Event Information

With newly minted memories of their CalJam 17 triumph still fresh in the eyes and ears of 30,000+ true rock believers, and with Concrete and Gold (Roswell Records/RCA Records) still riding high in the charts worldwide since its international #1 debut, Foo Fighters have announced the next phase of the Concrete and Gold global domination initiative: The first 2018 North American dates of the Concrete and Gold world tour have been confirmed: The new shows will kick off April 18 in Austin, Texas and will run through the band’s July 29 return to Chicago’s Wrigley Field. Included on the newly announced itinerary is a July 16-17 two-night stand at New York’s Madison Square Garden, a July 21-22 encore doubleheader at Boston’s Fenway Park. Tickets for these shows will be on sale to the general public Friday, November 3 at 10am local time (*with the exception of the public on sale for Chicago, which will begin November 10). Capital One cardholders will have access to an exclusive cardholder pre-sale for Foo Fighters Concrete and Gold Tour. The Capital One cardholder pre-sale starts Thursday, October 26 at 10 a.m.local venue time and ends Saturday, October 28 at 10 a.m. local venue time, or until pre-sale tickets run out. Capital One cardholder pre-sale for the Chicago date will begin Monday, November 6 at 10 a.m. Visit www.foofighters.com/capitalone for more details and information. Foo Fighters kicked off the first U.S. leg of the Concrete and Gold Tour October 12 with an intimate show by FF standards—the grand opening of The Anthem in Washington DC—a performance that USA Today noted "transformed the venue into a raucous rock cathedral.” In the days since, Foo Fighters have continued to storm through sold out arenas in Richmond VA, Greensboro SC, Cincinnati and more. The first Foo Fighters global trek since the 20th Anniversary trek that placed #5 in 2015’s top grossing world tours, the Concrete and Gold Tour has seen the Foos reaching new peaks of their estimable powers. "Foo Fighters keep going and going and going in epic Greensboro show,” wrote the Charlotte Observer, "If there’s one thing you can count on lately when you walk into a Foo Fighters concert, it’s that you probably won’t get home until tomorrow.” The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported, "Having played and sung all night with a seemingly endless store of energy, Grohl noted as midnight approached, 'I’m going to feel like I was run over by a truck tomorrow.’” And the Washington Post called the Anthem opener "a rock-and-roll clinic from Foo Fighters,” adding "when it was time to officially open the venue... the Anthem called in the only band with the local roots and international fame that could pull it off: Foo Fighters… That’s exactly what Grohl and friends did, treating the Anthem like a new leather jacket: turning something that glimmers with newness and making it feel as cozy as a childhood home.” For further updates on the 2017-2018 Concrete and Gold World Tour, continue to check www.foofighters.com

U.S. STADIUM DATES 2024

Tickets On Sale Friday, October 6 at 10am Local Time

Pre-sales and additional information at foofighters.com, support acts to include pretenders, the hives, mammoth wvh, amyl and the sniffers, alex g and l7, “grohl and his counterparts—chris shiflett, nate mendel, pat smear, rami jaffee and newly inked drummer josh freese—always come wholly alive when they are in concert” — chicago sun-times.

With their universally acclaimed 11th album But Here We Are stacking up Best of 2023 So Far accolades and singles “Rescued” and “Under You” cementing the band’s tally of more #1s than any other artist at Rock and Alternative Radio, Foo Fighters have confirmed a massive run of summer 2024 U.S. Stadium dates. The newly announced leg of the Everything or Nothing at All Tour will kick off with the band’s return to New York’s Citi Field for the first time since 2015 for a July 17 and 19 doubleheader and will see Foo Fighters host 12 rock ’n’ roll marathons at 10 stadiums, including a pair of shows August  9 and 11 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

General on sale for tickets begins Friday, October 6 at 10am local time. For pre-sales and further information, please visit foofighters.com .

