Ford Field is an enclosed and domed-off football stadium in Detroit. It is the biggest stadium in Detroit and home to the world-renowned Detroit Lions. 

A football team that has been in the NFL since 1929 when they were formed. Initially, they were called the Portsmouth Spartans of Portsmouth; later, in 1934, they were rebranded and repurposed as the Detroit Lions. The name was precisely chosen to symbolize the “King of the jungle,” the lion. 

They have won four NFL championships. First, one against the New York Giants in 1935, then against the Cleveland Browns in 1952, 1953, and 1957. Ever since their last win, they have been struggling to compete against other teams in the NFL.

They have had some very successful players, including Bobby Layne, Earl “Dutch” Clark, Doak Walker, Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, and many more. They have overcome many challenges and had many career accomplishments with the Detroit Lions. 

Apart from the triumphant players, the Detroit Lions have many celebrities as their fans, including Bob Seger, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kid Rock.

It has an impressive capacity of 65,000 seats which can be expanded to 70,000 for football games and 78,000 for basketball games. It was by many experts ranked in the top half of best stadiums in the U.S., coming in at 15th place. 

The stadium’s record-breaking seating attendance was 80,103 during the WrestleMania 23 event, which was held in 2007.

This stadium is the current home of the Detroit Lions; it was opened in 2002 and held its first football game on the 24th of August 2002 when they hosted the Detroit Lions vs. Pittsburgh Steelers.

The stadium comprises 1.85 million square feet of area, with four suites and a whole level for club seating—an entire level, the ground floor, reserved for restaurants, concessions, and retail.

Besides the football games, Ford Field hosts many other events, including the Quick Lane Bowl, concerts, banquets, trade shows, business meetings, and conventions. It boasts an average yearly attendance of an estimated 1.5 million.

Ford Field is located in the center of downtown Detroit, neighboring Comerica Park. Right on the border between the U.S. and Canada; technically inside the U.S., but a mere 10 minutes from entering Canada. 

To get to Canada, the neighboring city of Windsor, you can take the Detroit-Windsor tunnel highway system, which is no more than a five-minute drive from Ford Field. Besides Comerica Park, Ford Field is near the Detroit Opera House and Fox Theatre.

Driving directions

Downtown detroit.

Suppose you are in downtown Detroit. From Monroe St., take a left to get to Randolph St., take the first right on Gratiot Ave., then left to get on Brush St., continue going forward, and you will see Ford Field on your right. 

Windsor, Canada

Suppose you are coming from Windsor, Canada. Take the Detroit-Windsor tunnel, which will directly lead you to Randolph St., where you want to continue forward for approximately 2,000 feet. 

Then turn right to get on Gratiot Ave., continuing from this point on by using the previous and above-mentioned points.

Fisher Freeway

Head northeast on I-75 N, merge toward downtown onto I-375 S, exit toward Lafayette Ave., turn right onto Macomb St., turn right again onto St Antoine, then continue forward for 2000 feet, where on your left, you will see Ford Field.

Gratiot Ave. or Eastern Market

Head southwest on Gratiot Ave. toward Brewster St., keep left on Gratiot Ave., then turn right onto Brust St. Going forward, you will see Ford Field on your right.

I-75 S to Ford Field

Continue going southeast on I-75 S, then forward on I-375 S. Here, use the left lane to take the Madison Ave. exit. Finally, turn right on St. Antoine, then continue forward for 2,000 feet, where you will see Ford Field on your left.

Public transport

Since it is very close, you have two options; bus and taxi. The better option is a taxi, which is way faster, but the cheaper one is a bus. 

To go by bus, take line 6 or 40 bus. There should be one every 20 minutes. The bus costs around $1-$3 and is usually a five-minute ride. Taking a taxi will take around two minutes of driving and cost around $4-$6.

The area of Eastern Market

Coming from the area of Eastern Market again, you only have three options—bus, taxi, and subway. You can take the Line 40 bus for $2 and an eight-minute ride or a taxi for $5-$6 and a drive of three minutes. 

The Subway 6 Gratiot will take you around four minutes, and it will cost $2. The subway will leave you off at Gratiot & St Antoine, then continue on St. Antoine, and you will reach Ford Field in less than five minutes of walking.

Woodbridge, Jeffries, or North Corktown

Suppose you are in Woodbridge, Jeffries, or North Corktown. You can take the 3 Grand River subway for $2. But be wary that you must walk for about 12 minutes from Grand River & Times Sq. to Ford Field. 

Moreover, you can take the line 3 bus, but again you will have to walk for about 15 minutes from Grand River & First to Ford Field for a price of $2 and a five-minute ride. A taxi is always an option which, in this case, seems like the best option to take you directly to Ford Field for a price of $7-$9 and a five-minute drive.

Because Ford Field is located next to Comerica Park, they share plenty of parking lots. You can visit their website to book your parking beforehand, which will redirect you to ParkWhiz.

Ford Field Parking Deck

The closest parking to Ford Field with around 1,000 spots, some of which are disabled spots. This parking garage allows for cash, cards, and even contactless payment. Access to the garage is generally open around four hours before an event or game.

McLaren Garage

Although the McLaren garage is closer to Comerica Park, it is within a three-minute walking distance from Ford Field. The garage is clean, and the spaces aren’t too narrow. On the way out, you can take a picture with the lion in front of Comerica Park. 

It has around 900 spots, some of which are disabled spots. It allows for a card or contactless payment. Flat rates for the garage are $8, and monthly rates are $135. 

Other options nearby

• Lot 4 , directly in front of Ford Field.
• Lot 5 , behind Lot 4 but extremely close to the entrances of Ford Field.
• The parking lot around Ford Field Parking Deck
• Tigers Parking Garage , next to McLaren Garage and in between Comerica Park and Ford Field.

