What can be said about Eminem that hasn’t already been said? The most successful rapper of all time has sold nearly a quarter of a billion albums and changed the world of music and pop culture forever.

From his less-than-humble beginnings to the pinnacle of notoriety and superstardom, Marshall Mathers has truly seen it all.

Born in 1972 to his mother Debbie and father Bruce, Mathers’ family broke apart soon after forming. His father abandoned his wife and infant son and moved to California. Mathers and his mother moved between Detroit and Missouri, typically changing homes every year or so and living with family members. When he was a teenager, Mathers wrote letters to his father that all came back with “return to sender” marked on them.

For most of Mathers’ youth, he and his mother lived in a poor neighborhood in Detroit, and he was often targeted for bullying. But he had a creative outlet: He loved storytelling. He first dreamt of becoming a comic book artist, but then he discovered rap. The first rap song he ever heard was “Reckless” featuring Ice-T, given to him by his mother’s half-brother Ronnie. Ronnie played a positive role in Mathers’ childhood, mentoring him and giving him emotional support.

Marshall repeated ninth grade three times before dropping out of Lincoln High School at age 17. He had already begun rapping by this time and frequently snuck into the neighboring high school with his friend to compete in freestyle rap battles during lunch. Weekends saw them performing at open mics on West 7 Mile Road, the epicenter of Detroit’s underground rap scene. He spent much of his free time working on rhymes for different words in the English language.

Meanwhile, Mathers fought constantly with his mother, who was described as having a “very suspicious, almost paranoid personality” by a social worker. In 1987, Debbie invited runaway Kim Scott into their home. Marshall and Kim began a tumultuous relationship several years later. By 1988, he had adopted the stage name MC Double M and was recording demo tapes and appearing in music videos. Mathers’ uncle Ronnie committed suicide in 1991, a traumatic experience that caused Mathers to stop speaking for several days.

He formed The Dirty Dozen, also known as D12, in 1996 — the same year he released his debut album, Infinite, which was a commercial failure. DJs who rejected his tracks asked him why he didn’t just go into rock and roll, which fueled him to craft darker, angrier tracks. He and Kim lived in a dangerous neighborhood and were robbed multiple times, and Marshall was working for minimum wage washing dishes. Before Christmas of that year, he had been fired and attempted suicide.

In 1997, Mathers developed an alter ego called Slim Shady and recorded the Slim Shady EP, released by Web Entertainment. The EP attracted some attention, even getting mentioned by hip-hop magazine The Source in 1998.

After placing second in a nationwide rap battle in Los Angeles, Mathers’ EP got noticed by Dr. Dre. The two began working on The Slim Shady LP, which was released in February 1999. It went triple platinum by the end of the year. The album’s violent lyrics were an outlet for Eminem’s anger and frustration, and they struck a strange chord with the public.

The next decade was all his. His second full-length album, The Marshall Mathers LP, came out in May 2000 and sold nearly 2 million copies before the end of its first week. Mathers toured that year with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube. In 2001, he was the only guest on Jay-Z’s album, The Blueprint.

In May 2002, Eminem released The Eminem Show, the best-selling album of the year with 27 million copies sold worldwide. Encore followed in 2004, showcasing more of his political commentary. His subsequent albums include Relapse, Recovery, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, and, of course, the soundtrack to the semi-autobiographical blockbuster film 8 Mile.

Eminem’s career was relatively quiet in the late 2010s, until the earth-shaking moment he criticized then-President Trump in the 2017 freestyle “The Storm.” This represented a comeback moment for Eminem — his support for Black Americans resonated at a time when social unrest and inequality were becoming highly talked about.

Live reviews

“EMINEM.” Seeing his name lit across the stage was mind blowing. As if natural instinct, everyone started chanting, ‘EM-IN-EM, EM-IN-EM’, until the legend himself took the stage, wearing a get up that only the King of Rap could pull off.

