows attendees to sample the freshness with a cooler containing products, pushing them further down the sale funnel.

Why it works: the booth speaks for itself and carries through the message of the Expo as well. It also shows off an ideal “farm-fresh food.” Think of the ideal your company embodies and use that in your booth.

Bonus tip: If you use a bold item (like they use the cow here) brand it with at least your hashtag. It will undoubtedly end up in many pictures.

Make people assume things about your brand by creating an ideal setting.

6. Inspire Attendees with Art-like, Live Installations

This is another example of bringing the outdoors in but in an expansive, highly visible way. Its vertical use of greenery ensures it will get noticed from a distance.

Why it works: replacing a traditional wall with a green one is healthier, more open, and more visually appealing. It also gives you a natural way to talk about your company’s environmental practices. As an added bonus, it improves the air.

Bonus tip: on the last day, give the plants away to attendees. If you use succulents like this wall, transport and care are easy.

7. Take the Green Challenge with a Sustainable Booth

Green efforts have become a trend over the past few years and for good reason. Exhibit booths are some of the most wasteful installations. Some companies use them once and out they go. Thus the idea behind rentals. Other businesses are doing what SCIB is doing by using fully sustainable and reusable stand materials.

Why it works: it’s visually appealing and reusable.

Bonus tip: shipping adds considerable expense to installations so what many businesses are turning to is lightweight, portable materials like cardboard and recycled materials. Good for the planet and less expensive.

8. Save Money and Re-Use Items: Shop from Your Office.

Who says you have to order the components of your booth from a booth manufacturer? You may have some fun pieces around your office. Decorate with function and fashion using things you already own.

Why it works : today’s offices have a lot of non-traditional items that make great conversation starters. Using what you have can bring new life to what’s sitting in your stockroom.

Bonus tip: use/demonstrate your product in a new way like a seesaw made out of surfboards. Keep in mind that if your product hasn’t been tested for the new use, you’ll want to make it clear it’s for decoration only.

9. Showcase Different Brands: Create Distinct Spaces

When you have different brands to showcase, it might seem difficult to fuse them under the same corporate umbrella booth. But clever use of theatrical lighting and ambiance can help display each of your brand’s identities, as evidenced by what Belkin did for CES 2019.

Why it works: by fusing height, light, content and color, the corporate umbrella booth space enabled each brand to shine.

Bonus tip: Segment each space so that your attendees feel transported to another world when they move from one brand to the other.

10. Draw Attention to the Ceiling with Fabrics

Your booth ceiling doesn’t have to be boring. Check out what Columbia Sportswear did for their Omni-Heat brand debut at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market.

Why it works: the complex fabric structures from the ceiling and the lighting effects created a “can’t miss” environment.

Bonus tip: reuse it with a different lighting theme to improve the ROI of your booth.

Ideas for 10×10 Trade Show Booths

Small booth spaces can still mean big returns. Here are 10 ideas to inspire you.

1. Give Them Something to Do and a Reason to Do It

This fairly simple idea uses graphics to give immediate incentives to attract visitors and packs in plenty of storage space and a tasting station. The prize entry idea gets people to the booth and entering a giveaway by trying the product. Also, the stand design resembles a bar layout with fridge and display behind and the tasting area up front. They even fit in a flat-screen TV.

Why it works: it incentivizes product testing and introducing products to attendees while offering them the opportunity to win a prize.

Bonus tip: if you’re serving samples of your product, give people a way to visibly rate them so others can see the crowdsourced favorite.

2. Go Round for a Change

This round booth is a welcome change from the usual ‘square’ feeling of many small spaces. It provides a more inviting atmosphere, and gives a sense of perspective with the big central visual and the background visible on the sides.

Why it works:  it’s a pretty simple display with none of the clutter of some other booths, and that makes it a relaxing sight.

Bonus tip:  use the round format to contribute to the theme by depicting an environment, like a shoreline scene in this case, as round enclosures are great for giving the feeling of an open expanse, whereas corners make it more difficult to create that effect.

3. Boil Down Your Offerings for Quick Understanding

This booth showcases natural drinks and places fruit as one of the first things you see aside from their name and product. The attendee quickly assumes the drinks are made from these fresh fruits. It’s a natural assumption (and a bad pun).

Why it works: never make your guest wonder what you do. You don’t want to tie up your salespeople explaining the very basics of what you do and who you are as a company. Instead, do what this booth did. They make it obvious what their product is and one benefit. That helps draw in a crowd that would be interested in you.

Bonus tip: offer samples in branded cups so attendees can serve as walking advertisements for you.

4. Leverage Your Brand Recognition

Everybody recognizes Coca-Cola, so it doesn’t take a lot to convey the brand message at a trade show. Nevertheless, this small booth is sure to draw attention: what are those tubes and buttons for? Can I customize my bottle at this stand?

Why it works: this is very effective for brands that are easily recognizable like Coca-Cola. No need to showcase the name everywhere, the color palette and the shape of the bottle are enough.

Bonus tip: if you have a product that can be turned into a big prop, take advantage of it, you can afterwards use it at your office or in your showrooms.

5. Draw People In with Creative Flooring

Flooring can be an integral part of your exhibit like in this example where the flooring resembles a road that leads into the booth.

Why it works: not only does it draw people in but it can make your booth appear larger than it is.

Bonus tip: don’t use a big table or you’ll break up the continuity.  Alternatively, if you don’t have a lot of room in your booth, a minimalist approach with branded flooring, as shown in the second picture, is a unique solution, and can capture the attention of attendees looking down at their phones.

6. Command Attention: Use a Bold Graphic in a Small Space

Sometimes a bold graphic is all you need to get noticed.

Why it works: this works well when you have a recognized brand. A bold image allows your brand to speak without the clutter.

Bonus tip: It’ s a common trend but one that we’re going to use again: photo op. You can also enhance your image by creating a custom filter or frame on Snapchat or Facebook.

7. Create a Focal Point to Stand Out from Others

This display is larger than a 10×10, but you could create a version on a smaller scale. It uses 2D and 3D elements to draw attention to the back wall. This booth uses cardboard for easy build-out and tear-down.

Why it works: Many small booth exhibits look alike , a skirted table in front of a screen. This booth uses texture to focus attention on its product.

Bonus tip: be aware of exhibit height limits.

Speaking of building up the back wall….

8. Display Your Product in Creative Ways for Dramatic Design

A small stand can still take advantage of flexible back wall solutions and create a different look and feel at each show. These pegboards are a great option for smaller spaces. Set it up to give a creative display of your products and your brand.

Why it works: the trick is to create something visually appealing so that your product is both decor and on display.

Bonus tip: use a collage of pictures of customers using your product.

9. Set the Scene with Textured Backdrops

Printing saves money while texture adds interest. Color printing has become much less expensive in recent years, allowing exhibitors to do a lot of creative things with backdrops.

Why it works: the possibilities are endless with a printed backdrop along with the flexibility to switch it out with different shows for a completely new look and theme.

Bonus tip: your backdrop should complement your branding, not compete with it.

Fun Trade Show Booth Ideas

It’s not just girls who want to have fun. All attendees do. These booth examples provide lots of it.

1. Increase Sales Through Demonstration

Simplifying your focus at an exhibition is a good idea and this booth concept made reality helps to highlight the security products that are on display by the vendor.

Why it works: this simple but effective demonstration shows that the powerful security camera can capture details at speed as well as having great zooming capabilities.

Bonus tip: the design of the booth itself encourages attendees to learn more and the green strip lights draw your eye to where you should be focusing your attention.

2. Hand Out Custom Swag

Handing out swag is a classic trade show booth idea. By letting attendees put their own unique stamp on your merchandise, you decrease the probability that it will end in the trash. Bring a screen printer on site to make t-shirts, tote bags, etc. Let the visitor choose from a few design options and colors.

Why it works: people like getting free stuff, of course, but they especially like it when they can say they had a hand in designing it.

Bonus tip: by giving your visitors choices, you’ll ensure that your goodies are shared on social media and with friends.

3. Keep Them There Longer with Awesome Ambiance

This Heineken booth provides a lower bar and an upper balcony to enjoy your beverage.

Why it works: it keeps attendees at the booth longer and allows them to spend some time above the crowd.

Bonus tip: create artisanal cocktails or mocktails to further differentiate your booth from the competition. Serve each one in a souvenir cup.

4. Draw People in with Space-Age Technology

This exhibition stand design for Panasonic combines sleek, futuristic lines with intriguing lighting. Its size (roughly 8,000 sq. feet) means attendees can’t overlook it.

Why it works: this looks nothing like a traditional exhibition booth. It more closely resembles something from a sci-fi movie. Different means more traffic.

Bonus tip: with a booth like this, look to be on the outskirts of the exhibition hall. Traffic will come to you, but make sure your booth is accessible from all four sides.

5. Hook with Entertainment

Having a live band as we mentioned above is not always feasible, but some entertainers can easily blend in your booth. For example, hire a magician to blow your visitors minds with close-up tricks, or opt for a speed artist to create large portraits or caricatures in minutes.

Why it works: it’s difficult not to get hooked by a talented magician, and portraits or caricatures are items people love to bring back home.

Bonus tip: make sure your entertainers go from corner to corner of your booth so that they can attract as many people as possible.

6. Provide an Exciting Introduction to Your Brand

Mazda is known for cars that are fun to drive. They used that reputation in their driving simulator as well.

Why it works: the virtual driving experience drove a remarkable increase in leads.

Bonus tip: you might not have the production capabilities to create a driving experience but you can still drive leads with an exhibit demo that is fun to do/unlock with a badge scan.

7. Meet Attendees’ Needs: Mobile Beverage Service

Guests can work up a thirst on the exhibit floor. Few enjoy leaving to go get a beverage. It’s hard to find their way back again. This hurts the guest experience and the vendors.

Why it works: nobody has to leave the exhibit area and you are seen as a company that intuits customer needs.

Bonus tip: mobile drink server outfits can reflect your brand, the show theme, or a comical tribute.

8. Drive Action Through Sound-responsive Lighting

Sound-responsive and interactive lighting can create choreographed lighting displays or lights that seem to interact with your audience.

Why it works: this display involves multiple senses for a more memorable experience, not to mention a beautiful one.

Bonus tip: share your display on video so even those who couldn’t make the event can enjoy it. Don’t underestimate the power of beauty when it comes to social shares.

9. Go Vintage

Turn a small vintage Airstream into your display for a dose of kitsch. Update the interior to have a one-of-a-kind booth that’s both portable and hip.

Bonus tip: just make sure that you’ll be allowed to drive it into the event space.

10. Use Design Visuals to Remind Attendees of Fun

How do you bring the fun of a water slide to a trade show event? You certainly can’t bring that slide indoors. But with creative lighting and design, you can mimic the experience, minus the water.

Why it works: Splashtacular Entertainment used Skyline Exhibits to create watery reflections within its cylinder booth, which reminded attendees of the fun of being inside the tube.

Bonus tip: If you can’t bring your business to the trade show, consider creating an effective design element or using virtual reality to transport your attendees to your office or business location.

Interactive Trade Show Booth Ideas

Don’t just be present; involve your attendees.

1. Incentivize Action with Gamification

Playing games at your booth can be a light-hearted way of encouraging interaction and participation and this idea is perfect for those who want to stay on message as well. Incentivize participation at your both using a reward system that recognizes participation or the achievement of specific objectives with either material or social incentives. For everyone who can correctly state your four product verticals, offer them an item. For participants who complete all the requirements, enter them to win a trip.

Alternatively or concurrently, create a sense of competition by allocating points for performing desired activities and broadcasting a leaderboard.

Why it works: gamification uses the same mechanics that make video games so addictive, like short and long-term gratification structures, competition, and a sense of accomplishment, to encourage people to complete business objectives.

Bonus tip: make prizes relevant to you and your brand in some way so that they’re more memorable and everything ties together nicely.

2. Create Attendee Memories with Interactive Walls

Encourage attendee participation with installations that make them stop, think and interact. You could incorporate giveaway codes or hidden prizes or merely make a fun activity to keep them entertained.

Why it works: the active component entices people to participate and think about your installation. Creating an active experience makes your booth one they’ll talk about.

Bonus tip: add a leaderboard for healthy competition. Provide a prize for the overall winner of the day to create follow-up opportunities with attendees and keep them coming back to check on where they stand.

3. Educate Attendees in Areas Designed for Learning

This modular design shows a booth that accomplishes a lot, including functional areas set aside for group learning or instruction.

Why it works: This design provides a comfortable learning space and more intimate one-on-one areas for multiple uses.

Bonus tip: large crowds can use the classroom instructional design but if you find your audience is not filling up the space, move them to a more comfortable booth area. Base your use of the space on the conversation as well. General talks work well in the larger public area, while more sensitive conversations and questions, or people further along the buying cycle may enjoy the one-on-one.

4. Create the Ultimate Interactive Experience with Virtual Reality

While this example is not a VR experience from a trade show, it shows how you can immerse your guests in a live experience unlike any other.

The Sky Circus experience is a trapeze-like attraction that lets you glide over VR Ikebukuro, one of Tokyo’s multiple city centers.

Why it works: people are eager to try new technologies, and most have heard of VR but have not had the chance to try it. It’s very likely that offering such an experience will draw quite a crowd to your booth.

Bonus tip: VR headsets are now easily available; you only have to find the content that will fit with your branding. Design VR experiences that let people use your product. If your product isn’t conducive to an exciting VR experience, use it to reinforce your brand. Have you done any interesting CSR activations lately? Check out what Tom’s Shoes did.

5. Create a World of Your Own by Creating a Nested Effect with Lighting

We saw previously how this type of modular design can remove attendees from the hustle and bustle of a trade show. Now, add customized lighting, and you’ve created a world of your own .

Why it works: this experience may remind some people of that zany 80s show Mork & Mindy starring Robin Williams, but it’s incredibly effective at creating a den atmosphere that is at once stimulating in its modernity and yet strangely soothing (like Mork’s egg home).

Bonus tip: face the entrance in a direction people least expect. They’ll be super curious about how you get in and will circle your booth until they find it.

6. Increase Booth Traffic with Fun Vending

Rent or design a vending machine that spills out everything from product samples to trade show horoscopes.

