MNML MV2 stand bag golf bag in white

Best golf bags for style

Best golf bags: PING Hoofer

1. PING Hoofer

Our expert review:

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

When you think about carry stand bags, the PING Hoofer is probably the first one that comes to mind. After all, it's been the standard in carry bags for the past three decades, and probably the most comfortable carry bag of all time over those years, having innovated several features that are standard today. The latest version of the Hoofer doesn't disappoint. It's still a great carry bag, coming in at a very reasonable 5.5 pounds, is comfortable to tote on the course and works equally well on a push cart or a powered golf cart. A pass-through for the golf cart strap under the pockets is particularly helpful when mounting on the back of a golf cart because it gives the golfer access to all 11 pockets. On most carry bags, the strap obstructs one or more pockets, making them difficult to access or even useless.

Another great feature is the fact that the Hoofer bag has two valuables pockets. One is velour-lined, which is great for a cell phone, watch, or other jewelry you might want to protect. The other is larger, so there's plenty of room for your keys, wallet, and all kinds of stuff. The latest Hoofer bag also has a magnetic pocket above the ball pocket, perfect for the range finder — this is crucial for walkers, who won't want to fumble with zippers gaining access to and putting away their distance measuring devices. It's also very secure, so the rangefinder won't drop out like it could from some bags that have zippers.

Overall, with 11 pockets covering 22 liters of volume, there's a lot of places to store all your stuff, including rain gear, extra jackets or towels, or even a sandwich or two. A pocket for a water bottle is extra large on the lower left side, so you can carry two-water balls there or even a quart-size container of your favorite beverage. It's also easy to reach if you're carrying. Another thoughtful feature is that the rain hood is stored under the comfort pad on the side of the bag to provide additional cushioning for walkers. The Hoofer also has a spot for a sharpie or pencil, a small towel ring, and a velcro patch to put your golf glove, although many golfers may still feel more comfortable hooking their golf glove around one of the straps. And speaking of straps, the double-strap system is among the most comfortable of carry bags and can be easily converted into a single strap for use by a caddie who might be double bagging.

The only possible knock regarding the Hoofer is that some golfers report that clubs can be difficult to get in and out of the bag at times. But that's a common concern for all carry bags, often alleviated by standing the bag straight up to create a little more room. This brings us to another point: The base of the bag moves with the stand mechanism. When the legs aren't extended, it sits perfectly flat on the ground when upright.

Best golf bags for value

Best golf bags: Zero Friction stand bag

2. Zero Friction stand bag

If you're looking for value, the Zero Friction stand bag is a great choice. It comes in under $200 retail, and when you order it, you also get a Zero Friction Compression-Fit, one-size-fits-all golf glove, as well as a matching 40-inch slotted waffle towel that you throw over the club you use the least (a 3-wood or long-iron for most players). That certainly sweetens the pot, but this bag stands on its own just fine, even without the extra goodies.

First off, it's lightweight at just five pounds, and the easy-to-adjust dual strap system makes this a very comfortable carry bag. It's constructed with a water-resistant material, so it's a good choice for any trip to Bandon Dunes or the British Isles for playing in the rain. And there are plenty of pockets with lots of storage space, so you can easily pack rain gear, extra towels, and plenty of balls and other accessories. One nice feature is that the insulated bottle pocket is at an angle to keep your drink upright while you are carrying it for easy access. There's also a slot for a scorecard, which you don't see on many bags, but is particularly useful on a carry bag. And there are slots for a pencil or sharpie, and the valuables pouch has plenty of room for your wallet, keys, and cell phone.

With all that said, this bag also works well for golfers who don't want to carry. It fits well on a push cart or powered golf cart, though it doesn't have a pass-through for a strap underneath the pockets, which are fortunately positioned beneath the strapline, so they're easily accessible anyway. The stand mechanism is easy to open and close, and there are handles at the top and the bottom so you can easily get it out of the trunk of your car. The six-way top is another nice feature, making it fairly easy to organize your clubs. The only drawback on the Zero Friction stand bag is that it doesn't have a magnetic or snap-back pocket for a rangefinder. When walking, we find it cumbersome to have to zip and unzip a pocket to get the rangefinder or GPS device, however, for the price of the golf bag, it's a minor inconvenience.

Best golf bags: Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Speed Stand Bag

3. Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Speed Stand Bag

Planning a trip to Scotland or Ireland, where you might walk 36 holes a day? Well, some of that will undoubtedly come in inclement weather, which could include horizontal rain and cold conditions. Those are the times that you not only need rain gear for your body, but it'd be nice to have it for your clubs, too and the Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Speed Stand Bag has that covered.

That should come as no surprise, though, since Sun Mountain makes some of the best and highly sophisticated outerwear in the business. They simply applied that technology to a line of golf bags in 2007 and have been improving it ever since. In this case, the H2NO comes in at just under five pounds, has a comfortable, adjustable dual strap system, and a flat bottom that will allow the bag to stand upright if need be, say, for a powered cart or push cart.

Besides being waterproof, however, the H2NO Lite Speed stand bag has all kinds of cool features. The bag has a dual-compartment, lined valuables pocket, which allows you to separate your wallet from your keys or cell phone, for example. You won't find any magnetic pockets because the special water-tight zippers are necessary to seal the bag completely from moisture. So access to the large ball pocket, which has two zipper handles for example, does require two hands. It's a bit of an inconvenience, but nothing that should detract from the overall quality and functionality of this bag. Just remember to zip up that ball pocket after you remove a ball, so you don't lose anything from it. The large apparel pocket will accommodate waterproofs and a jacket.  A large pouch above the ball pocket can easily handle a 32-ounce bottle or two smaller bottles. And the pocket on the left side is big enough for a couple of lunches with room left over.

This bag also has an excellent stand system that expands and retracts effortlessly. There's a slot for a pencil and/or sharpie as well as a velcro holder for a golf glove or two. The towel ring is big enough to hold a large towel. And the umbrella holder and rain hood function well, which is important when those skies inevitably open on the links.

Best golf bags for players

Best golf bags: Titleist Players 4 Plus

4. Titleist Players 4 Plus

Certainly one of the most popular bags in America, Titleist's stand bags make for a solid choice that's not only highly functional but honestly, says something about the golfer. It's like playing Titleist Pro V1s; if you have a Titleist golf bag — even if you're not playing Titleist clubs — it tells other players that you're serious about your game. It's a classic look combined with great functionality.

But looks aren't everything, and fortunately, the Titleist Players 4 Plus backs up those looks with lots of great features. While it doesn't have some of the latest gadgets like magnetic pockets, this is still a bag that's highly functional. One of the features we like the best is the deep, waterproof valuables pocket, which gives you plenty of room for keys, wallet, cell phone and anything else you want to protect without fear of it falling out, even if you left it unzipped. It also has two water bottle pockets, which is great for anyone walking, but one of the pockets could be used for a rangefinder if you wanted easy access instead of having to zip and unzip another pocket. In total, there are eight pockets on this bag, including a large ball pocket and expandable full-length apparel pocket.

The Titleist Players 4 is also very lightweight at just 4.3 pounds. This stand bag features two high-grade aluminum legs and a hinged bottom to provide stability whether you're got the bag vertical or the legs extended. And the premium double strap is cushioned and distributes weight evenly, making it a very good walking bag. It works fairly well on a push cart or powered cart, too. The bag also has an ample towel ring that will accommodate most sizes. And the tour-like handle on top combined with the loop under the ball pocket makes this an easy bag to get in and out of the car. The Titleist Players 4 Plus also features two velcro glove patches, a slot for a sharpie or pencil, and it comes in 11 color combinations, including a Navy/white/red colorway that features an American flag embroidered on the side saddle pocket.

Best golf bags: Callaway Fairway 14

5. Callaway Fairway 14

The Fairway 14 bag from Callaway is the answer for anyone who either uses a push cart or powered golf cart most of the time. With a new 14-way divider "Low-Rider" top with a rubber "overmold" putter well, and plenty of space both inside and in the pockets, you can put everything you want in this large and well-thought-out stand bag that works well on both push carts and powered golf carts.

The 14-way dividers aren't for everyone, but this one works well. The trick when using one is to basically memorize where each club goes so you don't find yourself searching for the empty spot when replacing a club during a round. That simply comes with playing with the bag for a while and developing your own system of consistently delegating each club to a corresponding slot.  With that said, once you are comfortable with your club assignments, having a 14-way divider is very beneficial because the clubs never get stuck while trying to remove or replace one.

A pass-through for the cart strap is another great bonus for anyone who uses a powered cart (or a push cart that has straps) because it gives you unlimited access to all your pockets because the strap isn't covering any of them. If you take a lot of golf balls on the course, or you're a collector of found balls, this bag's ball pocket easily stores more than two dozen golf balls, plus the other five pockets are also very large, including the lined valuables pocket, which includes a clasp for your keys.

Although this isn't a bag you're likely to carry, the stand is still pretty important because it allows you to take it to the range or around the putting green and have it stand up on its own, which is especially helpful if the range doesn't have racks for bags. There's also a magnetic pocket for quick access to a rangefinder or GPS device, which is also a great feature if you're using a push cart with the bag. Eleven color combinations, removable straps, new metal zip pulls on the pockets, a new alloy towel ring, and improved, durable fabric are also part of the package that makes the Callaway Fairway 14 a solid choice.

Best golf bags: MNML MV2 stand bag

6. MNML MV2 stand bag

Founded just a couple years ago by former mini-tour player Sam Goulden, MNML is a company that caters to the way many golfers play the game today. The Southern California company's signature product is the MNML MV2 stand bag, which addresses the preferences and needs of younger golfers and golfers young at heart. On one hand, the MNML bag is indeed a minimal product with a clean, sleek, uncomplicated look without excess pockets. And it is made with recycled plastic material, which makes it environmentally friendly. It is easy to carry and lightweight, coming in at just five pounds.

But just as impressive are the cool tech features that most young golfers (and even some older ones) will enjoy. The days of turning the cell phone off at most courses seem to be over, so the MNML MV2 comes with a charger that can be juiced with an included solar panel or at home with a USB cord, and it comes with a Bluetooth speaker that really projects quality sound, so for anyone wanting to hear their own tunes, or even listen to a ballgame, MNML has you covered. There's also a cool pouch on the upper left side of the bag to mount your cell phone if you'd like to video your swing. It is a bit on the snug side, however, so if you have a large cell phone — especially with a protective cover — it may be a little difficult to use, but we love the thought. When shipped, the bag also comes in a full-length cloth cover, which can be used to protect the bag when not using it — or as a laundry bag.

As for the pockets, there aren't many, but they are very functional. And three of them open and close using strong magnets, which is a huge plus, making it much easier to access balls, a rangefinder or valuables. Speaking of valuables, an inner zipped pocket inside the large right magnetic pocket is perfect for keeping things hidden, and the left side insulated large pocket is good for storing a cold six-pack of drinks. You could even put ice in there with them. The front ball pocket, also magnetic, isn't particularly large, so you can't put two dozen balls in there, but unless you're a beginner or 36-handicap, you shouldn't need that many anyway. Simply put, if you're a ball collector — e.g., someone who hunts golf balls on the course — this probably isn't the bag for you, but if you love to golf with a modern flair, the MNML MV2 is a great choice.

Best golf bags for carry

Best golf bags: Vessel VLS stand bag

7. Vessel VLS stand bag

If you haven't heard of Vessel, it's definitely a bag you should check out, whether it's this outstanding carry bag, one of the company's cart bags or a tour bag, which Vessel makes for several touring professionals, including USA Solheim Cup teams. For this report, however, we're focusing on the Vessel VLS Golf stand bag, which is ideal for anyone who does a lot of walking and carrying their bag or for anyone who simply wants a compact, high-quality product that's easy to get in and out of the trunk and onto the course.

Being a luxury brand, Vessel is priced higher than most other golf bags on the market.(The Carlsbad, Calif., company also produces outstanding tennis bags as well as backpacks and other pieces of luggage.) This is certainly a great example of you getting what you pay for. The VLS Golf stand bag, which retails just north of $300, has all kinds of great features, not the least of which is its outstanding craftsmanship and materials. These handmade bags are well-thought-out, especially for the golfer who carries them. Of the 10 bags we tried, none was more comfortable. As long as you don't overload it, it's almost as effortless to carry this bag — and in the case of a hilly course, less effort — than it takes to use a push cart. And while this bag would certainly work on a push cart, it's best designed for carrying with an ultra-comfortable and flexible "EQZ" strap system, nice cushioning for your back, and pockets that don't protrude so they never rub you the wrong way.

The six pockets are highly-functional with a valuables pouch that has ample space for a wallet, cell phone, and keys. Over the ball pocket, there's also a magnetic pocket, which provides easy access to your rangefinder. And while the pocket that contains the rain hood isn't particularly large, it has enough space for outerwear that you might need to store. The rain hood, by the way, is more substantial than you'll find with most bags and fairly easy to attach.

The Vessel VLS Golf Bag comes with a four-way top, and despite its compact size, we found that clubs seem to go in and out of it fairly easily, even with legs extended. The bag also has an innovative base that moves with the stand mechanism, meaning it can stand straight up on a flat surface when needed, certainly making it adaptable for those who use the bag occasionally when taking a powered golf cart or a push cart.

Best golf bags for innovative features

Best golf bags: OGIO WOODĒ 8 Hybrid

8. OGIO WOODĒ 8 Hybrid

Certainly one of the most versatile golf bags on the market, the OGIO WOODĒ  8 Hybrid is also one of the most innovative with several ideas that set it apart from others on the market. OGIO, which is now owned by Carlsbad, Calif.-based Callaway Golf, is also known for its distinctive backpacks and durable luggage. Its golf bags are very much inline with those products.

The WOODĒ top is one of OGIO's coolest innovations. Unlike traditional golf bags that typically put the woods at the top of the bag, the WOODĒ system lines them up on the side for easy access. Each of those four slots (one could be used for a putter if you only have three woods) has a corresponding row to the side for the irons, wedges, and other clubs, making them easy to see and very easy to remove and replace. It's hardly the only trait, though, that really stands out on this bag.

Despite its size, the OGIO WOODĒ  8 Hybrid is a bag you could carry if you wanted to, though it's probably best on a push cart or powered golf cart. Still, the stand system is solid, and the Fit Disc Self Balancing strap system works well for anyone who wants to carry. At 6.5 pounds, if you don't overload it, it's actually fairly comfortable to carry.

