Expedia’s Customer Service plays games!!!
Words simply cannot explain how irritated I am with EXPEDIA . I booked a room and was charged for it. As I pulled up to the hotel I received a call from the receptionist at the hotel telling me that there were no rooms available and they didn’t t know why Expedia booked me. I immediately called Expedia and I was put on hold for more than 50 minutes at least 3 times. This was a Saturday night. When I did get someone on the line, the kept telling me that they had to call the hotel to see if I could be refunded my money. Simply giving me the run around. It wasn’t until the following Monday that someone told me I would be refunded but it would take 7 days and it wouldn’t be the whole amount . I was like Hell No, I want my money back immediately. Why can’t people do the right thing???? Why do they Nickel and dime people. I will NEVER use this company again. It is so disrespectful to leave people on hold for a long period of time hoping they will hang up. This is so wrong and extremely unprofessional. STOP TAKING PEOPLE’s Money if you aren’t going to go over and beyond to make sure they are accommodated and treated with the utmost respect. Unacceptable! I will do everything I can to spread the word about this company.
Expedia STOLE my $$$!!! ( after posting review they gave a refund)
Update: Expedia reached out. I called them back and the lady I spoke to was very understanding. They issued me a refund for my rental car. Thank you Expedia for making this situation right! I booked a flight, hotel and rental car through Expedia. Prepaid for all of it. Upon getting to the airport at 12:30 am the Hertz rental car worker was extremely rude and told us we could not take our rental car that was paid in full because we did not have a credit card. (We don’t do debt) There is a policy that allows customers to use a debit card if they have two proofs of identification and a return flight booked. He didn’t even consider letting us use that option. He closed shop and went home (clearly didn’t want to be there). A very nice lady working at the Avis counter gave us a number for a taxi to the hotel (thank goodness one was open at this time of night). We then notified Expedia and they absolutely refused to give us a vehicle or refund! We still needed a rental to get to our grandfather’s funeral. They were no help. They said because we didn’t have a credit card, they couldn’t refund us. We paid for nothing!! And Hertz assured us they were not paid for the car. (They also assured us they would deal with their rude employee) This is unacceptable, especially since their policy states that a debit card could have been used. I will NEVER use Expedia again!!!!!
Developer Response ,
We’re sorry you’ve had a frustrating experience with our customer service team. We want to better understand what’s happened, but unfortunately, we can’t direct message in the app store. Can you reach out to our direct support channels at Expedia.com/service so we can look into this for you?
Website needs an update
II have used Expedia for years. Today I ran into an issue I hadn’t experienced before that raises a concern. I recently completed a trip that involved two separate payments - original payment for two rooms, second payment when I added an extra night to the hotel reservation. When we checked into hotel, Expedia agent had only added the extra night to ONE of the rooms and hotel clerk did not find the other reservation as it was still for the NEXT day check-in. So hotel charged me for the full stay for the second room. I called Expedia and got a refund for other second room, thankfully. Then I discovered the hotel overcharged me for the second room AND the extra night I added for both rooms at the end of our stay. I logged into Expedia to get copies of the two payments I had made for the rooms, and discovered Expedia only had the receipt for the last transaction - refund they had sent me. There was NO record of the original two payments for the trip itinerary. They ONLY keep the most recent transaction on an itinerary! This created a huge problem and I ended up spending almost an HOUR on chat with agents who had to manually create two receipts documenting the details for the two payments. What account websites delete original payment receipts if they issue you a partial refund??? Their system should keep records of ALL transactions for each trip/itinerary.
Hi, we’re so sorry you’ve had this frustrating experience. We would like to understand more and see if there’s anything we can do, but unfortunately, we can’t direct message on this platform. Can you reach out to our direct support channels at Expedia.com/service, so we can investigate for you?

When it comes to Expedia prices
When it comes to expedia travel insurance, when it comes to the expedia cancellation policy, when it comes to the expedia loyalty program, when it comes to maximizing credit card points, the pros and cons of expedia recapped.
Frequent travelers likely know that there’s something better than a dream trip: a dream trip that you booked on a bargain.
The ways to save money on travel are plentiful. You can redeem hotels and airline points, or take advantage of last-minute travel deals, to name a few. And booking through third-party online travel agencies like Expedia can sometimes yield especially big savings.
Beyond just deals, Expedia has robust search filters that make finding your perfect vacation easy. It streamlines purchasing trip insurance , which can be especially important for travel these days. Plus, the Expedia Rewards program earns you points to pay for future bookings.
But booking through an OTA like Expedia is not without its drawbacks. Here's a look at some of those to help you weigh the pros and cons of booking travel through Expedia.
