DBacks Elite is a travel baseball and fastpitch program based out of Dearborn Heights, Michigan. We have an indoor training facility and six outdoor fields in Dearborn Heights to meet every team's and player's training needs.

Our teams are nationally known, having been ranked by Perfect Game, Travel Baseball Rankings, etc. Players from over fifteen different states and Puerto Rico have traveled to Michigan to play for our various teams. We feel that we offer the best training and development in Michigan due to the combination of our experienced coaches and exceptional facilities.

Home of the Dbacks

DBacks Elite Baseball started in 2013 and has focused on developing and preparing youth baseball players for high school, college, and professional level for the past eight years. It is our staff’s mission to build a relationship with each individual player in our program.

Our goal is to help them understand what areas they need to develop in order for them to play successfully at the highest level of Baseball.

We evaluate our players and then begin to work on developing the physical and mental abilities within our organization of instruction, drill work, and live competition.

Our staff consists of ex-professional / ex-college players or coaches who love the game of baseball and instructing youth and high school players. Our staff has set a consistent “developmental system” that is applied through our 8u-18u teams. This system focuses on all aspects of developing a youth player’s physical and mental abilities. Our system has proven to help players’ baseball careers at the college or professional level as well.

Welcome to Southfield A’s! We are a non-profit, community-based organization playing at the higher levels of travel baseball. Even though we enjoy winning, our mission is to develop players that come to us with an interest in the sport. Whether new to baseball or a seasoned slugger, there’s a place for you with Southfield A’s.

Southfield A’s — An Elite Travel Baseball Program in Southeastern Michigan

Southfield A’s is associated with the North Oakland Farmington Baseball Organization and has teams at the 10U and 12U levels and — NEW for summer 2022: 6U T- Ball! T-ball season details will be determined based on the level of interest.  Contact Head Coach Marlin Gilliam for more information on all age levels.

Our 10U travel team plays 35-50 games over the summer and about 20 games during the fall. This team plays in the AA division. Under an experienced coaching staff, players at the 10U level focus on mastering the fundamentals of baseball – knowing where each and every player should be on every play is a season-long focus.

Our 12U travel team plays between 35-50 games throughout eastern Michigan each summer and about 20 games during the fall in the AAA division. Players at this level are getting ready to start their high school baseball careers and working to deepen their understanding of baseball philosophy in greater detail.

The Macomb Mavericks  is a youth hybrid travel Baseball organization with select Baseball teams based out of Macomb, Michigan.

Our primary goals of this program are twofold. Developing players personally and athletically. What that looks like is developing character and skills that will benefit players for the rest of their life and honing the athletic and personal skills necessary for play and success.

We are located in the 48042 zip code and participate in the Spring season with Macomb Township Little League, travel tournaments that are Local, with (maybe) 1 out-of-state tournament per year.

High school baseball state rankings feature three Top 10 teams from one league

Baseball battles are the norm in the Tri-Valley Conference Red.

But they’re taking it to the extreme this season.

No. 5 Saginaw Swan Valley, No. 6 Freeland and No. 9 Frankenmuth give the conference three Top 10 teams in the latest Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association poll. And they’re all fighting for No. 1 in their own neighborhood.

Swan Valley clinched at least a share of the league title, but Freeland is just a half-game back. That half-game is a wrap-up between Swan Valley and Frankenmuth in a contest that is knotted 3-3 in the top of the seventh, so this whole thing boils down to the final inning of the final game.

The MHSBCA poll for May 22 shows the four No. 1-ranked teams holding steady as Birmingham Brother Rice, Flint Powers, North Muskegon and Beal City retain their top spots heading into the final week of the regular season.

Seven teams either make their debut or their return to the Top 20 this week, highlighted by perennial power Orchard Lake St. Mary’s at No. 11 in Division 1 after a two-week absence. Clinton Township Chippewa Valley and Portage Northern join the fray in Division 1, Grand Rapids West Catholic and Lake Fenton are new to Division 2, Pewamo-Westphalia breaks through in Division 3 and Wakefield-Marenisco earns mention in Division 4.