But really, it's all about storage and looks with this bag. This rig has six outer pockets plus a pouch for a large water bottle and another large pouch that could work for a variety of things you might want to stuff in there, like a hoodie, for example. Two of the pockets use snap-back fasteners, so they are very easy to access. The lower of the two snap-backs would be good for a rangefinder if you're walking, while the higher and larger snap-back pocket is great for valuables and even includes a clasp to securely fasten to your keys so you can't lose them. There's also a nifty three-ball "low-profile ball silo" receptacle just under the handle of the bag, so you can put a sleeve of balls in plain view. And we'd be remiss if we didn't mention the color schemes — in addition to basic colors like black and blue, there are stunning patterns like Aloha Palms, Hyper Camo, Warp Speed, or We Trust, for example. Those bags look pretty wild, and you'll never have trouble finding yours at the bag drop after a round.

Best golf bags: Sunday Golf The Loma Standbag

Best golf bags for Sunday

9. sunday golf the loma standbag.

If you're a serious golfer, you need a Sunday bag. But not all Sunday bags are created equal. Many of them are quite flimsy, don't have much in the way in pockets and often don't come with a stand. The Sunday bag from Sunday Bag called The Loma isn't one of those bags.

Now granted, this probably wouldn't work if it was your only bag. Its specs say that it can hold eight clubs, but it's really more like seven, so unless you're Seve Ballesteros and can hit greenside bunker shots with a long iron, you're going to want a bag where you can hold close to the 14-club limit for everyday play. But a Sunday bag, as its name would imply, is great for late Sunday rounds, walking nine holes casually with friends. It's also great for par-3 courses, taking a few clubs out to the range or the short-game area for practice or any other time when just a few clubs will do.

What sets this bag apart is all the features. Plus at less than 2 pounds, it might be the lightest on the market. We also really like that it has a stand, as so many other Sunday bags just lay on the ground when you're not carrying them. The quality of construction and appearance also make it stand apart with a cool logo, a great carry handle, and five pockets. The pockets aren't large, so you can't carry a whole lot, but you could put a half dozen balls in there as well as a cold drink in the insulated pocket. There's also a lined valuables pocket and a side pocket that's large enough for a very light jacket. An additional netted pocket would work for another water bottle or even a rangefinder. There's also a receptacle for six tees and a velcro strip that could hold two or more golf gloves.

The only knock with The Loma Sunday Bag is the single strap, which in itself is fine and can be fashioned for right-handers or left-handers. But the way it's attached — from the top to less than halfway down — puts the bag in an awkward position for the carrier. The bottom portion needs to be lower so the bag can be carried a bit more horizontally instead of hanging down by the feet. But you could also just carry it using the very sturdy and grip-friendly handle at the top.

Best golf bags: IZZO Ultra-Lite Cart bag

Best golf bags for lightweight

10. izzo ultra-lite cart bag.

Truth in a name certainly applies here with the Izzo Golf Ultra-Lite Cart Bag. At 3.8 pounds, it's lighter than most carry bags, and most cart bags are much heavier than the Izzo Ultra-Lite. If you don't put a ton of stuff in the Ultra-Light Cart Bag, it's incredibly easy to transport, especially with a sturdy handle on top and another at the bottom.

It's also a great value at $150 suggested retail (and you can probably find it for less at several websites). If you don't plan to carry your own bag, this is a great choice for the money. It fits great on a push cart as well as a powered golf cart. One of the features that make it perfect for that chore is the single strap is hidden behind the bag when you mount it on a cart, which means you'll have easy access to every pocket,

The 14-way divider top is great for golfers who like to have individual slots for their clubs, but, of course, it's important to stay organized so you're not hunting and pecking for open spots when returning a club after use. The advantage, of course, is that with the full-length dividers the clubs don't get jammed with other clubs, helping to protect them as they are physically easier to get in and out. And while we don't recommend this as a carry bag, it isn't exactly impossible to carry with a single strap. In fact, if you're in a situation where you are using caddies who are double bagging, they might even prefer it since they can only use one strap at a time anyway when carrying two bags. But they will have to lay the bag on the ground while on the course because there is no stand (however, the lack of stand makes it that much more stable on a push cart or golf cart).

Most of all, the Izzo Ultra-Lite Cart Bag is a no-frills, no-nonsense solution for any golfer using a cart. There aren't any velcro glove holders — you'll just have to fashion them around the handle — there's no large towel ring (a clip-on towel works best), and there are no magnetic pockets. But you can put everything except the kitchen sink in this bag if you want, and it will hold it comfortably with huge pockets on both sides.

When it comes to choosing the best golf bag for you, there are a few things you need to consider.

Do you like to ride or walk?

If you do both, a hybrid bag that works on a cart just as well as a carry bag or certainly on a pushcart, is probably the right choice for you.

What kind of budget are you on?

If money isn't really a factor, don't skimp. Like everything else, with golf bags, you generally get what you pay for, so there is a difference in quality, depending on the price. Vessel, for example, is considered a luxury brand, both in tennis and golf, and if you have a Vessel bag, you're going to be happy with the quality of materials and craftsmanship.

Like apparel (check out the best golf shoes and the best golf gloves here) and even equipment, how the bag looks is also important. One of the reasons Titleist bags sell so well is that they say so much about the golfer. They're also great bags, so it's an easy combination to like.

What about your climate?

If you play most of your golf in an environment where it's cool and it rains a lot, a waterproof bag like the Sun Mountain H2NO might be the ticket.

What features are important to you?

If you need constant access to your rangefinder (if it's not in the powered golf cart), you're going to want easy access to that with a magnetic or snap-back pocket. If you like to play tunes on the course, then maybe the new MNML bag is the right choice for you.

What is a stand golf bag?

If you enjoy carrying your bag with you during a round, stand bags are the model for you. The best way to identify them is legs that unfold to stand your bag upright. The best stand bags are light enough to comfortably carry around.

It features a double-strap system which is easy to adjust. Another excellent little addition was the marker pen slot.

The only downside I found with this bag was the weight, which seemed slightly heavier than others. This is partly due to being a hybrid bag meant for riding and walking.

If you are looking for the cleanest, premium stand bag , look no further than the Vessel Player III. Seriously, this golf bag is gorgeous.

The Motocaddy Hydroflex is one of the most popular golf bags of the last 5 years, and for good reason. It’s both waterproof and lightweight, which is awesome. However, I think it’s best if you have an electric push cart. It’s made to fit Motocaddy-branded trolleys perfectly.

The Hydroflex is a stand bag by default, but with a cool feature. Its EASILOCk technology allows you to quickly release carry straps so that you can carry it on your back. An additional rear stand-lock allows it to double as a cart bag as well.

This means that if you have a variety of ways you like to golf, the Hydroflex is good for each option.

The Hydroflex also has 5 full-length dividers and 5 spacious pockets to store your things. An external beverage pouch keeps your water at an arms-length, or you can throw your rangefinder in that pocket instead.

The only drawback is that the Hydroflex isn’t on Amazon, so buying and shipping may not be for everyone.

  • Can work as a stand, carry or cart bag.
  • Fits perfectly into most electric push cards
  • Thermo sealed and heat-wielded seams are high quality.

  • Premium material.

Titleist Ultra-Lightweight Golf Club Travel Carry Bag with 2 Pockets, Apparel Storage Pocket, and Double Strap, Heathered Forest Green

Stand bags can be used on a cart or when walking the course. The stand is generally quite sturdy and is made to help ensure the bag does not slip when you place it down.

A stand bag usually comes with plenty of pockets and a backpack-style strap for carrying. A stand bag can be lightweight, or it can be a little heavier. The top of the bag will have several positions to place your clubs. Although it may not always have the full 14 full-length dividers that golf cart bags have, there is usually some type of divider.

A stand bag has lots of storage areas. It will likely include a water bottle holder and a lined valuables pocket. The side pockets of the bag will probably have room for apparel. A stand bag is traditionally considered a walking bag. It is built with all of the accessories that a walker needs.

The stand bag has great versatility should you put it on the cart for the day. There is usually a cart strap to ensure it fits well, and there are grab handles to get the bag on and off the cart. Overall you will find that the stand bag is the best golf bag for versatility.

Sunday / Carry Bag

The lightest weight bag you will find is the Sunday or Carry Bag. A Sunday bag and a carry bag will be slightly different, so we should look at those differences before we break this down any further.

The Sunday bag is meant for a quick Sunday afternoon on the  golf course . You do not need to have all of your clubs with you; in fact, you will probably only bring about seven or eight clubs. The Sunday bag is the most lightweight bag on the market, and most of the time, it does not have a stand on it.

A carry bag can be a stand bag or a Sunday bag. Carry bags are built to allow you to carry the clubs around the course and can sometimes fit all fourteen clubs. In fact, many Sunday bags are now being made with very lightweight stands to become a little more versatile.

If you love walking the course but walk to lug around a large and heavy bag, this is the category you will want to consider most heavily.

If you  play golf  on a cart, the cart style is your best choice. With a cart bag, you will get the maximum number of pockets, easy access to your clubs, and most likely a 14-way top to organize things.

The cart bag has lots of storage space, and the only major downside of this bag is the weight. Some golf cart bags can get quite heavy and be difficult to lift in and out of your cart. The good news is that as long as you are not filling the bag with 40 golf balls, you should have no issues with the weight.

The dividers that a cart bag provides help keep your golf equipment in great long-term shape. The club’s grips and shafts will not rub together, so they will not need to be replaced quite as often.

For golfers that own their own cart, the cart bag also is a way to keep all of your golf accessories organized. Choose something with plenty of pockets, at least a five-way divider, and an excellent cart strap system.

Tour or Staff Bag

Most of the time, tour bags are used by professional golfers. These bags can carry lots of equipment and have very large storage areas throughout the bag. Most tour bags are also leather and only offer a few dividers.

Tour bags are not what weekend golfers typically use when heading out to the course. However, some players want a really big bag. We recommend lifting a few of these before you decide that this is your desired bag.

Most golfers that use tour bags also have a backup bag that they use when they need to travel or they want to walk. Pay attention to what you load into the pockets of the Tour bag, as it will hold quite a bit of gear.

If a manufacturer makes golf bags, chances are they make stand, cart, Sunday style, and more. If you can find a style and design you like, you may have a great selection of bags. Here are the best bag brands available today.

TaylorMade makes a wide range of golf bags, probably best known for their stand bags. TaylorMade tries to appeal to the younger crowd, and they do a great job of making sportier type golf bags.

TaylorMade bags usually come in many styles, but some will have full-length dividers to help keep your equipment protected. TaylorMade almost always includes a lined valuables pocket and a water bottle pocket on most of their bags.

Ogio is not all involved in the golf equipment business, but they are very well known when it comes to golf bags and accessories. The Ogio bags have great features like a smart strap system, lined valuables areas, special rangefinder pockets, and more.

Another great thing about Ogio is that they think like a golfer when designing their equipment. The pockets are always easily accessible, and the bag tends to hold up well, even when playing in poor weather conditions.

Sun Mountain

Like Ogio, Sun Mountain is not involved in the golf equipment sector. They choose to make some of the best golf bags on the market instead. Sun Mountain is known for being a bit more expensive than other brands; however, their quality is usually unmatched.

We love that Sun Mountain always tries to make bags that are lightweight as well. If you want to play in any weather condition with a lightweight and comfortable bag, Sun Mountain is the way to go.

Bag Boy has made a name for itself because of the bags they have created through the years. Bag boy bags are known for having several pockets in a variety of sizes as well. The bag boy cooler pocket bag has always been one of the best sellers.

We like the Bag Boy cart bags the best as this tends to be the strong point of their product choices. The shoulder strap on the Bag boy is usually very comfortable and will not cause you to strain as you bring your golf bag to the car after a great round.

Callaway tends to make bags that appeal to the average golfer. They produce a product that is available in many different colors and styles as well. The Callaway bags always have a variety of pockets and dividers to help golfers stay organized.

Callaway stand bags were a bit better than the cart bags for a long time, but that has recently changed. Some of the new release Callaway bags are impressive and sometimes offered for a few dollars less than other brands.

Titleist is known as the player’s brand. If you are a great golfer, chances are you will want to take a look at the Titleist golf bags. These bags are usually simplistic in design but are very high quality. Titleist focuses on a waterproof lined valuable pocket, room for a rangefinder, and excellent performance in any weather condition.

Titleist golf bags tend to be a bit pricier than some other choices, but this is going to be a classic and high-functioning bag that will make it through many seasons.

Understanding the best golf bags on the market is a great start. However, choosing the perfect one for your golf game can be a bit more complicated.

Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions we get asked.

How Often Do I Need To Replace My Golf Bag?

Golf bags tend to last for quite some time. If you take care of the bag, you will not have a problem making it last five or more years. Some people will replace their bag because it starts to get faded from the sun. If you buy a high-quality bag, it may have some UV protection built in to help with the fading.

Another deterioration you may see on a bag is the zippers and the putter slot. After a while, the zippers can get stuck, and they won’t slide as they once did, especially if your bag gets wet.

The putter well is sometimes not attached to the bag, and it can eventually break off. Outside of these rare issues, most people will not replace their bag until they are ready for a new look.

Are Expensive Golf Bags Worth It?

As you probably noticed, most of the golf bags on our list are within the same general price range. Generally, if you spend somewhere from $200 to $400, you can find something great. However, there are those outliers that are going to be priced much higher, sometimes even into the thousands.

Typically these bags are constructed of leather and will be hand stitched with very close attention to detail. If this is something that matters to you, then, by all means, go for it. If you are looking for a bag with the highest performing accessories and capabilities, chances are this golf bag is not going to offer more than any of the standard golf bag out there.

Do Golf Bags Fit More Than 14 Clubs?

Most popular golf bags will have 14 full-length dividers which can hold fourteen clubs and a putter. Other bags are very large, like a tour bag or staff bag, and you can place large amounts of golf clubs for storage. We don’t recommend purchasing one of these bags if you are just going to be playing at your local course.

You will notice that these bags will likely not have the full length dividers that other smaller bags have. They are quite heavy and durable, but difficult to use for your everyday cart bag.

Do I Need Full Length Dividers?

You will notice that some bags have a 14 way top but not full length divider. Many golfers would rather have more full length dividers and less spots on the top. The dividers are what really helps to make sure the clubs do not get damaged while in the bag.

A divider will keep your clubs from scratching each other. Dividers also help to make sure that the grips stay in good condition long term. When grips rub against other grips, they start to break down.

When you purchase your golf bag, make sure that you are paying attention to both the top and whether the dividers will travel the length of the entire bag.