Without a breathe of a moment, he jumps directly in to rapping, setting the crowd on fire as most of us have been waiting in the stadium for hours, and some of us have been waiting for years. As far back as we can remember, Eminem was there, withstanding the wrath of time and still being able to top the charts many, many years later.

The audience was as real as he is, old, young (too young), male, female and people of all colours were there. I could see it in their eyes, as they threw their hands to the beat and mouthed every word along with him, that at this moment, this is all they have ever wanted. When songs like “Lose Yourself”, “Stan”, “Not Afraid” and a few others were sung, tears flowed freely, because like every other person, those songs were a part of various struggles and difficulties you or someone you are close to have faced. That’s not to say the concert is a downer, no, not at all. Once you’ve wiped your tears away, “Without Me”, “The Real Slim Shady”, “Rap God” and more is performed, to get your body moving, dancing, jumping, flashing, whatever you are in to. Aside from the upbeat tracks, his stage presence is something else, he manages to be filthy and charming all at the same time.

And by the end of the show, you’re speechless. Firstly, because you’re in shock due to the fact that you have never experienced a level of such greatness, and secondly, because your voice is gone as rapping alongside the one and only Eminem, is not as easy as he makes it look.

Eminem in concert in LA was enough to make me extraordinarily happy, but for him to perform some hits from the Recovery album made the entire night absolutely worth it!! It was nostalgic for him to perform his old hits, taking me back to elementary and junior high school days, but Recovery was the album that solidified my love and appreciation for his artistry, talent and heart!

Em's portion of the show was absolutely fantastic, he is truly a lyrical genius and he never fails to deliever with an energy and intensity that is infectious! I would have been more than happy (and actually would have preferred) if the show was just his performance, but I can fully understand why he would need someone to fill some time to give him a break between his sets. When he performs it feels like he is literally pouring his heart and soul out on the stage and that has to be beyond exhausting for him, hence the need for Rihanna. Her part was ok. The venue (the Rose Bowl) was an experience in itself. Parking wasn't as bad as I was anticipating, but it was very expensive. The arena was packed solid, but I never felt too overwhelmed by people even though I was on the floor. It was just great to be surrounded by people who were enjoying the concert. If you ever have a chance to see Em in concert, I would say, GO!

I have been a huge Eminem fan since he came out with Cleaning Out My Closet, I was very very young at the time so I've been a fan since I was a little kid. I was very much looking forward to my first Eminem concert, and on 8/16 at MetLife Stadium, my dream finally came true. The website said they would start at 7:30, but they didn't start until like 8:40, but the whole concert made up for it. Eminem was amazing, I honestly have no words to describe the experience except that it was very unreal and I had to pinch myself a few times just to make sure this was really happening to me. He played a lot of his songs off his first two albums and then some songs off of Recovery & MMLP2. For anyone who had seats or had Floor B GA, you really missed out on an amazing view & concert. The view from the 200s & 300s probably sucked, they could only probably see Eminem & Rihanna from the jumbo screens. Rihanna was great too, she was very sweet & funny live, as well as sexy & seductive. Eminem was funny and his stage presence was wonderful. This was an experience I'd LOVE to have again, an experience many should get to enjoy and from the amazing view in GA. I do hope he goes on tour again in the next year or so.

Fucking amazing!! Man’s music has saved my life so many times! A real artist and an incredible lyricist... unbaleaveablw how much talent Marshal has. Tears dropped as he sung songs that touched my heart and took me back from the grave... I love him for all he has done for me an my recovery... if only I was able to thank him in person... In rehab they say to believe in power that’s greater than me, as my god. Eminem is that god to me. A powerful man that I know has saved so many lives just from his music. The show was the best show I’ve ever attended. Only issue was I wasn’t quick enough to get a ticket I the pit. I would have rocked up at 6am before the concert just to get into the front row and thank the ma. For everything he has done for my life..

But I don’t think I’ll ever get the chance to thanks him and praise Marshal. But I doubt I’ll

Ever get the chance to express the abundance of help, love and strength I receive when ever I lisfen laying down to his tracks!!! An I doubt he’ll ever truely know how many llivws he has saves and touched!!! 100/10 for the show!!! Bring him back pleaseeee!!!

