Awesome concert!! Scott sounds great! The band kicked ass! My husband and I were really impressed and my husband has never really been a Creed fan. He kept commenting on how good Scott and the band sounded. I have been a fan of Creed/Scott Stapp for over 20 years. I always wanted to see Creed in concert but never had the chance before they disbanded. I felt kinda cheated that I wasn’t going to have a chance to see Creed in concert. I can say after seeing Scott in concert I no longer feel that way. I will always be a fan of Scott’s music because I love his voice and music, and after seeing him interact with the audience, I feel he is a awesome human being as well. I would recommend seeing Scott Stapp in concert, you won’t be disappointed!!

He was awesome! We got to listen to all new music as well as the best Creed songs.

Scott Stapp has the same awesome voice he always did but his attitude seems to be as much better human being. He talks and shares about the place he is right now and I was very happy to see him in such a good place.

He is super energetic and an amazing artist!

That man consume there’s no doubt in my mind I wish people would get his true message. I wish she would have spoke more about his life. Put God in a little bit more would’ve been great but the man can sing and there is no doubt about it while I go to another show maybe maybe not

SCOTT STAPP Announces March 2024 'Higher Power' Solo Tour Dates

CREED singer Scott Stapp has announced the first leg of the "Higher Power" tour, a run of intimate theater dates to celebrate the release of his fourth solo album, "Higher Power" . The shows will take place a month before CREED reunites for the first time in over a decade.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, January 19 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

"Higher Power" tour dates:

March 10 - Ponte Vedra Beach, FL @ Ponte Vedra Concert Hall March 12 - Charleston, SC @ Charleston Music Hall March 14 - Chattanooga, TN @ The Signal March 15 - Asheville, NC @ The Orange Peel March 18 - Nashville, IN @ Brown County Music Center March 19 - Milwaukee, WI @ Turner Hall Ballroom March 21 - Omaha, NE @ Steelhouse Omaha March 22 - Clear Lake, IA @ Surf Ballroom

"Higher Power" will arrive on March 15, 2024 via Napalm Records .

Stapp 's upcoming ten-track triumph turns the rockers experiences on the razors edge into an acknowledgement of grace.

When hard-hitting single "Higher Power" debuted in August, Loudwire stated that Stapp is "primed for a big decade, sounding just as powerful as he did at half his age with a sense of newfound heaviness resting beneath his iconic voice." Now, mid-tempo anthem "What I Deserve" addresses the inherent duality within relationships and smolders with the blistering yet delicate guitar work of multi-award-winning guitar great Yiannis Papadopoulos .

Stapp says: "We all want back what we give. 'What I Deserve' is about two people understanding who they are individually and coming to a place where they can express exactly what they each want, need, and deserve. The duality in the song is that both sides are expressing the same thing and coming to an understanding of the faults of the other. This song pleads both guilty and innocent with Yiannis guitar solo being the voice that articulates a chaotic search for deliverance and the epic release of passionate closure."

"Higher Power" follows 2019's "The Space Between The Shadows" , which debuted at No. 3 on the U.S. Current Rock Albums chart, the U.S. Current Hard Music Albums chart, and the U.K. Rock and Metal Chart, among countless other top chart positions.

On an album that traverses themes of loss, frustration, betrayal and near defeat, "Higher Power" features standout performances by hard rock queen Dorothy on a deeply raw duet and, throughout the album, Papadopoulos guitar leads and solos are such invaluable contributions that he is credited as a featured artist on three tracks. There is also a co-writing appearance by multi- Grammy Award -winning songwriter and musician Steve McEwan on "Higher Power" , which was produced by Marti Frederiksen and Scott Stevens , with co-production by Stapp .

Stapp explains: " 'Higher Power' was born out of never-ending consequences with triggered, yet naive defiance. It's the realities and realizations of being human in this experiment we call life — holding on to hope in the dark waiting for the light."

One of the most iconic voices in rock, Stapp first emerged as the high-energy, post-grunge frontman of CREED . With anthems like "Higher" , "My Own Prison" , "My Sacrifice" and "With Arms Wide Open" , the band sold over 50 million albums, including a diamond certification. Throughout the early 2000s, CREED broke airplay records, sold out arenas, earned countless Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards , and a Grammy for "Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group". As a solo artist, Stapp has released the platinum-certified "The Great Divide" (2005), "Proof Of Life" (2013) which featured his first solo No. 1, "Slow Suicide" , and 2019's "The Space Between The Shadows" . In April 2024, Stapp will reunite with his CREED bandmates for the first time in a decade, as he returns in fighting form and stands as an inspiration to others who are struggling.

