While our testers appreciated the number of features, they were also somewhat overwhelmed. They noted needing the instruction manual to help fully understand how to pack it properly. They were also frustrated with how tough it was to unlock and access items. "Once the bag is locked, it's not easy to access it, which is great to prevent theft, but not ideal for the bag owner who may want easy access," a tester noted. "There are many options to expand and compress the bag to your packing style, but the anti-theft features make the bag a bit frustrating to use," another said.

It's made with a 100 percent recycled 40-denier nylon canvas shell, and our testers reported being able to fit at least a week's worth of clothes and items in it. For comfort, we put the full backpacks on and carried them around our lab until they became uncomfortable or we got tired. We also assessed comfort-boosting features including chest and waist straps. For anti-theft testing, we took a box cutter and made an initial quick swipe to see how well the pack withstood this kind of attack. Then we spent more time thoroughly trying to cut into each bag. We also considered hidden compartments and locking zippers and how well they worked.

We did not test for RFID-blocking material as it's been well-documented that this feature is somewhat redundant, but many of the products on this list advertise this capability.

What to Look For in an Anti-Theft Backpack

While the size of the bag you carry will ultimately depend on your needs, an excellent guideline for travelers to stick to is that it should fit within the carry-on size restrictions of most major U.S. or international airlines (depending on where you’re going). That said, getting a bag that fits your purpose is vital: If you want to keep your laptop secure at the gym, you will not require the same capacity you might if you're planning to pack all your belongings for a week-long trip.

We’re a fan of waterproof (or at least water-resistant) materials when it comes to backpacks—after all, you’re going to so much trouble to protect your gear with these anti-theft measures, so why compromise when it comes to keeping them out of the rain? These days, many backpacks are made from durable nylon or vegan leather that keeps the rain away from your laptops and devices (not to mention the clothes you’re packing, too). Look for recycled materials for an extra eco-bonus—they’re just as durable these days as freshly produced ones.

The devil (or maybe angel) is in the details when it comes to anti-theft features. Look for secure pockets, zippers with locking components, and cut-resistant straps or frames. We also like clever placement for pockets—say, one for your passport or laptop located on the back of the bag rather than the front. Some bags go the extra mile and have cables to secure your bag to a fixed point, too, so you can hook it up and not have to worry about someone grabbing your bag at a restaurant and running off.

How much you travel and use the bag will determine your spending on this—if you live in a city known for petty crime, this might be your everyday carry and, therefore, an investment in protecting yourself and your gear. If you want a bag for travel but don’t travel often, some great budget options (even under $40) make for a tremendous one-off purchase that comes with peace of mind.

Follow the manufacturer’s directions on how to clean your anti-theft backpack—each model is made of different fabrics and might have delicate coatings, such as a durable water repellent (DWR). If you need to wash your bag and there are no specific instructions, it’s generally OK to take a damp, soft cloth with mild detergent and spot-clean wherever there’s dirt or dust.

Each anti-theft backpack has its own unique design, but in broad terms, they have special features meant to deter thieves from stealing your belongings. Think of zippers with integrated locks that make opening the bag harder for a would-be nabber—and give you more time to see or feel them trying to get in. Other standard security features on anti-theft backpacks include hidden passport pockets, slash-proof materials, and zippers that open on the side closest to your body rather than on the front.

This is a  high-end backpack with a high-end price tag . However, I’d say that the price is justified because this backpack has a lot of different anti-theft technologies incorporated into it. In terms of design, the Pacsafe backpack is made of 100% polyester  on the outside and features  nylon lining . It’s available in  4 colors  – Charcoal and Navy, Tweed & Black.

This backpack has  6 different anti-theft features , and I’d say that it’s the most secure one, out of all the backpacks in this review. First, there is  the eXomesh slash guard , which will protect your belongings in case someone tries to cut them open with a knife.

Second, there is the  Roobar anti-theft anchor lock , which allows multiple compartments to be locked together. It also allows you to secure your backpack to a pole, for example, and no one apart from you would be able to detach it from the pole.

In addition to that, one interior pocket of the Pacsafe features  RFIDSafe fabric – so it is definitely classified as an RFID backpack . This fabric obstructs all transmissions between 10 MHz to 3 GHz. Those frequencies are usually used to read ID cards, e-passports, and credit cards, and so this fabric will also protect you from any tech-savvy thieves that want to rob you electronically.

