The Oldest Wildlife Park In Texas.
Texas Safari is full of history. It has been in operation since 1975, making it the oldest wildlife park in Texas. The original log cabin, in which the original settlers lived in and fought Comanche Indians out of, was built in 1850 and is still on the property. 2 barns built in 1870 are also located on the land. Today, the facility is run by 6th and 7th generation Texans.
The park sits on the historic Chisholm Trail, which was originally used by Indian hunting parties and later became one of the largest trails for Texas cattle drives.
Texas Safari is known for unforgettable parties, family reunions, and weddings, as well as corporate and private events. Whether it be the picturesque Western Town, or the wildlife roaming before your very eyes, your guests are sure to be amazed!

Interact With Over 600 Exotic Animals.
Texas Safari is home to over 600 exotics, from antelope to zebra. We have many Pere David deer from China that are extinct in the wild but exist on facilities like ours due to world-class breeding programs. The Dama Gazelle, Scimitar Oryx, Lechwe, and the Grevy's Zebra are on the endangered list.
As a breeding facility, we strive to expand the population of endangered animals. Our mission is to maintain the wellbeing of each and every animal in our care. All proceeds from our cabin rentals go towards feed and veterinary care.
You can drive around the park to freely interact with the animals. There are 10 miles of paved roads for your use. Please note that while our animals are friendly, they are still wild so treat them as such.

Welcome to the Exotic Resort Zoo & Safari Cabins!
Where things are always wild & there is fun for all ages we are open 362 days of the year from 9am to 6pm; last tour leaves no later than 4:30pm. johnson city is playing center stage for a total solar eclipse on monday, april 8th, 2023 for that day only , we are requiring our visitors to purchase a parking pass along with tickets through our website. we have a limited number of parking and we are expecting a massive influx of visitors, so don’t wait to reserve your spot the only days we close are easter sunday, thanksgiving and christmas day. additionally, our hours remain the same year ‘round, our park is home to 700+ animals representing 45+ species. with a few tour options, you are sure to create fun memories for a lifetime while learning about our conservation and preservation efforts, no dogs are allowed at the exotic resort zoo.
Our animals see ALL dogs as their natural predator, so this also includes service animals! The United States Department of Justice says: “At a zoo, service animals can be restricted from areas where the animals on display are the natural prey or natural predators of dogs, where the presence of a dog would be disruptive, causing the displayed animals to behave aggressively or become agitated.” Because of the nature of our park, our animals are on display from the moment you enter our gates. A dog of any form would cause distress to our animals, creating a dangerous environment for them and for you. You may read more about the restrictions of Service Animals at a zoo by clicking here .

Guided safari tours, drive-thru safari, safari cabin rentals .
For your visit, we offer one-of-a-kind Guided Tours (tractor ride) through the park. Typically, the longest wait is around 30-45 minutes, however this is subject to change depending on availability and the rate of visitors in attendance that day. In our opinion, the Guided Tour is definitely worth the wait for a more unique experience!
Heads up: It’s Summer Camp Season! We have wonderful groups of children in attendance in the mornings of almost every weekday. You are welcome to jump aboard the Guided Tour with the kids for a wild experience or opt to wait for another ride.
You can also tour the park in your own vehicle! If you are interested in the Drive-Thru (your vehicle) option, you must buy tickets online to reserve a spot with no exceptions. Once we sell out of drive-thru tickets, you are not guaranteed entry.
Texas summer is among us, so keep the weather in mind. We definitely encourage morning visits for your well-being and for the most animal action, but we are here all day! See you soon!

In small-town Central Texas, Buena Vista Wildlife Safari opened in 2018 as a natural, uncaged sanctuary for wild animals to roam. Next door, they also have a fenced RV park and cozy furnished cabins with beautiful countryside views.