If you are looking for a new golf bag, here are some of the key factors you need to consider. This is the criteria we used to pick the best golf bags above.

Type Of Bag

The best bags are the ones that suit your needs on the course. For some, this will be a cart bag; for others, it will be a stand bag. The type of bag that you choose is going to be primarily based on the way that you like to play.

If you are a walker, the best golf bags will be those that allow you a lightweight and convenient method of traveling the course. If you play a lot of cart golf, the best golf bags will give you the storage and club protection you need.

For many golfers, it will be hard to find just one bag that does the trick. You will likely need to look at having several bags in your arsenal. Many players find that they have a cart bag for those days on the cart and a stand bag when they are walking.

The best golf bags are those that hide dirt and dust. When you travel around the course, your cart bag is going to get quite dirty. The wheels on the back of the cart will spread dirt onto the bag, and you will sometimes be left with a mess to clean up.

If you have a dark-colored cart bag, this will not be an issue; however, something that is white or light blue will show a lot of dirt. Stand bags don’t tend to get as dirty. Players are more careful about where they are placed when walking, so you can get away with lighter colors on these bags.

Price Range

The best golf bag on the market will not do you much good if it is not in your price range. Bags range from around $100 to well over $1000. Most of the best stand bags are going to be around $250 or so. Tour or Staff bags are easily over $500 but contain extra features and sizes that an average golfer won’t need.

Considering you should get about five or more years from your bag, this is a good investment in your game.

Make sure that the bag you choose has ample storage for the things you want to put into it. At the very least, you should be able to store a dozen golf balls, tees, glove, and a water bottle in your bag.

Some bags have larger pockets to store your golf shoes, an extra jacket, or launch monitor. One nice bonus storage feature are magnetic pockets that keep your stuff in place but are easy to grab into.

When you purchase a stand or carry bag, pay very close attention to the strap that it has on it. Ideally, you will want a double strap that is highly adjustable. The double strap helps evenly distribute the bag’s weight and make it easier to carry.

A cart bag usually has a single shoulder strap that will make transporting to the car and the cart a bit easier. This strap will not be ideal if you are choosing to walk the golf course.

Some bags include removable straps so you can ditch a little bit more weight if you need to.

We understand that it can be hard to narrow down the hundreds of golf bags out there. Having tested and played with so many of these models, we have a good handle on what works well and what does not.

Start by choosing a bag that appeals to you from a performance standpoint. Think about the features you want, a 14-way vs a four-way divider, the apparel pocket, the valuables pocket, a place to put your golf gloves, and anything that may matter to you in a bag. From there, look for something that appeals to you visually and fits within your price range.

With all of the manufacturers on the market and the work they put into their bags, there will be an option for you that will work.

Best Golf Bags of 2023

  • Author: Paul Liberatore

Paul Liberatore is the founder of Golfers Authority , which reviews the world's best golf products and gear.

If you’ve been playing golf for a long time, chances are you’ve gone through a fair share of golf bags. After a while, they just wear out. The colors fade, the edges fray, the zippers stop working and the list continues.

I know that’s been the case for me. For a while, when I was playing multiple times a week, it seemed like I was buying a new golf bag every year. Over the years, I’ve had almost every type of bag imaginable—heavy-duty cart bags, single-strap Sunday bags and countless stand bags. Some have been more practical and held up better than others, but I’ve never been 100% happy with any bag I’ve ever owned.

So, I made 2023 the year I was going to find a bag that suited my needs, was efficient for the type of golf I play and looked sharp. I started researching and looked at dozens of bags, trying to find the perfect one. After a while, it got to the point that I could help some of our readers and share my thoughts on what I consider to be the best golf bags in 2023.

What to Consider When Buying a Golf Bag

If you’ve read any of my other golf equipment buying guides, you know that I stress budget as the most crucial factor to consider when making a purchase.

Golf bags are no different. They can range in price from just a few bucks to hundreds of dollars. Before buying a new golf bag, make sure it’s one you can afford. It’s that simple.

Once you’ve determined how much money you can spend, you must think about how you usually get around the golf course. Do you prefer to carry your clubs or have them on a push cart if you walk? Do you ride most of the time?

As an example, let’s say you prefer to walk and carry your clubs. In this case, buying a great big cart bag doesn’t make much sense. You’ll get sick of taking it between your car and the pro shop, alone, throughout 18 holes.

Conversely, if you take a power cart when you play, a single-strap Sunday bag probably isn’t your best choice. It will limit your storage space and likely sag on the back of the cart.

Next on the list of things to consider are the tech and features you want in a golf bag. It might not be that obvious, but today's golf bags are more high-tech than ever. Pockets close in different ways; some come with portable chargers that allow you to plug in your smartphone, and some even have solar panels that will enable you to charge your charger. How much of this stuff do you need?

Last but certainly not least is the durability of your golf bag. No matter whether you walk or ride, your golf bag is going to take some abuse. The sun can fade colors quickly, zippers can break, seams can fray, etc. If you play a lot of golf, you’ll probably want a bag that can stand the test of time. On the other hand, if you only play a few times a year, chances are you can go with something cheaper that might not be as well-built.

Now that we’ve established some things to remember when buying a new golf bag let’s look at the best ones for 2023.

Best Overall Golf Bag - Vessel Player IV Stand Bag

Vessel Player IV Stand Bag

Vessel Player IV Stand Bag

I can’t get enough of Vessel golf bags. They’re the choice of virtually every pro on the PGA and LPGA Tours, and it’s for a reason. No other company sets higher standards for craftsmanship, quality materials and functionality than Vessel.

The Player IV stand bag is no exception.

Made from the finest Tour-grade synthetic leather, this bag not only turns heads with its aesthetics, it’s meant to stand the test of time. Not to mention, it’s available in colors of black, white, grey, navy, crimson red, and astral.

There’s a lot more to the story than sexy looks, though. This bag is full of cutting-edge tech and features that set it apart from the competition.

As someone who likes to walk and occasionally carry my clubs, I’ve never encountered a better strap system than the self-adjusting Equilibrium 2.0 on Player IV. The straps are super comfortable and self-adjust whenever you pick up the bag. No more having to yank on the straps and readjust until you find the right length of each. This system does it all for you.

The low-profile stand system is excellent. The base rotates to find the most stable position whenever you set the bag down, even if you’re on a slope. Not once have I had this bag tip over.

For a bag of its size, there’s a surprising number of pockets and plenty of storage room. Even more, each pocket has a specific function. The two cooler sleeves are insulated and have a magnetic closure that expands. The valuables pocket is lined with antimicrobial velour so small items like your phone won’t get scratched. The oversized garment pocket has an internal lock pocket to secure your most sacred valuables.

Other amenities include a matching rain hood, carbon fiber legs, an internal base divider, glove patch, bottle opener, cushioned neoprene back panel, and the ability to have the ball pocket personalized.

You can also get this bag with a six or 14-way divider top. Like anything else in golf, you get what you pay for. Even though the Vessel Player IV stand bag is a little more expensive than other brands, it’s more than worth the investment. ( Get the Player IV through SI's partner, PGA TOUR Superstore )

Best Golf Bag for Most People - Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag

Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag

Titleist Players 4 Stand Bag

Like everything Titleist makes, their golf bags are of the utmost quality. The Players 4 stand bag is all-new for 2023 and has been praised for its versatility by golfers who like to walk and ride.

Weighing just 3.7 pounds, this bag is super lightweight yet has plenty of storage. We’re talking no fewer than six pockets. The four-way divider top makes it easy to keep your clubs organized.

In terms of construction, the Players 4 is much better built than many other bags mass-produced by the major OEMs. The zippers and seams both seemed incredibly sturdy. What I also like about this bag is its variety of colors. They include black/red, black, grey, white/navy, royal/grey, blue, navy, white/red, navy/red, red/grey and green/grey. Titleist is a name you can trust, as is the Players 4 stand bag. ( Get the Titleist bag here through our partner, PGA TOUR Superstore )

Editor’s Choice - TaylorMade FlexTech Crossover Stand Bag

TaylorMade FlexTech Crossover Stand Bag

TaylorMade FlexTech Crossover Stand Bag

The TaylorMade FlexTech Crossover stand bag is one of the most versatile. It comes with self-adjusting straps that make it comfortable to carry. However, if you want to ride, the straps are easily removed so they won’t get in the way.

The bag’s 14-way top creates an individual space for each of your clubs. Say goodbye to tangled shafts and clubheads that bang together.

The Easy Chill insulated drink pocket keeps your favorite beverage cold for the entire round. This is a must in the Arizona summer heat, where I play much of my golf. The valuables pocket is water-resistant and positioned at the top of the bag for easy access. Numerous pockets give you plenty of storage and make keeping all your gear in order easy. Weighing just 5.5 pounds, this bag has everything going for it: versatility, ample storage and comfort. Color choices are black, gunmetal, navy, white and launch. The FlexTech Crossover was an easy pick for the editor’s choice in 2023. ( Get the TaylorMade FlexTech here )

Best Cart Bag -  Ping DLX Cart Bag

Ping DLX Cart Bag

Ping DLX Cart Bag

Now that we’ve covered some of my favorite stand bags, let’s talk about what I consider to be the best cart bag this year. It’s the Ping DLX.

I pack a lot of stuff when riding in a cart. Snacks, drinks, training aids, camera gear, apparel, extra balls, an umbrella, I could go on and on. But there’s one thing: I will never run out of room to store stuff in the Ping DLX cart bag. It has an astounding 15 pockets. Heck, the bag even comes with two detachable shoe pouches!

It’s also surprisingly lightweight, considering its size. Empty, it only weighs 7.5 pounds. The 15-way divider top and exterior putter will separate your clubs and give you easy access. I’m also a big fan of the needle-texture vinyl this bag is constructed of. This stuff is tough and won’t wear out.

Plenty of storage, effortless organization, and lightweight and sharp looks make the Ping DLX a complete package. ( Get the Ping DLX here )

Best Stand Bag - Ping Hoofer Stand Bag

Ping Hoofer Stand Bag

Ping Hoofer Stand Bag

Not only did Ping get my vote for this year’s best cart bag, but it also earned recognition for the best stand bag. It’s the Hoofer.

The Hoofer has been around for decades and is one of the most recognizable golf bags. This year’s iteration has seen some notable upgrades, though. The base of the bag has been redesigned to prevent tangling while providing more stability. A slimmed-down pocket configuration centralizes weight for a lighter, more comfortable carry.

At least 16 pockets is unheard of for a stand bag. You have more than enough room to store everything you need. Sleeker, more efficient, and available in eight different color schemes, there’s a Hoofer out there for everybody. ( Get the Ping Hoofer bag here )

Best Tech Golf Bag - MNML MR1 Golf Bag

MNML Golf Bags

MNML MR1 Golf Bag

MNML Golf Bags

Having become good friends with the guys at MNML, passion, sustainability and quality are at the heart of everything they do. Those traits shine through with the MNML MR1 golf bag. Carrying this bag around the course is a breeze. It is super lightweight and made out of 100% recycled material.

The MNML Golf MR1 bag catches your eye with its sleek look and innovative features. I noticed right away that there weren’t any zippers. Each one of the pockets closes magnetically. Not only does this provide an extra layer of security, it makes access extremely efficient.

Technologically, this bag is unlike any other. It has a built-in solar power bank, iPhone and Android charging ports and a Bluetooth speaker to play your favorite music during the round.

What’s also cool is that you can have the ball pocket customized with a logo of your choice. MNML’s in-house graphic artist paints it by hand.

The story begins with MNML, but I think it’s one we will be telling for a long time.

Most Comfortable Golf Bag - Callaway Chev Stand Bag

Callaway Chev Stand Bag

Callaway Chev Stand Bag

When most golfers think of Callaway, they think of premium clubs and balls above all else.

That’s why I was a little shocked when I filled the Callaway Chev stand bag with all my clubs and gear and threw it over my shoulders. Wow! Instantly, I knew it was the most comfortable golf bag I had tried all year.

While there’s nothing remarkable about this bag on the immediate surface, the combination of its profile and carry strap distributed weight across my back and shoulders like no other bag did. As I walked down the fairway, I hardly knew I was carrying anything. Besides a comfortable fit, this bag has some other stuff going for it.

The four-way top is simple but makes it easy to keep your clubs organized and prevents them from becoming tangled. The accessory loop and glove patch are subtle yet essential touches, too. Add in the fact that this bag only weighs five pounds, and you’ve got a winning combination that flies well under the radar in 2023. ( Get the Callaway Chev through our PGA TOUR Superstore partners )

Best Lightweight Golf Bag - Sun Mountain 2.5+ Stand Bag

Sun Mountain 2.5+ Stand Bag

Sun Mountain 2.5+ Stand Bag

Sun Mountain

Located in Missoula, Mont., of all places, Sun Mountain has been making quality golf bags for more than 40 years. Their newest release for 2023 is the 2.5+ stand bag.

Much like the Callaway Chev bag, the 2.5+ is super comfortable to carry. The straps are contoured and packed with high-density foam. Unlike many bags with straps that dig into your shoulders, you barely notice you carry the 2.5+. The industry-leading comfort hip pad only adds to the comfort equation.

Six pockets, including an insulated beverage pouch, give you plenty of storage room for all the essentials. Four internal dividers run the entire length of the bag. This prevents your clubs from becoming tangled and keeps them organized.

What’s most remarkable is that this bag only weighs 2.5 pounds. So, if you like to carry your clubs and pack the lightest load possible, the Sun Mountain 2.5+ stand bag is the way to do it. ( Get the Sun Mountain 2.5+ at PGA TOUR Superstore )

Best Budget Golf Bag - IZZO Ultra-Lite Golf Bag

IZZO Ultra-Lite Golf Bag

IZZO Ultra-Lite Golf Bag

Golf bags are no different than any other piece of golf equipment. Most of them are relatively expensive, but there are some budget options. If you’re looking for a budget bag, you’ll get the most bang for your buck with the IZZO Ultra-Lite.

This single-strap stand bag lacks the frills of other bags on this list, but it has all the necessary components to store your gear and get around the course. The ergonomic Smartgrip handle and padded strap make it easy to pick this bag up and slide it over your shoulders.

The four-way top is padded, so your clubs won’t get scratched when you remove and put them back in. Four pockets provide adequate storage, and the bag has a matching rain hood.