Stapp went through a highly publicized, drug-inflamed meltdown in 2014, after which he entered into an intensive rehab program. Stapp also lost custody of his three children during this period, while also missing a court hearing and allegedly threatening to kill then-president Obama .

After completing rehab, Scott spent the following year in intensive therapy. Although he was initially diagnosed with bipolar disorder, it was later determined that it was severe depression that led to addiction. Now nine years sober, Stapp spoke to Men's Health about health and fitness in 2019 when his comeback album was released, saying, "I hate to use the word, but I guess it has become my new addiction."

Scott Stapp and Creed Are Back and Ready to Go Higher

The singer and late-nineties icon talks candidly about rock-star partying, faith, the journey to sobriety, a new solo record, and his band’s undeniable “Creedsurgence”

a person with a cigarette in the mouth

There are certain people who will declare that a particular experience “opened up a Pandora’s box,” then pause thoughtfully and add “if you will.” If you know Scott Stapp’s work, you know Scott Stapp is one of these people. He is, as he has forever been, serious and sincere to the absolute max, in a way that makes you wonder why sincerious isn’t a word. Just as he was at the Y2K peak of his once-and-sort-of-future band Creed, Stapp in 2024 is both grandiose and grateful, with an evolved rock star’s proprietary mixture of humility and hubris. “By no means does rock ’n’ roll need a savior,” he says, in response to my not having asked him whether rock ’n’ roll needed a savior, “but with this record, I’m just looking for my place.”

Creed’s first three albums— My Own Prison, Human Clay, and Weathered —are among the biggest-selling rock records of the record industry’s biggest-selling years. By 2000, the band was on the cover of Spin, Stapp front and center, shirtless and in a truly unprecedented state of oiled-the-fuck-upness. At the turn of the millennium, they were all over MTV and VH1 and mainstream rock radio. The video for “With Arms Wide Open” featured Stapp, with jacket wide open, striking a messianic pose on the top of a mountain. Their Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game halftime show from 2001—all fist pumps and benevolent-rock-god poses from Stapp, surrounded by some kind of Up With People situation—belongs in the Louvre.

text

The national appetite for sinceriousness diminished greatly in the early aughts, as the Strokes and Interpol and Meet Me in the Bathroom crowd got all the attention. At the same time, the intra-Creed dynamics turned toxic and the substances took over. It got ugly, in ways we don’t need to dwell on.

But now it’s 2024. In addition to Higher Power, Stapp and the original lineup of Creed have a reunion tour ahead of them. There are no plans for new Creed music at this time, but this April there will be a Creed Cruise—two of them, actually, both sold out—so it seems that anything is possible. Things feel different now. When I found out I’d be speaking with Scott Stapp, I told approximately everyone I’d ever met, and roughly half of them said something along the lines of “I’ve actually been listening to a lot of Creed lately.” Excited about him always. But also, always with the actually .

So let’s go there. I spoke with Scott Stapp over Zoom as he prepared to take a long walk in a park near his Nashville home. He was in his car, in a parking spot, his youngest child’s Spider-Man car seat visible over his right shoulder. This conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

SCOTT STAPP: Dave, you like the Spider-Man car seat in the back?

ESQUIRE: I do love that you have Spider-Man in the car with you. That must make you feel very secure.

SS: Spider-Man travels with me everywhere I go.

ESQ: Higher Power comes out March 15. You’re in the time after it’s out of your hands but before it’s in the world. How does that feel for you?

SS: It’s a different experience this time, in that by the time the album comes out, five songs off the record will already be out to the public. It’s not a big surprise, as it was back in the day, where fans had only heard one or two songs by the time the record came out. There are songs that I’m excited for fans to hear so they can put the pieces of the puzzle together. This album is a narrative to be listened to from beginning to end.

a man with tattoos holding a guitar

ESQ: What’s the narrative of this one?

