Girls Aloud
Six reasons why going to gigs alone is the best.
So you want to go see that metalcore band you love but none of your friends like that “shouty” music? Or you REALLY want to go check out that new artist on TikTok you discovered but all your mates won’t go to a gig where they only know one song? Or worse, your group of friends cannot get themselves organized and work out which show and when to go on a tour, so you’re worried you’ll miss out on tickets. Let them be miserable and start living your best life by going to concerts by yourself. Trust us, it’ll be the best thing you’ll ever do!
Going to gigs alone can be daunting. What am I going to do with myself in between sets? Are people going to think I’m weird? Why would I not want to share the experience?
Listen, we are all for sharing the experience, but sometimes it’s either missing out or going alone, and in those cases we definitely recommend going alone. Here’s a few reasons why you’ll never regret it once you build up the courage to go through with it.
1 . See artists you really REALLY want to see
Imagine the FOMO of missing your favourite band on their new tour, hearing all those new songs live, seeing everyone post about it. Don’t let that happen, and get that ticket. Plus you then get to tell the pals who didn’t want to come how you saw that band or artist before they blew up or how they played that one B-side track that everyone loves – now who has FOMO?
2. Meet new friends
It’s no secret that music brings people together. That moment when everyone’s favourite ballad hits and there’s not a dry eye in the building, you turn to your left or right and suddenly you bond with a stranger over your favourite song. For the metalheads, we also recommend mosh pits, follow the rules of the pit but what a way to make new friends!
3. The freedom
Now hear us out – but going to a gig alone means you can get to the venue when you want, you can go to the loos when you want, you can stand in line at the merch for hours and no one will ask if you’re sure you want to wait. And no one will drag you home when you want to wait after the show has finished and find every piece of confetti or ask for the setlist.
4 . It’s a cult
You are not alone in going to gigs by yourself, you’d probably be surprised by how many people do the same thing. Some fan groups even have entire sub cultures of going to gigs alone (shoutout to Frank Turner’s solo armada, we see you!) – bringing us back to reason #2, new friends.
5. Confidence boost
Going to a gig by yourself will do wonders for your confidence. Sure the first time might feel a bit awkward and weird, but isn’t it always? Remember your first day of school? And then it was kind of okay after a while (let’s ignore our teenage years…) Once you’ve done it and experience all of the divinity of a solo gig you’ll feel free as a bird.
6. Experience the music your way
Whether you love hanging out by the bar, need to be front row, prefer seats or want to leave a bit earlier to catch the last train – the world is your oyster! The experience is yours, you don’t need to coordinate with someone else, rely on them to enjoy the show as much as you are and have as much of a good time as you are. And frankly, if you took a chance on a new genre or new artist and it isn’t your vibe, you can just go home. Glorious.
So there you have it – doesn’t sound too bad now does it?! At the end of the day it all comes down to you and your artist, a concert will always be a shared experience whether with strangers or friends. The most important thing to do is have fun.
Your next gig awaits
It all starts here.

UK Travel Planning Guide: the FAQs
🏥 Should I buy UK travel insurance?
Absolutely yes. Basic coverage is not expensive, and as a visitor you are NOT covered under the NHS. Compare policies and prices with Travel Insurance Master here , a big name in the travel insurance business, and cross that off your list.
🔌 Do I need travel adapters for the UK?
Yes, you do, otherwise you won’t be able to plug in your electronics/phone/lifelines. I recommend this one , which is all-in-one so you can use it in other countries.
🚗 What do I need to drive in the UK?
The first thing you need to check out if you’re planning on renting a car in the UK is this guide to driving in the UK for visitors – the roads, signs, and driving experience will likely not be what you’re used to and it’s essential to prepare yourself to stay safe and aware.
🛌 What’s the best way to book hotels in the UK?
For UK hotels, Booking is the best site as it offers free cancellation on many properties. If you want an apartment, I always recommend VRBO over AirBnb.
📳 Will my phone work in the UK?
Yes – if you set it up right. Check out my guide on making your foreign phone work in the UK to ensure that you get the type of service you need.
🚿 Can I drink the water in the UK?
Yes, UK water is great and perfectly safe. But drink out of taps in any kitchen or use water fountains. Double check before drinking out of the taps in hotel bathrooms, though, as they may be on a different system. London water is safe to drink .

Rock n Roll London Walking Tour of Soho
Love Classic Rock? Want to see the places that helped shape rock music? Come along and join our Rock n Roll London Walking Tour. Many of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll legends of all time have lived, performed and died in London. As the beating heart of Britain’s music industry, musicians and singer-songwriters flocked to our capital to make their name. From Rock to Blues, Pop to Punk, some of the biggest names in music have left their mark on this city. So join us to remember some of the greatest moments in popular music as we explore Rock ‘n’ Roll landmarks at the historic heart of the British music industry in Soho.
Tour Highlights
- See the home of British Rock and Roll
- Hear about the auditions that were held in the old Bricklayers Arms pub for a new band … The Rolling Stones
- Walk down London’s famous Tin Pan Alley
- See real locations that feature in song lyrics
- Visit Carnaby Street, home of the Swinging 60s
- See where Bohemian Rhapsody and many other classic rock tracks were recorded
No rock tour would be complete without visiting Soho. This alternative and quirky corner of London has been home to the British entertainment industry for decades. Over the years it has hosted some of the most iconic recording studios, gig venues, pub hangouts, theatres, music instrument shops and more.
The tour will start off at Tin Pan Alley this street was once the hub of Britain’s music industry. Elton John, David Bowie, the Kinks, Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd and many, many more each have a story to tell about this street. For decades this was home, in some cases literally, to London’s music scene.
Naturally, the tour will take you to the venues where many Rock-Gods first cut their teeth and developed their sound. These clubs include the former Marquee Club, often dubbed the most important venue in the history of modern pop music. You’ll also pass by the world-famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, a Mecca for jazz musicians. The club’s founder, Ronnie Scott was awarded an OBE for ‘services to jazz’ and this buzzing venue is still the place to go to see rising stars in the music industry.
During the tour, you’ll find out that show business isn’t always glamorous. As Led Zeppelin found out at their first rehearsal in a hot, cramped basement rammed with amplifiers. You’ll also be shown where Mick Jagger and John Lennon spent some time behind bars.
Many locals will walk past unassuming little doors, hidden down alleys, and squeezed in between shops, unaware that some of the greatest records of all time were recorded in the studios within. Fortunately, your trusty guide will be sure to point them out to you.
“Soho has always encapsulated Rock ’n’ Roll so Carnaby Street was the perfect spot for our own store.” If Carnaby Street is good enough for the Rolling Stones, then it’s good enough for us to visit on our tour. From the Swinging 60s to the New Romantics, Carnaby Street has attracted the Carnabetian Army.
Throughout the Rock and Roll London walking tour, you’ll be entranced by anecdotes about some of the biggest names in music including the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, T-Rex, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, the Smiths, and more …

