George Clinton Announces Parliament-Funkadelic 2022 US Tour Dates

The "One Nation Under a Groove Tour" resumes this spring and summer

Back by popular demand, George Clinton is bringing his iconic Parliament – Funkadelic ensemble on the road. The “One Nation Under a Groove Tour” will continue in Spring and Summer 2022, taking the longtime funk legend across the US.

With over 50 years in the game, Clinton announced his retirement from touring in 2018. He brought P-Funk on the first iteration of the “One Nation Under a Groove Tour” the following year with the intent of it being a farewell tour of sorts; apparently, two years in a pandemic provided him with enough time to rest up and get back out there again.

This portion of the “One Nation Under a Groove Tour” will begin in New York City on June 15th at Central Park’s Summerstage. After 17 shows, it will then finish in Napa, California on August 21st. The rotating cast of openers includes Dopapod, Pimps of Joytime, The Motet, The Floozies, Soul Rebels, Fantastic Negrito, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Fishbone, and more.

Presale begins this Wednesday, March 23rd, with tickets available to the general public starting Friday, March 25th at 12:00 p.m. local time. Grab tickets over at Ticketmaster , and see the schedule below.

Back in 2018, Parliament released  Medicaid Fraud Dogg ,  their first full-length album in nearly 40 years. Last year, it was announced that Wiz Khalifa would play Clinton in Spinning Gold , an upcoming biopic about Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart.

It marks a return from retirement for 80-year-old Clinton

George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic have revealed details of a new tour.

The legendary American funk music collective, which was originally formed in 1968, will tour the U.S. across June, July and August. The shows mark a return from retirement for 80-year-old Clinton, who went on a "farewell tour" with Parliament-Funkdadelic back in 2019.

Named after Funkadelic's seminal 1978 album of the same name, check out dates for The One Nation Under a Groove tour below.

Widely considered to be one of the most influential outfits in music, Parliament-Funkadelic (aka P-Funk) spearheaded both psychedelic funk and Afrofuturism on albums including Funkadelic's 'Maggot Brain' and Parlimanent's 'Mothership Connection'. In 1997, Clinton and 15 other members of P-Funk were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame .

In January, Parliament-Funkadelic founding member Calvin Simon died aged 79 .

George Clinton Revives Parliament-Funkadelic Tour with New 2022 U.S. Tour Dates

In 2018, legendary artist George Clinton announced his retirement from touring. Now, though, that hiatus seems to be over.

The people have spoken and Clinton is back, resuming his One Nation Under a Groove Tour with a number of Spring and Summer dates set for the U.S. this year (see the full list of dates below).

Clinton, who has been making music and touring for 50 years, has apparently rested up during the pandemic and is set to play for the people again. It’s time.

His tour will begin in New York City on June 15 and will conclude after 17 dates in Napa, California on August 21. Openers include Dopapod, Pimps of Joytime, The Motet, Fishbone, Fantastic Negrito, and more.

Pre-sale for the tour begins on Wednesday, with tickets available for the public on Friday at noon local time. Get them at Ticketmaster .

The funk legend George Clinton has come out of retirement to announce new “One Nation Under a Groove” US tour with band Parliament Funkadelic.

Monday was an exciting day for P-Funk fans. The new summer tour was announced simultaneously with New Jersey honoring the icons with “Parliament Funkadelic Way,” five blocks of a street in Plainfield. The “Funkiest block on da planet” as Clinton wrote in his Instagram caption.

Although Clinton went on a farewell tour in 2019 after announcing his retirement the year prior, fans are digging his return.

“George Clinton has singlehandedly done more to push music forward than any other artist I can recall,” said Nick Szatmari of Universal Attractions Agency. “This tour represents that ‘big tent’ he’s created that includes so many generations.” (via  Rolling Stone .)

The Godfather of Funk’s impact and lineage will be highlighted in the tour’s supporting bands Dopapod, Pimps of Joytime, the Floozies, and the Motet.

In news related to George Clinton, Wiz Khalifa is set to appear as Clinton in ‘ Spinning Gold ,’ a forthcoming biopic about Casablanca Records head Neil Bogart. The label issued several of Parliament-Funkadelic’s records in the 1970s, including 1974’s Up for the Down Stroke and 1975’s Mothership Connection, Pitchfork reported in 2017.