Harbor House Detroit 

Harbor House Detroit is a seafood & steak restaurant based in a building circa 1905—brick walls with a classy interior design and unique mosaic chandeliers. 

Included inside is a bar with plenty of seating available, but unfortunately, there is no outside seating available. The ambiance is relaxing, and the cuisine is great. An all-around solid restaurant with a meat-based menu.

Vertical Detroit

Vertical Detroit is a formal restaurant located not too far from Ford Field. The restaurant offers an extensive wine and drink menu that complements the American small-plate dishes. 

This restaurant is decorated with a beautiful brick interior with an extensive wine cellar implemented in the wall. They allow for outside and inside seating, but delivery is not available.

Mom’s Spaghetti

One of the most unique and fabulous restaurants in Detroit just for its interior design. This restaurant does not boast a decadent menu nor rich or modern interior or exterior details. 

The entire restaurant is a tribute or somewhat of a museum for the world-renowned rapper Eminem. The restaurant is full of replicas and clothes he has worn, like a trip through his history. 

The menu mainly consists of spaghetti cuisine, hence the name and the famous Eminem lyrics.

Hockeytown Cafe

Hockeytown Cafe is a sports bar with Red Wings memorabilia. It is a high-energy bar with big screens that offers burgers and light meals. 

You will find an extensive drink menu and an exceptional interior design there. Classic motorbikes attached to walls, in displays, and in their rustic but tasteful interior design. Although this is a bar, they have a menu offering various meals and desserts.

Brass Rail Pizza Bar

Brass Rail Pizza Bar is a classic sports bar full of TV screens. Wooden interior with a menu full of pretty much every drink you can name and beer on tap. They have light meals, dishes, clever pies, burgers, and more. 

Friendly vibe with amiable staff and fast service. And, of course, many different types of pizzas.

Elwood Bar & Grill 

This bar is across the street from Ford Field and the perfect spot to stop before or after a game. You will regret not visiting this bar for its attractive interior and exterior design. It looks like it’s straight out of a kids’ cartoon. 

Delicious burgers and classic American fare coupled with a variety of drinks. Also, a relaxed atmosphere with friendly and welcoming staff.

Greektown Hotel

Greektown Hotel is a contemporary and modern 4-star hotel close to Ford Field and across the street from the above-mentioned Pegasus Taverna. 

A glass tower that overlooks most of the city skyline and offers one of the best views in Detroit. There you will find their casino and amenities such as a training center and gym, meeting, and business rooms, and, to go with it, all free Wi-Fi. 

You can find parking easily as they provide free parking in their private parking garage, which has more than 2,000 parking spots and is connected to the hotel. 

To enter the casino, guests have to go through a skywalk where they will find two restaurants, a bar, and plenty of casino games such as slots, tables, live poker, and much more.

Nearest to Ford Field, this hotel is one of the better options. It is well-priced and offers every amenity a hotel should. Customers are always left satisfied. For those coming in from out of town, this hotel provides an airport shuttle.

The Siren Hotel

A slightly more affordable hotel than the previous one is the Siren Hotel. It makes our list for its exciting and unusual interior design. Classy, vintage with picturesque colors put together tastefully.

You will find a retro cafe, a movie-like cocktail bar, and a high-end restaurant seating eight guests only. This hotel is pet-friendly and offers free Wi-Fi, while parking does have to be paid for. 

The location of this hotel is excellent; very close to the Opera House, downtown Detroit, Comerica Park, and Ford Field.

The history of Ford Field, although short, is plentiful. To play in their hometown, in 1996, intentions were expressed by the Lions to build their stadium and replace their then-home stadium, the Pontiac Silverdome. 

Construction began soon after, and the stadium was opened in August of 2002 when the first football game was held. The stadium’s first major concert was held in May, later that year, by the Rolling Stones. 

The stadium cost approximately $500 million or $753 million in 2021. The stadium had one major renovation in 2017, costing approximately $100 million.

This stadium has a rich history of hosting prestigious events. Concerning football, they hosted Super Bowl XL in 2006. In 2006 they hosted the then-largest crowd to attend a basketball game. 

An impressive number of 78,129 people watched a game of Basketball. Many other sports events have been held at Ford Field and hundreds of concerts with household-name singers or bands.

We cannot forget the Lions’ traditional game for Thanksgiving. A tradition that started in 1934 by their then owner George A. Richards. The Lions have played a football game every year on Thanksgiving day ever since.

Tickets for Ford Field can be acquired on their website or in person at the ticket office located next to the main entrance of Gate G on St. Antoine Street.

Ford Field, home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions , sits in the heart of downtown Detroit across the street from Comerica Park, the home field of MLB’s Detroit Tigers, and near Little Caesars Arena, where both the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings and the NBA’s Detroit Pistons play.

Ford Field opened in 2002 under the name of the team’s ownership family, as well as the automotive city’s flagship company. Its distinct domed structure is unique and the massive skylights and glass walls surrounding the stadium let abundant sunlight onto the field. The roof has provided crucial protection from the typical Midwestern elements, and has been used by NFL teams such as the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills as a substitute home field in the event of winter weather-related disruptions. The facility received a $100 million renovation in 2017.

Ford Field has been the site of numerous special events, including annual college football matchups like the Quick Lane Bowl and Mid-American Conference championship, Super Bowl XL in 2006 and Wrestlemania 23 in 2007, when the stadium reached a record capacity of 80,103 attendees. It has also hosted massive musical talents such as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, U2 and Metallica.