SS: Well, I’ll tell you, it starts with a journey of trying to reconnect to my higher power, whom I call God. Navigating this new way of life in sobriety and realizing that everything in my life stays together, contingent upon the shape of my spiritual condition. I was going through a lot in my life during the making of this record, and I’m gonna leave that up for interpretation. It’s still being played out. I’m still living it, and I haven’t reached the last two songs yet. A lot of times on these records, I’ll take the snapshots of where I’m at as I’m going through this process, and then I’ll write about where I want to end up, not where I’m at.

ESQ: Do you feel like your albums are understood the way that you intend?

SS: I know there is a core group of die-hard fans who know what I do and how I do it. They’ve caught on. But as a whole, especially in today’s music climate, people cherry-pick songs that they connect with, whether it just be a fun song or they’re going through a struggle in their life and the song encourages them. That’s the power and the beauty of music. The collective consciousness of the human experience is what I hope to encapsulate on every record.

ESQ: The theme of recovery runs through Higher Power. Does being so publicly sober add a layer of difficulty to sobriety itself?

SS: I think it’s good to share the journey that I’m trying to live. I’m not perfect on that journey. I take it one day at a time, and I’ll take ten steps forward and then one step back, and then I’ll take another ten steps forward. But having the sobriety that I’ve had during that last ten years has radically changed my life. It’s continuing to help me reconnect with parts of me that I’ve been disconnected from since I was a child. It’s also kind of opened up a Pandora’s box, if you will.

Parts of me were emotionally stunted due to the years of the partying lifestyle. Getting sober is just the tip of the iceberg. Catching up on all the years you lost is the real journey.

a group of people posing for the camera

ESQ: Is it true that Eric Clapton and Steven Tyler were sort of your recovery sherpas?

SS: Yeah. Steven Tyler in 2010, when I started this journey—and again, like I told you, I’ve had many, many slips since—he called me nearly every day for about a month when I was in treatment at Betty Ford. And then Eric Clapton was gracious enough to allow me to stay at one of his facilities in Florida during another stage in the recovery process. I never spoke with him personally, but he made sure that I had the extra care and attention that I needed.

ESQ: Getting back to Higher Power, the music industry is very different from what it was during those first three Creed albums, when albums were like blockbuster films. What does success look like to you now?

SS: I’ve already succeeded in one regard: completing this record and getting it out to the world. So on one level, I feel complete. What happens after that, I can’t control. But after it’s out, if songs on that record are connecting with people in a substantial way? That’s what I do this for.

At some point, there is a part of you that wants the powers that be to finally get you. If that never happens, it never happens. But if that did happen on this record, that would be a third layer of success. I only experienced that kind of success early in my career, on My Own Prison and the first half of the Human Clay record.

ESQ: And then what happened?

SS: Well, the narrative shifted. The whole trying to pigeonhole us as Christian rock changed the narrative of the band. We went from being on the covers of magazines, being deemed the saviors of rock ’n’ roll, and then the next thing you know, the media had declared us the enemy of the state.

My first solo record went platinum, and it did get a lot of attention, but since then, my records have not gotten the exposure that I had hoped they would get. So I’m hoping that this record gets the exposure that I feel at this point, thirty years in, that I can humbly say that I think I’ve earned.

ESQ: Why do you think you guys specifically were so pigeonholed? You weren’t the only band that was wrestling with spiritual themes in its lyrics.

SS: I was pretty straightforward in my lyrics, in terms of what I believed in. And at the time, that wasn’t considered cool in the rock ’n’ roll community and on secular rock radio. Everything’s changed since then. There are many bands of faith that have tremendous success at mainstream rock formats. People are not defining and pigeonholing and putting music in niches just because of the writer’s personal beliefs. They’re just letting the music be music. And if it’s rock, they’re putting it out as rock. Skillet is a good example of that. P.O.D. has been a good example of that. Even Nicki Minaj has been straightforward and loud about her faith.

ESQ: But even at the time, P.O.D. didn’t get dinged for it. Jars of Clay didn’t. It seems like you in particular got a lot of flak.

SS: You know, it is what it is. But it seems that we’ve outlasted that. Creed’s music is having this resurgence on a global level, so I’m grateful and thankful for that. It’s all water under the bridge, and here we are today talking about Higher Power and what’s on this record.

ESQ: When did you notice Creed’s music coming back into the zeitgeist?