George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic Announce 2022 U.S. Tour

George Clinton & Parliament -Funkadelic have announced a stretch of late spring and summer tour dates in the United States. Dopapod, Pimps of Joytime, the Floozies, and the Motet are among those joining the band at different stops on the tour, which begins in mid-June and extends through August. See the full schedule below.

Clinton had previously announced that he was retiring from touring, claiming in 2018 that he’d go on a final trek the following year. More recently, Clinton and the band earned the honor of having a street named for them in Plainfield, New Jersey , where Clinton established the doo-wop group that eventually became Parliament-Funkadelic.

Wiz Khalifa is set to appear as Clinton in Spinning Gold , a forthcoming biopic about Casablanca Records head Neil Bogart. The label issued several of Parliament-Funkadelic’s records in the 1970s, including 1974’s Up for the Down Stroke and 1975’s Mothership Connection .

George Clinton is a musical legend. Singer, songwriter and music producer, he was the principle character of P-Funk: a group of performers responsible for revolutionising funk music.

Clinton began his career as the mastermind behind the bands Parliament and Funkadelic before launching in to a startlingly brilliant solo career. He is often cited as being one of the forefathers of funk music. In the 70s he belonged to an esteemed group, the P-Funk, which comprised a selection of funk music innovators. In 1997, he and 15 of his P-Funk members were allocated in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a great honour indeed.

Born in North Carolina in the USA but growing up in New Jersey, Clinton was musical from a young age and tried to break into the industry early. P-Funk was his big break, earning him and his bandmates three number one singles and three platinum albums as well as countless more songs (about 40 of which became hits). As a producer, Clinton has worked with performers such as The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Clinton emerged as a soloist in 1982. Some of his most notable hits include ‘Loopzilla’, ‘Do Fries Go With That Shake?’ and ‘Atomic Dog’ which reached the number one spot on the R&B charts. After a slight dip in notoriety in the late 80s, Clinton’s popularity was resurrected in the 90s when many artists, particularly rappers, began to cite him as musical inspiration.

If you have never experienced the trippy insanity of a George Clinton concert, well you should and you should before you no longer can.

George Clinton has been doing his thing for many years, and in my opinion has stayed true to his style and attitude refusing to change for anyone. That's one of the things I love the most about the show, its just plain fun! The crowd at a George Clinton show is such a varied mix of people from all generations and backgrounds as George has managed to cross over to so many generations and types of people.

I will advise that for most of his outdoor shows, there is quite a lot of marijuana smoking happening, so if this is a concern for you, you may want to take that into consideration. There's nothing negative that comes from it, but it is around...

The stage show is just so much fun to watch, and seeing what type of crazy outfit George, as well as his band will be wearing each show is a lot of fun!

Most of the George Clinton shows Ive been to have lasted up to 2 hours, as he has such a large catalog of music, and also tends to extend the length of many songs during the show. The light show is almost as trippy as the music, and the stage props add a lot to the show as well, making it just one really fun concert to experience!!

Alas, an era has not quite yet departed from Us ... . George Clinton a.ka. Dr. Funkenstein, at age 76, is still on stage performing! George Clinton and the "3rd Generation" Parliament-Funkadelic (PF) gave a memorable performance at the HOWARD UNIVERSITY THEARTER, Thursday night, February 15th ... I can still remember when PF opened for "The Jackson 5", in 1970, at the HAMPTON COLISEUM, in Hampton, VA, I was seven (7) years old, attending the concert with My father.

George Clinton's opening act, was also outstanding, but played a little longer than most opening acts which did not allow time ALL of PF's hits, i.e. "Bop Gun", "Aqua Boogie", and most of all, "Atomic Dog"; however, this concert brought back a lot of GOOD memories.

Every time I see George and P-funk I can’t wait to go see him again! He looked and sounded great, and last night in SanFrancisco was epic!!! The man seems to only get better with age and of course the band was in the pocket and hot!!

Had a great time at the George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic concert last night. The concert venue was great the security was great looking forward to seeing them again when they come back to this area.