Ford Field History

Opened in 2002 and significantly renovated in 2017, Ford Field incorporates a former warehouse that was once the home to Detroit department store Hudson’s, which allows for a unique seating configuration at the stadium. Opened as part of the revitalization of downtown Detroit, Ford Stadium takes its name from Ford Motor Company, which has controlled ownership of the Lions franchise since 1961. The venue is home not only to NFL games, but a slew of concerts and other sporting events including United States Football League (USFL) games (as home to the Michigan Panthers), basketball games, wrestling championships, soccer matches and more.

In 2017, the $100-million stadium renovation featured an updated sound system for the entire venue, brand new video boards, upgraded suites and new concession stands.

Parking and Admission at Ford Field

Parking adjacent to Ford Field is available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be reserved in advance. Access to most parking facilities opens generally four hours before kickoff.

Ford Field Bag Policy

In accordance with the NFL’s clear bag policy, Ford Field allows guests to bring in one clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag no larger than 12″ by x 6″ x 12″ or a one-gallon clear resealable bag as well as a small clutch bag or purse no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″. Seat cushions that are no bigger than 15″ x 15″ can be brought into the stadium, as can small umbrellas and medically necessary items. Backpacks, binocular and camera cases, fanny packs and diaper bags are not permitted, nor are strollers, drones, child seats, outside food and beverages of any kind or marijuana.

Ford Field Capacity & Seating Options

With a capacity of up to 70,000 people for football games, Ford Field offers an array of unique seating options. Because it houses the former Hudson warehouse, many of the suites are located inside the warehouse area. Most of the grandstand seats can be found along the northern sideline and both end-lines. Suites are also located on the upper deck of Ford Field’s northern sideline.

Ford Field also offers Soaring Eagle Dream Seats that include amenities such as views above the player’s tunnel, black leather recliners, personal HD LCD televisions, South Club access, complimentary food and drinks and more. Suite options include premium all-inclusive food and beverages, VIP parking and entrance, a dedicated service attendant and more. Suites are available for Lions games, concerts and other shows and special events.

Ford Field is one of the few NFL venues that has end zones in the east and the west.

The Garth Brooks Stadium Tour

Detroit, mi, garth brooks leads largest concert crowd in ford field history, with over 74,000 in attendance, through “a supersized stadium singalong”.

Garth Brooks took the stage in front of the largest concert crowd in Detroit’s Ford Field history on Saturday, with over 74,000 in attendance, and led them “barreling through 30 songs—culled mostly from his untouchable string of ‘90s hits--that turned the entire evening into a supersized stadium singalong,” according to Adam Graham of The Detroit News.

Brian McCollum of the Detroit Free Press wrote, “Brooks was a hard-working, sweat-soaked dynamo, scampering across the stage and playing to all corners of the stadium. He was 30 minutes in before slowing things down, when the ballad ‘The River’ transformed the venue into an ocean of twinkling cell-phone lights.”  McCollum added that “Brooks’ songs have aged well. That musical durability served him well Saturday, whether on a 31-year-old ballad (‘If Tomorrow Never Comes’) or on dramatic set pieces such as ‘The Thunder Rolls.’”

Ford Field was the first stop on Brooks’ Stadium Tour in 2020, and it “found him performing in the round and debuting an impressive new stage — a 17,000-square-foot expanse with a cube of giant video screens overhead, supported by tall LED-lined columns,” according to McCollum.

McCollum continued, “This wasn’t an audience that needed much buttering up — tickets had sold out in 90 minutes — but Brooks helped his cause in the Detroit Lions’ house by donning a No. 20 Barry Sanders shirt. Chants of “Barry! Barry!” broke out across the stadium as he paused to explain the wardrobe choice.

’You guys got the greatest player in NFL history, in my opinion,’ he said of the retired running back.”

Graham observed Brooks’ connection with the crowd, noting, “He didn't just sing his songs, he pointed out audience members, acknowledged their signs and read them aloud, played to the back of the building, swapped hats with kids in the first row, beat his chest, stretched out his arms, wished ‘Happy Birthday’ to at least two audience members and left everything he had out there for all to see.” 

“Brooks is old school in that way, a pure entertainer and a big ol' ham,” remarked Graham. “He comes from a different era of superstars and was minted in the 1990s, when you didn't need to pay attention to country music to know every one of Brooks' hits. He was mega in a way that's nearly impossible to achieve now, which is why he's able to pack stadiums in 2020 even though the bulk of the material in his setlist is 20-plus years old. He made his bones as an over-the-top performer, and he's still playing with that same zeal.”

“The love was strong inside Ford Field on Saturday, from places high and low and everywhere in between,” Graham concluded. "’Michigan feels like home,’ Brooks said early in the night, and his big show certainly had the energy of a homecoming.”

Everything you need to know for Michigan Central's concert, tours

It's been 36 years since the last train pulled away, but Michigan Central Station is finally back.

Thursday is the day that Ford Motor Co. will reopen the long-empty building to the public once again. It'll be the first time in a generation that visitors will be invited in to see the historic space, now reinvented for new uses.

Here's what you need to know ahead of the reopening:

When does the concert start?

For those who have tickets, the gates for "Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central" open at 6 p.m. at Roosevelt Park in front of the station in Corktown. The sold-out concert will stream live on Peacock at 8:30 p.m. NBC also will air a one-hour primetime special on June 9 starting at 7 p.m.

The show, produced by Eminem and held in Roosevelt Park in front of the train station, will feature Diana Ross, Jack White, Big Sean, the Clark Sisters, Slum Village, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Melissa Etheridge — basically, if there's a genre you love, a huge Detroit name will probably be there representing it.

The concert will exclusively air locally Thursday with pre-show coverage beginning at 8 p.m. followed by live post-show coverage at 10 p.m. on Local 4, and stream on Local 4+ and ClickOnDetroit.com.

Other celebrities are also expected to attend, including former Detroit Lions icon Barry Sanders and current stars Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown, actress Sophia Bush and comedian Mike Epps.