SS: It probably started during Covid, but I was more tuned in to my kids than paying attention to what was going on in the world. But in early 2021, it just started happening. And thank goodness that we’re not somewhere over the rainbow, that we’re here today and I’m talking to you and I’ve got a new album called Higher Power and I’m getting ready to go on tour and go on a Creed tour. I’m just grateful.

ESQ: What do your kids listen to?

SS: Oh man, my daughter’s into everything. Right now she’s a musician. She plays piano, guitar, drums, and she records. She’s recently gone through her Metallica phase, where she’s learned all the Metallica riffs, and then she’s playing scales, then she went on to Nirvana. She’s already learned the Creed songs, or a bunch of them. And then she’s also into a lot of the pop artists. Not only does she like rock and metal, she likes what any seventeen-year-old girl would like, from Taylor Swift to, what’s her name, Sia?

a group of people on a stage

SS: SZA. From SZA to Taylor Swift and everything in between. And the same with my son. Last night, my son, I guess, stumbled across, or maybe I stumbled across on my phone, an article on SZA and me. And I said, “Son, do you know who this is?” And he goes, “Yeah, I do. I listen to her.” I was like, “Oh, I guess she’s talking about your dad.” He was like, “Really?” It was a cool moment where I got to experience that with my son. Now my little Anthony, he loves his daddy’s music. He wants to get in the car when he’s with me and he wants to hear all the heaviest songs.

ESQ: What was the first music that you listened to that made you want to perform?

SS: I always have to give credit to Def Leppard for the moment that I said, “That’s exactly what I wanna do.” When I saw “Photograph” come on MTV, and saw the video and heard the sound, and I was like, “I wanna be in a rock band, and I wanna have that guy’s life.” But what really had an impact on me prior to that was Neil Diamond. “America” was the song that we would listen to at my buddy’s house over and over again.

ESQ: Creed’s moment in the late nineties and early aughts was right at the time when everything was supposed to be a little bit ironic. I think how a person feels about you and your voice reflects how they feel about sincerity. When I told people I was interviewing you, a lot of them said, “I have been listening to him a lot lately,” which you know is true. And one of those people said, “He’s like the Ted Lasso of rock.” There is something that is sincere and hopeful and honest and unironic that the world kind of needs right now. There’s not really a question there. I’m just wondering if that resonates.

SS: When I create, I’m not trying to be anything other than who I am and express honestly what’s going on inside of me at that time. So it feels good to hear you say that, because that’s at the core of who I am as an artist.

ESQ: You’re touring behind Higher Power, and then there are two Creed Cruises. What’s new about your tour routine now that you’re fifty?

SS: I rest a lot more. I give my body its downtime in order for it to have what it needs to deliver what I deliver onstage.

ESQ: What’s a pleasant surprise about being fifty?

SS: Aside from the occasional aches and pains, I still feel like I’m thirty-five. It’s not what I thought fifty was. Even though I have a five-month-old grandson, fifty doesn’t look like I thought fifty was going to look at all. I realize there’s so much more life ahead of me. You know, just like I say on [Creed’s 1999 song] “Are You Ready?”—“your life has just begun.”

ESQ: What would you tell the younger version of yourself?

SS: Life’s not a party. You know? When you’re doing a show, the people that are there to watch you are coming to have a good time and party. But that’s your job. You need to limit your good times and your blowing off steam and your unwinding to times when you’re not working. There would be a lot of things I would tell young Scott. Have thicker skin; don’t take things so personally. Understand the tongue-in-cheek. And, you know, react and live outside of your emotions. It’s a good place to be when you’re creating, so use it there. But in terms of interpersonal relationships or in terms of just our conversation today, no matter what you ask me, don’t ever respond or react out of emotion. Respond with reason and logic. And I think that promotes longevity in so many areas of your life.

ESQ: Would he have listened?

SS: Man, if Bono told me—you know what I mean? If someone that I had put on such a huge pedestal and had such a dynamic impact on my life had sat me down and given me the dad talk and maybe even had to follow up a few times, possibly. I don’t know, but possibly.

Stapp’s fourth solo LP,  Higher Power , arrives on March 15 thought Napalm Records. Stapp previously revealed the lead single, “What I Deserve , ” which features an appearance by award-winning guitar great, Yiannis Papadopoulos. The album’s title tracked followed.