I have seen him twice now in the last year. I will not see him again. The longgggggggg drawn out solos, are getting old.People were leaving, including us. It ruins the show..

It was a great show! George Clinton never disappoints! I would have loved for them to have been a different venue with a larger stage but other than that, no complaints.

So worth it and I'm glad I can hear classics for being how young I am and I wish people my generation the music that layed the foundation the music we have today

EATONVILLE, Fla. – At 81 years old, George Clinton , whose career started as a member of a Doo-Wop band influenced by Frankie Lyman & The Teenagers, has spanned over 60 years. He and his band Parliament Funkadelic are known globally for blending a cornucopia of music genres to create an original sound that is often imitated but never duplicated. Clinton and his band members’ work has influenced, been borrowed from, and has been sampled by an astonishing list of rap and funk rock artists including Public Enemy, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, and a host of others.

Clinton’s reputation as a creative mastermind not only touches on his being a talented bandleader. It also includes his visionary artistry as a writer, producer, and consummate performer. And, his flamboyant personal fashion statements are considered nothing short of legendary.

On Saturday, June 4th, Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic will headline ZORA! 2022 Outdoor Festival of the Arts. Kim Waters and Tom Browne are featured guest performers on Sunday, June 5th.

ZORA! Outdoor Festival of the Arts begins on June 3rd and features programming for youth. All festival events take place in “The Preserve in Eatonville,” which is a natural habitat that has a historic and literary connection to Zora Neale Hurston.

Additional ZORA! Festival 2022 programmatic events are “Traditions” Weekend: Middle and High School Students Celebrate Black Music Month, happening June-17-18; and “HATitude! Cultural Flair,” an African and African American design event on October 29. HATitude! Cultural Flair is the festival season’s culminating event and is a fundraiser for P.E.C.’s Excellence Without Excuse (E-WE) Community Arts Lab and Learning Center programs for students K-12.

Florida House Democratic Leader-Designate Fentrice Driskell Announces Leadership Team

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida House Democratic Leader-Designate Fentrice Driskell (D-Tampa) today announced the appointment of the following Democratic Representatives to serve on the House Democratic Caucus leadership team for the 2022-24 legislative term:

• Leader Pro Tempore : Representative Dotie Joseph (D-Miami) ;
• Policy Chair: Representative Kelly Skidmore (D-Boca Raton) ;
• Floor Leader: Representative Michael “Mike” Gottlieb (D-Davie) ; and
• Whip: Representative Christine Hunschofsky (D-Parkland) .

“The House Democratic Caucus is made up of some of the strongest, most fierce champions of the people in the entire state,” said Leader-Designate Driskell . “It is an honor and great pleasure to work with these individuals in this new capacity, and all of them are prepared to lead the Caucus in the face of the challenges that lie ahead of us.”

As Leader Pro Tempore , Representative Joseph will assist the Democratic Leader in carrying out designated responsibilities and perform such Leadership responsibilities as are assigned, including stepping in for the Leader as needed.

“I have had the distinct pleasure of knowing Representative Joseph for over 20 years. From the time we were at Georgetown Law to now, she has always been a consistent champion for justice. The issues she advocates for on behalf of all Floridians makes Representative Joseph an invaluable asset in defending Floridians against extremist Republican policies,” said Leader-Designate Driskell . “I look forward to Representative Joseph ’s leadership as a key member of my team over the next two years.”

In her role as the Caucus Policy Chair, Representative Skidmore will be responsible for ensuring the Caucus continues to champion legislation that positively impacts all Floridians, and will lead discussions about bills before the House at Caucus meetings.

“As the previous Policy Chair for the Caucus, I know what is needed to do this job. Appointing Representative Skidmore as Policy Chair was an easy choice,” said Leader-Designate Driskell . “She stood out as a prime member in understanding policy during the last legislative term. Representative Skidmore also brings with her a wealth of experience as both a former House and Senate staffer and House member. Applying her unique skillset to this new role will benefit the Caucus and all Floridians.”

In his role as Floor Leader, Representative Gottlieb will be responsible in interpreting the House Rules, ensuring the Caucus adheres to the agreed upon rules, and working with his Republican counterpart in advocating for fair amounts of time be allotted to the Caucus in debating different pieces of legislation.