Why it works: vending machines can be used for social media engagement or survey collection, answer a question, get a prize. Plus, there’s something about the anticipation of what you’ll get that is almost as great as the prize.

Bonus tip: film a few of the prizes, especially if you have some funny ones in there or offer people a chance to “make a deal” based on what they received from the machine and what’s behind curtain number one.

7. Make an Impression by Going Big in Tech

Reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, giant iPhones or iPads are so much more enjoyable to use for demos than the regular handheld size. Best of all you can rent them. They’re user-friendly and easy to see.

Why it works: giant iPhones and iPads have the same interest-grabbing effect that iPads and devices had when people first started using them at conferences. They made surveys and registrations fun to fill out. These clown-sized devices have that same novelty.

Bonus tip: pairing these items with other oversized things in your booth, like giant chairs or cups.

8. Capture Attention with Interactive Flooring

Remember the piano mat in the movie Big? It’s been replicated many times at trade shows, and for good reason. People can’t help but play with it.

Why it works: it takes a dull idea, something we walk on and creates an opportunity to interact. Plus, with more and more people staring down at phones, an interactive floor can still get their attention while they text.

Bonus tip: use as many senses as possible with lighting, sound, vibration, etc.

9. Turn Attendees into Rock Stars with Carpool Karaoke

This idea involved putting participants in front of a green screen and creating a video of them singing in the car.

Why it works: this spin-off of James Corden’s popular videos at the Cadillac booth at NAIAS 2018 was a lot of fun and quite the crowd-pleaser.

Bonus tip: if technology is not in your favor, and a green screen and professional video are more than you can handle, you can create a campy version by placing a car seat in front of a backdrop or positioning two chairs side by side and hanging fuzzy dice from the rigging.

10. Transform Attendees into Action Heroes

With this idea from Ford , attendees get behind the wheel and are featured in their own movie poster and trailer with the help of the Ford movie experts. You’ll need Ford’s budget, though, to pull it off. The estimate from the NAIAS Technology Report is that it costs the car company $250 per person.

Why it works: you make them the star of the show.

Bonus tip: a more frugal idea would be to use a backdrop screen and a smartphone.

Trade Show Booth Design Ideas

These trade show booth examples pay a lot of attention to the elements of design.

1. Make Them Look Twice by Using Illusions

Incorporate the weird and wacky into your booth to get attendees talking. Illusions such as this make it very memorable, causing most attendees to do a double take when they pass by.

Why it works: it grabs attention by causing the guest to wonder what’s going on. That natural curiosity provides the perfect opportunity to get to know someone.

Bonus tip: add a prize wheel to draw a crowd.

2. Pique More Interest Using Multiple Angles

Depending on the size of your booth and the show, it’s important to understand how the attendees will approach it. A design that appeals from every angle is a good, solid strategy that will help you use the same booth in multiple shows. This practice creates interest from the outset.

Why it works: This booth for Ivanhoe Cambridge has a variety of external media to attract guests, like touch screens for more information. These large external screens showcase and stream video plus transparent windows help others to see inside and get a feel for the atmosphere.

Bonus tip: If you’re creating a fear of missing out, you need to give them a good experience once they enter.

3. Garner Attention and Interest with Jellyfish Displays

There are few things that evoke the dreamy quality and natural beauty of the jellyfish but these displays encapsulate it beautifully.

Why it works: these jellyfish-inspired pavilions are ideal for showcasing products when you still want them partially shrouded in mystery.

Bonus tip: for a dreamlike experience or unveil. Play up its luminescent quality with lighting.

4. Make the Most of Each Event with Sustainable Modular Designs

This is similar to the Lego-like design featured earlier, but it is not intended to look like snap-together pieces. This exhibition booth can be disassembled and reassembled differently to meet the demands and specifications of the exhibit.

Why it works: at each show, you can create unique layouts to tailor to your attendees and target demographic. It has enough flair to be noticed, and with the 3D walls and protruding shapes, it’s an attention-getting design. Best of all, it’s sustainable .

Bonus tip: This block build’s flexibility means you can even use it back at the office.

5. Immerse Attendees in a Brand Box for an Undisturbed Experience

Creating immersion like this is a cool way to integrate your brand and avoid having it diluted by others. The exclusivity created by this box makes curious minds want to peer inside and walk through.

Why it works: Daikin does this by using its main brand colors and product concepts in the design. This limited palette stands out more than a multi-colored booth.

Bonus tip: when inside, attendees can wear headphones and experience different elements in the powerfully lit interior.

6. Showcase Your Message with Blue Highlights

Using lighting to your advantage to create cool effects is a clever idea, and this Total stand at the 2017 Astana Expo highlights this well. With a view on sustainable living, their statement involved the earth and sustainability, and they used their available technology to project ideas and proposals to attendees.

Why it works: Creating a darkened environment with blue lighting makes attendees concentrate and engage more with content in a cinematic experience. Perfect if you are trying to get important messages across.

Bonus tip: You needn’t use blue, but every color evokes an emotion. Make sure you work with a designer or understand how your color choice may affect mood and perception when it’s one of the focal points.

7. Grab Attention Through Interesting Design Elements: Falcon’s Nest

Take inspiration for your brand from nature. This exhibition booth inspired by a falcon’s nest creates a cozy environment for visitors. The different elements and textures incorporated in the design make it unique, while steps that lead to an open discussion and networking area create more interest than a mere table. But, there is also a private meeting area to have more in-depth discussions.

Why it works: The nature elements, like the greenery wall, are juxtaposed against modern LED brand signs and digital screens for added interest. It’s the perfect combination of nature and technology.

Bonus tip: Textures in your booth to grab attention and spark the imagination.

8. Capture the Flow with Curvature Viewing

An excellent way to draw attendees in along a journey and create a visual experience is to use something with a visual flow. This curved design at the San Francisco Wildcards Exhibition accompanying the ACADIA conference does just that.

Why it works: with plenty of space to play with the different elements of this curved display, it can showcase new ideas and feed one into another. The semi-circle can be used for grouping ideas, concepts, time periods, or other items. The different areas naturally lend themselves to different atmospheres while remaining part of a cohesive installation. The unique shape moves people along.

Bonus tip: Take the viewer on a journey or progression, as there’s a natural flow to the exhibit.

9. Get More Sales with a Large Atrium Design

This 150 sqm booth approaches things differently by enclosing the outer edges and creating a mini atrium with different seating heights in the middle. By using digital screens that are facing inwards, the brand can display different elements depending on the seating arrangement.

Why it works: It comfortably covers all stages of the sales funnel, from basic discovery to more in-depth conversations.

Bonus tip: don’t forget passers-by, who are going to experience your booth from the outside and have branding, signage, and brochure display options.

10. Attract the Ideal Customer with Ultra-Luxe Adornment

One of the best things you can do for your salespeople is to ensure they don’t waste time with those who aren’t a good fit for your product or service. If you sell a high-end product or service, creating a lacey showroom design that speaks to luxury and refinement will ensure customers self-select before coming in.

Why it works : Some vendors believe it’s good practice to speak to everyone at a trade show, but with limited hours and hands on deck, it’s most effective to speak with only the people in your ideal demographic. Creating a space that appeals to them will help attract your ideal client.

Bonus tip: Create a space that is attractive to your ideal audience.

Handshake Ideas for Booth Design

Make the most of your booth interactions and business opportunities with these ideas:

1. Get More Sales with Private Conversation Areas

This design offers high, well-branded walls that create individual yet open areas without sacrificing privacy, as well as private presentation and meeting areas within the stand.

Why it works: Tt provides a good design and more in-depth discussion past the awareness stage.

Bonus tip: A booth like this works well when salespeople contact possibilities before the event to schedule sales consultations and follow-ups with those who have already shown interest. It’s ideal for signing deals as well.

private conversation

2. Let the Product Sell Itself with a Product-Facing Design

Here, the focus is on the product- just what it needs to be. Sell more by placing it front and center so it does not compete with anything.

Why it works : This design creates good brand awareness and interest. It may also provide the emotional push needed to sign a contract.

Bonus tip: This design is best used with a sexy product that turns heads.

3. Create a Fear of Missing Out with Opaque Textures

This booth allows light in but provides a filter from noise and distractions. It also creates a fear of missing out among people walking past. They can see outlines of people inside but cannot see clearly what is going on there.

Why it works : It provides privacy but also the velvet rope idea, creating a VIP area that people are drawn to explore. They want to come in.

Bonus tip : Intriguing lighting.

4. Captivate Attendees with Luxury Materials

So inviting you can’t help but want to come in. Check out this pavilion made entirely of Italian tile by e+i studio in New York. The flow is inviting and reminiscent of a sweeping staircase, providing drama and interest. It also had a hidden information desk area behind the grand elevation.

Why it works: the design showcases the rich use of materials while still leaving an area for business.

Bonus tip: your access to luxe materials may not be as easily obtained as this tile vendor, but by creating a focal point, you can use high-end, dramatic materials for effect.

5. Land More Sales By Painting an Ideal

Sales are emotional. Creating a space that helps people envision the kind of life they’d like to lead can be a big winner. Check out this fun camping idea.

Why it works: Kurgo sells harnesses for dogs and while many of its owners will never do much more than walk Fido around the park, this Airstream trailer paints a picture of life on the open road with man’s/woman’s best friend, a very beguiling daydream.

Bonus tip: think about your demographic. What do they want? What type of lifestyle do they fantasize about? Create an image of that and place your product or service at the center.

6. Expand Your Brand Reach with Backlit Exhibition Stands

Backlit exhibition stands provide a natural looking light to displays. No glare or shadow to disturb your message. They appear to be lit from within.

Why it works: the l-shaped backlit stand provides privacy for the group you’re speaking with and information for those on the other side helping with all aspects of sales from beginning to signing.

Bonus tip: dramatic images.

7. Increase User-generated Content with a Leaderboard

This idea creates motivation for attendees to provide you with more user-generated content via a social leaderboard. The board can track most shares/interactions/mentions.

Why it works: user-generated content is much more valuable than crafted marketing messages these days. By motivating your audience to share content about you, you’re increasing word-of-mouth referrals and brand awareness.

Bonus tip: by awarding daily prizes for the most posts or the most correct answers or some other measurable category. Offering several prizes instead of one at the end incentivizes people to get involved throughout the event.

8. Master the Long Sell with Comfortable Surroundings that Meet Multiple Needs

If you have a “long sell” product or service, you can’t expect people to make a decision in 30 seconds so you want a booth that makes them comfortable. How about a kitchen, conference room, lounge and private meetings rooms, all within 150 sq. meters?

Why it works: It’s like a mobile version of your office but more fun and visually appealing.

Bonus tip: you can rent this space or host a drinks hour at your booth.

9. Use Nostalgia to Appeal to Your Attendees on an Emotional Level

Purchases are emotionally driven so connecting with the audience on an emotional level is a good way to secure more sales. Nostalgia is a powerful sway and that’s what’s so impressive about this design.

Why it works: harkens back to a time of enjoyable road travel with its older gas pumps. It’s very inviting.

Bonus tip: think of the type of nostalgic period that may work for your product and appeal to your ideal demographic.

10. Evoke Emotion Through Setting and Booth Design

The problem with many booths is that they’re bland. Even when they use evocative imagery and bright colors, they fail to elicit an emotional response. The exhibitors at Twitch wanted something dark and brooding yet enticing enough to draw people in.

The second booth is eye-catching and emotion-evoking. It incorporates feeling and a branded entrance in an “M” design. While the branding is the company’s, you can be assured that many people with a first or last name of starting with M stood underneath of it for a photo opp.

Why it works: using tone and setting can help you connect on a deeper level than branding can.

Bonus tip: think about lighting, materials, and imagery when considering the type of emotion you want to evoke. If you use a unique, branded element, like this M entrance, keep an eye out for it in social media streams. Share and comment on those who post pictures.

Vendor Booth Ideas

These designs and add-ons can make your trade show a more worthwhile experience.

1. Personalize Your Message with a Multi-Room Tunnel

The concept for this booth is massive and houses several different areas to accommodate traffic and different demographics for a large brand. Some rooms are in a meeting style while others have a children’s play area and relaxation chairs. The design itself is quite neutral and has a sky overhang.

Why it works The tunnel effect is interesting and the segmentation allows for brands that cater to different traffic types at once without falling short in any particular area.

Bonus tip: if the booth is segmented, you can offer a personalized experience in each area. Make sure each guest feels like you’re speaking directly to them based on their demographic.

2. Expand Your Reach with Looming Arches

Focusing on décor and high rises, this booth uses the branded arches as both a sponsorship opportunity and a way of attracting attention on the exhibition floor. With specialized meeting areas, guests can have one-on-one discussions away from the crowded floor. The foliage makes it more inviting and less sterile.

Why it works: height and branded arches increase visibility significantly. The booth also feels contained without feeling claustrophobic.

Bonus tip: special lighting on an arch can create a spectacular backdrop.

3. For a Stronger Theme Select Flooring Wisely

Some exhibitors don’t think about flooring, but they’re missing an opportunity to create a cohesive design. In this booth, even the carpet plays a part. The vivid blue of the carpet reflects that of the ocean and ties in with vivid images to attract guests.

Why it works: This design has a lot of open floor space, and it’s smart to capitalize on this.

Bonus tip: If you have a lot of open floor space, think about your flooring. There are carpet colors, printed wood laminate, and even interactive flooring that can help you make the most of this space.

4. Extend the Life of Your Booth (and get more value) with Good Design

There’s a lot of money in a trade show booth. Relegating it to a storeroom after the event is not a good return on your investment. Instead, opt for a design like this that has a second life in its corporate showroom after the event.

Why it works: Repurposing your booth for use in a corporate showroom, office, break room, lobby, etc., means a lot more people can enjoy it, and you get more value out of your investment.

Bonus tip: Modular designs lend themselves to this sort of reuse, a pedestal can be used here, and iPad station somewhere else entirely.

5. Provide Relief to Tired Guests

It’s no secret that attendees at a trade show walk quite a few miles while they are on site. Why not give them a chance to be off their feet for a quick 15-minute chair massage?

Why it works: People who have been on their feet all day will appreciate the moment of relief you offer.