Where do I start, right let’s try.... I’ve been lucky enough to see Eminem 3 Times now, first time was v festival where he was absolutely superb and stole the show. Second was at Wembley, where yet again he smashed it, and too bring out dre was unbelievable and the crowd went insane, personally thought, u are not topping that.... but now to twickenham, where I didn’t think he could possibly get any better or fulfill his thousands and thousands of fans, but how stupid was I haha, not only delivers the best show/concert I’ve ever been to and seen but upped the anti and performs the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a few acts, not to finish there, but brings out not just 50 cent but ed sheeran also and the crowd just goes insane and lifted the roof off....

By far the best performer/performance I’ve been luckily enough to witness

I FINALLY got to see Eminem live after being a fan since day one. What can I say that will do the performance justice? He was AMAZING! Everything that I ever imagined in my mind an Eminem concert would be, well it was 10 times better than that. He was on point with his flow, the sound was awesome, the stage design was great too but honestly I didn't even pay that much attention to that because I was focusing on him the entire time. It was a long time coming for me to see him live and man did he exceed my expectations. Few shows have ever hit that top mark for me and wow he did it. There really are no words that I can say that will give him the credit he deserves for being an amazing artist and performer. All I can say is if you get a chance to watch him, DO IT! You will not be disappointed. I can't wait to be able to watch him again!

Marshal a.k..a Eminem, you are the best music star ever! I listen to your music everyday becuase I love how you put your anger and pain into the words of your songs, "I'm Sorry Mama, I never meant to hurt you, I never meant to make you cry" is one of the best emotional phrases you have used even though you think you have hurt them they will always love you and make sure you are safe. I will always buy your albums when they are released and even try and come to one of your concerts, hopefully meaning I get to meet you and ask for a picture with you and ask you nicely to sign my albums and posters I have. You are my favourite singer of all time. I am your biggest fan ever!

From Curtis

P.S. You are the best, hopefully I get to meet you and that would be the best day of my life I would never forget it and never forget you!

Eminem is epic. Eminem live is mind blowing! Live he performs a great variety of songs from all of his albums, mixing in some of his old stuff which brings feelings of nostalgia with his newer stuff which sounds great. He has got to be one of the best rappers of all time and the fact that he writes all his lyrics himself gives the songs depth and meaning. He's a lyrical genius! Watching him live is a roller coaster of emotions from jumping up and down and going wild to swaying your hands in the air with a sing-a-long. Even though Wembley held thousands he still performed like it was to each and every one of you, interacting with the crowd and showing off his great sense of humor. Eminem is amazing and I would highly recommend seeing him live, there's no feeling like it.

Eminem Loses the Magic, and 10 More New Songs

Hear tracks by Clairo, Nathy Peluso, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and others.

A man dressed in all black with his hood up raps into a microphone onstage as fiery video images run behind him.

By Jon Pareles and Lindsay Zoladz

Every Friday, pop critics for The New York Times weigh in on the week’s most notable new tracks. Listen to the Playlist on Spotify here (or find our profile: nytimes) and at Apple Music here , and sign up for The Amplifier , a twice-weekly guide to new and old songs.

Eminem, ‘ Houdini ’

Eminem attempts to recapture past glories on his exhausting new song “Houdini,” the first single from his upcoming 12th album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” Atop a garish, carnivalesque beat that interpolates a sample of the Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra,” the M.C.’s crass alter ego Slim Shady surveys the current cultural moment and strings together some stiltedly rapped jokes, desperate to offend at every turn. Oldest trick in the book. LINDSAY ZOLADZ

Twenty One Pilots, ‘ Navigating ’

“Clancy,” the new album by the two-man band Twenty One Pilots , is the fourth installment in a series of concept albums. But “Navigating” doesn’t necessarily need a back story. It’s a psychological crisis, as Tyler Joseph sings about feeling dazed and disassociated, unable to speak but desperate for connection: “Pardon my delay — I’m navigating my head” is his closest explanation. The track is a buzzing, galloping, pumping merger of punk-pop and electro, opening with an arena-sized “Hey-oh” chant and trying to get through the crisis on sheer momentum. JON PARELES

