Safari Browser

Safari is a browser for iOS that’s now available for Android. It has most features of the original and functions the same way. You get Dark Mode, Private Browsing, and other minor options. The speed is still there almost no load times between pages.

Security-wise, there’s no way to tell if it retains the level of protection of iOS. The settings are very limited. You have the basic setup like cookies and history management. Nothing your Firefox or Chrome can’t already do. There are no special utilities that entice you to replace your default.

Lightning-fast speed

The best thing about Safari is its speed. It’s lightning-fast. You can say it rivals even Chrome when it comes to loading time. Download time is also great, but not as fast as the iOS version. Switching between pages and tabs are seamless.

The interface is very clean and easy to use. You don’t have that many adjustment options to choose from, but then again, that’s the whole point. The design is to keep things as simple as possible. They may have gotten carried away on simplicity. The Android version doesn’t retain the sophistication of its iOS counterpart.

Too few choices make the whole app look empty and dated.

Doesn’t use many resources

Safari comes in a small size, which makes sense, considering it doesn’t have any plugins. It uses less data than mainstream Android browsers like Firefox and Internet Explorer. The app is also lenient on your RAM. So, you can run more programs alongside it, no problem. Having multiple tabs doesn’t slow down your process, either.

All tabs are interconnected

There are no indications that Safari protects Android users from data collection or malicious sites. It doesn’t handle each tab as a separate instance like Chrome. This means if one tab crashes, so do the others. That says enough about the lack of security. You also don’t have the restore previous session option after a crash.

Other than the built-in Dark Mode, this browser doesn’t offer any other extensions. You can still sync your Google account, but it wouldn’t carry over the addons you had. You will have to use specific plugins for Safari, and there aren’t many of them for this version.

Fast but not secure

The app has good overall qualities and is reliable when it comes to speed. Unfortunately, that’s the extent of its advantages. If all you do is browse the internet, Safari is the way to go.

For more sensitive tasks, stick with your default. There is nothing this browser offers that your main one doesn’t already do. It also doesn’t retain the level of protection that the iOS version has. There’s no guarantee that you’ll be safe as it claims.

  • Switching from iOS

There is no official Safari for Android app, but there are lots of knockoffs in the wild, many of which are scamware. We don't recommend downloading any app that's masquerading as Safari for Android because there are plenty of other well-rated mobile browsers available.

Should You Install Safari on an Android?

The Safari web browser offers tons of features that make surfing the web easier, and it's usually considered superior to other browsers in terms of security, unfortunately, you're not going to find a version of Safari for Android that's sanctioned by Apple. That's because while there are plenty of 'Safari' browsers out there, none of them were created by Apple.

So, the question becomes, should you install one of these Safari files and hope for the best? Probably not, and there are a few reasons for that:

  • Many of the apps that are calling themselves 'Safari for Android' are nothing more than scamware—bits of high-demand software designed to deliver viruses and malware to unsuspecting users.
  • Even 'Safari' apps that are generally considered safe are not from Apple, therefore can have different features and capabilities than the Safari browser you may be used to using on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad.

It's because of this Lifewire recommends you don't download 'Safari for Android.' At best, you're likely to be disappointed by the browser you download, at worse, it could deliver malware to your device that requires loads of time to repair, or worse, it turns your phone into a useless brick.

There are many YouTube videos available that include links to a 'Safari' download file for iOS. There are even versions of Safari APKs available. None of these files are to be trusted. To be clear, there is no official version of Safari Browser for Android . And you should not download Android apps from sites that are unfamiliar. Google Play is always the safest resource for apps.

Alternatives to Safari for Android

So, since there is no Safari for Android, what are your options? There are plenty of Safari-like browsers available. For example, some of the highest rated options include:

  • Opera Browser : Opera is another super fast browser, but it also includes a free VPN that users find useful for getting around geofenced content. It also has a pop-up blocker, but does lack some importing and searching capabilities of other browsers.
  • DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser : Targeting users who are tired of their every move being tracked online, the DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser offers all the features you would expect from a Safari-like browser: speed, security, and privacy. However, customization seems limited, so if you're looking for something that's highly customizable, this might not be the right browser for you.

Although none of these offers all the features of a Safari browser, each has its own strengths, and if you're ready to move away from Google Chrome, or Microsoft Edge, then they're worth your time to try them out. And since they're all free, you're not going to spend anything but time trying to find a Safari-like browser that suits you.

safari for android tablet free download

Safari is a popular web browser developed by Apple for its products such as the iPhone, Mac, and iPad. However, when it comes to Android devices, you may be wondering if it is possible to install the Safari browser on them. Unfortunately, the answer is no.

Apple has never made Safari available for Android, and it is highly unlikely that they will do so in the future. Safari is a proprietary software that is exclusive to Apple devices, and the company has never shown any indication of releasing it for Android.

If you are looking for a web browser for your Android device, there are plenty of alternatives to Safari that are available on the Google Play Store. Popular options include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Microsoft Edge.

These browsers offer similar features and functionality to Safari, such as tabbed browsing, bookmarks, and the ability to save passwords and autofill forms. They are also regularly updated with security patches and performance improvements to ensure a smooth browsing experience.

In addition to these popular browsers, there are also several niche options available on the Google Play Store. These may include browsers that are specifically designed for privacy, speed, or accessibility. While they may not be as well-known as the top browsers, they can still offer a unique and useful experience for users.

In conclusion, if you are an Android user, you cannot install Safari on your device. However, there are plenty of alternatives available that offer similar features and functionality. It is worth exploring different browsers on the Google Play Store to find the one that best suits your needs and preferences.

Brave Private Web Browser on a Google Pixel 6 held in one hand in an office

The default web browser for most Android phones is good ol' reliable Chrome. If you frequently use other Google services like YouTube and Google Drive, it's the natural pick. But you do have other options. Here are the best Android browsers that aren't Chrome!

Brave Privacy Browser

Brave Privacy Browser

Brave Privacy Browser is all about blocking ads and other online trackers while delivering lightning-quick web browsing with a streamlined UI. Not only does Brave aim to improve your web browsing experience by removing ads, but it also has its own method of supporting your favorite online sites through its Basic Attention Token (BAT) as part of its Brave Rewards program that lets you earn and contribute a digital currency to your favorite creators.

Samsung Internet Browser

Samsung Internet Browser

Samsung's default browser for its Galaxy phones is a reliable internet browser that you can download and install on any non-Samsung phone through the Google Play Store. It's super fast and easy to use with a convenient navigation bar at the bottom and includes a host of cool features. You'll find a video assistant that makes watching videos a breeze, a built-in tracking blocker to ensure your browsing is safe and private, and compatibility with third-party ad blockers.

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is an iconic web browser for PC and Mac used by hundreds of millions of people around the world. The Android app delivers most of the features that make the desktop version so accessible along with a very familiar look and feel. You get a customizable homepage that lets you immediately jump into your most visited sites along with all the add-ons, including password managers and ad blockers that make Firefox a joy to use.

Opera

Opera, for a time, was the darling alternative web browser for many thanks to its sleek design and ease of use. It's still pretty great, with a focus on delivering a smart news feed with customizable channels and a built-in VPN for good measure. There's easy to use features such as built-in ad blocking, and a data-saving mode makes for faster browsing on slow networks. You're always able to zoom in on any page, and Opera will intelligently fit the text to your screen with text wrap.

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge

Emerging from the ashes of Internet Explorer is Microsoft Edge. It's nice having the navigation buttons at the bottom, especially using taller screens, making it much easier to open new tabs and quickly add articles to your reading list. But the biggest perk here comes if you're also using Edge on your PC; it anchors the navigation bar so you can easily switch over between browsing on your phone and computer.

Chrome Beta

Chrome Beta

For fans of Chrome who want the latest features, there's a separate app for a beta version. It's where Google will test out the latest features that might be coming to the official app. It's a reliable option for those who enjoy the beta testing process and the occasional bugs that go along with it.

Always remember you've got options

One of the best parts of owning an Android phone is the ability to customize the default apps to fit your needs, so if you've switched from a Samsung phone to a Google Pixel and miss the streamlined functionality of the Samsung Internet Browser, you can download and set Samsung's browser as your default.

I have switched over to Brave as of late because I appreciate the ad and tracker blocker functionality, and I get a kick out of tallying up BATs using the Brave Rewards program. It's still dubious as to whether they hold actual value or not, and I haven't yet used them to contribute to a site I enjoy, but I love the premise.

Beyond Chrome and Brave, I'd have to recommend the Microsoft Edge browser strongly. The last time I used Edge for PC it still wasn't my cup of tea, but Edge for Android works remarkably smoothly and is a solid pick especially if you do use Edge on your computer, as there's excellent back-and-forth integration between the mobile and PC versions.