Once again, the IZZO Ultra-Lite isn’t going to knock your socks off, but it more than gets the job done for the golfer on a budget. ( Get 25% off the IZZO Ultra-Lite here )

Best Sunday Golf Bag - Sunday Loma Golf Bag

Sunday Loma Golf Bag

Sunday Loma Golf Bag

Sunday Golf

My first golf bag as a kid was a single-strap Sunday bag. I’ve still got it buried somewhere in storage. I’ve always loved these small bags because they’re simple and efficient. They're perfect if you’re just headed out to the range or for a quick nine holes before the sun sets. The Sunday Loma golf bag is like the one I grew up with, with a few upgrades.

To start, this bag only weighs two pounds. Its dimensions are 4.25 by 3.25 by 17 inches. But unlike my old Sunday bag, the Loma has a kickstand that prevents you from constantly bending over and picking it up off the ground.

It can comfortably fit seven clubs and four pockets give you enough room for balls, tees, your valuables and an extra layer or two. The Sunday Loma probably isn’t the best bag for a 36-hole day, but it’s perfect for casual rounds or a trip to the driving range. ( Get the Sunday Loma here )

Best Junior Golf Bag - Vessel Junior Stand Bag

Vessel Junior Stand Bag

Vessel Junior Stand Bag

Vessel Golf

It’s only fitting that Vessel golf bags bookend our list of the best in 2023. The quality and craftsmanship of their products are second to none.

The Vessel Junior stand bag is no exception. It’s made of the same Tour-grad synthetic leather as all the other Vessel bags. Again, this material doesn’t just look great; it’s durable and meant to last.

The bag also incorporates the same self-adjusting Equilibrium double strap and rotating stand systems. All the zippers are waterproof, and the garment pocket has an additional internal valuables pocket.

Available in black or white, you also have the option to have the ball pocket customized for your junior. We’ve come to expect nothing less than the very best from Vessel, and that’s precisely what we get with their Junior stand bag.

Final Thoughts on the Best Golf Bags for 2023

At no time in the history of our great game have golf bags been so advanced as they are now. The variations in design, style, tech and features are remarkable.

The key is finding a golf bag that suits your needs. And that varies from one individual to another.

To find the perfect bag for you, consider the factors we discussed early on, do some research and, as always, try before you buy.

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

When it comes to the best golf stand bags , the Ping Hoofer is one of our absolute favorites thanks to the combination of overall performance, comfort, usability and looks.

Coming in at 5.5lbs - less than 2.5kg - the Hoofer provided an excellent walk in testing, with the experience only heightened by the adjustable carry strap. Ping have added a new back puck that allows for easy transitioning from two straps to one and, if you want to stick it on a cart, you can, as a cart strap channel runs under the main pocket.

So, not only is it easy to use, but the 11 pockets available are extremely handy and, with nice touches like the magnetic pocket that keeps all your valuables safe, Ping has really thought of everything when it comes to Hoofer. The only slight downside to this model is that it isn't fully waterproof but, overall, it is a truly excellent bag that deserves a spot on this list.

Titleist Players 5 StaDry Stand Bag Review

The Titleist Players 5 StaDry Stand Bag in black

Titleist Players 5 StaDry Stand Bag

The Titleist Players 5 StaDry Stand Bag is one of the best golf stand bags that money can buy, with the brand continuing their stylish, robust and reliable range of carry options.

Adding a new 5-way top, which helps organization and accessibility, we noticed the premium feel with the high quality YKK zippers and a horseshoe style tee pocket. Visually, this bag is smart yet relatively simple, which we think broadens the appeal. In testing, we had the black with red trim option which we think looks absolutely fantastic, but there are multiple color options available if that doesn’t float your boat.

Along with the looks, the bag has plenty of practical features like a Sharpie holder and two external lined cooler pouches to store your beverages either side of the spacious ball pocket, but it is the ease of carrying the bag which is the standout, with the experience faultless. In testing, over 10 rounds of golf, we had no problems with the straps tangling or twisting and, because the padding is not too thick on the shoulder straps, it disperses the weight evenly, boosting the comfort on offer.

Wilson Exo Lite Stand Bag review

The Wilson Exo Lite Stand Bag in black and white

Wilson Exo Lite Stand Bag

To begin with, the Exo Lite is one of the best lightweight golf bags anywhere on the market. It weighs just 3.5lbs and, although some may think that's too light, you'll be glad to hear that we had no problems with the legs not kicking out when placed on the ground. This means that, on a windy day, there will be peace of mind knowing it won't topple over.

Admittedly, we have tested better straps, but they are certainly comfortable and easy to adjust while the comprehensive hip pad makes for an altogether comfortable experience over the shoulders and back. There are also a lot of handy features, such as the magnetic rangefinder pocket. Not only is it superbly convenient, but it also feels super-premium and, if you don't want to use your rangefinder in this pocket, then there are plenty of other pockets, or even an accessory clip, that you can utilize.

OGIO All Elements Hybrid Stand Bag

The OGIO All Elements Hybrid Stand Bag in red

Ogio All Elements Hybrid Stand Bag

Perhaps one of the coolest, stylish and eye-catching bags currently on the market, the Ogio All Elements Hybrid Stand Bag combines exceptional looks with performance. Ogio have broken the mold in terms of their fresh and funky designs and we salute them for their innovative styles, which are perfect for any golfer looking to make a statement on the course.

Obviously, the looks and colorways will divide opinion, but there is a lot more to this bag than the fancy patterns printed on the waterproof lining. One of those aspects is indeed the waterproof protection, with the seam sealed zips doing their job of keeping all your belongings stored in the bag's nine roomy pockets dry and secure.

Another feature that really elevates the design is in the name - hybrid. This bag works excellently for those wanting to carry their clubs because it is lightweight, but also works very well on carts as well. In fact some golfers may prefer to use this bag solely as a cart bag due to its size.

Finally the eight-way divider on the top of this bag, which features a separate section for four big clubs, is the perfect way to keep your sticks all organized and dent free. That in turn makes it very easy to pull out your next club without others following.

Callaway 2023 Fairway C HD Stand Bag review

The Callaway 2023 Fairway C HD Stand Bag in blue

Callaway 2023 Fairway C HD Stand Bag

At just 2kg (4.4lbs), this is one of the  most lightweight bags  you can get that still holds all 14 golf clubs and more. Callaway have introduced an all-new strap and hip pad system on the Fairway C, with EVA molding added for further comfort around the shoulders and back.

In testing, we thought that the EVA within the straps and on the hip pad added a level of softness that you don't get with many other of the options on the market, with the Fairway C providing one of the best carrying experiences we've had with a golf bag.

But the star feature on this bag is the protection thanks to the complete seam-sealed construction and waterproof fabric throughout the design. Water beads off the bag very well indeed so it will deal with rainy rounds handily.

In terms of pockets, there are five in total, with the valuables pockets the stand out. This is because it is fleece-lined to protect your phone from scratching as well as being pretty deep, allowing you to easily store a phone, wallet, keys and more in there. The only slight let down is the cooler pocket, because the opening is too small and too tight to easily slip a water bottle in and out of when you're on the move.

The Cobra Ultradry Pro 2023 Stand Bag on a green background

The Cobra Ultradry Pro 2023 Stand Bag in blue

Cobra Ultradry Pro 2023 Stand Bag

There's a lot to like about the Ultradry Pro and, to begin with, we must mention the straps. Not only were they well-padded and meant for easy carrying, something which was easy anyway as the bag only weight 4.5 pounds, but the Swivel Strap worked superbly throughout the round.

You may wonder what the Swivel Strap does? Well, thanks to a well-positioned shoulder clip, it allows the bag to swivel and move whilst you're walking the course. Essentially, as you put the bag on, it will move to the adjusted height, something which worked really well on sidehill and undulating lies and walks.

Not only is it comfortable, but the Ultradry Pro does exactly what it says on the tin. When we tested this bag the conditions continuously changed between sun and rain but, by the end of the round, our clubs and personal items remained bone-dry, such is the waterproof protection the Cobra bag provides.

Motocaddy Protekta Cart Bag resting on a Motocaddy trolley on the golf course

The Motocaddy Protekta Cart Bag on a golf cart

Motocaddy Protekta Cart Bag

What really stood out in this golf bag is the unique divider. Motocaddy has designed the bag so that each club goes into an individual slot and locks it in place, reducing rattling and noise. In total, there are nine iron slots, four wood slots and a putter well that is large enough for oversized putting grips.

Like other bags on the list, there are plenty of pockets available, nine to be exact, with two valuables pockets and two full-length side pockets holding the rain cover and leaving plenty of room for apparel and other larger accessories. Importantly, it is fully waterproof and all pockets feature an easy-to-open Japanese YKK zip that can be opened with one hand and are seam-sealed to keep the water out.

In short the Protekta, whilst it will divide opinion, performs very well indeed and as such it is our top cart bag pick right now.

The flash Ogio All Elements Cart Bag and its excellent color patterns resting on the golf course

The Ogio All Elements Cart Bag on a golf cart

Ogio All Elements Cart Bag

Featuring 11 pockets, the Ogio All Elements bag has a huge amount of space available for everything you need on the course. To give a quick breakdown of what is available, it has two large side ones for your waterproofs and other larger items of clothing, then there’s options galore for your valuables, balls, umbrella and drinks (with an insulated cooler pocket). Along with pockets, there are 15 dividers, with each of them particularly roomy and there’s even room for an extra slot where any alignment sticks can go.

Although it is slightly more expensive than some of the best golf bags on the market, we believe that Ogio really have thrown everything at this bag and we can say with some confidence that this will last you forever. The detailing inside the pockets and the feel and ease of the zips are obvious signposts that this is a step up when it comes to functionality, durability and quality.

Tackling the elephant in the room, the looks will divide opinion, but there are eight color options available so we would like to think there's a color choice for everyone. Overall though, we think they are very fresh and funky as Ogio look to provide something very different in the golf bag category.

Sun Mountain C-130 cart bag

Sun Mountain C-130 Cart Bag on a golf cart

Sun Mountain C-130 Cart Bag

The C-130 made its debut for Sun Mountain in 2005 and, since then, has been a best seller for the company. It's one of the most popular cart bags of all-time and was developed specifically for golfers who ride when they play. It's worth noting that it will work on a push cart , but riding carts were the focus of the design.

To begin with, the C-130 has three strategically placed utility handles that make it easy to get on and off of a golf cart or in and out of a car trunk. Along with the utility handles, the bag is kept secure during play via Sun Mountain’s Smart Strap system. Being such a large bag, there are 13 pockets on the C-130 which are easy to access when the bag is on a cart.

Highlighting the features of the C-130 are 14 individual club dividers, including a putter well that will accommodate putters of all sizes. Available in more than a dozen color choices, there should be something for everyone, with the bag providing excellent value for money at under $270.

How we test the best golf bags

Our testing process for all golf gear, let alone golf bags, is rigorous and comprehensive. As far as our testing methodology goes, if we say we have reviewed a product, that means we have used it out on the golf course, and put it through its paces in different conditions. We also endeavor to use all the features on the golf bag, for example if the valuables pocket claims to be waterproof, we pour water on it to find out.

We should also say that manufacturers cannot pay for a good review because we tell things how we see it. As far as the testing team goes, the Golf Monthly team is a mixture of ages and handicaps, and most are members at golf clubs so regularly put golf gear to the test in fun rounds as well as competitions.

How to choose a golf bag

There are several key factors to consider when thinking about buying a golf bag and we have gone into those below...

Put simply what kind of bag do you want? Do you want a stand bag? Or a cart model? Both of these types of bag have their positives and negatives and you should think about what you think is important to your golf.

Stand bags are built for those who want to carry their clubs around the golf course which means factors like comfort and weight are very important. Stand bags also have to offer waterproofing as well as strength and robustness. The two negatives most associated with stand bags are they require more effort to use, and they usually don't offer as much storage as cart bags. However, that being said there are several stand bags above that can also be used on golf carts as well so maybe that is a way of killing two birds with one stone.

Cart bags are for those who want to use golf carts on the golf course. If this is you, then you'll likely want a stable model that is not only easy to lift and move around, but also one that sits firmly on your cart. One big advantage we have found is that cart bags also tend to offer ample storage for accessories, apparel, valuables and all the other golf paraphernalia you might need during the round. The main negative is they are just bulkier and have to be taken off the cart before and after the round, whereas stand bags offer a bit more freedom.

Storage is important in golf these days because a good golf bag has to offer pockets for lots of different things as we mentioned above. Cart bags tend to have larger pockets because they are just that, larger. They also require less effort to use too which means players are able to carry more stuff with them if needed.

Stand bags on the other hand usually have enough to house the essentials. However there are also golf bags out there that keep the game simple with only a few pockets so have a think about how much gear you want to take onto the golf course, and pick a bag accordingly.

Waterproofing

If you live or golf somewhere that gets a lot of rain then this is a no-brainer really, get a bag that offers protection from the rain. Whereas if you don't, then this factor won't be as important. We should acknowledge that some models above are better than others in this regard because they have been designed as such.

Across all types of bag, weight is important. Stand bags obviously have to be lightweight because players will be carrying them on their backs and shoulders all day, whilst cart bags should also have a degree of lightness too so they are easy to maneuver on the golf course, and from the car to the cart itself.

Thankfully most brands these days make lightweight models across their ranges because not many players want to use a heavy bag.

How do you want your golf bag to look? Whether it be a stand or cart model, brands try their best to create design aesthetics that stand out, or blend in on the golf course. Therefore have a think about which models you like the look of, or if some bags have different color schemes.

Our final factor to consider is of course price. There are golf bags at every single price point so if you want to go for a premium cart model you can, or if you want a cheap stand bag you can also do that too.

What makes a good golf bag?

A good golf bag needs to protect your equipment first and foremost. It also needs to be lightweight, spacious and waterproof for when the conditions are at their worst. If your bag doesn't provide the above then it can distract you from your game, as your focus will be on protecting your clubs, not hitting them!

Do I need a stand bag or a cart bag?

It all comes down to preference. If you are needing to use a trolley when out on the golf course then a cart bag is going to be better. However, if you don't mind carrying, then a stand bag is going to be more suited for your golf game.

What is the average weight of a full golf bag?

Of course the variety in golf bag design in terms of stand, cart, Tour models, means this is tricky to give a definitive answer for. But we have found that for stand bags, when full, tend to come in at around the 30 pound mark. Cart bags can often be a little more and Tour bags even higher because they are just larger.

What golf bag does Tiger Woods use?

Tiger Woods uses a Vessel Prime Staff bag. His bag also has a number of Monster Energy logos on it.