This is the backpack that you can leave unattended for some time, and come back to find intact. Another great anti-theft feature is the design of smart zippers – they have zip sliders that are meant to overlap so that you can secure them with a padlock . However, if you want to try out this feature, you’ll have to get the padlock separately.

In terms of other features, there is a  dedicated laptop compartment  inside, as well as a  dedicated tablet compartment . The main compartment is also quite roomy, and you could fit a lot of things in the 20-30L capacity of the security backpack.

Lewis N. Clark Locking Day Pack

The Lewis N. Clark lockable backpack is the ideal anti-theft daypack if you are on a budget and just need a simple bag. It is the lightest and cheapest backpack on this list but still has enough features to be usable.

Starting at the top, I found their simple 3-digit lock on the rolltop strap to be a great way to keep your things secure. And if you know roll tops like I do, then you know opening them is not fast anyway, so thieves will have a hard time getting to your stuff.

The rest of the lightweight anti-theft backpack is quite simple, with a front organisational pocket and a decent-sized side water bottle pocket. If you are like me and always have water with you, this pocket is a must.

The back panel is well-padded, along with the shoulder straps. And although there is no hip belt strap to enable you to carry heavy loads, there is a sternum strap. This helps keep the shoulder straps comfy and in place.

All in all, if you just want something that keeps your gear secure for a commute or while you sit in a public place, then this locking backpack will meet the brief and it is affordable too.

This is a great backpack for travel . It’s large enough to fit everything you’d need on a short trip, and still small enough that you can use it as a carry-on backpack when you’re flying somewhere . It’s made from water-resistant Polyester material , and it features a padded and ventilated back panel .

The main anti-theft feature is a combination lock for the main compartment. So, all your valuables and laptop or iPad are safe and sound no matter where you are traveling or sitting. And there is a hidden pocket on the bottom at the back, so you can stash your most important documents or passport there.

It is great that you can actually choose between multiple sizes for this backpack. That means. you can choose the one that is large enough for your laptop. They have packs that fit 15″, 17″, and 18″ laptops!

How is it theft-proof? The back 15.6″ laptop pocket is lockable with a cable lock. So there is no way anyone can steal your computer. And the two hidden credit card pockets are RFID blocking for extra security

The organisational features impressed our reviewers. They said that “ you can never lose a thing in this comfy travel backpack” . Starting with the back area for your laptop, huge main compartment with a spot for your table too. Oscaurt Anti-theft Travel Backpack

The Oscaurt bag is another super-affordable anti-theft backpack with a very modern design. You will either love the look of it or hate it. It is made of water-resistant PCVC polyester , with a padded back panel. Inside the backpack, there are several pockets, one of which is specifically designed for your laptop  (up to 15.6”).

If you love organization, this pack is smart, with the tilting backpanel to access the inside. But I am not a fan. I find it complex and all the pockets, although they have a purpose, limit the packing space, as I mentioned.

Of course, there are  a few external pockets on this backpack. There is the main one on the front, which is designed to be slim and not easy to access (against thieves I guess!). And there are semi-hidden side pockets for the usual – water, umbrella, etc.

This tilting design is also part of the security of the pack as the zipper runs around the back and is then hidden by a fold of the material. Not a bad idea, but certainly not as great as a Travelon or Pacsafe pack.

Other cool features of this anti-theft backpack include a  USB port that connects to your battery which is in a dedicated pocket on the inside (of course, there are lots of dedicated pockets :>). 

All in all, not a bad pack if you like organization and a little security, along with a super modern design. However, I would go for something else on this list.

AMBOR Business Laptop Backpack

The AMBOR backpack is made of eco-friendly waterproof nylon , and you can get it in  2 colors , Grey and Black. It is also very lightweight and durable, and therefore a great choice for travelers, but also for students.

Additionally, there is a dedicated laptop pocket  (up to 15.6” laptop) in the main compartment – another very convenient feature for both travel and school.

This waterproof anti-theft backpack features a combination lock  that can fully secure the main compartment, but not the exterior pocket.