Pro: Expedia has frequent sales, last-minute travel deals and bundle discounts
Expedia deals are aplenty, whether it’s a bundling discount or a sale.
Bundling: A major component of booking travel on Expedia is the practice of bundling, where you can expect additional savings for booking more than one product (e.g., flight and hotel, or hotel and attraction ticket) in one transaction. For example, when we searched for a hotel and rental car in Miami, one five-day booking option included up to three free rental car days while another offered one free night.
A perk of booking travel through Expedia is that you select your hotel, airfare and car rental in separate steps in the process. This makes it easy to bookmark the page and compare the cost of these items on Expedia versus the cost on the company’s direct website.
Expedia payment plans: If you don’t want to pay for your whole trip at the time of booking, Expedia allows you to make smaller payments through Affirm, which is a service that offers short-term loans for online purchases. If approved by Affirm , you’ll be able to pay for your trip in monthly installments.
You can also check Expedia’s Deals page and Expedia’s Last-Minute Deals page . Both tend to offer an eclectic mix of travel deals, ranging from cheap motels in tiny towns to lavish resorts in major tourist destinations. We’ve spotted deals as high as 70% off.
» Learn more: How to find cheaper last-minute flights
Con: Booking direct is sometimes still cheaper than Expedia
Sure, Expedia sales and last-minute deals are nice, but that’s not to say that you can’t find other (sometimes better) deals for booking directly with the travel provider. Many offer their own exclusive deals — and they might save you even more than booking with online travel agencies. Compare prices across both Expedia and the specific company to ensure you’re getting the best price.
And sometimes the savings go beyond just the sticker price. For example, boutique hotel chain Ovolo Hotels offers generous amenities including free laundry, happy hour refreshments and a daily breakfast buffet — but only if you book directly with them.
» Learn more: Is Expedia legit? Can it get me a good deal?
Pro: You can purchase an Expedia travel insurance policy
Expedia partners with various insurance providers, depending on your individual booking, to offer trip protection.
F or flights: Expedia offers travel insurance protection options that cover flight cancellation, medical emergencies and other covered circumstances.
For hotels: Choose hotel booking protection to reimburse your stay in the case of cancellation.
For car rentals: You can add car rental damage protection for an extra per-day fee.
Coverage varies by plan, but you can typically expect reimbursement for some (or all) trip costs if your trip is impacted by covered reasons. Covered reasons typically include delays, loss, theft or damage to one’s baggage and personal belongings. You’re also typically reimbursed for covered medical expenses, including emergency evacuation if you get sick or injured during your trip.
But there are many limitations and exclusions, so read your policy’s fine print to understand what’s covered.
Expedia 24-hour cancellation
When you book a flight on Expedia, you can cancel for a full refund as long as you do so within 24 hours of booking. The U.S. Department of Transportation requires airlines to allow you to cancel a flight for a full refund if canceled within 24 hours of booking and it was booked seven days before departure.
Con: Outside travel insurance might be more comprehensive or cheaper (and sometimes free)
You can opt out of Expedia’s travel insurance and either be completely uninsured — or simply acquire your insurance elsewhere. And there are better travel insurance policies out there.
After a comprehensive review of dozens of plans that assessed factors including price and COVID-19 coverage, here are the best travel insurance policies .
What’s more, you might not even need to pay for travel insurance at all. Many credit cards offer travel insurance benefits if you paid for your trip with that card.
Pro: Expedia offers some fully refundable options
Because airlines, hotels and other travel services set their own individual policies on Expedia, change and cancellation policies can vary significantly. While it can be tricky to parse the policies for each individual property, use Expedia’s “fully refundable” search filter to limit potential bookings to those with flexible policies.
For straightforward requests, use the Expedia service page to make changes and get a refund. If you’re unable to get help through Expedia’s self-service tools, other ways to get in touch with Expedia include live chat, a dedicated Twitter account ( @expediahelp ) and a phone line.
Con: Most cancellation policies are bad, confusing or both
Because airlines are required to give full refunds if you cancel within 24 hours of booking, Expedia lets you change or cancel your flight reservation without fees within the same time period.
For everything else, good luck. Because each travel provider sets its own policies, navigating them can be a headache. In some cases, canceling through Expedia means you’ll have to chase after the hotel or activity provider to recoup the costs.
Additionally, prepare for cancellation fees (both Expedia’s own fees as well as fees from the service provider). That’s if you’re able to cancel at all. Some bookings through Expedia are nonrefundable altogether.
Pro: It’s great for commitment-phobes
The new Expedia Rewards program, One Key Rewards, lets you earn OneKeyCash for every booking you make on the platform (plus on Vrbo and Hotels.com), which can then be used like cash toward future trips. Not only that, but Expedia users can earn status, which includes benefits like exclusive members-only discounts and extra benefits at VIP Access properties (such as free breakfast or late checkout).
