A Guide to Alcohol on Disney Cruises

A Disney Cruise Line vacation is a great family vacation option, and the consumption of alcohol can enhance the experience for adults. This guide will look at how and where alcohol is served and Disney’s policy relating to alcohol on Disney cruises.  Read on for our complete guide to alcohol on Disney Cruises.

Disney Cruise Line  Alcohol Policy

As a guest on Disney Cruise Line, you must comply with all laws, policies, and procedures regarding the consumption and distribution of alcohol. You may not provide any other person with alcohol, regardless of their age.

Is alcohol included in the price of a Disney cruise?

Disney cruises are nearly all-inclusive, but some beverages are an additional charge.

Alcohol is not included in the price of a Disney cruise , nor is tipping the server or bartender. These drinks are charged to your stateroom account, and paid out-of-pocket or with Disney onboard credit . 

The following refreshments are provided at no additional cost:

• Soft drinks, coffee, and tea served at meals
• Non-alcoholic drinks at the Beverage Station
• Drinks served at Vibe teen lounge

The following beverages are subject to an additional charge:

• Alcoholic beverages, bottled water, smoothies, and specialty coffees offered during meals
• Beer, wine, cocktails, non-alcoholic drinks, and bottled water available in lounge areas

What’s the drinking age onboard a Disney Cruise?

Disney Cruise Line’s alcohol policy states that all guests must be 21 years of age or older to purchase or consume alcohol unless covered by a special exception (outlined below). Those who appear to be under the age of 30 will be asked for ID when purchasing alcohol.

Can 18-year-olds drink on Disney Cruise?

The drinking age on all of Disney Cruise Line’s ships is 21, but 18- to 20-year-olds cruising with Disney may be permitted to consume alcohol on these itineraries:

• Round-trip cruises departing from European countries with a lower drinking age: Parents or guardians may sign a Beverage Consent Form which permits an 18- to 20-year-old to consume alcoholic beverages while in the adult’s presence.
• Round-trip cruises departing from Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, or Sydney: Passengers 18 and older may purchase and consume alcoholic beverages with no need for parental consent/presence.
• One-Way cruises between Hawaii and Australia:  Parents or guardians may sign a Beverage Consent Form which permits an 18- to 20-year-old to consume alcoholic beverages while in the adult’s presence.

Rules may change from time to time; always check the current policy to ensure you have the latest information.

These policies and exceptions are designed to help Disney’s younger guests enjoy their cruise while still respecting the laws of their home countries.

To be clear, onboard drinking age policies are based solely on the country the cruise is departing from — not on the country of an individual passenger’s citizenship. Of course, all guests must have a valid photo ID to be served.

It is important to note that all adult-only areas are available to guests 18 and older, including the nightclubs and lounges, spa, fitness center, Quiet Cove Pool, and the two adult-only restaurants. Serenity Bay is a private, gorgeous beach on Castaway Cay and is only available to adults 18 and older.

Even though Disney Cruises allows guests 18 and older in the adult areas of the ship, the legal drinking age is still 21 in these areas.

Can Guests bring their own alcohol on Disney Cruises?

Disney Cruise Line guests are permitted to bring beer and wine on board the ship, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

• The guest is limited to six beers (12 ounces or less) or two bottles of wine or champagne (750 ml or less) at embarkation and each port of call . In other words, you are welcome to replenish your supply of alcohol while the ship is docked (as long as it’s within limits).
• Guests must pack all alcoholic beverages in carry-on luggage. Checked baggage is not allowed to contain alcoholic beverages.
• If guests bring their own alcohol on board, they can consume it in their stateroom or stateroom veranda or bring their wine or champagne bottle to the dining room.
• Guests who wish to consume wine or champagne in the dining room will be charged a corking fee of $25.00 per bottle.
• By following these guidelines, guests can enjoy their favorite drinks while sailing with Disney Cruise Line.

Here are some more things to keep in mind with alcohol on Disney Cruises:

• Alcohol inside checked luggage will be removed and will not be returned. Compensation will not be given.
• Passengers must bring alcohol onboard in the original, unopened container. Broken seals and partially used bottles are prohibited.
• The ship will not allow you to bring in more than two bottles of wine or champagne, or more than six cans of beer, and your losses will not be refunded. Do not try to bring in more than the allowed amount.
• Passengers cannot consume alcohol brought on board in the lounge or public areas.
• The cruise line will store liquors, spirits, and excess wine and beer purchased at the ports until the cruise ends.
• The guests are responsible for retrieving stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. It is Disney’s policy to throw out unclaimed items without compensation.
• Disney Cruise Line may change their alcohol policy at any time without notice.

