I am a Seinfeld fan, but my mum has no clue who Kramer is and she had fun too. For a very reasonable price you get about three hours that include a monologue insight into stand up comedy culture in NY (where it was pretty much invented) during the 70s and 80s, the roots of the show, Larry David, Karmer's contributions, very good soup and a bus ride around Kramer's (and Seinfeld's neighborhood). Mr. Kramer is a very amiable guy, a former comedian in his own right,, he wants to make sure you get photos with him, autographs etc As he explained he is trying to stretch his 15 minutes to 25 years. We were SOO excited to meet the real Kramer and he did not disappoint. If you are a fan you cannot miss this. You start out in this dingy crappy theatre but t doesn't matter bc it's Kramer! He tells stories and shows you videos before you head out on the bus. There's an opportunity to buy t-shirts and other souvenirs. The bus is very comfortable and he's quite informative. We loved it. Kenny is also quite a nice guy. The first stop is Soup Man and everyone gets to buy a delicious bowl of soup. Of course we had to get the lobster bisque! The first half was a presentation by KK about how the show came to be, the early days of knowing Larry David, insights into how real events were translated into episodes, and a few video clips. The second half was a bus ride through some of Manhattan pointing out the spots that were in episodes - the highlights being a stop at the Soup Man of 'Soup Nazi' fame (great soup, by the way) and Tom's Restaurant, the restaurant where the Seinfeld gang always met. It wasn't the best thing to do in NYC, but it is what it is - an insight into the Seinfeld show and, if you're a fan, or even marginally familiar with the show as my kids were, it was still an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. The Black Keys Quietly Cancel International Players Tour 2024

The Black Keys have quietly canceled their upcoming International Players Tour, which was scheduled to bring them to arenas throughout North America.

The tour, announced in early April, was scheduled to kick off in September, with dates set for New York City’s Madison Square Garden and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. The 31-date trek would have brought them across North America, with stops planned in Seattle, Boston and Milwaukee before concluding at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena on Nov. 12. All dates have been marked as canceled on Ticketmaster’s website.

On the Black Keys’ website, tour dates have been scrubbed with the exception of a sole performance still scheduled for July 6 at NASCAR’s Chicago Street Race.

Management and publicity for the Black Keys did not respond to Variety ‘s requests for comment.

After news broke on Saturday that the tour had been canceled, the group posted on Instagram explaining that they had to reconfigure their tour to bring a similarly “exciting, intimate experience” for fans and that tickets for the original trek would be refunded in full.

“The band wants to assure everyone that Dan & Patrick are alive and well,” reads the caption. “Following the recent run of shows in the UK & Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the International Players Tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band, and will be announcing a revised set of dates shortly.

Everyone who had purchased tickets and/or VIP to the initial tour dates will be fully refunded – and when the new plans are announced, will be the first to be able to buy tickets. Thank you for your understanding and apologies for the surprise change… We're pretty sure everyone is going to be excited when you see what we have in mind though, and look forward to seeing everyone soon.”

The Black Keys, which consists of Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach, were set to kick off the tour in support of their most recent album “Ohio Players,” which released in April. On Wednesday, the pair appeared on NBC’s “The Voice,” where they performed “Beautiful People (Stay High).”

The band also recently debuted the documentary “This Is a Film About the Black Keys,” which had its world premiere at SXSW last month. The film explored the historical tensions between the bandmates as well as what united them. "We've figured each other out, for the most part,” said Auerbach in the doc. “We're just two very opinionated, hard-headed people, trapped for eternity together."

The beautiful Harbor Shores Golf Course

The email arrives Monday night last week, letting me know that my friends and I are paired with renowned PGA Tour pro Corey Pavin for the following day’s 2024 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship Pro-Am at Harbor Shores Golf Club in Benton Harbor, Mich . I’m super-excited to play in this event, because I’ve never played this Jack Nicklaus-designed course that I’ve heard so many great things about and, well, it’s a fun tournament.

After a good breakfast the next morning, we head over to the golf course to check in — pulling into the driveway and up to the registration table. The staffers hand each of us a nice cap, a dozen Titleist Pro V1 balls, and a color-coded KitchenAid money clip that we are instructed to attach to our clothing somewhere visible for access around the property. Volunteers quickly disappear with our golf bags and tell us we’ll find them in the participants’ cart staging area.

About 15 minutes later, I grab a few clubs and head towards the driving range. But there's confusion as I take a step onto the range. "Sir, this area is for tour pros only," says the attendant, as he checks the money clip attached to my pants pocket. "Oh sorry — where do schlubs like me go?," I ask. He points to the opposite end of the practice facility, a good 300 yards away.