For travelers who don’t like to commit to one airline or hotel company, don’t travel that frequently, or who book travel that otherwise doesn’t have its own loyalty program (like a tour or vacation rental), Expedia makes it possible to still get rewarded.
» Learn more: The guide to One Key Rewards
Con: Most hotel and airline loyalty programs are far more rewarding
While the One Key Rewards program is fine, most travel loyalty programs tied to specific hotels or airlines are almost always more rewarding. For individual point values, most other currencies of airline and hotel points are worth far more than OneKeyCash, which nets you 2% back on cruise, hotel, activity and rental car bookings but only .2% on flights. Once it's in your account, you can use it to pay for bookings just like you would cash — though you’ll need enough OneKeyCash in your account to pay for an entire flight, not just part of it.
Additionally, holding specific airline or hotel elite status is typically more lucrative than the value of elite status on One Key Rewards as most perks extend to Expedia VIP Access properties only. That said, some elite members can enjoy up to 20% discounts on hotels and free price drop protection on flights, which is a plus.
As for how to use Expedia points, OneKeyCash can be redeemed on “pay now” bookings for participating purchases priced in U.S. dollars. You can use it to pay for part of a hotel booking, but you’ll have to have enough to pay for the full cost of a flight (including taxes and fees). And while you can’t transfer rewards, you can use your OneKeyCash to book travel for others.
But depending what status you’re able to reach with individual brand loyalty programs, you can likely expect better perks. So if you’re fine committing to one brand, you’re almost always better off striving to earn its status versus with One Key Rewards. But if you only stay for a night here or there or prefer to book based on location or price, it’s a way to earn a few more rewards.
Pro: Expedia counts as a travel purchase
Many travel rewards credit cards give you a higher rewards rate on travel purchases, and booking sites like Expedia typically count as travel spending. For example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card earns 2 points per dollar on travel spending, compared with 1 point per dollar on most purchases.
Con: Travel credit cards are usually better for earning and redeeming rewards
If you’re loyal to a specific hotel or airline brand — or are open to pledging allegiance — credit cards aligned with those brands typically pay more on purchases directly from the brand partner. For example:
on American Express' website
on Chase's website
• 2 miles per $1 spent on Delta purchases.
Terms apply.
• 2 miles per $1 spent on United purchases.
• 12 points per $1 spent on eligible Hilton purchases.
• 6 points per $1 spent at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels.
• 1 mile per $1 spent.
• 3 points per $1 spent.
• 2 points per $1 spent.
Even general-purpose travel rewards cards that aren't tied to a specific airline or hotel chain will often reward you more handsomely for booking through their own portals than they would for going through a site like Expedia. Going back to the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card : As mentioned, it earns 2 points per dollar on most travel purchases — but 5 points per dollar on travel booked through the Chase portal . Among general-purpose travel cards:
• 5 miles per $1 on hotels and car rentals booked through Capital One Travel.
• 2 miles per $1 on other purchases.
• 5 points per $1 spent on travel booked through Chase.
• 10 points per $1 spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Chase.
• 5 points per $1 on air travel booked through Chase.
• 5 points per $1 spent on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel, on up to $500,000 spent per year.
• 5 points per $1 on prepaid hotels booked with American Express Travel.
• 2 miles per $1 spent.
• 1 point per $1 spent.
If you're considering booking with other online travel agencies like Priceline or Hotels.com, here are the best credit cards for online travel booking websites .
With the right deal, booking travel — including flights, hotels, cruises or car rentals — on Expedia could be worth it. It makes searching for travel relatively easy given the massive array of available listings, coupled with thoughtful search functionality to actually help you create your ideal itinerary.
But don’t automatically assume it’s a cheap way to book travel. Especially given the complicated cancellation policies, it might become among the most expensive, should an uninsured trip need to be canceled.

Which AI trip planning tool is the best? Here's how Expedia's and Booking.com's compared.
- Expedia Group's Romie and Booking.com's AI Trip Planner are AI-powered travel tools that can help travelers plan and manage their trips.
- Both tools can recommend destinations, places to stay, and things to do and even create a full itinerary for your trip.
- However, these AI travel planners are still in their early stages and can't yet be relied on completely.
This new travel adviser can help travelers plan and manage their trip – and then come with them on vacation.
Expedia Group revealed a new artificial intelligence assistant last month that users can access anytime via their phones. Named Romie, the alpha version available now via Expedia’s iOS app in the U.S., can help build itineraries, summarize travel plans discussed in group chats, warn customers of trip disruptions and more.