Most browsers today have variants for desktop and mobile devices alike. A single browser can perform well on one platform and not so well on another, so we’ll see which one is the best browser for Android.

Since the advent of smartphones, web browsers are no longer just for desktop computers. Browsers usually come in multiple forms, with apps for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and sometimes Linux. In this article, we’ll take a look at five browsers and see which is the best browser for Android.

Key Takeaways:

  • The best web browsers can differ in features and quality in various formats.
  • Good Android web browsers should have device sync to keep browsing data between your desktop computer and Android phone consistent.
  • Puffin is both the most secure and the fastest browser for Android.

We’ll evaluate each browser with our usual set of criteria — features, ease of use, speed, privacy and security — but we’ll focus on just the Android version of each. Not all browsers are created equal, as the same browser can excel on one platform and fall short on another.

Out of these five Android browsers, we believe Puffin is the best Android browser. Its innovative “streaming” security model puts its security far ahead of all other browsers, and it’s the fastest Android browser as well. Vivaldi is our all-time favorite browser and earned a spot on this list, but it’s not as well adapted to Android as it is for desktop computers.

Fresh rewrite; removed Tenta, added Vivaldi, added Microsoft Edge to honorable mentions, and updated new features in Puffin.

What Makes the Best Browser for Android Phones & Tablets?

Naturally, good Android browsers need to be available for Android, which means Safari and Internet Explorer are already disqualified.

Check out our online security courses and grab a limited-time offer. Enrollment available now!

Next, we need to evaluate the browser’s suite of features. Device sync is one of the most important features for Android browsers so that users can transfer bookmarks, browsing history, settings and other browser data between devices.

Performance is another major consideration, and so are privacy and security. Strong privacy features keep your data from being collected by third parties or the browser developer itself. Security pertains to the browser’s defenses against external threats like malware and phishing.

  • Puffin — The fastest and most secure Android browser
  • Brave — A fast and private browser with built-in ad blocking
  • Vivaldi — A feature-rich browser that’s great for power users
  • Firefox — Easy to use, private and fast
  • Chrome — User-friendly; comes with Android devices by default

The 5 Best Android Browsers

We put Puffin at the top of the list for having the best security and speed. Brave and Firefox are good runners-up for privacy and security as well. Vivaldi was selected for its customizability and features, and Google Chrome is Android’s default browser.

puffin-android

  • Innovative security model
  • Fastest Android browser
  • Desktop app requires subscription
  • Ads on free mobile version

Puffin’s Android variant is a major advancement from its desktop browser. Puffin is the best all-around web browser for security, but its desktop version suffers from slow speeds and a lack of features. Fortunately, that’s where the Android browser makes a major improvement.

Puffin for Android is significantly faster than its desktop counterpart, and the fastest web browser on this list. It’s already a fast browser with its default settings, but it also includes a data saver mode that compresses web pages and frees up bandwidth for faster speed. There are sliders in the settings menu for adjusting exactly how much you want to compress images and streaming quality.

Puffin gained extra points from us by recently adding a sync feature. Its ranking suffered in past reviews for not having one, but now Puffin for Android is catching up to its feature-rich competitors.

Cloud-Based Security

Puffin’s claim to fame is its innovative security model. All web pages are loaded on the company’s servers and “streamed” to the user’s device. That means malware will never make it to your device if you navigate to a malicious website. The usual criteria for browser security is irrelevant here, which would involve things like safe browsing databases and script blocking.

puffin android

Puffin for Android is a major step up from Puffin for desktop. There’s a lot to cover on this one-of-a-kind browser, so we suggest reading our full Puffin review .

brave mobile

  • Built-in ad-blocker & tracking protection
  • Privacy-based ads
  • Infrequent updates

Brave is a Chromium-based browser with a focus on privacy that frequently makes our “best of” lists. Brave includes a built-in blocker for ads, trackers, device fingerprinting and other privacy-violating practices common on the web. It’s uniformly fast in all of its versions too.

Brave’s sync feature is noteworthy for relying on one-time QR codes instead of an account. That means none of your synced data is associated with your identity, and it’s a simpler method of synchronization too. Brave used to only allow you to sync bookmarks, but now you can sync settings, history, open tabs, extensions and other kinds of browser data.

Built-In Privacy Controls

Brave was designed to be a privacy browser from the beginning. Brave’s ad blocker and pop-up blocker are enabled by default, and it also blocks trackers, device fingerprinting, scripts and cross-site cookies. It offers varying levels of severity for blocking privacy-violating behavior, ranging from moderate blocking to aggressive blocking. The latter can cause some websites to malfunction.

brave browser shields

Privacy is Brave’s specialty, but it ranks highly in all categories of our criteria. Check out our full Brave review for a closer look at this well-regarded privacy browser.

Vivaldi android version

  • Great for power users
  • Customizable
  • User interface is somewhat awkward on mobile

Vivaldi was created with enough built-in features to reduce the need for installing extensions. Its Android variant is no exception to this rule, as it contains a variety of useful tools that can be mixed and matched to your exact preferences.

The Android version is lacking many of the advanced features of the desktop version, but it still includes a wide range of tools and settings.

The Web Browser for Power Users

Vivaldi for Android includes a tab bar at the top of the page — which is unusual for most mobile browsers — and allows you to stack tabs within a single window. There is also a separate panel for taking notes, which are included alongside your bookmarks and search history.

Device sync comes in handy for such a customizable browser. Logging in with your Vivaldi account enables the synchronization of data across devices, including tabs. It can take time to get your personal customization just right, so it’s helpful to keep the same setup on both desktop and Android.

The abundance of customizable features is also its drawback for Android. The interface can get easily crowded with multiple tabs and windows and become awkward to use, whereas its interface is more manageable on a larger desktop monitor. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s less than ideal.

vivaldi tab stacking

This is only a sliver of what Vivaldi can do. Check out our comprehensive Vivaldi review for more detail on its other features.

firefox android add ons

  • Good privacy policy
  • Mobile extensions
  • Not the fastest browser

Mozilla Firefox is the oldest browser on this list and yet it keeps up well with modern browser trends. In fact, Firefox excels as a mobile browser because it’s one of the few that includes extensions.

Only 17 extensions are available for Firefox Android, but most browsers have zero. They include useful tools such as an ad blocker, a password manager, HTTPS Everywhere and more.

Mozilla Firefox includes cross-device synchronization for your settings, history, bookmarks, open tabs and more. Its performance is good enough for fast web browsing, sending emails and streaming HD videos with little to no latency.

Good Privacy Record

Mozilla’s privacy policy makes it one of the best browsers for privacy. It’s a nonprofit company that doesn’t make its money from collecting and selling user data for targeted advertising, unlike Google. Mozilla states that the only data Firefox collects on its users is technical and interaction data that isn’t associated with your name or email address.

mozilla privacy policy

Firefox has a long history behind it, and it’s changed a lot over time. Take a look at our Firefox review for the full picture.

google chrome android

  • Default Android browser
  • User-friendly
  • Not private
  • No extension support

Most Android phones already have Chrome installed as the phone’s default browser, so there’s no need to download it from the Google Play Store. Chrome is a fast and simple browser that all Android users should have an easy time using.

It can do just about everything the desktop version can except install extensions. This is a shame since Google operates the largest collection of extensions in the world. Without extension support, Chrome is somewhat bare, so it falls behind the rest of the browsers on this list when it comes to features.

Sync All Google Account Data

Fortunately, Chrome for Android phones include good cross-device sync capability. On your Android device, sign in to your Google account to unify your bookmarks, history, settings and other data across your devices for a consistent web browsing experience.

Unlike Brave and Firefox, Chrome’s biggest problem is privacy. Google is an advertising company that makes its money by collecting user data for the creation of targeted ads, and Chrome is one of its primary tools for gathering user data. There are ways to limit Google’s data collection practices, as you can read about in our guide on how to erase your Google history .

google chrome sync

If you don’t use Chrome, there’s a good chance you’re using a browser based on its design. You can read our full Chrome review for more information on the world’s most popular browser.

Best Android Browsers: Honorable Mentions

Although these aren’t the best Android browsers ever, they fell just short of our top five. Here are some other Android browsers worth taking a quick look at.

opera speed dial

The Opera browser is a useful Android browser even though it didn’t make the cut. The Opera browser for Android includes a few extra features that would usually be downloaded as extensions for most other browsers, including a built-in VPN, an ad-blocker, a crypto wallet and night mode.

Night mode changes the theme to a dark mode and reduces the amount of blue light from the screen in order to reduce eye strain.

The Opera browser isn’t very private. It collects user data and shares it with third parties, so its private browsing mode won’t be of much help. Furthermore, it was acquired by the Chinese company Qihoo 360 in 2016, raising questions about the potential for surveillance from the Chinese government. Read our full Opera review , Opera vs Chrome and Opera vs Firefox for more information.