If you go, expect a bag policy. Cameras are allowed — and sharing your experience is encouraged, according to organizers — but professional-grade cameras will require either prior approval or media credentials. Bags 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches will be inspected by security. Bags larger than that are required to be clear, and they still cannot be larger than 12 by 12 by 6 inches.

What about tours?

Free public tours begin June 7 and run through June 16, but they're fully booked.

But if you'd like to visit the renovated building this summer before it opens again permanently, you'll have an opportunity nearly every weekend from June until August.

There will be "Summer at the Station" public access every Friday and Saturday from June 21 to Aug. 31. During that time period, construction will pause so that people can tour the space and even use a free app to follow a narrated tour.

On Fridays, the space will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; on Saturdays, you can visit from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where can I park for the concert?

Street parking will not be allowed for people who don't live on the streets immediately surrounding the station on June 6. That said, Bedrock is offering parking in its garages at 1701 W. Lafayette and 1401 First St. on Thursday for $10, which includes a shuttle ride to the station.

Attendees can also park on floors five through nine of the MGM Grand Detroit garage, which is located at 1777 Third St., and then take a rideshare to the station itself.

If you are going to take a rideshare, organizers suggest putting the address 2515 Michigan Avenue or 2415 14th St. as your pickup or drop-off location. That should take you directly to the suggested zones on June 6.

Where is Michigan Central?

The station is located on 15th Street, just south of Michigan Avenue and east of Vernor, in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood. The concert is in Roosevelt Park right in front of the station.

What's going to be in the new space?

Ford plans to use the depot as part of a "mobility tech campus." The company promised the space would be home to 5,000 jobs , from Ford technology teams to suppliers and startups. As The Detroit News reported last month, Corktown — the neighborhood the station is in — already has 400 Ford employees working there as part of the Ford Pro commercial vehicle division.

Bill Ford Jr., the executive chairman of Ford Motor Co., has also said that Google will use space in the building to train students in tech skills such as coding and conduct drone testing.

What else will be in the building isn't exactly clear, but on the building's website, Ford says it will have a "first-of-its-kind mobility testing platform," as well as restaurants, retail, and support for local entrepreneurs and artists. Commercial tenants are expected to move in this fall.

It's not clear if, at some point, there might be trains out there again. Officials have hinted that rail service could return to the station but nothing definitive has been announced.

Active Assembly Information

Ford Rouge Factory Tour is an experience housed within Ford Motor Company's Dearborn Truck Plant in partnership with The Henry Ford and the United Auto Workers union.

The Dearborn Truck Plant is a real working factory. As a result, there are many factors that can cause inconsistent active assembly hours. This includes vehicle demand, supply shortages, factory floor renovations and construction, and staffing considerations. The Dearborn Truck Plant does not build vehicles during daily breaks, shift changes, holidays and weekends.

Please note that The Henry Ford cannot control Ford Motor Company’s production schedule and cannot guarantee that guests will see the assembly line in full operation during their visit. The Henry Ford is also not able to refund tickets in the event that vehicles are not being actively assembled.

Regardless of whether vehicles are being actively assembled, guests will be able to view the Dearborn Truck Plant’s final assembly area via a fully accessible suspended walkway at all times. The final assembly area is only one part of the Ford Rouge Factory Tour’s five-part experience. All other parts of the tour remain unaffected.

The Dearborn Truck Plant will not be in active assembly during these dates in 2024 and 2025, following the plant’s holiday and maintenance schedule. The dates include but aren’t limited to:

Taylor Swift plays Detroit's Ford Field this weekend. Here's what to know for the Eras Tour shows

(CBS DETROIT) - Are you …Ready For It? Taylor Swift is headed to Detroit this weekend for her highly-anticipated Eras Tour. 

She will perform two sold-out shows at Ford Field, bringing thousands of people to downtown Detroit. 

Here's everything you need to know before going to the concerts.

When is Taylor Swift in Detroit?

Taylor Swift will be in Detroit on Friday, June 9, and Saturday, June 10. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. The show openers go on stage at around 6:30 p.m., and Swift has been going on stage at around 8 p.m. 

Ford Field is located at 2000 Brush St., just south of I-75 (Fisher Freeway).

Who is opening for Taylor Swift in Detroit?

On Friday, June 9, Girl in Red and Gracie Abrams are opening, and on Saturday, June 10, Girl in Red and OWENN are opening the show. 

How can I get tickets for Taylor Swift in Detroit?

Tickets for Taylor Swift's shows in Detroit are sold out, but fans can try and get tickets through resale websites, such as SeatGeek , StubHub and Vivid Seats , although tickets are pretty pricey, ranging from around $1,000 to about $8,000. 

Tickets tend to fluctuate and drop in price as shows near, so keep checking! But be careful when buying tickets from these websites, as many fans have fallen victim to scams trying to get Eras Tour tickets.

Where should I park for Taylor Swift in Detroit? 

Parking at all Ford Field lots will be $50. Fans can also pre-purchase parking for lots  here . According to the venue, the Ford Field Parking Deck will open at 9 a.m.

Fans can also try to find street parking, which could be free or metered. The ParkDetroit application will allow people to pay for parking easily from their phones. In addition, fans can utilize Detroit's People Mover and Q Line  if they decide to park a bit farther away from the venue.

What is the bag policy at Ford Field? 