The 8 Best Staff Golf Bags

The most common golf bags among amateurs are stand-and-cart constructions. The stand bags are employed by players who carry their clubs, while the latter fits onto your trolley or cart’s base.

In this guide, you’ll learn the options for the best staff golf bags for 2022.

The options on this list are heavier than your standard cart or stand bag and fetch a higher price. That is why they are not ideal for casual players seeking to reduce expenses. However, every bag on this list offers exceptional storage room, organized tops, and durable material.

Which staff golf bag is best for you?

Read on to answer all your questions.

What Is a Staff Golf Bag?

What is the difference between a cart golf bag and a staff golf bag, do staff bags fit on golf carts, how much does a staff bag weigh, why do pros use staff bags, what to consider when purchasing golf tour bags.

As I mentioned in the introduction, golf tour bags are expensive compared to stand and cart bags. Therefore, you must be comfortable with increasing your budget. In general, a staff bag runs between $400 to $500. After conducting our tests and research, I am proud to have four bags under the $400 threshold on this list.

The point is that your budget needs to be approximately double what you may spend on a standard cart or golf stand bag.

Read More: If you are a bargain hunter, these are the best golf bag for the money .

Golf staff bags are the heaviest on the market, requiring serious effort to carry them around the golf course. As a rule of thumb, your golf bag should not weigh more than 20% of your body weight. Therefore, if the bag weighs eleven pounds without your gear, it could exceed the recommended limit.

If that is the case, you need to consider hiring a caddie whenever you play golf or look for a golf cart. I will discuss the intricacies of finding a bag compatible with golf carts or push trolleys in a moment.

Ultimately, acquiring one of these bags is not ideal if you already suffer from back pain and intend to carry it yourself. If you wish to hire a caddie or a cart, that will bump up your expenses for every round.

Readers who prefer carrying lightweight constructions should learn about our best golf stand bags  for this year.

Standard staff bags feature a 6-way top with full-length dividers. This allows you to place your woods, long, mid, and short irons, wedges, and putter in their own compartments. As a result, it keeps your clubs in order and makes it easier to find them before each shot.

In addition, the full-length dividers help separate the shafts of your clubs to reduce entanglement. It makes it easier to add and remove clubs. Plus, there is less risk of scratching or bending the shafts.

Storage space is a core reason why golfers choose staff bags. They offer spacious pockets that fit everything from your golf balls and mobile phone to your rangefinder and apparel. The average staff bag features between six and eight pockets for optimal storage.

You will find two products that contain a whopping twelve compartments in the below list. Keep reading to learn which gigantic brand managed this feat.

The diameter of your staff bag base is vital because it determines whether the bag is compatible with a golf cart base. If it is too thick, you will struggle to secure the bag tightly and risk it falling off in transit.

Those planning to haul a staff bag on a golf cart should search for specific bags built to fit on the base of the vehicle. The average diameter of a golf cart bag is nine to 9.5-inches, while a staff bag sits at ten. The additional width may see the staff bag resting unevenly on the base, which is not recommended.

I took this into account during the test, and one bag on this list is compatible with the base of a push trolley. Golfers who prefer a cart to walk should study our best golf cart bags for 2024 .

The Best Staff Golf Bags For 2024

1. callaway golf epic   – overall best golf staff bag.

Callaway Golf 2021 Epic Staff Bag, Black, White, Green

The Callaway Golf Epic staff bag topped the tables in the tour golf bags contest in 2024. I found it provided an adequate dose of space, comfort, stability, and durability. It also prices lower than several competitors in our final eight.

Nine pockets line the golf bag, each assigned to holding a specific item. For example, your rangefinder, valuables, golf balls, tees, apparel, and refreshments enjoy a private compartment. One pocket is velour lined to cushion your valuables, such as jewelry or your mobile device.

Aside from the storage space, I found that the 10-inch 6-way top optimized the organization of your golf clubs. Your woods, long, mid and short irons remain separated, while your wedges and putter receive a slot each.

Naturally, the staff bag carries a higher mass than a cart or stand bag, and it is advisable to hire a caddie or car to lug it around. The Epic staff bag tips the scales at the 11-pounds before you add your equipment. Whoever carries your bag will find it comfortable thanks to a Double Padded OptiFit comfort strap and soft hip pad.

As far as Callaway staff golf bags go, this is a beauty. It offers everything you need from a tour bag at a fraction of the price of its competitors. Therefore, it is ideal for low handicappers with a reduced budget.

  • Comfortable padded strap
  • Soft hip pad
  • Perfect balance base
  • It only contains a single strap
  • It is not fitted with a stand like other Epic staff models.

2. Mizuno Tour 6-Way Stand Bag  – Best Budget Tour Golf Bag

Mizuno 2021 Tour 6-Way Stand Bag, Black-Charcoal

Mizuno is renowned for its meticulous attention to detail, and they continued to uphold their standards with their Tour 6-way stand bag. This is our best budget staff bag, but it is by no means a cheap construction. It follows the standard layout of other golf tour bags. However, unlike its peers, this bag also possesses a stand.

The 6-way top dividers enable you to keep your golf clubs in order, and full-length dividers separate each compartment. This prevents the shafts of your woods from entangling with irons, wedges, or your putter.

I found the double shoulder straps a breeze to adjust, and they promoted a comfortable carry. In addition, the cushioned hip pad prevents the solid case of the bag from bruising your skin.

Mizuno fitted this stand bag with seven pockets, including an insulated cooler pocket for your beverages. Lastly, the Tour 6-way stand bag contains a bottom grab handle for an easy lift out of your trunk. Plus, it is compatible with a pushcart.

  • 6-way top with full length dividers
  • Cushioned hip pad
  • The valuables pocket is not easily accessible, but some golfers may appreciate that.
  • Fewer pockets than other tour golf bags

3. Mizuno Tour Staff Mid 5-way Cuff  – Most Durable Golf Tour Staff Bag

Under Armour UA Webbed Belt

Sticking with the Mizuno brand, we progress to the most durable golf tour staff bag for 2024. The Tour Staff Mid 5-way cuff boasts molded side panels to enhance the bag’s durability. In addition, this reinforcement protects the contents nesting inside.

A 5-way top provides the platform to place your woods, long irons, and putter in their own compartment. Wedges and short irons share one section, while the mid irons hold down the fifth.

Furthermore, I noticed that Mizuno employed eight pockets for ample storage space. Among them are an insulated beverage pouch that keeps your drinks refreshed and a waterproof fleece valuables pocket. I was also impressed that the apparel pockets are deep enough to hold a pair of golf shoes.

Finally, the Mizuno Tour Staff Mid 5-way Cuff is fitted with a stable base to keep your bag upright between shots.

  • Deep apparel pockets
  • Insulated drinks pouch
  • The 5-way top features one less compartment than most staff bags
  • Only available in the signature Mizuno blue and white.

4. Cobra Radspeed  – Best Looking Golf Tour Bag

Cobra Golf 2021 Radspeed Tour Staff Bag (Black), 909483-01

Golfers concerned about their image need an attractive tour bag to complement their fashionable clothes. The Cobra Radspeed stands out for us in this department thanks to its bold black and gold finish. It stands out among its peers and does well concealing dirt patches.

Aside from its devilishly good looks, the Radspeed is kitted with six pockets and the traditional 6-way top layout. The storage space is underwhelming, considering many options on this list feature seven or more pockets.

However, there is still ample room for you to stash all your goods for a round of golf. Plus, the apparel pouches are sizable and make up for fewer pockets overall.

Furthermore, a 6-way top enables optimal separation of clubs to help you remain organized on the links.

  • Attractive finish
  • Full length dividers
  • Insulated beverage pockets
  • Oversized apparel pockets
  • Fewer pockets than other bags

5. TaylorMade Stealth 2024 Tour  – Most Spacious Golf Staff Bag

TaylorMade Golf - 2022 Tour Staff Bag

Some options on this list feature fewer pockets, diminishing their overall storage capacity. However, that is no struggle for TaylorMade Tour golf bags, which excel in this department. The Stealth Tour golf bag contains a whopping twelve pockets for optimal room.

Two hard shell compartments await your valuables, while two additional pockets hold your garments. In addition, the design team applied a Hard Shell Hex side to boost the toughness of the bag.

Following protocol, TaylorMade structured the top of the bag with six compartments to maintain order among your golf clubs.

Overall, the Stealth 2024 is an ideal tour bag for those demanding maximum space. It ensures the freedom to lug around your valuables, equipment, and accessories. On top of its outstanding features, its red and black finish makes it an attractive creation.

  • Maximum storage space
  • Good looking
  • Large garment pockets
  • Your clubheads may dent the edges of the bag

6. TaylorMade SIM 2 Max  – Easiest Carrying Staff Bag

No products found.

The TaylorMade SIM 2 Max Tour bag is another design with exceptional storage space. However, it is also the easiest bag to carry because of its three-point carry strap. The strap allows you to alter the position of your bag for hassle-free carry.

Included in its impressive repertoire of twelve pockets are two velour-lined valuables compartments, along with a dual garment pouch. In addition, two accessory pockets are shielded by a hard shell to protect your rangefinder or GPS device.

Moreover, I noticed they added the traditional 6-way top layout to promote organization among your clubs. This makes it easier to find the correct club before your shot without wasting time.

Ultimately, the TaylorMade SIM 2 Max Tour golf bag provides excellent storage space, structure top design, and a comfortable strap. It suits golfers who love their caddy or wish to operate this bag without assistance.

  • Exceptional storage space
  • Three point shoulder strap
  • Stable base
  • Appealing look

7. Tour Edge Exotics  – Best Staff Bag For Wet Weather

Tour Edge Golf- Exotics Staff Bag

You need a bag with waterproof dry pockets to protect your belongings if you are caught in a rain storm. The Tour Edge Golf Exotics construction is our top pick for the best staff bag for wet weather in 2024.

This bag features seven pockets with dual dry compartments that keep water out from the interior during a rainstorm. The additional pockets provide ample space to store your balls, tees, and beverages.

One area where I feel it falls short is the 4-way padded top with two full-length dividers. This is two fewer than a standard tour golf bag, which leads to a less organized structure. However, it still enables you to separate your woods, irons, wedges, and putter.

Finally, I enjoyed the padded strap with a three-point sling suspension, which I felt made it comfortable to carry. That said, it does weigh a whopping 12-pounds, making it unsuitable for the average person to lug around the links.

  • Dual waterproof dry pockets
  • Sufficient storage space
  • Comfortable carry strap
  • Two full length dividers
  • The two full length dividers can cause your shafts to entangle.

Rating: 3.5

8. burton usa  – most patriotic pga golf bag.

burton staff golf bag

The Ryder Cup only comes around every two years, but that doesn’t mean you can’t relive it every time you hit the golf course. The Burton USA design claimed victory in the category of PGA golf bags because of its durability, comfortable strap, and structured top.

Burton crafted this bag using the colors of the United States flag. Stars and stripes are dotted around the bag, while the USA is printed down the side. This professional-looking golf bag sports six deep pockets to ensure optimal storage space. The space makes up for the reduced number of compartments.

Keeping with the norms. The USA staff bag contains a 10-inch 6-way velour-padded top with full-length dividers. This proves efficient in structuring your bag for improved organization. Plus, the six full-length dividers ensure that each club category remains apart. For example, the shafts of your woods will not interact with your long irons.

Moreover, I appreciated the durable molded bag bottom, which prevents moisture from seeping through the bottom. More importantly, it enhances stability and balance to keep your bag upright between shots. Lastly, the Burton USA Staff bag is fitted with a foam-padded strap to protect your shoulder when carrying.

  • 6-way velour padded top
  • Durable molded bag bottom
  • Foam padded strap
  • Six deep pockets
  • The bold USA branding will not appeal to everyone.

Professional golfers use a staff golf bag because of its optimal storage space and durable construction. Its attractive looks don’t harm either. They are the heaviest golf bag construction, weighing 10 to 11-pounds, and tend to feature a 6-way top with at least six pockets.

Four key differences exist between a golf cart bag and a staff golf bag. Weight, top design, base, and transport mode.

A staff bag weighs an average of ten to 11-pounds, whereas a golf cart design tips the scales at five to 6-pounds.

In addition, modern cart bags commonly feature a 14-way top compared to the 6-way layout of a staff bag. The average diameter of a staff golf bag is 10-inches, while the cart construction pushes nine to 9.5-inches. Finally, a staff bag is built to be carried, and as the name suggests, you haul the other construction on a golf cart or push trolley.

It depends on the diameter of the base of the staff bag. It will be a tight fit for most. But, some manufacturers ensure their bags are compatible with golf cart and push trolley bases. If you are searching for a staff bag that fits on your golf cart, look at the Mizuno Tour 6-way stand bag .

The average staff bag weighs between ten and 11-pounds. The heaviest staff bags on our list in 2024 were the TaylorMade Stealth  and SIM 2 Max Tour  bags, along with the Tour Edge Golf Exotics  design.

Pros use staff bags thanks to their optimal storage space, durability, and their structured top design. In addition, these bags contain waterproof pockets, enabling players to protect their belongings in all conditions.

That concludes our review of the best staff bags in 2024. After testing and analyzing these golf bags, I am confident they best suit lower handicap golfers who stock an array of equipment, accessories, and apparel.

These bags are priced at a premium for a reason. They are durable, structured, and offer exceptional storage space. However, they are heavy and cost a fortune.

That is why I don’t suggest beginners or mid-handicappers operate with these bags at this stage. Rather save the money for lessons, or put it towards your next set of golf clubs.

Before I wrap up, I will leave you with my top three staff bags for 2024. My suggestion for golfers on a budget is the Mizuno Tour Stand bag . Those seeking maximum storage space should look at the TaylorMade Stealth Tour bag .

Lastly, my top choice for this year is the Callaway Golf Epic Staff bag . It is comfortable, organized, durable, and spacious.

If you fancy the finer products in life, I suggest looking at our most expensive golf bags review . Here you will find the creme-de-la-creme of the market. Conversely, those who prefer something simple will enjoy our Sunday golf bag guide .

You really can't go wrong with a Callaway golf bag, but when it comes to which one provides the biggest bang for its buck, it's the Fairway C. The newly designed model includes boosted storage all-around, from the clubs (it can hold at least 14) to the pockets (7 spacious zippered compartments). What's amazing is the Fairway C still maintains a slim silhouette and a lightweight design (just four pounds in weight total). The bag is also waterproofed to the nines thanks to its water-resistant material and seam-sealed zippers.