Compared to other cruise lines, Disney Cruise Line has one of the most generous policies regarding bringing alcohol on board. Following these guidelines, you’ll be able to save money on your Disney cruise while enjoying your favorite alcoholic beverage. So put your favorite drink on your packing list !

Does Disney Cruise Line have a Drink Package? 

Disney Cruise Line does not have an all-you-can-drink alcohol package like some other cruise lines. However, they offer a wine package that may be a better value for you, depending on how many bottles you plan to order.

The Classic Wine Package includes three to seven bottles of wine, and the Premium Wine Package consists of three to seven bottles of wine with a higher quality selection.

If you do not finish the bottle during dinner, your server will save the bottle for you. It will be ready and waiting for you when you go to dinner the next day. Or you can ask your server to cork it up for you and take it back to your stateroom or another bar to enjoy.

Prices for the Disney Cruise Classic Wine Package:

• 3 Bottle Classic Wine Package: $95.00
• 4 Bottle Classic Wine Package: $124.00
• 5 Bottle Classic Wine Package: $149.00
• 7 Bottle Classic Wine Package: $199.00

Prices for the Disney Cruise Premium Wine Package:

• 3 Bottle Premium Wine Package: $145.00

How much does alcohol cost on Disney Cruises?

The cost of an alcoholic beverage on a Disney Cruise depends on the type of beverage and the venue. The cruise price does not include alcohol, so all guests must pay separately.

Drinks start at around $7 and can go up to $16 or more for premium cocktails. Wine and beer are typically less expensive than mixed drinks, and prices are subject to change.

All the beverages served on board Disney cruises are complimentary, except for alcoholic beverages, certain specialty drinks, and bottled beverages. Soft drinks, coffee, and tea are included with meals, along with non-alcoholic drinks at the Beverage Station and soft drinks in the Vibe teens-only lounge.

Drinks in Disney Cruise Rotational Dining Restaurants

On a Disney Cruise, you can select from a wide range of drinks when dining in the main rotational restaurants . You’ll have the option of ordering any cocktail you like, as well as a special selection on your menu each day, chosen to complement the food and theme of the restaurant. Two alcoholic cocktails and another non-alcoholic cocktail are always available.

Those who enjoy wine can bring their own bottle (for a $25 corkage fee) or purchase the Wine Package. Bottles of wines are also available by the glass on the Wine List. There are also specialty coffees and liquors available for an additional fee.

If you want something non-alcoholic, all the soda types available on the pool deck are also free to drink in restaurants. If you want an iced tea or Sprite, you can do so for free.

Beverage Tastings Events on Disney Cruise Ships

Beverage tastings on Disney cruises allow guests to sample select adult beverages and learn about different types of wine, beer, spirits, and more. The seminars vary based on ship and itinerary, so check the daily onboard activities for times and locations.

A nominal fee is associated with beverage tastings, and availability is limited. Guests must be 21 years of age or older to participate. Events are subject to change or cancellation without notice.

Reservations for beverage tastings can be made online through the Planning Center or at any time during your cruise. We recommend that you reserve your spot as early as possible due to the popularity of these events. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the reserved experience. Guests will be charged the full price if cancellation falls within 24 hours before the event starts.

Amari Tasting

Beer tasting, bourbon tasting, champagne tasting, chocolate & liquor tasting, cognac tasting, kick-start your day beverage tasting, martini tasting, mixology class, mojito & caipirinha tasting, rum tasting, stem-to-stern wine tasting, tequila & margarita tasting, whiskey tasting.

Beverage Tasting events on Disney cruises usually cost between $40 and $50, though some special events may cost more. It is a good idea to book in advance as these sell out quickly.

Save Money with the Sommelier Bin

If you’re looking to save money on wine while on your Disney Cruise, check out the “Sommelier Bin” on Disney’s cocktail menus.

For just $10 per glass, you can choose from a selection of white, red, or sparkling wines. Your bartender will select a wine for you based on the available open bottles.

It’s a fun way to try an unknown or expensive wine without spending too much money.

Try the Disney Drink of the Day

Disney Cruise Lines offers a different Drink of the Day daily, with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions available. This will be shown daily in your Navigator App , but if you don’t know what it is, just ask any of the bar staff.