But it’s a beautiful Tuesday, so I don’t mind the walk to hit a couple dozen balls and loosen up. Then I make my way back to the staging area. Ducking into the hospitality tent, I grab a few snacks and head back to the cart.

Soon it’s go time. We caravan with all of the other groups out to our respective tees for this shotgun start. When we get to 13, our starting hole, Pavin greets us. He’s a super friendly and very personable man with a great sense of humor, as we would learn over the next few hours. While the carts got us to the tee, we walk the entire course from that point. Each of us is supplied a caddie, who are mostly local volunteers that each get paid $150 for the effort. My caddie John is actually a local business executive and former host of the popular “Morning After” radio show in Western Michigan. But he loves golf and this is his way of staying connected to the event.

Apple Brings Back iPhone 14 Pro For First Time At Lower Price Refurbished

The birkenstock memorial day sale features styles for over 50% off, the 82 best memorial day sales to shop now before they re gone.

Our group starts off slow on the toughest stretch of the course, tallying one birdie in the first four holes of this mixed team scramble. At that point, we’re told that we’re in dead last place out of the 18 groups. And then we ignite the afterburners. Each of us amateurs make natural birdies. By the time we’re through 15 holes, we are 9 under par. And then Pavin kicks into gear with an eagle and two birdies — one of which was a near-hole-in-one that lands one inch from the cup. We finish 13 under and in sole possession of second place. Although we’re able to mark several closest-to-the-pins and long drives among our group on several holes as we play them, other people must've bested us afterwards as we won no prizes for those. We did get to pick a very nice participation gift later on from an online catalog.

Plenty of beautiful scenery at Harbor Shores

As for the overall experience, I learned a few things. Along the way, there were hospitality coolers at several locations on the course, as well as a couple of food stations. Officials definitely didn't want anyone to go hungry. There was also a reception after the round that was well catered. At one point, I hit my third bad tee shot in a row. Pavin came up to me, put his arm around my shoulders, and told me to just slow down my back swing. From that point on, I couldn't miss.

He really was conversational with each of us, taking us aside and asking us questions about our lives. When I returned the favor, he told me that his parents got him into golf at age 6. His father — who owned several shoe stores in Southern California — was never a great golfer. But his older brothers were playing and his parents thought he would enjoy the game playing with them. Pavin says he was just an average golfer until about age 15, when everything suddenly started clicking and he began winning junior tournaments. When he wasn't playing golf, he was selling shoes at his dad's stores. He went on to play golf at UCLA and eventually turned pro with much success.

Waiting to tee off on one of the holes

Over our day with him, Pavin discussed everything from very entertaining stories of his PGA Tour days to sustainability to why he likes playing more with galleries than without to how golf balls would travel on Mars and the moon compared to Earth. Regardless, he was very approachable and was truly like having one of our buddies out there with us.

Perhaps best of all, we got to play this top-ranked course while it was in near-perfect condition. The greens and fairways rolled true, and the course was challenging but fair. My caddie was able to provide a lot of incredible history about each hole and the course in general. I found Harbor Shores to be visually spectacular. I’d heard so much about it for several years, and it didn’t disappoint. At one point, the course is perched right above Lake Michigan with stunning panoramas.

While it was a bummer that Mike Weir’s group beat us out by I believe a stroke or two, it was a fantastic day that supported some great charities. And one I won't soon forget.

Grayson Murray, a two-time PGA Tour winner, dies at 30

The parents of Murray, who died Saturday after withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge, said in a statement that “life wasn’t always easy” for their son.

The parents of Grayson Murray, the two-time PGA Tour winner whose death Saturday stunned the golf community, spoke of the anguish of their loss, saying in a statement, “Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson and, although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.”

Eric and Terry Murray said in a statement issued by the PGA Tour: “We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare. We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and — it seems — by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed. We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support.”

In asking for privacy, his parents asked people to “please honor Grayson by being kind to one another. If that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else.”

A statement below from Grayson's parents, Eric and Terry Murray. The death of the 30-year-old was announced during the third round of the Charles Schwab Challenge on Saturday in Fort Worth.

“We were devastated to learn — and are heartbroken to share — that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. “The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”

Murray had withdrawn from the second round of the tournament Friday, citing an illness. He was 5 over par with the final two holes remaining in the round at Colonial.

A North Carolina native, Murray grew into a standout golfer in his youth, becoming the second-youngest player to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour at 16 and playing as an amateur in the U.S. Open at 19. After attending Wake Forest, East Carolina and Arizona State, he earned full status on the PGA Tour for the 2016-17 season. He won the 2017 Barbasol Championship, earning his first victory on tour at 23.

Murray struggled in subsequent seasons and publicly discussed his battles with alcoholism and mental health. He said he received treatment for addiction and worked to return to form.