Their RV park has 35 big-rig friendly sites including pull-thrus and back-ins. Every site has full hookups, concrete pads, and access to their picnic tables, charcoal grills, and fire pits.
They also have a clubhouse with a full kitchen and pool table, and centrally located shower and laundry facilities. Covered pens are available for equestrian RVers with horses .
A wandering Scimitar-horned oryx
Each cabin sleeps about five people with a queen bed, two twin mattresses in the upstairs loft, and a pull-out sleeper with linens. The kitchens are fully stocked with dishes and cookware and the bathrooms with towels and soap.
They’re furnished with both air conditioning and a heater to keep guests comfortable all four seasons. Their Orange Eland cabin is ADA-accessible and also pet-friendly.
Their furnished cabins
You can take a slow, easygoing drive through their safari to see the meandering wildlife. Look out for their freely roaming bison, deer, zebras, llamas, sheep, and wild turkeys. Armadillos, jackrabbits, emus, and even coyotes can occasionally be seen.
The best kind of traffic
At the speed limit of 5 MPH, their loop takes about an hour to complete or longer, depending on how often you want to stop for photos. You cannot feed the animals your own food, but they do have a special feed in their Gift Shop that you can give them out your window.
For your safety, stay inside your vehicle during the entire drive through their safari. If you would like to visit some of their exotic animals up-close, swing by their new petting zoo.
Imagine capturing this moment
Every drive through their sanctuary is unique, as you may not see the same animals every time. After the safari, have lunch outside in their picnic area and browse the gift shop for a new keepsake.
Also, if you’re bringing the kids, check out their Junior Explorer activities , which you can print off or ask for at check-in. Finish any three of the activities in a row and bring them in to their gift shop for a prize.
Bring your Junior Explorer
Admission to their safari is $12 for adults ($15 on weekends) and $10 for kids 11 and under ($12 on weekends). If you bring in a receipt from any local business in town, they will give you a 10% discount.
Rates for their RV sites are $40/night for pull-thrus and $35/night for back-ins. The cabins are $85/night on weekends (Fri-Sun and holidays) and $70/night from Mondays through Thursdays. Guests in their RV park and cabins can get a buy one day/get the second-day free ticket to the safari.
Buena Vista Wildlife Safari is located in Evant, Texas, just over an hour west of Waco. You can learn more about their animals, RV park, and cabins on their website . Let us know about your experience on RV LIFE Campgrounds .

We spent 5 nights in our travel trailer and thoroughly enjoyed the park. It is an absolute must for small children. P-Cay, the office manager, is very friendly and is ready to assist campers in every way possible. The rv sites are spacious, water pressure is perfect. The park has a petting zoo that holds a variety of adorable animals. The office will provide you with a free bag of feed and the animals readily recognize their meal treats as you approach their pens. I was very impressed with the park's restroom/shower facilities....super neat and clean. Also, the park has a wonderful game room, and again, it is kept super neat and clean. The game room has a wonderful pool table, available free of charge for park customers. We hope to visit again! READ MORE

I past this place about 6 months ago decided right then I want to bring my RV and stay here. Best decision I've made in months. My granddaughter and I have spent 3 days here. We've been inside the fence 🙂 4 times. Today was our final trip through this visit something occurred to me. These animals do NOT count on visitors to feed them, they are well taken care of and will eat it out of your hands but it's not like other parks I've been to where the animals almost fight to get to the food. The staff is super friendly! The rv site is gravel but level. There are pads with picnic tables. Overall if say great experience we will be back. Thanks for making my granddaughters visit one I know she'll remember for a long time. READ MORE
What a great trip again!!! I am a repeat visitor and will be coming back again!!! Have camped in my RV and this time I stayed in the cabins and they are so cute and worked great for us, the kids loved the loft!!!! Wake up to great views of the Bison and other wonderful animals!!!!

The Last Drive-in Picture Show is a twin screen drive-in theater located in Gatesville, Texas which is in the middle of the state located about half way between Dallas and Austin. The Last Drive-in Picture Show is one of the oldest drive-ins remaining in Texas. It was opened in 1950 originally named the Circle S. It went through several name changes over the years but was renamed the Last Drive-in Picture Show in 1989. It is also a “MoPed” – an instance where there is both a drive-in and walk-in cinema (which was added in 1972) on the same premises. The drive-in is open year round, seven nights a week (except for Christmas Eve). They charge $10 a carload so it is a great bargain. The same family has been running the drive-in for the last 40+ years and they do not show R rated movies here. Online Link.

‘It just grabbed her’: Giraffe picks up toddler during family trip to drive-thru safari
GLEN ROSE, Texas ( KWTX /Gray News) - A family in Texas says they went through quite the scare when recently visiting a wildlife center.
According to the Toten family, a giraffe accidentally picked their toddler up out of the bed of their truck when they were visiting the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center on June 1.
KWTX reports that park visitors get to drive themselves along a path where exotic and endangered animals roam free at the center.
Visitors are also allowed to feed the animals.
The family said Paisley, 2, was in the back of the pickup truck with her mom feeding the animals when the giraffe grabbed her shirt and lifted the little girl into the air.
Paisley’s father, Jason Toten, said the incident was caught on video by a car behind them.
“We stopped to feed the giraffes and I turned around to look out the back window,” he said. “That’s when I saw the giraffe kind of digging around and then it just grabbed her.”
According to the Toten family, it appeared to be a complete accident and they didn’t break any rules.
“Paisley was holding the bag, and the giraffe went to go get the bag, not her, but it ended up getting her shirt too and picked her up,” Toten said.
Thankfully, Paisley didn’t get too high up before the giraffe dropped her.
“As soon as she went up, her mom yelled, ‘Hey!’ and the giraffe let go,” Toten said.
Paisley’s father said she ended up falling into her mother’s arms without anyone getting hurt, but it still was a scary moment.
“My heart stopped, my stomach dropped … it scared me,” Toten said.
Afterward, Toten said they went to the gift shop and got Paisley a toy giraffe because “she deserved it.”
The family said they do plan on returning to the park in the future.
According to the wildlife center, visitors are allowed to ride in the bed of a truck if an adult is riding in the back with them and everyone is safely inside the vehicle.