Girl Scout, ‘ I Just Needed You to Know ’

Emma Jansson, Girl Scout’s singer and guitarist, fights back against the useless complacency of the familiar phrase “It is what it is.” A hopping guitar riff grows into a motoric drone and a hurtling, layered, full-band assault as she seethes and then wails, “I don’t know what it is/I wanna make it better,” going on to demand, “Is that too much to ask?” PARELES

Clairo, ‘ Sexy to Someone ’

The alt-pop star Clairo yearns to be the object of just one person’s affection — “nothing more, nothing less,” she sings — on the pensive but bouncy lead single from her forthcoming album “Charm,” out July 12. Breezier and more upbeat than her brooding sophomore effort, “Sling,” “Sexy to Someone” pairs Clairo’s breathily muttered vocals with a persistent groove, resulting in a kind of strutting summer anthem for introverts. ZOLADZ

Shaboozey featuring Noah Cyrus, ‘ My Fault ’

“Feeling low, getting high, where did everything go wrong?” Shaboozey sings with Noah Cyrus. “My Fault” is a minor-key country duet set to fingerpicked guitars, recognizing the grip of additions. They sing together even as, paradoxically, they make an irreparable separation. PARELES

Ayra Starr featuring Giveon, ‘ Last Heartbreak Song ’

The Beninese songwriter Ayra Starr delivers a clear ultimatum in “Last Heartbreak Song” from her new album, “The Year I Turned 21.” Over echoey chords and a subdued Afrobeats rhythm, Starr tells her partner, “You don’t have to pretend about it ’cause it’s crystal clear now,” and decides, “I’ll be gone by the sunrise.” That spurs Giveon to apologize and promise, “I’ll be here for a lifetime” in his best croon. She’s unconvinced. “I’ll be better on my own,” she announces, and in the end he sings it with her. PARELES

Nathy Peluso, ‘ La Presa ’

“La Presa” (“The Prisoner”) is an outlier on “Grasa” (“Vulgar”), the new album by the Argentine songwriter Nathy Peluso . Amid electronics-driven songs that celebrate her ambition and push back on haters, “La Presa” is a hard-charging, horn-driven salsa track. Peluso plays a woman accused of murder, telling the police that her man died because “I denied him my kisses”; she’d rather be behind bars than with him. “When love does not give you freedom, it is a prison,” she declares. PARELES

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, ‘ Frogs ’

Nick Cave has reconvened the Bad Seeds for a new album due in August, “Wild God.” The band is no longer its old noisy and assaultive self in “Frogs” — it’s stately and disembodied, surrounding Cave’s voice with processional drums, sustained orchestral tones, backup-choir vocals and a twinkling, glockenspiel-like loop. Cave brings David Bowie-style drama to lyrics that teeter between non sequiturs and glimmers of revelation: “Leaping to God, amazed of love and amazed of pain,” he sings. PARELES

Bat for Lashes, ‘ The Dream of Delphi (Extended Strings Version) ’

Natasha Khan, who records as Bat for Lashes, was a new mother when she made her latest album, “The Dream of Delphi.” Its finale, an extended reprise of its title track, is a meditation that seeks and summons hope: “Breathing a new transmission, falling from the sky/Deeper my love is soaring, soaring so very high,” Khan sings in a weightless soprano. A rising modal scale circles throughout the track, drawing in orchestral strings and swirls of harp, contemplating possibilities. PARELES

Blick Bassy and Ry X, ‘ Mbondi ’