Microsoft Edge

edge desktop

Microsoft Edge went through a major overhaul when it was redesigned with Chromium in 2020. That gave it a huge boost in speed and regularly put it in first or second place in most of our speed tests , so we thought it was worth mentioning. Read our Microsoft Edge vs Chrome review to see how the two compare.

Aside from that, Microsoft Edge doesn’t differ too much from Chrome or other Chromium-based browsers. You can read more about it in our full Edge review .

Final Thoughts: Best Android Browsers

There are dozens of Android browsers on the market, but we believe these five are the best Android browsers. Chrome is pre-installed on all Android devices by default, and although it’s a good browser, it’s not the only one.

We think Puffin is the best Android browser because its security and speed are unmatched. Firefox and Brave are great browsers for privacy and security as well. Vivaldi is good for power users, and Chrome is a simple but effective browser for everyday internet use.

Ultimately, your personal needs will determine which of these Android browsers will be the best for you, but hopefully we’ve helped you make an informed decision.

What do you think is the best Android web browser? Do you like fast Android browsers like Puffin, or do you need something as customizable as Vivaldi? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. As always, thank you for reading.

There are many good browsers for Android, but we think the best Android browser is Puffin.

Puffin is the fastest Android browser we’ve come across.

Not only is Puffin the fastest Android browser, but it has the best security protection too.

I’m a bit of a novice but review very helpful

Brave and Firefox are very good choices and Vivaldi’s Android browser has greatly improved since these reviews were posted. However, I would suggest no longer considering Opera since it is funded (if not owned) by a Chinese company.

I would always choose Chrome over any other browser, simply because it’s in the habit now and working with Google apps is so easy there.

Why is Chrome browser still deemed private? It’s owned by Alphabet/Google, the world’s biggest data mining and search engine oligarchy.

Can You Install The Safari Browser On Android?

Published: August 22, 2023

What is Safari Browser?

Safari is a web browser developed by Apple Inc. that is primarily used on Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers. It was first introduced in 2003 and has since become one of the most popular browsers among Apple users.

Known for its sleek design and user-friendly interface, Safari offers a seamless browsing experience with advanced features and robust security measures. It is built on the WebKit engine, which allows for fast page rendering and efficient usage of system resources.

With Safari, users can access a wide range of websites, search the internet, and enjoy various browsing functionalities. It supports features like tabbed browsing, bookmark management, private browsing mode, and customizable settings for a personalized experience.

One of the notable features of Safari is its integration with other Apple devices and services. For example, users can use “Handoff” to seamlessly transition their browsing sessions from one Apple device to another. They can also use Safari to sync bookmarks, history, and other settings across their Apple devices.

Additionally, Safari is known for its strong emphasis on user privacy and security. It includes features like Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which aims to protect users from cross-site tracking and unauthorized data collection. It also offers built-in measures to block malicious websites, warn against potential phishing attempts, and secure user information.

Over the years, Safari has evolved to support advanced web technologies and standards. It offers excellent HTML5 and CSS3 support, enabling users to access and interact with modern web applications and media-rich content.

While Safari has primarily been designed for Apple devices, there has been speculation and demand for a Safari version that can be used on Android devices as well. However, Apple has not developed a official version of Safari for the Android platform, which leads to the question: Can you install the Safari browser on Android?

Different Browser Options for Android

Android users have a wide range of browser options to choose from based on their personal preferences and requirements. While Safari is not officially available for Android, there are several alternative browsers that offer similar functionalities and features. Here are some popular browser options for Android:

  • Google Chrome: As the default browser on most Android devices, Google Chrome is widely used and trusted by millions of users. It offers a clean and intuitive interface, seamless sync with Google services, extensive plugin support, and advanced privacy and security features.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Known for its commitment to user privacy, Mozilla Firefox offers a fast and customizable browsing experience. It comes with features like enhanced tracking protection, private browsing mode, and support for add-ons. Firefox also supports a wide range of web standards and offers excellent performance on Android devices.
  • Opera: Opera is a feature-rich browser that focuses on speed, data savings, and a user-friendly interface. It comes with integrated ad-blocking, built-in VPN functionality, and a unique “Flow” feature for seamless integration with other devices. Opera also offers a battery-saving mode and video pop-out feature for an enhanced browsing experience.
  • Brave Browser: Brave Browser is known for its privacy-centric approach and built-in ad-blocking capabilities. It prioritizes user privacy by blocking trackers and ads, resulting in faster page loads and reduced data usage. Brave also rewards users for opting into privacy-respecting ads with its Basic Attention Token (BAT) system.
  • Microsoft Edge: Formerly known as “Microsoft Internet Explorer” and later “Microsoft Edge,” this browser is now available for Android devices. It offers a clean and modern interface, seamless integration with Windows devices, support for extensions, and features like reading mode and tracking prevention.

These are just a few examples of the many browser options available for Android users. Each browser has its own unique set of features, performance characteristics, and user interfaces. It’s essential to explore and experiment with different browsers to find the one that best suits your needs and preferences.

Is Safari Browser Available for Android?

No, Safari browser is not officially available for Android devices. Apple has chosen to keep Safari exclusive to their own ecosystem, meaning it is only accessible on Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers.

While Apple has developed versions of some of its popular applications for Android, such as Apple Music and Apple TV, Safari remains an exception. Apple’s decision to keep Safari exclusive to its own devices is likely due to the company’s desire to tightly integrate its hardware and software for a seamless user experience.

Despite the absence of Safari on Android, there are alternative browsing options available that can provide a similar experience. As mentioned earlier, popular browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Brave Browser, and Microsoft Edge offer robust features and performance on Android devices.

It’s worth noting that some third-party developers have attempted to create unofficial versions of Safari for Android. However, it’s important to approach such offerings with caution, as they may not be authorized by Apple and could potentially pose security risks. It is generally recommended to stick with official and trusted browsers available on the Google Play Store to ensure a safe and reliable browsing experience.

While Safari may not be available for Android, it’s worth considering the specific features and functionalities that attract users to Safari. If there are particular aspects of Safari that you find appealing, such as its integration with other Apple devices or its privacy features, you can explore alternative browsers that offer similar capabilities. Additionally, some browser developers strive to mimic the look and feel of Safari, allowing Android users to experience a Safari-like interface on their devices.

Overall, while Safari is not available for Android, there are numerous alternative browsers that offer a wide range of features and compatibility with Android devices. Android users have the flexibility to choose a browser that suits their preferences and browsing needs, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable web experience.

Alternative Browsing Options for Android Users

While Safari may not be available for Android devices, there are several alternative browsing options that offer comparable features and functionality. These alternative browsers cater to different user preferences and provide a seamless browsing experience on Android devices. Here are some noteworthy options:

  • Google Chrome: As the default browser on most Android devices, Google Chrome is a popular choice among Android users. It offers a user-friendly interface, excellent syncing capabilities, support for extensions, and advanced privacy options. Chrome’s seamless integration with Google services makes it a convenient option for those who heavily rely on the Google ecosystem.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Firefox is renowned for its focus on user privacy and customization. It offers enhanced tracking protection, a built-in password manager, and support for add-ons. Firefox Sync allows users to sync their bookmarks, passwords, and browsing history across devices. With its emphasis on privacy and security, Firefox is an excellent choice for those concerned about their online privacy.
  • Opera: Opera is an innovative browser that offers unique features such as a built-in ad blocker, free VPN, and data-saving mode. Its intuitive user interface and effortless tab management make it an attractive option for Android users. Opera also provides quick access to popular websites through its customizable “Speed Dial” feature.
  • Brave Browser: Brave is an open-source browser focused on privacy and speed. It blocks third-party ads and trackers by default, resulting in faster page loads and reduced data consumption. Brave also offers a feature called Brave Rewards, which allows users to earn cryptocurrency tokens by opting into privacy-respecting ads.
  • Microsoft Edge: Microsoft Edge, previously known as Microsoft Internet Explorer, is now available for Android devices. The browser offers a seamless integration with Windows devices and supports syncing, allowing users to easily switch between their mobile and desktop browsing experiences. It also offers a reading mode and built-in tracking prevention features.

These are just a few examples of the numerous alternative browsers available for Android users. Each browser has its own set of features, performance capabilities, and user interfaces. It’s recommended to explore and experiment with different browsers to find the one that suits your specific needs and preferences.

Remember, while Safari may not be an option for Android, there are plenty of alternative browsers that offer a range of features and customization options. Whether you value privacy, speed, or integration with other services, you can find a browser that meets your requirements for an enjoyable browsing experience on your Android device.