The original combination is 000, and you should immediately change it . You can do that quite easily; press the button of the lock, and then set the combination to whatever you like. Once you have done that, release the button and rotate the numbers again, and you’re done.

Both a headphone jack and a USB port are included in this backpack . A USB cable is also included in the purchase, but a power bank is not.

As for the other features, there are several pockets in the roomy main compartment – for your accessories, glasses, phone, etc.

Additionally, there are also  several different pockets in the exterior compartment , but just keep in mind that it can’t be locked. Therefore, I’d say that the exterior compartment is great for any items that are not really valuable (financially), such as pens, notebooks, water bottles…

Overall, this is perhaps the best anti-theft backpack for students because it combines low cost with functionality.

Pacsafe Metrosafe Anti-Theft Sling Backpack

The Metrosafe is a great small anti-theft backpack . It’s made from  cut-proof materials (steel mesh), and it has lockable zippers . In addition to that, you’ll also find  an RFID safe pocket  in this pack, which can hold your ID and credit cards.

The backpack features  a main compartment and a front pocket . The  main compartment is roomy and features a padded tablet sleeve . It has lockable zippers, which you can secure with a padlock (not included in the purchase).

The front pocket is zippered and it also features lockable pullers. But the star of this pocket is  the organizer panel,  with  slip pockets for your phone, pen holders, a key clip, and a padded sleeve that fits a 7” tablet . Oh and a zippered mesh pocket on the lid.

The  downside to Metrosafe is its size . Even though it has two padded sleeves, only the one in the main compartment can fit a regular-sized tablet. The sleeve in the front pocket can fit a 7” device – a tablet or one of the newer smartphones.

But  you won’t be able to fit a laptop in this pack.  Maybe you can squeeze in an 11” baby, but anything larger is out of the question. Therefore, this backpack is only good for people who have smaller devices, or who are used to working on their tablets.

Also, this is a sling anti-theft bag, and not everyone will like that. But that’s another anti-theft feature –  the turn & lock security hooks ensure that this thing stays on your body until you decide to take it off.

Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Backpack

If you want high-end protection at an affordable price, this is a very safe backpack to get. It’s made by Travelon – a high-end brand that specializes in making safe, anti-slash backpacks and travel bags.

And this particular slash-proof backpack has several anti-theft features. It is mostly made from s lash-resistant mesh, which includes shoulder straps. Additionally, you get RFID-safe slip pockets inside the front pocket, that will protect you from identity thieves. And on top of all that, the secure pack also features locking zippers and lock-down straps.

But this backpack is not just safe. It is also  very stylish  and  great for organization.  It features  an organizer and a key clip in the front compartment, multiple pockets and a sleeve in the main compartment, and two side pockets.

Only one side pocket is zippered and completely safe. The other one is a slip pocket, so it’s best for holding a water bottle or a small umbrella. And you don’t have to worry about your belongings inside getting wet, thanks to the water-resistant materials.

But it has a downside –  you can’t really fit a laptop in this backpack . The sleeve in the main compartment is large enough to fit an iPad, but it’s not padded. Therefore, the impact resistance of the pack is not that great.

It’s not the best backpack out of the bunch. But you can get it for under $50, which kind of makes up for the features it lacks. At least for me.

XD Design Bobby Elle Anti-Theft Backpack

This one is for all the ladies who want a stylish and safe backpack. Yes, it’s possible to have both – the Bobby Elle pack is very stylish, but it’s also one of the safest backpacks in this review.

However, it does have a hefty price tag. So, definitely not a great option if you’re looking for something affordable.

This anti-theft backpack for ladies has the features to justify that price. For one thing, i t’s made from (expensive) cut-resistant and water-resistant faux leather . It also has  no access points on the front – all the fun is in the back . Kind of like a mullet.

So, the zipper to the main compartment is all the way in the back. There’s also a small zippered pocket on the bottom of the backpack, as well as an additional pocket on the backpanel.

The main compartment is rather spacious. It has  a padded tablet sleeve (fits 9.7” devices),  and several zippered and slips pockets. You can actually fit quite a lot of stuff inside this backpack, even though it doesn’t look like it. And that’s one of my favorite things about it.

