Sam and Julie June 2019

We have been to London many times, and did not know this Battle of Britain bunker was there. Brilliant experience! I was standing in the spot where Churchill stood during the battle. We than travelled on to Bletchley park which is another outstanding experience, I learned so much in there, you could spend half a day in there on its own. As an enthusistic follower of WWII what a great experience and day out. Thank you Ian and Travel England Tours.

Learn more about England

Local culture.

The culture of England might appear to be much the same as Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. But ask folk from each of these countries and they’ll tell you a different story. Sure, there are many similarities, but England has a unique culture that differs from its neighbors.

For a start, English culture is extremely diverse with many sub-cultures, dialects, accents and traditions. In fact, there are some pretty stark differences between the north and the south. Northerners are known for their warmth and friendliness, things generally tend to be more expensive in the south, and gravy (which is welcomed on everything in the north) isn't a massive thing down south. That being said, some common cultural ground people share across England include good manners, small talk about the weather and humor that verges on the sarcastic side.

Food and drink

England (and the UK in general) is very multicultural and you’ll find every cuisine from Indian to Lebanese to American. London in particular is a thriving hotspot for foodies with pop-up food villages, quirky converted eateries and over 60 Michelin-stared restaurants. The term “meat and three veg” was coined in England, and while English cuisine doesn’t have a global reputation like French or Italian, the food is simple, hearty and comforting. If you’re looking to try some classic English food, here are some dishes to try.

Fish and chips

A flaky piece of battered fish served on a mound of salty chips, lashings of vinegar and a side of mushy peas. This is as English as it gets. Up north they smother their chips in thick brown gravy or curry sauce. Other popular condiments include tartare sauce and pickled onions or eggs. You’ll find the best fish and chips by the coast in places like Blackpool, Devon or Cornwall.

Bangers and mash

A ‘banger’ is a sausage in the UK. Why? Well, after WWI when food was still rationed, sausages were plumped up with so much fat that they exploded when cooked. ‘Mash’ refers to creamy mashed potato traditionally made with butter and milk. Et voila, you have bangers and mash - one of Britain’s most beloved dinners. Served with peas and lashings of onion gravy, it’s a hearty and filling dish that goes down particularly well on a cold winter’s night.

Sunday roast

Ask an English person what they think is the most loved national dish, and they’ll probably say a Sunday roast. This age-old tradition isn’t just a lunch eaten on Sunday afternoons, but an opportunity for the whole family or group of friends to spend quality time and enjoy a nice meal together. It’s essentially a centerpiece of roasted meat (usually chicken, beef, pork or lamb) served with crispy roast potatoes, seasonal roasted vegetables and lashings of gravy. It might also be served with a Yorkshire pudding depending on where you are. It's usually served with mint sauce (for lamb), horseradish sauce (for beef), or bread sauce and redcurrant jelly (for chicken). You can get a roast dinner in most pubs every Sunday.

Full English breakfast

Also known as a fry up, this hearty breakfast consists of eggs (usually fried but you can also get scrambled or poached), bacon, sausage, baked beans, grilled tomato, mushrooms and hot buttered toast. It’s typically served with a mug of tea or coffee. The carb and fat-rich foods also make it a go-to hangover cure for many Brits, and cafes usually serve it as an all-day dish. You’ll find slightly different versions of a fry up in Cornwall, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Festivals and events

Glastonbury Music Festival

Glastonbury is the crown jewel of the British music festival calendar. This five-day festival draws in about 200,000 people and is the size of 500 football pitches. You’ll find everything from world-class music acts, rising stars, comedy, dance, wellness villages, permaculture workshops, cabaret, secret bars, circus and so much more. It’s an eclectic, vibrant, random and truly wonderful festival – even when it’s pouring with rain.

Notting Hill Carnival

The Notting Hill Carnival is a vibrant Caribbean festival that takes place every August on the streets of Notting Hill in Kensington, London. The streets come alive with sound systems, DJs, live steel bands, costumed dancers, Caribbean flavors and smells, and spirited party goers. Thousands of people join the streets to enjoy the carnival vibes and party late into the night. Stemming from the Trinidad Carnival, Notting Hill Carnival began in 1966 and has remained a key part of London’s festival calendar.

World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD)

WOMAD is a gathering of 40,000 people at a beautiful site in Charlton Park to celebrate music, art, dance and culture from around the world. Spend your days exploring different music stages and grooving in the sunshine (or rain!), take part in one of the 80+ workshops, travel around the globe vicariously through your tastebuds at the food village, or perch yourself on the ground with a cold drink to simply take it all in.

Diwali in Leicester

Diwali – the Indian festival of lights that is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains – in Leicester is one of the world’s biggest Diwali celebrations outside of India. People travel from all over the UK and beyond to see the “Golden Mile” – illuminated temples and firework displays that symbolize the triumph of light over darkness, evil over light and knowledge over ignorance. The cultural program in Leicester includes music, dance, fire performers, religious ceremonies, delicious street food and funfair rides.

Chelsea Flower Show

Stop off in London for breathtaking floral displays of the  RHS Chelsea Flower Show.  Established in 1912, the Chelsea Flower Show is an exhibition of show gardens and floral displays set within the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. The Chelsea Flower Show is held in May and draws garden-lovers from all over the world.

When is the best time to visit England?

The UK experiences the best weather from June to August, though there’s never any guarantee that summer is full of sunshine and warmth. The crowds might be bigger, but this is because the country wakes up from a dark winter slumber and celebrates – a lot. Outdoor dining is in full swing, pubs and bars are pumping and festivals flood the events calendar. Spring and autumn can be cool and wet but with some sunny days, and the days are still long enough to enjoy the country’s diverse and picturesque scenery. Winter (December to February) brings short days, grey skies and sometimes snow, though this is more often in England’s northern counties or places are higher elevations. Top advice: always have a rain jacket and a brolly at the bottom of your bag.

Guided tours of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland allow you to minimise the travel hassle as you’ll have a company to do most of the planning for you, and many of the United Kingdom tour package options we’ve included here allow you to see far more of the UK in a shorter period of time than it would be possible to do on your own.

Guided tours of UK can also offer good value for money, and there are some great UK trip packages on offer. Unfortunately, choosing which UK tour to take is not so easy – as the choice of tours in UK can be really overwhelming. There are just so many, so where to start looking?