“We all want back what we give,” Stapp says. “‘What I Deserve’ is about two people understanding who they are individually and coming to a place where they can express exactly what they each want, need, and deserve. How Creed's Scott Stapp Is Still 'Holding on to Hope' with New Music After a 'Difficult Period' (Exclusive)

The rocker opens up to PEOPLE about his new album 'Higher Power,' a powerful meditation on his highs and lows

scott stapp tour uk

There’s a line in Scott Stapp ’s new song, the acoustic duet “If These Walls Could Talk,” where the Creed frontman sings about having to live, having to learn and having to "burn it all down."

"I had to get lost to get found," Stapp sings on the track, which features rocker Dorothy Martin.

The lyrics are hardly a stretch. Stapp — sober after a challenging road that included substance abuse issues — is back with a new solo record, one that lays bare his tough journey.

“I’ve gone through a pretty difficult period in life over the last four years,” he tells PEOPLE on a recent Zoom call from his home outside of Nashville. “I’m hanging in there — just one hour at a time, one thing at a time. Taking little bites of the elephant and then just waking up again and doing it all over the next day. A lot going on, but all good stuff.”

Sebastian Smith

Stapp, 50, will release his new album Higher Power on Friday, just one month before he’s set to reunite with Creed for the first time in 12 years. The “Higher” band will embark on a pair of cruise festivals this summer, and its members join forces for a larger tour in the fall, a reunion Stapp likens to the comfort of finding and wearing an old baseball glove from childhood.

“I feel compelled to create. It’s who I am,” he says. “So if I’m not doing it with Creed, there’s a void. I have to do it. There’s stuff in me as an artist and as a creative that I have to get out. Music is my method of doing that.”

Over the 10 moving tracks on Higher Power , Stapp invites listeners into his private world. On songs like “Dancing in the Rain,” he muses on having made peace with his lot in life — though Stapp says the music is aspirational, and not necessarily reflective of his current headspace.

“That song is really about trying to find happiness and peace and joy amidst the pain, amidst the discomfort, amidst the struggles,” he says. “That song is really about where I’m wanting to get to, not where I’m at. It’s just that holding on to hope, even if you don’t feel it, knowing that it’s out there and just reaching for it. I’m trying to get there.”

Raised in a strict religious home in Florida, Stapp has long struggled to keep his demons at bay, even as he rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s as Creed's frontman over the band's four albums. He’s relied on his faith for decades, and says he first developed a relationship with God when he was 9 years old, and looked to the skies in search of a father figure.

“I didn’t have a dad, and I wanted one so bad. I was sad and just a little boy, alone with a single mom who didn’t come home until late,” he says. “And here we are today, with the highs and the lows and the journey that I’ve been on in my life. As long as I can keep centered in my faith and keep that as the center point in my life, things go right. Sometimes I kick myself and I say, ‘Man, why couldn’t I have figured this out earlier?’”

His lack of a father has also influenced the way he’s approached parenthood; Stapp calls his four children his “purpose” in life. (He and wife Jaclyn, 43, are parents to daughter Milan, 17, and sons Daniel, 13, and Anthony, 6, while Stapp is also dad to son Jagger, 25, with ex-wife Hillaree Burns).

When Stapp relapsed in 2014, it was Jaclyn who stepped in to get him help. Stapp previously told PEOPLE the realization he needed help came after Jaclyn texted him Christmas photos of their children. He ultimately received treatment for drug and alcohol abuse at a clinic in Malibu.

Though he’d found an answer to his problems, Stapp still feared the stigmas associated with mental illnesses He has since learned that being open with his struggles is a help, and not a hindrance, a topic he explores on the song “Weight of the World.”

“It’s still a challenge, because I think it goes against my nature — I was always alone as a child, and alone when I was going through things,” he says. “It seems a lot of men feel that they’ve got to be strong, they’ve got to keep it together no matter what, and they just suffer in silence."

Stapp continued, "It’s hard to pick up that phone and reach out and say, ‘Hey, I am struggling. I need somebody right now.’ That’s something that really, really hindered me when I first started trying to get sober in 2008. I would never pick up the phone. I was white-knuckling it and just for some reason, the phone was 10,000 pounds.”