Blick Bassy sings in Bassa, one of the local languages in his native Cameroon. But he’s far from provincial; he’s also drawn to the electronic experiments and the intricately layered sounds of musicians like Bon Iver. “Mbondi” is a recent addition to his 2023 album “Mádibá,” now renamed “Mádibá Ni Mbondi.” It’s a collaboration with the Australian songwriter Ry X, whose gentle, smoky voice is close to Bassy’s own. The track is both folky and futuristic, juxtaposing acoustic guitar, orchestral richness and surreal vocal harmonies. Bassy’s lyrics celebrate the way water brings life; then Ry X switches it to an English-language love song, moving from fond memories to loneliness and need. PARELES

Hermeto Pascoal, ‘ Conversação ’

For decades Hermeto Pascoal, now 87, has been one of Brazil’s most puckishly ingenious composers, melding Brazilian rhythms with the musicianly gamesmanship of jazz. “Conversação” (“Conversation”) is from his new album, “Para Você, Ilza” (“For You, Ilza”), recorded this year with a Brazilian quintet; pays tribute to his wife, Ilza da Silva, who died in 2000. “Conversação” is a breezy, asymmetrical, meter-shifting tune that keeps zigzagging in unexpected directions. A midsection of dissonant three-note jabs makes the melody sound even more congenial when it returns. PARELES.

Jon Pareles has been The Times’s chief pop music critic since 1988. He studied music, played in rock, jazz and classical groups and was a college-radio disc jockey. He was previously an editor at Rolling Stone and the Village Voice. More about Jon Pareles

Pete Davidson, Snoop Dogg and Shane Gillis Pop Up in Eminem's "Houdini" Video

Slim Shady is back, back again — and Pete Davidson is his taxi driver.

eminem world tour new york

Guess who's back? Back again.

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live  Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on  NBC and next day on  Peacock .

Eminem, born as Marshall Mathers, has released the video for "Houdini," the first single off of his upcoming  The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) album. The music video for the new single is packed with celebrity cameos, including Snoop Dogg ,  Pete Davidson , and February 24  Saturday Night Live Host  Shane Gillis .

"Houdini," which samples the Steve Miller Band’s 1982 hit “Abracadabra," is a callback to Eminem's classic 2002 video for “Without Me.” It even opens with the same lyrics: “Guess who’s back, back again/Shady’s back, tell a friend," which should activate any millennial like a sleeper cell agent upon first listen.

The video features 2002 bleach-blond Slim Shady stepping through a portal to 2024. Young Slim Shady walks around the city, appalled by the state of modern tech gadgets like selfie sticks and VR headsets.

This is the rapper's first release since 2020's  Music to Be Murdered By .

Dr. Dre, who first signed the rapper in 1998 and was featured in the original " Without Me " video, calls 2024 Eminem, telling him, "We've got a problem, check this out. Get your ass down here."

The video flashes comic book panels featuring some famous faces like 50 Cent and The Voice Coach Snoop Dogg as they sing along to the catchy chorus: "Guess who's back?"

A four split of Shane Gillis Pete Davidson Snoop Dogg Eminem

Eminem knows this is a job for superhero alter-ego Rapboy, and he slips on some spandex and reunites with Dr. Dre. The two cruise around the city in search of Slim Shady, who continues to be unimpressed with the modern state of the world, even interrupting a recording of a podcast with Shane Gillis, trashing the studio out of annoyance.

Rapboy and the 2002 Slim Shady finally confront one another for an epic fight on a rooftop, but after throwing some punches, the two merge and create "some kind of unholy hybrid" as they are now one. The present day Eminem emerges from the battle with bleach blond hair — as the video shows the dye job spreading to other citizens of the city.

Eminem and Pete Davidson reunite the "Houdini" music video

Eminem returns to join Dre in their car, but the "Let Me Ride" rapper eventually exits the vehicle after Eminem starts rapping insults at Dre, former record exec and Beats Electronics CEO James Iovine, and even his own kids.

Eminem is momentarily left without a driver, until one last celebrity makes a cameo: Pete Davidson, blond, like the other Slim Shady clones.

"Trust me, I'm a great driver. Don't worry, I just got my license back," says Davidson as he hops behind the wheel. The video ends with Eminem and Davidson driving and careening into cars as they disappear down the dark city streets.