In this guide I’ll walk you through some of my favourite UK tour itineraries and how to choose the best UK tour that’s right for you. Whether you’re looking for England tours, cheap UK tours, all-inclusive England vacation packages, or the best coach holidays UK has, you’ll find plenty of options in this blog. I’ve also included some of my recommended cycling and walking holidays UK has for those looking for an active break.

When planning for your trip to England or the rest of the UK, it’s important to take seasonality into consideration. I go over all the details of the weather and the seasons in the UK here in this article .

When comparing tour operator UK options and which trip to take, be aware that UK tours tend to run with reduced frequency during the winter months, with many of the best UK tour packages running more frequently in spring and summer (April – August).

While some British coach holidays run year-round, speciality outdoor trips such as cycling holidays UK options may only run during summer months.

Best United Kingdom Tours – Choosing the Best Tour for you

When searching for the best UK travel packages and tours, there are many factors to consider. Here are some of the top things I recommend taking a few minutes to think about before deciding on the best tour of Britain for you:

Many of the most popular UK guided tour options are small group tours. UK small group tours vary widely in size with what is deemed to be a ‘small’ group – with some having up to 50 in a group while others keep it to 12 or under.

Coach tours UK options are a convenient way to travel around with the rest of your group and often allow more to be fitted into an itinerary than independently travelling by train.

These range in style and you can find plenty of luxury coach holidays UK options as well as budget bus tours UK.

If you want to take the train but also like the idea of a guided tour, you could consider one of the train holidays UK options listed below.

This is the one most of us forget to consider! In order to fit as much in as possible, some of the popular coach holidays in England and the rest of the UK move very fast, taking in multiple cities and sights in a day and usually spending only 1 night in a place.

This can get tiring, so if you prefer to spend at least a couple of nights in each place, check for itineraries that allow you more time or you could consider choosing one of the self-drive holidays UK options available.

Also, see our tips at the end of this article for extending your stay in the UK by spending extra days in London, Edinburgh, or any of the other common UK tour starting and endpoints.

England vacation packages and tours have different inclusions depending on the style of trip and company.

Most include transport, guide, accommodation and some meals, but check the small print so you know what you are and aren’t getting included on tours to England.

The entrance fees to many sights are often not included in tour pricing.

If you’re looking for the best adventure tours UK has, then we recommend Rabbie’s who deliver great tours at a budget-friendly price point for those who love the outdoors.

View over Loch Ness can be seen on some of the best UK tours.

Best for Scottish Highlands exploring and Solo Trips UK.

If you’re looking to focus your UK trip on Scotland , then this 7 day Scotland tour from Edinburgh by G Adventures is well worth a look.

G Adventures also offer very reasonable single supplements if you’re looking for the best solo holidays uk options – or you can choose to share a room with another traveller of the same sex. Either way, G Adventures UK is popular with solo travellers.

Starting in Edinburgh and finishing in Glasgow, this Scotland tour takes in Inverness and the famous Loch Ness, Culloden Moor (famous for the Jacobite rising of 1745), the beautiful Isle of Skye and Fort William, with a chance to snap the famous Jacobite Steam Train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct (a must for Harry Potter fans) en route.

Accommodation is on a twin-share basis in 3* hotels and travel is by private minibus.

If you want the highlights of the highlands of Scotland, this is a good tour to go for, with the option to add on extra days at the start or end of your tour – you could easily spend more time in Edinburgh, or head down to London.

The Orkney Islands.

Off the beaten-path Highlands of Scotland

One of our favourite Great Britain vacation packages for getting a little off the beaten path is this wonderful northern Scotland adventure by Insight Vacations. Perfect for those wanting to see more of the Scottish Highlands or try something different when it comes to the many UK holiday packages.

Starting in Edinburgh, on this upscale tour you’ll take in Inverness and Loch Ness, the beautiful and remote Orkney Islands at the northern tip of Scotland – a part that few visitors see – before heading south down the west coast of Scotland to take in the Isle of Skye, the stunning Glencoe pass and Loch Lomond before finishing up in Glasgow.

Accommodation is in 4* hotels and travel is by private coach.

This is certainly one of the best UK coach holidays 2021 has to offer if the Scottish Highlands have been calling to you. You’ll love this one if you want to see the full diversity of landscapes and richness of community and culture that Scotland has.

Best of Scotland

Best for uncovering all four corners of Scotland

If you want to find the best luxury coach tours in the UK that cover much of what lies north of the border, then the Best of Scotland tour from Trafalgar is a popular option for summer. The adventure begins in the capital of Edinburgh on day one. You’ll then be transported around Bonnie Scotland for seven days before ending up in Glasgow.

This vibrant city lies to the west of Edinburgh. It’s the biggest in Scotland in terms of both population and square mileage. The metropolis is renowned for its magnificent architecture and as a cultural hub for fans of music, museums and more.

After arrival and on the second day of the tour, you’ll delve deeper under the surface of the historic and breathtakingly beautiful Scottish capital. Key sights including Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and Palace of Holyroodhouse are visited during your guided tour, and you’ll also enjoy free time to spend as you wish.

Between leaving Edinburgh and arriving in Glasgow – both of which are in southern Scotland – you’ll head north. The first stop is St. Andrews, where Prince William met Kate Middleton, before overnighting at a hotel in the Cairngorms National Park. During day four, you’ll visit the site of the famous Jacobite uprising, see Eilean Donan Castle, look out for the Loch Ness Monster and head over to the Isle of Skye.

The fifth day of the tour includes Ben Nevis and Glencoe en route to Glasgow. After staying overnight there, you’ll take a city tour before calling at Clydeside whisky distillery and Stirling Castle on day six. Day seven is departure day, unless you decide to stay on in Glasgow for longer.

Best for touring unspoiled Scotland

If what appeals to you most about the British Isles is the chance to spend time in Bonnie Scotland, this tour to far northern Scotland might be the one for you. It’s what Great Britain vacations are made of for many – beguiling cities, beautiful coastline and of course a dazzlingly rich and varied history.

Day one transports you from Edinburgh to Inverness, via the famous Forth Bridge, picture-perfect Perthshire, the peaceful village of Dunkeld, the fascinating Highland Folk Museum, the Cairngorms National Park, bloody Culloden Battlefield and the standing stones at Clava Cairns.

Next up on the second day is the spectacular North Coast 500 trail, via French-style Dunrobin Castle, en route to the island of Orkney. Puffin territory and an astonishingly well-preserved Neolithic settlement await after overnighting on Orkney.