Foo Fighters’ 2024 stadium dates will mark the band’s biggest U.S. headline shows since the June 2 release of But Here We Are , which has landed on the mid-year best of lists of Alternative Press, Consequence, Entertainment Weekly, The Los Angeles Times, Loudwire and Uproxx among others, while generating some of the most positive critical notes in Foo Fighters history, including:

“Tragedy isn’t necessary to produce transcendent music. But here, it did.” — THE ATLANTIC

“★★★★★ Stunning … a standout, and at times stunning, piece of work … quite possibly their best and most meaningful album.” – GOLDMINE

“Explosive, emotional and inspired… a back-to-basics immediacy and intensity… The undercurrent holding all of ‘But Here We Are’ together is not an idea so much as raw emotion. Grohl’s melodies are as soaring and anthemic as they’ve sounded in years; his vocals are freshly impassioned and heartfelt.” — THE NEW YORK TIMES

“A fantastic record full of riffs and reflection… so catchy and vibrant, so brimming with wild-eyed wonder… Grohl clearly understands that we honor departed loved ones by building new joys we wish they were around to share.” – NPR

“Dave Grohl gives himself over to arena-sized grief, reckoning, and resolve on the band’s most propulsive and purposeful music of the last two decades… offering earnest hope, fond reminiscence, and skyscraping choruses” — PITCHFORK

“One of the strongest albums of the band’s career… reckoning with the conundrums of human existence through the sheer power of music” — SPIN

“Memorable and meaningful” — USA TODAY

“Aching directness and wounded sweetness make a potent combination here… But Here We Are pulses with the sense that the future happened too quickly, and we’re all having to navigate situations and handle emotions we thought we’d get to much later in life. These songs chart the push through denial into the acceptance of the reality of death and the lifetime journey of bereavement.” — VULTUR

Support on the various dates will come from Pretenders, The Hives, Mammoth WVH, Amyl and The Sniffers, Alex G and L7. See below for a full list of dates and details.

Could Foo Fighters be coming to Pittsburgh next year?

Mike Palm

The Foo Fighters took to social media on Friday with cryptic posts that appear to be teasing a tour in 2024. And there could be a Pittsburgh appearance.

The posts on Facebook, Instagram and X all had the same message: “ 2024 | Everything or Nothing At All #FF2024” with a 15-second clip of their song “Nothing At All” from this year’s “But Here We Are” album.

The alternative rockers — fronted by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl — have played some shows and festivals this year after taking time off because of the sudden death of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.

The official Twitter account of PPG Paints Arena shared a similar post Friday.

Their last Pittsburgh appearance came in 2018 at PPG Paints Arena on their Concrete and Gold tour.

Breaking News

Biden and trump debate amid stumbles, bumbles and falsehoods, latest headlines, rock music menu: foo fighters kicking off north american tour near pittsburgh, come to philadelphia in july.

The Foo Fighters will play Lincoln ...

It’s not exactly the closest place for our intents and purposes, but the gigs begin in, of all places, Burgettstown, which might as well just advertise themselves as being in Pittsburgh. They are kicking it off in Western Pennsylvania May 4, but thankfully the Foos are coming much closer as the summer wears on. The band appear at the Linc July 24, a gigantic leap forward in the attempt at moving into the stadium setting.

Tickets for the shows go on sale Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. The 2022 dates will mark Foo Fighters’ most extensive North American run since the February release of their latest – and 10th – album, ‘Medicine at Midnight.’ Cheeky as ever, the rockers are noting how this is their 27th anniversary tour and promise special guests to be announced soon.

It hasn’t all been smooth sailing since the shows were revealed; just hours after the tour was announced, a night in Minnesota at the Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis was scrapped, under mysterious Covid protocols that didn’t jibe with the Foos.

“Due to Huntington Bank Stadium’s refusal to agree to the band’s Covid safety measures, Foo Fighters are unable to perform at that venue,” a statement by the band read. “We apologize for any inconvenience and are working on finding a suitable replacement – one that will prioritize the health and safety of everyone working and attending the show.”

The University of Minnesota, which houses the stadium, pushed back by saying they have been complying with federal and state Covid guidance, but that wasn’t good enough for Dave Grohl and Co. The band has said they’re looking for a new spot to throw down in the Twin Cities, but nothing has been set just yet. No worries for those in this area though; we’ve got the group on lockdown – hopefully.

VINYL OF THE WEEK

Keep an eye on this spot as each week we’ll be looking at new or soon-to-be-released vinyl from a variety of artists. It might be a re-pressing of a landmark recording, special edition or new collection from a legendary act. This week, it’s the breakthrough effort from a band who rode the mid-90s post-Britpop wave like few others.

foo fighters tour pittsburgh

TRAVIS: ‘THE INVISIBLE BAND [20TH ANNIVERSARY]’

When it came to Britpop, there were the major players like Oasis, Suede, Blur, et al, but as it petered out, there was a sort of post-Britpop explosion, none more prevalent than Scottish rock band Travis. Now, the group is commemorating the 20th anniversary of their worldwide chart-topping album ‘The Invisible Band’ with a special deluxe box set reissue.