According to Ford Field, fans will be able to carry the following items into the venue for the Taylor Swift concert:

• NFL Policy: Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
• Small clutch bags, camera and binocular cases, not exceeding 4.5" x 6.5", with or without a handle or strap, can be taken into the stadium with one of the clear plastic bag options. For more information, visit www.nfl.com/allclear
• Medically necessary items including insulin, medication, portable oxygen, small soft pack coolers and breast pumps
• Infant items in a clear bag (bottles, formula) are allowed with a child. Diaper bags are not allowed per the NFL bag policy
• Small radios (must be used with an earpiece or headphones)
• Umbrellas, small compact only. Must be placed securely under the seat.
• Handheld posters and signs without poles or sticks. Must not block another guest's view.
• Battery operated clothing or signs if approved afer thorough inspection
• Football helmets. Altered helmets equipped with spikes or any other item that can be used as a weapon are not permitted
• Tablets (iPads, Kindles, etc.) Inappropriate subject matter should not be displayed and must not block another guest's view   

The following items are not be permitted: 

• NFL Policy: Purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, diaper bags, fanny packs, cinch bags, grocery and paper bags, duffle bags, computer bags or luggage of any kind.
• Aerosol cans (hairspray, mace, pepper spray, etc.)
• Animals (except certified service animals to aid guests with disabilities)
• Balloons (air or helium)
• Balls (beach balls, footballs, etc.)
• Banners or large flags
• Cameras with lenses longer than five inches or any detachable lens
• Decals, stickers, confetti or glitter
• Drones and/or remote controlled aircraft
• Electronic equipment including laptop computers, video recorders, tripods and wearable video cameras including Go Pros.
• Food, beverages or liquids (cans, bottles, boxes, flasks, etc.)
• Illegal substances
• Knives, pocket knives, box cutters, scissors, etc.
• Laser pointers
• Markers (permanent) and/or paint
• Noisemaking devices (bells, horns, kazoos, whistles, etc.)
• Objects that can be used as missiles or projectiles (sticks, poles, bats, clubs, Frisbees, etc.)
• Offensive or profane messages or images on signs and clothing that are distasteful or indecent
• Seat cushions or chairs
• Selfie sticks
• Strollers and infant car seats or carriers
• Umbrellas (large size)
• Wrapped gifts

Can I bring in friendship bracelets? 

Making beaded friendship bracelets referencing Taylor Swift lyrics, eras and jokes is popular among fans for the Eras Tour, and don't worry, fans in Detroit will be able to partake in the fun. The venue says they will permit friendship bracelets if they are being worn. There is no limit to the number of bracelets as long as they are worn. 

Is there a waiting room for parents?

There is no waiting room for parents at Ford Field. Each person entering the venue must have a ticket to the show. Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult over 21.

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour moved back inside on Friday night (June 9), playing the first of two concerts at Detroit’s Ford Field, which has been hosting Swift in the Motor City since 2011.

A crowd of nearly 59,300 — including a significant number of travelers to the show — gave Swift a thunderous welcome that left her wide-eyed and grinning by the end of the second song “Cruel Summer.”

“You’re making me feel phenomenal right now,” the pop superstar told the Swifties, a cross-generational, mostly female throng (though a few “Proud Swiftie Dad” T-shirts were spotted in the crowd). “I’m already starting to feel, like, powerful, you know what I mean?”

Playing under a roof, of course, meant Swift and company didn’t have to deal with weather issues like they did in Nashville, although it was a pleasant late spring day in Detroit. It also limited the chance she’d swallow any flying insects , like she did in Chicago. The domed setting did, however, provide different circumstances for the Taylor-gaters outside, who could not hear the music like they could at the open-air venues. That kept the numbers down but there was still a concentration of fans on the east side of the stadium, opposite of the stage, who were able to peer through the windows and were filming the production on their cell phones.

The covering also added another dimension to Swift’s opulent light show, particularly during “Don’t Blame Me,” when the rows of floodlights that shot towards the sky made shapes on the roof. It also reflected the pyrotechnic moments in a different way, lighting up the venue even more intensely than others.

Twelve weeks in, Swift’s Eras Tour is looking and feeling dialed-in — a 44-song, three-hour and 20-minute treat for Swifties who haven’t seen her on stage in five years. That made for a smooth night for all concerned on Friday, with some moments that still stood out from the evening.

Motor City Surprise Songs

Swift, per usual, explained to the Detroit crowd her idea of playing surprise solo songs each night — and not repeating them throughout the tour. A challenging task, she noted, but was clearly proud that she’s been able to keep it up so far. On June 9, she welcomed two more new arrivals to the Eras Tour roster, starting with “Haunted” from 2010’s Speak Now , played on acoustic guitar and preceded with a plug for Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , arriving on July 7. She followed on piano with “I Almost Do” from Red , its first time in the set since 2013.

Memory Lane

Before performing “Lover” during the show’s opening segment, Swift reminded fans that the first time she sang in Ford Field was during the fall of 2006, as a 16-year-old singing the national anthem before a Detroit Lions game in conjunction with the release of her self-titled debut album. “It was, like, the biggest place I’ve ever seen in my life,” Swift recalled, “and now we’re back with the Eras Tour.” It was actually her fifth appearance at the stadium, having played there on the 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour, the 1989 World Tour in 2015, The Red Tour in 2013 and the Speak Now World Tour in 2011.

VIP Flavors

A number of Detroit Lions were in the crowd on June 9, or planning to come to Swift’s second show on Saturday, including head coach Dan Campbell and quarterback Jared Goff. But the most visible celebrity in attendance on night one was Public Enemy ’s Flavor Flav , who was also seen at the Detroit Grand Prix the previous weekend. Flav was conspicuous in one of the main floor VIP boxes, pressing the flesh with fans who spotted him throughout the evening.

Cold Comfort

As she introduced Evermore ’s “Champagne Problems” while seated at a “moss-covered piano,” Swift apologetically made “a very annoying request that somebody maybe bring me a tissue.” She explained that “I’m kind of at the end of a cold. I’m just getting to a point where it’s gonna get messy for me on the piano.” A stagehand brought one up in short order, and Swift ducked down in order to blow her nose. “OK,” she said, “that may not be the last time that happens tonight. Just a warning.” It didn’t affect her performance of the song, however, which earned one of the night’s longest and loudest ovations.