Both the better-known and lesser seen sights of Scotland make up much of the tour’s second half. These include Smoo Cave in Sutherland, the harbour village of Ullapool, Eilean Donan Castle, the Isle of Skye, the Jacobite Steam Train from Mallaig to Fort William and Glencoe.

During the last day, you can also choose to take an optional side trip to one of the Western Isles – namely Iona, Kerrera, Mull or Staffa. Alternatively, climb up Battery Hill in Oban or call into the

local Whisky Distillery. Finally, before heading back to Edinburgh, visit the Kelpies and Stirling Castle.

Aerial view of Keswick in the Lake District

Best England, Ireland, Scotland Tour packages

Some of these itinerary options include the best England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales tours for a comprehensive circuit of the British Isles, while others combine Ireland and Scotland to get a fuller taste of the Celtic lands.

View of evening in Dublin can be appreciated on some of the best UK tours.

Best for a whistle-stop tour of the UK and Ireland

If seeing England and Scotland isn’t enough for you, then you might like to add on Ireland. This ten day trip is arguably the best way to see England, Scotland and Ireland in one hit. It lasts for ten days, and packs far more into that time than you could feasibly manage on a self-guided basis.

First up after departing London is Shakespeare country and Stratford-upon-Avon, then it’s the Yorkshire cities of York and Bradford. The Yorkshire Dales, Lake Windermere, Gretna Green and Glasgow are then on the agenda for day three.

There’s a day in Edinburgh for the fourth day, before heading to Ayrshire, Belfast, Dublin, Kilkenny and Waterford on day five and six. Cardiff, Bath and Windsor are the final stops before the tour winds up back in London.

This tour offers incredible value for money, and really maximises each and every day when time in the UK is tight.

Best for trips to England and Ireland that include the main highlights

If you’re looking at tours of England, Scotland and Ireland, then this 10 day trip by Globus may tick all the right boxes.

Start and end in London on this tour that takes in the English highlights of Stonehenge and Bath before exploring Newport and Cardiff in Wales en route by ferry to Waterford and Dublin in Ireland.

Head north through Ireland towards the up-and-coming city of Belfast and crossing back into Scotland to take in the sights of the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

On the final leg you’ll head south through York and Stratford upon Avon to London to soak up the best of English history. Travel is by coach.

This is one of the best tours of England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland if you’re tight on time and don’t want to forgo any of the countries of the British Isles. The travel is at a fairly fast pace though – so you may wish to add on a few days to relax at the end of your trip.

Snow peaked mountains in Glencoe.

Best for combining Scottish Highlands & Ireland

One of the comprehensive UK tours from London options in this list, this itinerary works well if you want to start in London and have a few days before your trip starts to explore the UK’s capital – either through an extension booked through Insight or under your own steam.

Leaving London, this ultimate UK tour takes in the historic English highlights of Stratford and York before heading past Hadrian’s Wall to Edinburgh and circling the Scottish Highlands.

Take in the legendary sights of Loch Ness, Glencoe and a boat trip on Loch Lomond before heading back south into England and Wales, and crossing over into Ireland.

Travel is by private coach and accommodation is at 4* hotels.

On this grand UK tour, you’ll spend a total of 5 nights in Ireland and 7 in England & Scotland, making this the perfect UK tour packages from London when you just want to see it all!

Portree on the Isle of Skye.

Best for English countryside and Roman history

Following the route of Hadrian’s Wall makes for one of the best road trips in the UK. Though the wall is quite justifiably famous, the route along it is far less touristy than other parts of the British Isles. The wall stretches from near Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the east to the compact city of Carlisle in the west.

Hadrian’s Wall can be found within the more peaceful parts of England’s two most northerly counties. As this is a walking tour you’ll need a reasonable level of fitness, but this also means you’ll get up really close to the sights of Cumbria and Northumberland. And of course the unspoiled English countryside, with its dry stone walls and sheep-dotted emerald fields.

To give you some idea of the distances, the first day’s walk is around eight miles, between Carlisle and Irthington. Other walks include the six mile trek between Lanercost Priory and Gilsland, the three-and-a-half Walltown Crags to Haltwhistle route and seven miles from Once Brewed to Brocolitia Fort. It’s also nine miles from Chollerford to East Wallhouses, and about five from East Wallhouses to Wylam.

Highlights of this tour include the pretty Cumbrian village Crosby-on-Eden; Birdoswald, Housesteads, Brocolitia and Vindolanda Roman Forts, Walltown quarry, Sycamore Gap, the site of the victory of Oswald and the historic old Military Road.

Best Tour Companies UK Reviews

Not sure which of the best travel agency UK options you should pick? Below you can find a short review of what to expect when travelling with any of the UK tour companies mentioned above.

G Adventures tours are known for their good value and experience-rich approach. They attract travellers of all ages, both couples and solo travellers, thanks to their twin-share policy where single travellers can travel at no extra cost if they share with another traveller of the same sex.

Travel is in small groups (max 12) and includes a local tour guide “CEO”. Accommodation is in mid-range hotels and guest houses, and typically breakfasts and entry to some sights are included.

Travel in the UK is mostly by private mini-bus unless otherwise stated.

Popular for coach tours in the UK and around the world, Globus Journeys offer guided coach tours in the UK and Ireland, either with smaller groups (max 24) or larger groups (up to 50) depending on the style of the trip.

Accommodation is typically in tourist class hotels (3* and 4*) with well known brands. Globus is popular among travellers aged in their 50’s, 60’s and up for the convenience of travel by coach and their tours have more meals and excursions included than some.

Expect itineraries that pack places in, so you’ll see a lot, and stays are typically 1 night.

GRJ are the go-to for UK steam tours and railway journeys around the UK and beyond, so if travelling the UK by train is what you’re hoping to do, look no further.

Itineraries are designed to take in iconic lines and to provide the best steam train holidays UK has (or ‘regular’ trains). Journeys are escorted by a Tour Manager, and the majority of travellers are either solo travellers or couples aged between 45 – 80.

Accommodation is in 3* hotels or higher. The maximum group size on any trip is 50, or you can opt for a tailor made travel experience.

Insight Vacations are an upscale tour company offering luxury UK coach tours with up to 40 people per group.

Travellers are typically 45 and up, and itineraries are a little more relaxed than many other tour companies, including 2 night stays at many destinations and “relaxed starts” in the morning spread out through the trip allowing time to catch up on rest if you need it.