A few more elite features we like include: boosted protection for clubs thanks to soft rubber dividers and hard Shaft Shield rubber, a flexible base made to better sit on different surfaces and slopes, and a comfortable dual strap system for carrying.

If you are looking for a bag that pushes the envelope on style and innovation, then this is a solid choice. Welcome to the future of golf bags, folks.

Sunday Golf has quickly risen as one of the top bag makers in the game. At the center of its lineup is the Loma Bag, an ultra-lightweight bag (under 2 lbs) that's perfect for carrying the essentials on a par 3 or for taking to the driving range. The Loma Bag is great for the golfer who is looking for a side bag for those previous stated uses, but to really secure a golf bag with enough space to play a round with, we love the Loma XL.

Like the Loma Bag, the Loma XL is built to stay lightweight. The XL is heavier than the Loma Bag (3.4 pounds to 2 pounds), but still lighter than pretty much all other golf bags on this roundup. The XL comes with a double strap for comfortable walking on the course, a three-way top divider for keeping up to eight clubs organized, and an insulated frosty pocket for keeping your cold ones, well, cold.

It's minimalist, making it great for beginners and for those who don't want to deal with clutter or deal with carrying too much weight. The downsides are, of course, the ability to only carry up to eight clubs. If you pack the bag too full, you also risk putting too much weight on the pop-out stands.

The price point of under $200 really sells the Loma XL as a value-driven pick. It's not a big bertha bag, but it will carry what you need for the course—all while making sure you stay lean and mean.

Start here if you want a minimalist golf bag, or if you are a beginner to the game and are still working from a small rotation of clubs.

Orlimar Pitch & Putt Lightweight Stand Carry Bag

Sometimes it's best to go as minimal as possible with your clubs. For the days we hit up the driving range or set off to play a par 3 course, we use this bag from Orlimar. It weighs just 1.9 pounds and features a two-way opening to store about 5-6 clubs.

It's true there are better small bags on the market. Sunday Golf makes a more expensive alternative that is more stylish and feature loaded, called the Loma Bag , for $145; but the Orlimar bag simply has a much better value in our comparison. Think about it: for $70, you get a lightweight carry bag with a stand and a couple of pockets. The polyester material the bag is made out of is plenty durable too.

We say grab this bag if you're looking for something quick and easy to use for practicing and fast rounds. Then, take the money you saved and put it towards a big premiere golf bag or a new club.

The Titleist Players bags a golfer favorite through each iteration. The Players 5 is a sturdy stand bag with a low profile, promising plenty of storage without getting too ridiculous in size and organization. You get plenty of storage space (full-length drink pockets and apparel pockets), velcro spots for easy glove storage, and an overall weight of 4.3 pounds. And just like the iconic hat, you get the classic cursive styling on the side of the bag.

The new feature on the Players 5 (that wasn't on the Players 4 bag) is a five-way top cuff. The extra compartment for club organization allows the ability to carry a few more clubs, so bring on the extra wedges and woods.

Really the only downside to consider is the cost. The Players 5 is about $40 more than the Callaway Fairway C—a similar golf bag in terms of configuration. If you're willing to pay up just a little more, then you can do no wrong going with this timeless pick.

Ogio bags are known for storage and style. The brand prioritizes durability too, which is a reason why its travel golf bags are so popular with those who like to take golf trips. If you want to max out the storage capability on your golf bag (without sacrificing discomfort in carrying) then consider the Woode cart bag.

We're talking 15-way organization top, 12 external pockets, and 2 quick access compartments. Want to show some flare? No problem. These bad boys come in several awesome colors outside of the traditional all-black.

Amazon has a lot of wallet-friendly golf bags, but if you are going to go the affordable route it's best to avoid the cheapest of the cheap. This bag from GoHimal is just a tad more expensive than the other Amazon brands, yet it still promises a sub-$150 price.

It's built with a 14-way top, so you can stuff an entire set of clubs inside. You get a double strap for better carrying and decent pocket space (it even comes with a cooler pocket). Most reviews deem the kickstand to be sturdy, which is significant due to the amount of cheap golf bags out there that have weak and wobbly stand legs. What's nice is even the bottom of the bag is strong and capable of staying upright in a golf cart.

One negative to consider is the polyester material of the bag. It's durable and tear-resistant, but it isn't super rain resistant. So the bag is prone to getting soaked. Second is the logo; though the "Himal" reading on the side isn't ugly (a lot of the cheap Amazon golf bags have tacky logos and designs), it still is super large and visible.

If you are a golfer with a cheap to medium set of clubs, then this bag warrants a look. If you are rocking expensive clubs, look for a golf bag that has more protective reinforcement features and better rain resistance. That's the verdict.

Golf bags do not get more swagged out than this one. Inspired by Michael Jordan's love of golf, the Jordan Fadeaway is a spec'd out golf bag with iconic Jumpman styling details. For starters, it operates as a cart bag and as a carrying bag (thanks to the addition of cushioning double straps). The bag itself is made with a water-resistant polyester and leather material that bears resemblance of a Jordan shoe. At the top of the bag is a six-way opening for organized storage that comes with a black rain hood.

Pockets space is plenty, and each one has a soft velour lining that protects your phone and any other valuables. You also have an umbrellas cinch for keeping your gear dry when the rain starts to spit.

This bag exudes excellence. It's bound to get you nods of approval on the course, and the fact the bag is directly tied to a champion means you might just find yourself playing up to your abilities. The two knocks on The Fadeaway, though: it's likely to lean heavy, and the price point is hefty.

TaylorMade makes several types of golf bags for those who want a deluxe carrier, but really the brand shines the most with its Golf Pro Cart Bag. Its $200 price makes it super affordable for a quality cart bag that has everything one would want: comfortable shoulder bags, ample club storage, and generous pocket space.

Its nylon material and streamlined pocket space makes it easy to move and carry. The bag also has a 14-way top, making it a nice pick for those who want to carry a full set of clubs with ease.

The downside bag is this bag is not very waterproof. There are no innovative features or special details on this bag that make it standout. Instead, this is a classic cart bag that will get the job done and look good on the course—all for a generous price point.

Ghost Golf first caught our attention via it's cool magnetic golf towel. It turns out Ghost makes a mean golf bag too.

The Anyday Katana is a one-of-a-kind storage monster with tons of pocket space and a 14-club carrying capacity. Subtle features like velvet-wrapped top dividers and cooler-lined water bottle sleeves (on both sides) make playing that much more fun. The bag is outfitted with carbon fiber legs so it can stand with authority, and it comes in a waterproof material that has a beautiful leather-like texture.

If you want luxury and premium storage, this is your bag right here.

Stitch Golf improved upon its original SL2 bag by making it include nearly 50 percent more storage while still staying under 5 pounds. The expanded storage means smoother pulls and inserts of clubs from the bag, which goes a long way when you find yourself repeating that motion a zillion times throughout a full round of golf.

We also like the designated pocket space. There's a larger compartment for apparel (like rain gear ), a magnetized ball pocket that can store up to 12 golf balls, and a felt-lined pocket to store your phone and valuables.

The coolest detail about Stitch Golf's bags? It's super easy and low cost to add personalization features. For $10 more, you can add an initial patch that reads either horizontal or vertical.

Tumi Golf Range Bag

Golf Range Bag

This Tumi bag is perfect the executive that finds himself going straight from the office to the course. It's beautiful; made in the same excellence like Tumi luggage. It's made with FXT Ballistic Nylon, a textured material that's tough as nails and lightweight. On the top is a two-way opening made to fit four to five clubs, with hard molded reinforcement for added protection and a hard molded handle for easy grabbing.

You also have small details like: a sturdy pop-out stand, a stand on the bottom of the bag to keep it from directly touching the ground, and an array of useful pocket space that caters to all types of storage needs.

This is a luxury golf bag (hence the $800), but if you are a golf fiend who likes to fit in a quick round or go to the driving range during the work week, then this is an elevated pick that's going to have you looking lean and put together. Say goodbye to stuffing your massive, overflowing cart bag in the corner of your office.

What to Consider When Buying a Golf Bag

commerce breaker

There are a few characteristics to look for when buying a golf bag, the main ones to consider have to do with how often you play, as well as the quality and quantity of the clubs you play with.

Cart Bag vs. Stand Bag

Golf bags essentially fall into two categories: cart bags and stand bags. A cart bag is meant for cart use, which means they're designed for carrying on a golf cart or on a roller cart when walking the course. Cart bags are usually larger and contain more organizational space. The downside is they're heavier and, hence the name, you need to rent a cart (or prepare for some serious energy exertion when carrying around a course).

A stand bag is meant for carrying. They typically have better strap designs (double straps) and are more lightweight. They also have a kickstand for keeping the bag upright when setting the bag down to pull out your clubs. The downside to a stand bag is less club space (the bag has to accommodate a kickstand placement) and less pocket space.

Number of Dividers

The number of dividers on your golf bag depends on how many clubs you like to play with. If you play with a full set of 14 clubs (what the pros typically do), then a 14-way divider is the best way to organize them all. If you play with anything less, then you can get away with a smaller number of dividers.

A common set for golfers is 12 clubs total: a driver plus two woods, seven irons, a pitching wedge, and a putter. But some people golf with fewer clubs than 12 clubs even. From that 12-club standard set, a golfer might remove a wood (like a 5-wood), as well as a couple of irons they don't commonly use. Don't treat the statements we make on divider numbers as absolutes though, as you can get away with storing more clubs in a lower number of dividers; just be aware you might sacrifice some organization while doing it though.

Waterproof Features

It's worth mentioning waterproofing because this feature can raise or lower the overall price of a golf bag. If you're golfing a lot or have an expensive set of clubs, then it's probably worth investing in a waterproof bag. Some waterproof bags are better than others, with seam-taped zippers and waterproof pockets. Other bags usually just have water-resistant shells.

If you aren't golfing a lot or if you have a more inexpensive club set, then waterproof features might not be that important. You can save a lot of money by opting for a golf bag that's not fully waterproof, then if you're caught in the rain while playing you can simply put a plastic poncho over your clubs or buy some sort of rain hood to help protect the clubs.

A durable golf travel bag is essential for protecting your clubs and giving you peace of mind whether you’re traveling by car or airplane to one of the world’s best courses. While there are plenty of storage options for safely traveling with your clubs, we tested the best golf travel bags based on qualities like durability, portability, and capacity.

We love a gold bag that is made with durable materials with plenty of padding to ensure that your clubs make it to your destination safely. We were able to fit clubs, clothes, golf balls, and other accessories into our bags without any issues. Whether you’re looking for a hardside case or a budget-friendly bag, we found options for a variety of categories to fit the needs of all golfers.

Best Overall

Club glove last bag large pro.

It’s built to last with single webbing reinforcement and burst-proof construction.

The bag weighs more than 10 pounds.

The Club Glove Last Bag Large Pro golf travel bag is one of the best-made travel bags we've seen. Fit for a weekend golf getaway , the bag can comfortably fit a set of clubs in a standard-size carrier, golf balls, shirts, shorts, towels, and two pairs of golf shoes between the main compartment and two exterior pockets. Despite the 45-pound weight after packing, we thought the balance was evenly distributed throughout the bag and the inline skate wheels rolled smoothly and felt sturdy due to the plastic wheelbase that is designed for high-impact travel. We noted the high-quality feel of the water-resistant nylon material that adds durability to the bag, which truly feels like it will last a lifetime.

The bag is outfitted with self-lubricating YKK zippers and ITW Nexus buckles that come from a manufacturer that makes military-grade hoops, locks, and buckles. An aluminum stiff arm to reinforce the padded protection for impact during traveling is included. We flew with this bag twice in one month of testing, and it still looks like it just came out of the box. The durability, functionality, and sleek design of the Club Glove Last Bag Large Pro Golf Travel Bag make it well worth the price for golfers that are planning to travel with their clubs.

Best Budget

Caddydaddy constrictor 2 travel cover.

This affordable bag has large pockets that can store all of your extra gear.

The sides aren't padded, so you may want to add cushioning to protect your clubs.

For frequent travelers or golfers who want an affordable bag that can store even their bulkiest gear, this CaddyDaddy bag is the perfect option. Not only is the bag itself large enough to store all of your clubs, but we love that it also features side pockets big enough to pack your shoes and even extra clothing. Even with all of this space, the bag still doesn't feel bulky.

The fabric is thick and well-stitched. Made of thick rubber and nylon, we feel confident this bag won't break, tear, or otherwise fall apart, making it a great value — and it's the lowest priced option on this list. To give you added peace of mind, it comes with a one-year full replacement warranty so you can test it for yourself.

The Details: 27.5 x 18.9 x 14.5 inches | 9 pounds | Wheeled | Nylon and rubber

Most Spacious

Caddydaddy golf club travel cover with wheels.

The interior has tons of room for clothing or shoes in addition to golf clubs.

It has straps that are slightly uncomfortable.

The CaddyDaddy First Class Premium Padded Golf Club Travel Cover has tons of space for not only clubs, but also golf shoes, clothing, and anything else you would ever need on a golf trip. Since the golf travel bag weighs 10 pounds, golfers can pack up to 40 pounds of clubs, clothes, and other accessories before reaching the general 50-pound checked bag limit for most airlines. We loved the spacious side pockets for toiletries and golf shoes, as well as the well-placed straps that can be tucked in during traveling to prevent damage.

The weight of the golf bag is mostly evenly balanced, and the wheels and handles make it easy to carry and maneuver; however, the top handle could have been a little more comfortable. The materials and the zippers of the bag feel durable and well-made. We're confident that this bag would last a very long time and would not be something you'd have to worry about replacing anytime soon.

The Details: 51 x 13 x 15 inches | 10 pounds | Wheeled | Nylon

Best Softside

Sun mountain clubglider meridian travel cover.

There are fold-out legs in the center with wheels that make rolling this softside bag even easier.

Travelers might want to consider a stiff arm for added protection.

For golfers looking for a simple yet functional golf travel bag, the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian Travel Cover is a solid softside option. The design of the bag includes everything you need for a hassle-free packing and travel experience, including a spacious interior for a cart or stand bag, two exterior pockets, and a pull-out leg mechanism with an additional pair of wheels besides the ones at the bottom of the bag. We found it very easy to collapse the legs in and out, and the bag rolled a lot more smoothly than expected.

The high-quality, durable feel of the handles on the front, bottom, and middle of the bag equally impressed us by making it a breeze to lift and maneuver comfortably. While the nylon exterior material and padding feel sturdy and durable, the bag would likely only protect golf clubs against low-impact hits.