‘The Invisible Band’ served as a major landmark for Travis, who found themselves in the limelight of success following its release. The record debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, enjoying four weeks in the top spot and a total of 25 weeks in the Top 100. Meanwhile, in the U.S., the album held rank on the Billboard 200 for seven weeks.

Travis had already become household names with their previous album, ‘The Man Who,’ winning the titles of British Group and British Album of the Year at the Brit Awards, as well as NME’s award for Artist of the Year. Then the arrival of ‘The Invisible Band’ only solidified their reputation, as Travis went on to win Band of the Year at the coveted GQ Awards in New York, and yet another Brit Award for British Group of the Year.

These days, the monumental imprint of ‘The Invisible Band’ is still very much alive today. Travis inspired a league of other bands alongside the garage-rock movement, including the likes of Keane and Coldplay, who’s Chris Martin has been publicly outspoken on the impact of the unit.

‘The Invisible Band’ and its 20th anniversary edition is available online and in stores from all respectable retailers who carry vinyl.

Have seen Dave Grohl solo, singing with his kids at the Fox Theater in Oakland for a UCSF "Notes and Words" benefit for very ill children. Amazing solo performance and moving to see him playing for his daughter Violet as she sang an Adele song. Tickets for show in San Jose in 2018 which was OK, but large arena (home of San Jose Sharks) and Cal Jam 2018. Cal Jam was very special as Dave, Pat, and Krist reunited to play a six song set of Nirvana songs, with John McCauley fronting for three songs and Joan Jett for three more. Only second reunion: first at Nirvana hall of fame induction; but this was the first at a concert open to us regular people. Made my spine tingle as much as if I could have attended a Beatles reunion. Dave was a monster on the drums, Pat killed it on the guitar, and Kris put forth his unique manner of playing bass. No bad locations at that venue. Pit, fixed seating, and lawn behind, so oldsters like me could sit during some of the warm up bands. Most recently saw the Foos at the Intersect Festival in Las Vegas this month. Less passion in this performance and while my favorite member of the Foos is Pat, he appeared intoxicated, totally spacing out at one point and cut off by Dave during his short solo for introductions. Wish he would skip the bottle of champagne on the stage. Did not like the Vegas venue, as in a very large tent with heavy smoking, excessive drinking, people holding up large signs blocking the view of many behind, and a nasty fistfight right in front of me with a drunk obnoxious guy getting the s**t kicked out of him by about 8 guys. Guess Dave did not see, as he is not tolerant of violence at this concerts. This was center stage about 10 people back, right in front of him. Had another very drunk woman come up and start grinding on me, looking as if she would vomit at any moment. Thankfully she left holding her mouth. I was not excited about the project of trying to find my way from front, center covered in her vomit. Vegas is a city of excess, and everything at this Amazon sponsored event seemed excessive. There were more bars than food stands. I was sick for a week from all of the smoke exposure. Hope they return to Cal Jam, keep indoor venues non-smoking, and definitely avoid the tent gigs.

ONE OF THE GREATEST SHOWS I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! The Foo Fighters has’t played a concert in Florida in 12 years and they had finally came. They played everything from their debut album all the way to their newest album Concrete and Gold. “All my Life”, “Run”, “The Pretender”, “This is a Call”, “Breakout”,and “Everlong” are some examples of what they played! Every song they played sounded crisp and clean. I prefer them live now over prerecorded stuff. Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Taylor Hawkins, and the rest of the gang were great at hyping up the crowd. Having simple conversation with the crowd and simply making everyone feel right at home. They also out preformed themselves playing cover songs like “Blitzkrieg Bop” by the Ramones, Van Halen’s “Jump”, Alice Cooper’s “Under my Wheels”, and “Under Pressure” by Queen. The Foo’s had a spectacular set list and made it feel more than just a Foo Fighters concert. The band had little surprises here and there throughout the show like Taylor Hawkins with a crazy drum solo that lasted for about 5 minutes! The opening act, The Struts, were also very great and played their hearts out. If you never been to a concert or never seen the Foo Fighters live, then you need to make sure you get out of your way to see these guys! They’re aboslute killers on stage! You won’t regret it! FYI if it’s an amphitheater venue it’s 10 times much better the crowd is way more fun and you can let loose and dance your ass off!

So I very recently reviewed an epic night with the Foo Fighters in DC for the 4th of July. Everything came together perfectly for the Foo's 20th Anniversary Show. Dave Grohl and company played the hits, as well as their debut album almost in its entirely. You can read the full review here.