Accommodation is in 4* hotels and trips are accompanied by a tour manager.

Famous for great value adventures around the world, in the UK Intrepid offer a range of shorter ‘retreat’ style trips – so if you’re after hiking trips UK or a guided walking and cycling holiday, look no further.

Accommodation is in local guest houses and you’ll be accompanied by your own Intrepid Travel guide for the duration of the trip.

Maximum group size is 12, and rooms are on a twin share basis with the same sex if you’re a solo traveller, or you can pay a supplement to have your own room.

Offering a mix of small group tours, independent adventures, cruises and self-drive vacations, Indus Travels allows you to set your own pace of travel with flexible itineraries when you choose one of their ‘unbundled tours’ or self-drive trips.

Self-drive trips are just you, your car rental, itinerary and accommodation, whereas group tours have up to 22 travellers, English-speaking local guides, deluxe accommodation and air conditioned coaches included.

Indus is popular with younger and older travellers alike, with many travellers in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.

Well known and popular Trafalgar Tours England have been offering coach travel around the UK for many years and have many happy customers behind them.

Group tours have a maximum of 50 people, travelling by coach to the most popular destinations. They are popular for England tours for seniors (and younger people), and on any of their England tour packages you’re guaranteed to have a lot packed into your itinerary. That’s one thing to bear in mind – this is definitely not slow travel – but it’s a good way to get an overview of the British Isles.

All tours are accompanied by a guide and accommodation is tourist class 3* or 4* international standard hotels.

Rabbie’s tours have some great England travel deals (and beyond). They’re a small group tours company providing great value breaks that help you get off the beaten track in the UK and Europe.

Rabbie’s aim to support local communities and promote responsible travel, by keeping tour groups small (10 people). They also work differently to other tour companies in that accommodation is not included in the tour price – once you book your tour you can choose your accommodation from a selection offered by Rabbie’s to suit your budget and preferences.

The name Rabbie’s comes from the nickname for famous Scot, Robert Burns!

Image of the river Thames and the London Eye in London sights included in a few of the best UK tours.

If you have a day, two, or more aside from your tour, we highly recommend taking advantage of those to explore London, or another city if your tour is starting from elsewhere – Edinburgh is another popular starting point for the UK tours mentioned in this guide.

While some tours include sightseeing in London (or another departure city), not all do – or they include a very shortened version – and trust us that 1 day is definitely not enough to see London in, especially if you’re jetlagged.

If you can, arrive a few days before your tour begins to enjoy the top London sights and get onto UK time if you’re flying in from far away. You can find our complete London travel guide here to get you started.

What to pack for England

People packing for a tour

With a high chance of experiencing four seasons in one day, an umbrella is a must when visiting England, both for rainy days and occasions when the sun beams down.

Digital maps

It's always good to have a backup of digital maps on standby when you're out exploring in your own time. Download them prior to your trip so you can reach them even when your phone is offline.

Travel adaptor

Though many hotels will have adaptors available for use, being prepared with your own will ensure you're always charged and ready to go.

A good book

With a seemingly infinite list of parks found in England, don't forget to pack a novel and immerse yourself in a good book should the occasion arise.

With days full of adventure and numerous souvenirs tempting your strolls, a day pack will ensure your hands always remain free. Split the weight across your back with a double strap bag for extra comfort.

Pack for sustainable travel

Consider your environmental impact when you next take a trip and go single-use-plastic-free by packing a reusable water bottle, a steel straw, your own shopping bags and toiletry bottles.

4. East Of England

The famous cities include Cambridge, Norwich, and Ipswich. Fishing is the major industry, and various areas have different specialties. Herring, cod, and flatfish are brought in Suffolk's Lowestoft, while King's Lynn is famous for shellfish. In the flat plains of the region, farmers grow sugar beet, cereals, vegetables, and fruits and raise cows, sheep, turkeys, etc.

5. West Midlands

Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Isle of Man, Cheshire, Lancashire, and Cumbria are the counties of the region. Cumbria, also known ad Lake District, is the second-largest county in England.

Apart from the 15 lakes, the rugged area of the county is also home to the country's biggest mountains, with Scafell Pike being the highest peak. The largest cities of the Northwest region, Manchester and Liverpool, are important ports of England.

Once famous for its shipbuilding and glass-making, this region is now famous for producing pottery and electrical machinery, especially in the Northumberland country.

The other two counties, Durham and Tyne and Wear have manufacturing and engineering industries in various parts. Sunderland is the largest city in the region. Cathedral city of Durham, Berwick-upon-Tweed, and Newcastle-upon-Tyne are other historically important cities.

The two major industries of the region are textiles and engineering that are more concentrated in South and West Yorkshire. The moors have a rough grazing area for sheep, which give milk to produce delicious cheese, supplied throughout the country.

Literary Legacy

While the wider UK has much claim in the literary world, England has produced perhaps the most recognizable list. From Shakespeare to Jane Austen, it’s a literature enthusiasts dreamland, and several tours that visit England include a comprehensive look at famous literary sites.

You can visit Shakespeare’s house, the Globe Theater, Charles Dickens home, and even the pub where JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis use to meet for a pint and lively conversation.

Rolling Countryside

While it might seem cliche, England really does have a fair share of idyllic countryside. Rolling green hills, quaint cottages, lakes, ponds, and country roads are most quintessential in Kent, the Cotswolds, and the Lake District. These areas showcase a unique beauty, and many tours will explore them as a part of their itinerary.

A more wild version can be found in the far north of England, in Yorkshire, the famous home of the Brontes who spend their youth exploring the moors surrounding their fathers Parish. Down in the south of England you’ll find the mysterious Stonehenge site, surrounded by more misty, expansive moorland.

Top Castles in England

The English land is full of fascinating marvels of historical times. Old historical castles are one important part that people love to explore during their England tours. There is a huge variety of castles from various times roaring in the sky and telling the long stories of their past. You cannot visit all of these castles during a single England travel tour.

Here is a list of some most important England castles that you should include in your must-visit list when you are going to travel to England.

1. Warwick Castle

Built somewhere in the 11 th century, this medieval castle is located in the county town of Warwickshire on the bend of the River Avon. The castle is one of the most famous ones among tourists as well as locals. The historical monument has undergone various renovations and reconstructions since its original construction.

The present form of the castle was built in 1608 by William the Conqueror. Until the 17th century, this marvelous building was in use as a fortification but was then turned into a grand home and is now open to the public. Visitors can spend hours admiring the views, exploring the corners, and enjoying the art exhibits.