Bonus tip:  Because massage is so popular, the line can get really long. You can provide a seating area for those waiting to receive a massage. Take it as a great opportunity to talk to people about your business.

6. Vary Your Message with a Touch Screen Display

The beauty of this stand is the versatility of design and touch screen technology. It makes a statement that your brand is modern and tech-savvy. It’s also appealing to look at and easy on the eyes. No need to squint at this large, colorful display.

Why it works: if your messaging is complex, you have video, or want the flexibility to run different content over the duration of the show.

Bonus tip: don’t treat this like an expensive brochure. Use its touchscreen capabilities to demonstrate and vary your information throughout the length of the trade show.

7. Keep Them Comfortable in a Minimalistic Setting

When is an exhibit booth not a booth? In this case. This example looks like an ultra cool lounge. In a sea of same, be different.

Why it works: its minimalist approach can provide a sea of tranquility in the business of an expo floor.

Bonus tip: comfort is key here. Since it doesn’t look like a booth, you need to give people a reason to visit and stay. It also works best for well-branded companies and customer advocates since the branding, while there, does not explain what you do.

8. Increase Social Conversion with a Social Media Display Wall

This idea needn’t be your whole booth but it is a nice addition that adds interest and an element of gamification.

Why it works: people love to see their name on a “wall of fame,” public recognition of others drives competitive personalities to work to get their name on the list too, and it serves as word of mouth marketing for you. Win, win, win.

Bonus tip: User-generated content should never go unacknowledged. Listen for it and comment to those who thought enough of you to mention you. Also, reuse their content in your own streams.

9. Create a Visually Intriguing Spot with Lighting

You can do amazing things with lighting fabric combinations. You create privacy and install a velvet rope where people see enough of what others are doing to want to be a part of it while the minimal barrier to entry also stirs interest.

Why it works: lighting and fabric can separate space, add visual interest, evoke emotion, and a lot more.

Bonus tip: decide what you’re going for: design, feeling, or privacy. Your goal behind the use of material and lighting will affect the colors and shapes you use.

10. Understand the ROI with Booth Analytics

This isn’t so much about a particular booth design as it is a smart booth design. Some booth manufacturers now have the capabilities of incorporating built-in booth analytics. No more relying on the exhibition planner to provide you with traffic estimates or using scanners to measure. Sensors can measure important analytics for you as part of your booth.

Why it works: footfall, hotspots, visitor dwell time, first time versus returning visitors, and team performance.

Bonus tip: data is great but in order for it to be of value, you need to use it. Before investing in this tech, ensure you have a good strategy in place to use your newfound knowledge. If it’s a multi-day event, don’t wait until the end of the trade show to review it. Look at it after the first day and make necessary adjustments to improve results for the remainder of the show.

Table Display Ideas

For those of us with very little room, it can all come down to a tabletop display or similar space equivalent. Here are some suggestions for how to make the most of it:

1. Create an Inviting Space to Increase Traffic

This example shows how adding succulents combats a sterile-looking environment. They’re also no-maintenance ways to bring the outdoors in.

Why it works: succulents are very trendy right now in design circles. Live plants are an inviting way to break up/segment areas in your booth as well.

Bonus tip: hide something unexpected in your “garden” and offer a prize to those who find it.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by EL2 (@elevatedelements2)

2. Encapsulate Your Branding in a Large Object

This is obviously larger than a tabletop display, but the idea can be downsized. Use a 3D object to encapsulate what your company does. With this display, the attendee sees an egg and immediately realizes (at least) the broad scope of the business.

Why it works: Trade show attendees walk past a lot of booths. You have to find a way to differentiate yourself from other displays. Using an object to give a broad idea of what you do will help people decide more quickly if they’re interested in you. That means your sales team will spend less time with tire kickers or people asking what you do.

Bonus tip: With any type of 3D object, the bigger, the better. Why? Photo op, of course.

3. Add Visual Interest with Comics

We’ve all seen hand-drawn videos illustrating what companies do. You can create the same effect in your booth by cartooning your products or display. You don’t need a big area. Just some artistic talent or a company with some.

Why it works: it adds some whimsy to your booth and is visually appealing to visitors.

Bonus tip: have an art or design department at your company? Then, there’s a good chance you have in-house talent that could create a comic focal point for your booth.

4. Grab Attention by Displaying Your Product in a New Way

Envision things in a new way with creative stands and displays like this example with hanging donuts.

Why it works: when you do something at your booth that an attendee hasn’t seen before, it will make an impression and they’ll remember the display. Do something really different and they’ll share it with others.

Bonus tip: Look for ways you can surprise attendees in your display. You can use an unusual display, like in this example, or hide something unexpected.

5. Use a Sign with Visual Appeal to Draw People In

Nobody said your tabletop display had to be flat. Using an undulating, or curved, design adds visual interest and draws viewers in.

Why it works: when exhibit space is minimal, it shrinks the area in which you can use to stand out. At this level, a lot of tables begin to look the same. An undulating graphic will help you get noticed.

Bonus tip: there are a variety of shapes out there. This undulating shape works really well with products and services involving water because it mimics the wave design. Look for a shape that complements what you’re selling.

6. Create a Professional Statement with Your Signage

Earlier, we showed backlit designs on a larger scale, but they also have tabletop options. Check out this backlit sign with a display area.

Why it works: the marketing message and product needn’t compete for top billing in this sign. You see both together. Ideal for a small space.

Bonus tip: if you don’t have products to display, you could use this layout to showcase image-quote testimonials mounted on foam core.

7. Add Focus Where You Want It With Lighting

These modular light-up designs allow exhibitors to bring the focus where they want it. These are bar-height LED columns.

Why it works: adding pizzazz to areas like tables and stands. Light focuses the visitors’ attention.

Bonus tip: if you light up an area, think of that as a spotlight, something to direct your visitors. Don’t light up a table just to dump brochures on it.

8. Create a Statement with an Artistic Focal Point

Harmonizing contrasting elements like this may bring people to your booth just to check out the art.

Why it works : This installation uses several non-complementary colors and materials to create a striking focal point.

Bonus tip : Exhibit stands can be pricey. You may be able to work with an artist/someone on Etsy to create something unique to your company for about the same price as an exhibit stand or table.

9. Surprise Visitors with a Visual Treat

At first glance, this appears to be just another table. But they’ve added an artistic flair and conversation piece on the side.

Why it works: it breaks up the space and adds something of interest. It also sparks curiosity. What is that zipper doing there? What does it mean and what is it hiding?

Bonus tip: maybe a zipper doesn’t say anything about your brand, but you can find some object that does. Incorporate it on your table in an unexpected way such as a graffiti image or trompe l’oeil.

10. Strengthen Your Marketing Message in Textures

We talked about how lighting and color can affect emotion and interest but textures can play a big role too. In this marriage of corporate messaging and design, you see the company message “Built for Durability” on a riveted texture that also communicates strength.

Why it works: the words match the visual and cement the idea in attendees’ minds.

Bonus tip: think about what adjectives describe your business and its offerings. What materials reflect that same idea. For instance, if the word is luxury, silk may be a good option or using satin may work. If the word is green, burlap may be a good choice or bamboo. Play with textures until you find one that fits your business.

Six Exhibit Design Trends

When it comes to trade show booth design, six trends have dominated for inlines and islands over the past five years.

  • Large Tension Fabric Graphics
  • LED Lightboxes with Backlit Fabric
  • Rental Inlines and Islands
  • Sustainable Materials
  • Customization

With the exception of basic portable displays, modern trade show exhibits are bigger, brighter, and curvier than ever. Even traditional square and rectangle booths have gotten more upscale as customization has gotten easier and more affordable. Rentals included. Gone are those basic and battered booths so common from show organizers and general service contractors (GSC). Now, it’s nearly impossible to tell a purchased booth from a rented one from most exhibit houses. In other words, trade show booth design, construction, and ownership are more flexible and beautiful than ever before.

Getting Started with Trade Show Booth Design

Every perfect trade show booth design starts with identifying your audience, marketing goals, and trade show budget. Exhibit designers use this information as the first step, then they’ll ask additional questions to fine-tune the booth to your specific requirements. For example – they’ll identify whether you need storage, meeting areas, overhead signage, and accessories like monitors, literature trays, charging stands, etc. They’ll even determine if you’ll need rental furniture like office chairs, sofas, and end tables and suggest styles to match your graphic design.

The 15 trade show booth design examples below show recent design trends in custom, modular, and portable displays, along with sustainable exhibits and rentals. Don’t be afraid to drill down on what works (and doesn’t work) for your booth design vision. Then share them with the exhibit designer.

6 Trade Show Booth Ideas & Examples (Islands)

1. GK-5153 : Island Exhibit

trade show booth ideas veggie noodle

A well-designed trade show island exhibit should be attractive, inviting, informative, and practical. The GK-5153 does all that… and more.  It combines a casual meeting space with functional counters for product samples. The design includes a reception counter, also with locking storage. Throughout the island, there are large graphic opportunities at multiple angles to attract attendees from every aisle, including a 16 ft. tower.

Many of the flat panels are from the patented Gravitee System, which connects without tools or loose parts, making assembly much easier than traditional panels.  The Large Aero Overhead Hanging Sign pulls it all together with internal and external graphics.

2. GK-5147 : Island Exhibit

travel trade show booth ideas

It’s the complete package. The GK-5147 island maximizes the available space with double-sided curved panels. The design includes iPad workstations, monitor mounts, and a presentation area. There’s an attractive custom reception counter with a backlit graphic and LED accent lights. In addition, the islands have multiple seating areas all with USB charging ports so your clients can charge their phones and tablets. All the curved panels are from the patented Gravitee System, so individual panels connect without tools and there are no loose parts or pieces.

3. RE-9091 : Island Exhibit

trade show booth ideas

An island exhibit doesn’t have to stand tall or be overly complicated. It simply has to fit your tradeshow marketing needs… and get noticed. The RE-9091 rental island has two eye-catching double-sided SuperNova lightboxes. These lightboxes assemble quickly and are always the star attraction in any booth space. The RE-9091 has a large full-size closet along with storage in each reception counter.

In addition, the closets do double duty, serving as lightboxes on the two longer sides and supporting a monitor in the lounge. High above, there’s an Aero Triangle Hanging Sign so you’re sure to attract attention from across the show hall.

4. RE-9139 : Rental Island

The RE-9139 Rental Island goes way beyond a pretty picture. We’ve incorporated key features such as large graphics, private and semi-private conference rooms, towers with locking storage access, and workstations and reception counters with secure storage. Not enough? Then add product shelves, large and small monitors for presentations, a variety of light fixtures, and hanging signs for high visibility from anywhere on the show floor.

5. ECO-4094 : Sustainable Island

Looking for a big bang on a modest budget? Plus a sustainable design? The ECO-4094 doesn’t disappoint with (3) double-sided backlit towers, fabric graphics, ample meeting space, and an amazing reception counter with locking storage. The open format allows for multiple entries into the booth, which can often be a challenge for an island exhibit. The 12 ft. tower can support a large monitor and there is enough space for presentations. All that and built with eco-friendly materials.

6. ECO-41 0 0 : Sustainable Exhibit

The ECO-4100 Sustainable Exhibit takes a traditional square design and transforms it into a more inviting space with curves. There are two demo stations facing the aisles, a backlit counter with storage, and a cozy lounge in the middle. The large overhead attached sign ensures you’ll be seen from any angle on the show floor. You go to trade shows to be seen… so be seen with the ECO-4100 20 x 20 island booth.

5 Custom Trade Show Booth Ideas

1. Travel Portland Custom Booth

Custom Trade Show Booth Ideas

A city known for its vibrant culture, arts, food, bicycling, festivals, and nightlife, Travel Portland wanted to present a multi-sensory experience of the city. This island exhibit needed to flex for use at three shows per year in a 20×20 or 20×30 configuration. One requires an informational experience, one focuses on setting meetings with destination planners, and one is focused solely on the attendee’s sensory experience. The ability to change out graphics easily for each show was paramount. Travel Portland requested lightweight components to reduce shipping costs and a modular structure that was easy to assemble and easy to reconfigure between 20×20 and 20×30.

2. Google’s Custom Booth

travel trade show booth ideas

Google wanted a fun, creative, almost childlike atmosphere in their island exhibit, similar to the vibe in Google offices around the world. Google had a long wish list of functional requirements: multiple seating areas, interactive spaces including a selfie wall, storage for swag, a tall visible structure, a distinctive hanging sign, a prominent reception counter, and strong digital moments.  All of which had to fit in a 20×20 space without feeling cramped. Finally, the 20×20 had to be easily reconfigurable into larger booth sizes at future shows.

3. Custom Booth for Slate

travel trade show booth ideas

Slate wanted a welcoming, attention-grabbing, and professional atmosphere that incorporated a Seattle theme where the event was held. They needed multiple meeting spaces, product demo workstations, and large-scale eye-catching graphics. They reserved a unique 20×60 space that spanned the windowed atrium between the two show halls. Slate’s nature-themed design in the arched atrium complemented the space and appeared to extend far beyond the 20×60 footprint it occupied.

4. Home To Go Custom Exhibit

travel trade show booth ideas

As a first-time exhibitor in the US market, Home To Go wanted an impressive presence at their industry’s largest event. Throughout the year, they exhibit in 10×30, 10×20, and 10×10 shows, requiring their exhibit structure to be flexible yet visually consistent. Home To Go’s strategy for increasing visibility was to “glow.” They chose an expansive 30 ft. back wall lightbox with a surrounding wood frame. The outside of the frame is covered in a dark woodgrain laminate, and the inside is laminated with Home To Go’s signature purple, which further reflects the light from the backlit graphic.

5. Custom Booth for Odyssey Foods

travel trade show booth ideas

Odyssey Foods wanted attendees to sample their unique products in an intimate yet approachable experience that mimics an authentic Seattle bistro. An effective chef demo was critical, including seating for buyer conversations and a large menu board to showcase recipes being prepared. This demo area needed easy access to a private prep and storage area. Additionally, the client required real and engaging display areas to showcase the array of Odyssey products. The ongoing menu and product updates required multiple large areas for signage that could be easily changed.

Event planner at work.

If you’re looking to crush your trade show goals, you need to create a booth that’s unique, enticing and memorable. Here are 21 trade show booth ideas that will help you stand out from the crowd, attract more foot traffic and create a lasting impression on event attendees.

