Sebagai salah satu destinasi persinggahan Asia dalam jelajah dunia untuk promosi Titans Of Creation, Testament buat julung kalinya akan menemui peminat metal tempatan pada 30 September 2023 di Zepp Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Bintang.

Testament yang berasal dari Berkeley, California merupakan tunjang penting arena thrash metal Bay Area sekitar 1980-an. Ditubuhkan pada tahun 1983, band ini kini dianggotai oleh pemain gitar irama Eric Peterson, vokalis Chuck Billy, pemain gitar utama Alex Skolnick, pemain gitar bass Steve Di Girgio dan pemain dram Chris Dovas. Semenjak penubuhan, Testament telah melalui pelbagai pertukaran ahli dan Peterson adalah satu-satunya ahli asal yang kekal.

Testament terkenal sebagai salah satu kumpulan paling popular dan berpengaruh yang memimpin kumpulan gelombang kedua thrash metal. Tergolong dalam ‘6 Nama Besar’ thrash metal selain Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax dan Exodus, lebih 14 juta salinan album mereka telah terjual di seluruh dunia, dengan lebih 1.4 juta di Amerika Syarikat. Testament and Sepultura add joint Singapore show to Asia tour dates

They will also be joined by Japan's Hell Freezes Over

American thrash metal veterans Testament and Brazilian metal icons Sepultura have announced a joint concert in Singapore this September.

Singaporean concert promoter Street Noise SG announced the joint concert on social media earlier this week, dubbing it ‘Titans Unleashed’. The concert will also feature a performance from Japanese metal outfit Hell Freezes Over.

The concert is set to take place on September 28 at the Singtel Waterfront Theatre, Esplanade from 6pm onwards.

It will mark the first time that all three bands have performed in Singapore. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here .

The show will also be the only time that Testament and Sepultura perform together as part of their separate Asia tours this year. Check out their list of shows below.

I’ve been lucky enough to see Exodus before, back in 2016, when I lived in Manchester. This is my first time seeing the mighty Testament live though, and I couldn’t be more excited. Its also my first time seeing Death Angel live who are a perfect opener for such a bill.

, I was just in time to catch Death Angel’s first song. Somehow, I managed to get a good spot with a good view, only a few places from the stage slightly to the left of the venue, stage right.

Death Angel’s setlist was mostly a mix of tunes from their modern post-reunion albums. I only own one studio and one live album from the modern era so far, so it was a bit unfamiliar with the material they chose. They only played two and a half songs from the classic first three albums (‘Voracious Souls’ and a little bit of the title track from their debut album The Ultra-Violence and then the classic opener ‘Seemingly Endless Time’ from their masterpiece Act III). Nevertheless I had a great time.

Death Angel call for blood, and you’ve not spilled enough!

Their performance was great. Tracks like ‘Thrown To The Wolves’ and especially ‘The Dream Calls For Blood’ sounded really powerful and energetic live. There wasn’t much of a stage show, but they really didn’t need it. They really got the crowd gonig with their enthusiasm and crowd ineraction.

There were sections of people throughout the room singing every word and most of the crowd were thrashing like a maniac, so to speak. It was a perfect way to start the evening.

The sound was really well mixed. y. You could hear everything perfectly but it still had a real crunchy, aggressive power.

Next came Exodus. Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza is still fronting the band. Its nice to see some line-up stability, as there was a lot of upheaval over the years. Tonight was my first time seeing them with main guitarist Gary Holt in the band. Last time I saw them, Garry wasn’t there as he was busy touring with Slayer at the time, following the untimely passing of Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman. Tonight he played a little snippet of ‘Raining Blood’ and Zetro quipped about how he could do it legally now due to having been in Slayer.

Holt and Altus

When I saw Exodus last time, their performance was great live. I remember writing at the time that if you get the chance to see them, no matter how high up or low down on the bill they are, you really must take it. They aren’t a nostalgia act, they’ve still got the fire in their eyes. This time however, they were even bloody better! They were utterly amazing. On fire. In the zone. Blistering. Whatever you want to call it, they tore the venue a new one. What a difference a Holt makes, am I right?

Zetro made a big speech about how Holt was back and how we were all lucky to catch him on his first UK date back in the fold, and by god was he right. The energy, chemistry and indescribable x-factor going on made the performance utterly captivating. Zetro made a few speechs that night, including one about Bay Area Thrash that really locked into my old teenage love of Thrash and made me smile like a goon.

Exodus’ set was more balanced between their modern and classic material than Death Angel’s had been. They didn’t have enoguh time to cover ever single album, but they hit all the key periods. There were a few tracks from their Paul Baloff-fronted debut Bonded By Blood, a few from the Souza-fronted ‘80s albums (my favourite era of the band), a few from the Souza-fronted modern albums and even one from the Rob Dukes era.