By Katie Houlis

Updated on: May 30, 2024 / 1:20 PM EDT / CBS New York

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- The Cricket World Cup is coming to Long Island starting this weekend , and some tickets are still available.

Eight Men's T20 World Cup matches, plus one warm-up match, will be played at the new 34,000-seat  International Cricket Stadium in Eisenhower Park , which was constructed in just three months .

This is the first time the Cricket World Cup is being played in the United States.

Officials announced tighter security for the Cricket World Cup due to an online threat, even though it was determined to not be credible .

Where to buy tickets for Men's T20 World Cup matches on Long Island

Tickets are available online through the ICC Men's T20 World Cup official website for all eight matches and Saturday's warm-up match.

Prices vary depending on the match, starting as low as $60 for Canada vs. Ireland and soaring up to $10,000 for Diamond Club seats to the India vs. Pakistan match on June 9.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman says some tickets were set aside for local community groups and cricket teams .

Schedule of Cricket World Cup matches on Long Island

All matches are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.

  • June 1: India vs. Bangladesh (warm-up match)
  • June 3:  Sri Lanka vs. South Africa
  • June 5:  India vs. Ireland
  • June 7:  Canada vs. Ireland
  • June 8:  Netherlands vs. South Africa
  • June 9:  India vs. Pakistan
  • June 10:  South Africa vs. Bangladesh
  • June 11:  Pakistan vs. Canada
  • June 12:  USA vs. India

Security plans in place for Cricket World Cup matches

Nassau County officials outlined their security plans for the Cricket World Cup on Wednesday .

Spectators will have to go through metal detectors to enter the stadium grounds, and no bags will be allowed inside.

Eisenhower Park will be closed before and during the matches, from 6:30 a.m. to about 6 p.m. The area will be reopened once all fans have left the stadium after the match.

There will be a large police presence on the ground and in the air. Drones will not be allowed over the stadium.

"This will be one of the tightest securities that Nassau County has ever seen. You will not get in this venue without the proper credentialing, ticketing or parking access that you have. Otherwise, you will be turned around," Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said.

ICYMI: J.Lo's cancelled tour, Thom Yorke is coming to Australia and what really went down on The Apprentice

J.Lo points to the crowd as she sings with wind blowing her hair back from her face, wearing a bedazzled sheer outfit.

It's that time again!

Here's what you may have missed in entertainment news over the weekend.

  • J.Lo cancelled her entire tour to 'spend time with family'???
  • An ex-Apprentice producer did a tell-all on his time working with Trump
  • Thom Yorke is coming to Australia and this is the Eras Tour for Radiohead fans
  • Steve Miller is very happy Eminem interpolated Abracadabra in Houdini
  • Adele had a go at an audience member she thought yelled "Pride sucks"

J.Lo says This Is Me…Never, cancels US arena tour

Jennifer Lopez is having a nightmare of a year. First, she was forced to spend $US20 million ($30 million) of her own cash to make her quasi-autobiographical film that critics rushed to call " bonkers " and a " bizzaro trainwreck ", then everyone made fun of her suspiciously vague bodega order (ham and cheese on a roll, orange drink — IYKYK — and a small bag of chips), and now she's had to go and cancel her entire US arena tour!

The This Is Me…Live tour was slated for 30 dates, hitting massive arenas all around the US — but now they are no more.

The first signs of struggle appeared in April, when seven dates were quietly cancelled amid reports of struggling ticket sales. The tour was also rebranded from "This Is Me… Now" to "This Is Me… Live | The Greatest Hits" in an apparent attempt to broaden its appeal.

But despite the reports of lacklustre sales, team J.Lo told fans the cancellation was due to the star wanting to slow down a little.

"Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends," representatives told fans in an official newsletter.

The statement also included a short message from Lopez herself.

"I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn't do this if I didn't feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time…" she said.