  • Go in with a plan. Have a clear idea of what’s most important for your business at this trade show. Do you need to collect contact information (lead gen)? Or are you just trying to get your brand in front of as many sets of eyes as possible? Come up with a tangible goal you can use to stay focused and measure your success.
  • Location, location, location. Foot traffic is the currency of trade shows. If you get to pick your location on the show’s floor plan, make sure you get it right. Go for a spot where multiple lanes of traffic meet and avoid the entrance area at all costs. If you can secure a spot near restrooms or other amenities, even better.
  • Dress your booth for the weather. You can make a killer impression on attendees by letting your booth adapt to the climate of the trade show. A pop-up tent turns your booth into a safe haven during hot sunny days and rainy weekends. If you want to go the extra mile, give out sunglasses or umbrellas.
  • Recruit staff for your booth. If you’re a solo entrepreneur, manning your booth by yourself is going to be an exercise in frustration. Look to bring in two or three people to help you interact with guests and demonstrate your product or service to attendees. If you’re on a budget, you can recruit family or friends—just make sure they’re the “personable” type.
  • Be on-brand. Don’t just show up to the event wearing anything. Make your brand a part of your attire. If you have branded tees or polo shirts, you and your booth crew should all be wearing them. If that’s a little too casual for your event, coordinate with your team and have a solid plan for incorporating your brand colors into your event uniform.
  • Make it educational. Is your brand doing something new or interesting? Use your trade show as an opportunity to teach attendees about your product and the solution you offer.
  • Let your attendees get hands-on. Showing off your product is a great way to build brand awareness, but you can do even better by making it interactive. Let attendees get their hands on your product and see for themselves how it can improve their lives.
  • Don’t forget the samples! Are you running a food-based business? Beauty or skincare product? If so, giving out samples shouldn’t be considered an option for you. It’s a must-do. Attendees will remember you if your sample makes a lasting impression. Chances are, you’ll get a solid amount of repeat visits.
  • Bring on the fun and games. For you, trade shows are all about drawing up business. But attendees want to have a little fun. Find a way to gamify your booth. You could set up a prize wheel, offer some trivia, or even go backyard style by setting up a cornhole area. Don’t forget to sweeten the pot by offering a prize.
  • Run a social media contest. Create a branded hashtag and run an Instagram or Twitter contest giving away your product to whoever has the most creative post.
  • Turn your booth into a charging oasis. Who says you have to splurge on flashy effects to keep your booth buzzing? Invest in one or two USB charging docks and you can effectively turn your booth into a charging hub. Take advantage of the time guests are fueling up their devices by doing some old-fashioned lead-gen.
  • Make a trade show playlist. Music can set the mood for just about any occasion. Spend some time making the perfect playlist for your brand. With your smartphone and some portable speakers, you can give your booth the perfect atmosphere.
  • Turn your booth into a rest area. If you don’t have the budget for giant LCD screens or live entertainment, go in the other direction with your booth. Turn it into a relaxing place where attendees can unwind. Find some affordable renting furniture, or even bring in some from your own office. Guests will appreciate having a place to sit down for awhile. And it gives you a chance for some extended conversation (and sales pitches).
  • Are you crafty? Go DIY. You don’t have to break the bank on snappy branded displays. If you have the time and the creative chops, make your own!
  • Hydrate thirsty attendees. Guests spend multiple hours at these events, and they’re bound to get dehydrated. Buy some water bottles in bulk from a wholesale store and give them away to anyone who wants them.
  • Set up a photo booth. In the age of Facebook and Instagram, attendees will want to show their friends and followers just how interesting their weekend at the trade show was. And if it’s your booth that ends up on their feed, that gives you a little more social media presence too. If an actual booth is out of your budget, set up a space for attendees to take a selfie—ideally with your brand front-and-center.
  • Run a raffle. Whether you’re looking for email addresses, phone numbers, or mailing addresses, running a raffle is a terrific way to grow your list for future ad campaigns. You can use your own products as prizes. If you have a service-based business, entice attendees with an industry-related gadget as the big prize.
  • Turn heads with live entertainment. As any veteran advertising executive will attest, the first step to attracting new customers is to get their attention. Creative use of a live entertainer (decked out in your brand, of course) can trigger the curiosity center in event guests’ brains. You could hire a magician, dancer, juggler, or model. Just no clowns.
  • Send your brand home with attendees. Branded swag is a tried and true way to do some easy marketing. T-shirts, pens, trucker hats or reusable shopping bags are all things you can have custom made with your logo to give away at your event.
  • Utilize the space above your booth. How do you get attention from attendees on the other side of the trade show? Find a way to get your branding up in the air with floating or hangable displays.
  • Invite a featured guest speaker. Who hasn’t seen at least one Ted Talk? People love to listen to experts take a deep dive into a subject. Give attendees something to think about by finding a local expert or influencer in your niche to present at your booth. If public speaking is your thing, you can step into this role yourself.

Trade shows are a fantastic place to generate leads, build your business brand and get instant feedback on products. The catch is you’re competing with hundreds of other vendors for attendees’ time and attention. With a solid game plan and a little creativity, you can be sure you’re getting the most out of your time at a trade show:

  • Find a way to stand out. Trade show attendees have hundreds of potential booths to visit. What are you going to do to make your booth differentiate itself? Create an irresistible atmosphere and the guests will come.
  • Be accommodating. Once you reel them in, you have to find a way to hold attendees’ attention. Utilize activities to get them involved and keep them engaged.
  • Make it memorable. Remember, your ultimate trade show goal is to build your business. Think about ways you can leave a lasting impression on attendees and give them something to think about or look forward to long after the show.

After putting in all that hard work, you’ll also want to make sure you’re protected should any mishaps occur on the day of your event. Say you knock over an item from the booth next to yours, or you accidentally injure a visitor during a presentation. In either case, you could be held liable. Thimble’s Event Insurance covers you for bodily injury and property damage the day(s) of your event. Simply enter your name and the details of your event, and in 60 seconds you’ll get a free quote delivered straight to your inbox, where you can click to purchase.

Attributed to marketing legend Seth Godin, these words are incredibly relevant to marketers preparing for their next trade show. It’s not enough to have an interesting booth theme or fun activities to do. Your trade show booth needs to stand out among what could be hundreds of other exhibitors (especially your competitors!). In fact, the right trade show booth can mean the difference between a positive ROI and a lackluster turnout. (Tweet this!)

For inspiration, we walk through several cool trade show booth design ideas below. But before we explore those, let’s review a few tips on developing a memorable booth experience.

Trade Show Booth Design Tips

The most important thing to remember when designing your booth is this: Your theme should always tie in with your brand and the message you’re trying to convey to visitors. I’ve seen many great trade show booths that had interesting themes, but missed the mark with visitors because there was little to no connection to the company’s brand. Sometimes the design even felt gimmicky—something you never want associated with your brand.

To convert attendees to booth visitors and leave a lasting, positive impression on them, employ these tips as you design your next trade show booth:

  • Know your audience. As a marketer, you know this adage all too well. But sometimes even the best of us forget to stay grounded in our audience’s perspective when inspiration strikes. Keep your audience in mind with every design decision to ensure the final output resonates strongly with them.
  • Define the emotion you want visitors to feel. How do you want the people that visit your booth to feel when they walk away—excited, relaxed, trusting? It can be a traditional feeling or a more abstract concept. Either way, design with that feeling in mind. For example, at one of our trade shows, we wanted visitors to think, H&P is super cool, and I enjoyed my time at their booth. So we incorporated a few interactive activities like a Tetris game and a wooden puzzle bar , where visitors could sit and spend time with us while lightly engaged in gameplay.
  • Give visitors options for interacting with your brand/team. Keeping in mind your audience, consider several ways they can interact with your team. For example, while your first instinct might be to make everything at your booth digital, not everyone responds the same to a digital-centric experience. Consider some analog activities for visitors who either aren’t tech savvy or just want the opportunity to disconnect.
  • Be purposeful and creative with giveaways. Attendees know the difference between prizes you’ve bought for attention versus items that tie in with your brand. Swag should be memorable, meaningful, and on-brand.
  • Train your booth staff well. Nothing ruins a great booth experience like technical difficulties and untrained staff. If your booth team doesn’t know how to work the equipment you’ve set up or is uninformed about what they should be doing and when, your visitors will leave with negative impressions. Ensure all your staff members are up to speed.

We put together a video on the above tips, which provides additional details. Check that out below.

7 Great Trade Show Booths

Purposeful design is paramount when designing a trade show booth and experience. To make the most of the limited space you’re given at trade shows, remember your reasons for exhibiting. When developing their conference booth display ideas, the companies below started their thought process with, What do we want to accomplish? instead of, We need X, Y, and Z. This perspective helped them create standout designs.

The company: Cybereason is a cybersecurity company that specializes in solutions for endpoint detection & response (self-remediation) and managed detection & response (24/7 monitoring and remediation by its team). It also offers multi-layered antivirus software and other monitoring, response, and analysis services.

The event: As you can guess, it’s a high-tech company. So its team exhibits at trade shows like the RSA Conference , which addresses the latest cybersecurity developments through keynote presentations, seminars, and information security events around the world. Cybereason exhibited at RSA’s 2018 conference with the booth below.

Cybereason trade show booth

The booth: The main reason for exhibiting was to connect with visitors and generate leads. To do this in a memorable way, they considered the movie they had recently created about the history of cybersecurity— The Defenders. This served as inspiration for their booth theme.

Our team here at Hill & Partners helped them conceptualize, design, and execute on a classic movie theatre theme for their 20’ x 20’ booth. From a mini concession stand to signage to theatre seats, visitors were treated to a real movie experience (including popcorn!).

A trailer for the movie was played every 10 minutes, and all visitors who watched it received “tickets” to access the full-length feature. One lucky attendee from each trailer session even won a pair of Air Pods.

The Cybereason team was ecstatic about how everything came together, as well as how enjoyable the experience was for visitors. In fact, many people stopped to take pictures of the booth because of how it stood out among the 100+ other booths on the floor. Cybereason’s results also stood out: the team generated over 5,000 viable leads, a 300% increase in leads from the previous year’s trade show efforts. In addition, this exhibit won a silver Davey award in the Experiential & Immersive-Live Experiences category.

The company: Foundry, a brand of General Cigar Company, is a tobacco company that makes a collection of themed, premium cigars inspired by steampunk, an artform that combines elements of the industrial revolution and nostalgic futurism.

The event: Foundry exhibited at the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers (IPCPR) annual trade show, which helps tobacco retailers network and sell their products.

Foundry trade show booth

The booth: Given Foundry’s steampunk inspiration, the design of its 20’ x 40’ booth shouldn’t be too surprising. It mixed elements of the past and future, with visitors being transported from an industrial revolution’s mad scientist laboratory to the year 2064, where aliens are seen making cigars. Elements like “steam” (actually a smoke machine) added a realistic flair to the space, helping visitors immerse themselves in the experience.

The Foundry team was happy with the results: exhibit traffic increased by 45% compared to the previous year's booth, despite attendance being down 20% at the event. The Foundry booth also won a gold EXHIBITOR design award in the Use of Storytelling category.

The company: Payfactors offers cloud-based compensation management software that helps automate and centralize compensation data.

The event: Since Payfactors is in the HR space, its team exhibited at the 2017 Total Rewards Conference & Exhibition , an HR event for information and technology sharing across compensation, benefits, and other HR areas.

Payfactors trade show booth

The booth: Since Payfactors was a newer company at the time, its team wanted their 20’ x 20’ booth to stand out in a “revolutionary” way. So that concept is exactly what we developed together— a revolution in compensation. We used brick, corrugated metal, plywood, and graffiti messaging together to create an urban, industrial feel. To keep attendees engaged and coming back for more, they also passed out Bluetooth-enabled bracelets that lit up when visitors were meant to return to participate in giveaways.

Payfactors’ trade show exhibition was extremely successful and accomplished exactly what the team set out to do—not only did their booth stand out, it also resulted in a 300% ROI. In addition, the booth won EXHIBITOR magazine’s award for Best Island Exhibit Less Than 600 Square Feet. One of numerous exhibition booth ideas we came up with, this concept definitely delivered on its revolutionary intention.

The company: Scorpion is an internet marketing company that helps businesses get more customers and grow revenue through services like website design, digital advertising, content marketing, and more.

The event: In 2018, Scorpion exhibited at the Dwyer Reunion (now called Neighborly Reunion), an event that brings together Neighborly’s 20+ brands to connect with one another and meet with vendors that may be able to help their businesses. Below is the booth Scorpion used at the event.

Scorpion trade show booth

The booth: Scorpion is a preferred Neighborly vendor and wanted to connect with leaders of other Neighborly brands. Given the audience’s interests and Scorpion’s focus at the time on sports marketing, the Scorpion team collaborated with us to create this on-brand sports experience, complete with branded helmets and hanging jerseys to simulate a locker room.

In addition, the 20’ by 40’ booth included a jumbotron-like setup to mimic a football stadium and enlarged playbooks to evoke an on-the-field feel. Throughout the event, the screens played a mix of Scorpion content and a live sports game. This helped attract people from a distance. When visitors stopped by, the Scorpion team was able to hold informed discussions about their products and services through the embedded screens on the desk (not shown) and iPads.

The Scorpion team found it easy to draw in attendees and engage them with both the booth elements and product discussions. When visitors were able to tear themselves away from watching the game, they left with a memorable experience and a positive impression of the Scorpion brand. Scorpion’s booth also won a gold Hermes Creative award in the Print Media, Advertising, and Trade Show Exhibits category.

The company: Rapid7 is also in the cybersecurity space. Products from the company enable visibility, analytics, and automation for security operations (SecOps). It also offers services for managed detection & response and advisory, among others.

The event: Also a high-tech firm, Rapid7 attended Black Hat , an information security event series that provides attendees with information security research, development, and trends. The Rapid7 team exhibited with the booth below in 2016.

Rapid7 trade show booth

The booth: Yes, that’s a moose. It’s actually their internal mascot, which ties in with the rest of the theme—showcasing the internal look and feel of Rapid7 to people outside the organization. All elements of the 20’ x 30’ booth—including the brand colors, wood paneling, and deck containing small meeting rooms—were inspired by its headquarters in Boston.