It is nice that they mix the setlist up. Last time I saw them, they didn’t play ‘Deliver Us To Evil’ or ‘Fabulous Disaster’ for example. Last time I saw them, they played ‘The Ballad Of Leonard And Charles’ from the Dukes era, and this time they played the cleverly titled ‘Deathamphetamine.’ I love how this band play material from all eras.

The band were tight, the sound was great again and they played some of my favourite songs (I was so happy to hear ‘Fabulous Disaster’ and ‘Black List’). What a brilliant time. If the night ended here, I would have been utterly satisfied.

Finally came the headliner, Testament.

Testament were great live too. Their sound was a bit more restrained and less savage than it had been for Death Angel or especially Exodus. Furthermore; Gene ‘The Atomic Clock’ Hoglan’s drumming is mechanical and perfect, compared to Tom Hunting’s crazed and exciting beast-man drumming style. This made for a nice contrast, and was suited for Testament’s more melodic parts, even if it was a little less pulverising in the heavy parts than Exodus had been.

What they lost in savagery however, they made up for in professionalism. Compared to the other two bands, Testament got more time and more of a stage show, with an hour-and-a-half set. Clearly the headliners then!

They had banners, smoke cannons, lazers and a much more colourful light show. The banners changed depending on what album they were focusing on. They had raised points for the guitarists to climb on during solos. Eric Peterson in particular was really impressive. Many of the solos I always thought were Alex from the newer records, were actually Eric. Live, he delivers them with such flare and precision it was a joy to watch.

Speaking of joy, how much fun singer Chuck Billy has. The man looks like being in Testament is his dream come true and that he’s having the best time in the world. His huge smiles as he plays air guitar on his mic stand, and air drums in sync with all the cymbal catches are so infectious. I feel like he is Testament’s number one fan and his joyous enthusiasm is such fun to behold.

I was really satisfied with Testament’s choices tonight. Their set list was a real mix as well, not just all old not all new. They covered early stuff, mid-period-stuff, and even a brand-new song from the as yet unreleased next album.

They also played a few songs from their most recent album, The Brotherhood Of The Snake which I’ve been meaning to review for ages now, but spoilers, they managed to play the best two songs from it! Huzzah! Combined with many of my favourite tunes like ‘Practice What You Preach,’ ‘Over The Wall,’ ‘The Preacher’ and ‘Into The Pit’ I was pretty chuffed.

Overall, this night was a thrash fan’s dream night if ever there was one. Once again, if it had just been Testament and Death Angel, I would have been wholly satisfied. However; given the utterly perfect set from Exodus, this was a whole other level of good.

They are a Definite band just see it put on a great show even for an opener I would for sure go see them again. The opening of their set was awesome! The entire show was just a mind blowing experience for me and I’m glad I got too see Testament and Lamb of god and Anthrax and of course Slayer. I would advise anyone that is thinking of seeing Testament love to go and see them. You won’t be disappointed.

Huge Testament fan, so I'm always hyped to see them. A great performance with high energy as usual.Only problem was with it being a festival,they were forced into a short set.You wouldn't have known it from the show as they performed like a headliner! I consider Eric and the band very under rated for the genre IMHO. I've been around awhile and grateful that they are still thrashing like 30 years ago. Saw them earlier at a HOB headline and I recommend seeing them while you can. Hell of a ride guys! Thanks!

Rev Dr Lim Kar Yong

Currently, a Lecturer of New Testament Studies and Director of Postgraduate Studies at Seminari Theoloji Malaysia (an ecumenical theological college training pastors and scholars for Christian ministry), Kar Yong is  passionate about the New Testament – its theological, cultural, and social contexts.  Kar Yong enjoys teaching, researching and providing guidance to students in this fascinating area of academic discipline, and at the same time, translating research into accessible Christian education seminars and lectures for the benefit of the church. Kar Yong has consulted on many of the New Testament itineraries and on several occasions can be found playing the role of Spiritual Director on some trips too!  When he’s not conducting a lecture, he can be found in the kitchen cooking up some Kelantanese delights!

Rev Dr Paul Barker

Between 2009 and 2016, Bishop Paul Barker was a visiting scholar in South and Southeast Asia, and attached to Seminari Theologi Malaysia (STM).  During this time he collaborated often with World Discovery Travel on a number of both Old Testament and New Testament itineraries to bring the Bible to life for Christians.  Paul is an avid traveller and passionate about bringing scripture to life.  He has led pilgrimages and study tours to the Holyland, Egypt, Turkey and Greece with World Discovery Travel.  Currently he is enjoying being based in one of the World’s most liveable cities – Melbourne, where he is serving as Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Melbourne and is dearly missed by many of his Asian students!