Since the alcoholic versions cost around $6.25 with a gratuity, the Drink of the Day saves you money. Although it is impossible to predict which drink of the day will be available on your Disney Cruise, certain ones are offered more frequently than others.

Some popular Drink of the Day choice includes Captain’s Mai Tai, Espresso Chiller, High Tide, Melon Margarita, Paradise Punch, Sunken Treasure, and Yellow Bird. For those seeking a non-alcoholic drink, options may include Parrot Song and Passion Cream Freeze, Mint Tea Punch, and Lava Smoothie.

Can you buy alcohol in Castaway Cay?

Guests can purchase alcoholic drinks at several bars on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. The island’s four beach bars – Conched Out Bar , Heads Up Bar, Sand Bar, and Castaway Air Bar – serve beer, cocktails, and frozen drinks.

Castaway Cay Tip : Among the most requested beverages on Castaway Cay is the Konk Cooler, a combination of rum, orange juice, and passion fruit. Try it!

Disney Cruise Line Alcohol Policy & Corkage Fees

A question we often get from our listeners and readers is if passengers can bring their own alcohol onboard their Disney cruise. It’s fairly well known that purchasing alcoholic beverages on your Disney cruise can be a pricey option, and due to this, many cruisers choose to bring their own adult beverages with them, but there are very specific rules you need to be aware of prior to arriving for your cruise.

Guests 21 years and older are permitted to bring 2 bottles of wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) when they first board their cruise and at each port of call . The bottles or cans must be packed in your carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage. So, if there is a particular adult beverage that you know you can purchase in one of the ports of call on your itinerary, fear not as you can make your purchases as long as you stay within the limitations.

Guests who wish to bring the wine or champagne that they have brought to enjoy in one of the onboard dining rooms will be charged a corking fee of $25.00* per bottle.

Important items to note:

• Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and stored until the end of the cruise.
• All alcohol brought onboard must be in its original, unopened container. Partially used bottles and those in which the seal has been broken will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.
• Any wine or champagne in excess of 2 bottles or beer in excess of 6 beers will be stored until the end of the cruise.
• Bringing liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) onboard is prohibited. These items will be stored until the end of the cruise.
• Guest MUST retrieve any stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. Items not retrieved will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.
• Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area. 

If you prefer to drink draft beer from any of the restaurants, lounges, or bars onboard the ship, there is one way that you can save a few bucks. Disney Cruise Line sells a 21-ounce glass refillable beer mug . When you bring the mug to have it refilled, you pay the standard pour price for 16 ounces, so you’re getting an extra 5 ounces each time you use it. If you’re a big beer drinker, purchasing this mug will save you a few vacation dollars during the duration of your cruise. In February 2022, the cost of the mug was $15.25 (plus tax), but that price can change at any time.

*It’s important to note that the Disney Cruise Line alcohol policy is subject to change without notice as are their corkage fees.

Disney cruise drink packages: How to save on beer, wine, cocktails and coffee

If you're looking for a Disney cruise drink package, you might be disappointed. That's because Disney Cruise Line doesn't sell a traditional all-inclusive beverage package like other cruise lines do. Still, passengers have plenty of ways to get alcohol or other specialty drinks on the ship at a discount.

Guests who look forward to a glass of Chardonnay with dinner, umbrella-clad drinks by the pool or a nightcap on their balcony can save with wine- and beer-focused packages or even by bringing their own drinks on board with Disney's generous policy.

After sailing on seven Disney cruises, I've tried just about every trick to get a deal on drinks. Here's what you need to know to decide if any of Disney's cruise drink packages or money-saving hacks are worth it for your family.

Which drinks are included on a Disney cruise?

Your Disney cruise fare includes some beverages but not others; alcohol is not included, so a glass of wine, beer or cocktail will cost you extra.

One of the biggest perks to a Disney cruise, however, is that soda from specific onboard locations is included in the cost of your sailing. Soft drinks can be found at the beverage station on Deck 9 of Disney Magic and Disney Wonder and at two beverage stations on Deck 11 of Disney Wish , Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. Teens can also find complimentary sodas in the teen-only lounge, Vibe. Soda is included at meals, as well.

However, if you order a soft drink from a bar or lounge, you will be charged a per-drink fee. Be careful about what you order so you don't pay for a drink that's free elsewhere on the ship.

Besides soda, other free-of-charge, non-alcoholic options available at beverage stands include coffee, milk and juice. At dinner, you can get soda, coffee and tea for free.