Revving Up the Crowd: Exploring Detroit’s Professional Sports Teams

It’s Detroit vs. Everybody, especially for sports teams in Motown. Whether defending three concurrent titles in the NFL, NHL and MLB in the 1930s City of Champions era, dominating the NBA during the Pistons’ Bad Boys title runs or competing as perennial playoff contenders, à la 11-time NHL champions Red Wings, sports events in Detroit have left no shortage of fuel for fans in The Motor City.

The Detroit Lions are the “Gridiron Heroes” of Ford Field, but the history of the football franchise stretches back before the NFL’s Super Bowl era. In the NFL’s early years, the Lions were head of the pride, swiping up four NFL championships between 1935 and 1957 and establishing one of the league’s most cherished traditions in the annual Thanksgiving game . However, the Lions have since faced two separate, lengthy playoff droughts, with their postseason victories limited to the 1991 and 2023 seasons.

In the meantime, the Lions roster has invited Hall of Fame talent including three-time champion Bobby Layne, player and coach Joe Schmidt, cornerback Dick LeBeau and career-long Lions players Barry Sanders and Calvin “Megatron” Johnson. The Lions have played at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit since 2002, and expect a particularly loud roar from fans when facing rivals like the Chicago Bears , Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings . Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons may be best defined by the infamously scrappy Bad Boys teams of the late ’80s and early ’90s or the defense-heavy, early-aughts championship squad, but through it all, the team’s legacy reflects the hardscrabble, high-effort identity of the city it represents. After arriving to Motor City in 1957, the Pistons won their first NBA title in 1989, then repeated in 1990 behind Hall of Famer players like Isiah Thomas, Dennis Rodman and Joe Dumars.

Through an eventual rebuilding process, the Pistons assembled a crew led by fellow Hall of Famers Chauncey Billups and Ben Wallace, who claimed the team’s third championship in 2004. After spending nearly three decades at The Palace of Auburn Hills, the franchise moved to downtown Detroit in 2017 with home court at Little Caesars Arena.

Detroit Tigers

Not much has changed since the Tigers first fielded games in Detroit during the late 19th century. Bearing the same name and holding games near modern Downtown Detroit, the Detroit Tigers are a founding member of the American League, which formed in 1901. The club has won four World Series, in 1935, 1945, 1968 and 1984, and despite the lengthy title gap, Detroit fans season-after-season know there’s only one right answer to the question “Who’s Your Tiger?”

In 2000, the Tigers relocated from their original Corktown neighborhood-based Tiger Stadium to Comerica Park in Downtown Detroit. Over the years, the Tigers have engaged in American League rivalries against the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins. As a member of the NHL’s Original Six , the Detroit Red Wings are one of the distinguished and decorated franchises still on the ice. The Red Wings’ 11 Stanley Cup victories rank the team third in total NHL championships, behind the Montréal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, while notching the second-most Final appearances at 24. Facing elimination after falling against Penn State on Thursday night , the Michigan Wolverines baseball team took the field Friday night in Omaha to take on Illinois . To keep the season alive, the Wolverines were able to edge out a tight 4-2 victory.

On the mound, Michigan went with Will Rogers, giving him a break from his usual duties behind the plate in favor of this high leverage outing. Illinois countered with left-hander Payton Hutchings.

After two scoreless innings from Hutchings, Michigan got on the board first in the third inning. After Brock Leitgeb and Jonathan Kim walked to lead off the inning, Stephen Hrustich was able to capitalize with a base hit, bringing Leitgeb in to score. Michigan was up 1-0 early.

In the fifth inning, Michigan would continue to build on its lead. The red-hot Mitch Voit hit a triple to deep center field with one out in the inning. It was then Hrustich who came up big again, doubling to right field to drive in the run to give Michigan a 2-0 advantage.