Dr Anthony Loke

Dr Anthony Loke was the former Dean of Studies in STM from 2009 – 2010 and 2013 – 2015. He received his PhD in Old Testament from the University of Wales in 2011. He has published various articles and books and currently lectures and teaches Hebrew online. Known affectionately as ‘Rabbi’ to his students, Dr Anthony has been regularly conducting pilgrimages to the Holyland since 2005 with World Discovery Travel. A charismatic and engaging leader who loves singing, he frequently uploads photos of his cat, motorcycle and favourite foods.

Inbam Solomon (Founder of Christian Tours Department)

Inbam Solomon is the heart of the team. She has a deep desire to fulfil the dream of Christians in making a pilgrimage to the Holyland possible. She had the vision to grow a special request tour in 1997 into an active business unit of the World Discovery Travel portfolio. The company is now synonymous with quality Christian tours to the Holyland, Turkey, Greece and Italy. Having lead the first group to Jerusalem back in 1997, she continues to accompany pilgrim groups and thrives on the testimonies of those who have shared their pilgrimage with her. When Inbam is not on tour or in the office, she enjoys spending time with her family and five dogs, and spends weekends doing the church flowers.

Helina Solomon

Helina has inherited her mother’s enthusiasm and exuberance for life! She is actively engaged in our itinerary planning and product development. When she isn’t planning a tour, she is planning a Sunday school lesson for young children or scouting craft items for the class. You can also find Helina consulting on aspects of retail therapy during tours! 😉

Sheila David

Sheila, who heads the Christian Tours Department has been with World Discovery Travel since 2012. She also leads groups to Holyland, Turkey 7 Churches and Greece when required. She is soft spoken and loves making new acquaintances and some later become good friends. Seeing members of our groups experiencing Christ is the joy and satisfaction of the job. Sheila is also actively involved in the Women’s Ministries in St Paul’s Anglican Church Petaling Jaya.

Andrew Jacob

Andrew is in his 6th year as a tour consultant with the company, doubling up as a tour manager when called upon. An extrovert at heart, he is an avid traveller and loves good food! Andrew is also a worship leader and plays the guitar by ear. You may recognise Andrew from your local pub or a recent wedding as he a gifted singer who takes on gigs from time to time!

The document should clearly outline how the testator wishes their assets, including properties, investments, bank accounts, and personal belongings, to be distributed among the beneficiaries. Specific bequests, such as sentimental items or charitable donations, should be included as well.

4. Appointment of Guardians

5. By not having this document, individuals relinquish the opportunity to have control over their assets, potentially causing difficulties and disputes among family members and beneficiaries.

Yes, it can be challenged or contested in Malaysia under certain circumstances. The Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 provides provisions for contesting a will in the civil courts. Some common grounds for challenging a testament include allegations of lack of testamentary capacity, undue influence, fraud, forgery, or improper execution of the will. Interested parties, such as beneficiaries or individuals who would have had an interest in the estate had the will been declared invalid, may file a legal claim to challenge the testament. To amend it, the testator may execute a new will that expressly revokes the previous will and includes the desired changes. Last will and testament: what you need to know

In 2017, I had my first will professionally written. It felt surreal to be presented with the physical document, knowing that when it is finally opened and read, I would have crossed the rainbow bridge. However, upon revisiting the document some years later, I realized that some of the clauses were not suitable. This was due to my prior unfamiliarity with how things work, which caused me to give incomplete instructions.

Will system in Malaysia

Before delving into today’s topic, it’s important to provide an explanation of the will system in Malaysia. The Distribution Act 1958 outlines how assets are to be distributed in the event of an individual’s passing if they don’t have a will. This act applies only to non-Muslims living in West Malaysia and Sarawak. Muslims, on the other hand, are subject to the Syariah Law when it comes to asset distribution.

It can take a long time to distribute someone’s estate if they haven’t left a will and an inventory of their assets and liabilities. Creating an inventory is crucial as it saves the executor from spending time searching for assets such as cash held in Malaysian bank accounts.

When you create a will, it is important to ensure that it is done properly. To be legally valid, the will must be written down with at least two witnesses who are not beneficiaries. You also need to be 18 years of age or older and of sound mind when creating the will.

A will remains valid until it is replaced or revoked by a new will. Additionally, if you get married, remarried, or convert to Islam, your will becomes invalid. It is recommended that you create a new will in case of a divorce. For more information on wills and inheritance, please refer to the links below.

When someone passes away, their estate must go through a legal process called probate before their assets can be distributed. The executor named in the will is responsible for applying to the High Court to obtain a grant of probate. This person can be an individual or a trustee services provider.

Once the grant of probate is obtained, the executor can administer the assets and distribute them according to the wishes outlined in the will. Before property ownership can be transferred to the beneficiaries, any liabilities must be settled. The assets are held by the executor in trust until the distribution is complete. It’s important to note that an executor must be at least 18 years old, and a beneficiary can also be the executor.