“Two things I greatly appreciate about Representative Gottlieb are his refreshing candor and strong fortitude,” said Leader-Designate Driskell . “As the minority party in the Legislature, we’re aware of the challenges that lie ahead of us. What we need right now is someone who is unwavering under extreme pressure to help guide our Caucus during difficult moments. Representative Gottlieb is perfectly suited for this role.”

As Whip, Representative Hunschofsky will be responsible for keeping all Democratic Caucus members apprised of Caucus policy on any bills or issues before the House.

“ Representative Hunschofsky has an amazing ability to get things done,” said Leader-Designate Driskell . “Not only does Representative Hunschofsky possess a wealth of knowledge due to her experience as the former mayor of Parkland, Florida, she is also a champion of many initiatives close to Floridians’ hearts, such as expanding access to quality mental health care. I know Representative Hunschofsky ’s knowledge and ability will help prepare our Caucus for the challenges of the next two year.”

The Florida House Democratic Caucus will convene during Organizational Session taking place Nov. 21-22, 2022 in advance of the 2023 Legislative Session scheduled to begin on March 7, 2023.

ORLANDO, Fla. (FNN) – Former Florida State Representative Bruce Antone served 12 years (six terms) in the Florida House of Representatives and defeated incumbent Democratic Rep. Travaris McCurdy during the August primary election to represent Orange County in the newly draw District 41 House seat.

Antone was among eleven candidates seeking election to county, state and Congressional seats participating in a candidate forum hosted by CFABJ, NAACP and the Florida Voters League, Wednesday, October 19, 2022.

Green Party nominee Robin Denise Harris is the only potential road block in Antone’s return to Tallahassee and faces off with him in the November general election. The District 41 House seat has an overwhelmingly Democratic voter base.

During his time in the Florida House, Antone was elected by his colleagues to serve as the Chairman of the 29-member Florida Legislative Black Caucus.

The general election is Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

George Clinton Details Final Tour With Parliament-Funkadelic

After five decades of life on tour buses and Motherships, George Clinton is ready to retire from the road. The U.S. dates of his long goodbye, which he’s dubbed the One Nation Under a Groove Tour, will kick off this spring and run through August.

“It’s coming right on time,” Clinton tells Rolling Stone , saying the announcement is part of a plan he conceived a few years ago. It’s the next step after releasing his 2014 memoir, Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You? as well as Funkadelic ‘s 2014 album, First Ya Gotta Shake the Gate and Parliament ‘s 2018 album, Medicaid Fraud Dogg .

“I would love to keep on doing this but I’ll be 78 in a few more months,” he says. “Even though I feel like I’m just getting started, the reality is the group needs to go ahead and keep it going. We’ve got a new vibe in the band, and they’ve been carrying it for the last three years. I’ve been up there representing for people, but they’ve actually been turning the place out. And we’ve been selling out for the last five years, every night.”

The tour, which officially kicks off after Memorial Day weekend (though Clinton is playing some farewell tour dates beforehand), will variously feature openers Galactic, Dumpstaphunk, Fishbone and Miss Velvet and the Blue Wolf. Tickets for most shows go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time. Pre-sales will start on February 7th; more information is available at Clinton’s website .

The Parliament-Funkadelic band features several musicians who have been in the lineup for the last decade, as well as a handful — trumpeter Bennie Cowan, saxophonist Greg Thomas, bassist Lige Curry and guitarist Blackbird McKnight — who have been with the group for 30 years or longer. It also features many of Clinton’s descendants.

The tour’s title recalls both the 1978 album, One Nation Under a Groove , and blockbuster single of the same name. Clinton says the song’s message of unity is just as important today as it was when he wrote it. “Funk to me was just that groove that united everything,” he says. “So you could be funky no matter what kind of music you played. There’s a funk element somewhere that can be put into it. And the idea of one nation with everybody together [applies to] not only one nation, but one planet.”