2. Windsor Castle

Occupying about 5 hectares of land, this Berkshire-based castle was built in the 11th century and had the privilege to be the oldest castle of the world that is inhabited by the royal family. Originally it was built to protect London, but due to being close to the royal hunting grounds, it soon became a royal residence. Today, the Queen uses it as a royal residence for official tasks as well as her weekend home.

Some parts of the castle are open for the public that let you have a peek into the opulent stateroom and admire their treasured interior. However, you can stroll along the castle’s Long Walk path and admire the scale and grandeur of the castle. Also, visit the beautiful garden around the castle.

3. Bodiam Castle

This medieval castle is one of those few historical buildings that have retained their original picturesque appeal till today. Built by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge for purely defensive purposes, in 1385, the castle has a moat, circular towers, and gatehouse entrance twin towers.

However, the interior of the building couldn't survive much from the test of time but has left enough from its original form to represent the inner layout of the huge castle. Bodiam gives you a scene from some fairytale with its soaring towers and battlements. To save it from demolition, John Fuller, an art philanthropist, purchased the castle in 1829, in 3000 guineas.

4. Tower Of London

Sitting in Central London, at the side of the River Thames, this historic castle was built somewhere by the end of 1066. Though the official name of the castle is Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, it has not been used as a residence since the Tudor period. Built as the royal residence and fortified castle, the historic structure was used mostly as a prison from the 12th to the 20th centuries.

Many famous people, including royals like Henry VI, Elizabeth I, Richard I, and Edward V, were imprisoned in its walls. The castle is a popular destination among tourists who come to explore the amazing display of armory, Crown Jewels, and the castle's menagerie.

5. Bamburgh Castle

Sitting in Northumberland, on the northeast coast of England on volcanic dolerite, the castle occupies about nine acres of this rocky plateau. The gracious outlook has led to its casting in various movies and series for decades. The origin of this unique castle dates back to the 3rd or 4th century and is thought to be the capital of the native Britons' kingdom.

The core of what we see today was built in the 11th century by the Normans, but in 1894 William Armstrong, the Victorian industrialist purchased and restored the castle. It is still occupied by Armstrong's family, but 16 of the rooms are open for visitors that display ancient artifacts like medieval armor.

6. Arundel Castle

The 11th-century castle was built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century. It has the privilege to be one of the first English castles that had the luxurious facilities of electricity, central heating, and lifts. Like many other castles in England, a large part of Arundel has been rebuilt over time, but the interior has been well-reserved.

The medieval furnishing, tapestries, and rare paintings are worth a visit. For more than eight centuries, the castle had been the residence of the Dukes of Norfolk. Even after the massive destruction during the English Civil War of the 17th century, the 15th Duke of Norfolk restored the castle in the 19th century.

7. Dover Castle

Sitting at the top of the famous White Cliffs, this majestic castle dates back to the 11th century and is one of the largest castles of England. Due to its strategic position, the mighty castle was considered to be the key to England. Its structure has undergone various changes over the centuries to meet the warfare requirements.

With 21 feet thick walls, the castle was used for defensive purposes during various wars. During the two World Wars, the strategic location of the castle helped it to overlook the crossings to mainland Europe. It also plays important roles as a hospital, command center, and air-raid shelter during WWII. Explore the historic chapels, secret tunnels, specially designed walls, and much more.

8. Bolsover Castle

Unlike most of the English castles, this mysterious complex was not built for defensive purposes rather for as a grand home and palace. Built during the 17th century by Cavendish family, this castle took the place of an older medieval fortress. Apart from its artistic features, the castle is famous for its mysterious character, due to which it earned the title of the Spookiest English Heritage Site in 2017.

Stroll along the walls, have a view of the beautiful gardens and explore the interiors with a huge range of exhibits. The square-shaped building in the complex, called the Little Castle, overlooks the whole site with its impressive outlook, fascinating wall paintings, and interior.

9. Leeds Castle

Built in the place of an older structure, this charming castle dates back to the 1080s. The fascinating castle is one of the most beautiful structures of the world, with its impressive construction having a blend of Medieval and Tudor styles.

Due to its beautiful structure, the castle has been used as a production site for various movies and series. The original building was turned into ruins by the late 18th century, and the new present form was built by 1823. In 1926, Lady Baillie, the Anglo-American heiress Olive bought this castle and finished the restoration.

Train Travel in England

The train is the fastest way to travel around London, but it may not be the cheapest one. However, you can save a great deal on your train ticket by following some travel rules.

1. Try to book in advance , especially during off-peak hours as most of the companies offer up to 50% discount at that time.

Peak times vary for different companies, but usually, they are during early morning and late afternoons when there are huge traveling crowds on the station. Off-peak hours are outside these times, like in the middle of the day or late at night.

2. For most of the routes, it is better to book a return ticket that can cost you less than the two single tickets together.

Day Return ticket allows you to take a trip to and from the same destination on the same day while Standard Return allows you to have a return journey on the discounted price within one calendar month of your departure date.

3. Getting a rail pass can help you save more on your tickets and is also a convenient and time-saving way of traveling by train.

The BritRail passes cover all trains within a geographical region, but you need to activate them before starting your journey. BritRail passes can be easily activated from the ticket office. Keep your passport and a few passport size pictures with you.

To make your England travel more convenient, get a BritRail pass . The BritRail makes it very easy to travel around, and you can literally hop on any of the British trains with just your pass in hand. However, it is better to reserve seats in advance, especially for weekend travel as the trains tend to fill up quite soon. Seat reservation is free for any train and can be made from any train station in Britain.

There are various types of Railcards for different groups of people; 16-25 Railcard for full-time UK students or people between 16-25 years of age, Senior Railcard for people over 60 years, Disabled Person Railcard for people registered for disabilities, Two Together Railcard for a couple or any two people traveling together, and the Friends and Family Railcard covering four up to four adults along with four children traveling together.

All of these Railcards are available in just £30 and valid for the whole year. The cards let you enjoy a 30% discount on almost all train travel and a 60% discount for children on the family card. To upgrade your ticket to the standard or first class, you have to pay some extra, but that will give you a free meal, Wi-Fi access, bigger tables, and extra legroom.

For those who don't want to get bound by reservation, there is the flexible ticket facility that you can get from any train station at any. Also called Anytime tickets in England, these allow you to travel on certain dates or times. As these tickets let you travel during peak hours as well, so they are usually a lot more expensive than the fixed ones.