Most Durable

Club glove collegiate travel cover with stiff arm.

PGA Tour Superstore

It comes with a stiff arm to protect the heads of the clubs.

Packing the clubs was a tight fit with the length.

Traveling by air with golf clubs can be risky considering the potential for rough handling that comes with checking in luggage , but the Club Glove Last Bag Collegiate Travel Cover with Stiff Arm is made of high-quality materials and includes a stiff arm that is designed to protect gear from hard impact. The adjustable stiff arm is made of nylon plastic and lightweight aluminum, and although it doesn’t take up much room, we had to jostle the bag to get the stiff arm in with the golf clubs. With the smaller interior, we appreciated the two large exterior pockets that can fit some additional items like shoes, clothing, or sunscreen . The fully packed bag is comfortable to carry with top, bottom, and middle straps that evenly distribute the weight of the lengthy bag, and we liked how it can stand up on its own.

After flying with this Club Glove design, there weren’t any scuffs or damage to the bag. The exterior of the bag is made of water-resistant ballistic nylon fabric, and the backing has single webbing reinforcement — a common fabric used for climbing, military gear, and parachutes.

Best Portability

Izzo golf high roller.

There are six wheels on the bottom of the bag so you can roll it upright.

It feels slightly top-heavy.

The Izzo High Roller golf bag impressed us with how easy it was to transport by wheeling or carrying it. The six wheels on the bottom of the bag make it possible to push or pull it while it's standing upright. In addition, the bag can collapse down to just 12 inches for easy storage while traveling or at home.

While the bag felt a little top-heavy while we wheeled through an airport, the handles made it easy to lift and hold onto while rolling the bag. Even if the bag were to fall over, it has a solid amount of protective padding on the inside and outside, and it’s made with tear-resistant nylon that feels sturdy and durable. The interior of the bag is large enough for golf clubs and extra shirts, and the exterior pocket is big enough for a pair of golf shoes, but it was a tighter fit than we would’ve preferred. We think the Izzo High Roller bag is perfect for golfers who could benefit from having exceptional portability and durability while traveling through airports.

Best Hybrid

Caddydaddy golf travel bag cover with hard case top.

Only the top half is made with a hardside material, which makes storing the bag much easier.

It feels top-heavy when you're carrying it.

The CaddyDaddy Enforcer Golf Travel Bag Cover With Hard Case Top is designed with traveling golfers in mind, especially those who live in big cities with limited storage space. This golf bag has a unique design in which the top half is a hardside case and the bottom half is softside. The partial hardside design gives you the protection you want for your clubs, and we love how the bag can compress into itself, making it more space efficient for storing when not in use.

The exterior of the bag has two pockets for storing balls or shoes, and although there aren’t any pockets on the inside, there was a good amount of room left over for clothes. Though the hardside top makes it slightly top heavy, the bag maneuvers well on the inline skate wheels at the bottom, while the top, bottom, and center handle make it easy to lift the bag into a car or onto a weight scale at the airport.

Best Lightweight

Tourtrek tc pro travel cover.

Dick's Sporting Goods

This bag feels lightweight whether you're pushing it or pulling it over a variety of surfaces.

The interior of the bag could be bigger.

The TourTrek TC Pro Travel Cover offers an abundance of protective padding and excellent portability. We think this bag is a fantastic value thanks to durable design and interior space that’s roomy enough for a set of golf clubs and two mesh pockets for accessories, as well as an exterior pocket for a pair of shoes. The cushioning is very generous, and the bag feels protective and sturdy with 360-degree padding to keep your golf clubs safe whether you’re traveling by air or car. The handles are padded as well, making them comfortable to hold onto while lifting or rolling the bag. And it includes a lock and key set for an additional layer of security and peace of mind.

Weighing just 6.6 pounds, this golf travel bag is lightweight and takes up less of the allotted 50-pound weight maximum that most airlines limit checked bags to. While we think the interior could be a little bit bigger, this golf travel bag has high-quality features that lead us to believe it will protect golf clubs through rough travels and last a long time with prolonged use, too.

The Details: 52 x 14 x 14 inches | 6.6 pounds | Wheeled | Nylon

Best Design

Stitch multi use traveler.

It's incredibly portable and easy to maneuver.

The bag is not very padded.

The Stitch Multi Use Traveler (or MUT) is really unique for a travel golf bag. It fits a ton of gear including shoes, outerwear, and accessories. When we checked this bag to bring it on a trip to Florida, it held six pairs of shoes, two rain jackets , a dopp kit, and plenty of golf balls and towels, in addition to the golf clubs. The design is where this bag shines — its nylon exterior is durable but has a premium look; the orange zippers pop and make it easy to spot on an oversize luggage pile; and the handles are in convenient, cohesive places.

The wheels are great, and while it occasionally felt imbalanced, we think that was due to overpacking as we found it much easier to maneuver the bag when packed with clubs alone. While the bag is not padded, it is made of durable, sturdy nylon that doesn't show scuffs or minor tears.

The Details: 22.8 x 12 x 12 inches | Wheeled | Nylon

Best Splurge

Tumi sport golf travel case.

This Tumi bag is spacious and rolls easily.

We wish it had more internal pockets to help with organization.

We flew with this bag carrying clubs in a standard golf cart bag, shoes, hats, a speaker , and a few other accessories. The case was easy to drag through the parking lot, into the airport tram, and up and down escalators. The wheels were slick and easily turned around reasonably tight corners and around slow airport travelers. Additionally, the side handles are convenient for lifting the case up horizontally to put it in and out of vehicles. It was also easy to pull on and off of the baggage claim belt as a result of the handles and big wheels at the bottom of the case.

The external zippers have very long pulls that were easy to maneuver and slide around the case. The clubs themselves are secured by two straps with a standard quick release buckle on a one-inch nylon strap. The main compartment is padded all around and has as special layer of padding for the club heads. Padding around the club heads is important because in transit they can typically bang together/bang into other external objects and become damaged. This is not something we worried about at all using this case. The exterior of the case did have some scruffs and scrapes after landing, but the fact that all internal items were well-protected makes this a high-quality choice.

Travel + Leisure / Michael Weisbaum

We had our expert Travel + Leisure golfers take 21 golf travel bags on the road to find out which ones will keep your clubs safe whether you’re flying or driving. We evaluated the bags by flying, driving, walking around, and carrying the bags, taking detailed notes on the capacity, design, durability, and portability.

Our team members packed their golf clubs into the travel bags and noted how easy it was to place the clubs into them and if there was room leftover for clothes, shoes, golf balls, or other accessories between the main compartment and any pockets. While packing the bags, we checked the quality of the zippers and buckles, as well as how much padding there was and if it felt sufficient for protecting the clubs. We looked for spacious bags that had extra room leftover after packing our golf clubs. We also loved the bags that had thoughtful and intuitive features that had golfers in mind because they made packing easier.

After packing up the travel bags, our traveling golfers tested portability by carrying and wheeling the bags to get a feel for how they maneuvered. The top performing bags for portability were exceptionally easy to lift and wheel with comfortable, padded straps and handles. The most durable bags stood up well to car and plane travel, with no damage to the exterior or items on the interior. We determined that the bags with the best value performed as or better than expected given the price, especially pricier bags that needed robust justification for the cost.

Other Golf Travel Bags We Liked

While we found plenty of well-performing golf travel bags, there were a few that almost made our list of best golf travel bags but fell short during testing.

Samsonite Golf Deluxe 3-piece Travel Set : The bag is functional and has a sleek design, but there isn’t much padding, and the zippers are plastic, which made us question the durability of the bag while flying.

Samsonite Hard Side Golf Case : This hardside case feels durable, but it doesn't have much give, so it was a tight fit to get the golf clubs in, and the case is difficult to store since it can’t break down.

Amazon Basics Soft-sided Golf Travel Bag : This bag is very affordable but has an unstructured bottom, so it can't stand up on its own.

SKB Cases ATA Deluxe Standard Hard Travel Golf Case : This case was built to withstand a lot of rough handling and has TSA-approved locks, but can become heavy due to its thick plastic.

Bag Boy Golf T10 Hard Top Cover : For minimalist golfers, this simple bag fits just what you need, but won't give you room for extra equipment or gear.

Other Golf Gear You May Need

When you're heading out for a long day on the course, be sure you're prepared with everything you need, from sunscreen to golf gloves, to ensure you stay completely focused on enjoying the game.

Titleist Players Flex Men’s Golf Glove : These high-performance gloves are a classic for a reason. The cabretta leather is silky smooth, offering optimal comfort and breathability so your hands won't sweat midswing. Plus, the Satin Net materials across the knuckles provide plenty of flexibility.

Peter Millar Solid Performance Jersey Polo : If you're someone who gets caught up in the game and forgets to reapply sunscreen, this golf shirt is for you. Not only is it made of moisture-wicking materials available in 13 vibrant colors, but it also provides UPF 50+ sun protection so you can stay safe without even thinking about it.

Adidas Men's Tour360 22 Golf Shoes : These shoes provide excellent cushioning to keep you comfortable all day long and still feature 11 metal spikes for traction and grip. They're also designed with roomy toe boxes and heel reinforcement to ensure your foot stays in place.

Tips for Buying a Golf Travel Bag

Consider buying a stiff arm .

Whether you’re buying a hardside or softside golf travel bag, a stiff arm can add another layer of protection to your golf clubs. A stiff arm is usually an adjustable metal rod with a plastic disc at the the top of it that extends longer than the driver or longest golf club. The rod is placed into a golf bag to absorb the hit if the bag is tossed around, and it prevent the clubs from being directly impacted.

Hardside versus softside

When looking for a travel golf bag, you'll want to look at durability and padding. Both hardside and softside golf travel bags can prevent damage to your golf clubs while traveling and are a worthwhile investment for golfers that travel several times per year. As with luggage, hardside bags have a firm exterior generally made of materials like polycarbonate, whereas softside bags are a bit more flexible and made of soft materials like nylon.

A hardside bag can get more scuffed than a softside golf bag, but you might not need to buy a stiff arm since a hard case offers a more structured layer of protection. On the other hand, a softside bag might need extra protection like a stiff arm, but it’s easier to store a soft bag than a bulky hardside case that you can't flatten or fold down. Some airlines will only cover damaged or lost clubs that are in a hardside case, so be sure to check with the airline to find out the exact policies.

Look at the types of wheels

From upright wheels to inline skate wheels, golf bags are created with a variety of options to make transport easier for all types of players. You should look at wheels that will smoothly and easily roll over different terrains without adding weight to the overall bag.

Frequently Asked Questions

You’ll want to make sure your golf bag and clubs can fit in a travel bag. While you don’t want to squeeze your clubs inside, you won’t want them swimming in a roomy case either. It helps to wrap club heads in a towel or other soft fabric to prevent the irons from banging together in transit. If there is extra room in your travel bag, stuffing the sides with more clothing or towels can help keep everything in place, especially if you’re flying. If you can remove and cover the club heads, that can further prevent damage to your gear. Some travel golf bags also have space for shoes and accessories, so be sure to utilize pockets to keep your gear organized and separated.

Every airline will be different, but most follow the same policies as regular checked luggage regarding weight and size limitations. The weight limit for checked luggage, including golf clubs, is almost always 50 pounds or less. If your bag weighs more, there will likely be a surcharge fee. Airlines also have different restrictions and policies for packing golf shoes or balls in your bag, and coverage for lost golf bags can be dependent on the type of golf travel bag. For peace of mind, consider securing an AirTag holder with a tracker to your golf bag.

Generally, airlines do not pay travelers for damaged golf clubs. Some, like American Airlines , may compensate if the equipment traveled in a hardside case that is visibly damaged and was properly packed, but you should always check your specific airline's policies before flying to guarantee safe and secure travel.

Best golf bag 2024: Up your game with the top golf bags from £35

Best golf bag 2024

The best golf bags to match all requirements, whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned pro

Even if you own the best golf clubs , best golf shoes and best golf gloves that money can buy, you’re not going to have a good time on the course until you’ve invested in one of the game’s least glamorous accessories – a practical golf bag.

The best golf bags on the market are durable, lightweight and affordable, allowing you to focus on what’s really important: getting round your local course in fewer strokes than your opponents.

There are a whole host of different golf bags on the market, designed to suit all ages, abilities and budgets. To help you cut through the noise, we’re here to give you the lowdown on the best that money can buy.

Best golf bag: At a glance

How to choose the best golf bag for you, what type of golf bag do i need.

Though it serves a simple purpose, you may be surprised to learn that there are three core genres of golf bag on the market.

Stand bag: This is the most common type of bag that you’ll see at your local course. Stand bags are defined by the fact that, you guessed it, they come with a stand attached. This means you can avoid having to lie your clubs down on the fairway (or in the rough) when playing a stroke. Usually lighter than either cart bags or tour bags, stand bags are almost always carried over the shoulder or on your back. As a result, they are usually preferred by younger players who have a good level of fitness and are less at risk of injuries.

Cart bag: By design, cart bags are built to be attached to a trolley or strapped onto the back of a golf buggy. They are usually heavier than stand bags, and feature more storage space that can be used for shoes, clothes, golf balls and more. Cart bags are therefore popular with older players or those who struggle to complete 18 holes while carrying their golf bag.

Tour bag: Top-of-the-line tour bags are the Rolls-Royces of the golf bag world. Usually used by low handicappers and almost every tour pro, tour bags are the heaviest of all, featuring space for at least 14 clubs as well as a whole host of other golfing accessories.

When should I buy a golf bag?

Put simply, you shouldn’t be going out on the course until you’ve invested in a decent golf bag. Carrying your clubs by hand is predictably impractical, and any course worth its salt will have a policy in place that states that players may not share bags, for fear of slowing down the pace of play.

If you already own a golf bag but it’s beginning to leak, develop holes or generally show signs of wear and tear, it could be the right time to buy a new one. The last thing you want to be worrying about when putting to win the game is your worn-out golf bag sitting beside the green.

How much should I be looking to spend?

Golf bags vary in price, starting as low as £50 for smaller basic models all the way up to £500 and beyond for the very best golf bags on the market.

For the average golfer, we’d recommend spending somewhere in the region of £100-£250. That way, you can pick up a solid mid-range golf bag with a wide feature set, without compromising on quality or durability.

If you’re an avid follower of the game, you’ll see these bags at every professional event all over the world, designed to carry everything you could possibly need on the course and look good while doing it.

