Since entering the Bravo-verse 2009,  The Real Housewives of Atlanta  alum has been quite open about her body image and the social pressures she’s faced during her weight loss journey. Although Kandi maintains that weight loss should be done for one’s self rather than somebody else, she admits her recent health kick was sparked by online comments.

She addressed the topic during a recent interview with  Page Six’ s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast , saying her body started to change after she announced her RHOA exit .

“After I left Housewives , I was eating good, living good,” she said during the June 25 sitdown. “Now, mind you, I was already 10 pounds over my desired weight at the top of the year. But then, when I announced that I was not going to do Housewives anymore, I was eating dessert every day, taking trips, just living it up. Before I knew it, I was 170 pounds and it was not cute.”

Kandi said she decided to slim down after her husband,  Todd Tucker , posted a video of her birthday festivities. While most of the comments were positive and celebratory, the ATL mom said some messages were all about her weight gain.

“That was it for me,” she said on the podcast. “Something about turning 48, I was like, ‘I definitely want to live my best life, but I want to be one of those chicks that, always, you can never tell my age by the way I look.”

Prior to her 2024 health kick, Kandi decided to try Ozempic — a diabetes medication that has been used to induce weight loss. However, Kandi confirmed that her Ozempic experience was short-lived, as she didn’t see any results.

“So last year, I tried it,” she revealed. “I saw so many people who were trying it and losing weight. So I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to try this.’ And I didn’t lose any weight. Everybody kept trying to say, ‘Oh, something must be wrong’ or ‘You need a higher dosage, or this, or that.’.. It didn’t curb my appetite. I know some people are like, ‘Oh, I can’t eat.’ Not me! I was eating appetizers, a regular meal and dessert, OK? It didn’t stop anything for me… It doesn’t work for everybody.”

She continued: “The sad thing about it is, when you see it worked for other people and it doesn’t work for you, it makes you depressed. Realistically, it makes you feel like, ‘What is wrong? Why is it not working for me?’”

Kandi Burruss & Andy Cohen Dissect Her RHOA Exit and Porsha Williams' Return: "Awkward"

“My ultimate goal is, basically, to lose 20 pounds — get back to where I was last year,” she said. “But I would love, love to overall lose 30 [pounds] so I can be into my 130s. I haven’t weighed 130-something since I was 30-something. It’s been years since I’ve felt I was real slim and trim — slim thick, as I like to call it. It’s been a minute and I would just love to see myself get back to that, to my best self.”