Most people in the industry know of Rapid7 in part due to the big party it hosts in Las Vegas every year. Attended by thousands of engineers, analysts, and hacker types, it helps raise and maintain brand awareness with a good-time feel. It’s a pretty big deal, and the booth drew a never-ending line of 100+ people who wanted to get tickets.

But the moose also served another purpose: to generate social engagement. After all, who doesn’t want a picture with something as unique as a wooden moose? Visitors who uploaded a picture with the moose and used the company’s hashtag on social media got to skip the line. (Plus they got a free shirt!)

The Rapid7 team loved the creativity we employed , and how we were able to maximize their booth footprint. And their moose received a ton of shares on social media, helping spread brand awareness.

The company: Newgistics is a logistics and technology company that helps ecommerce businesses with tech solutions, hosting & managed services, and fulfillment.

The event: With their focus on ecommerce, Newgistics took to the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition (IRCE) , a trade show for e-retailers to stay up to date on the ecommerce industry and connect with potential vendors.

Newgistics trade show booth

The booth: Given Newgistics’ goal of generating leads, its team wanted a space that attracted people from across the showroom floor. A key part of this was making use of vertical space within the 20’ x 20’ booth, which we did with a collection of layered, multi-sized monitors. In addition, the booth featured boxes that were branded with logos of their clients. These boxes coupled with metal rollers helped visitors connect with the logistics focus of the company.

The Newgistics team enjoyed the final product and valued our choice of multiple monitors over the typical large, tiled screen since it saved them money and helped the booth stand out.

The company: eBay is an online marketplace that facilitates consumer-to-consumer and business-to-consumer sales of a wide variety of products—electronics, baby items, home goods, fashion apparel, and much more.

The event: Since eBay touches on a multitude of markets, it sends teams to many types of trade shows throughout the year. The booth pictured below was at the 2019 National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) , an annual event that brings together the music, sound, and entertainment technology communities to network and seek out innovative products from each of those markets.

eBay trade show booth

The booth: eBay’s main goal in attending NAMM was to let major music product brands know that eBay is a great place to sell their music products. Hence the guitar-themed, 20’ x 20’ booth. The eBay team wanted a comfortable, cool feel, so we made the booth very open, even keeping the hanging frame with ebay’s logo signage unwrapped to further open the space.

Guitars, amps, records, and other music memorabilia donned the area to encourage casual talks about music and even impromptu jam sessions. Also, it may be hard to see in the image, but those aren’t paintings in the back—they are real guitars in front of mirrors. These added a unique, artistic flair to the space.

The eBay team loved what we created and how we were able to mold the space based on the event, but still keep it connected to their brand. They also appreciated how easy it was to collaborate with the entire Hill & Partners team.

Trade Show Booth Ideas to Wow the Crowd

trade show booth

Want to create your venue or brand’s most creative and successful trade show booth of all time? The key is connecting your goals to the design. Although following best practices is always a good idea, a truly effective trade show booth idea needs to help you achieve your desired KPIs. Use this guide to explore trade show booth ideas and real examples that you can use to attract more qualified leads to your business.

Discover trade show booth ideas that stand out

1. have an emcee.

Alex Perkins, co-founder of All the Stuff , told Cvent via email that having an engaging emcee was a game changer for their last trade show booth. “Our host secured to grab the people's attention which is the first necessary factor for our booth to be recognized and be interactive,” wrote Perkins.

He also says that you don’t even need to spend more to secure a great host. “Having an emcee does not necessarily mean to hire a professional one, but a charismatic team member would be great too. In fact it would be even better since this will cut the briefing time for an emcee to learn about the company profile and the products and services it offers. A team member already possesses the knowledge and heart for the company which will make it easy to draw the crowd in an entertaining manner.”

In other words, your trade show booth is a great opportunity for the office jokester to work out some new materials as he entertains and networks with potential leads.

2. Bring a prop

Sometimes all it takes to make your trade show booth idea stand out is a single, eye-catching prop. For Sabrina Beaumont , a marketer and former trade show booth planner for a big construction equipment company, that prop was a $20,000 custom bobblehead.

Beaumont told Cvent via email that their massive booth decor item had been a hit at multiple trade shows. The bobblehead was designed to look like their CEO and it spoke when approached. “It would even repeat pre-recorded sentences that he often said.”

Not only was this visually appealing, but it was engaging too. “It was extremely good at drawing people in as they would love to come over and interact with this five-foot bobblehead, just to see what it would say when they bounced his head back and forth. If I had to guess, we had three to four times the interactions other booths had, and we would simply bring the bobblehead along to several trade shows, making it a great investment.”

Even if your budget or booth space is smaller, there are still plenty of unique, show-stopping props you can add to your display on the floor, table, or walls that will strike passerby curiosity.

3. Use vending machines

In an interview with Cvent, Director of Quality Assurance & Accounts for Optimal Station Pam Patterson said that smart vending machines are a big attraction at trade shows. “My company specializes in creating branded experiential marketing environments primarily focused on vending machines,” says Patterson.

Patterson goes on to say that they “build entire activations around engagements that trigger the dispensation of items--swag, samples, or even for-sale items--while gathering verified metrics, so our clients can measure their marketing ROI and also expanding their social media reach.”

They do this through a number of sophisticated tools. These include features such as social media walls, HD digital ad displays, artificial intelligence, promotional vending, and smart photo booths.

Patterson adds, “We stand out because we attract attendees both visually and by the word-of-mouth excitement that spreads throughout the event. Not only do we have a cool factor, but there is no one else on the trade show floor that does what we do.”

While vending machines like these are helpful for a number of different industries, this idea is especially effective for retro and indie brands looking to capitalize on a trade show booth theme.

4. Incorporate website design

Bryan Philips is the Head of Marketing at In Motion Marketing and has a tip for both virtual and in-person trade show booth designs: treat your booth like a website.

In a conversation with Cvent, Philips said the challenge is “these shows are like a microcosm of the market or even the internet and it's very difficult to get eyes on your booth because there are so many distractions.”

That’s why he prefers to think about website design when creating booths for his clients. Not only is it streamlined and neater, but it’s also focused on persuading visitors to take action.

Here’s how Phillips does it: “We use a digital marquee with a very tight value prop[osition] to direct customers to our booth. We also offer free merchandise for filling out a survey, which captures the customers' information. This has worked for us very well in the past, and we have seen a landslide of new customers because of these interactions.”

You can also tie in your website design elements, like fonts, color palettes, and graphics, into your booth design to cohesively bring your brand elements to life.

5. Add a mini kitchen

Feed people and get them to engage with your brand at the same time? We’re in.

“Food is always a crowd pleaser, perhaps more so at lengthy exhibits and trade shows,” said Richard Mews, the CEO of Sell With Richard , in a conversation with Cvent. “Thus, a mini kitchen is an excellent place to highlight items while still allowing attendees to get involved.”

Here’s what you should include: “This miniature kitchen features a television screen to highlight delectable creations, ensure that samples are visible to everyone, and include detail on recipe ingredients.”

And in Mews’ own words, here’s “why it works: this is a sensory-stimulating immersive environment. You may not have to offer cookware or produce to use either of these booths. You might recreate your company's chili cook-off or something else that symbolizes your company's community or commitment to wellness.”

Just remember that at the end of the day, this trade show booth idea is meant to “enable visitors to participate in the production process and taste the final product as an added bonus.” This can be symbolic of your brand, tie in a behind the scenes story event attendees can connect to, or simply show off your team’s hidden skills..

Real life examples of successful trade show booths

● Digital Airstrike’s Selfie Station

In an interview with Cvent, Jessie Whitfield (owner of MISGIF ), shared that his client, Digital Airstrike, has greatly benefited from adding one of MISGIF’s photo booths to their trade show activities.

“Digital Airstrike takes our Selfie Station with them every year to one of the biggest automobile conferences in the country,” says Whitfield. “They use it for the entirety of the trade show to collect consumer data as well as create branded user generated content. It's a fun activity and great marketing tool they also use for their celebrity meet and greets.”

● Exploding Kittens’ Vending Machine

Dubbed the “ most popular attraction at Comic-Con ” in 2019, this clever trade show booth idea was both fun and funky for everyone who saw or interacted with it. Not only was it uniquely designed to look like a slightly creepy cat from their card game that had come to life but it also had some tricks up its sleeve.

The vending machine dispensed the brand’s products. But the real draw was the $1 random item generator which gave out prizes such as watermelons, socks, and toilet plungers. And if you were bored of waiting in long lines, they also provided entertainment with puppet shows and music playing inside the vending machine itself.

Having seen it firsthand at the Long Beach Comic Con, the Cvent team can assure you that this wild trade show booth idea was incredibly memorable and effective.

Stay on top of the trends in 2023

● Scott Swenson’s Minimalist Haunted Attraction Booth

Cvent recently spoke with Scott Swenson, the Owner and Creative Director for Scott Swenson Creative Development LLC . He primarily works as a consultant, writer and producer for a variety of entertainment and educational shows and festivals. Swenson’s clients include theme parks, zoos, and other attractions which is why he participated in a haunted attraction industry trade show.

Swenson shared: “This show is filled with over-the-top displays of costumes, animated props and flashy special effects. Since I am selling my skills and not highly visual products, I opted to make my booth straight forward and uncluttered.”

His clever design used “rolling vertical banners with [his] logo and website”, because he has “always believed that when doing any kind of trade show, think vertically.”

“Remember,” Swenson advises, “there will be people standing in front of your booth and they will block nearly everything that is five feet [above the ground] or lower.”

Then, he “set up a projector and small folding screen which played a pre-produced looping video of previous projects and promotional quotes from former clients.” While that was playing, he sat perched at an elevated table so he could “chat with passing folks while looking them eye to eye and still remain seated”.

This is especially helpful for trade show environments because, as Swenson pointed out, “trade show days are LOOOOONG”.

For more intimate client conversations, Swenson added a low table and two chairs inside the booth that also housed his printed promotional materials.

Because of its simplicity, his booth stood out in the chaos of the show. “It was inviting, comfortable, and often had small crowds of like-minded people chatting about the industry. This low-key approach only booked one client directly at the show--which more than covered the cost of attending--but my presence at the show and the way I branded my booth and myself was mentioned by several other clients I booked in the months, and even years, following the show. It made an impact.”

His favorite feature? “I could fit everything into two suitcases and I could set it up by myself in about 50 minutes and take it down in less than 30.”

Swenson adds a final thought to those who find this approach a little unconventional: “I realize this is not the giant corporate display you may have been thinking of, but it is an example of how a small company can make a profitable impact at a trade show without risking large amounts of money.”

Our takeaway: see what your trade show booth competitors are bringing to the table from past events then do the opposite.

Put these trade show booth ideas into action!

Whether you’re looking to boost your in-person trade show marketing strategy or drive leads to your virtual trade show booth , remember that it’s all about using your own unique point of view and finding things your target event audience will love.

A trade show booth serves as a first impression of your brand, and a successful design gets people to stop to learn more. Searching for booth inspiration? Start the 2023 trade show season off on the right foot with these trade show booth ideas.

The essential components of a good trade show booth

Any good booth includes a few trade show staples to help capture attendees’ attention and keep them engaged, so they stop for information about your brand, product, or service.

Those must-haves include:

A good emcee

A booth without a dedicated and engaging emcee makes it difficult to pull attendees in and capture their interest. If you want to attract attention, put a charismatic and welcoming team member in charge of emceeing.

Interactive components

Once your emcee has pulled attention from the trade show floor to the booth, it becomes a game of engagement. We’ll get more specific in the list to follow, but interactive elements keep attendees at your booth for longer and leave a lasting impression.

Grab-and-go information

Attendees can’t stay at your booth forever, no matter how exciting it is. When it’s time for them to check out what other booths have to offer, send them off with some information to remember you by. Business cards, flyers, and pamphlets are all great ways to easily hand off brand information to booth visitors.

Product and service demos

If you’re exhibiting a product, it’s essential to run a demo so attendees can learn how it works and perhaps even try it out for themselves. Even if you’re offering a service, running a live or video demonstration of what the service does helps give context to your brand.

Good branding

Finally, every exceptional trade show booth has good branding. Without it, attendees will have nothing to recognize—or recall you by—after the event has ended. Signage with logos, brand color schemes, and visible brand names are all good places to start to increase brand awareness at your booth.

10 creative booth ideas to make a lasting impression

Once you have the essentials down, you can start building a creative, exciting, and awe-inspiring booth experience around them.

Leave a lasting impression with these creative trade show booth ideas.

Fun and interactive trade show booth ideas

When it comes to engaging with attendees, your booth needs something fun and interactive to attract and retain attention.

Here are a handful of intriguing booth ideas to try:

1. Spin to win a prize wheel

Attract attention to your trade show booth with a prize wheel. Attendees love free stuff, so giving them a chance to win something is exciting. When deciding on prizes to give away, make sure to include a variety of items—and some big-ticket rewards, too.

Here are some ideas for exciting prizes:

  • Branded swag, such as T-shirts, hats, and stickers
  • Gift cards for restaurants, retail shops, or Amazon
  • High-value electronics, such as headphones or portable chargers
  • Company products
  • Discounts on products

2. Interactive photo booth

Photo opportunities provide a fun, low-stakes way to get people congregating around your trade show booth. What makes a photo booth even better is when you include interactive elements, such as branded filters, to combine engagement with brand awareness.

Bonus points if you create a brand or event-specific hashtag and encourage people to post their silly photos on social media.

3. Free food

Everyone loves free food. Even if your brand has nothing to do with the culinary arts, offering a small snack or refreshment to busy trade show attendees is the perfect way to pull people in. While they enjoy their snack, introduce your brand, products, or services.

4. Virtual reality (VR) experience

Virtual reality has become fairly ubiquitous these days, but it’s still as exciting as ever. If you’re looking for something a little more lively than a prize wheel (or something to use in tandem with it), you can apply a VR experience for a variety of use cases.

If you’re announcing a product at the event but don’t have a prototype yet, you could offer visitors a 3D tour of the item with VR. Or, host a friendly VR competition for prizes and rewards.