Jeff Miller, Distinguished Product Manager at Expedia Group, said “travel is a complicated business and part of the complexity is about orchestrating and managing all the parts of your trip.” The company previously introduced a travel planning feature powered by ChatGPT last year, but the new assistant marks an expansion of its AI capabilities.
“Romie’s job is to meet you where you are, not wait for you to come,” he said. The feature uses the same OpenAI models that power ChatGPT, but Expedia is “open to using other tech or models” as well.

Romie is the latest AI-powered travel tool , joining other travel platforms utilizing the technology to make a seamless, more customized experience for travelers. In an Oct. 2023 Booking.com survey of more than 27,000 travelers across 33 countries, 56% said they want to use AI to help inform upcoming travels.
Last summer, Booking.com launched its own AI Trip Planner, which also uses ChatGPT to help travelers find accommodations and build out personalized itineraries.
“Imagine having a conversation (with) the AI Trip Planner and being able to render or change what you see (on the Booking.com website) to match the content of your conversation,” Adrienne Enggist, Senior Director of Product at Booking.com , told USA TODAY. “The hyper-personalization, really, can be supercharged to make your travel planning more productive, much easier.”
USA TODAY’s Nathan Diller and Kathleen Wong tested Romie’s itinerary-building capabilities against Booking.com’s AI Trip Planner to see what it’s like using AI to plan a trip to Rome from Sept. 9-12. Here’s what they found.
What is it like to use Romie?
I started by making a hotel booking on Expedia, which users need to use Romie’s itinerary-building features. iPhone users in the U.S. can opt-in to access the early version of Romie via the EG Labs section of the Expedia app, but the company does not yet have a public launch date.
I reserved a room at Suitedreams – just under $627 for three nights in September – with an “excellent” rating and over 1,000 reviews. Then I phoned a friend (or AI assistant, rather) to help with the rest.
When I clicked through to my itinerary, Romie suggested restaurants near the hotel unprompted, with distances listed. When I clicked on one, it took me to a chat function where I could see various restaurants’ Yelp ratings, hours of operation and other info. I could peruse certain details from there, but other buttons moved me to the Yelp app.
Romie cannot complete restaurant reservations for users, but I was able to add bookings to my itinerary by telling the chatbot when I’d be eating. Miller emphasized that Romie is not “just automatically charging your credit card on your behalf.”
“We don't think that experience is quite ready yet, let’s put it that way,” he said. “But we do think that we can still guide you to be able to take action for yourselves.”
Romie also recommended “some of the best things to do” in Rome, like the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums. The chatbot was also able to suggest bookstores when I asked and give me directions to one I selected. When I requested other activities near my hotel, Romie provided several tours I could book through the Expedia app.
I did run into some hiccups when I clicked on the Colosseum option Romie listed on my itinerary page. The AI program pulled up a “B&B in Rome 2 stops from” the landmark, even though I already had a hotel. When I clicked on the listing, it took me to what looked like an external website that suggested I book it on Airbnb – a competitor to Expedia Group’s Vrbo.
When I asked whether I needed tickets for the Vatican Museums, Romie said yes, sharing a website where I could buy them. But the URL was not hyperlinked and I could not click through, nor could I copy and paste it from my phone, meaning I’d have to manually type it into my browser.
Curious to try another method of communication, I added Romie to my phone contacts to use its text message feature. Romie was similarly able to recommend coffee shops near my hotel that way, but this time, I had to tell the bot where I was staying. Unlike in the app, it did not have my booking information.
I also requested help with booking a rental car. Romie acknowledged my parameters – my travel dates and the budget I shared – and sent me an Expedia link. However, when I clicked on it, I was shown hotel listings.
At one point, I asked for a full itinerary for my three-night trip. Romie asked about my interests – I listed food, historical sites and art – and offered a detailed plan with activity and dining suggestions for the morning, afternoon and evening. I tried that separately with the in-app chat function and was given less of a true itinerary than a list of things to do.
“Launching an early version of Romie in EG Labs provides registered participants with the opportunity to test out products and share their feedback in real-time to help Expedia troubleshoot bugs prior to public launch,” Miller said.
Romie’s other features fell outside the purview of my hypothetical trip, but Miller said the tool will get to know users’ preferences over time, with “progressive intelligence” being a key principle.
“An assistant that forgets what you told it isn't very useful, especially in a complex process like travel planning that we all know takes weeks or sometimes months,” he said. “So, that notion that Romie’s learning as it goes and remembering is very important to what we think an assistant needs to do.”
Based on my test run with the current version of Romie, I’d recommend it to travelers as a starting point for generating ideas and tracking itinerary items of interest. However, given the apparent glitches in the user experience, I wouldn’t rely solely on the tool.

