2022 UK & Ireland Tour

THE OSMONDS: A New Musical   will receive its world premiere at the Leicester Curve on 3 February 2022, as part of a UK & Ireland Tour, which will run through to 26 November 2022.  THE OSMONDS: A New Musical   with story by Jay Osmond tells the official true story of the five brothers from Utah who were pushed into the spotlight as children and went on to create smash hits, decade after decade.

From their star residency on The Andy Williams Show from 1962 to 1969, to pop stars and ‘Osmondmania’ from 1971 to 1975, to the arrival of The Donny & Marie Show , a popular variety TV show, from 1976 to 1979, The Osmonds lived a remarkable life recording chart-topping albums, selling out vast arena concerts and making record-breaking TV shows – until one bad decision cost them everything.

Jay Osmond said, “ I’ve wanted to tell my story for such a long time and the opportunity to create this beautiful musical, a sort of ‘living autobiography’, seemed the perfect way to do so.  I spent my whole life performing live – on stage, on TV specials, in arenas – so the buzz of live theatre felt like the perfect place for me.  There were some difficult times of my life, and some big hurdles to overcome, and this musical will tell people things that will surprise them… but despite that trouble, when you look back and think of the fans, the music, the once in a lifetime things we did – it’s joyful.  I guess I want to do this now to try to spread a little bit of that joy.  I’ll know I’ve done a good job telling this story if I stand at the back of the theatre and see people waving their arms in the air, singing along and dancing in the aisles.  I just want people to be enjoying themselves.  I guess that is in the Osmonds’ DNA.”

The musical features a list of 1970s anthems, including One Bad Apple , Down by the Lazy River , We Can Make it Together , Crazy Horses , Let Me In , Love Me for a Reason , ( We’re) Having a Party , Puppy Love ,  Long Haired Lover From Liverpool ,  Paper Roses  and many more.

The Osmonds have sold over 100 million records worldwide and won 59 Gold & Platinum awards, and now Jay Osmond pulls back the curtain to reveal the real family behind all these hits: parents George and Olive Osmond and their nine children, Virl, Tom, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie and Jimmy.

THE OSMONDS: A New Musical   has a story By Jay Osmond, book by Shaurn Kerrison and Julian Bigg, and will be directed by Shaun Kerrison, with choreography and musical staging by Bill Deamer.

Full casting is to be announced.

The World Premiere of THE OSMONDS: A New Musical is produced by Royo in partnership with Twins Entertainment, with Vicky Nojesproduktion, Krall Entertainment, Aria Entertainment and Guy James Theatrical.

Review: The Osmonds - A New Musical (UK Tour)

One of musics most iconic families are the subject of a brand new jukebox musical that receives its world premiere not on the West End or Broadway but in the form of a UK tour. Kicking off in February this year, The Osmonds has been one of the shows I have been most excited to see despite not being overly familiar with their catalogue of songs or their story (Shocking, I know) so I couldn't wait for my time my turn to come to see this show, after hearing friends and theatre fabs rave about it over the past 2 months. But would my lack of prior knowledge of the group impact my enjoyment of the show?

the osmonds uk tour

The Osmonds - A New Musical tells the story of Merrill, Alan, Jay, Wayne, Donny and Marie Osmond alongside other members of their family as they cope with their momentous rise to fame and all the twists that came with it. With a story written by Jay Osmond himself, this is a loving recollection of their story set to a soundtrack of hits from their careers both as solo members and a group. With more than 100 million record sales to their name, there really is no shortage of songs to choose from.

The setting for this story sees Jay Osmond (played by Alex Lodge) narrate the story, kicking off with his departure from the group before going right back to the start. Providing a tongue in cheek, winking at the audience narrative, Alex is undeniably charming as Jay, spending more time on stage than any of his famous siblings allowing for them to prepare for their next big performance in suitably outlandish costumes (designed by Lucy Osborne) both fitting for the era and musical theatre itself.

the osmonds uk tour

Alan and Wayne Osmond are played by Jamie Chatterton and Danny Nattrass respectively – both wonderful in their roles, Ryan Anderson is an absolute standout as Merrill Osmond, delivering incredible vocals and an outstanding stage presence those who recently saw him in Pippin will be familiar with. For this performance, the role of the most famous Osmond, Donny, was played by understudy Tristan Whincup, who usually has an ensemble role including a small turn as Jimmy. Another example of how mind-blowingly good understudies were, Tristan was note-perfect in what is surely a challenging role. Together, the siblings had an authentic chemistry that bounced off the stage in all its harmless fun.