Disney cruise drink packages for wine

Wine lovers don't have the option of an all-inclusive drinks package, but they can take advantage of discounted pricing for pre-purchasing wine bundles. Disney Cruise Line says the packages offer a 25% savings over ordering bottles a la carte on board.

Wine packages range from $105 to $220 for three, four, five or seven bottles of wine from a pre-selected "classic" list of white, red or sparkling wines. The package goes up in price to $155 to $330 for three to seven bottles of wine from the premium wine list.

You can choose different vintages or the same for each night of your cruise. One perk of this package is that you don't have to order the number of bottles corresponding to your sailing length. You can order more than one bottle per night, and what you don't finish can be taken back to your cabin or enjoyed the following evening in the dining room. Or, you can order just a few bottles for a weeklong cruise if you'll easily split a bottle over two dinners.

Disney cruise drink packages for beer

If you want a beer package, the options are slightly more limited than the wine offerings. You can choose from seven different beers, including Blue Moon, Corona and Heineken, and each comes in a six-pack for the price of five beers at $36.25.

If you're a hard seltzer fan, you can also order a six-pack of Truly pineapple or wild berry for $32.50. These can be delivered to your cabin for you to enjoy at your leisure around the ship.

How to book Disney's beer and wine packages

You can book Disney's cruise drink packages for beer and wine online before your sailing or after you get onto the ship.

To book before boarding your cruise, go to Disney's onboard gifts webpage and choose the beer or wine package that works for you. According to Disney Cruise Line, most of the items can be delivered to your cabin on embarkation day, but you can also choose to have them delivered to a dining room to enjoy at dinner.

Once you're on the ship, you can order packages in the main dining room on the first night of your restaurant rotation, from crew selling beverage packages at kiosks around the ship or by calling guest services or room service.

Disney Cruise Line's bring-your-own alcohol policy

If you're looking for additional ways to save on cruise drinks, you might want to consider bringing your own alcohol.

Compared to most cruise lines that allow guests to bring only a small amount of wine with them upon embarkation only, Disney's alcohol policy for guests is generous. Every person 21 or older can bring two bottles of unopened wine or Champagne or six 12-ounce beers on board at the beginning of the cruise and at each port of call.

All drinks that you are bringing with you must be put in your carry-on bag. If you accidentally pack these drinks in your checked luggage, they will be removed and not returned, even at the end of the sailing.

If you bring wine with a cork, your stateroom host can provide you with a corkscrew and glasses to use. Those who want to enjoy the wine they brought on board in the dining room must pay a $26 corkage fee per bottle, so plan to drink your own bottles in your cabin to save money.

Other ways to save money on drinks with Disney Cruise Line

Even without an all-inclusive drink package, you can save money on drinks on a Disney cruise. These are our six tried-and-true tips for ordering fun cocktails and specialty beverages for less.

Find happy hours across the ship

While alcohol isn't free on board any Disney Cruise Line ship, you can take advantage of daily happy hours to save money. You can find out when and where happy hour is by browsing through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app each day. Happy hour is listed under daily events, and the app will tell you when and where you can find drink specials.

On my most recent Disney cruise, happy hour rotated around the various adults-only bars and lounges, though times did change depending on the bar. Select drinks were half-priced.

Try the drink of the day

If you're into tropical drinks, you'll want to try your ship's drink of the day every day, including on port days at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay. This rotating menu of drinks is offered at a discount.

Additionally, you can purchase a drink of the day souvenir cup, which is usually a plastic hurricane-style cup, to use throughout your cruise. This cup can only be used for a drink of the day purchase, but with the cup, you do get a larger serving of the daily cocktail special.

Check out the Sommelier Bin wines

Select bars on all Disney Cruise Line ships feature a menu with a small section called the Sommelier Bin. With this, you tell your server or bartender you want a glass of white, red or sparkling wine from the bin. They will select a wine based on the already open bottles, but you won't know exactly what you're getting until it's poured and delivered.

If you want to try something new or feel adventurous one evening, the Sommelier Bin is a great way to sample wine at a discounted price.

Enjoy free drinks in the concierge lounge

If you splurge and book yourself a concierge-level room on any of the Disney Cruise Line ships, you're privy to a host of extra amenities and benefits. One of them is free drinks.