Benefits of Using Safari Browser on Android

While Safari may not be officially available for Android devices, there are certain benefits that users may consider if they are interested in using Safari-like features on their Android devices:

  • Seamless Integration with Apple Ecosystem: One of the significant advantages of using Safari on an Apple device is its seamless integration with other Apple products. If you own multiple Apple devices, such as an iPhone, iPad, and Mac computer, using Safari ensures a consistent browsing experience across all devices. Bookmarks, browsing history, and open tabs can be easily synced, allowing for a smooth transition between devices.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Safari is known for its simple, clean, and intuitive user interface. The browser is designed to prioritize the content, offering a clutter-free browsing experience. With its minimalist design and easy-to-use navigation, Safari provides a seamless and enjoyable user experience.
  • Advanced Security and Privacy Features: Safari has a strong focus on user privacy and security. It incorporates features like Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which aims to prevent cross-site tracking and safeguard user data. Safari also provides robust protection against malicious websites, alerts against potential phishing attempts, and includes features like private browsing mode for enhanced privacy.
  • Optimized Performance: Given that Safari is developed specifically for Apple devices, it is optimized to provide excellent performance and efficiency. The browser’s utilization of the WebKit engine ensures fast page rendering and efficient usage of system resources, resulting in a smooth and responsive browsing experience.
  • Excellent Support for Web Standards: Safari is known for its excellent support for web standards, including HTML5 and CSS3. This ensures that users can access and interact with modern web applications, media-rich content, and interactive websites without compatibility issues.

While these benefits are specific to Safari on Apple devices, there are alternative browsers available for Android that offer similar features and functionalities. Browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera provide seamless syncing, user-friendly interfaces, advanced security features, and optimized performance for Android users.

Ultimately, while Safari may have its unique advantages within the Apple ecosystem, Android users can still enjoy a fantastic browsing experience by exploring the plethora of alternative browsers available for their devices.

How to Install Safari Browser on Android

Since Safari is not officially available for Android devices, you cannot directly install it from the Google Play Store. However, there are a few alternative methods you can explore if you wish to experience Safari-like features on your Android device:

  • Third-Party Browsers: While Safari itself may not be available, several browser apps aim to replicate the look and feel of Safari. These browsers typically offer a similar user interface and some Safari-like features, allowing you to enjoy a Safari-like browsing experience on your Android device. You can search for these browsers on the Google Play Store and choose the one that suits your preferences.
  • Emulators: Another approach is to use an emulator that allows you to run iOS apps on your Android device. Emulators simulate the iOS environment, enabling you to run Safari and other iOS apps. However, it’s important to note that using emulators can be complex and may not provide a seamless experience, as some apps may not function properly or encounter compatibility issues.
  • Jailbreaking or Rooting: Jailbreaking an iPhone or iPad allows users to remove software restrictions imposed by Apple and install unofficial apps, including Safari, on their devices. Similarly, Android devices can be rooted to gain administrative control and install custom firmware. However, it is essential to understand that both jailbreaking and rooting can void warranties, compromise device security, and have legal implications. Therefore, these methods should only be pursued if you have a thorough understanding of the risks involved.

It’s crucial to exercise caution when exploring alternative methods to install Safari or Safari-like browsers on your Android device. Unofficial methods may come with potential security risks or compatibility issues. To ensure a safe and smooth browsing experience, it is generally recommended to rely on official and trusted browsers available on the Google Play Store.

While Safari may not be available on Android, you can still enjoy a wide range of excellent browser options specifically designed for the Android platform. These alternative browsers, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Brave Browser, and Microsoft Edge, offer robust features, enhanced performance, and compatibility with Android devices, providing an enjoyable and secure browsing experience.

Steps to Use Safari-like Features on Android

Although you cannot directly install Safari on an Android device, you can still incorporate Safari-like features and elements into your browsing experience on Android. Here are some steps you can follow to achieve a Safari-like experience:

  • Use a Safari-like Browser: Look for alternative browsers available on the Google Play Store that mimic the design and functionality of Safari. These browsers often offer a similar user interface and Safari-like features, such as a clean and minimalistic design, tabbed browsing, and bookmarks management. Install the browser of your choice and set it as your default browser.
  • Customize the Interface: Once you have installed a Safari-like browser, explore its settings and customization options. Look for options to adjust the browser’s theme, font size, and other visual elements to resemble the Safari interface. You may also find options to reorder or hide certain browser elements to match Safari’s layout.
  • Enable Reader Mode: Some browsers offer a reader mode that simplifies the layout of web pages, similar to Safari’s “Reader View.” This mode removes clutter, ads, and sidebars, presenting a clean and distraction-free reading experience. Look for this option in the browser’s settings and enable it for a Safari-like reading experience.
  • Sync Bookmarks and Tabs: If you use Safari on other Apple devices, such as an iPhone or iPad, you can sync your bookmarks and open tabs with the Safari-like browser on your Android device. Most major browsers support synchronization across different devices, allowing you to access your saved bookmarks and continue browsing seamlessly between devices.
  • Manage Privacy and Security: Just like Safari, prioritize your privacy and security on Android by exploring the browser’s settings. Look for options to block ads, enable private browsing mode, manage website permissions, and enable protections against tracking and malicious websites. Ensure that your chosen browser has robust privacy and security features to enhance your browsing experience.
  • Install Safari Extensions: Some browsers on Android offer support for extensions similar to those available for Safari. Check if your chosen Safari-like browser supports extensions and explore the available options. Install extensions that enhance your browsing experience, such as ad-blockers, password managers, or productivity tools.

By following these steps, you can tailor your browsing experience on Android to closely resemble Safari. These adjustments will allow you to enjoy Safari-like features, layout, and extensions within the capabilities of Android and the Safari-like browser you have chosen.

Remember that while these steps can help you achieve a Safari-like experience, the overall functionality and integration with Apple’s ecosystem may differ. However, with the right browser and settings adjustments, you can tailor your Android browsing experience to align with the look and feel of Safari.

Safari Browser Alternatives for Android

While Safari may not be available for Android devices, there are several alternative browsers that offer similar features and functionalities. These browsers provide a wide range of options for Android users to enjoy a seamless and personalized browsing experience. Here are some notable Safari browser alternatives for Android:

  • Google Chrome: As the default browser on most Android devices, Google Chrome is a popular choice. It offers a user-friendly interface, fast page loading, tabbed browsing, and extensive customization options. Chrome also integrates seamlessly with Google services and provides synchronization across devices.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Known for its commitment to user privacy, Firefox offers features like Enhanced Tracking Protection, which blocks third-party tracking cookies. It also supports add-ons and boasts a customizable interface. Firefox Sync allows users to sync their bookmarks, history, and passwords across multiple devices seamlessly.
  • Opera: Opera is a feature-rich browser that emphasizes speed and data savings. It offers a built-in ad blocker, free VPN, and an intuitive user interface. Opera also features features like a personalized news feed, customizable settings, and a battery-saving mode for a smooth browsing experience.
  • Brave Browser: Brave focuses on privacy by blocking ads and trackers by default. It offers faster browsing speeds, lower data usage, and includes features like HTTPS Everywhere and privacy-oriented search engines. Brave also has a unique Brave Rewards program that incentivizes users for viewing privacy-respecting ads.
  • Microsoft Edge: Formerly known as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge is available for Android devices. It provides a clean and modern interface, seamless syncing with Windows devices, and integration with Microsoft services. Edge also offers features like a built-in password manager, reading mode, and tracking prevention.

Each of these alternative browsers brings its own set of features, performance, and user interface options. Android users can choose the browser that aligns best with their preferences and requirements. Ultimately, the choice will depend on factors like preferred privacy features, syncing capabilities, browsing speed, and user interface design.

It’s important to note that these are just a few examples of the many browsers available for Android. Other browsers, such as Dolphin Browser, UC Browser, and Puffin Browser, also offer unique features and can be worth exploring based on individual preferences.

While Safari may not be an option for Android, these alternative browsers provide a variety of robust features and a seamless browsing experience on Android devices.

Published on April 12, 2024

best android browsers featured image

In an age where our lives are increasingly intertwined with the digital realm, browser apps have emerged as important tools for productivity, entertainment, and connectivity. These web-based applications offer a gateway to a world of possibilities, simplifying tasks, streamlining workflows, and enhancing our online experiences. Join us on a journey through the landscape of browser apps as we explore their functions.

The best Android browsers for surfing the web

Brave browser, dolphin browser, duckduckgo privacy browser, ecosia browser.

  • Firefox Browser

Google Chrome

Kiwi browser, microsoft edge.

  • Opera’s browsers (four browsers)

Samsung Internet Browser

Stargon browser, surfy browser.

  • Tor Browser

Vivaldi Browser

Price: Free /In-app purchases ($9.99 – $99.99 per item)

Brave Private Web Browser, VPN

Brave Browser is one of the newer Android browsers. It came out in 2016 and has a variety of features. There is an ad blocker built-in. Additionally, it can block third-party cookies and block scripts, and it even has HTTPS everywhere. It also boasts optimizations for speed and battery life improvements.