University Parks Drive in Waco reopens after 4 years of construction
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Many Waco residents have complained about construction on University Parks Drive ever since crews began working on the road back in 2020, fully closing a portion of the road that links I-35 to downtown Waco.
Now, after four years of dealing with road closures and detours, University Park Drive is finally open to vehicles and pedestrians.
Construction on this road has been a part of the city of Waco’s efforts to improve the area and make it more attractive to locals and visitors.
“The goal of the project is to create an inclusive downtown so that we would have living spaces, recreational spaces, eating spaces, relaxing spaces… you know, all the things that you would think of that would make you want to visit,” shared Jessica Emmett Sellers with the city of Waco
However, when crews closed the road from Jackson Avenue to Interstate 35, this impacted several of the businesses in the area.
One of the businesses affected is Mamaka Bowls, which opened just a few months before construction started.
Stephanie Sims, manager of Mamaka Bowls, explained that “it definitely makes getting to Mamaka less convenient for people, so everybody has to go the longer way around, which maybe could deter some people.”
She says construction has taken so long that people have gotten used to just avoiding the area altogether.
“It’s kind of just become normal, I’m just like oh there’s construction on the road like, you have to go around,” said Sims.
Many locals have been asking for years now why it has taken them so long to finish this construction.
Emmett Sellers says it was already a big project with a lot of moving parts, but then they began working with Baylor on the construction of Foster Pavilion.
According to Emmett Sellers, “adding a pretty significant component to that project, the parking garage, and also a basketball pavilion, that’s what kind of extended that timeline.”
And since construction began in 2020, supply chain issues also caused delays.
But this morning they officially opened back up that portion of University Parks Drive to the public, which both city officials and business owners are equally excited about.
“Being able to kind of see the finish line when you’re talking about four years of a project behind you and less than that in front of you, so that’s definitely a good feeling,” said Emmett Sellers
Sims shared, “I’m really excited to see the whole new area and the road to be open.”
According to the city they still have approximately two years worth of construction left on University Parks Drive, but the road will remain open to vehicles and pedestrians during that work.

Family details shocking moment when giraffe lifts toddler into the air at drive-thru safari park in Texas
A family's close encounter with a giraffe at a Texas drive-thru safari park was captured on camera, showing the animal plucking a toddler out of the bed of their truck and several feet into the air.
The incident at Fossil Rim Safari Center near Glen Rose, Texas, over the weekend went viral, as 2-year-old Paisley's mom asked her in the video if she wanted to feed the giraffe, just seconds before it lifted her up.
Jason Toten, Paisley's dad, told NBC News his family wasn't expecting the giraffe to pick up his daughter instead of the bag of food she was holding.
“It was an accident and the giraffe didn’t mean to — it was just one of (those) things that happened," he said.
Toten said Paisley was uninjured in the incident, and that his family headed to the gift shop afterwards, where they bought Paisley a toy giraffe and matching shirt.
“We’re gonna revisit. We're not mad at the giraffe. We’re not mad at the park," he said.
"We’re still gonna encourage everybody else to go visit," he continued. "It’s a great place to go, especially for toddlers or kids really that love animals."
Fossil Rim Safari Center told NBC News on June 5 the safety of its guests and animals is "always of utmost importance," and that while an "incident like this has never occurred" at the park before, it would be taking action.
"Effective immediately Fossil Rim will no longer be allowing guests to ride through the park in truck beds," the center said in a statement. "Fossil Rim offers a variety of experiences guided by knowledgeable staff so guests can continue to have up-close and memorable animal encounters, and support our mission to save threatened and endangered species."
Toten said he was disappointed by the abrupt policy change.
"We’re saddened to hear that they changed the rule to no riding in the back of the truck," he said.
Sierra Robert, Paisley's mom, summarized their trip in a Facebook post: "It was a blast buttttt…. I would discourage you from riding in the back of the truck."