If you are traveling with a flexible ticket and have no seat reserved, you might not get a seat during your journey, especially during peak hours. You can only get a seat on a flexible ticket if there is some unreserved seat by some other passengers.

The Best Tours of Buckingham Palace

Getty Images

On a visit to London , some of the top attractions are linked to the royal family. But nothing is quite as iconic as a visit to the one of the three official residences of the monarchy – Buckingham Palace . While it's only open to the public on select dates, you can relish in its beauty from the regal gates, snap a selfie and catch a Changing the Guard ceremony.

How to Tour Buckingham Palace

For about 10 weeks every summer (select dates from July 11 to Sept. 29, 2024), Buckingham Palace opens its elaborate gates, welcoming visitors to explore its lavish State Rooms, grounds and Royal Collection artworks. The Royal Mews is also open to visitors from March to October, showcasing the Royal Family's real working stables and ornate, historic carriages – including the Gold State Coach used for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Coronation in 2022.

If you aren't here at the right time, fear not; this extravagant, 18th-century royal residence is just as impressive from the outside, making it worth a visit any time of year. Check online for a current schedule of the Changing the Guard ceremony – when the red-and-black-clad Royal Guard marches toward the palace, accompanied by striking military music – and see a tradition that's been running for more than 300 years. Combine it with explorations in the surrounding area of Westminster to see London at its most quintessential.

You can explore all of this independently, of course – but if you're looking to dig a little deeper, hear about the king's coronation and uncover local secrets, consider a guided London tour . Insider experts can point out the best photo spots, take you to the must-see sights and show you the ins and outs of the area, while sharing knowledge of the country's royal history along the way.

There are tons of options out there, so where do you start? Based on local knowledge and traveler review sites, here are some of the most highly rated tours.

Changing of the Guard Walking Tour

Price: From $13 Duration: 2 to 3 hours Standout perk: Witness the pomp of the iconic Changing the Guard ceremony.

Watch the Royal Guard march toward Buckingham Palace as you witness this historic, quintessentially British spectacle on a tour of Westminster's highlights. Accompanied by a military band, you'll see the Old Guard (soldiers on duty) switch to the New Guard as they arrive at the palace from Wellington Barracks. Your guide will explain which regiment is which, before taking you on a guided walking tour past other world-famous, attractions, including Big Ben, Clarence House, the Houses of Parliament , St James's Palace and Westminster Abbey .

Recent travelers gave high ratings to the tour, saying guides were able to take them to the best photo spots for the ceremony while offering a wealth of historical and entertaining insight.

Tours leave at 10 a.m. and depart from the Victoria Palace Theatre. The outings end at Parliament Square.

Local tip: Look at the Horse Guards Clock on the Horse Guards Parade – the official entrance to Buckingham Palace and St James's Palace – to see a dark stain above the 2 (II, in Roman numerals). Price: From $161 Duration: 8.5 hours Standout perk: Get a rare chance to explore the State Rooms with Buckingham Palace tickets, and tick off two of the United Kingdom's grandest royal residences in one day.

This twin-castle tour offers the opportunity to enter Buckingham Palace and see its State Rooms, Royal Collection artwork and other treasures, with commentary from an audio guide. Explore the castle's lavish State Apartments and grounds, and visit St George's Chapel – the burial place of Queen Elizabeth II alongside many other monarchs, and the spot where Prince Harry married Meghan Markle.

Recent travelers said the tour was a great opportunity to see inside both palaces. Several commented on the extensive art collection at Buckingham Palace, and many enjoyed hearing insights from the guides, although some complained about long lines.

The tour takes place from July through September on select Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and leaves from Victoria Coach Station at 7:45 a.m.

The day includes a tour of the elaborate St. Paul's Cathedral (not available on Sundays), before embarking on a boat tour of the Thames, passing key attractions including Tower Bridge and Shakespeare's Globe. The day also includes a photo stop at Westminster Abbey, where Prince William and Kate Middleton married in 2011, and a brief walking tour of Parliament Square. Recent travelers loved the tour and praised the guides as highly knowledgeable and entertaining. Many were impressed with how much they saw in a day and said it gave them a great introduction to London (although it's worth noting a few felt there was quite a bit of walking involved).

Tours leave from Victoria Coach Station at 7:45 a.m. and finish at the London Eye.

Local tip: If you fancy delving deeper into the Tower of London in your own time, book a ticket to see the Ceremony of the Keys. Dating back seven centuries, this nightly ceremony is when the castle gets locked up for the night, with a special exchange between the sentry and Yeoman Warder taking place at 9:30 p.m. between the atmospheric battlements – both eerie and magical.

Admire the elaborate, Georgian-era King's Staircase and the King's State Gallery with its fine art collection, see the Queen's State Apartments where Mary II would come to relax or welcome guests, and visit the Sunken Garden, once a favorite spot of Princess Diana's. After, enjoy afternoon tea or lunch at the Kensington Palace Pavilion amid the gardens.

The Premier Classic London: Private 4-Hour Tour in a Black Cab

The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben across the River Thames at sunset.

Price: From $482 Duration: 4 hours Standout perk: You'll see many of London's must-see attractions, and as it's a private tour, you can tailor the trip to your liking.

If you're after a private tour, this half-day trip in a classic London black cab is just the ticket.

You can choose to align your visit to Buckingham Palace with a Changing the Guard ceremony, and you'll get expert commentary from your personal taxi driver, who's also a registered tour guide. Alongside the palace, you'll pass must-see points including the Houses of Parliament, Downing Street, St James's Palace, the Tower of London, Piccadilly Circus, Shakespeare's Globe, Borough Market and Covent Garden , with options to stop along the way.

Recent travelers loved the tour and said guides were able to tailor the trip, stopping at spots both on and off the tourist trail and offering plenty of historical insight.

Your driver-guide can pick you up and drop you off at your hotel; or a central London location.

Local tip: Make a stop at Borough Market to try some of the best food in the city, with more than 100 stalls offering everything from Persian to Italian, alongside plenty of fresh produce.

Classical Greece

Classical Greece  - We just can't say enough about how exceptional our tour guide Sophia was. Most all of our guides in the past were good, but with Sophia, she was so knowledgeable, professional and kept the entire trip moving very smoothly. This was an awesome trip!