You can even keep track of all the stuff that it blocks. In real-world use, it is highly functional and even occasionally fun to use. It also has most of the basic features, like bookmarks, history, extensions, and a privacy (incognito) mode . The app is entirely free, with no in-app purchases or ads.

Price: Free

Dolphin Browser has seen a lot of success on Android. It has a decent set of features as well. That includes theming, flash support, ad-block, incognito mode, and some tertiary features like gesture controls. There is also add-on and extension support if you need that, along with a native adblocker. While it may not hold the same level of engagement as it did in the past when locating a quality browser was a challenge, it remains on this list because it still exceeds the criteria necessary for inclusion.

DuckDuckGo screenshot

DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser is a reasonably good alternative for folks who value privacy. It has a lot of the basic stuff, like forced HTTPS, a private search, and a close button that deletes your browsing data and closes all of your tabs. Additionally, the app gives each website a privacy grade (on an A-F scale), so you can see exactly how bad any given site is. Of course, it blocks trackers and stuff like that as well. It doesn’t have some super useful features like password syncing (like Firefox and Chrome), but it’s otherwise a great mobile browser.

Ecosia: Browse to plant trees.

Ecosia is an environmentally friendly mobile web browser. It features all of the usual stuff like bookmarks, multiple tabs, a private browsing mode, and downloads. It pulls from Chromium’s open-source project. Thus, it looks and feels a bit like Chrome as well. The big draw here is the cause. The browser donates up to 80% of its profits to plant trees. That isn’t a browser feature, but it’s definitely worth it. This one is good for those who don’t need to browse the web often but still want something that works well. The tree thing is a bonus. It’s also free.

Firefox Browsers

Firefox Fast & Private Browser

There are two really good Firefox browsers. The first is the standard Firefox browser. It features cross-platform syncing, a rock-solid browsing experience, tracking protection, a built-in password manager, and more. It is Google Chrome’s primary rival, and there’s little difference between the two in terms of features and capabilities. The second good Firefox option is Firefox Focus, a privacy browser with a ton of security and privacy features. You can find the standard Firefox browser at the button below, or check out Firefox Focus here . They are both excellent Android browsers.

Google Chrome

Of course, we give the obligatory nod to the most popular Android browser. Many people have this pre-installed on their devices and opt to just keep using it. That’s a perfectly reasonable thing to do. It features syncing with Google Chrome on desktop, along with the latest Material Design, unlimited browsing tabs, deeper integration with Android, and plenty of other features for both basic browsing and power users.

There are four total Chrome browsers. In descending order of stability, you have the regular Google Chrome, Chrome Beta, Chrome Dev, and Chrome Canary. Choose at your own risk. Google Chrome almost always has the latest Android features before other browsers as well.

Kiwi Browser - Fast & Quiet

Kiwi Browser is one of the newer Android browsers. It uses chromium as a base. Thus, you may recognize a lot of its visual elements and settings options. It also loads pages pretty well. Some of the other features include native ad blocking, a pop-up blocker, a night mode with a 100% contrast mode for AMOLED screens, and crypto jacking protection. There are some user interface tweaks as well, such as the address bar resting on the bottom of the app instead of the top. It’s delightful to use, although we do miss the desktop syncing available on the big-name browsers. If you don’t need that, this is definitely one of the best options.

Waterfox: Privacy Web Browser

Waterfox is a fairly good browser based on the Gecko engine. The user interface of this browser will remind you of the early days of Firefox. The design is minimalistic, which gives the browser a good vibe overall. It also comes with stuff like anti-tracking; by using Oblivious DNS, the browser will ensure that you’re not being spied on. You can launch private tabs. There’s also a container tabs feature that lets you categorize your tabs according to your preferences and even color-code them, which is pretty neat. It also claims to collect minimal data to ensure a rigid policy of no telemetry collection. There’s also stuff like add-ons, customizable settings for history, cookie deletion, and much more. The only downside is that this one still needs to be a bit more optimized for Android. There are occasional bugs and UI disturbances here and there.

Price: Free /In-app purchases ($20.00 per item)

Microsoft Edge: AI browser

Microsoft Edge is a surprisingly decent mobile web browser. It competes favorably with Chrome and Firefox in terms of functionality. You can sync passwords, bookmarks, and history if you want to. Plus, you can continue browsing on the desktop version from the mobile version, and vice versa. This used to be an original browser from Microsoft. However, the company switched to a Chromium base, so it works a lot like Chrome with some light user interface changes. You use a Microsoft account to sync instead of a Google account in this browser.

Opera’s browsers

Price: Free /In-app purchases ($8.00 – $48.00 per item)

Opera browser with AI

Opera has a few different Android browsers. The first is their flagship browser, Opera Browser ( Google Play ). It features cross-device syncing with the desktop version, support for multiple platforms, autofill, and a native adblocker. Next comes Opera Touch (linked at the button below), a mobile browser with modern mobile features like tracker blocking and ad-blocking. The third is Opera Mini ( Google Play ), a lighter browser with the ability to save up to 90% of your data while using it. It also has an ad blocker, an offline reading mode, and more. Finally, we have Opera GX ( Google Play ), a gaming browser that includes a lot of the same features as the others but also includes a gaming news feed and theming, syncing between the desktop and mobile versions, and more. You can go with any of the four browsers, depending on your tastes.

Samsung Internet Browser screenshot

Samsung Internet Browser is surprisingly good. It features swipe gestures, plug-ins, a quick menu, and some Material Design elements. Some of the plug-ins even allow for ad-blocking. There are also features for things like Amazon shopping, online shopping in general, and support for 360-degree video. This is likely the browser many Samsung phone owners see before they make Chrome their default. The app is labeled beta. However, it’s more stable than some non-beta browsers, even on this list.

Stargon Browser screenshot

Stargon Browser is a bit of a wildcard on this list. It has a bunch of features and it seems to work pretty well in our testing. The features includes a gesture control system, custom fonts, a DNS VPN for International folks, a built-in translation service powered by Google Translate, and a video downloader function. There is even a dark mode. Stargon lacks a lot of the big browser features like bookmark syncing, but it does everything else quite well. Even its secret incognito mode is pretty good. The app is entirely free without ads.

Price: Free /In-app purchases ($0.99 per item)

Surfy Browser - best android web browsers

Surfy Browser has a hipster name and not the biggest following. However, it’s a surprisingly decent browser. It features the usual niceties like bookmarks, history, multiple search providers, and things like that. You also get another layer of power-user features like an ad block, theming, and surprisingly fun toolbar customizations. The app’s claim to fame is the text-to-speech feature that reads website pages to you if you want it to. It’s not a bad way to go if you need something like this.

Tor Browser for Android

Tor Browser for Android is probably the best browser for privacy. It connects to Tor’s proxy network and hides what you’re doing from your ISP and, basically, everybody else. It surfs the web fairly well, and it also blocks trackers, defends against surveillance, and includes multi-layer encryption. The app is in the very early stages of development at the time of this writing. It requires Orbot to use Tor’s network. However, future versions of this browser will be able to connect to Tor’s proxy network on their own. We’re comfortable enough putting this on here despite its early age. We do only recommend this for people who are serious about their privacy and power users who understand how this works.

Vivaldi Browser - Fast & Safe

Vivaldi is the newest browser on the list. It’s a reasonably decent browser with a surprisingly decent number of features. They include cross-platform syncing with the desktop version, a built-in note function, full-length website screenshots, a privacy browser mode, and the ability to change search engines quickly. The app’s developers are former employees of Opera, so they know a thing or two about browsers. The app is in open beta at the time of this writing, but it should be stable enough for most people.

Tor Browser is renowned for its privacy features, offering direct connections to the Tor network, which significantly hinders tracking efforts by websites. It also combats trackers, provides three layers of encryption, and performs competently as a standard browser.

Firefox excels as a browser for Android TV, offering a card-like interface and voice search. It syncs with your Firefox account for seamless access to data. Despite its absence from the Play Store, it can be sideloaded.

Tell us any excellent Android browsers in the comments if we missed them.

Best web browsers for Android

Looking for a good web browser for Android? We have selected the best web browsers for Android that you can download right now.

Dozens of web browsers are available on Android, but not all of them are great. Given you'll spend a lot of time on a web browser, it’s a good idea to pick the best one that suits your needs. So we have selected the best web browsers for Android you can download right now.

Before we start, don’t forget to check out our recommendations for the best overall apps and the best podcast apps for Android.

Best web browsers for Android:

  • Samsung Internet

DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser

Microsoft edge, kiwi browser.

Although most web browsers have migrated to the Blink browser engine that's a part of the Chromium project and powers Chrome, Firefox is one of the few browsers that still uses its own engine, Gecko. This really makes it a truly different option if you’re looking for a Chrome alternative. Firefox is snappy and includes all the basics. It also has things that aren’t common in most mobile browsers.

