Fox Theatre Ghost Tours Review: About the Tour

Fox Theatre Ghost Tours allow brave patrons to walk the haunted halls of one of Atlanta’s most treasured landmarks. On the tour, you’ll learn about the theatre’s long history and the guests that loved it so much they never left.

Tours are only offered during October, and tickets always sell out fast.

If you’re lucky enough to score a ticket, you’ll be led through the theatre by an expert guide from the lobby to the basement to backstage. Your guide will tell you all about the history of the building and the many ghosts that still linger.

There are “spooks” (actors) at a few stops who will tell you their stories and why they still hang around the theatre. A couple times a spook may startle you when they appear, but there’s nothing too terrifying.

There’s something about being in a theatre after hours that just gives you the chills. Then add on wandering through dark and dimly lit hallways, and the Fox Theatre Ghost Tours have the perfect ambiance.

Fox Theatre Ghosts and Haunted Spots

Want a little taste of the haunts before you take the tour? Here are some of the interesting haunted spots around the theatre.

The Hospital

View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Fox Theatre (@thefoxtheatre)

Have you ever noticed The Fox has its own hospital? It’s located by the ladies’ restroom on the lower level.

This room has medical furniture that dates back to the 1920s when the theatre was built. During the time, it was manned by a registered nurse. A woman even gave birth here during a show when the hospital room was still in use.

Some say they still see the spirit of the nurse lingering in the doorway.

The Haunted Elevator

The old backstage elevator which takes you to the dressing rooms seems to have a mind of its own. It likes to take to a floor you didn’t choose, and often it will take to to the 4th floor.

The story goes that, during the 1940s, one of the theatre’s managers and his girlfriend lived on the 4th floor. One day, the girlfriend was found dead in their apartment. Ever since, the elevator has liked to go to the 4th floor on its own.

People also report feeling a presence or a touch on the shoulder while riding the elevator.

The Dressing Rooms

The dressing rooms at the Fox have walls lined with antique playbills and old ticket stubs from shows at the theatre. The draws of the vanity are also adorned with signatures from actors and headliners.

Dressing room number 42 is said to be frequented by the spirit of Anna Ragan. The Ragan family owned the property that the Fox was built on in an extravagant mansion. Anna is thought to have died in the house, and it seems she has no problem with her former home becoming a theatre.

The Fox team honors her death by bringing her flowers. She is known to move things around the dressing room. Some even report seeing her apparition and hearing her voice.

The Boiler Room

Down in the depths of the Fox is the boiler room. Now, we the theatre uses updated technology to keep its patrons cool in the summer and warm in the winter. But back in the 1930s and 1940s, the fire had to be manually stoked and the burners cleaned to keep guests warm.

Roosevelt was the man for that job. He oversaw the Fox’s boiler room until his death in 1945. And he kept working after his death.

If you disturb him while he works, he will slam doors and turn the lights off on you, leaving you alone in the dark.

The final stop of the tour is center stage. You can look out on the darkened auditorium and gaze up at the Fox’s famed night sky ceiling.

The stage is said to be haunted by a stagehand who tripped and fell off into the orchestra pit one night. There are also reports of people hearing footsteps and seeing figures in the audience when the theatre is deserted.

There is a “ghost light” set up on stage: a lone light that is lit when the theatre is unoccupied. It’s practical purpose is to prevent accidents when the theatre is dark, like what befell our stagehand spirit. Superstitions surrounding the light say that you leave it on, as well as close the theatre one day a week, to allow the ghosts that remain the opportunity to perform. Another superstition suggests that the light is there to ward away ghosts.

During the tour, you’re able to access parts of the theatre that are usually off-limits to the average theatregoer. Learn about the old organist whose ashes were scattered in the theatre. It’s said that he haunts the space – which is surprisingly more sinister when not seeing a show. With the grand and camp interiors, the glamour of showbiz, and even the intention of the building. The theater was originally planned as part of a large Shrine Temple as evidenced by its Moorish design. This creates eerie undertones, before the top-notch actors even take you on a journey through some of the theatre’s stories.