How to use AI to plan a vacation: And what you should know first
What’s it like to use Booking.com’s AI Trip Planner?
Booking.com’s AI Trip Planner is only accessible via the Booking.com mobile app in English-speaking markets, including the U.S., U.K., Australia and New Zealand. Once I created an account, a pop-up screen prompted me to “start chatting” with the AI Trip Planner. The AI tool greeted me and asked how it could help my trip planning – it also warned me that it’s “still learning.”
According to Enggist, the AI language model is still in its “early discovery, early planning space.” It acts like a well-traveled friend who can provide guidance based on your answers, interests and tastes. The tool can recommend destinations, places to stay, and things to do and even create a full itinerary for your trip.
“It’s less about generating search results and more about curating lists of things that are potentially ideal for you,” she said.
In the future, Booking.com hopes to “extend the helper all the way through the journey,” like updating your ground transportation if your flight is delayed, Enggist said.
I asked the AI Trip Planner to find me a hotel room in Rome for three nights in September, and it asked for specifics, like a preferred location or type of hotel. I said it would be my first time, and I didn’t know where to start. The tool responded with three hotel options, all of which are based in Rome’s city center, highly rated and cost between $264 and $602 for the stay.
While I could learn more about the hotels and read their reviews on the app, I couldn’t book directly through the AI Trip Planner. For that, I’d have to go to the hotel’s page on the app or website. I also couldn’t book a rental car through the AI Trip Planner.
I then asked the AI Trip Planner to come up with things for me to do during my trip, and it gave me eight “popular attractions and activities,” such as visiting the Colosseum and the Pantheon – typical Rome must-dos. I asked if the tool could help me get tickets to the Colosseum, and it told me that I had to visit the website for the Colosseum or a third-party vendor like Viator to do so.
“The AI Trip Planner makes recommendations that are more niche or more hidden gems,” Enggist said. However, I found that even when I gave more specifics about what to do – like if I were a foodie – the first results were still the most popular or famous choices, which also means crowds and often overly touristy places.
When I asked for vegan restaurant recommendations, it gave me five. Although there were no links for me to learn more or how to contact the restaurants, I was able to ask for more detailed descriptions, like what I could expect from their menu and the atmosphere.
I asked the AI Trip Planner to help me get from one of the recommended hotels to one of the suggested vegan restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised at how detailed the results were: I was told the stations and lines if I wanted to use the metro, or take a 20-minute walk “through some of Rome’s most beautiful neighborhoods.”
Finally, I asked the AI Trip Planner to give me a three-day itinerary in Rome if I love food and am vegan. It broke down each day into the morning, lunch, afternoon and dinner, including what to do and where to eat each meal. The itinerary is a good starting point for travelers, but since it told me to visit the Colosseum and Roman Forum in the afternoon – which is peak visiting time – I’m not sure it accounts for crowds or long lines.
While I wouldn’t depend on the AI Trip Planner for my complete trip itinerary, I would certainly turn to it for help finding accommodations and initial ideas in the beginning stages of my trip planning.
If I were hoping to go on a beach vacation and had a budget in mind but no destination, this is where chatting with the AI Trip Planner would come in handy. I also liked how it helped narrow down my hotel options based on location and price, which is sometimes a challenging yet essential part of planning a vacation. Based on the vagueness of the AI Trip Planner when asked about day-to-day activities, I likely wouldn’t use the tool for restaurant recommendations or things to do since you need to leave the platform to book or get further details anyway.
These AI travel planners are designed to personalize and simplify the travel planning process. Although they aren't yet at the stage where you can rely on them completely, only time will tell.

Does Expedia Have 24-Hour Customer Service? Everything You Need to Know
Traveling can be an incredibly exciting experience, but it can also be stressful when things don’t go according to plan. That’s where customer service comes in, and when it comes to booking travel, you want to make sure the company you choose has reliable and efficient customer service. Expedia is one of the largest online travel agencies in the world, but does it have 24-hour customer service? In this blog post, we’ll explore the ins and outs of Expedia’s customer service, including whether or not they offer 24-hour support, how to contact them, and the pros and cons of using their customer service. Whether you’re a frequent traveler or just planning your next vacation, this post will provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about using Expedia.
What is Expedia?
Expedia is an online travel agency that was founded in 1996 as a division of Microsoft. In 2001, it became a standalone company and has since grown to become one of the largest online travel companies in the world. Expedia operates in over 70 countries, offering travelers the ability to book flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises, and vacation packages. The company has a vast network of travel partners, including airlines, hotels, and car rental companies, which allows them to offer customers a wide range of travel options at competitive prices.