A non-person, such as a company or association, can be a beneficiary, and an executor, like a trustee services provider, can also be a non-person.

The estate (the deceased’s assets) will need to go through the probate process with or without a will. Without a will, they will remain with the Malaysian government until someone claims them. If no one does that, they will remain with the government.

Remember to fill out the nomination forms to name your beneficiaries if you have purchased insurance. You can submit the form and have an insurance company personnel witness the form. This will allow the insurance company to pay the beneficiaries directly without going through probate. Foregoing the nomination forms and naming the beneficiaries in the will is not recommended. To avoid potential disputes, do not have beneficiaries in the will that differ from the nomination forms. If you need to change the beneficiaries, please do so through the nomination forms.

A trustee service provider has advised that when insurance policies become part of your estate, they may be subject to probate and creditors could potentially contest and claim the payout. This also applies to money held in an Employee Pension Fund. To ensure that your desired beneficiaries receive the funds, you should nominate them in the nomination form.

If you have assigned your insurance policy to a financial institution via a deed of assignment to cover a loan, the insurance payout would be to the financial institution. This means the policyholder cannot do a separate nomination form to grant the balance of the payout after settling the loan to the beneficiary. The financial institution would hold the balance that it is assigned to — and go through probate for distribution following the Distribution Act if there is no will or as per wishes stated if there is a will. Please check this with your financial institution and insurance provider.

Joint bank accounts

Joint accounts can have both benefits and drawbacks. It’s important to keep in mind that some banks, including private banking accounts, may have a “survivorship clause” when creating a joint account or loan. This clause means that if one of the joint account holders passes away, the other person will become the sole owner of the account and will have the right to withdraw all the funds from it.

It has been advised by a legal expert that a will which designates another beneficiary to receive the deceased’s share cannot override the survivorship clause of the bank. Therefore, it is recommended that you should obtain written confirmation from your bank regarding how your will shall be implemented in such a scenario. Several trustee service providers have received conflicting responses from different banks pertaining to the execution of a will. Hence, it is essential to take this step.

In cases where a survivorship clause is absent, the joint account holder who survives can usually withdraw their share of the account balance, but only if they comply with the account agreement’s specific terms and conditions. On the other hand, the bank will hold the share of the account belonging to the deceased until a grant of probate is issued. To obtain further information, it is advisable to consult your bank and carefully review the account agreement.

If you have a joint account with someone else and the arrangement is “either to sign”, the other account holder is legally allowed to withdraw all the funds, including your share, before your death. However, if you do not want the other account holder to have your share of the funds, it is important that you make your intentions clear. Failing to do so could potentially leave your dependents in a vulnerable situation.

A standard clause in a will is usually included to grant the surviving joint holder the share of the deceased. However, in case there are joint accounts with people other than the dependants, the will should clearly specify that the deceased’s share will be passed on to their dependants and not the joint account holder.

To ensure that your dependents receive your money after your death, it is recommended that you refrain from opening joint accounts with survivorship clauses or “either to sign” agreements with anyone. This can help avoid disagreements and legal proceedings, especially for spouses and dependents.

Power of Attorney

Generally, a power of attorney (POA) does not supersede a will. These two documents are independent of one another. A POA ends upon the death of the person who grants it (donor), and the will takes over. However, if the POA granted is given for valuable consideration and stated as irrevocable, the donor cannot cancel it, and it continues to stay in power after the donor’s death (Section 6, Power of Attorney Act 1949).

Although the person given the POA (donee) cannot alter the will and does not become the owner of the donor’s properties, he/she can transfer ownership of the property or sell it if the POA grants him that scope. You may want to seek legal counsel if the donee can change the ownership of the assets specified in the will.

As the name implies, a POA gives the donee power to manage the donor’s assets. On behalf of the donor, the donee can make decisions on their properties. This power is normally given to trusted close family members when the donor is dying or becoming mentally incapacitated. It’s important to have a conversation with your children about your will, especially if they are minors. They should be informed about who to contact and where the will is located. After consulting with trustee service provider, I have some reservations about leaving children’s inheritance to family members or relatives. This is not because of a lack of trust but because I feel that managing the inheritance could create tension between family members and relatives.

Additionally, children may feel uncomfortable speaking up to a family member if they disagree with how their inheritance is being handled. Unfortunately, there have been cases where family members or relatives have attempted to destroy a will because they don’t agree with its terms.

Recommendations

In case your situation is complicated, it’s advisable to seek advice from a legal professional. Once you have a clear understanding of the applicable legalities, it’s essential to be decisive about who will benefit from your estate in the following scenarios: if you pass away, if both you and your spouse pass away, or if you, your spouse, and children pass away. If you have children, it’s crucial to plan an immediate solution for them in case of your and your spouse’s passing. Ensure that they know what to do.