It’s Janet… Miss Jackson

Astute Swifties noted that Janet Jackson ’s “All For You” was added to pre-show mix piped over the PA, ushering in the usual — Lesley Gore ’s “You Don’t Own Me” just before the lights went down and Swift hit the stage.

Loving the Love

Before rendering the nearly 10-minute “All Too Well” from Red (Taylor’s Version) , Swift spoke to the crowd about her mission to re-record her first six albums — and her appreciation for the Swifties’ support for the project.

“Ever since I was a teenager it’s just been really important for me to on my own music one day,” she explained. The Taylor’s Versions , she added, “is sort of the definition of a passion project, right? A passion project is something an artist wants to do for personal reasons, and they would it regardless of whether it was a big, massive failure or it went well … and because it was so personal to me I didn’t go in with any demands or expectations that you guys had to like my versions more or you had to support my versions more, right? But the coolest thing happened; I put out my very first re-record, which was Fearless , my version. You guys, like, rolled up your sleeves and dove in head first and you were like, ‘Nope, these are the versions we support. We want you to own your work.’ Honestly, I’m gonna be thanking you for that for the rest of my life because it just, it was so generous of you to care about the same thing that I care about.”

Time Out for Cuteness

At the end of “22” during the Red section, Swift took a moment with a young girl at the far end of the stage. Swift gave the smiling Swiftie a wink and the hat off her head before she skipped away to charge into “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

Girl In Distress

While Swift didn’t experience any obvious technical issues like she did the previous weekend in Chicago, when her microphone malfunctioned during the third show there, it was opening act Girl In Red ’s turn for a snafu. Like Swift, the Norwegian rocker (aka Marie Ringheim) pounded on the mic with her palm, then told the crowd, “I’m not sure if you saw the TikTok where Taylor lost her vocal mic. That’s exactly what I was going for.” After a quick mic hand-off she was able to finish the rest of her 35-minute set without incident.

Ford Cove Project 

Ford House, the historic estate of Edsel and Eleanor Ford, is teaming up with the Great Lakes Commission (GLC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for a project to restore disappearing wildlife habitats along the shoreline of Ford Cove on Lake St. Clair — part of Michigan’s Great Lakes waterway.

Admissions at Ford House are tailored to accommodate diverse interests and budgets, with separate pricing structures for events and educational programs. This ensures that visitors can choose experiences that align with their preferences, whether it's attending a special event or participating in an enriching educational program. The pricing flexibility reflects Ford House's commitment to providing accessible and engaging opportunities for all visitors.

Grounds Passes

Your grounds pass lets you roam through the grounds and gardens of the historic estate. Bring a picnic and sit on the lawn, watch the boats on Lake St. Clair, stroll through the gardens, marvel at the beautiful architecture, and soak in the open spaces and wooded areas. Your ticket gives you access to the Visitor Center, including the three exhibitions, as well as the grounds and gardens. Grounds passes may not be used for photography sessions. Michigan Central Station tours: How to visit Ford's renovated train depot

You may have missed your first opportunity to visit the renovated Michigan Central Station , but there are still plenty of dates it will be open to the public.

The Michigan Central Open experience at the train station, located at 2001 15th St. in Detroit, is just getting started and will chug along through the summer, offering plenty of chances to experience Ford's transformation of the train depot.

Here's what to know.

Michigan Central Station initial public tours

The first 10 days of public open house tours at Michigan Central Station, running June 7-16, are sold out . Those visits required advanced registration that is now closed.

Guests will explore the first floor of the building during an immersive experience. There will be activations, storytelling, artwork and shareable moments.

If you got tickets to this set of tours, be sure to arrive 15 minutes before your entry time. Tickets allow visitors to access the station within 30 minutes of the ticket window. Guests should expect to be in the station for no more than one hour.

Can I tour Michigan Central Station if I didn't get tickets?

Don't worry if you missed out on the first set of tours running June 7-16; public tours of the train station will resume June 21 and will run Fridays and Saturdays through the end of August.

What's the cost for weekend Michigan Central Station tours?

No registration is required. People may visit the station from 5-9 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

The building will be closed to tours on the other days of the week until September, when expanded public hours will be announced.

How do I get to Michigan Central Station?

Major events can drive plenty of traffic in the Corktown area. Several  roads will close  throughout the reopening event, but visitors can choose from nearby street parking, free parking in the 1501 Wabash St. garage on a first-come, first-served basis, riding the bus through the Detroit Department of Transportation, e-scooters or ridesharing.

What's next for Michigan Central Station after reopening?

After reopening festivities, Michigan Central will begin a "phased reactivation" of the train station for several months as restaurant, retail and other commercial and community-focused partners fill the space.

See inside Ford's new tech campus, a century-old Detroit train station restored for $950 million

DETROIT —  Ford’s  latest project out of the Motor City   is the restoration and reopening of an abandoned train station, for decades a symbol of Detroit’s downfall and now the automaker’s new technology campus.

The $950 million project encompasses the 18-story former train station called  Michigan Central Station  — once the state’s marquee transit building — an adjacent 270,000-square-foot building and other, supporting facilities.

The 30-acre “Michigan Central” campus and station was initially announced in 2018 and slated to open by 2022. However, the coronavirus pandemic and the extensive work needed to renovate the station delayed its reopening. Ford is  celebrating the restoration  of the century-old train station on Thursday.

Following the event Thursday, the ground floor of the train station building will be open to the public through June 16, before the first commercial occupants begin moving in this fall.