The best golf bags are versatile, come with numerous pockets and are made to last. After all, golf is probably the only sport that has so much gear, you’re essentially required to carry a bag to lug it all around. (Not using a bag isn’t illegal or anything, but you’d look crazy without one).

Luckily, there are golf bags to suit any type of player, from the professional level down to the weekend warrior, from cart-devotees to those who think that walking is the only way to enjoy a golf course. Read on to see our favorite golf bags, from an iconic Titleist silhouette to professional-grade stand bags made with premium materials.

How We Tested

collage of four golf bags

To test the best golf bags, we got our hands on a number of new bags our testers hadn’t tried before. We also took recommendations from friends of Gear Patrol that play golf, in one case even getting one of our dads involved (50 years of golf experience goes a long way).

We focused on carry bags that were geared toward walking, simply because those are the most versatile and make the most sense for the majority of golfers. That doesn’t mean we only tested their carrying capabilities, though. We walked with our bags, lugged them to the range, toted them to simulators and strapped them into golf carts as well. We played nine, 18, even 36 holes in a day.

It’s safe to say we put these bags through the wringer, so now it’s up to you to decide which is the right bag for you.

Ping Hoofer

ping Hoofer Stand Golf Bag green

Ping Hoofer Stand Golf Bag

  • $275.00 at Dick's Sporting Goods
  • Plenty of storage
  • Comfortable backpack straps for carrying
  • Can easily be used on a cart with the cart strap channel
  • On the higher end price-wise
  • Pockets: 11
  • Weight: 5.5 pounds

The Ping Hoofer has long been considered the pinnacle of versatile golf bags. In our testing, we found this handy, well-built bag to be nothing short of spectacular. While this standard version is a stand bag, it can also be used when riding the cart thanks to a cart strap channel. Many of the 11 pockets are placed for easy access even when on the back of a cart, and the five-way divider can fit a full 14 clubs without issue.

Where the Hoofer truly shines, though, is walking rounds. The stand mechanism operates fluidly and was a godsend for our tester, who had been using an old MacGregor bag from the 1980s with no stand legs. The backpack straps are soft and durable, while the strap puck allows it to easily convert between double and single strap profiles. The cushioned hip pad adds another level of comfort that keeps this lightweight bag from feeling like a burden while walking down fairways (and in the thick stuff, too).

Another great feature is the perfect placement of the insulated water bottle sleeve, which happens to be right where our tester’s left hand rested while carrying the bag. While there are bags that you’d spend less on and be happy with, the value you get and the long-term quality are worth spending that little bit extra.

Stitch Golf SL2

sl2 colorblock

Stitch SL2 Golf Bag

  • $290.00 at stitchgolf.com
  • High-quality construction and materials
  • Two carry strap options
  • Pocketing leaves something to be desired
  • Weight: 4 pounds

Stitch Golf was created in 2012, when its founder was inspired by the racing strip on a 1958 Porsche. He mused that the stripe could be incorporated into leather headcovers. Fast forward to 2018, and the brand built a company based on the convergence of motorsports and golf. Nowadays, you’ll find a full lineup of golf bags and travel gear when you head to Stitch’s website .

We got our hands on an SL2 bag to test and were immediately impressed with the quality and attention to detail. The lines are smooth, much like the lines on a sports car, and, for a bag that is super comfortable to carry, it’s got a hardy construction that feels like it’ll last forever. There’s ample space for all of your golf gear, too.

The only real complaint we had when testing was that the bag’s pockets can be difficult to get into. This will probably relax over time and use, but at first, it can be a bit frustrating. The bag comes with two strap options that are easy to interchange — you can opt for a single, padded carry strap or backpack-style straps, both of which are great options. Overall, the bag is a welcome upgrade to bags made by legacy brands.

Titleist Players 4 Carbon

titleist players 4 carbon

Titleist Players 4 Carbon Stand Bag

  • $269.99 at pgatoursuperstore.com
  • Clean looks you expect from Titleist
  • Comfortable backpack strap
  • Weight makes it feel a bit flimsy
  • Weight: 2.8 pounds

Coming in at just under three pounds, the Players 4 Carbon is easily one of the lightest bags we tested, closest in mass to the Sunday bag listed below. Unlike that option, however, the Players 4 Carbon is a full-size carry bag that can easily fit a full set of 14 clubs, in addition to all your gear.

It has clever features that our tester loved, like a velcro glove patch and external water bottle sleeve. The carbon legs and ultra-lightweight four-way cuff at the top keep things easy on your back, too. The durable rip-stop material is pliable and easy to work with, while the backpack straps are supremely comfortable for an entire round (and more). Finally, it comes with a Tour-inspired rain hood — and has the clean looks you’d expect from Titleist, which is, undeniably, one of the classiest brands in the game.

Vessel Player IV Stand

Vessel Player IV Stand

  • $395.00 at vesselgolf.com
  • Made from Tour-grade synthetic leather
  • Antimicrobial personals pockets
  • Versatility comes with a hefty price tag
  • One of the heaviest options on our list
  • Weight: 6.76 pounds (6-way divider), 7.15 pounds (14-way divider)

Vessel’s bags are known far and wide as some of the best in the sport — you’ll even find pros using its bags during tournament play. The Player IV is an ideal solution for the golfer who wants a bag they can walk with but generally relies on a cart or walking cart to carry their essentials. At over six pounds, it’s not the lightest option, but thanks to its proprietary ergonomic backpack strap and thoughtfully-designed strap-attachment points, you won’t even notice the weight.

You’ll see the quality from the moment you get the bag — the synthetic leather feels ultra-luxe, the snap-shut magnetic rangefinder pocket is a signature touch and insulated bottle sleeves keep your liquids cool (or warm). Finally, if you’re hyper-organized, you can pick up a 14-divider version, which has an individual spot for each club in your set.

Jones Players Series Golf Bag

Jones Players Series Carry Bag

Jones Players Series Carry Bag

  • $25.00 at carlsgolfland.com $189.99 (87% off)
  • Incredibly stylish
  • Comfortable strap for carrying
  • A bit small for a golf bag
  • No stand legs
  • Weight: 3 pounds

Jones makes bags for players who like to hit the course on foot. The Player Series is lightweight and minimalist, though that doesn’t mean it’s short on features. The plush strap is comfortable and easy to throw over your shoulder, while the pockets are easy to get to and spacious enough to keep everything you need close by. It’s got a mesh pocket big enough to hold a water bottle and the bag’s classic looks are undeniably stylish.

Sunday Loma XL

sunday golf loma xl

  • Padded backpack straps
  • Insulated can pocket
  • No built-in rain hood, but available at an additional cost
  • Only fits 8 clubs
  • Weight: 3.4 pounds

Sunday’s Loma XL bag was recommended to our tester by a friend at a local simulator range, so when she had a chance to test one for Gear Patrol, she jumped at the opportunity. The lightweight, compact golf bag packs a punch, and it’s perfect for playing with a light set for pitch and putt, no-cart play or the range. It’s replaced her old range bag for a few reasons: the easy-to-use stand, sturdy grip, lightweight build, and ample pockets — including an insulated can pocket. It’s also stylish.

The stand is smartly designed, with no need to use both sets of hands to adjust it: simply press the front of the bag into the ground, and the legs will automatically extend. The bag can only sit upright when the stand is extended — which is easy to do — but it takes some getting used to.

TaylorMade Vessel Lite Lux Stand Bag

taylormade 2022 vessel lite lux stand bag

  • $399.99 at Dick's Sporting Goods
  • All the bells and whistles you could hope for
  • $400 is a lot, even at the high end of the pricing spectrum
  • Weight: 4.5 pounds

If you’ve been around golf for any amount of time, you know Taylor Made. We love the brand’s gear, whether it’s clubs, gloves or bags, and the Vessel Lite Lux Stand bag is no exception. Made with weatherproof synthetic leather, this bag stands up to its name: it truly looks like a luxury bag.

Its carrying system is comfortable for carrying, though the bag will undeniably look great on the back of a cart. It weighs just 4.5 pounds, fitting it firmly into the lightweight category with some of the other bags featured above. Look a little closer and you’ll see some of the fine details that make this worth the price, like the dual-use bottle opener/towel ring, a pen holder, an umbrella holder and a customizable ball pocket.

MNML MV2 Golf Bag Courtesy Best Accessorized Golf Bag MNML Golf MV2 Golf Bag

  • $259.00 at minimalgolf.com $299.00 (13% off)
  • Comes with a bunch of fun accessories and features you don't find elsewhere
  • Magnetic pocket closures is a cool idea, but in practice, our tester found it tough to get them open and closed
  • Weight: 5.0 pounds

Our tester raved about the MV2, saying, “Overall, the bag is a stunner. It’s clearly well-designed and feels like it’ll hold up for the long haul. The minimal-styled bag feels anything but, with lots of little luxuries that make the bag feel way more expensive than it is.” She even made note of how many compliments she got while using the bag out on the course.

One of the main highlights for our tester is the straps. She tested this out with her old bag on one shoulder and the MNML bag on another for a six-block walk to the driving range. The MV2 was far comfier — she felt no need to readjust to avoid the straps digging into her shoulder.

And contrary to the brand name, she felt the bag wasn’t minimal at all. If anything, it’s maximal — in a good way. It features a bunch of really fun details like the phone holder to film yourself while you swing, and the included Bluetooth speaker and solar power bank. She wouldn’t have thought these were must-haves for a golf bag, but now that she’s used them, she says she’ll never go back.

Wilson Staff ECO Stand Bag

wilson staff eco stand bag

  • Weight: N/A

When it comes to affordable golf equipment, Wilson Staff is the gold standard. Well respected by elite golfers and recreational golfers alike, the brand makes some of the highest quality gear you’ll find at its price point. The ECO Stand Bag continues this tradition. Made from over 50 recycled plastic water bottles and verified by Global Recycled Standard 4.0, the bag stands behind its name, proving that the “eco” moniker is not just lip service.

It lacks the bells and whistles of other, more expensive bags, but it has everything you need: self-activating legs, a five-way top for organization and a comfortable set of straps to make walking a breeze. It’s got six spacious pockets, including a cooler pocket perfect for stowing a cheeky beer to break open after the turn.

What to Look for in a Golf Bag

For the most part, picking out a bag is pretty straightforward — there are only a few technologies and bag types to work with. In most cases, just buying a bag you think looks good will work. If you want to go deeper, however, you certainly can.

Cart Bag vs. Walking Bag

In today’s day and age, bags are lighter, more comfortable to carry and made to excel whether you’re walking or riding in a cart. Unless you have your own cart, however, or exclusively ride when you head to the course (or, you know, are in fact a professional), you probably do not want a cart bag. For the large percentage of golfers (read: almost everyone), a walking bag will be the best, most versatile option.

We’ve tested bags made from synthetic leather, real leather, nylon ripstop and traditional twill/cotton. The decision will ultimately come down to you and how you’ll use the bag. If you’re carrying it all the time, opt for a lighter material that can withstand the rigors of setting it down and picking it up each time you hit a shot. If you’re more of a cart golfer, you can go for something more robust.

Most golf bags are equipped with a number of useful and clever pockets to keep all of your gear close by. You’re going to need to keep balls, tees, gloves, ball markers and all the other accoutrements organized, so try to determine how much stuff you lug with you and choose accordingly. Some bags only have space for enough gear to get you through a couple of rounds, while others will have space for just about anything you want and more.

Pga tour star grayson murray dead at 30, share this article.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Grayson Murray, a two-time PGA Tour winner who battled alcohol issues and depression, has died, according to PGA Tour officials. He was 30.

Murray played the first round and part of the second round in this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club, but withdrew from the event after 16 holes on Friday, citing an illness.

No cause of death has been listed, but PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan issued a statement to staff and players stating that grief counselors would be on hand. The tournament will continue as scheduled.

Murray attended Wake Forest University, East Carolina University, and Arizona State University, and later won the 2017 Barbasol Championship and the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii.

“We were devastated to learn — and are heartbroken to share — that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning,” Monahan said in his note. “I am at a loss for words. The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones. I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so.

“As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes. The PGA Tour has grief counselors available at both tournament sites, as well as virtually for those not in the field. I am en route to Ft. Worth and will share more information when we can.”

After capturing three straight IMG Junior World titles starting in 2006, he became the second youngest player to make the cut at a Korn Ferry Tour event when he did so at the age of 16. He also played in the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion as an amateur.

Murray showed great promise on the course, winning the 2017 Barbasol despite drinking during tournament week and admitting in January that he played three days hungover when he won.

“Best thing and worst thing that ever happened to me was winning my rookie year,” he said. “I think the alcohol brought a side out of me that wasn’t me. It was kind of the monster in me in a way.”

But the early success proved to be short-lived. He struggled to make cuts and conceded he was jealous of the players he grew up competing against, who were having greater success. Along the way, he had a Twitter spat with a fellow player, suffered a scooter accident in 2022 in Bermuda , and threatened to quit on multiple occasions. Murray also dealt with anxiety and depression, and said there were days he didn’t want to get out of bed.

“I just thought I was a failure,” he said. “I thought I had a lot of talent that was just a waste of talent.”

It appeared his life turned around, however, as Murray had gotten sober in 2023.

“It was by choice,” he said after winning the Sony Open. “It was time.”

He regained exempt status on the PGA Tour after winning twice on the Korn Ferry Tour last year and set out to treat his return to the big leagues as a new beginning.

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray said he was treating the 2024 season as if it was his rookie year all over again.

“I was young and thought I was invincible. Wasn’t doing the correct stuff off the course to really give myself the best chance to succeed out here,” he said. “My scooter accident in Bermuda was really a low point in my life. You know, I’ve obviously been vocal about the alcohol use in the past. I’m over eight months sober now. I have a beautiful fiancée that I love so much and who is so supportive of me, and my parents are so supportive of me.”

Murray made waves via social media in 2021 when he revealed his struggles with Tour life that he said had led him to become an alcoholic. Murray claimed he was on probation with the PGA Tour after he got drunk in a Hawaii hotel bar despite causing “no scene whatsoever.” He also expressed disappointment that the Tour didn’t help him deal with his alcohol problem.

“We are saddened and heartbroken to learn about the sudden passing of Grayson Murray,” Kevin Canning, Murray’s agent, said in a statement. “Grayson has been a longtime member of the GSE family and hearing the news this morning shocked all of us. We will hold off on commenting until we learn further details but our heart aches for his family, his friends and all who loved him during this very difficult time.”