All day, bottled water, soft drinks, milk and juice are available, and in the evening beer, wine and spirits are served by lounge bartenders. Upon arrival, you will get an information sheet with times for the daily food and beverage offerings so you know when your family should show up for meals or drink service. If you do get a cocktail or mocktail, you can take it outside the lounge if you have somewhere else to be around the ship.

Save with the Disney Cruise Line beer mug

For those who like to sip on a cold beer while enjoying a show, time at the pool or playing trivia, the beer mug savings package could be worth buying. You can buy the mug online before your cruise from the Onboard Gifts and Amenities area of the Disney Cruise Line website for $15.25. You can also purchase it once you're on the ship from one of the kiosks with crew selling drink packages.

The package allows you to get a 21-ounce refill of beer for the price of a 16-ounce beer from any bar on the ship that offers draft beer.

You also get a beer token with the package, which entitles you to all of the benefits of the package without having to carry the glass around with you. If you choose to go with the beer mug token, you can swap it in for a mug on the last night of your cruise. The mug makes a great souvenir to take home.

Get a coffee punch card

Just like other cruise lines, specialty coffee drinks are an added cost on Disney Cruise Line ships. You can find these drinks in the Cove Cafe, an adults-only coffee spot on every ship, or at the inside coffee bars near the main atrium.

If you plan on drinking more than five specialty coffee beverages throughout your sailing, ask the crew member making your drink for a punch card. Every time you visit the Cove Cafe or one of the atrium coffee bars and order a coffee-based drink, you can get your card punched. After five punches, your sixth drink is free.

Pro-tip: Put your card in your lanyard or wallet with your room key so you always have it with you. You don't want to go to pay for your coffee order only to find out you don't have your punch card with you.

Will you really miss the drink package if you're sailing on Disney Cruise Line?

If you've sailed on other cruise lines and bought the drink package, you might think that you will miss its benefits on Disney Cruise Line. The truth is that because Disney offers so many ways to enjoy specialty drinks and alcohol that are free or discounted, including being able to bring your own alcohol on at every port of call, you might end up saving money on drinks while sailing with Disney, compared to other lines.

Should you choose to have cocktails or specialty drinks, just be sure to set a daily drink budget and check yourself daily to be sure you're not spending too much on beverages.

Disney Cruise Alcohol Policy, Drink Packages, Wine

Bringing your own liquor onboard Disney cruises? It may be surprising, but Disney cruise alcohol policy is not as strict as the alcohol policies of other lines. The key to it is called "moderation".

Disney Cruise Alcohol Policy - drinking age, bringing liquor and wine on Disney ships

Disney cruise alcohol policy about drinking age (on all Disney ships and all itineraries) is 21. Disney Cruise Line doesn't prohibit passengers from bringing alcohol on board.

Disney policy about bringing liquor onboard says that at embarkation you can bring your own liquor on board, but it is allowed to consume in cabins only. Alcohol brought by guests on board mustn't be consumed in any public or lounge area. Passengers who arrive in dining rooms with a bottle of champagne or wine will be charged $20.00 25.00 corking fee per bottle.

Disney cruise guests may bring only one unopened bottle of Champagne (wine), or six bottles (cans) of beer - per person. However, any fragile item (which includes alcohol) must only be hand-carried in carry-on luggage or a day bag which can't exceed 14" high, 22" wide, and 9" deep (or in centimeters, it's 36x56x23).

If you dare thinking about Disney cruise alcohol policy that yours is going to be a bag full of liquor fragile bottles that aren't going to break, you're wrong. Because obviously you have never seen the port luggage process - putting anything that is fragile in porters' hands is a disaster. Disney line's alcohol policy about fragile items (which include beverages) says that the line reserves right to remove them from checked luggage. In such a case, all fragile things will be stored, subsequently returned when the voyage ends.

NOTE: Starting Sept. 30, 2015, Disney Cruise Line limited how much beer and wine guests are allowed to bring onboard. Spirits and liquor are no longer permitted.

Passengers 21 years or older may bring a max of two bottles unopened wine or Champagne (less than 750 ml) or 6 beers (less than 12 ounces) on board a cruise ship of Disney at the beginning of the voyage, as well as at each port. Any beer, wine or Champagne in excess of this amount is taken and stored until the end of the cruise.

The beverages must be put in carry-on bags. Any booze found in checked luggage is removed and stored until the end of sailing. Any powdered alcohol, liquor or spirits found is also taken and stored. The confiscated alcohol must be picked up by travelers: it is not distributed to cabins. Those items that are not picked up, are destroyed; no compensation is offered.