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Hit 80s band going on UK tour with a promise to play songs from all 11 albums
Share this with
The Cult has announced that they are set to embark on a new tour in celebration of their 40th anniversary .
The rock band announced The 8424 tour, a name which references the year they formed in 1984 and the year of this gig, 2024.
Much like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour , the band is set to perform some of their best hits from across their 11 albums – including She Sells Sanctuary, Rain, and Fire Woman.
The tour will travel across the UK and Europe, kicking off in the UK in October for 10 dates spanning into November.
While this is an exciting anniversary for the band who are back performing together, it’s not been a plain sailing road to get to this anniversary as the band has actually broken up twice in the past four decades.
The band first broke up in 1995 after 12 years together after it was reported that there were tensions between the two longest-serving members and main songwriters for the group, Billy Duffy and Ian Astbury.
In 1999 the band regrouped and released a seventh album Beyond Good and Evil in 2001. This was reportedly somewhat of a commercial flop which is what perhaps led to their second breakup.
In 2002 the band broke up again and didn’t reunite until 2006. Since then the band has released four albums with the latest, Under the Midnight Sun, being released just two years ago in 2022.
Before settling on their current name, The Cult, the band also performed under the name Death Cult from 1983–1984.
In 2023, performing under the name Death Cult, guitarist Duffy and frontman Astbury, went on tour performing some of their best hits under the name Death Cult 8323.
Guitarist Billy Duffy referenced the tour last year, which included a series of sold out shows at the Brixton Electric, as inspiration for the whole band coming together for this new tour.
‘Following up from the great energy of Death Cult 8323 shows, I’m looking forward to bringing that sense of celebration of the band’s music, and the communion with our fans, to Cult 8424. CFFC. Let the ceremony commence!’
Fans who want to get their hands on tickets to see the band won’t have to wait too long as tickets go on general sale this Friday at 10am.

The band appears to be following a popular trend among 80s hit artists as many other beloved bands from this era have announced comeback tours for 2024.
In March, Fairground attraction announced their return and that their four original members are reuniting not just for a tour, but for a brand new album to boot!
Similarly, the New Kids on the Block announced their return with their first album in over a decade.
Singer-songwriter Sananda Maitreya is also set to perform this summer . Formerly known as Terence Trent D’Arby, the 80s artist will be giving a rare performance at the Love Supreme Jazz Festival.

Legendary rock band announce first UK tour in 15 years ahead of new album release

THEY stormed the charts in 2003 with Are You Gonna Be My Girl? and now they’re making a comeback to UK shores after 15 years away.
This Australian rock group announced a brand new UK headline tour, having last appeared here in 2009.
Jet, who also released songs Cold Hard B***h and Rollover DJ, are now on a resurgence mission ahead of their fourth studio album next year.
They are best known for their debut album, Get Born, which spent a year in the UK Top 40 when it was released in 2003. It’s since gone platinum.
The group, composed of brothers Nic and Chris Cester, Cameron Muncey and Mark Wilson, first formed in 2001 and released three albums before they announced they had broken up in 2012.
Chris Cester later told Mess+Noise magazine it was due to ongoing fights within the band.

“I think the band’s been slowly disintegrating and slowly breaking up since the Shine On sessions in 2005 or 2006,” Cester said to the site .
“We just never really talked about it. I dunno. We never really wanted to drum up any kind of bulls**t between us.”
“But really, Nic’s the one who is mainly responsible for pulling the pin officially,” he added.
“I think the rest of us were happy to go on and keep making records in the hope that things would get better between all of us. And like I said things have been strained between us for years now, and we just soldiered on because we didn’t know any better.”

In 2016, the band announced they had solved their issues and reunited, joining Bruce Springsteen on tour the following year.
They briefly disbanded again in 2019 to focus on solo projects, before reuniting once again in 2023 in order to celebrate the band’s 20th anniversary of Get Born.
They are now currently completing an Australian tour before heading to the UK in October.
In the years that have passed, they still get six million listeners a month on Spotify - despite shooting to fame six years before the streaming service even existed.
Vocalist/guitarist Nic Cester said of the upcoming tour: “Get Born was a rare and unique moment of total planetary alignment where we somehow managed to capture lighting in a bottle. We’re all really excited to come back to the UK & Ireland for these shows.”
Last year, they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame for their contribution to music. Tickets for the shows go on sale from 10am on Friday, May 24 here .