One of the key highlights of Firefox on Android is its add-ons support. Of course, not all add-ons available on the desktop version are available on mobile, but you get a limited selection of recommended add-ons to choose from. Firefox also cares about your privacy and includes features to stop ad tracking and fingerprinting. In addition, the browser supports sync, so you can keep your passwords, bookmarks, history synced across platforms. Lastly, it's open-source.

Samsung Internet Browser

Samsung Internet is one of the few Samsung-made Google app replacements that people like to use. Therefore, it has quite a following even among non-Samsung users. It's based on the Blink browser engine, so it's speedy and fluid. The browser also comes with all the basics and supports ad blocking by downloading one of the suggested add-ons. However, the add-on needs to be downloaded from Google Play as a new app, which is sort of a hassle.

You can also customize the look of your browser and sync bookmarks, saved pages, and more to your Samsung account. In addition, Samsung recently added support to block fingerprinting in the browser.

Brave is an open-source web browser that's based on the Chromium project and uses the Blink browser engine. It separates itself from the crowd by focusing on user privacy and automatically blocking ads and trackers. BAT or Basic Attention Tokens are another highlight of the browser. Brave allows users to run optional ads and get rewarded in BATs. It's a cryptocurrency that users can then tip to verified creators online or keep to themselves.

In other features, you get sync support, background video playback, and the usual basics. The browser also has a pretty clean UI, and you can remove any elements that are present by default, and you don’t like.

Opera Mini is the browser to get if you live in a region with poor connectivity or expensive data plans. It's lightweight, passes all internet traffic through its own servers, strips all unnecessary things to make webpages smaller, and saves up to 90% of data. The browser also comes with a built-in ad blocker and an offline file-sharing tool. You can use the file-sharing tool to share files with friends and family at high speeds.

In addition, Opera Mini packs a media downloader that automatically highlights all of the downloadable music or video files on a webpage and can download them in the background. The browser is mainly popular in African and Asian markets.

As its name suggests, DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser is a web browser focused on user privacy and helps you take control of it. The browser isn’t particularly feature-rich, but you’re not using it for extra bells and whistles. For example, it automatically blocks third-party trackers and asks participating websites to stop sharing your personal data with other companies.

The browser also gives all websites a score based on their privacy and security practices and shows how much it was able to increase that score. In addition, you get a nifty button to clean all your browsing data in one tap.

Microsoft Edge is another Chromium-based browser that's an excellent option if you’re part of the Microsoft ecosystem. It's fast and comes with a bottom navigation bar that makes operating the browser easy, given the ever-increasing size of Android smartphones. You also get pretty much all major browser features, including sync support, AdBlock Plus (ABP) support, and the ability to block trackers.

In addition, Edge allows you to keep a clean home page by removing all the Microsoft News stuff, most visited sites, and the image of the day. Unfortunately, there's no add-on support apart from ABP right now.

Vivaldi is a relatively newer browser on the market. Still, it packs a lot of features, including pretty much everything you need. For example, there's a built-in ad and tracker blocker, support for writing notes while you browse, dark mode, QR code scanner, and sync support. You can also customize the browser as per your liking, capture full-page screenshots, and translate websites.

It's also based on the Chromium project and uses the Blink browser engine. The only thing missing is support for add-ons that's still rare in mobile browsers.

Developed by XDA senior member Arnaud42 , Kiwi Browser was the first Android browser to support desktop Chrome extensions. It's open-source and has a built-in ad blocker, cryptojacking protection, AMP skipper, dark mode, and background video playback. The browser also automatically blocks invasive trackers and allows you to move the address bar to the bottom for easier access.

In addition, you can pick a custom folder to save downloads and block annoying notifications. If you’re changing devices, Kiwi allows you to export your bookmarks to take to the new device. The browser wasn’t updated for a while this year, which made people wonder whether it will survive, but it's getting updates again.

Google Chrome

Chrome doesn’t need an introduction, and if your phone has Google apps, it would have come pre-installed on your device. It's the best browser for most people. Google Chrome comes with almost everything you need, and pretty much everyone is familiar with it through the desktop version. You get sync support, password manager, a lite mode (similar to Opera Mini) to save data, support for secure DNS, and a lot more. The browser also gets regular updates.

However, there's no add-ons support, and if you’re concerned about privacy, you can pick from some of the best privacy-oriented browsers that we've already listed.

These are the best web browsers on Android right now. Which browser do you use on your Android phone? Do you think we missed a great web browser? Let us know in the comments section. Meanwhile, if you’re in the market for a new Android phone, we've selected the best phones you can buy today.

How to download apps on an amazon fire tablet.

Get some new apps on your Fire Tablet.

Key Takeaways

  • You can easily find and download apps on a Fire Tablet by searching for them in the Appstore and tapping "Get" to begin the download.
  • If you prefer, you can also install the Google Play Store on a Fire Tablet to access even more apps and have the best of both worlds.

Amazon Fire Tablets are great, affordable devices, but the user interface is very different from that of other tablets. They're Amazon through and through, which even includes the Appstore. We'll show you how to download apps and games on a Fire Tablet.

Although Fire Tablets are technically Android tablets, they don't come with the Google Play Store on board. If you want, you can get the Play Store up and running on a Fire tablet . However, you can get many of the things that you need from the default app store, which is aptly named the Amazon Appstore.

First, find the "Appstore" on the home screen under the "Home" tab.

The Appstore is organized into several sections at the top. The main "Home" tab includes a bunch of suggestions. You can tap "Categories" to get more specific.

Select an app or a game to see more information about it. Here, you can tap "Get" to begin downloading.

A pop-up will tell you what the app needs to access. If you agree with the permissions , tap "Download."

When the app is done installing, you can tap "Open" to launch it. Apps are also automatically added to the home screen.

That's it! The Amazon Appstore might not be quite as big as the Google Play Store, but it does have most of the popular apps. With a little extra work, you can also get the Play Store and have the best of both worlds.

Blazing fast. Incredibly private.

Privacy is built in.

Online privacy isn’t just something you should hope for — it’s something you should expect. That’s why Safari comes with industry-leading privacy protection technology built in, including Intelligent Tracking Prevention that identifies trackers and helps prevent them from profiling or following you across the web. Upgrading to iCloud+ gives you even more privacy protections, including the ability to sign up for websites and services without having to share your personal email address.

Intelligent Tracking Prevention

Safari stops trackers in their tracks.

What you browse is no one’s business but your own. Safari has built‑in protections to help stop websites and data-collection companies from watching and profiling you based on your browsing activity. Intelligent Tracking Prevention uses on-device intelligence to help prevent cross-site tracking and stops known trackers from using your IP address — making it incredibly difficult to learn who you are and what you’re interested in.

Privacy Report

Safari makes it simple to see how your privacy is protected on all the websites you visit. Click the Privacy Report button in your toolbar for a snapshot of cross-site trackers currently prevented from profiling you on the website you’re visiting. Or view a weekly Privacy Report to see how Safari protects you as you browse over time.

Surf safe and sound.

Strong security protections in Safari help keep you safe. Passkeys introduce a safer way to sign in. iCloud Keychain securely stores and autofills passkeys and passwords across all your devices. Safari also notifies you when it encounters suspicious websites and prevents them from loading. Because it loads each web page in a separate process, any harmful code is always confined to a single browser tab so it won’t crash the entire application or access your data. And Safari automatically upgrades sites from HTTP to the more secure HTTPS when available.

Passkeys introduce a more secure and easier way to sign in. No passwords required.

Passkeys are end-to-end encrypted and safe from phishing and data leaks, and they are stronger than all common two-factor authentication types. Thanks to iCloud Keychain, they work across all your Apple devices, and they even work on non-Apple devices.

And when your Mac, iOS, or iPadOS devices are near each other, they can automatically pass what you’re doing in Safari from one device to another using Handoff. You can even copy images, video, or text from Safari on your iPhone or iPad, then paste into another app on your nearby Mac — or vice versa.

When you use Safari on multiple devices, your tabs carry over from one Apple device to another. So you can search, shop, work, or browse on your iPhone, then switch to your iPad or Mac and pick up right where you left off.

Save web pages you want to read later by adding them to your Reading List. Then view them on any of your iCloud-connected devices — even if you’re not connected to the internet.

iCloud Keychain securely stores your user names, passkeys, passwords, and credit card numbers and keeps them up to date on your trusted devices. So you can easily sign in to your favorite websites — as well as apps on iOS and iPadOS — and quickly make online purchases.

To much scams…please READ!