The  shoulder straps are a bit of a downside, though. They’re very thin and feature belt-buckle adjustment points.  Definitely not as functional or comfortable as plain padded shoulder straps. But remarkably stylish, for sure.

NOMATIC Anti-Theft Backpack

If you’re looking for  a truly premium option , then this is the backpack for you. The Nomatic backpack is as expensive as it looks – but for a damn good reason.

The backpack is made from coated nylon and polyester water-resistant materials. Its anti-theft features include a locked RFID-safe internal pocket, ideal for passports and credit cards and a hidden compartment.

The Nomatic features  expandable capacity, a laptop sleeve that fits 16” laptops, a tablet sleeve , a retractable key leash, a padded back panel, a sternum strap, a removable hip belt, and a cord pass-through.

There are  two side pockets on this backpac k, which are designed to hold water bottles. But  they are magnetic – they snap pack into place when empty, for a sleeker look.

Another thing I have to mention is that you get a case for your sunglasses when you buy this pack. It’s a hardshell case, which features a removable (softshell) sleeve inside.

Here’s the downside – although this bag has lots of packing options, a big compartment when expanded and quite premium materials, this is not the safest backpack you can get. However, it is the best edc backpack with some great anti-theft features.

Kopack Anti-Theft Backpack

The Kopack is a  good affordable option.  It’s not too expensive, and it has some really cool features. The  exterior of this slash-proof backpack is also waterproof , and the bag has hidden zippers and lockable zipper pullers .  However, they aren’t interlocking, meaning  you will need a padlock  to secure the opening of the main compartment.

This pack also features  two rear hidden pockets , which are great for all the items you want to keep very safe. And it has  a padded and ventilated back panel , for your carrying comfort. This makes it a great backpack for the warmer months since the ventilation ensures you won’t sweat too much while you are wearing it.

Additionally,  it is also a TSA-friendly backpack. It has a 90-180 degree opening, which exposes your laptop immediately . Pretty useful for getting through TSA checkpoints fast.

But what I like the most about the Kopack is t he shock-proof padding of the laptop sleeve.  It will protect your (17”) device in case of a nasty fall or a bump, which is rather useful.

One thing to note is that  this backpack is available in two sizes.  I’ve listed the dimensions for  the larger one, which can fit 17” laptops. The smaller backpack can fit 15.6” devices at most , and it’s recommended for smaller people.

Choosing An Anti-Theft Backpack

There are lots of different types of anti-theft backpacks. So, you need to know what anti-theft properties you’re looking for – do you prioritize RFID blocking materials or anti-slash fabrics?

RFID Blocking Fabric

We live in the age of technology, and boy has it evolved – both for the better and for the worse. Nowadays,  people can steal your personal information from several feet away – and you won’t even know it happened until they start racking up the charges on your credit cards.

The best way to prevent this from happening is to get yourself  a bag with RFID blocking properties . RFID safe materials are usually made with some sort of metals – nickel, copper, etc. They kind of create a Faraday cage of sorts, which  shields the content of the pockets from external electric fields.  

Some backpacks in this review feature RFID-safe pockets. These are designed to hold your credit cards, passport, ID – anything that could be scanned from afar. So, when you keep these items in an RFID safe pocket, you are safe from identity thieves.

If you don’t particularly like any of the backpacks that feature RFID-safe pockets, you can always go for an RFID-blocking wallet . Which you can carry in any (anti-theft) backpack you want. Be sure to check out our review of the Trayvax wallets , to find a sturdy and safe option.

Hidden Zippers & Lockable Pullers

You will also see  a few backpacks that appear to have no zippers when you first look at them . That’s because the zipper and the pullers are hidden away – usually, they are positioned on the backpanel.

That way,  when you’re wearing the backpack, no one can actually open it.  This is a useful feature, but one that works best when combined with other anti-theft features – like slash-proof fabrics.

Or lockable pullers.  You will see these in a lot of backpacks in this review, especially the high-end ones.  Pacsafe in particular likes to make the pullers on their backpacks lockable.

So, a backpack will usually have two pullers for the main compartment, which can be locked together with a padlock.  In some cases, the pullers are interlockable, and there is also an additional lock on the backpack , which you can use to further secure the pullers.