Welcome to Atlanta Ghosts

Fear the footsteps of the forsaken in atlanta.

Did you know Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport (ATL) is a 2-hour flight from a major chunk of America’s population? It’s the busiest airport on the entire planet, bringing steady streams of travelers–more than 100 million per year–from all over the world through Atlanta.

The real secret is the almost undetected supernatural flow of otherworldly travelers visiting the land of the living in Atlanta. Lingering in the darkest corners of the city, easily hidden from clubgoers and celebrities in this “Hollywood of the South”, is an unseen host of ghostly citizens whose souls will never leave the confines of the city again.

What will I see on this tour?

Secrets serial killer stashes and ghosts of atlanta’s underworld.

From victims of the early railroad construction to the soul-crushing death toll at the center of the Civil Rights movement, Atlanta has always been known as a city with a haunting and tragic history. Echoes of old and new violence reverberate in the shadows of Atlanta’s forest of dogwood trees, where the spirits of train robbers and race rioters roam the night, looking for unwary victims to scare.

Uncover the bone-chilling secrets of Atlanta’s past as you explore buildings once home to cutthroat murderers bent on violence and lawbreaking. Tour the darker side of Atlanta with us on our ghost adventure tour and hear stories that will raise the hair on the back of your neck and give you nightmares as a souvenir.

Ghosts of violence and murder still linger in The ATL, where billions of people have visited for layovers, business meetings, shopping outings, and more. In the shadows of skyscrapers and dogwood trees, The Big Peach holds secrets, some literally buried in the city’s buildings. Serial killers stashed their bodies in Atlanta. Disease and war took young lives tragically. Disembodied voices still communicate with patrons in Atlanta’s bars and ghosts still stalk the halls of buildings that were once Civil War hospitals.

As you explore midtown ATL, you’ll discover the story of a serial killer who hid the bodies of his victims in a church basement. Listen for the haunting tune of the long-dead Fox Theater organist as you walk through quiet and seemingly deserted streets.

Watch for the ghosts of Atlanta past lingering in the darkened alleys that you pass. Visit Babs Midtown where a violent, haunted house used to sit and don’t be surprised if you feel a chill when you visit the still-haunted location.

Why is Atlanta So Haunted?

A-town built on ashes of the dead.

Atlanta grew into a bustling regional center in the 1850s because of the railroad, which made it a hub for commerce, trade, and travel. But the city that rose from the ACF River Basin burned to the ground several times including the Great Atlanta Fire of 1917, when more than 1,900 buildings burned, trapping residents inside. The modern, sleek buildings you pass as you walk through midtown Atlanta are built on the ashes of tragedy. Whispers of the fires that trapped so many souls in burning buildings still echo in the streets. Don’t be surprised if you feel something rush by as you explore midtown Atlanta, it could just be a panicked victim still searching for an escape from the flames.

In 1946, a fire broke out at the Winecoff Hotel, now known as the Ellis Hotel. An impressive building, the 15-story Winecoff was hailed as a “fireproof building” when it was built. It didn’t have any sprinklers or fire exits, so guests couldn’t escape when flames broke out that fateful night. Of the 280 guests that were at the hotel, 119 died in the fire, which still is the most deadly hotel fire in U.S. history. The tortured souls of those guests still search the halls of the hotel for relief from the tragedy.

Don’t be alarmed if you hear whispers from the shadows as you walk through Atlanta’s midtown, it’s just another traveler begging for relief from an untimely death. The chill you feel in your spine could be from the touch of a burn victim, still caught in the flames of the past.

Why do ghosts still haunt homes in Atlanta?

Don’t be surprised if you notice ghostly apparitions watching you from the windows of houses and establishments you pass when you walk the streets of Atlanta. Don’t get spooked if you feel a cold spot walking into a bar that was once a home, or see your frosted mug move on its own accord. Even if you can’t see anyone in your room with you as you settle in for the night, chances are you aren’t alone. In Atlanta, the past doesn’t disappear that easily.