So whenever I use this app/ Safari it get these trackers and scammers to get my location and this is making me nervous. I installed ad blocker I think it’s called and I blocked some trackers which made me feel better. Every time you search something you usually get a scam or tracker. I do not like when people track me down. I rarely use this app because of the scams and risks. I think it is an OK app in general because it’s the people making these small BAD websites. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it could use work but it is pretty much like google. I use google way more because I feel like it is much safer than safari. I could be wrong… Safari could use some work with all these BAD websites. Can you block these bad websites? I would love to block these websites cause they are scary. Also watch out for nine anime/ 9anime websites… I searched up 9anime on safari and clicked a link. It looked safe but then these inappropriate pop ups kept coming. I immediately got off. I checked my ‘ How much trackers we have prevented’ or whatever it’s called it said that it had prevented 14 trackers from getting my IP address. This was good and bad news. I’m glad that safari and google can prevent these trackers but it is bad because this is dangerous. BE CAREFUL ON SAFARI!!!

Your Underrated Prince, Safari

In my humble opinion, Safari is the underrated king among multiple web browsers on the market. I was a PC devotee from ‘95 to ‘16, since then, it’s been all Tim Cook 🍎 all the time. My only regret is not purchasing a smartphone back in ‘07 from Steve Jobs. Presently, I own an iPhone 6s Plus in rose gold (2016), iPad Mini (2016), iPad Pro (2019) & MacBook (2018) in rose gold with matching Beats By Dre headphones. All four are set up with Safari, not Chrome, TOR, Brave, Edge, or DDGo. I love the ability to quickly save favorites, add to reading list & share content to other platforms. My favorites are alphabetized for quick reference & the reading list keeps all articles & pages in chronological order for quick recall. Also, I learned Safari quickly because it’s extremely user friendly. The browser helped my navigation of Apple when switching from PC. I’ll admit, learning MacBook isn’t easy, but, Safari keeps things familiar for me on the desktop. When lost, just go back to Safari & start over. It’s surprising no one in tech media mentions Safari more often as a go to source for navigating the internet. Chrome is the reigning king of, Land Of Browsers, without an heir apparent. I nominate Safari as the prince with future king potential. Citizens of Land Of Browsers don’t like their chrome-plated dirty laundry aired, sold or tracked.

Google sandbox

My wife went into google sandbox and put all my information on there under business add settings. I need all deleted and if there’s any copies sent to my email if not delete and I’m pressing charges and I’ll contact Google myself also she has taken my Apple IDs her and her new bow means boyfriend after 20 years of marriage with me. I gave her my whole life and she has done nothing but take from me. I’m heartbroken but mainly I suffer from PTSD social anxiety, agoraphobia shell shop and now I have a vascular disease in my left leg, wonder where that came from if you would please erase from my iPhone SE that was just bought. I have also another one sitting here that was just bought last year not even a year ago that is also tore up with my Apple ID locked reeving, but she retrieved one while ago. It was two hours after it said it was available. She uses Bluetooth devices to get past off of messenger to get into my phone, please fix everything and press charges with anything. My name has on it because I didn’t do it. I have two different iPhone sitting here that I can give you the serial numbers to that. I can’t even put on my phone on my app because it has been taken, plus the IMEI.

How to install the Google Play Store on an Amazon Fire tablet

The Amazon Fire lineup is filled with affordable Android tablets. Offering plenty of functionality without the price tag associated with products from Samsung or Lenovo, Amazon's home-grown family of tablets is an easy recommendation for frugal shoppers. There's a bit of caveat to the lineup, however, as none of them come preinstalled with the Google Play Store .

Allow apps from unknown sources

Know which amazon fire tablet you have, download the google play store, what you need.

Your Amazon Fire tablet

APK files for the Google Play Store

That means you won't have access to many of the great apps available on Google Play and will instead be limited to what's available on the Amazon App Store. And while Amazon does a lot of things well, its App Store leaves much to be desired. If you're looking to use the Google Play Store on an Amazon Fire tablet, you'll need to deal with a clunky (but fairly simple) workaround. Here's the easiest way to download Google Play on your Fire tablet.

Because you aren't able to download the Google Play Store directly from the Amazon App Store, you'll need to download it from the internet. However, Amazon Fire devices have a built-in setting that blocks the download of apps from sources other than the Amazon App Store. Before downloading Google Play, you'll need to disable that setting. Here's how:

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Amazon Fire device.

Step 2: Select the Security & Privacy tab.

  • How to reset Apple AirPods and AirPods Pro
  • Every Android tablet we’re expecting in 2024
  • How to find your lost phone (tips for iPhone and Android)

Step 3: In the Security & Privacy menu, select Apps from Unknown Sources .

Step 4: Select the Silk Browser option and then toggle the Allow from this source button.

Once you've enabled the ability to download apps from outside sources, you'll be ready to download the components necessary for running the Google Play Store. In order to do so, however, you'll need to know specifically what Amazon Fire tablet you're using. If you already know which model you have, skip this section, or follow along just to double check.

Step 1: Open the Settings app again, scroll down to the Device Options tab, and select it.

Step 2: Select the About Fire Tablet option.

Step 3: Check the information below the Device Model heading to learn which specific Amazon Fire model you're using.

With the knowledge of which Amazon Fire model you have, you'll be ready to download the four APKs necessary for running the Google Play Store. Take note that this process may wipe your microSD card if you're using one. Before downloading the following items, make sure to remove your microSD card from the slot just to be safe. Additionally, the APKs you'll be downloading are totally safe. However, the site that they're hosted on has a lot of misleading and potentially malicious ads that may try to confuse you into clicking on them. You should be able to avoid any issues as long as you only select the options listed below, so make sure that you're sticking to the steps closely.

Step 1: Open the Silk Browser app and navigate to this page so that you can tap on the links below.

Step 2: If you have the Fire 7 (8th, 9th, or 12th Generation), the Fire HD 8 (8th or 10th Generation), the Fire HD 10 (9th or 11th Generation), or the Fire Max 11, select this link and then select the red Download APK box:

Google Account Manager 7.1.2 (Android 6.0+)

If you have the Fire HD 6, the Fire 7 (7th Generation or older), the Fire HD 8 (7th Generation or older), the Fire HDX 8.9, or the Fire HD 10 (7th Generation or older), click on this link and then select the red Download APK box:

Google Account Manager 5.1-1743759 (Android 5.0+)

Step 3: After selecting the APK download prompt, exit the full-screen pop-up ad. You may get an additional pop-up from your Fire tablet that says the download may be harmful. Select Download anyway . Select this option every time you're prompted to in the following steps.

Step 4: Return to this page in the Silk Browser and click on this link if you have the Fire 7 (12th Generation), the Fire HD 8 (12th Generation), or the Fire Max 11, then select the red Download APK box:

Google Services Framework 10-6494331 (Android 10+)

If you have the Fire 7 (9th Generation), the Fire HD 8 (8th, 9th, or 10th Generation), or the Fire HD 10 (9th or 11th Generation), click this link and then select the red Download APK box:

Google Services Framework 9-4832352 (Android 9.0+)

If you have the Fire HD 6 (any version), the Fire 7 (7th Generation or older), the Fire HD 8 (7th Generation or older), the Fire HDX 8.9, or the Fire HD 10 (7th Generation or older), click this link and then select the red Download APK box:

Google Services Framework 5.1-1743759 (Android 5.1+)

Step 5: After selecting the red Download APK button, click out of the full page pop up ad and then select Download anyway .

Step 6: Return to this page using the Silk Browser and select the link below based on your Fire model. Be aware that when you click on the link, you won't be given a clear red Download APK button. Instead, you'll need to select the APK from a list of downloads. Find the APK that's closest to the top that doesn't say "beta" in its title, and select the download icon on the right side of the screen.

Fire 7 (12th Generation), Fire HD 8 (12th Generation), and Fire Max 11: Google Play Services (Android 11+)

Fire HD 8 (10th Generation) and Fire HD 10 (9th and 11th Generation): Google Play Services (Android 9.0+)

Fire 7 (9th Generation): Google Play Services (Android 6.0+)

Fire HD 8 (8th Generation): Google Play Services (Android 6.0+)

Fire HD 6, Fire 7 (7th Generation or older), Fire HD 8 (7th Generation or older), Fire HDX 8.9, Fire HD 10 (7th Generation or older): Google Play Services (Android 5.0+)

Step 7: Once you've selected your APK, scroll down and select the red Download APK button. Select Download anyway if you get the "Harmful file" pop-up.

Step 8: Once you've downloaded those three APKs, you'll only have one more item to download, which is universal across all Amazon Fire models. Return to this page with the Silk Browser and click on the link below. Like with the last step, select the APK that's closest to the top of the list that doesn't have the word "beta" in its file name.

Google Play Store

Step 9: After selecting the APK from the list, scroll down and select the blue Download APK button and then select the Download anyway option one final time.

