In addition to coverage of the Tour on AgWeb, AgDay and social media, you have the opportunity to attend nightly meetings in person or watch the nightly broadcast online where you’ll receive daily results, scouting observations and historical comparison data from our Tour leaders.

• Corn currently experiencing significant drought stress across much of the area … worst since 1988.
• Season began with heavy rains and saturated soils in May with large areas requiring replant.
• Soybean diseases have been minimal to date however impact of soybean cyst nematode (SCN) has been felt.
• Soybean crop stands to benefit more so from rain that finally returned in early August.

Weather Challenges

• Some years more unusual than others.
• Cold wet May resulted in prolonged saturated soils resulting in near record amount of corn replant.
• Late May rain shut off, and conditions switched to the most severe drought for many since 1988.
• Drought has been the chief concern throughout the summer in southern and south-central Minnesota.
• Stabilizing and salvaging the corn crop.
• Soybeans better positioned to capitalize on August rains.
• Dry weather for much of the season led to significantly less Tar Spot .
• Corn rootworm diapause replaced tar spot as corn farmer’s biggest concern.
• Soil samples taken for SCN showed 60% of fields with high to very high levels.
• Pioneer® brand A-Series Enlist E3® soybean varieties with PEKING are performing well.
• Enlist E3 soybeans is THE DOMINANT soybean technology.

Looking Ahead to Harvest

• Drought stressed crop is likely to race to the finish.
• Farmers should not waste time getting the crop out of the field.

Disease Challenge - Tar Spot

Quoting colleague Josh Shofner:

"You can’t fungicide your way out of Tar Spot.”

• Dry weather conditions throughout much of the area kept tar spot largely in check.
• Return to more normal weather conditions will likely bring a return to tar spot in 2024.
• Tar spot management begins with hybrid selection.
• Timely fungicide applications

However ...

Extended diapause of corn rootworm replaced tar spot in the headlines going into 2023.

• Extended diapause and damage to first year corn from northern corn rootworm is back with a vengeance.
• First year corn without a below ground rootworm trait or insecticide fell victim to heavy rootworm pressure.
• High adult beetle populations in 2021 and back-to-back mild winters resulted in high survival rates and heavy pressure.

• Indication that reliance on PI88788 source of resistance is not enough.

MTG Pro Tour MH3 Amsterdam standings and scores

Over 200 Magic: The Gathering players gathered in Amsterdam for the final Pro Tour of the season, featuring Modern gameplay and Modern Horizons 3 Draft. Here are the updated standings and scores for day two of Pro Tour Amsterdam.

MTG Pro Tour MH3 standings – June 29

Day two of the final Pro Tour in Amsterdam began with the final three rounds of Modern Horizons 3 Draft, shifting the leaderboard around significantly.

Players like Noah Ma and Seth Manfield went undefeated during the second day of MH3 Draft, positioning themselves for a chance to advance to day three of Pro Tour Amsterdam. Only the top eight advance from day two. Players with 12 match wins automatically advance.

Heading into the Modern Constructed rounds, players who brought a Bant Nadu build and had success during the Draft rounds were feeling confident as the deck had a 58.4 percent win rate (not counting mirror matches) from the five rounds of Constructed on day one.

Ma was the first player to hit 12 match wins during day two of Pro Tour Amsterdam, playing Mono-Black Necro. As the first to advance to the top eight, Ma was able to take the rest of day two off. Second to advance to the top eight was Kassis, playing Bant Nadu.

Next to make it to the top eight was Jason Ye, followed by Dominguez after a match he loss was turned into a win due to his opponent getting disqualified . Sam Pardee advanced to the top eight next on Nadu Bant, followed by Daniel Goetschel.

Here were the top eight MTG players advancing to Worlds and the final day of the MH3 Pro Tour.

MTG Pro Tour MH3 standings – June 28

A total of 234 players started Pro Tour Amsterdam playing Modern Horizons 3 Limited Draft, seeking a 3-0 start before heading into the Modern Constructed rounds. Earning a 3-0 start were veteran MTG players like Jonny Guttman, Arnie Huschenbeth, Javier Dominguez, Luis Scott-Fargas, Jean-Emmanuel Depraz, Seth Manfield, Ken Yukuhiro, and Simon Nelsen.

Following the three rounds of MH3 Draft, players shifted to Modern Constructed. All players who earned four wins during the first day of Pro Tour Amsterdam were guaranteed to advance to day two.

After eight rounds, three Draft and five Modern Constructed, the Pro Tour leaderboard featured Jacob Nagro—who went undefeated for the day. Sitting at 7-1 were other MTG greats like former World Champion Dominguez, Depraz, Guttman, and Kassis.

Here are the top 16 players after eight rounds on the first day of the MH3 Pro Tour Amsterdam.

How do rounds work at MTG Pro Tour MH3 Amsterdam?

All players at the third MTG Pro Tour of the season competed in three rounds of MH3 Draft and five rounds of Modern Constructed during days one and two. Players who achieved 12 match wins advanced to the top eight and the day three playoffs, featuring only Modern Constructed single-elimination rounds.

The top eight MTG players at Pro Tour Amsterdam earned an automatic invite to the World Championship. Players who earned 30 or more match points from the tournament were invited to the first Pro Tour of the 2024-2025 season.

Three fans involved in lightning strike during weather delay near 2024 travelers championship, share this article.

The third round of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, was suspended at 3:30 p.m. ET due to a dangerous weather situation — the final group of Tom Kim and Collin Morikawa was through six holes when the horn blew.

During the delay, two people near the tournament were struck by lightning. According to BreakingNowCT on X/Twitter, both people are conscious and alert and were transported to the hospital.

The media were told the tournament would not resume before 5:30-6 p.m. ET. The PGA Tour wants to play golf Saturday to make Sunday a shorter day for the players — this is the third event of a signature event-major championship-signature event stretch.

Update to story at 6:35 p.m. ET: Jason Brade, Cromwell Connecticut Fire Chief, released the following statement on the situation.

On June 22, 2024, at approximately 16:26 hours the Cromwell Police Department began receiving multiple 911 calls of a lightning strike in the area of 6 Pierson Green. Police, Fire and EMS responded to the area within minutes. On arrival, first responders identified a tree struck by lightning and 3 patients near the strike. EMS crew treated two patients who were transported to area hospitals for further evaluation, and one patient who refused treatment. All remaining Police, Fire and EMS units cleared the scene.