Atlanta grew into the city it is today because of the railroad, bringing hundreds of families to the area for work and better prospects. Why You Should Book Your St. Louis Ghost Tour Tonight!

St Louis is full of hidden histories

You will see St Louis in a different light after hearing our authentic spooky tales of real-life ghosts that terrorize the streets of St Louis.

St Louis has a darker side to share, one brimming with ghosts of the past and present. For example, the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Downtown West was the largest and best theatre in St Louis in its day. It was constructed by William Fox, who also founded the movie studio that bears his name. The Fox theatre became a grand showcase for stage shows, musical acts, and many world premieres of the biggest movies of the day, but profit proved elusive.

A sad decline happened over the years, and the theatre was a shell of its former self. However, a grand renovation in the 1980s gave it new life and made it a regular stop for Broadway musicals touring the country. Many a star has appeared on the stage; their performances made possible by a crew of dozens behind the scenes. In the early nineties, one of them tragically lost their life to a falling large piece of stage equipment. The stagehand didn’t hear the shouts because they were too engrossed in the performance. The stagehand’s spirit still lends a hand in the darkened theatre, long after his body was taken away after the tragic accident.

St Louis will shed its veil of decorum and show you its secret past on our walking tour around the flat streets of St Louis.

Looking for the most fun you can have in St Louis?

There is so much to do in St Louis, even just staying Downtown, you have your choice of the highest number of free attractions outside New York City. The Gateway Arch is free, the Saint Louis Zoo is Free, the Saint Louis Art Museum is free even the Saint Louis Science Center is free.

However, every single one of those fantastic places closes in the early evening. The St Louis Ghosts tour is the perfect activity between a day of sights and evening sampling the booming culinary scene of St Louis. The creative chefs of the Gateway City have the evening covered, and the daytime is taken care of, but that tricky slot in between is where St Louis Ghosts will provide a fun, entertaining, and gripping activity.

Our St Louis Ghosts walking tour will start and finish at the same spot. We will also leave you with an indelible impression and a host of memorable stories from your time in the Gateway City. Even if you live here, our entertaining and knowledgeable guides will tell you things you did not know about the Lou’.

You want to sneak some history into a night on the town

St Louis Ghosts walking tour will bring the history of the city to life, through death! We do it by telling the tragic stories of the characters who drove the history of the city from the very places they did it. Our entertaining guides will walk you through the history of St Louis with some of the scariest stories of the people who lived and died here.

Our fun haunted walking tour is history by stealth. Our guides have all the answers and a veritable laundry list of hauntings in this charming area. Each one involves a local character whose life, and more importantly, death is entwined with the history of this fascinating city.

St Louis is a city of firsts; the first cocktail party, the first drive-up bank window, and the first monster truck! Being ahead of the nation requires some bold thinkers with radical ideas, visionary men and women with the courage to lead, and the conviction of their ideas.

Many of these bold souls of yesterday have become the haunting spirits of today. Only our tour has the details of their lives, their riveting stories, their achievements and their untimely ends. Our guides bring it all to life through the stories of the spirits that refuse to leave us.

You only have limited time and you want maximum fun!

Give us just 60 minutes for our standard tour, or 90 minutes for the extended tour, and we will show you the dark and hideous hauntings of the Gateway City. The stories of the spirits we present are full of human drama and incredible twists and, more importantly, dramatic endings that the imagination could never invent. As they say, fiction is limited by what we can conceive of as possible, but real life is not.

For example, the 1849 Cholera outbreak in the city made the riverfront area a hive of ghostly activity. Spread by contaminated water, the disease could kill in hours. When the disease was at its height, the corpses came thick and fast; the city only recorded the numbers of people buried in different graveyards, not names.

On the riverfront, the poor and migrant populations were particularly ravaged by the disease. They could not afford burials, so they were laid in ditches and covered in soil. The spirits of so many lives taken early run thick in the dark cobbled streets and dingy underpasses of the district today. Let us tell you all about the heroes and villains of the outbreak.