Expedia’s website is user-friendly and easy to navigate, with a variety of search filters that make it easy to find the perfect travel options for your needs. The website also offers travel guides and reviews, so you can get a better idea of what to expect from your trip. Expedia has also developed mobile apps for iOS and Android, making it easy for travelers to book their trips on the go.
One of the unique features of Expedia is the Expedia Rewards program. This program allows customers to earn points on their bookings, which can then be redeemed for discounts on future travel. Expedia Rewards members also have access to exclusive deals and promotions.
Expedia’s Customer Service
Expedia has a reputation for providing excellent customer service, and they offer a variety of ways for customers to get in touch with them. Customers can contact Expedia’s customer service team via phone, email, or live chat. The company also has a dedicated customer service Twitter account (@ExpediaHelp) where customers can ask for help or get support.
Expedia’s customer service team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to assist customers with any questions or issues they may have. The company has customer service teams located around the world, which allows them to provide support in multiple languages.
In addition to traditional customer service, Expedia has developed a self-service platform called Expedia Partner Central. This platform allows hotel partners to manage their inventory, rates, and availability, as well as access analytics and reports. This system streamlines the booking process, making it easier for customers to find the right hotel at the right price.
Expedia’s customer service team is known for being responsive and helpful, with a focus on resolving customer issues quickly and efficiently. The company also offers a satisfaction guarantee, promising to work with customers to resolve any issues and make things right.
24-Hour Customer Service
One of the most significant benefits of using Expedia is its 24-hour customer service. This means that no matter what time of day or night it is, customers can get in touch with Expedia’s customer service team for assistance.
24-hour customer service is particularly important for travelers, as issues can arise at any time. Whether it’s a flight delay or a problem with a hotel reservation, having access to 24-hour customer service can help alleviate stress and ensure that issues are resolved quickly.
Expedia’s 24-hour customer service is available via phone, email, or live chat. The company’s phone support is available around the clock, with separate phone numbers for customers located in the United States and Canada, as well as international numbers for customers located in other countries.
Email support is also available 24 hours a day, and customers can expect a response within 24 hours of sending their message. Live chat support is another option for customers who prefer to communicate via chat rather than phone or email. The live chat feature is available on Expedia’s website and mobile app, making it easy for customers to get help on the go.
In addition to traditional customer service channels, Expedia also has a robust help center on its website. This help center includes a variety of articles and guides on topics like booking, cancellations, refunds, and more. Customers can also use the search function to find answers to specific questions or issues they may be experiencing.
One of the potential downsides of Expedia’s 24-hour customer service is that wait times can vary depending on the time of day and the volume of customers seeking assistance. During peak travel times, such as holidays or the summer vacation season, wait times may be longer than usual. However, the company is known for prioritizing urgent issues and working quickly to resolve them.
How to Contact Expedia’s Customer Service
There are several ways to get in touch with Expedia’s customer service team. The easiest and most convenient way is to use the live chat feature on the company’s website or mobile app. This allows customers to get help quickly and easily without having to wait on hold or navigate through a complex phone tree.
Another option is to call Expedia’s customer service hotline. The phone number is available on the company’s website and varies depending on the customer’s location. Customers in the United States and Canada can call 1-800-319-4834, while international customers can find their specific country’s phone number on Expedia’s website.
Email support is also available 24 hours a day, and customers can expect a response within 24 hours of sending their message. To send an email, customers can fill out the contact form on Expedia’s website or send an email directly to [email protected].
Finally, customers can also reach out to Expedia’s customer service team via social media. The company has accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and customers can send direct messages to the accounts to get help or ask questions.
Pros and Cons of Expedia’s Customer Service
Expedia’s customer service has several benefits, including its 24-hour availability, multiple channels of communication, and knowledgeable representatives. The company’s customer service team is known for being responsive and helpful, with a focus on resolving issues quickly and efficiently. Additionally, the help center on Expedia’s website provides a wealth of information and resources for customers to use.
However, there are also some potential downsides to Expedia’s customer service. Wait times can be long during peak travel times, and some customers have reported difficulty in getting their issues resolved. Additionally, while the company’s representatives are knowledgeable, there have been some complaints about their level of empathy and willingness to go above and beyond for customers.
Alternatives to Expedia’s Customer Service
While Expedia’s customer service is generally reliable and efficient, there are some alternatives for customers who prefer a different approach. One option is to book travel directly through the airline or hotel’s website, which often has its own customer service team available for assistance.
Another option is to use a travel agency or booking service that specializes in personalized service and support. These agencies often have dedicated travel advisors who can assist with everything from booking flights to planning itineraries and recommending activities.
