Day 1: Ouarzazate – Todra Gorges – Merzouga

8 am, departure from your hotel in Ouarzazate, in 4×4 for Tinghir via Skoura, the Valley of Roses, the Dades Valley for lunch at the Todra Gorge. Continuation in the afternoon to Merzouga via Arfoud. Camel ride of 1 hour to reach the bivouac in the middle of the dunes and enjoy a beautiful sunset at the top of the dunes. Dinner and night in tents in the desert.

Day 2 : Merzouga – Draa valley – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, dromedary ride, then to Ouarzazate via the Draa Valley through Tazarine, N’kob, Tanssikht and arrive at the kasbah Tamnougalt in Agdez for lunch 90 km from Ouarzazate. Return in the afternoon to Ouarzazate via the Tizi-n-Tinfifite pass. Arrival around 5:30 pm.

Ait Ben Haddou:

Ben-Haddou is a ksar, which is a fortified pre-Saharan city with enclosing walls. It is located in southern Morocco, on the old trading route between the Sahara and Ouarzazate.

The Ksar, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1978, includes some of the best kasbahs in the world. These huge constructions were built to defend medinas and towns, and they served as evidence of the wealth of certain families.

Regrettably, each downpour causes severe damage to these kasbahs as well as the entire earthen ksar. Furthermore, around ten families continue to reside on the land.

Ben-Haddou is well-known for its film business, since it is home to a number of well-known producers, including:

David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia, Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ and Kundun, Bernardo Bertolucci’s A Tea in the Sahara, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, and Oliver Stone’s Alexander are just a few examples.

When exploring the Todgha region, make a stop at Tinghir and wander among the flower gardens, ksour, and kasbah.

From Tinghir, take the road to Er-Rachidia and then the palm grove path. After passing through a number of hamlets and ksour, you will arrive in the village of El Hart, which is famous for the ability of its potters who work with the valley’s ochre soil. Todra’s palm grove is a must-see on every Tinghir visit. You can drive down the wadi for 12 kilometers to the source of the Sacred Fishes with an international driving license, but hikers and sportsmen will be able to enjoy the gardens on foot. The wadi bed looks like a multicolored checkerboard, with fields of cereals, vegetables, palm and olive trees intermingled. This medieval institution in Fez’s old town was founded during the reign of the Merinids. The building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it was completely restored in the mid-1990s. The inner courtyard is lavishly decorated and may be visited by non-Muslims as well.

Chafchaouen:

Chefchaouen is a small town located in northern Morocco, around 40 kilometers south of Tétouan. Chaouen (Spanish: Xau) is another name for this city, which has a population of approximately 45,000 people. Chefchaouen, located on the eastern slopes of the Rif Mountains, has pleasant weather even during the hottest months of the year. The name refers to the two mountain peaks known as “Die Hörner,” which can be seen from the town. Chefchaouen is also known for its many blue-painted buildings, which can be seen on city and desert excursions from Ouarzazate. In 2013, UNESCO classified the city’s traditional cuisine, along with that of other Mediterranean locations, as human intangible cultural heritage.

Moulay Ali Ben Moussa’s formal name is Moulay Ali Ben Moussa. In 1471, Ben Rached El Alami founded the city (a descendant of Idris I). During that time, a small fortress that still exists today was built. The castle was built as a defensive structure against the Portuguese (15th century) expansion in this area. Many immigrants from Andalusia (Spain), as well as banished Jews, came there with the Ghomara tribes. The Arabs of Andalusia (Moors) emigrated during and after the Spanish Reconquista (Castilian: (reconquest) in the Middle Ages. The refugees were then scattered over North Africa.

Morning departure at 9am from your hotel or riad in Ouarzazate to the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou , the most famous Kasbah in Morocco and the subject of many post-cards. This Kasbah sets the scene for many films, such as ‘Alexander’ and ‘The Gladiator’. The itinerary continues along the Ounila valley to the kasbah of Telouet (which served as a palatial residence and the headquarters of the powerful Glaoui tribe). This is where lunch is scheduled, before returning to Ouarzazate over the High-Atlas and the mountain pass of Tizi-n-Tichka (2260m). We reach Ouarzazate by the end of the afternoon.