5. Live music performance or hosted entertainment

You can’t go wrong with live music or entertainment at your booth. Solo singers or a live band will help pull a crowd to your booth and keep them there for a while.

Awe-inspiring design trade show booth ideas

According to exhibitors themselves, 48% say that an attention-grabbing design is the most effective way to lure attendees in. Considering that, let’s continue this list with trade show booth design ideas to make yours stand out from the crowd .

6. Vertical booth space

Exhibition halls are massive, and most of the time there’s a lot of wasted vertical space above your booth. That open air offers a lot of potential for design elements like:

  • Floating banner signage
  • Intriguing decorations
  • Dynamic lighting

Utilizing this space allows you to intrigue and attract attendees from across the venue. Plus, something bright and memorable acts as a marker for your booth—so interested guests can find their way back later.

7. Include seating

Event-goers who are on their feet all day visiting booths need somewhere to take a load off. Include seating at your booth to allow attendees to relax and recharge in the presence of your brand. This also provides a great opportunity for networking .

8. Use visual marketing

Visual marketing and brand storytelling bring coherence to your trade show booth design. Maintain consistency through signage, color schemes, text, and experiences. Avoid ambiguity, and use visual marketing to bring a distinct and clear-cut brand experience to visitors.

9. Offer a mobile device charging station

Event attendees are on their phones and mobile devices often while browsing trade shows—especially if they’re using a mobile event app to stay up to date with the agenda and network with other guests.

Incorporate a charging station into the design of your booth to give attendees the phone juice they need to stay current on event happenings. Bonus points if you integrate this idea with seating space, so active event-goers can recharge their phones and their feet at your booth.

10. Create a separation between your booth and the rest of the trade show

Designing your booth to offer a separate space from the bustle of the trade show floor can help create a more immersive experience for attendees. Partial walls and fabric structures help create a more closed-off and intimate experience between you and your visitors.

Things to avoid in your trade show exhibit

Like the fixed essentials we listed at the top of this blog, consider these three elements “must-do-nots.”

  • Making your exhibit too big: Booths that are too big can be overwhelming—and unless you have exciting things to fill it with, uninteresting, too. Avoid trying to do or present too much at once. An appropriately sized booth is easier to make engaging and delightful.
  • Relying solely on technology: Digital kiosks and information stands are great but rely too much on technology, and you risk removing your brand’s welcoming, human element.
  • Slandering your competitors: While it may be fun in the moment, smack-talking competitors is unattractive in the long run. Healthy competition at trade shows is to be expected, but don’t leave your visitors with a bad taste in their mouths by being mean and underselling your fellow exhibitors.

Does booth location have an effect on your exhibit?

The location of your booth will in some ways determine the amount of traffic and visibility it receives. For example, renting a booth slot close to washrooms or venue cafeterias may garner more attention due to the increased foot traffic.

But beyond its physical location, where you decide to position yourself among other exhibitors also matters.

Types of trade show booth setups and location

Generally speaking, there are four distinct types of trade show booth setups and locations. Depending on which experiences and design ideas you plan to implement into your booth, you should consider your options:

Inline booth: This booth type is long, narrow, and flanked by corner booths. Inline booths are only accessible from one side—ideal for smaller, more intimate exhibits.

Corner booth: Usually small and square, corner booths cap off a row of inline booths at either side and are accessible from two ends—on the vertical and horizontal aisles. Corner booths are great if your goal is to attract as much attention as possible.

Peninsula booth: Situated at the end of an aisle, this booth type is long, narrow, and accessible from three sides. They’re ideal for larger displays.

Island booth: Standing all alone, an island booth is accessible by attendees on all four sides. Island booths are great for more elaborate designs.

Bringing your trade show booth ideas together

A successful trade show booth design is a combination of essential components such as a good emcee, interactive elements, grab-and-go information, product/service demos, and good branding, as well as creative and awe-inspiring ideas.

15 Ideas to Attract Visitors to Your Trade Show Booth

Ideas to Attract Visitors to Your Trade Show Booth

Attracting visitors to your trade show booth is critical but extremely challenging. With hundreds of competitors all fighting for attention, you only have seconds to capture an attendee's interest. So, how do you design a trade show booth that breaks through the clutter?

This article reveals 15 creative strategies to draw visitors into your exhibit space and deliver an immersive, memorable experience. From high-tech displays to interactive experiences , you’ll discover innovative concepts to make your booth a can’t-miss destination.

So, let's get started.

15 Proven Ways to Attract Visitors to Your Trade Show Booth

Innovative exhibit design creates memorable experiences that drive trade show success. Let’s explore 15 creative, proven ideas to turn your trade show booth into a high-traffic destination:

1. Holographic Displays

Holographic displays at trade shows are eye-catching exhibits that showcase 3D projections of objects and imagery that appear to float in mid-air inside the display.

These displays capture attention with a futuristic 3D floating image that looks magical to attendees passing by. Holographic projectors can display features of your offerings rotating or being used in real-world scenarios to provide a better understanding of their utility.

For example, a holographic projector could display a 3D interface of a software company's latest cloud-based analytics platform. While rotating, it can showcase the software’s dashboards and features. Attendees could use hand gestures to interact with the holographic dashboards, creating an immersive and memorable experience.

However, to successfully use this trade show exhibit idea, ensure the holographic presentation aligns with your offering’s core value. Place it near the front of the booth so it's visible from afar. Also, don’t forget to prepare backup equipment and files in case of technical difficulties.

2. Drone Light Shows

Drone light shows at trade show booths involve choreographing a fleet of LED-equipped drones to put on aerial lighting performances and displays above exhibitor spaces.

A drone light show will create visual excitement and draw crowds to your trade show exhibit. We recommend strategically scheduling aerial shows every 1-2 hours so attendees can plan their visit easily.

Work with experienced drone operators to program and choreograph a fleet of 10-30 drones with LED lights to fly in synchronized formations above your booth space. You can display your company name, animate your logo morphing into products or services, create dynamic floating images of key technologies or services, and more. The drones can even move in time with music or voiceover.

Technical preparation is key to effectively leveraging this trade show idea to attract visitors. Ensure that you obtain permits, test fly space dimensions, and program the detailed choreography to flawlessly execute the shows.

3. In-Booth Escape Room

In-booth escape rooms bring your booth to life and engage attendees with an exciting competitive experience. Here’s how you can use this idea effectively: Build a small themed room within your booth space and fill it with clues and puzzles for attendees to solve. For example, you could create a room with a storyline related to your industry or your services.

Next, have staff stationed outside the room to recruit players and explain the immersive concept - they must "escape" the room by solving all the puzzles within a set time limit. Throughout the experience, incorporate puzzles related to your capabilities so players get a first-hand sense of what your company offers.

Offer prizes to the players that escape the fastest to add to the excitement. The in-booth escape room differentiates your brand and gives attendees a hands-on experience they'll talk about long after the show.

4. 360-Degree Aroma Experience

Strategically placing aroma diffusion technology and releasing signature scents around key areas of your booth transports attendees into an immersive sensory experience. As visitors walk through, they will be surrounded by an ambient scent experience triggering emotional responses and memories.

It’s essential to align aromatic profiles with your branding, products, or services for effective marketing of your brand. For example, a natural aromatherapy company could diffuse essential oil blends, or a hospitality brand could release signature dining scents.

However, make sure to contain and control diffusion so smells do not overlap with neighboring booths. We recommend using scent machines with precise directional outputs to keep aromatic intensities subtle and diffusing for limited time frames.

5. AI-Powered Virtual Shopping Assistant

One of the best ideas to attract attendees to your exhibit is to implement virtual shopping assistants. You can display an interactive 3D hologram of your AI assistant, which can converse using natural language and gesture recognition.

Enable it to provide detailed information about your service/product, make recommendations based on visitor needs, and visually display service benefits with holographic AR. When the AI cannot sufficiently answer a question, have it seamlessly connect visitors to a live rep on standby.

You can also program the AI to pull visitor data and analyze behavior to help you create personalized interactions. By driving engaging interactions, the AI virtual assistant makes your booth tech-forward, captures visitor data, and scales personal engagement. This innovative differentiation excites attendees about doing business with your brand in the future.

6. High Tech Climate Stations

High tech climate stations at trade shows are interactive exhibit areas that mimic environmental spaces with configurable temperature, humidity, wind and other weather conditions.

I nteractive climate stations allow you to create an immersive, hands-on experience to showcase your technology and services. You can build stations that simulate real-world environments your offerings are used in.

For example, an IT infrastructure management company could simulate a server room environment. Allow attendees to adjust temperature and humidity settings to create a climate-induced system failure.

Showcase your monitoring and analytics services by pointing out the issue and demonstrating how automatic adjustments can restore optimum server operations.

Remember to create interactive demos that highlight your core value proposition. Schedule compelling presentations or even mini-workshops that educate attendees on key benefits of your services. The idea is to enable visitors to interact with and test offerings within real-world climate conditions.

7. Projection Mapping

Projection mapping creates an immersive experience by transforming your trade show exhibit into an interactive digital display. It involves using advanced projectors to overlay stunning 3D graphics, animations, video, and lighting effects onto the surfaces and layout of your booth in dynamic ways.

For example, a healthcare company can project animated graphics onto equipment like MRI machines to showcase internal components. Or they could project an informative video onto a wall that shows how their medical devices are transforming patient care.

To make your booth more engaging, allow visitors to interact with the projections using motion sensors or gestures. You can also add speakers for a multimedia sensory experience.

The larger-than-life multimedia experience facilitated by projection mapping grabs attention on the crowded trade show floor. It creates an exciting, memorable way to showcase your brand that keeps booth traffic flowing.

8. Engaging Fluid Simulations

Fluid simulation exhibits use digital technology to showcase mesmerizing visual representations of fluids in action. They model liquids, gases, and other substances reacting realistically in customized scenarios.

You can create fluid simulation stations that attract visitors to your booth by using technologies like augmented screens, projected visualizations, or holograms to showcase dynamic fluid movements.

For example, you can simulate the aerodynamics of air flowing over a vehicle, the water dynamics around a turbine, or even a product mixing into liquid. Allow visitors to manipulate variables and see the simulated fluid react in real-time. This hands-on experience is both educational and mesmerizing.

This trade show booth idea spotlights your engineering capabilities in an approachable way while facilitating meaningful connections with potential customers.

9. Interactive Graffiti Wall

One of the easiest ideas to attract visitors to your exhibit booth is to set up an interactive graffiti wall inside the booth space.

Mount a large digital screen or whiteboard wall where visitors can draw and write using touch controls or supplied markers. Integrate interactive elements like choosing color palettes, selecting spray can nozzle shapes, or “shaking” virtual cans. Capture each sketch to display as a slideshow.

With the interactive wall, exhibitors get creative exposure while visitors express themselves in a memorably branded experience. The hands-on, creative experience enhances brand connections, contributes to social shares , and maximizes booth interest.

10. Augmented Reality Treasure Hunt

An augmented reality treasure hunt can turn your trade show exhibit into an exciting, futuristic destination for visitors. Provide attendees with a smartphone app or AR glasses to go on a hunt around your booth space and exhibit hall.

Hide virtual clues and treasures that participants can only see through their devices as they explore. The AR elements could include holograms of your product/service features, interactive maps, informational pop-ups, and collecting bonus rewards.

To drive engagement, offer prizes for those who complete the hunt fastest with the highest point totals. This gamified experience incentivizes visitors to fully explore your booth and exhibit space in an educational, memorable way.

11. Responsive Foliage

One creative way to attract visitors is to incorporate responsive plants and greenery, which create an inviting, refreshing booth environment. Use plants and flowers that react to stimuli like sound, light, and movement to delight visitors.

For example, sensory-integrated animatronic flora could turn its leaves or petals toward booth visitors when they approach. Or you could install plant walls that illuminate or change color patterns based on noise levels.

To make the most of this trade show exhibit idea, strategically place responsive vegetation near seating areas for a soothing ambiance. Also, ensure proper lighting is available to showcase the foliage reactions effectively.

12. Cooling Mist Stations

Cooling mist stations provide refreshing relief while promoting your brand. Set up a section of your exhibit with mist fans, nozzles, or nebulizers that release fine water vapor into the air. The gentle mist creates a cooling oasis inside the bustling event venue.

We recommend strategically placing seats near the mist stations so attendees can sit, relax, and enjoy the atmosphere. You can have your brand name or logo prominently displayed near the activation zone. Schedule roaming brand ambassadors to engage with visitors in the cooling area.

To enhance the experience, add soothing audio like soft music or sounds of flowing water. Just ensure the systems are designed not to get trade show floors wet or slippery.

13. Real-Time Product/Service Challenges

Real-time product or service challenges can powerfully engage visitors while showcasing capabilities. Set up an area where attendees can attempt hands-on trials of your offerings and compare performance against themselves or others.

For example, a Business Intelligence firm can give attendees a sample business scenario and ask them to create data visualizations. They must showcase trends and tell the story effectively through graphs using your BI service’s customizable template. You can have leaderboards and give prizes to top performers.

However, you must carefully design the challenges to align with your offering's purpose and highlight competitive differentiators. Make sure the challenges are interactive and they allow attendees to test and experience your offerings in a timed setting.

14. Rooftop Lounge

A rooftop booth lounge creates an exclusive space for hosting and networking. Build an elevated, open-air lounge area accessible by a staircase or ramp. Decorate it with seating, greenery, sunshades, or umbrellas.

The lounge provides a comfortable setting for VIP meetings, hospitality gatherings, and small demos with a view.

When designed properly, a rooftop lounge becomes a highlight of your exhibit. It provides a unique vantage point over the show floor for valuable facetime with decision-makers. And it turns your brand into a destination for memorable relationship-building.

Ensure any required permits or insurance requirements are secured for the unconventional booth layout.

15. Roaming Interactive Mascot

Using a roaming mascot is one of the easiest ways to attract attendees to a trade show booth. Design an energetic character that interacts with visitors in line with your messaging. It could be a tech-savvy robot, cartoonish spokesperson, or furry animal.

Equip the mascot with capabilities like handing out branded giveaways, posing for photos, playing games, and distributing product/service info.

To maximize its impact, schedule the mascot's movement around the booth and exhibit hall strategically. Set up signing opportunities where visitors can meet the character up close.