Finally, some credit card companies offer travel concierge services as a perk of their premium cards. These services provide personalized assistance with travel booking and planning, including access to dedicated customer service representatives who are available 24/7 to help with any issues or questions.

Expedia offered me $650K job but changed their mind because I'm white
- Expedia told Texas dad Michael Kascsak, 49, he was their 'top pick' for the job
- Then they went for 'diversity' hire Bernita Dillard, a black California woman
- READ MORE: Sidelined Iraq war veteran sues top US bank over diversity push
A white executive has sued Expedia, saying the travel website offered him $650,000 to head a division only to backtrack and give his job to a 'safer' candidate — a black woman.
Michael Kascsak, 49, a married dad-of-one from Austin, Texas , says Expedia gave him the runaround for months before making him America's latest victim of reverse racism.
Expedia told him they had instead selected the 'diversity' candidate Bernita Dillard, who is now the company's San Francisco-based head of talent inclusion, he says.
Kascsak mostly blames Michael Velasco, Expedia's Brooklyn-based diversity chief, saying he stepped in and pushed for a woman candidate with a different skin color.
Gene Hamilton, a lawyer with America First Legal ( AFL ), the action group that on Monday joined the lawsuit, said Kascsak had suffered from discrimination.
Americans should be 'treated equally and judged based on merit — not arbitrarily discriminated against because of their race,' he added.
It's the latest in a series of lawsuits aimed at diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), policies in corporate America.
Advocates of DEI say it helps get more women and minorities into colleges and workplaces, but critics say it ends up hurting straight, white men.
Kascsak's 35-page document was filed at the US District Court in the Western District of Texas.
He says he suffered 'immense harms' and seeks a jury trial, compensation, and his legal costs covered.
The $13 billion-a-year Seattle-based travel and technology firm did not answer DailyMail.com's request for comment.
On its website, Expedia says it is 'dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for everyone race, ethnicity, color, national origin, age, disability' and other characteristics.
According to the suit, Expedia reached out to Kascsak in April 2023 about becoming their global talent boss.
The family breadwinner has 'exceptional qualifications' after working at Bank of America, Capital One, and PayPal, papers show.
After several interviews, Kascsak was told he was the 'front-runner' and their 'top pick,' he says.
In mid-May, he was verbally offered the job — with a $330,000-a-year salary, $225,000 in Expedia stock, and a $100,000 cash signing bonus.
Weeks later, however, Kascsak was told about a 'reorganization' and how Expedia was going in a 'different direction with the role,' the papers show.
In June, Kascsak found out from LinkedIn posts that Expedia was searching for alternatives.
He later learned that the company's DEI tsar Velasco had stepped in to 'preclude' Kascsak from getting the contract.
The firm even arranged for Kascsak to meet Velasco about the job in New York, but Velasco pulled out at the last minute.
Velasco and the company wanted to go in a 'safer direction' and get a more 'diverse' candidate, it is claimed.
Expedia ultimately promoted an internal candidate, Dillard, their director of diversity sourcing.
Dillard's LinkedIn profile shows she also has an impressive resume, with experience at DoorDash, Facebook, and Google.
The lawsuit shows how Expedia has for years pushed hard on diversity hiring targets.
The company was in 2022 aiming for half its workforce to be women, and a quarter to hail from racial minorities.
Its CEO Peter Kern once described 'systemic racism' as a 'plague' for which 'we all must be a part of the solution,' the suit says.
Expedia recruiters even get bonuses for hitting diversity-hiring goals, the papers say.
'Anti-discrimination law exists to ensure the most deserving is hired, like Kascsak here,' says the suit.
'That doesn't always happen, but it does not permit companies like Expedia to illegally rebuke civil rights law by elevating some candidates while harming others based on immutable traits.'
The case is part of a growing number of suits and filings against DEI practices since the US Supreme Court's landmark June 2023 ruling to end affirmative action in college admissions.
AFL, which is led by former President Donald Trump adviser Stephen Miller, has filed more than 15 lawsuits and more than 30 complaints to a US civil rights agency.
Lawsuits have claimed that hiring and recruitment decisions made around both jobs and fellowships at large companies are biased against white workers.
Advocates of DEI schemes say they bring more black, brown, female, and queer talent into offices and colleges and raise morale across the board.
But critics say they're a 'woke' virtue-signaling exercise that fosters backlash discrimination against straight, white men.

Here are the best and worst times to travel for Fourth of July
Whether you're flying or driving, we have intel—plus, what to book last-minute
We’ve waited for it all year, and summer travel is here! People are checking out of work, kids are saying “check you later” to their teachers, and packing up their suitcases. No one’s setting alarms unless if it’s to catch the next train. Expedia reports that things are heating up for fellow travelers on the road and in the air. In fact, the week leading up to the Fourth of July is going to be busy and expensive. Prepare yourself!