As Stapp continues on his recovery journey, he’s no longer afraid to reach out for help, but concedes it’s still something he needs to learn to do more. “It’s definitely something that I would encourage anybody out there who’s going through anything… You don’t have to do it alone,” he says.

He’s also confident he has the tools to stay healthy, especially as he heads out on the road with Creed. Stapp says he’s had “sober tours” for over a decade, joking that anyone who joins him knows it’s “Disney World backstage.”

Then there’s the support of his loved ones. “I never had a family like this. They’ve really demonstrated to me what a family is all about, and having each other’s back and sticking together. I’ve got to see what a real family is in action, and hopefully we’ll be able to carry that forward no matter how the story unfolds,” he says.

“Relationships teach you a lot of things, good and bad, and I’ve learned that no matter how they resolve or how they continue, that each stage in each season of the relationship is most definitely a learning experience," adds Stapp. "You have to look back at it as such, no matter what. Reframing it no matter the circumstances precipitates growth and helps you become a better human being and a better partner.”

SCOTT STAPP Announces March 2024 'Higher Power' Solo Tour Dates

January 17, 2024

CREED singer Scott Stapp has announced the first leg of the "Higher Power" tour, a run of intimate theater dates to celebrate the release of his fourth solo album, "Higher Power" . The shows will take place a month before CREED reunites for the first time in over a decade.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, January 19 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

SCOTT STAPP Postpones European Tour

Grammy winning songwriter, solo artist, and voice of Creed, Scott Stapp, has announced the postponement of his long awaited European tour, which was scheduled to take place this October/November. Due to the ongoing global pandemic, the tour is now being pushed to early 2022, kicking of in Leeds, UK on February 10.

Stapp recently released a highly-charged lyric video for “World I Used To Know”. A fan favorite from Stapp’s comeback album, its personal lyrics and angst-ridden riffs cut deep, as arguments and unrest populate headlines and divide households.

The empowering, propulsive track is an observational critique that intentionally raises important questions as it seeks to be saved from “tomorrow’s sins.”

Stapp elaborates, “We’re all wondering what’s next and hoping we can quickly get back to the world we knew just seven months ago. As we mask up and maintain distance, it’s more important than ever to use your voice constructively. Your vote is your voice.”

Originally written in 2018 by Stapp, “World I Used To Know” is the opening track on The Space Between The Shadows, which debuted atop Rock and Album Charts in the US and UK in July 2019. Stapp’s first solo album in six years explores themes of rising above internal and external struggles.

Review by Ritchie Birnie for MPM

Grammy winner Scott Stapp is back with his fourth album and it is an emotionally driven work of art.

The album opens with the title track and it is a monster. The album opens and closes with positive notes where as the remainder is retrospective and will drain your emotional intelligence just like Scott has poured his heart and soul across this recording.

We have furious guitars, brutal drums and Scott laying down the blueprint for his vocals…sheer perfection. This is an uplifting number the likes that Creed excelled at. An incredible opening.

The furious pace continues on “Deadman’s Trigger”. The nu metal guitar sound is only quieted by Stapp’s powerful vocals. The song is as catchy as hell and is an instant arena filler. Two songs in and any worry that I had that previous album The Space Between the Shadows was impossible to follow are swept aside.

“When Love is Not Enough” starts very ethereally, slow and focused. It shows the quality of production and the lyrics are Stamped with Scott’s insight, pain and understanding. This is a rock song of the highest caliber.

What I Deserve” is a game changer, I loved this album from start to finish but this one is just on a pinnacle. A slow burner, a shout for mercy, the scream of a desperate person at the very bottom of the barrel. This song is the choice that no one wants to make. It is the desperation to find answers.

This song could be classed as a power ballad but that does not come close. You hang on every word. The song is so well written you feel the pain inside yourself and when the guitar wizard Yiannis Papadopoulos rips out one of the best solos I have heard in years he managed to take all the emotion and wring it out of his fretboard. This is sheer class.

After such an amazing track I was not expecting to be left covered in goosebumps and breathless but that is how “If These Walls Could Talk” left me.

This song effected me so much I played it again and again and I sat down and thought about that title. How many times in your life have you heard that phrase? It is a passing statement but after you have heard this track you will have a new understanding on what it can mean. The story that plays out will be ingrained in you. Another phrase you hear is don’t put me down till you walk a mile in my shoes and boy does Scott put you in his shoes.