Over a mile or so of walking around the city we will show you the dark past behind the bright lights of the city on the River. Fun lurks in mysterious places in STL; the riverfront’s entertaining ghosts have been storing up their tales for centuries.

You don’t believe in ghosts?

Although we have seen plenty of convincing evidence of the flimsy barrier between this world and the next, we won’t try and convert you. Neither are we out to capture glowing orbs and claim them as evidence of ghosts; that trick has been debunked for years. However, we are ready to show you between 8 and 12 fascinating stories about people’s lives from the past of St Louis. Then we will share how these spirits and souls have rippled through time and result in the unexplained events that so many have seen and felt in the city today.

Even if you don’t believe in ghosts, perhaps we can convince you that the energy we all put out into the world might continue long after we stop living. Like the heroic actions of Captain Thomas Targee, a volunteer fireman on the night of May 17, 1849. His heroism saved hundreds of people sleeping in buildings in the path of a fire that could have destroyed Saint Louis.

Early in the morning, the steamboat ‘White Cloud’ caught ablaze at the St Louis dock’s north end. The blazing ship drifted downstream, setting alight the next boat and spreading the fire to land.

The whole fire department was volunteer led at the time. Using hand-pumped tenders and a rudimentary hydrant system, the teams worked hard until the reservoir was empty. The fire continued unabated. The strategy now was to dynamite a line of buildings nearly eight blocks long to stop the fire before it reached the Cathedral and Court House.

Captain Thomas Targee was clearing buildings of sleeping inhabitants and setting charges in buildings that had been cleared. While setting the charges, one accidentally went off, killing the 41-year-old near the Gateway Arch site. An early hero of the professional fire fighting force established after the fire, Captain Targee is remembered today for his actions.

St Louis Ghosts tour has so many stories like this to entertain and spook you. Join our endlessly fascinating tour and let us lift the veil on the hidden history of the Gateway City.

There’s more to the city than Anheuser Busch!

The beer and the city are intertwined. The great brewing dynasty’s emblem, a train of Clydesdale horses pulling a delivery cart stacked with barrels, is housed in the city. The stadium where the Cardinals play is named Busch Stadium after the brewer wrote a check to keep the team in the city.

But there is much more to the city than its biggest export. There is a dark undercurrent of hauntings and ghosts that courses through the city like the dark Mississippi at night.

The grand tradition of ghosts in St Louis started with the desecration of the burial mounds of the Mississippi Civilization that even predates the Native Americans. The European settlers razed the burial mounds they found and unleashed a terrific flood of supernatural energy on the city.

This seam of supernatural activity has echoed through the ages. Add in the ghosts of the tragic accidents of the great industrial boom of the 19th Century and todays untimely casualties and St Louis is a strong contender for the most haunted city in America.

If you are looking for an alternative take on the history of St Louis, we can promise you the most entertaining way to get to know the Rome of the West, so called for being the home of so many churches, many of the Catholic.

We have so many more interesting and thrilling stories about St Louis, picking the ones that made it onto the tour was incredibly hard. Check out some of the others on our blog.

You need a St Louis activity everyone in the family can enjoy

Our St Louis Ghosts tour is created to be scary and creepy but is still family-friendly and accessible to all. We have gone to great lengths to make our stories scary, but not too scary. We don’t want anyone to lose sleep after taking the St Louis Ghosts tour. You will often find young people on some of our tours having the time of their lives.

If you are looking for absolute terror, we suggest the Exorcist movie… not so much the sequel. However, we have a host of interesting stories about that film, which is based on real-life events that happened here in the Gateway City.

Saint Louis is mostly flat, with a gentle slope down to the dark banks of the Mississippi. Our tours are proudly accessible to all. If you can roam for a mile under your own steam, you will find a fun, entertaining and fascinating tour around the most thrilling haunted locations of St Louis.

We are careful to make our stories memorable, being in the actual places that these historic haunted stories happened really makes the history stick. Science even agrees with us; they call this technique creating a ‘memory palace’ of the mind, resplendent with rich stories attached to specific places and experiences.