If you are planning to stay in Ouarzazate for a day or two, this town, just south of the High Atlas Mountains and known as “the gateway to the desert”, offers you a varying selection of excursions and day trips in all directions. In this way, you will be making the absolute most of staying in this town and getting to know the surrounding area really well.  You will leave feeling you have had an insight into the way of life in this part of Morocco, which is so different from the coastal regions.  And, into the bargain, you will have experienced several adventures.

To the northwest, you have fortified Kasbahs and ancient Berber housing set among the self-sufficient gardens and fields. To the northeast lies the rocky Dades Valley, a heaven for nature lovers. Geologists will be fascinated and intrigued by the rocky landscape with the retreat of the ice and the upheaval of the earth’s crust laid bare as a witness to the geological history of the region and how it emerged from the sea.  And then to the southeast, the road winds through the Dra’a Valley’s oases with their innumerable palm trees all the way down to the desert.

All about Ouarzazate:

Located as it is south of the High Atlas Mountains, Ouarzazate is considered the gateway to the magnificent Sahara Desert. For much of its history, Ouarzazate acted as a small crossroads for the nomadic caravans of African traders on their way to northern Morocco. They were bringing metal goods, salt, cloth, beads, and slaves – all a “precious” cargo. But in 1928 the town was taken over by French colonialists to serve as a military garrison in order to subdue the nomadic tribes of the south.

You may be surprised to discover that Ouarzazate is also known as the Ouallywood of Morocco. It has been the location for a great many Hollywood blockbusters with the first film shot here being Lawrence of Arabia in 1962.  Morocco’s biggest studios situated at the entrance to the town has invited many international companies to work here. They have offered an excellent location for several other Hollywood blockbusters such as The Man who would be King (1975), Kundun (1997), The Mummy (1999), Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), The Hills Have Eyes (2006) and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011).   Many other famous films could be added to this list and most recently part of the TV series The Game of Thrones .

The nearby  Ouarzazate solar power station , co-funded by the Arab League, was connected to the Moroccan power grid in February 2016 and remains a forerunner among solar energy plants. Several others are planned in other parts of Morocco.

At the far end of the road, you reach Telouet, one of the most famous Kasbahs in Morocco and a hidden gem situated at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. Each year in early May, this town organises a massive rose festival to celebrate the harvest of the abundant Damascene roses that sustain much of the area. Here, you can breathe in the scent of the prodigious roses and pay a visit to the local cosmetic co-operatives. They create a number of organic rose products from the valley’s abundant blossoms.

From here, the itinerary takes you along a track you would be unlikely to find on your own and where you might wonder if it actually leads anywhere.  On this back road to the Dades Valley, you can partake of a glass of tea with local Berber nomads, who base themselves here for weeks at a time, taking the goats out into the stony terrain looking for fodder.  One wonders how they survive this hard life.

You come out right into the Dades Valley where you will feel ready for your lunch in one of the restaurants overlooking the river. Start your Ouarzazate to Erg Lihoudi desert tour, passing by Agdez, at the head of the Dra’a Valley. Here, you will stop for a coffee or tea break. Next, you drive off-track through the Dra’a Valley’s unlimited palm groves as far as Zagora. This is the last town before the desert, which will be the venue for lunch.

In the afternoon, you continue to M’hamid El Ghizlane. This is the end of the asphalted road and the beginning of the desert. Here, an hour’s camel ride leads to the desert camp in the dunes of Erg Lihoudi.

Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by mint tea and Moroccan biscuits. Afterwards, you can climb to the top of the dunes to witness an unforgettable sunset. At night, taste dinner under the starry Saharan sky. Then, enjoy a small party of nomad music and singing around a fire camp. Overnight sleep in your private nomad tent at the foot of the dunes.