The effect on me was so strong it took me back through my life and I realised I can tell my own story as I moved out of a very unhappy home at 17. I could not wait to leave, I left all the memories behind without a thought but when I left the flat I had bought when 17 I was last to leave the house. I walked through the rooms, I relived the good and far less bad and without thinking I have done that in every house since.

So strong the impact this song had on me it brought this all flooding back and I have a song so beautiful and powerful to reflect on this forever, never to forget again. The song was also reinforced through the addition of singer Dorothy. She is phenomenal on this song and the two voices worked so well together.

I admit Dorothy was unknown to me but after listening to the whole album here I searched her out on youtube and she is the real deal and she is also an emotionally driven songwriter. The first track I played was “Rest in Peace” and that is very, very powerful and hit a very sweet spot with me.

After being emotionally ripped apart with two slower tracks it was time to lift the spirit with “Black Butterfly” and this is a track laden with anthemic riffs, power and bombast. The breakdown is sheer genius.

The opening of “Quicksand” is metal heaven and then Scott steps in with those vocal lisps that only he does. They are over accentuated and this will be one of those songs that you can only sing the same way he does with a smile on your face.

This song just shows how incredible a songwriter this man is, another Yiannis solo obviously also helps.

“You’re not Alone” HAS to be a single. This is a song that I swear will save lives. The despairing, lonely and lost will cling to this beautiful number like a drowning person holding onto a lifebuoy.

You know this was Scott speaking to himself at his lowest ebb and I am so glad that the answers he found brought him back to help himself heal, to help others and to bring forth magnificent memories like this. Make no doubt about it these are not songs, they are memories.

Just quiet guitar and floating keys start “Dancing in the Rain” and this is definitely for the Creed crowd. Another deep and powerful track that shines throughout.

The album closes as it started, with hope on “Weight of the World”. Musically it is very simple but with Scott’s voice and message the song soars…like a weight has been lifted and you can carry on.

Higher Power is a masterpiece, Take all of Scott Stapp’s previous work and this for me sits atop. This is a mans journey, a mans pain laid bare but embraced in the flaws that saw him reach those depths along with all the bad breaks.

It is well known Scott is a man of faith and the fact that this broken man picked himself up, brushed himself down and became the man, musician and guiding light he is today may very well be proof there is a higher power.

The Grand Tour star forced to axe his own TV show after 4 years

Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May

James May has become the victim of his own success and has been forced to axe his TV show.

In Oh Cook! James documented his journey as his cooking skills went from abysmal to satisfactory, and finally, pretty damn good.

The two series of the Amazon Prime Video show have made the The Grand Tour star an accomplished cook in four short years.

The whole concept of Oh Cook!, which was a play on his famous catchphrase – Oh c**k, was James, 61, receiving tutition as he is hopeless with an oven.

At first, he tried to get a grip on the basics including lasagne, fish pie, and a full Sunday roast for the whole crew’s lunch was his final hurdle in the first offering. Having gained his confidence in the kitchen, for the second season he tried his hand at Japanese food, vegan delights, and even made dishes for a 70s themed-party.

Off the back of the programme, the TV star even released a cookbook, which has become a best-seller.

‘It was a totally fresh concept that viewers lapped up, as usually cooking series are presented by professional chefs,’ a source told The Sun .

‘But after two seasons, James is now quite a good cook, so it’s not a gag he can continue to flog.’

While he may be hanging up his chef hat on TV, it’s not the end of the road with Amazon as he will continue to explore the globe in travelogue James May: Our Main in… He’s already embraced local culture in Japan, Italy and India, and the world is quite literally his Oyster with Amazon budget.

Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.

Of course, there’s the bread and butter – The Grand Tour, which he presents with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.

The former Top Gear hosts have starred on the motoring show since 2016, and their special in Zimbawe is set to air towards the end of this year.

The series will end after the conclusion of the fifth series , but the trio, who’ve worked together since 2002 could be back together once more.

‘I wouldn’t rule it out,’ said James. Although, he quickly added: ‘But you do have to bear in mind that we’re all getting on a bit.’

Metro.co.uk contacted Amazon and James May’s representatives for comment.