While Michigan was building a lead for itself on offense, Rogers was absolutely dealing on the mound. Rogers got through seven scoreless innings, and even chipped in with the bat, as he was able to drive in Cole Caruso with a double in the top of the eighth inning to put Michigan on top, 3-0. Rogers pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth as well.

In the ninth, Michigan tacked on an insurance run, as Voit stayed hot and crushed a one-out solo home run to left field. That would put Michigan up 4-0, but Illinois wasn’t going to go down without a fight.

In the bottom of the ninth, Rogers went back to the hill for Michigan, and retired two batters while walking a third. Camden Janek then hit a triple to drive in a run, while Drake Wescott drove in Janek on a single.

All of a sudden, Illinois was threatening with two outs, but Michigan turned to Dylan Vigue, who was able to retire the final batter and give Michigan a 4-2 win.

Rogers was unquestionably the star of the night for the Wolverines. Despite some late damage, he pitched 8.2 innings, allowing only three hits and two earned runs. He also struck out eight hitters while walking two. It was a great performance when Michigan badly needed one.

Michigan now has another date with Penn State, after losing to the Nittany Lions by a final score of 9-5 on Thursday. That game will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday and air on Big Ten Network, with the winner moving on to the championship.

Fourth-Seeded Michigan to Head to Omaha for Big Ten Tournament

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (30-26, 14-10 Big Ten) heads to the Big Ten Tournament presented by IFS.ai in Omaha, Nebraska this week as the No. 4-seed. U-M's tournament play will begin on Wednesday (May 22) against the fifth-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes (31-21, 14-10) at 2 p.m. CT. The tournament is a double-elimination format so win or lose, U-M will play on Thursday (May 23) -- with a start time of 6 p.m. CT if the Wolverines win or 10 a.m. CT if the Wolverines lose. All tournament games will air live on Big Ten Network.

• Michigan is coming off a Big Ten weekend series against Indiana where U-M won the opener but fell in the final two games of the series. The Wolverines won 3-2 in a pitchers' duel to open the series behind strong performances from Kurt Barr and Jacob Denner on the mound and clutch hits from Will Rogers and Collin Priest . In the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday (May 16), U-M fell 11-2 with Priest accounting for both RBI with a two-run home run. The Maize and Blue lost its first conference series finale of the season on Friday (May 17), dropping an 8-4 decision that featured home runs from Priest and Kyle Dernedde .

• Entering the Indiana series, Priest was the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, and he showed why with a home run in all three games including the go-ahead home run in the 3-2 win over the Hoosiers. Priest was the only Wolverine to reach base in all three contests and is currently on an eight-game hitting streak and a 10-game on-base streak. With his home runs, Priest set a new Michigan freshman record with 11 in one season, and he now is tied for fourth in the Big Ten in conference games with eight home runs.

• Rogers has been the team's second-best hitter over the past 10 games trailing only Priest. Over the stretch, Rogers is hitting .348 with five extra-base hits and six runs. He is also second on the team in batting average in conference games, hitting .294 with a .559 slugging percentage. Rogers has four home runs in conference games and seven on the season.

• After eight home runs in the first 28 games, Stephen Hrustich did not hit one for 16 straight games. He has rediscovered his power and has six in his last 13 games. Hrustich is just one of two players to appear in every game this season joined by Dernedde. He is second on the team with a .301 average and has 50 walks on the season which sits second in the conference and 19th nationally for a team-leading .451 on-base percentage. He is also just one walk away from tying a program record for walks in a single season.

• Dernedde is the only Wolverine to start every game this season and has done so at shortstop. He is fifth on the team in batting average (.251) and holds a .375 on-base percentage. Dernedde has drawn 25 walks and been hit a team-leading 14 times this season. He also has four home runs on the season, with three coming in the past five games.

• This season, Mitch Voit is leading the team at the plate with 61 hits and 20 doubles. Voit's doubles are second in the conference behind Tyler Cerny (Indiana). He also has 11 home runs on the season, which is tied for second on the team. He is just six doubles away from the single-season record for Michigan. Over the past 12 games, he has four home runs with a pinch-hit home run against Kent State in the ninth inning and homers against MSU, Purdue and Akron.