But Jenny from the Block isn't the only established artist struggling to fill arenas. Indie stalwarts The Black Keys announced last week that they were cancelling their September US arena tour, promising to reschedule dates for a more "intimate experience for both fans and the band".

And fans of Wallows the pop-rock trio — fronted by 13 Reasons Why actor Dylan Minnette — are stressing out on social media that their faves will be doomed to the same fate, citing lots of cheap tickets still for sale.

Even the powerhouse team-up of Troye Sivan and Charli XCX doesn't seem to be enough to convince American audiences to head down to the arena.

Former Apprentice producer dishes on time with Trump as NDA expires

Donald Trump was already a household name when he ran for US president in 2016, and the reality TV show The Apprentice had a lot to do with that.

The show — which sees people compete for the chance to get a one-year starting contract to promote one of Trump's properties — ran for 15 seasons from 2004, with the man himself hosting 14 of them.

But a former producer on "the show that changed everything" has written a tell-all essay about what really went down behind the scenes of the show, now that his 20-year non-disclosure agreement has expired .

In the essay, Bill Pruitt writes that The Apprentice "elevated Donald J. Trump from sleazy New York tabloid hustler to respectable household name". While he was shown to demonstrate "impeccable business instincts and unparalleled wealth" on the program, in reality Pruitt says Trump had "barely survived multiple bankruptcies", his ramblings were carefully edited and he made comments that were "misogynistic as well as racist", most of which were caught on camera but not aired.

"By carefully misleading viewers about Trump — his wealth, his stature, his character, and his intent — the competition reality show set about an American fraud that would balloon beyond its creators' wildest imaginations," Pruitt writes.

Pruitt says when deciding between two finalists – Kwame Jackson and Bill Rancic – Trump said in a recorded conversation: "I mean, would America buy a n***** winning?" in reference to Jackson. Rancic won that season of the competition.

ABC News has contacted Trump's team for a response and is yet to hear back, but a spokesman for Trump's 2024 campaign issued this statement to Slate, which was published in the essay: "This is a completely fabricated and bullshit story that was already peddled in 2016."

In an MSNBC interview with the Reverend Al Sharpton, Jackson says the comments are "water off a duck's back" given Trump didn't make them to his face, which he says would have played out very differently.

But Jackson goes on to say the comments would have potentially swung the election had they come out in 2016, and therefore Pruitt is "a day late and a dollar short".

He told Rev Sharpton: "Trump has made it OK to be racist in America."

Thom Yorke is coming to Australia for the first time in 12 years

A musician who needs little introduction, Thom Yorke is best known as the creative, angel-voiced force out front of Radiohead — one of the most culturally significant and critically acclaimed bands of their generation. But he's never done a solo tour to Australia before, until now.

Yorke has announced a solo Australian tour, playing two dates each at Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl and the Sydney Opera House Forecourt through October and November. Find dates and ticket details here.

"I will be alone on stage trying a new kind of solo show thing, playing versions of songs from my recent and not so recent past," Yorke said in a statement.

It's his first show on our shores of any kind since Radiohead toured back in 2012.

This is welcome, if surprising, news for fans, given they were anticipating a visit from The Smile – Yorke's new band alongside Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, and drummer Tom Skinner.

What's in store? Expect Yorke to re-imagine material from Radiohead and The Smile, as well as his various solo and soundtrack projects — ranging from 2006 album The Eraser through to Confidenza, the score to the 2024 Italian drama of the same name.

Here's a possible taster: Yorke performing Radiohead track Bloom, the opening track from 2011's The King of Limbs, in solo piano mode.

Eminem's 'new' era gets kudos from a classic rock icon

Eminem has a new song out called 'Houdini', and there are a couple of striking things about it.

First, it's an unapologetic throwback to the rapper's big, early hits. It sounds like an updated version of his 2002 smart-arse anthem 'Without Me', and the video – which features guest spots from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Pete Davidson and Shane Gillis – also directly references that hit.

Second, its chorus is an interpolation of the Steve Miller Band's 1982 classic rock anthem 'Abracadabra'. And that song's writer couldn't be happier.