Globus - Britain & Ireland in Depth - 24 Day Tour

Globus states that their tours feature "great hotels" and "amazing food". I can tell you first hand that this is literally false advertising and totally not true. I just returned from my trip yesterday and have taken pictures of the filthy carpet and boarded up windows of my various hotel rooms some facing the trash dumpsters and porta potties and others in the basement level reeking of mold and mildew with no air conditioning or water pressure. Our tour guide, Charlie was a history buff who treated everyone as if they were a student in his classroom and were only allowed to speak when spoken to and it was made clear from the start that all questions were best kept to themselves as he and he alone would decide when you were to be informed of that days schedule. Half the time we rode in coach unaware of the length of time until our next stop and even where and when our next stop for lunch would be. Early on in my trip, I contacted my travel agent to please help and she immediately reached out to Globus and nothing changed... the sub par hotels and tour guides dismissive attitude continued for 24 days. I am currently contemplating my next step of action to receive reimbursement for this false advertising as well trying to help others by sparing them of having this same experience.

Just completed Emerald Isle tour

Just completed Emerald Isle tour. We have been on many tours with Globus and others -- our tour director, Julian, was the best tour director we have ever had, bar none. He was extremely knowledgeable and HUMOROUS! Made the entire trip a home run

Best of Switzerland

This was our first GLOBUS tour and our third bus tour in Europe. We enjoyed all the places we stopped at and thought they were worth a visit. It’s a quick overnight and then on to the next place. The hotels were very nice with the exception of the first hotel in Zurich. Overall, there were no glitches on the tour and we thought it went smoothly. The first night starts on a wrong note because we stayed in a business area of Zurich on a Sunday where everything is closed. The Welcome Dinner was sparse and the food bland and very disappointing for a first impression. If you have time and money I would recommend extending your stay to add a couple of nights in the old town in Zurich, otherwise all you will see of it is on the quick walking tour the following day. GLOBUS could improve its communication. There were no Name Badges or Activity Level ratings for Excursions on this tour. The Tour Director was not the same as shown in our packet. It would have been nice to have been given a business card with our Directors contact information. You only have the “Free time” mentioned in the daily itinerary if you don’t go on the optional excursion. You will not see much at some stops if you do the excursion so you should do your own research and decide. We were glad we decided to spend time in Stresa, it’s very quaint and easy to get around.

Our tour director

Our tour director, Christine was absolutely fabulous. She was extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, kind, friendly, and went above and beyond to accommodate everyone. Christine really tried to get to know everyone on the tour, their likes and needs. She frequently shared her own personal experiences. It is obvious that she really enjoys her job and also enjoys working with people. The tour took us to fabulous places and the hotels were located in central areas, allowing us to walk to many points of interest.

Fantastic Journey to Cuba!

It was a very well-planned tour with impeccable precision, experiences, and details. Globus and Cuban guides/directors were superb. Loved the experiences. I did contact Globus after we returned with one problem. At our MKE airport they mandated we give them our immigration papers...said we couldn't fly without the QR code...lady at counter finally gave us the website...Globus needs to prepare people for that.

It was a great trip

It was a great trip. The airport transfers were great. We are very glad we arrived a day ahead of time, which allowed us to adjust to the time difference. We also greatly enjoyed our 2 day extension in Prague. Our tour guide was very nice, and provided historical information during our bus trips. Our bus driver was a gem,and really knew how to navigate the city traffic. We loved that our tour allowed for enough free time to explore on our own. We took advantage of optional tours in each city visited, and enjoyed those. The local guides provided a great orientation to the cities, and provided great historical insights.

Vietnam Globus Tour

First and foremost, our tour guide Dinh was outstanding. He knows his stuff, excellent customer service and he made our tour great! He even met us at the airport in Hanoi at 1:00 a.m. to get us to our hotel when we first arrived!! Second, our accommodations (including food and beverage services) were all excellent. Third, our daily excursions/activities were all very good and as promised, and more, in the information we received ahead of time. Fourth, the communications by Globus with us was excellent. Confirmations, Travel Documents, Travel Packet and the app were all really good and very useful for us.

Highlights of the South Pacific: New Zealand and Australia

We selected this tour based on the itinerary- it hit all the key spots we were interested in seeing . The online Globus portal allowed us to submit all required docs for international travel and gave details on the hotels and event on our tour. Our tour director Leonie was FABULOUS! She was very knowledgeable, funny, and kept us on schedule. She created a WhatsApp group so we could easily communicate with everyone in the group and share photos. Highly recommend Globus tours!

Our travel guide Ronan was awesome

Our travel guide Ronan was awesome! Unfortunately we got stuck in New Zealand because of a visa problem and the global emergency line never would get back with us to help. We had to figure out and book our own flights to get caught up with our tour. The tour was five stars long as you didn’t have any problems if you are on your tour and you have an emergency problem, you are definitely on your own never heard back from them.

This was my second Globus tour

This was my second Globus tour. Michael the tour guide was very knowledgeable, personable and helpful as well as Barry the coach driver, they were both great! Definitely enjoyed this trip. The price was excellent I checked out several tour companies and Globus had the best deals. Booked another trip in November to Ireland. I would definitely recommend Globus Tours.

We had the most wonderful tour…

We had the most wonderful tour guide/tour director, Robert Marks. He knew so many things and treated us with great respect. We would recommend Globus just based on Robert. In addition we had great accommodations and a small (6 people) group of congenial people.

Marvelous Egypt

In February, my husband and I visited Egypt 🇪🇬 for two weeks, staying at five-star hotels. I cried due to seeing great temples of history such as Karnak, Luxor, pyramids of Giza, catacombs at Alexandria, sarcophagus of famous pharaohs, Egyptian museum (relics, art, chariots, masks, tombs, etc. from 3,000 years ago), Aswan, additional pyramids, Lake Nasser, a Nubian village, the Valley of the Dead, Tutankhamen’s mummy and treasures, hieroglyphs, place where Moses was supposedly plucked out of the Nile river, and so much more. This trip exceeded my wildest expectations. It’s one of the best ever and I have recommended it to my friends. The Egyptian people are friendly, helpful and we felt safe. Our tour director was so knowledgeable and helpful too. Wish I could go again.

Beautiful Spain

I really enjoyed all the beautiful places we went and the amazing hotels. Our guide, Jose, was spectacular, and always shared with the group, historical facts about the places we were visiting. The food was very delicious, though I was hoping for some Paella and succulent pig.