• In conference play, U-M's pitching staff has found a new level and is second in the conference in team ERA at 5.11. The 5.11 ERA is almost a full point lower than the team's season ERA. The Wolverines have pitched the most innings in the conference at 216.2 and are middle of the pack in WHIP at 1.57. Michigan's rotation has been led by Barr, Denner, Voit and Dylan Vigue , among others.

• Barr has taken a big step up in his sophomore season and leads the team in ERA at 3.52 and is second in strikeouts with 50. He is also holding opponents to a .222 batting average which leads the team. In conference games, Barr holds a 3.64 ERA which is fifth among Big Ten pitchers with 30 or more innings.

• Denner has been a versatile weapon this year for the Wolverine pitching staff with 26 appearances and four starts. He currently holds a 3.91 ERA overall and a 2.09 conference ERA. His Big Ten ERA is third among qualified pitchers in the conference and second among pitchers with over 30 innings pitched. Denner holds an 8-4 record with four saves. He sits third in the U-M record books in all-time career appearances (92), fifth in career innings (278.1), and is tied for fifth in strikeouts at 256.

• U-M is second in the nation with 59 double plays which trails the College of Charleston by just one. The Wolverines turned two in the first game of the IU series but did not turn anymore after that. Dernedde and Mack Timbrook are one of the best double-play combos in the nation, turning 41 and 40, respectively.  Michigan has turned a double play in 38 of its 56 games with a season-high of four twice, and has turned more double plays this year than in 20 of the last 24 years, including the past 12 seasons.

• Michigan has been the No. 4-seed three times previously in the Big Ten Tournament -- once in 1996, once in 1999 and most recently in 2005. The Wolverines won the tournament in 1999, going 3-1 in Columbus, Ohio. In 1996, U-M finished fourth after losing both games. In 2005, U-M went 1-2, beating Iowa in the second game but dropping the tournament opener to OSU and an elimination game to Purdue. U-M has not been the fourth seed since the tournament moved to Omaha in 2018, and is 2-2 in opening matches.

•  The Wolverines are familiar with the Iowa Hawkeyes having played them in a three-game series this year and 10 times since 2022. U-M won the series in Iowa this year, winning both games of a doubleheader on Saturday to take the series. The Hawkeyes got the better of the Wolverines last year in the tournament, winning 13-3 in the opener and 5-0 in the game that eliminated U-M. Michigan defeated the Hawkeyes in 2022, clinching a 13-1 win en route to the tournament title. Overall, U-M is 9-5 in Big Ten Tournament games against Iowa.

Western Michigan baseball gets tough draw in the NCAA regional opener

The Western Michigan baseball team knew it was in the NCAA Tournament with the Mid-American Conference automatic bid, and now the Broncos know where they’re headed.

Western Michigan, coming off its MAC Tournament championship, is playing in the Lexington Regional and will face Kentucky, the No. 2 overall seed, the highest for the program, in the opening game on Friday. Kentucky (40-14, 22-8 SEC) and WMU (32-21), which has won four straight, including three shutouts, will play at noon on Friday at Kentucky Proud Park on the SEC Network.

Illinois and Indiana State are the other two teams in the regional, which is a double-elimination format, and will play at 7 p.m. Friday. The 64-team tournament was announced Monday. The winner of the Regional will advance to the Super Regional.

The Broncos are coming off a dominant weekend in Avon, Ohio, and won the MAC title as the No. 2 seed with a 10-3 victory over No. 3 seed Ball State. It is the program’s second MAC tournament championship, and the Broncos’ 32 victories this season are the most since the program won 35 games in 1993.

Western Michigan last won the MAC tournament title in 2016, which also was the last time the Broncos made the NCAA Tournament.

The Broncos have seven shutouts this season, tied for second in the nation, behind Texas A&M's 10. The Broncos have the best ERA in the MAC, and the second-best batting average against.