An interactive mascot infuses your brand with an approachable personality. It roams as a mobile billboard while charming visitors, which is especially helpful for attracting families.

9. Add some aromatherapy.

This trend helps marketers capitalize on more human senses beyond just seeing and hearing. Choose scents that align with your goals. For example, if you want attendees to see your brand or product as one that makes their lives easier, go with a calming vanilla or lavender fragrance. If you’re looking to invoke something more action oriented, try energizing citrus or mint.

10. Include a branded step and repeat.

You could even throw in a professional photographer too. If you really want to get noticed on the expo floor , collaborate with the main event organizer to emphasize event hashtags or get their help setting up and running it.

11. Host a kickback space.

The space inside your booth matters. Use dynamic seating that allows attendees to sit facing one another and talk in groups or provides a little bit of privacy amidst the chaos. Also, be clever with your layouts – circular seating or train station rows provide lots of options and space. Some other general rules for making this a success include not letting salespeople hover in this area and providing more than one table so it doesn’t feel awkward to join the group.

12. Provide toys to play with.

Interactive touch screen games, DIY 3D printers, and VR headsets? Yes please! Advanced technology should keep visitors entertained and create memories for them that last beyond the event itself. Just make sure to choose content that matches your exhibition booth theme. And always end each interaction with a simple CTA.

13. When laying out materials or products on tables, avoid straight lines.

Straight lines look very polished and purposeful so guests won’t want to mess up your table by picking up or interacting with anything. Make everything more accessible by building small piles of pamphlets or fanning out your goodie folders to make everything look more interesting.

14. Host your own featured speaker, special guest, or educational lecture.

Who said you can’t have your own exciting event within the event at your exhibition booth? Most venues are fine with allowing you to add a program of your own to tradeshow . So bring in an industry influencer who isn’t already speaking or grab a special guest when they’re in between panels to do a signing of their new book at your booth. Just make sure to submit your mini event to the main exhibition listing or magazine so people actually know what you plan to do.

15. Add experiential marketing to your trade show event plan.

If you want to bring this element into your exhibition booth , aim to provide 2-3 immersive, tactile experiences any passerby can participate in. For example, you can have them create something within your software or program using demo mode on a tablet. Or you can have guests go through a mini tunnel filled with interactive screens.

16. Use the airspace above your booth.

Sometimes you need to think outside the box. Or in this case, the booth. One of the best trade show booth ideas for winning the hearts (or at the very least, the attention) of attendees is with a floating sign, prop, or inflatable character. Not only will it help guests find you, it will also stand out as a location marker for everyone else at the event.

Now, you’ll attract high ROI prospects to your exhibition booth in no time!

Visuals are a key part of generating engagement. Not only do visual learners make up 65% of the population , visual content is 40x more likely to be shared over other content .

Make your booth visually striking with:

  • Backlit displays
  • Living walls
  • Eye-catching graphics
  • Engaging video
  • Unique physical structures and shapes

Include a hashtag and incorporate it with a social media photo contest so when visitors are drawn to take a photo of your booth, you can encourage them to post their photo with your hashtag to be drawn for a prize. This is also an effective way to promote your organization and booth during the duration of the trade show.

3D projection mapping is an effective way to create an interactive journey that is both memorable and immersive, while enhancing your marketing message and brand. Here are some tips for using 3D projection mapping in your trade show booth:

travel trade show booth ideas

Incorporating music in your trade show booth increases memorability of your organization while reinforcing your message. This is because music releases dopamine, which makes people feel happy, comfortable, and provides a sense of well-being, which sets the tone for your trade show booth. Here are some tips for using music or live entertainment in your booth:

  • Make sure the music is aligned with your booth and organization’s message
  • Avoid music that is too gentle or generic and can bore your visitors or make them feel less engaged
  • Make sure volume is at a level that’s audible but not overwhelming

Common Mistakes to Avoid with Trade Show Booths

A great idea is worth a lot in the realm of trade shows, but it’s also important to avoid these common mistakes:

Not having tech you need Ask your venue what you have access to and whether they are able to provide tech you need for your booth. Make sure you have extra chargers and extra devices and cords as needed or know of places nearby in case you need to go out and purchase or replace items.

Too crowded/not enough open space If your booth is too crowded, people can’t navigate it, it will feel overwhelming, and people will leave without experiencing your content or engaging meaningfully with your booth and organization. Open up space in your trade show booth with these tactics:

  • Include a dedicated space and meeting area for talking to interested prospective members or sponsors/donors
  • Be selective about the staff you include
  • Make use of all three walls of your booth

Not having a clear brand message or story Understand your booth’s objective, as well as your organization’s goals for attending the trade show. Incorporating this knowledge with your organization’s purpose and mission statement all factors into the message and story of your booth. Don’t have too many ideas at once. If your booth is too interactive, it can result in a confusing and overwhelming experience for visitors. Keep your booth concept cohesive with compelling storytelling.

However, incorporating games into your trade show booth can be a game-changer, offering a multitude of benefits that can significantly enhance your brand's presence and impact.

Engagement and Interaction

Games are a universal language of fun and engagement. They attract attendees, encouraging them to interact with your booth, which can significantly increase dwell time. This interaction provides an opportunity to engage the audience in a conversation about your brand, products, or services.

Breaking the Ice

Trade shows can often be formal and business-like, which can create barriers between exhibitors and attendees. Games serve as a fantastic ice breaker, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere that can facilitate more open and meaningful conversations.

Memorable Experiences

In a sea of similar-looking booths, those that offer a unique and fun experience stand out. Games can provide a memorable experience that attendees are likely to remember long after the event, associating these positive memories with your brand.

Promoting Your Brand

Games can be tailored to incorporate your brand elements, such as logos, colors, and even products. This not only makes your booth visually appealing but also reinforces your brand identity in a fun and interactive way.

Lead Generation

Games provide an excellent opportunity for lead generation. You can require participants to provide their contact information to participate, or offer a chance to win a prize in exchange for their business card. This can help you build a valuable database of potential clients or customers.

Encouraging Social Sharing

In today's digital age, social media plays a crucial role in marketing. Games can encourage attendees to share their experiences on their social media platforms, providing your brand with additional exposure and potentially attracting more visitors to your booth.

In conclusion, incorporating games into your trade show booth is a strategic move that can significantly boost your brand's visibility, engagement, and lead generation efforts. It's not just about making your booth more fun; it's about creating a memorable and interactive experience that resonates with your audience and leaves a lasting impression of your brand.

Sometimes, the simplest games can be the most engaging. A giant Jenga set can draw in attendees, create a fun, relaxed atmosphere, and provide an opportunity for staff to interact with potential customers in a low-pressure setting.

By incorporating these games into your trade show booth, you can create a memorable experience that sets your brand apart.

5 Trade Show Booth Games for Promoting Your Products

Promoting your products at a trade show doesn't have to be a monotonous task. By incorporating engaging and interactive games into your booth, you can attract more visitors, generate interest in your products, and create memorable experiences that will keep your brand at the forefront of their minds. Here are five innovative trade show booth games that you can use to promote your products effectively.

1. Product Trivia

Product trivia is an excellent way to educate attendees about your products while keeping them engaged. Create a trivia game that includes questions about your products' features, benefits, and unique selling points. You can present this game in a variety of formats, such as a digital quiz on a touchscreen display or a traditional board game. Reward participants with small prizes or promotional items to encourage participation.

2. Virtual Reality Demonstrations

Virtual reality (VR) technology can take your product demonstrations to a whole new level. With VR, you can provide an immersive experience that allows attendees to interact with your products in a virtual environment. This is particularly useful for products that are too large or complex to bring to the trade show. Plus, the novelty of VR technology is sure to attract a crowd to your booth.

3. Product Scavenger Hunt

A product scavenger hunt can be a fun and interactive way to showcase your product range. Hide images or miniatures of your products around your booth and provide attendees with clues to find them. This game not only encourages attendees to explore your booth in depth but also exposes them to various products they might not have noticed otherwise.

4. Product Puzzle Challenge

Create a puzzle that features your products and challenges attendees to solve it. This could be a jigsaw puzzle with an image of your product, a crossword puzzle with clues related to your product, or a Rubik's cube-style puzzle that forms an image of your product when solved. This game can stimulate attendees' problem-solving skills while keeping your products in their focus.

5. Augmented Reality Product Exploration

Augmented reality (AR) is another cutting-edge technology that can enhance your product promotion efforts. With AR, you can overlay digital information onto the real world, allowing attendees to explore your products in detail. For example, they could point their smartphone at a product display and see overlaid information about its features, uses, and benefits.

Incorporating games into your trade show booth can make product promotion an enjoyable and engaging experience for attendees. By choosing games that align with your brand and products, you can create a unique and memorable booth that stands out from the competition and leaves a lasting impression on attendees.

6 Trade Show Booth Games for Networking and Lead Generation

In the bustling environment of a trade show, fostering meaningful connections can be challenging. However, by incorporating engaging and innovative games into your booth, you can turn this challenge into an opportunity. Here are six trade show booth games that not only entertain but also aid in networking and lead generation.

1. Business Card Raffle

A classic yet effective game, the business card raffle, is a simple way to gather contact information from potential leads. Attendees drop their business cards into a bowl, and at the end of the day, a winner is drawn for a prize. This game not only encourages interaction but also provides you with a pool of potential contacts for future follow-ups.

2. Digital Scavenger Hunt

A digital scavenger hunt encourages attendees to engage with your brand on a deeper level. Using a platform like Scavify, you can create a customized scavenger hunt that requires participants to interact with different elements of your booth or answer questions about your products or services. A social media contest is a great way to expand your reach beyond the trade show. Encourage attendees to post about your brand on their social media accounts with a unique hashtag. You can then select a winner from those who posted. This game not only promotes networking but also increases your online visibility.

5. Interactive Quiz

An interactive quiz can be an effective way to educate attendees about your brand while also promoting engagement. Use a digital platform to create a quiz related to your industry or products. Utilize technology to your advantage by creating a digital trivia game. Questions can be related to your industry, your brand, or your products. This game can be played individually or in teams, encouraging networking while subtly educating participants about your brand.

4. Branded Spin-the-Wheel

A classic game with a twist. Participants spin a wheel to win prizes, discounts, or freebies. The catch? Each segment of the wheel features fun facts or trivia about your brand, turning a simple game into an educational experience.

5. Augmented Reality Scavenger Hunt

An augmented reality (AR) scavenger hunt can turn your booth into an exciting adventure. Participants use their smartphones to find hidden AR objects around your booth, each revealing unique information about your brand or products.

6. Social Media Photo Contest

Invite participants to take creative photos at your booth and share them on social media with a unique hashtag. This game not only increases engagement at the booth but also extends your brand reach to the online community.

7. Interactive Product Demonstrations

Turn your product demonstrations into a game. Whether it's a fastest assembler contest or a design challenge using your products, interactive demonstrations make your products memorable and fun to use.

In conclusion, the key to successful trade show booth games is creativity and brand integration. By offering an engaging and memorable experience, you can ensure your brand stands out in the crowded trade show environment.

They tap into our innate love for competition, challenge, and achievement, creating memorable experiences that can leave a lasting impression of your brand.

Trade show booth games are also a powerful tool for building relationships. They provide a relaxed and friendly environment where you can interact with potential customers, partners, and even competitors on a more personal level. This can help to foster trust and rapport, which are key ingredients for any successful business relationship. Whether it's through a high-tech VR game or a simple trivia challenge, these interactions can provide valuable opportunities to understand your audience better, gather feedback, and even generate leads for future business opportunities.

Boosting Brand Exposure

Why Exhibit at a Trade Show?

30 trade show ideas, key takeaways: rock your next trade show, 30 trade show ideas for attracting visitors.

Avatar

Have you considered exhibiting at a trade show? This list of 30 trade show ideas from brands like GE, Amazon, and more will help your company successfully attract visitors.

Trade shows have been around for quite a long while and just about every industry has at least one worth attending. And while this event type can be both fun and beneficial for attendees, it can be complete game-changers for exhibitors. The following list of 30 trade show ideas will allow your booth or kiosk to attract more foot traffic, grow brand awareness, and increase event ROI . Sound good? Then let’s get started!

What’s a Trade Show?

A trade show is an event that brings people in a specific industry together to discuss, demonstrate, and display the latest available products their company has to offer. These events are often hosted in large spaces such as convention centers and take place over numerous days — though small, one-day trade shows also exist.

Attendees of trade shows, also known as trade fairs and expos, vary depending on the rules of the trade show in question. For example, some trade shows, like the Consumer Electronics Show, say they only allow professionals in the electronics industry to attend. Others, such as South by Southwest (SXSW), are free to anyone and everyone.

Exhibiting at a trade show can have major positive benefits for your company. One of the more unique event types , trade shows will allow you to showcase new products and demonstrate them in-person to your target market. This often leads to many high-quality leads and new customers.

Exhibiting at a trade show will also give you a chance to evaluate your competition. What have they been working on? How do they interact with their customers? Is there anything you can learn from them? There are a lot of benefits to keeping an eye on the competition and there’s no better place to do it than at a trade show.

Lastly, exhibiting at a trade show will help you and your team network with major players in your industry. From new vendors and distributors to top talent looking to change companies, you’ll be able to meet fresh faces and present your brand as professional and worthy of working with.

Now that we know what trade shows are and why exhibiting at them is worthwhile, let’s discuss how to make your booth stand out from the hundreds (or even thousands) of other companies attending the event as well. We have 30 ideas to help you win the trade show game!

1. Use a Pop-Up Tent

Vodafone - Tradeshow Ideas

The pop-up tent is a classic in the trade show world because it works really well. It can help a company attract foot traffic and it’s easy to travel with and set up. Pop-up tents offer a more intimate environment than the typical open-air style kiosk.

In the above example, Vodafone (the British multinational telecommunications conglomerate) uses a pop-up tent to help entice visitors into their world. If it fits with your brand, consider renting a pop-up tent for your next trade show as well.