He twice won on the Korn Ferry Tour last year and reclaimed his PGA Tour card that fall. In January, he won the Sony Open in Hawaii. That win elevated him to a career-high 46th in the Official World Golf Ranking. Murray ranked No. 58 at the time of his death.

Monahan said he reached out to Murray’s family to offer his condolences. During that conversation, Monahan said Murray’s parents “asked that we continue with tournament play.”

“They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so,” Monahan said. “As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”

The Nerve of Madonna to Pull It Off, Again

  • May 16, 2024

Eighteen years ago, Madonna observed : “Once you pass 35, your age becomes part of the first sentence of anything written. It’s a form of limiting your options and almost putting you in your place. For women, naturally.” She was 47 when she said that and intent on challenging the cultural script that suggested women, especially female performers, had a use-by date.

“Why is that acceptable?” she asked the music writer Brian Hiatt nearly 10 years later, still battling critics who told her to dress her age, act her age — in short, pack it in and retreat from the spotlight because she was past her prime. “Women, generally, when they reach a certain age, have accepted that they’re not allowed to behave a certain way. But I don’t follow the rules.”

To the question “Is she still relevant?” her Celebration Tour, which concluded this month, is proof that she is. Madonna performed before the largest audience ever gathered to watch a female artist and staged the single biggest free stand-alone concert in history: 1.6 million people turned Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach into a dance floor on May 4. According to Billboard , her six-month, 80-show tour grossed $225.4 million, making her the only woman in history to gross more than $100 million during each of six concert tours. (The only solo male in that category is Bruce Springsteen.)

But there’s so much more to her triumph than numbers. That a 65-year-old female pop star pulled off this tour and, despite our increasingly intolerant times, the performance was her most relentlessly and delightfully queer since 1990’s groundbreaking Blond Ambition Tour would be unimaginable, except that it was Madonna. The Celebration Tour proved that Madonna wasn’t afraid of drawing attention to her long career; she owned it proudly.

All of her past selves showed up, in role and in costume, to help celebrate the many ways she has evolved and the many ways she and her collaborators have explored and expressed gender throughout the years. It was a beautifully inclusive, encouraging spectacle. If history is a guide, the social and artistic ramifications of her performance will extend long after her tour.

Madonna’s 1985 Virgin Tour, her debut, included only 40 shows in North America and grossed about $5 million. But its impact on young lives is immeasurable. The young women and girls in her audience were on the cusp of unleashing their sexual selves and embracing their independence, which is what made them so terrifying to a broader society intent on keeping them polite, passive and manageable.

Madonna’s message to her young audience was: Embrace your power, dream big and dare to be your own damned self. That message would resonate through a generation and across the globe, as aspiring Madonnas grew up to be politicians, lawyers, doctors, teachers, members of the armed forces, Third Wave feminists, riot grrrls and pop stars themselves.

Madonna was, in fact, the lead author of the female pop star playbook, and she continues to write the unexplored and perilous back end of it while artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish adapt the front end and more established stars like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift refine what’s possible in the middle. Madonna’s continuous career represents a universe of possibility for their own, despite the entertainment industry’s willingness to jettison midcareer women in favor of artists with younger faces and bodies.

But for women not named Madonna (or Beyoncé or Taylor Swift), growing older and maturing in public is much more fraught. Older men are considered wise, but older women are often ignored or discounted. Thanks to the intervention of the pharmaceutical industry, men are encouraged to have an active sex life into their 80s. The idea of older women having sex remains, for many, repellent.

Madonna has challenged our notions of what a woman should do and be on all those counts: She chooses to age as she sees fit, she says what she believes loudly and forcefully, and she is as proudly sexual as she was in 1985.

With her Celebration Tour, Madonna demonstrated night after night for six months that an older woman can exhibit power and strength — joyfully, generously and defiantly. Her glorious performance was perhaps even sweeter when we recall that hip and knee injuries disrupted her Madame X tour four years ago and a bacterial infection threatened not only the Celebration Tour but also Madonna’s life.

Forty years ago, Madonna showed audiences, particularly girls and women, that they could mute the killjoy chorus keeping them from self-realization. On the Celebration Tour, Madonna doubled down on this idea, encouraging fans to follow their hearts, minds and inner freaks by both being herself onstage and employing diverse and talented dancers to carry that message in their own convincing and resonant ways.

If this were the last tour of Madonna’s career — and we sincerely hope it was not — she would retire as the most influential female pop star of all time, a legitimate legend who wowed audiences, defied expectations and broke records. Having served more than 40 years in the public eye, she could take a holiday, take some time to celebrate. It would be, it would be so nice.