In a show dominated by the brothers, Georgia Lennon is refreshing as Marie Osmond, stealing the scenes she is in including a highlight performance of ‘Paper Roses’ and fabulous scenes portraying her partnership with brother Donny during their variety show. The Osmond clan is completed by Charlie Allen and Nicola Bryan as parents George and Olive. A revolving cast of talented children are on hand to perform as the group when they first started – at this performance, Jack Jones, Alfie Jomes, Alfie Murray, Tom Walsh, Osian Salter and Fraser Fowkes showcases a crazy amount of talent for their young ages, with Osian provoking audible “awws” from the audience as young Donny and Fraser effortlessly channelling little Jimmy with his performance of ‘Long Haired Lover from Liverpool’.

the osmonds uk tour

Let’s talk about the music. Timeless classics such as ‘Love Me For a Reason’ and 'Crazy Horses’ are just the top of the iceberg when it comes to this musical which delves further into the Osmond catalogue to pull out notable covers they recorded including ‘It Takes Two’, and a sensational finale of He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’. Andy Williams' ‘Music To Watch Girls By’ gets a surprising appearance, while a beautiful sequence of ‘I’ll Be Home For Christmas’ is full of festive cheer, despite it being April. The harmonies among the leads lifted the songs creating some of the most beautiful sounds you will ever hear on a stage.

With the classic songbook being arranged by Julian Bigg and Rich Morris, other musical highlights include Ryan Andersons soaring vocals on ‘The Proud One’, rousing act one finale ‘Let Me In’ and a performance of ‘Puppy Love’ from Tristan Whincup as Donny which reduced the audience of varying ages to a bunch of screaming teenagers – something that would usually fill me with dread, but I couldn’t help but buy into the infectious atmosphere as Osmondmania swept the theatre.

the osmonds uk tour

As the story was written by Jay himself, you do wonder how unbiased the story can be, with references to how he was the glue in the family feeling a little bit like a saviour complex. Co-written by Shaun Kerrison, who also directs, people may comment that the show lacks conflict and that in turn can make it dull – it’s true the most shocking thing that happens is the group loses a lot of money which leads to some harsh words (those expecting a punch up may be better off at an Oasis musical instead) but does every musical necessarily need so much conflict? Sometimes, it is nice to sit back and enjoy the ride, knowing you are not going to have every emotion ripped out of you and stomped on.

The staging for The Osmonds is among the best you will ever see from a touring production, with a fabulously bright and colourful set design from Lucy Osborne paired with stunning lighting from Ben Cracknell and clever use of sound from Dan Samson, imposing audience cheers to evoke the feeling of a classic Osmonds concert. One of the strongest elements has to be the choreography and musical staging from Bill Deamer, which of course uses the brothers’ original movement and brings it back to the stage for the 21st Century in what is some truly brilliant choreography.

the osmonds uk tour

I’ll be honest – I was intrigued by The Osmonds – A New Musical . While I love a good jukebox musical, I didn’t expect the show to be THIS good. Even as someone who didn’t know all of the songs (though admittedly I knew more than I expected) and whose first taste of Donny in the flesh was in panto at the Palladium just 4 short months ago, I was absolutely won over. Merging the worlds of a concert and musical theatre, the atmosphere really was palpable. A truly remarkable cast in a flawless production where every element comes together beautifully to make true theatre magic, Osmondmania well and truly claimed me in a show that is the best new jukebox musical I have seen in a long time.

Whether you grew up in that era or are a fan of the Osmonds or not, you will almost certainly love this show for a reason - the reason being it's a fantastic production. While it might be on a UK tour now, it feels inevitable that this is destined to light up the West End in the not too distant future.

The Osmonds - A New Musical tours the UK with dates currently booking until December 2022. Further dates into 2023 are to be announced. Full dates and tickets from https://theosmondsmusical.co.uk

Review The Osmonds 2022 Uk Tour, Manchester

Review the osmonds 2022 tour, the palace theatre manchester..

Last night I got to spend an indulgent couple of hours back in the 70s learning all about the story behind the powerhouse that is The Osmonds. Now I missed The Osmond era by a couple of years, however had teen neighbours who were obsessed.

I remember their bedroom walls filled with posters, also how they were always blaring The Osmonds from their bedroom windows. And when they passed me down their old Jackie magazines and annuals, I spent hours reading them from cover to cover. So whilst I missed the mania, there was always that awareness of the music and faces behind the band.

If you want to see me create my projects, follow me on Tik Tok and Instagram.

With this in mind I was so excited to see The Osmonds Musical, I knew I loved the music and was excited to hear their story.

What Is The Osmonds Musical About?

The Osmonds Musical drills down the life of The Osmonds growing up. Of their determined rise to fame, driven by their firm, ex army father and loving mother. But also shared how family politics and the effects that fame and life on the road had on their mental health, relationships and personal resilience.