Date of experience : March 01, 2024

The Spanish escape was excellent

The Spanish escape was excellent. Loved all the places we visited and our tour director, Benjamin, made it so much fun while also being informative. We lucked up with excellent weather which made all the sightseeing easier. Will definitely use Globus again.

Everything was great as always with…

Everything was great as always with Globus. The only thing I would say is that it should offer a vegan or vegetarian selection, and of course a diabetic selection. The tour guide was great and accommodated everyone with these issues, but as she did not get notice ahead of time it just adds stress. To the people with the issues. And it’s something that should be told to the tour guide before she has to deal with it last minute or he.

Gems of Iceland with the Northern Lights

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Iceland. The hotels and meals were fabulous. The itinerary was perfect. Best of all we got to see the Northern lights. Our guide, Holm, was excellent! We are looking forward to planning our next Globus adventure.

Date of experience : February 04, 2024

Globus took very good care of us

Globus took very good care of us. The travel director, bus driver, and local tour guides were exceptional. They all gave us detailed information and history about the sites we were visiting. The travel itineraries were focused and the right pace for adventure.

Bonnie Scotland Tour Wasn’t so Bonnie

This was my first ever tour and I was so excited to be a part of this tour of Bonnie Scotland. I didn’t know this would be such a letdown and really ruin half of my trip to Scotland. Our tour guide was not the guide we were expecting. She was a little sporadic but overall good. Our coach driver was phenomenal. Our guide and driver did not stay with us for our first meeting dinner or our last dinner together. We all thought that was extremely odd. On our 3rd day we were supposed to take the ferry over to The Isle of Skye but there was a ferry issue which I was already aware of but our guide said everything would be okay. It wasn’t and we didn’t get too see the Isle of Skye and there was no backup plan to this missed adventure. We ended up on the coach for over 7 hours that day. We did get the other planned stops but it was a long day and once we got to Inverness everything was closed. So not much to do there but walk around. Another disappointment. Two out 4 hotels were absolutely horrible. The Aberdeen Althens Hotel is like being transported back to the early 80’s. Seriously, it’s old, dirty and smelly. In my room the closet had been taken out so there was no luggage rack. There was an ironing board up against the wall and the iron was laying on the floor in the little alcove. There was one hanger to use located in the alcove. The toilet wouldn’t flush rang down to let them know and they said they were experiencing a water pressure issue. I was never able to flush the toilet. Dinner was an absolute mess. It took over 1 1/2 hours just to get our food and it was below subpar. The Leonardo Royal Hotel was another mess. First, the reception staff are probably the most rudest people I’ve ever met. Again, the room was below standards. Toilet did not flush and the tub wouldn’t drain while showering. The rugs are absolutely filthy and everything smelled musty. The bathrooms in the reception area wouldn’t flush as well with no excuses other than rudeness. The breakfast if you can call it that was again below subpar. The Goodbye dinner was yet another disappointment between the service, food and lack of food that was ordered. Also. I think the excursion to experience a Scottish evening should be included in the tour. Making that our final night together. So many of us were disappointed with not being able to experience this. Again, make it part of the package and not an add on. I did enjoy the things I got see and experience. If it wasn’t for the wonderful and amazing people on the tour I would have probably cried a lot. Overall, this tour was a let down for me. I would have preferred to pay more to get clean accommodations, eatable dinners and the Scottish night included. After all it’s a Bonnie Scotland Tour! I personally will not be using Globus again and I definitely will not recommend the Bonnie Scotland Tour to anyone!

A once in a lifetime experience (European Tapestry with London) 2024

My mom and I just went on our first trip with Globus, and it was an amazing experience. Everything was so organized and well planned that we got to just sit back and relax and enjoy our vacation. We did the European Tapestry tour with London which was about 16 days long. Even though it was many days, not once did the level of service reflect that, every day we were greeted with smiles and given the same amount of care and energy that made this trip so enjoyable. Yes, there were some long days on the bus, but our tour guide, Kees, did a wonderful job of keeping us all laughing, and entertained while learning about history and different cultures, and our driver Simon kept us all safe on the road and was so helpful with all of our luggage and extremely kind. The hotels were to our surprise really nice and comfortable, they were above our expectations in cleanliness, accommodations and level of service. The excursions were really the heart of this trip, I would recommend the Swiss Dinner and folklore party, the Tuscan countryside dinner, Monte Carlo and Moulin Rouge. The planning of this trip was so well thought out, we feel we got a little bit of everything, whether that be fun or learning or just relaxing and seeing beautiful sights. This trip was a memorable one and was our first but definitely not our last. Thank you to Globus for such a wonderful and unique experience.

Donald Trump Is Banned from 37 Countries as Convicted Felon, Including Major Allies Like Canada and U.K.

If elected president again, Trump would need special permission to enter several key countries for maintaining foreign relations

Donald Trump may face travel restrictions with his newfound felon status , potentially complicating his presidency if he were to win another term in office.

Thirty-eight nations, counting the United States, bar felons from entry, according to World Population Review . Those bans stand regardless of whether someone is allowed to retain their passport after conviction.

Countries that turn felons away include several of the United States' strongest allies, like the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada — the final of which will host the G7 summit of world leaders in 2025. The list also includes a number of nations at the center of pressing foreign policy issues, such as China, Israel and Mexico.

AP Photo/Alex Brandon

International governments can, and in some cases would, choose to make an exception for Trump if he requested special permission as president to make a visit.

George W. Bush , who was arrested for drunk driving in the 1970s, ran into issues with Canadian travel restrictions during his presidency while planning an official state visit and, after applying for a special waiver, he was ultimately allowed to enter.

Win McNamee/Getty

In Bush's case, which still proved tedious, the circumstances were a bit different: the crime happened decades earlier, was only categorized as a misdemeanor and was never tried in a court of law (Bush admitted to driving under the influence upon arrest and got off with a fine and temporary license suspension). It's hard to say whether Trump's new 34 felony convictions would be dealt with in a similar manner.

Countries That Deny Entry to Felons

  • Dominican Republic
  • New Zealand
  • Philippines
  • South Africa
  • South Korea
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

If Trump were elected to another term in the White House and chose to apply for special travel waivers, the irony would not go unnoticed.

The former president has often characterized foreigners as "criminals," and has campaigned on a promise to tighten U.S. travel restrictions, which would include shutting down the border and instating travel bans on people of certain nationalities and ideologies.