The tour, created by Universal Attractions Agency, coincides with Clinton receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys at a special ceremony on May 11th. It’s an honor that means a lot to him, since it’s a chance for him to recognize the dozens of P-Funk musicians who’ve played with him over the years. “It’s never been about me or no particular thing,” Clinton says. “The whole truth has always been what it’s about. As I’m getting ready to get a lifetime achievement award and all of that, there’s so many people that’s been in the band, it’s hard to even pick who all the people are. So people won’t get to see a lot of people, but still that award will belong to everybody that’s participated in making the P-Funk what it is. It will be for all the people that’s ever been through the P-Funk army.”

On Just for the Funk of It tour, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic coming to NJ

The upcoming George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic tour will have a little extra star power.

Clinton — whose just-announced Just for the Funk of It Tour hits the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair on Wednesday, May 22 — recently received a star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“It's an honor to receive a star alongside the many notables from the world of entertainment,” said Clinton at the Jan. 19 ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard. “The old fans and new fans who let the music move their souls, you all know who I’m talking about. I’ve always said it’s the people who make the funk.”

The Just for the Funk of It Tour begins May 5 at the Fillmore New Orleans and ends Aug. 31 at the big Fool in Love festival in Los Angeles. The Fool in Love lineup includes Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Kool and the Gang, Lionel Richie, Santana and more.

Tickets for the Wellmont show start at $137 and are on Live Nation presale. They go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23.

Dumpstaphunk is the supporting act in Montclair.

Clinton, 82, received a ceremonial key to the city of Tallahassee, Florida, on Wednesday, Feb. 21, during a city commission meeting there, according to the Tallahassee Democrat .

Clinton, who's lived in Tallahassee for the last 30 years, led the chamber in a “We want the funk” chant afterward.

Clinton founded the Parliaments as a teenager in the '50s. The P-Funk legacy was developed in a barbershop Clinton owned in Plainfield through the '60s.

In 2022, five blocks of Plainfield Avenue in Plainfield were renamed “Parliament Funkadelic Way” by the city. The area is where Clinton's barbershop, the Silk Palace, stood. The Second Street Youth Center now stands at 2nd Street and Plainfield Avenue.

“(I Wanna) Testify” was the breakthrough hit for the Parliaments in 1967. After becoming Parliament Funkadelic, they eventually landed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

George Clinton's "Final Farewell Tour" in Truckee

Late-Nite Productions, and One Vision Ent. Group, are bringing "George Clinton's Farewell Tour" featuring George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, live at the beautiful Truckee Regional Park Outdoor Amphitheater in Truckee, Calif. The show is on Sunday, August 14, 2022, and doors open at 3:00 p.m.

South Lake Tahoe artist Eva Salyer will be doing live art on stage.

George Clinton is feeling perplexed. At 81, the funk legend is headed to Truckee, Ca on a farewell tour with the latest edition of Parliament-Funkadelic, which now includes his son, his daughter and a number of his grandkids.

"It's weird," Clinton says, "because everything's getting so hot. I mean, the shows are selling out. The band is hot. It’s been great having a chance to see what the young kids are doing and how to make that work within the P-Funk band, and we’ve come up with some new things [that are] really working."

That’s what makes him so perplexed, he says, "‘cause yeah I'm ready to retire, but it’s getting so interesting out here with the people loving all the different things we're doing. But it’s their turn now." The plan is for the P-Funk name to carry on without him. "I’ve just got to get them together to make sure they keep going," Clinton says. "Because they’re not retiring."

He's still deciding who he thinks should run things when he comes in off the road. "I’ve got all my grandkids and my son and daughter in there," Clinton says. "So I’m trying to figure out, like a reality show, who’s gonna be the one to do that."

In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Clinton said he still feels like he did in the '50s and '60s, when he was just starting out.

"That's what's confusing," he says. "It’s still exciting. We were actually inspired to do the new Parliament album we have out, 'Medicaid Fraud Dogg.' And people took to it so well; you just feel like you can do it again."

He never said he was saying goodbye to the studio. "I’m gonna keep doing that," Clinton says. "I’m gonna keep producing and do some cartoons. I’m in that 'Trolls 2' movie. And then you’ve got Samuel L. Jackson playing me in this movie about Neil Bogart at Casablanca, 'Spinning Gold.'"

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic will be performing along with Black Rock City Allstars and Tha Exchange. Music starts at 4 p.m.