Here’s some data to help. Usually, the Friday before July 4 makes for the highest ticket price of the summer. But this year, July 4 falls on a Thursday, which complicates things. Instead, it’s Wednesday the 3rd that’s going to be that wild travel day with a few too many people trying to do the same thing: turn it into an extra long weekend. Besides that, Saturday, June 29 is going to be zoo-ish: try departing on July 1 or 2 instead. And for the return, Sunday, July 7 is the busiest day, so plan for July 5 or 8 instead. And in order to get the best deal for airfare, Expedia recommends booking 21-60 days in advance, which means you will want to book by June 13. That’s…well, it’s tomorrow. Get on it!
If you’re looking to find a deal for your flight, the best deals for that long weekend (departing July 3 and returning July 7) are here, based on data collection on June 5. Prices may have changed, so check before booking:
Los Angeles to Austin, TX: $253 (25 percent lower than usual)
JFK to Miami: $307 (25 percent lower than usual)
Seattle to San Diego: $286 (30 percent lower than usual)
Chicago to Palm Beach: $258 (50 percent lower than usual)
Orlando to Newark: $192 (50 percent lower than usual)
Right now, for the timeframe June 29 to July 7, Expedia shows that the most popular flight destinations here in the U.S. are New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Orlando. The most domestic lodging searches (which you might think would match but don’t) are for Dallas and New Orleans. If you like being in the trending spots, that’s where to go. Or alternately, maybe you would actively avoid these busy cities.
A few final tips we hope will help: First, book a morning flight. It’s 50 percent less likely to be canceled than a flight that departs after 3pm. Get to the airport earlier than you think you need to: you might have to troll the parking lot to find a space for your car given the hordes of other people trying also to park, plus you’ll need more time to get through security. TSA recommends getting there two hours ahead of time for a domestic flight. If you can get away with minimal packing, avoid checking a bag and keep everything in your carry-on. You won’t have to go through that check-in line and can go straight through security so long as you have your boarding pass, and then on to your gate.
If you’re driving for the holiday as opposed to flying, start your trip on Wednesday morning and try not to drive on Sunday, July 7. Good luck, everyone, and be safe!
Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.

Is there really a “best” day to book a flight?
There’s long been a myth that Tuesdays are the day to book airfare if you want the lowest price and that prices surge on weekends — but that’s not necessarily true, according to experts.
Google published an analysis in 2022 found that when shopping for flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays rather than Saturdays or Sundays, prices are only 1.9% cheaper on average. A Google Flights spokesperson told USA TODAY that this holds true as of June 2024.
According to both Hopper and Google Flights, there’s no point in waiting for any specific day to book a flight since the difference in cost is only marginal.
“We tested this out and looked at the best day of the week to book for a number of popular trips and Tuesday was the cheapest day just 1% of the time,” Hayley Berg, Hopper’s lead economist, told USA TODAY. “The best price might be available on Tuesday – but it might be available on another day of the week.”
Meanwhile, Expedia’s 2024 Air Travel Hacks report published in September 2023 had a surprisingly different take: “Sunday remains the cheapest day of the week to book flights, while Fridays are most expensive. On average, travelers saved up to 13%.”
According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), flights from major airports in the U.S. cost 29% more on average this year than they did in 2021, so any savings on airfare could make a huge difference.
And there are plenty of other factors other than the day of the week you book your flight that impact the price point more.
“While everyone wants a golden rule for the best day of the week to book a flight – the reality is that the best day, and time, to book a flight depends on a number of factors,” Berg shared.
One of Berg’s top tips is to book in advance and don’t wait until the last minute.
Using tools such as Hopper or Capital One Travel can help people monitor flight prices in an easy and effective way. Berg recommends trying to book domestic flights one to three months prior to the departure date, and international flights between four and five months before departure.
“Don’t leave booking too late; prices can increase by hundreds in the final weeks before departure,” she said.
Expedia’s report reflected similar findings, noting that those who purchase airfare for domestic flights 28 days in advance pay on average 24% less than last-minute bookings.
However, the day you fly out is more important than the day you book your flight.
Choosing a flight that departs in the middle of the week rather than the weekend can help travelers get cheap airfare — saving people on average 18% on domestic summer airfare, Hopper found.
Mid-week savings are even more for international fare, with people deciding to fly to Europe this summer on a Tuesday or Wednesday saving $435 per ticket, according to Hopper.
Google Flights found similar data, with flights departing on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday being on average 12% cheaper than flights on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
So book your flights whenever you want, but you might want to opt for a mid-week departure.