That way, a thief would have to go through two levels of security and pick a lock to get to your personal belongings. Do you think they could get away with it before you notice there’s a weirdo behind you trying to tamper with your pack?

Anti-Slash Fabrics

Anti-slash fabrics are frequently used in these backpacks, especially the pricier ones.

Basically, these are f abrics that you cannot cut through.  No matter how hard you try, no matter what object you use, you won’t be able to cut through the material of the pack.

Obviously,  a backpack is not considered to be safe or anti-theft only because it’s made from anti-slash materials. But, if these materials are combined with other features, like a lock or a hidden zipper, then we’re talking about a good and secure backpack.

However, these fabrics are not really cheap, so you won’t see them too often in affordable anti-theft backpacks. If you want this particular feature, you will need to spend a bit more money and go for a high-end option.

Which Anti-Theft Backpack Is The Best For Me?

Not quite sure which of these backpacks is the best option for you? Here are our top choices! The Pacsafe Metrosafe is probably the most secure backpack you can buy . It is made from  cut-proof fabrics, it features lockable zippers and it has an RFID safe pocket inside . All of your personal belongings will be safe from thieves, and you will always have peace of mind with the Metrosafe.

However, it’s a rather small backpack, and you can’t fit a laptop  in it. Therefore, this is the best fit for people who are used to working on tablets.

On top of all that,  this can fit a 17” laptop  and is small enough to be allowed inside an airplane cabin.

With one of the busiest summer travel seasons upon us, be aware of your surroundings and select a few travel accessories that will give you an extra layer of protection — and peace of mind — as you travel the globe.

Here are several TPG-approved anti-theft crossbody bags, backpacks and accessories to slow down and stop thieves from taking your personal items.

Crossbody bags

Security experts say that crossbody handbags are a good bet since you can easily keep an eye on your belongings. With these bags, your items are safely secured to the front of you or your side via bag straps that go all the way around your body. The design is both practical and comfortable, stopping passersby from yanking your bag off your shoulder or out of your hand as you're out and about for hours on end.

To find the right crossbody bag for protecting your items, look for a bag that has a wire threaded through the straps (so they can't easily be cut) and a steel mesh liner between layers of fabric (so the bag is slash-proof). I've had it for about a year now and really like it for specific uses: transiting through an airport when I'm also wearing a backpack, visiting a museum where larger bags are not permitted, heading to dinner and going on a half-day tour that doesn't require lugging bigger items.

While this bag, which measures 8.5 inches by 7 inches by 2 inches, can fit the items I always have on me — two pairs of glasses, my iPhone, a Vera Bradley ID/card wallet, two passports, keys, a pen and a pill case — it won't accommodate much more. Still, it has all the important anti-theft features to look for, including slash-proof steel mesh sandwiched between the fabric layers, a locking main compartment zipper and a cut-proof, wire-reinforced strap that has a locking carabiner so you can thread your bag through a post, chair or table leg to prevent someone from snatching it while passing by.

On the outside, you'll find a front flap with a magnetic snap closure. I usually stash any sightseeing tickets or papers I need in there so they're easy to access. Behind the front flap sits a slip-in pocket that comfortably fits an iPhone. Inside the bag, you'll notice a main compartment with three RFID-blocking credit card slots and a passport pocket. Additionally, there are an internal zippered pocket and an attached key ring loop with an LED. The latter comes in handy for securing items like my pill case.

If you're nimble with good dexterity, this shouldn't be a problem, though the extra effort required to open the zippers may make them difficult for those with arthritis or other hand-related health issues.

This basic bag has all the necessary components for everyday use including comfortable padded straps, a large main compartment, and a helpful front zippered pocket for smaller items. There is a solid amount of space for storing bulkier items like a water bottle or a lightweight jacket, or you can easily pack it full of smaller items like pens or snacks with plenty of room left over. The polyester material is fairly thin, which means you’ll want to be careful if you’re traveling with a tablet or other fragile items, but the fabric is very lightweight. We love the padded and adjustable straps that make the pack easy to toss onto your shoulders and plenty comfortable. This is one of the smallest mini backpacks we tested.