But somehow, that show wasn't the Foo concert I was most excited for this year. No...that would be their huge Boston gig at the Beloved Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. (I'm a huge Sox fan) I had purchased presale tix to this back in November, and it was a long 8 months waiting for the highly anticipated weekend.

When it finally arrived, Boston was ready for it. Prior to the show, I walked over to a 'pop up shop' selling Foo Fighters memorabilia, only to realize their was a 20 minute wait to get into the store. The Fenway show was sold out with approximately 35,000 people in attendance. And this was just night 1 of 2 in Boston.

Following opening sets by Boston favorites Mission of Burma, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the Foo's came on right at 8pm. As was similar to the DC show, the first half was completely based on Foo Fighters greatest hits. The first 90 minutes was single after single spanning the entire Foo catalogue.

Best moment came in the middle of the set when Grohl crutched down to the end of stage and received some acoustic help from his guitarists. As they did in DC, Foo's chose to perform two of the best songs acoustically with 'My Hero' and 'Times Like These.' The volume at which the Fenway crowd sang 'My Hero' was a true highlight of the night, and may have been the best song.

Lead singer Dave Grohl definitely took some time to talk to the Fenway crowd. He explained how this was the Foo's first stadium tour, and how that was a long time coming. He listed past venues played in Boston, and what the city means to him. He also told a great story of losing his High School Battle of the Bands competition and jokingly asked what the band that won was doing tonight. This was prior to covering Queen's 'Under Pressure.' Overall, Grohl was in a chatty and pleasant mood.

With the injury still bothering Grohl, the guys skipped leaving stage for the encore and played straight through until about 10:45 (just shy of a 3 hour show, and passing the 10:30 curfew). The final closer was 'Best of You,' giving the Fenway crowd one more chance to sign along with the rock band.

The only negative I would say is that since the first half of the show was so focused on the hits, the second half seemed a bit lacking. With the exception of 'Best of You,' they had nothing left to play in the last hour that could generate the same reaction and sing a long as the first 90 minutes. Maybe they could have just spaced out the most popular tunes more.

But really it was an awesome set and even more of an epic night because of the venue. Fenway is the ballpark I grew up seeing Sox games at, so it was definitely a pretty special experience to come back and see one of my favorite bands play there. I won't be forgetting this one and look to see it towards the top of the 'Best Shows of 2015' list.

Taylor Swift appears to clap back at Dave Grohl after his Eras Tour remarks

By Caitlin O'Kane

Updated on: June 25, 2024 / 11:50 AM EDT / CBS News

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl took an apparent jab at Taylor Swift during his band's London tour stop this week – and now Swift, who was also in the city for her own tour , is seemingly clapping back.

"I tell you, man, you don't want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift," Grohl told the crowd at London Stadium on Saturday.

Just across the city at Wembley Stadium, Swift was performing the second of three shows on her Eras Tour stop in the English capital.

"So we like to call our tour the 'Errors Tour,'" Grohl joked. "We've had more than a few eras and more than a few f***ing errors as well. Just a couple. That's because we actually play live."

Videos of Grohl's remarks were posted online and some people took him to mean Swift doesn't perform live.

The next night, during her third show in London, Swift appeared to respond to Grohl's comments without naming any names. "Every one of my band members, every single one of our crew, my band, who's gonna be playing live for you for 3.5 hours tonight, they deserve this so much," she said. "And so does every one of my fellow performers."

Swift's Era's tour has been wildly successfu l and last year became the  first concert tour to gross more than $1 billion , according to Pollstar.

Many celebrities were spotted during Swift's London shows – including Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear, who was photographed with Salma Hayek and Stella McCartney.

Some critics called Grohl's comments misogynistic, but supporters said he was just expressing frustration with some artists using backing vocals.

One social media user pointed out that Grohl's 17-year-old daughter faced backlash from Swifties earlier this year when she criticized the singer's use of a private jet. "Wow I wonder what prompted Dave Grohl to take a little swipe at Taylor Swift?" the person wrote on social media. "I'm sure it's totally unprovoked & not at all to do with his 17-year-old daughter being relentlessly trolled & sent death threats from Swifties because of this totally innocuous tweet back in January."

Caitlin O'Kane is a New York City journalist who works on the CBS News social media team as a senior manager of content and production. She writes about a variety of topics and produces "The Uplift," CBS News' streaming show that focuses on good news.