Also how they fell from grace being left with two choices; Let others down and lose their right to trade as The Osmonds! Or pull together and rely on their faith, family and hard work to pull them through the bad times.

The Osmonds Musical is a glorious representation through the eyes of Jay Osmond. Who much to the delight of the many Osmonds fans, was amongst the audience last night to enjoy the journey with us.

It must have been odd and at times painful to watch your life played back in front of your eyes. I can only imagine the emotions of joy, pride and at times sadness he must have felt. But I truly hope and am almost positive the overriding feeling must have been pride.

If I had to sum The Osmonds up to a theatre goer? It would be, think of it as the The Jersey Boys without the sleaze! And just so you understand the place I am coming from, The Jersey Boys is one of my favourite shows.

The Whole Cast Of The Osmonds Was Perfectly Cast

The childhood Osmonds were just adorable and set the scene for the story perfectly, whilst narrated by the Adult Jay Osmond (the wonderful Alex Lodge).

The set screamed 70s, but was so simple and left nothing to hide behind. However the cast of The Osmonds needed nothing to hide behind, their voices were extraordinary. Donny Osmond (Joseph Peacock) had cuteness in abundance, but my standout favourite voice was Merrill (Ryan Anderson) although honestly? He had tough competition from the rest of The Osmonds they were wonderful, super talented and so believable.

The theatre was packed with die hard Osmond fans and I have never seen so many standing ovations in one production, the atmosphere was electric, they were up and down like yo-yos the whole theatre was up dancing for the last 15 minutes of the show it was wonderful.

Should You Go And See The Osmonds?

If you are a fan of The Osmonds, then you CANNOT miss The Osmonds musical. However if you love music then I still urge you to go, the story, the vibe and the music is electric, I left grinning from ear to ear, its a real musical treat. And lastly, favourite track of the night? Puppy Love is up there, but I’m not telling you the other as its in the finale so you will have to see for yourself.

Donny Osmond says ‘final’ goodbyes to family, shares sweet photo on Instagram with grandkids

Donny Osmond , the former teen idol has five sons and 14 grandchildren, all who are eagerly awaiting the return of the multi-hyphenate entertainer , currently on a three-month “Direct from Las Vegas “ tour.

And right before his departure, Osmond showed his social media followers what a giant peacock and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have in common.

Keep reading to learn more!

Donny Osmond, who found galactic success as a teen heartthrob in the 1970s, is as busy today as he was five decades ago.

In 2019, the 66-year-old man ended an 11-year Las Vegas residency with his sister Marie and returned to Harrah’s Hotel and Casino, headlining his first solo residency, which he resumes in the fall of 2024.

After stepping on the stage for the show, where he takes audiences on a “dynamic, energy-filled musical journey of his unparalleled life,” Osmond flies out to the UK for a limited run of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat .

The TV host wowed live theatre audiences with his performance as Joseph in the hit musical that ran from 1992 to 1998, and this time, he’s taking on the role of Pharaoh.

“I always knew I would return to ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,’” Osmond said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). “Having starred as Joseph in over 2,000 performances in this magical musical, I am now ready to channel my inner Elvis and assume the role of Pharaoh in Edinburgh starting this December [2024].”

But before any of that happens, he’s spending the summer, taking the “Direct from Las Vegas” show to venues across North America.

Giant peacock

With a packed schedule that keeps him from the large family he built with wife Debra (married in 1978), the musician carves out time to spend with his five sons and 14 grandchildren.

Speaking with People , Osmond earlier explained that regardless of how busy he is, family always comes first.

“That’s what balances my life out. Family is the most important thing, because the curtain will come down eventually, and then what do you have?”

Offering fans a glimpse into how he spent the days leading up to his tour, Osmond – who was disguised as a peacock in the first season of Masked Singer – shared an image on his Instagram, where he’s seen in the pool with the grandchildren and a giant inflatable peacock.

He captions the post, “Enjoying a final swim at home with my grandkids before the long US summer tour begins this Friday in Milwaukee. By the way, thanks to Sue Pearson from Leeds in the UK who gave me that inflatable peacock during my tour over there. We’ve had so much fun with it. Speaking of fun, I’ll see you all real soon on my US summer tour.”

Osmond’s loyal followers jumped into the comments section praising the family man, as well as sharing their excitement over his tour.

One netizen writes, “So this is how you stay looking young Donny, your happiness and precious family makes you smile, and that is why you’re always happy on stage.” A second, gushing over the kids, shares: “What a beautiful pictures of you and your grandbabies. Can’t wait to see you [in] Louisville.”