2 nd Day: Erg Lihoudi Dunes – Ouarzazate:

Get up early in the morning, you can climb to the summit of the dunes. You will be rewarded with an amazing spectacle of the sunrise and splendid views of the sand dunes. After breakfast, you will return to M’hamid on camelback. Your desert trip continues driving north as far as the village of Tamegroute. Here, visit the green pottery workshops and learn to recreate your favourite pottery item.

Next, you drive north along the ancient Road of the Caravans to Kasbah Tamnougalte. After lunch, you will visit the Kasbah with a local guide. The Kasbah is completely built out of adobe and is still partly inhabited.

Vous pouvez faire une visite aux studios CLA pour découvrir les décors utilisés pour différents films. Les Studios Atlas sont aussi à explorer pendant votre séjour à Ouarzazate. Prenez le temps d’admirer les décors des films Lawrence d’Arabie, Babel etc. Les studios Atlas se trouvent à 4 km du centre de Ouarzazate. Partir pour une excursion Ouarzazate Aït Ben Haddou

Aït Ben Haddou est l’un des endroits autour de Ouarzazate à visiter absolument lors de votre séjour dans cette ville. Il s’agit d’un très beau ksar classé au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO. Véritable joyau de l’architecture du Sud marocain, Aït Ben Haddou est situé à seulement 30 minutes en voiture depuis Ouarzazate.

Le village aussi dépaysant que sublime d’Aït Ben Haddou peut être visité le temps d’une demi-journée ou d’une journée. Aït Ben Haddou a été choisi par différents réalisateurs pour servir de décor dans plusieurs films. La Vallée d’Ounila où il est situé, mérite d’être exploré pour ses petits villages berbères. La Vallée d’Ounila peut faire l’objet d’une découverte en excursion : la vallée cache des terrains de vergers en terrasses, des oliviers, des falaises. Vous pouvez pousser la découverte en faisant un circuit Ouarzazate jusqu’à la Kasbah de Tamdakht, non loin du ksar d’Aït Ben Haddou.

Reiter, a former star at Palm Desert High School, started his day slowly and was 1-over par through 17 holes of his morning round. But he eagled the par-5 18th to move to 1 under -- a sign of things to come in the afternoon.

Playing the back nine at Lake Merced first in the afternoon, Reiter posted a 5-under 31 including another eagle on the 18th hole. On the front nine, Reiter put together three consecutive birdies on the second, third and fourth holes.

Reiter played the last five holes in 1 under, with a birdie at the sixth, a bogey on the par-3 seventh and a closing birdie on the par-5 ninth to close out the 63.

Reiter, who played his local qualifying tournament at Bermuda Dunes Country Club, played in the U.S. Open in 2022 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. R eiter missed the cut that week in his first major.

Reiter is currently playing on the Asher Tour, having won twice on that tour this season with seven top-10 finishes. He is a former member of the PGA Tour's PGA Americas Tour.

In another sectional event at Pronhorn Resort in Bend, Ore., three golfers with local ties missed their chance at an Open berth. Former Palm Desert star and U.S. Junior Amateur champion Jason Allred came closest to earning one of the two spots available in the 44-player field, finishing tied for sixth at even-par 144, three shots out of a berth. Allred shot even-par 72 in both rounds.

Scott Cherry, a teaching pro at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, finished at 153 with rounds of 76 and 77. Luke Ringkamp, who just completed his sophomore year at Palm Desert High School, struggled to an 80 in the morning round and finished at 154. Ringkamp shot 76 in the afternoon round.

Two past winners of The American Express PGA Tour event in La Quinta also played in sectional qualifying, but both withdrew after just one round. Hudson Swafford shot 72 in the morning in his sectional at Alpharetta, Ga., while Bill Haas shot 74 in his qualifier at the Duke University course in North Carolina before withdrawing.