It’s not always easy to stay organized on the go but thanks to the plethora of pockets built into the Aotian Mini Nylon Backpack, it’s easier than ever to find a spot for everything. There are three different-sized compartments for storing a variety of everyday essentials. Working back to front, the largest compartment can hold bigger items (like a tablet up to 10 inches long) in a handy slip pocket and the middle compartment is best for medium-sized items like a wallet, deodorant, or charger. Although the front pocket is the smallest, it’s ideal for miniature items including lip balm or a roll-on perfume stick. The straps are made out of sturdy nylon fabric and they can quickly be adjusted while you head out the door. This was one of the smallest backpacks we tried but it still packs a punch with a generous capacity, durable nylon exterior, and polyester lining that showed no signs of damage after a lab test and real-world testing.

Other Mini Backpacks We Liked

Of the 21 mini backpacks we tested, the ones below almost made our list but they ultimately fell short during testing due to slight issues with comfort, durability, and capacity.

Itzy Ritzy Mini Diaper Bag : This spacious bag has stylish gold hardware and it’s functional for being out of the house with kids thanks to the removable changing pad. However, the straps aren’t very comfortable due to a lack of padding and metal buckles that rest awkwardly on the chest when adjusted.

Adidas Linear Mini Backpack : This sporty bag is very lightweight and comfortable to wear, making it the perfect pack for the gym but the other athletic and outdoorsy bags we tested had a few more pockets for organization. 

Herschel Supply Co. Mini Backpack : This compact backpack is a very cute style and shape, with plenty of color options to choose from. However, the front pocket zipper is covered by a security flap that makes it too difficult to get things in and out of an already very small pocket.

Carhartt Mini Backpack : Spacious and super durable, this canvas Carhartt mini pack certainly lives up to the brand’s reputation for durability and ruggedness. However, the straps are made out of nylon without any padding so they weren’t the most comfortable, and we wish there were a few more pockets for storage. 

T+L researched and identified 21 mini backpacks in a variety of shapes and sizes (all miniature, of course) and began by testing each pack in our New York City lab. Then, we sent the backpacks out into the world for further evaluation in everyday settings like running errands, commuting, and traveling via airplane, train, or car.

In the lab, we examined the design of each pack by looking at every pocket, zipper, and buckle to get a feel for the materials. Then, we loaded up the bags with essentials like wallets, lip balms, keys, small water bottles, extra shirts, and hand sanitizer to judge the capacity. At the end of lab testing, we tossed the packs off of a counter to see how durable they were, and if the contents packed inside remained safe while being tossed around.

While lab testing was helpful to take a magnifying glass to each pack, we continued using the mini backpacks in day-to-day life to get the most well-rounded testing notes. We used the bags for gym visits, grocery store trips, flights, and more to continue judging the comfort, durability, design, and capacity. After all of the testing was complete, the backpacks noted as having generous padding for comfort, spacious interiors that are intuitive to pack, and durable materials that will stand the test of time earned the highest average scores overall.

Tips for Buying a Mini Backpack

Look for pockets for organization.

One of the best things about a mini backpack is that it should provide a bit more space and storage solutions than a purse. To stay naturally organized while out and about, look for a bag with multiple compartments, interior pockets, and exterior pockets, too. If you like to travel with a tablet or laptop, search for a small backpack with a sleeve that will fit the dimensions of your device.

Padding equals more comfort

Mini backpacks are generally lighter in weight due to their smaller size (which helps when wearing the bag for long periods of time), but the best way to prioritize comfort is by investing in a pack with lots of padding. The back panel and straps should have cushioned or thick fabric to prevent digging in and other discomfort. In addition, more padding can also protect the contents of your bag from being damaged in case of falls or rough handling.

The typical size of a regular backpack is about 20 to 25 liters so anything less than 20 liters is on the smaller side. In general, a mini backpack will have a capacity of 8 to 16 liters with most sitting at around 12 liters. The typical dimensions of a mini backpack will be near 12 x 10 x 5 inches, give or take a few inches.

Mini backpacks might surprise you with the amount they can hold. While it ultimately depends on the capacity and dimensions of your specific backpack, you should have no issues fitting essentials like a wallet, lip balm, earbuds, a phone charger, and keys. Other larger items you may be able to fit include a tablet, small laptop, lightweight jacket, and a water bottle.

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd. 

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that. 

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role. 

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