Step 10: With those four downloads complete, you'll be ready to open the files and get the Google Play Store working on your Amazon Fire. Go to your home screen, open the Files app, and then go to the Downloads menu by selecting the tabs on the side of the screen and then selecting Downloads .

Step 11: Change your file view type to list view by selecting the icon in the corner that displays the files arranged in a list so that you can see their full titles. For the Google Play Store to work, you'll need to open the files in a specific order. When opening each, you may get a pop-up saying that you're opening a file from an unknown source. Select Continue. Open the files in this order and then select Install , then Done :

  • com.google.android.gsf.login
  • com.google.android.gsf
  • com.google.android.gms
  • com.android.vending

Step 12: After installing all four APK files, you should see the Google Play Store app added to your home screen. If you don't see it, you may need to restart your tablet. From here, you can select the app, log into your Google account, and start downloading apps from the store.

And just like that, you've successfully added Google Play to your Amazon Fire tablet! You can now download any apps/games that you want from the Play Store, many of which aren't available on the Amazon App Store.

A reverse image search is a handy way to figure out the origin of an image, locate similar images, or fact check an image. There are a multitude of ways to perform a reverse image search on your mobile device, whether you're using an Android phone or an iPhone.

For example, here's how to do a reverse image search via Google lens on Android:

Your desktop PC or go-to laptop doesn’t have to be out of reach when you’re away from home. Outside of tossing your MacBook or ChromeBook in a sleeve or backpack, there’s an easier way to access these web-connected peripherals when you’re on the move, and all you need is a smartphone!

What we’re getting at is called remote desktop access. This relatively simple technology (letting you interact with a virtualized version of your PC) has been around for a minute, but year over year, it continues to improve. That being said, there are specific tools and steps you’ll need to follow to ensure this mobile mirroring works correctly.

When smartphones were in their infancy, battery packs were easy to replace. Most products let users open a flap on the back of the device to easily remove the battery, giving them a quick way to ditch a dead battery and install a new one. Fast forward to 2024, and that's a rarity. Replacing batteries is much more difficult today than it was a decade ago, and that's especially true for all iPhone models.

Whether you're working with the new iPhone 15 or an old iPhone 12, you can't just run out to the store and snag a new battery for your smartphone. Instead, you'll need to contact Apple directly or go through elaborate workarounds to install the battery yourself.

What is android auto.

Hey Google, how's the traffic to work?

Juggling tasks while driving is risky, but it's a common habit. Whether you're checking directions on Google Maps, playing your downloaded songs from Spotify , or sending a quick text, your eyes must remain on the road despite these distractions. The infotainment systems in modern cars, with their buggy and frustrating OSes, make this a tall order. This is where Android Auto steps in, offering features of the best Android phones while helping drivers focus on what matters most. Here's how it works.

What is Android Auto, and how does it work?

Android Auto transforms your car's dashboard into a smart mobile command center. Plug your Android smartphone into your car using a USB cable or connect wirelessly via Wi-Fi or mobile data, and your car's dashboard mirrors the familiar Android interface. You can then enjoy apps like Waze, WhatsApp, and Audible on a clutter-free, driver-focused interface.

Check out Google's list of compatible apps if you're curious if your favorite app works with Android Auto.

Android Auto brings Google Assistant to your dashboard for easy hands-free access. It also sits atop your car's infotainment setup, letting you switch between Android Auto and your vehicle's features.

15 best Android Auto apps in 2024

How can android auto use google assistant.

Google Assistant seamlessly integrates into Android Auto. Simple voice commands like "Hey Google" or tapping the microphone icon activate the assistant. This feature lets you easily set reminders, make calls, and navigate routes hands-free.

To get started, ask for directions to the nearest gas station or parking spot. Although it can't tackle vehicle-specific functions, like adjusting the seats, it handles tasks like playing music. It also controls smart home devices with an active data connection.

Best Google Assistant-compatible smart home devices in 2024

How to find out if your phone works with android auto.

If you prefer a wired connection, connect Android Auto to your car display using a high-quality USB cable if your Android phone runs version 8.0 or higher.

For a wireless connection, your device should support 5GHz Wi-Fi and run on Android 11.0 or higher. Google and Samsung smartphones using Android 10.0 meet this requirement. Google also says that Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note 8 with Android 9.0 are compatible.

If your phone runs Android 9.0 or below, download the Android Auto app. It's built into phones with Android 10 and above. Find out what software your phone runs by going to Settings > About > Android Version . Also, check Settings > System > System Update and see if a newer software version is available.

How to find out if your car works with Android Auto

It's rare to find a carmaker that doesn't include Android Auto in its latest models. The odds are in your favor, with more than 500 vehicles supporting Android Auto. Use our latest guide to check if your new car supports this feature.

Google provides a list of countries that support Android Auto, along with compatible vehicles and stereos if you have aftermarket upgrades.

How to set up Android Auto in your vehicle with a USB cable

Connecting your phone to your car with a USB cable is all it takes to use Android Auto. Your phone must have the Android Auto software installed, and your car must support the app. Here's how to do it:

  • Make sure your phone and car meet the requirements.
  • Turn on your mobile data.
  • Put your car in park (P) and turn on the infotainment system.
  • Connect a USB cable to your car's USB port and the other end to your Android phone.
  • Select the Android Auto symbol on your car's display if Android Auto doesn't start automatically.

How to set up wireless Android Auto in your vehicle

Android Auto offers a wireless option for a cleaner setup without wires. Here's how to set it up:

  • Ensure your phone and car meet the requirements.
  • Park your car (P) and turn on the infotainment system.
  • Navigate to your vehicle's infotainment settings and find the Bluetooth menu.
  • Open the Settings on your smartphone and select Bluetooth .
  • Go to Add another device and search for your car to begin pairing. You may need to confirm a PIN.
  • Look for a Welcome to Android Auto screen on your smartphone. Check your car's display for confirmation prompts if it doesn't appear.

Does Android Auto take control of your car?

Android Auto does not allow control of built-in car systems, such as cruise control or air conditioning. However, it interacts minimally with the vehicle, such as muting music streams when a warning or alert sounds.

Google Maps for Android Auto will collect battery data from electric cars in future updates, as Google announced during CES 2024 . With this feature, the app tracks and displays real-time battery information and adjusts your driving route autonomously according to the car's battery needs.

Smarter and uniform dashboard across different cars

Android Auto's standardized dashboard adapts to your smartphone settings, making the experience of switching cars smoother. While there are still areas for improvement , Google is refining and enhancing Android Auto. If you use an iPhone and are considering moving from Apple CarPlay, check out our Android Auto and CarPlay comparison .

Flash with Android Flash Tool

Android Flash Tool is a web-based tool that lets you flash a pre built Android build to your device for development and testing.

Android Flash Tool supports these devices:

  • Pixel 2 and newer
  • DragonBoard RB3 (also known as db845c)

Meet requirements

To run the Android Flash Tool, you must meet these requirements:

  • Hardware requirements
  • A browser supporting WebUSB , such as Chrome or Edge 79+

Enable your USB connection

Before running Android on a device, you must enable your USB connection:

Enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging in the developer options:

  • In the Settings app, tap About phone .
  • Tap Build number seven times.
  • When you see the message You are now a developer! , tap <- .
  • Tap System , then tap Developer options .
  • Enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging . If OEM unlocking is unavailable, connect to the internet so the device can check in. If that still doesn't work, you can force a check in: In the Dialer app, enter *#*#CHECKIN#*#* (*#*#2432546#*#*) (no SIM required). After entering the number (no need to press call), the text disappears and a success notification appears.

If OEM unlocking remains unavailable, your device might be SIM locked by your carrier and the bootloader can't be unlocked.

Connect your device to a USB port on your workstation.

Flash your device

If you have Android Debug Bridge (adb) running on your machine, stop the adb service before proceeding so that it doesn't interfere with the flashing process. To stop adb, run:

In a browser on your development workstation, open flash.android.com . The Welcome page appears.

Click Allow ADB access to allow the tool to communicate with your test device through adb.

Click Add new device .

Select your device from the list and click Connect . This list might not contain the full device name.

On your device's screen, select Always allow from this computer and click OK to accept the USB debugging connection.

Select the connected device in your browser.

Search for and select your build from the list. You can also select options, such as wiping the device or force flashing all partitions.

To start flashing, click Install . The device reboots and enters fastboot mode.

After Flash Complete appears, disconnect the device from the USB cable.

Resolve USB transfer errors

Sometimes Android devices have trouble communicating through certain USB ports or hubs due to the high throughput of data. To resolve transfer errors:

  • Don't use USB hubs. This includes connections through monitors.
  • Don't use USB extension cables or adapters if possible.
  • Try a different USB port. Rear ports are often more reliable than front ones.
  • If you're using a USB C port, try a USB A port instead.

Return Pixel to public build

If you want to return your Pixel device to a public build, use the Android Flash Tool back-to-public option .