The new campus comes at a precarious time for  Ford investors  as the company continues to restructure its business. It also comes as many companies attempt to downsize office space and fill their current buildings with employees who grew accustomed to working from home during the pandemic.

Specifically in Detroit, a stark juxtaposition has emerged: In April, Ford’s crosstown rival  General Motors  announced it would be downsizing from its towering  Renaissance Center  headquarters along the city’s riverfront to two floors in a nearby building that’s under construction.

Yet  Ford Chair Bill Ford Jr.  said he believes the investment made in the historic train station is a crucial part of the automaker’s future, including in aspects of talent acquisition and retention.

“We’re in a war for talent, our industry and our company,” Ford, who spearheaded the project, told CNBC. “And you need to give talent two things: You need to give them, first, really interesting problems to solve, and then you have to give them a great place to work. With Michigan Central, we checked both those boxes.”

Bill Ford decided to purchase the dilapidated building after years of trips to Silicon Valley for his  Fontinalis  venture capital firm and during his tenure as a member of the  eBay  board of directors. He’s long been outspoken about the need for the traditional automotive industry to compete with newer tech companies in both product and talent acquisition.

Ford said attracting top talent to Detroit is “getting better” but noted that “it’s a tall order” to convince workers from California or the East Coast to relocate to Detroit and work for Ford.

“If you can show them a place like Michigan Central, not just in its beauty, which alone is incredible, but then talk about the kind of things that will be going on there, then it becomes, I think, a really valuable resource for the company going forward,” he said.

Train station campus

The Michigan Central campus is located southwest of Detroit’s main business district in a trendy neighborhood  known as Corktown.  It’s about 10 miles down the road from Ford’s world headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.

The Michigan Central campus in total spans 1.2 million square feet of commercial space, including retail, restaurants and hospitality. It was awarded $300 million in state, local and historic rehabilitation tax incentives, according to officials.

Ford officials went to great lengths to restore the station to its original glory after decades of vandalism and decay. The project involved 3D-scanning the rooms, matching materials and referencing historical photos to recreate parts of the building.

This was especially true for the first floor of the train station, where a grand room features massive windows, an arcade and a large concourse full of marble and terrazzo flooring, Mankato stone and other unique materials.

Architects and designers opted to leave some graffiti on walls to represent the station’s dormant years after closing in 1988.

As one measure of Ford’s determination, officials traced the facility’s original limestone to a quarry in Indiana only to find out it had since closed. Michigan Central worked with the owners to reopen the quarry.

“It has been painstakingly and lovingly restored to, wherever possible, to its original condition,” said Josh Sirefman, Michigan Central CEO, during a tour of the project. “Before we start activating it with lots of things, it’s probably in its most pristine condition.”

Amid national commercial real estate challenges, about two-thirds of the tower has scheduled tenants or planned use cases, officials said. That includes an unnamed restaurant and hotel, pending rezoning approval.

The adjacent building, known as the Detroit Public Schools Book Depository, already houses more than 600 employees from nearly 100 startup companies.

“It really is the beginning of the ecosystem that I want to create,” Bill Ford said. “There’s going to be a lot of experimentation taking place down there.”

Ford plans to house  at least 2,500 employees  in the building, primarily members of the company’s electric vehicle and connected services teams. Roughly 1,000 of those employees are expected to move into the station’s tower by the end of this year, Ford said.

Other building occupants could include local universities, other businesses and a restaurant. However, officials declined to release a full list of expected tenants.  Google , a founding partner of the project, runs its  “Code Next” program , which teaches students how to code, from the Book Depository building.

Ford said he expects future automaker employees to be able to collaborate with other occupants of the station’s tower as well as the startups occupying the Book Depository building. 

'Legacy project'

Resurrecting the train station and surrounding campus is the latest project Bill Ford, a great-grandson of company founder Henry Ford, has undertaken in the Motor City.

He was instrumental in moving the  Ford family-owned Detroit Lions  from suburban Pontiac to a new stadium, appropriately named Ford Field, in downtown Detroit in 2002. He also was part of the team that brought the Super Bowl to the city in 2006.

And he redeveloped the company’s River Rouge Assembly plant into a “green” production facility amid calls to close it. It’s now a tourist destination for the production of the Ford F-150 full-size pickup.

Ford, who served as CEO of the automaker from 2001 to 2006, described Michigan Central as a continuation of such projects. He called the effort a “legacy project” for himself as well as for those who have been able to work on it.

“I’m very proud of both of those [prior projects], but I think this is going to kind of put an exclamation point on it because this will be a wonderful place to work but it will also be a wonderful place for the public to come,” Ford said.

Detroit Lions to host NFL draft event for season ticket holders at Ford Field

Want to watch the NFL draft at Ford Field?

Well, if you are a season ticket holder for the Detroit Lions , you're in luck.

The Lions sent an email to season ticket holders on Saturday letting them know the team would be hosting a private draft party for "Lions Loyal Members" at Ford Field on the first night of the draft, April 25. The event invitation will be sent to Lions' season ticket holders on April 4, per the email, with tickets to attend priced at $25 per person.

The event will be hosted by T.J. Lang, the former Lions lineman and current radio sideline reporter with WXYT-FM (97.1), and Lions public address announcer Chris Fritzsching. Along with watching the draft live, there will be "prizes, games, Ford Field tours & so much more" along with $40 in Lions Loot, money season ticket holders can use at Ford Field, to use for food and beverages. Parking can be purchased for $40 when buying tickets and the event will permit re-entry into Ford Field.

INFO TO KNOW: Registration to attend NFL draft in Detroit now open: What you need to know

The event, though it is for the draft and happening just blocks away, is not affiliated with the actual NFL draft, happening in Campus Martius down to Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. To attend the NFL draft experience downtown, fans must register for free using the NFL OnePass app . There are currently a limited number of tickets available in the NFL draft theater, where the selections are made, for the second and third days of the draft.