St Louis Ghosts has unforgettable stories that you can tell your family and friends just by picturing the places you visited on our tour.

Houston Judge Kelli Johnson faces DWI charges, her attorney releases statement to FOX 26

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - Judge Kelli Johnson, currently serving as the presiding judge of the 178th Criminal District Court, was arrested early this morning for driving while intoxicated (DWI) on Kempwood, as reported by the Houston Police Department.

This after the Harris County Sheriff's Office says on Friday, April 12, Johnson was pulled over for speeding at 23708 US 290 in northwest Harris County. A patrol supervisor claimed he possibly smelled alcohol on her breath during the stop.

A patrol deputy conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test and there were not enough signs to determine if Johnson was under the influence of alcohol or any other impairment. She was released with a warning citation for speeding.

Before that, the district court confirms Johnson was on leave from her bench, citing personal issues.

"She's a wonderful person but her behavior that night wasn't wonderful. You don't as an officer of the court, as an elected judge, use that position as a cudgel to try to get your way out of being in trouble," said attorney and former Judge Charles Adams.

Johnson posted her bail and was released from custody Tuesday afternoon.

The district court would not comment on her case but did confirm that other judges have been assigned to oversee her cases at this time.

"If any it'll have very little impact on the cases on her docket right now," said Charles. "I think this issue will be quickly resolved with an agreement to enter into a pretrial program and she will move on as if nothing ever happened."

FOX 26 Houston is now on the FOX LOCAL app available through Apple TV, Amazon FireTV, Roku and Google Android TV!

The judge has served in her role as a judge for 17 years and was on the bench for all three AJ Armstrong murder trials.

She also found Brian Coulter guilty of capital murder in the brutal killing on an 8-year-old boy. That decision made in April, the same month as her first traffic stop.

From her bench Johnson said to Coulter in the courtroom, "those children have haunted me this last week, haunted my mind and interrupted my safe space when I leave this building."

She has presided over many cases in her judicial capacity, from state jail felonies to capital murder cases.

Judge Johnson has been recognized throughout her career for her contributions to judicial efficiency and innovation, notably implementing mental health assessments and chairing committees for improved docket management systems. She has received several awards, including Prosecutor of the Year and the Crime Victims Appreciation Award.

Judge Johnson has not yet publicly commented on the arrest. As she prepares for reelection to her third term in 2024.

In a statement to FOX 26 on Tuesday evening, attorney Christopher L. Tritico released a statement saying, "Judge Kelli Johnson was not behind the wheel intoxicated. In fact, she voluntarily submitted to a breath test which came back 0.0, or no alcohol. This situation was not caused by an alcohol or drug abuse issue. The brief medical episode is being immediately addressed with her doctor. She asks for privacy while addressing this personal health matter. Judge Johnson has served Harris County with distinction for more than 20 years, as a judge and former Assistant District Attorney. She looks forward to returning to the bench and continuing to provide respect, fairness, and justice to all who come before her."

Further developments regarding the incident and its implications for Judge Johnson's career will be monitored closely.

Why should investors consider Disney?

'The Claman Countdown' panelists Bankim Chadha and Thomas Hayes unpack investing in cyclical stocks.

Disney is changing the names of its line-skipping passes and how they work at its Florida theme parks in late July.

Genie+ will rebrand to "Lightning Lane Multi Pass" beginning July 24, Disney said Tuesday . At the same time, the entertainment giant will start referring to its individual Lightning Lane entry as "Lightning Lane Single Pass."

The updated passes will "blend features from our current services and the previously offered FastPass+ Service, giving guests the choice to plan ahead and removing the hassle of planning during their vacation" in Florida, according to Disney’s blog post.

Disney said it sought to alter the two services after guests told the company they "would prefer to have the option to do more of their planning before their theme park day."