“Can’t wait for this summer tour. Rest up…what is it 41 venues? Wow! Donny What a historic US Tour. So exciting! See you in Connecticut,” adds a third.

Meanwhile, some fans zoned in on the peacock and referenced it to his appearance on Masked Singer . “Love the peacock…you should have won!!!!” one writes.

Marie osmond got legal help to keep away bee gees’ pop-singer brother andy gibb.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Singer Andy Gibb had a string of hits, glamorous girlfriends — and a raging drug problem that led to his premature death at 30.

At one point, ex-girlfriend Marie Osmond even took legal action to stop the “Shadow Dancing” singer from calling her, as told by author Bob Stanley in the just-released biography “ The Story of the Bee Gees: Children of the World .”

Andy was the younger brother of Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, who found international fame as the Bee Gees.

After growing up in Sydney, Australia, Andy followed his brothers into the pop scene and hit it big thanks to Barry writing the songs “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” and “[Love is] Thicker than Water” for him. Both songs shot to the top of the charts in 1977, and Andy became a heartthrob.

That same year, Andy — still just 19 years old — and wife Kim Reeder moved to West Hollywood, where he quickly became ensconced in the drug scene.

Reeder retreated to Australia, and gave birth to their daughter, Peta, in January 1978. The couple divorced later that year, leaving Andy free to date his way through Hollywood.

Still a teen, he started seeing starlet Susan George (“Straw Dogs”), eight years his senior. According to the book, Andy would lounge around on his expansive bed in the room — where the home’s previous owner, a drug lord, had been shot dead — staring at the mirrored ceiling and playing with guns.

Against all odds, he also dated fellow music star Marie Osmond — well known as a squeaky clean Mormon.

“He was doing tons of drugs and she didn’t even drink Coca-Cola,” record producer Albhy Galuten says in the book.

It was, unsurprisingly, a bad match.

“The Osmond family turned him away,” writes Stanley, and “Marie took legal action to stop him calling.”

Gibb’s next serious love was “Dallas” star Victoria Principal, who struggled to deal with Andy’s addictions.

“When she forced him on the spot to choose between staying together or leaving her for cocaine and alcohol, he told her he’d have to leave,” writes Stanley.

It didn’t help that Andy felt inadequate compared to his brothers’ — especially Barry’s — achievements and talent.

“I didn’t have any confidence,” Andy admitted to an interviewer. “I always thought that people were buying my records as an extension to the Bee Gees and I never thought there was an individual thing in there they liked.”

For a spell, he lived in Miami on a giant houseboat called “Shadow Dancer,” a nod to one of his hit singles, with a pet lion cub for company. When the cub grew too big for the boat he gifted it to the Miami Zoo — and had to be talked out of buying a pet giraffe.

After the Bee Gees ended their 1979 tour, Barry went straight into the studio to help Andy finish recording his third solo album.

Music producer Galuten remembers Andy being “in such bad shape” that Barry ended up singing for his younger brother on most tracks.

“It wasn’t an Andy album anymore,” the producer confessed. “It was Barry trying to rescue his brother. He was a basket case.”

Andy’s voice had been wrecked by cocaine and Quaaludes, Stanley writes, and it cost him lucrative work.

The singer won, then lost, the lead role in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” on Broadway. He was fired from the syndicated TV music show “Solid Gold.”

“People kept giving him chances and, without fail, Andy blew them,” writes Stanley. “As early as 1982 he had been selling his belongings to make ends meet, flogging his jewelry for cash on Sunset Boulevard.”

By 1987, Andy was finally clean — but also broke.

“He had filed for bankruptcy…and was living on a weekly $200 allowance from his family,” Stanley writes.

The Grammy nominee sporadically kept in touch with his ex-wife and daughter, Peta. But, according to the book, “management and family prevented [Reeder] from actually contacting Andy.”

“Peta and I were outcasts from the Gibbs,” noted Reeder. “I once sent him pictures of Peta but I had to do it through the fan club.”

Andy finally moved to the UK to live with his brother Robin, but he was still “skipping meetings, refusing to pick up the phone,” Stanley writes. Depressed, Andy even told his mother, “I might as well be dead.”

A few days after Andy’s 30th birthday, his mother took him to a London hospital as he was suffering from chest pains.

Bary Gibb, Robin Gibb and Andy Gibb

The following morning, the singer “slumped into unconsciousness as he was talking to the doctor” and was pronounced dead from myocarditis — an inflammation of the heart that can be caused by illicit drugs.

The Gibb family never fully recovered from the grief of losing their baby.

“In many ways, I think we’ve all refused to accept he’s gone for good,” said Maurice. “His death has definitely brought the rest of the family closer together. We are united in our devastation.”