The free-to-attend NFL draft experience will include a "Taste of Detroit" tailgate featuring dozens of local Detroit restaurants and five Detroit food trucks on location throughout the event, football challenges such as a 40-yard dash, autograph stations to meet NFL legends and take pictures with Super Bowl memorabilia and a number of youth activities hosted at Corner Ballpark, the site of Tiger Stadium in Corktown.

The experience will run downtown throughout the NFL draft, scheduled for April 25-27. The season ticket event at Ford Field is only happening on the first night for the first round.

DETROIT – Kenny Chesney knows how to throw the summer into high gear. Having spent last spring and early summer with his taking-it-to-the-roots I Go Back 2023 Tour of those arenas and markets where he rose to major headlining status, the only country artist to be on Billboard ’s Top 10 Touring Artists of the Last 25 Years for the past 14 years is bringing old friends and new to 18 full-scale stadiums with a few more major surprises to come. 

Joining Chesney is the multiple GRAMMY-winning Zac Brown Band , enjoying their 12th CMA Group of the Year nomination; 2023 CMA Song of the Year and New Artist nominee Megan Moroney ; and multiple-week No. 1 “When The Sun Goes Down” duet partner Uncle Kracker , known for his own hits “Follow Me” and “Drift Away.” 

“I wanted a name that suggested – obviously – when all the good stuff starts to happen. The one thing I’ve learned about No Shoes Nation and these stadium shows is they start the good times 

early and they just keep it going,” Chesney says of his 2024 tour name. “But we all know, when the sun goes down, that’s when people really get loose and enjoy themselves. 

“That was the thing about Kracker and my song. It captured a vibe and a moment so perfectly. No matter how much fun you’re having all day long, ‘ everything gets hotter when the sun goes down...’ I know from years of experience that’s true. 

“So, I can’t wait to get back out there, stadium-sized ’cause there’s nothing like 60,000 members of No Shoes Nation singing these songs. It’s gonna be awesome.” 

Kicking off April 20, 2024 at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, the tour will run through August 23 at Foxborough, Mass.’s Gillette Stadium for what has become a tradition: closing out the tour in a venue Chesney has played to well over a million people. Tickets for these major stadium shows will go on-sale next Friday, Nov. 17. 

“Zac Brown Band understands high-energy country, the same way Alabama did, and they’ve got our friend Caroline Jones in their line-up now, too,” Chesney says of the group joining as direct support. “Megan Moroney isn’t just one of the smart new voices in country, she’s really bringing a sense of heart and joy to the music – and I’m fired up to be bringing her out to No Shoes Nation. 

“And Uncle Kracker has been part of so many fun times, crazy moments and memories made, it always kicks things up a notch when he’s out there with us. So, it really is old friends, new friends and a whole lotta love.”

The following guidelines have been established for guest behavior:

 - Please restrict movement in the seating area during game action.

 - Sit only in your ticketed seat and show tickets to a Ford Field representative upon request.

 - Never take matters into your own hands. To report a problem or unruly fan contact the nearest Ford Field representative if any incident arises

The following actions may lead to ticket revocation, ejection and/or arrest:

 - Displaying inconsiderate or otherwise inappropriate behavior towards others.

 - Behavior that is unruly, unhealthy, disruptive or illegal in nature.

 - Using foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.

Violators found smoking or chewing/spitting tobacco inside of the stadium are subject to immediate ejection.

 - Attempting to access areas without the proper ticket and/or credential, or misuse of tickets and/or credentials, or sitting in a seat other than your assigned ticket location.

 - Failing to provide a ticket and/or seating information to a Ford Field representative upon request.

 - Wearing obscene or indecent clothing.

 - Damaging or destruction to the building or property surrounding Ford Field including the parking areas.

 - Failing to follow the instructions of Ford Field representatives.

 - Offenses against anyone including players, coaches, officials, opposing team fans and staff will not be tolerated including foul language, racial slurs, verbal abuse, or throwing objects.

 - Interference with the progress of the game.

 - Sale, promotion, exchange or giveaway of unauthorized handouts, items or goods.

DETROIT - Diana Ross will perform. Jack White will perform. Big Sean will perform. Fantasia, Common, Melissa Etheridge, Jelly Roll and The Clark Sisters will perform. So, what about Eminem? Will one of the biggest music artists in history perform at “ Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central ?”

UPDATE : Eminem surprises with four songs at Michigan Central concert

15,000 people will attend the free concert on the grounds of the restored, iconic building on Thursday, June 6. The concert will stream live on Peacock and will also be shown locally, live on WDIV-TV. It will also be shown edited as a one-hour primetime special on NBC on Sunday, June 9 at 8:30 p.m. There will also be watch parties at some Detroit parks and businesses.

Eminem and his longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg, are executive producers of the concert. The Detroit rapper is not listed as a performer, but as we all know, Eminem likes to make surprise, grand entrances, like he did at Ed Sheeran’s 2023 Ford Field concert and at 50 Cent’s Pine Knob show last year.

The recipe is perfect for a surprise Eminem performance as the show will be shown live nationally twice, he’s the executive producer of it, and he’s set to release his upcoming new album , “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” this summer. He dropped the album’s first single, “Houdini,” last Friday.

Joining the performers “Live from Detroit” will be a number of famous Detroit faces as presenters, like Barry Sanders, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jared Goff, Judge Greg Mathis, Loni Love, Sam Richardson, Taylor Lautner, Mike Epps and Sophia Bush.

Michigan Central first opened back in 1913. It closed in 1988 where it lay abandoned until Ford purchased it in 2018. After a six year restoration, Ford just unveiled this week what the inside looks like today.