DISNEY SPENDING: NEARLY 50% OF PARENTS WITH YOUNG CHILDREN TAKE ON DEBT FOR THEME PARK TRIP

With both updated pass types, Disney Resort hotel guests will have the ability to book attractions a maximum of seven days in advance for their whole trip , provided it’s shorter than two weeks long, the entertainment giant said. The capability applies to guests at certain other hotels, too.

The advance purchase window will be three days for Disney World visitors not staying at eligible hotels.

Disney said the Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows Disney World visitors to pick three attractions and view time slots ahead of time. Attractions include Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Mission: SPACE and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, according to the company.

DISNEY SET TO INVEST $17B IN FLORIDA PARKS FOLLOWING APPROVAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

The Lightning Lane Single Passes will similarly show time slots before purchases. Examples of attractions the single passes can be used for include TRON Lightcycle, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Avatar Flight of Passage.

Disney said it will not roll out all the updates to its California theme park, Disneyland.

The ways that Disneyland customers "purchase, select and redeem Lightning Lane passes" there will "remain the same" as they are now, Disney said.

Disney’s parks and experiences are a major revenue driver for the company.

Its domestic parks and experiences , which Disney World and Disneyland fall under, brought in nearly $5.96 billion in revenue for the second quarter. Quarterly operating income for domestic parks and experiences was $1.6 billion.

DISNEYLAND'S CHARACTER ACTORS AND PERFORMERS VOTE TO UNIONIZE

For international parks and experiences, Disney saw $1.52 billion in revenue and $292 million in operating income for the same three-month period.

CEO Bob Iger said in May the company was "focused on turbocharging growth with a number of long-term strategic investments" for its experiences division.

Here is the full Glastonbury 2024 lineup and set times .

‘Are you not entertained?’ Russell Crowe’s shockingly good set epitomises the spirit of Glastonbury

Russell Crowe’s shockingly entertaining set epitomises the spirit of Glastonbury

Dua lipa performs 'levitating' during glastonbury headline set, dua lipa review, glastonbury 2024: more than mere pop spectacle.

Dua Lipa saw it coming. The fireworks and flags and pulsing purple lights, the teenagers on tiptoes scowling at strange adults as they fling their arms in the air like money. When she was a girl, the 28-year-old born to Albanian-Kosovan parents, tells us midway into her debut Glastonbury headline show, she wrote it down – “I will headline Glastonbury” – manifesting the sleeper hits and critical acclaim and now routine awards and No 1s that made this moment inevitable.

“I was really specific,” she adds after a shy laugh. “I said I wanted to headline the Pyramid Stage on a Friday night, because then I knew I could party for the next two days.” Her voice cracks as she describes the magic – “the power” – of commanding this seemingly infinite crowd. “Little me would just be beside herself right now.”

The growing Dua Lipa empire – now encompassing an acting career, a book club, a burgeoning media platform and a podcast featuring giants of high and low culture – shows no signs of slowing, particularly now she has bought back the rights to her music catalogue. Yet behind the cultural dominance, Dua Lipa is as enigmatic as she is ubiquitous. Her arrestingly vague persona (along, perhaps, with her admirable support for geopolitical causes) has stopped her transcending bankable fame to become a true nation’s sweetheart.

VIDEO: Emily Eavis defends Glastonbury line-up

Review: fontaines dc, friday at glastonbury 2024.

At the far end of the site from Dua, and also the musical performance spectrum, Fontaines DC creep onto the Park Stage bathed in murky green light and ushered by a poisoned baseline. Their opener, the title track of forthcoming album Romance, sounds like the most red flag love song ever, and the following “Jackie Down the Line” isn’t much more gallant: “I will wear you down in time,” sings be-skirted frontman Grian Chatten with a stalker’s intent. Recent releases have brought a melodic grunge side to their prickly, literate post rock, sometimes enhancing Chatten’s monotone poetry with a glowering depth, sometimes with a dirge-like drag. But at their best - “Televised Mind”, “A Hero’s Death”, a “Boys in a Better Land” that sounds like punk trashing the Cavern Club - they remain the most compulsive act of the new rock breed.