In a letter posted to Facebook over the weekend , Steve Miller gushed about Eminem's artistry and respect for those who came before him.

"You are one of those timeless originators building something new on a long musical legacy of original artists," Miller wrote.

"There aren't many artists who take the time or make the effort to stand up for themselves and credit and respect their influencers at the same time. Marshall Mathers you are an exception and on my short list of people who respect the art. To be included in your process feels good while I'm still singing and playing the music I love."

Without being too cynical, we reckon the esteemed Mr Miller might also be very much looking forward to his next royalty cheque.

Adele claps back at heckler, Katy Perry takes on Butker's speech

Adele caused a bit of a social media stir over the weekend.

On Saturday night, the first night of Pride Month in the US, an audience member at an Adele show in Las Vegas reportedly decided they needed to tell the singer their feelings about the longstanding celebration of LGBTQIA+ pride. It didn't go well.

In a fan-posted Instagram clip, Adele is seen barking back at an audience member who apparently yelled out "Pride sucks" while the singer was addressing the crowd at a show as part of her Las Vegas residency.

"Did you come to my f***ing show and just say 'Pride sucks'?" the singer snarls. "Are you f****ing stupid? Don't be so f***ing ridiculous. If you've got nothing nice to say, shut up, all right?"

Social media has applauded Adele's ferocious rebuke, with countless comments praising her allyship.

However, other videos and accounts from the night suggest the heckler actually yelled out "Work sucks", which seems a lot more on brand for an Adele audience and makes sense considering what Adele was talking about.

At least it's good to know she's willing to fight back against homophobia, even if this was a misunderstanding. And seeing Adele swear her head off is always entertaining.

In related news, fellow pop star Katy Perry celebrated the start of Pride Month by posting a doctored version of NFL player Harrison Butker's infamous commencement speech from last month.

"Fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays," Perry wrote on Instagram. "You can do anything, congratulations and happy pride."

The edit of the video makes Butker's message pretty different to the divisive comments he offered around LGBTQIA+ movements and women in the workforce when addressing the Benedictine College graduating class.

"I would venture to guess the women here today are going to lead successful careers in the world," he now says.

"I say all of this to you because I have seen it firsthand: how much happier someone can be supporting women, and not saying that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."

Before that, the 70-year-old will make her way up and down California, playing the Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl in San Diego on Nov. 20, the brand new Intuit Dome in Inglewood on Nov. 23, the Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert on Nov. 24 and the Chase Center in San Francisco on Nov. 26.

Tickets will be available this week, starting with an artist presale beginning Tuesday.

The general ticket sale begins Friday, according to concert giant and tour promoter Live Nation . Special guests joining Lauper on tour will be announced at a later date. The singer also will be hitting the festival circuit this summer with appearances at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Glastonbury Festival also in the U.K. and Rock in Rio in Brazil before embarking on her tour.

The Brooklyn-born pop icon, the first woman in history to have four top-five singles from a debut album, reached the pinnacle of pop music in the 1980s with her spirited anthem “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” off her first album, “She’s So Unusual,” which helped her earn a best new artist Grammy Award.

The “True Colors” singer’s tour announcement landed the day before her documentary, “Let the Canary Sing,” begins streaming on Paramount+. The feature-length film, which premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival , was directed by Emmy Award winner Alison Ellwood and explores the singer’s life and career.

“Over the years I’ve been asked to do a documentary about my life and work, but it never felt like the right time,” Lauper said last month . “Until now. When I first met Alison Ellwood, I knew right away I could trust her to tell my story honestly, which was incredibly important to me, and she succeeded in that.”

To celebrate the tour and film, Lauper will be honored Tuesday with an imprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, where a private screening of the film and Q&A will follow that evening.

Over the weekend, the Emmy and Tony Award-winning artist joined West Hollywood’s annual Pride Parade as the celebration’s Lifetime Ally Icon honoree. The award recognized Lauper for her years of advocacy on behalf of LGBTQ+ rights, social justice and women’s issues.