2. Create a Relaxing Atmosphere

  View this post on Instagram   #Eventspace for Dyson to showcase their products. #activation #3Drender #archviz #interiordesign #tradeshow #3drendering #3d #previz #previsualization #experiencedesign #tradeshowboothdesign A post shared by Pixel Wave (@pixelwavedesigns) on Sep 25, 2017 at 11:10pm PDT

Attending trade shows is a lot of fun. It can also be hot, sweaty, and exhausting. To stand out, consider making your trade show booth have a more “homey” feel that invites attendees to come in and relax. The above example from Dyson not only looks comfortable to those passing by but it also gives attendees a better sense of how the company’s products work (and look) inside the home. It’s a perfect mix of marketing and sales!

3. Teach Something

GE - Tradeshow Ideas

Many people attend trade shows in order to learn about new products in their industry and the companies making them. Or about the latest discoveries and developments in their specific fields. Why not lean into this fact and offer attendees a truly educational experience when they visit your booth?

That’s what GE has done. The space shown above is very interactive and informative, teaching folks about the products they offer and the values the brand is built upon. If you go the education route with your trade show kiosk, just make sure the learning experience is engaging.

The @Google Assistant Gumball Machine is cracking jokes and giving out prizes. #AI #HeyGoogle #cesIEEE #CES2018 #IEEE #CES #tech #technology #engineer #engineering https://www.instagram.com/p/BdyhUQgn-X4/ pic.twitter.com/vjNRnOgYi7 — IEEE (@IEEEorg) January 11, 2018

Google is known as a highly creative and fun company. So it’s no surprise that their trade show booth at CES 2018 had a few imaginative features. Specifically, we’re talking about the giant gumball machine display.

While something like this may be out of budget for most companies, the principle behind it still applies. Think about ways you can go bigger with your trade show booth. Giant pictures, huge stuffed animals, enormous TV screens? Big things are eye-catching and inspire the inner-photographer in all of us.

5. Get Your Branding Right

Applegate - Tradeshow Ideas

When planning your trade show strategy, it’s important to get your event branding just right. Keep that in mind as you read through this list. While some ideas may work for other companies, not all of them will work for yours.

Applegate, an organic meat company, does a great job of preserving its brand when attending trade shows. From the wood paneling to the statue of a cow, the entire booth feels like Applegate. Make sure your booth accurately reflects your company’s brand as well.

6. Make it Interactive

Alienware Dell - Tradeshow Ideas

Alienware is a computer hardware subsidiary of Dell focused on the gaming community. While their booth pictured above may look simple, it does a fantastic job of encouraging engagement. Folks are asked to take pictures and post them to social media using one of Alienware’s favorite hashtags. In return, participants get featured in the Alienware booth.

This is a really simple, yet effective idea that you can also use at your trade show kiosk to increase interaction and brand recognition.

7. Give Attendees an Exciting Experience

Source: YouTube

Mazda has a reputation for building cars that are a ton of fun to drive. So the company decided to use this fact to their advantage and created an exciting booth feature for NAIAS 2017 attendees — a virtual driving experience that allowed folks to “test drive” Mazda cars.

How can you allow attendees to test out your company’s products at your next trade show? It’s a great way to increase quality leads. After all, people are much more inclined to buy when they’ve had the chance to try a product before spending money.

8. Blow Attendee Minds

Dell - Tradeshow Ideas

If you have the budget, sometimes the best thing you can do is go all out and blow the minds of every attendee that walks by your display. Look how big, sleek, and eye-catching the above example is from Dell. For those who work in corporate event management , consider investing in stellar booth design for your next trade show. The increase in foot traffic, qualified leads, and brand recognition will be worth it.

9. Be Eye-Catching

Twitch - Tradeshow Ideas

Speaking of eye-catching, the above image from Twitch (a live video streaming platform owned by Amazon) is a great example of stunning visuals that won’t necessarily break the bank. They use bright colors and make excellent use of lighting. Do your best to add eye-catching elements to your trade show kiosk design as well.

10. Partner With a Pro

Polaroid - Tradeshow Ideas

No design skills? No problem! There are companies out there that will design a stunning, branded trade show booth for you. Skyline imagined and built the above display for Polaroid. Notice how the booth is both sleek and stylish, yet inviting and practical. These are features that might be hard for your company to replicate without professional help.

If the design isn’t coming together for your trade show kiosk, know that there are folks ready and willing to assist — for the right price of course.

11. Rent More Space

Samsung - Tradeshow Ideas

Another way to stand out from the crowd of other companies exhibiting at a trade show is to simply rent more space. Secure a bigger area to display your products, offer more interactive features, and invite in a greater number of attendees. That’s what Samsung did at CES 2018 (pictured above). Just remember, if you use this event strategy , you must fill your extra space with enticing elements. Space for the sake of it won’t benefit your company.

12. Go Virtual

Intel - Tradeshow Ideas

Virtual reality has been taking the world by storm over the last few years. Jump on the bandwagon and add a VR element to your event kiosk like Intel has done. It’s a great way to increase foot traffic and engage attendees. Plus, consumers are 53% more likely to buy from a brand that makes good use of VR. Worried about the cost? Don’t be. Google Cardboard can be obtained for as little as $10.

13. Get the Swag Right

Tradeshow-Ideas-CallidusCloud-min

Swag (short for “stuff we all get”) is used in just about every industry. Your accountant gives you free pens, your dentist offers a free toothbrush, and local bands playing at the bar by your house hand out free CDs. Why not use this same principle in your B2B event marketing strategy?

Swag works for a few reasons. First, we all love to get free stuff. Second, when a business offers branded swag, they increase brand recognition. Third, the give attendees the opportunity to connect with your brand and eventually like, trust, and begin to build a relationship. So add a fun version of your company’s logo on a few t-shirts, bags, or ball caps to attract attendees to your next trade show booth. Add a chance to win a luxury car (Like CallidusCloud did at Dreamforce 2016) and help spark a conversation in person.

14. Hold a Contest

Fed up of cold calling? Let us help you warm them up! #CloudFest pic.twitter.com/BytuYhTQMA — NewVoiceMedia (@NewVoiceMedia) September 20, 2017

Contests are an extremely easy way to increase attendee engagement at trade shows. The trick is to do something creative and offer a great prize to winners. At Dreamforce 2017, New Voice Media asked attendees to guess how long it would take for a block of ice surrounding an iPhone to melt. Those who guessed right received a brand new phone for their efforts.

But even the participants who didn’t win had fun. And New Voice Media won too because their contest boosted traffic to their booth and helped them secure leads.

15. Let Attendees Test Your Products

Sleep Number - Tradeshow Ideas

Remember, one of the main reasons people attend trade shows is to see and test new products. So make sure that your booth prominently displays your company’s offerings and allows event-goers to get hands-on with them.

Sleep Number brought in multiple mattresses to CES 2018 and allowed attendees to lay on them right there in the middle of the expo floor. Let folks experience your products first-hand and they’ll be much more inclined to purchase them.

16. Book Live Music

Deloitte - Tradeshow Ideas

Music is one of the most powerful, moving forces on earth. Use this to your advantage and book a band or DJ to perform at your trade show booth during the expo. The right artists will help keep the energy flowing and people smiling. At Dreamforce 2017, Deloitte Digital hired a DJ to play ambient music for guests.

17. Tap Into Current Trends

What’s popular right now? Can you add it to your trade fair kiosk? These are important questions to ask! For example, James Cordon’s Carpool Karaoke segment is wildly popular. So Cadillac took this idea and ran with it for NAISA 2018. Basically, attendees stood in front of a green screen and sang their favorite songs while being filmed. The result showed them inside a simulated Cadillac car in their very own Carpool Karaoke video. What trend can you play off of?

18. Offer Something Fun

  View this post on Instagram   #tb unique b2b environment to connect with people, cocktails & exercise = experience * * * #cycle4drink #cocktailcompetition #tradeshowdesign #exhibitiondesign #exhibitionexperience #cocktailmakers #brandexperience #b2b #connect #resonate #brandexperience #designagency #brandexperiencedesign #brandexperienceagency #agencylife #MovingMinds A post shared by INCEPTION (@inceptionworldwide) on Aug 21, 2017 at 11:39am PDT

Remember what we said earlier about fun? Trade show attendees want it! So try to think of something unique and entertaining for them to do at your booth. The above smoothie bike example is a great idea. Folks pedal and blend their own fruit beverage. It’s fun, different, and memorable.

19. Create a “Taste” Experience

Jimmy Dean - Tradeshow Ideas

The grocery store industry has been on to this secret for a long time: people love free food. If your trade fair allows it, offer some to attendees. This is an especially great event marketing strategy for businesses in the food industry. But any company can take advantage.

In the example above, Hillshire Farm and Jimmy Dean operated a booth together and offered folks free samples, held a sandwich-making competition, and featured professional chef demonstrations.

20. Give Attendees Something Unique

Lionsgate - Tradeshow Ideas

Trade shows are full of innovative companies and exciting new products. How can your brand separate itself from the crowd and grab attention? By offering a unique experience.

When Lionsgate wanted to promote their new movie, Buried (a film about a man stuck in a box underground) they dreamt up a way that attendees could experience the story in real life. At ComicCon, folks were able to walk into a black box while freaky sound effects played. Their reactions were then filmed for everyone’s enjoyment.

21. Inspire Awe

Splashtacular Entertainment - Tradeshow Ideas

How can you make your trade fair booth unforgettable? The answer for Splashtacular Entertainment was the cylindrical display shown above. As event attendees walked through, creative lighting gave the illusion that they were underwater. Inspire awe and your trade show display will be a success.

22. Provide a Quiet Space for Attendees

Adobe - Tradeshow Ideas

After three or four days on the expo floor, event attendees will be tired. Keep this in mind and consider building a quiet space for attendees. Make sure it’s shielded from the hustle and bustle of the expo, where they can really relax. The space above, designed for Adobe, has a wonderful lounge area for tired guests.

23. Don’t Forget to Look Up

Salesforce - Tradeshow Ideas

When imagining expo booth designs, most of us tend to think about the things right in front of us. But there’s a huge opportunity above our heads. Displays that hang can be seen from far away and will catch the attention of foot traffic on the expo floor. Rise above your competition, literally, and create a hanging display like Salesforce has done in the above example.

24. Put Attendees at the Center of the Action

Ford - Tradeshow Ideas

In the NAIAS booth shown above, Ford created a one of a kind experience. Attendees were able to get behind the wheel while a camera filmed them. Tech experts then created a fantastic experiential marketing activity by making movie posters and trailers featuring each of the event guests who stopped by. How cool is that?

While this idea takes serious capital — it cost Ford almost $250 per person to execute — do your best to put attendees at the center of the action at your booth and engage them.

25. Bring the Outdoors In

Tradeshow Ideas - Slack Where Work Happens Booth

Slack knows about good design. Their Dreamforce 2016 booth featured living plants and solid wood fixtures — a welcome, peaceful aesthetic amongst the busy expo floor. Plants, in general, are a great idea for trade show kiosks. They have a calming presence and guests enjoy them.

26. Have a Great Trade Show Motto

Tradeshow Ideas - IBM Outthink Limits at SAP

A catchy phrase or motto can get stuck in trade show attendees’ heads and help them remember your brand long after the event has ended. While everyone already knows who IBM is, they nevertheless executed this strategy to perfection. The company’s “Outthink Limits” motto was a perfect fit for the SAP SAPPHIRENOW ASUG crowd. What slogan will your brand use?

27. Secure an Engaging Emcee

Where will you be on day two of #DF17 ? Learn about our conversational #AI . Giveaways every hour. Booth #1920 https://www.conversica.com/Dreamforce17 pic.twitter.com/GdfxHnXjYn — Conversica (@MyConversica) November 7, 2017

Looking to capture attention at your next trade show? Try securing an engaging emcee to host your booth. Whether you hire a professional or simply ask a charismatic team member, a great emcee will draw crowds, entertain them, and keep the positivity flowing. The Conversica booth, shown above, was hosted by the brand’s CMO who helped the company draw in the event’s biggest crowds.

28. Help Attendees Get Where They Need to Go

Source: Cabrio Taxi

At major events and trade shows, transportation is always a concern. Going back and forth between the event center and the hotel — sometimes even just getting from one end of the expo floor to the other — can be a pain. And the bigger the event, the tougher transportation becomes.

There aren’t many events bigger than the Super Bowl. In 2016, Levi’s and Cabrio Taxi teamed up to offer free rides to folks in the area. This helped with both brand recognition and goodwill.

Can you help trade show attendees in the same way? Maybe you could offer free shuttles to the expo each morning. Or hand out directions to the best restaurants near the event center. Help folks get where they want to go and they’ll thank you for it.

29. Invite Folks to a Fun Afterparty

Salesforce - Tradeshow Ideas

Who doesn’t love a good afterparty? Answer: no one. As attendees frequent your booth, invite them to the killer bash you’re planning to throw that night. It’s just another way for your brand to connect with potential customers. Worried about hosting a get-together on your own? Partner with another business or two and split the hosting duties.

30. Have a Show-Stopper

30 Trade Show Ideas - Accenture Booth

Lastly, if you’re able to, add a showstopping element to your trade fair display. In the above example, Accenture brought in a sleek ride for folks to gawk at. Perhaps your business could connect with a sponsoring company as well. You provide the space, they provide the showstopper, and everyone wins!

Trade shows present an awesome opportunity for marketing and sales professionals. Exhibiting at one will allow you to showcase your company’s new products, meet new potential customers, and network with important industry folks.

But to really take advantage of the expo opportunity, you need to make sure that your booth or kiosk is a hit with attendees. Just remember these main takeaways:

  • Grab Attention: This is the name of the game at trade shows. When there are hundreds of other companies exhibiting and fighting for attendee attention, what will your business do to stand out? Crack that code and you’ll be miles ahead of everyone else.
  • Know Your Audience: People attend trade shows for many different reasons. Why is your target market there? Also, what will they need and/or appreciate during their stay? Sharing tips and tricks, giving hands-on experiences, and providing relaxation areas are just a couple of ways your brand can meet customer needs. But you need to know what those needs are before you can successfully meet them.
  • Keep It Fun: Yes, people attend trade shows for business purposes. But that doesn’t mean they don’t want to have a good time while they’re there! Think about ways that you can entertain folks — whether it’s by hiring a great emcee or musical act, creating one of a kind experiences, hosting an incredible afterparty, or something else.