Beer, wine, and Champagne brought on board may be consumed only in the dining room (a corkage fee of $25 is applied - up from $20), or in passengers' cabins.

Disney cruises beverage policy rules and allowance

• Coolers aren't permitted on board except for passengers who need them for medication, items which are related to different dietary constraints, or baby food. Items have to be unopened, pre-packaged, and can't require food prep from the kitchen. Coolers with personal items (e.g. candy, soda, chips) must not be brought.
• Homemade or pre-cooked items purchased on way to the Disney ship, containers with snack items or open bags won't be allowed to be brought on board. Disney ships refrigeration and storage aren't available to use.
• Onboard Disney, the mark-up on wine is quite high, so if you have some bottles to drink at dinner, before going to the dining room better bring with you and cork in your room.
• Check your wine local shop or shipping site for packaging options. You can use a wine shipper box.
• Complimentary juices with in-room breakfast menu are available. So you can add a few orange juices or even request cranberry juice - leave them for later in the mini-fridge. The stateroom attendant will bring ice in a silver bucket. On the pool deck pop is available at 24/7 beverage complimentary station. So Coke for rum is taken care of.
• Drink specials are available each day, so ask the bartender about the drink of the day. Or check the Personal Navigator - there is one with and one without alcohol, the price is discounted slightly.
• You can bring purchased at ports of call liquor onboard but have to consume it in the cabin. The liquor purchased in Disney cruise ships duty-free shops must be held until the last night of your voyage.
• Captain's cocktail party is open to all guests on formal night and provides a wide choice of complimentary drinks.
• Disney cruise beer list onboard Disney ships is a wide choice- Yuengling, Coors, Samuel Adams, Michelob Ultra, Guinness, Heineken, Stella, Miller, Budweiser, and Blue Moon. Bottled beers list includes Miller, Bud Light, Bud Light Lime, Budweiser, Amstel Light, Heineken, Guinness, Newcastle Brown Ale, and Harp lager.
• Specialty Bars on Disney ships vary from piano and sports bars to nightclubs and adults-only that serve martinis. The Disney onboard options to relax with cocktails are numerous.

Choose from one of the Disney Wine Packages below for a savings of up to 25%. A 15% gratuity is added for the servicing of all Disney Cruises wine packages.

For example, a 3-night package would be 3 bottles of wine. If you don’t drink all the wine, you can take it home. If you like, you can drink more than one bottle per evening - you have purchased a package and are free to order more than one bottle per evening. If you don’t finish a bottle in one evening, you can take it back to a stateroom or your server can rotate it to your next dining.

Each traveler who returns from Eastern Caribbean to the USA can bring up to a total of $1,200 worth duty-free merchandise - it's the retail price. No more combined purchases than the cost of $800 can be made onboard Disney ship, Castaway Cay, and St Maarten. The entire exemption of $1,200 may be used alone on St Thomas' purchases.

Each passenger who is 21 or older is limited to five liters alcohol. Onboard Disney or in St Maarten you can acquire only a liter, with additional four liters if purchased on St Thomas (provided that at least one liter is US Virgin Islands produced in).

A Guide to Drinking on a Disney Cruise

UPDATE: New Beverage Policy Limits Carry-on qualities and Increase to Corkage Fee – effective 9/30/15.

The Beverage Policy

There are many places onboard a Disney ship for an adult to order a drink.  While the ship may sail to ports where the drinking age is under 21, the drinking age on a Disney Cruise Line ship is 21 ; what is done while in port is another story. Just don’t be stupid — laws are much different in the ports than at home.  It is also worth noting that there is an exeption to the drinking age for roundtrip sailings departing a European port.  On these sailings, guests 18 and over may purchase alcohol while in their presence onboard providing that a beverage consent form was completed during check-in.

Disney Cruise Line is very gracious and permits guests to bring a limited amount of wine, champagne or beer onboard at embarkation.  On other cruise lines, they will confiscate your beverages and return them at debarkation. This privilege does come with a few rules.  First, all alcohol must be carried on with you at embarkation. Any beverages found in checked luggage will be removed, stored, and returned at the end of the cruise. The main reason for this is that the glass bottles can break and ruin not only your clothes, but other guests’ luggage.  No one wants to start their cruise doing laundry when they could be enjoying the Sail Away Deck Party , or worse, miss dinner. The other rule is that any alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public areas. The exception to this rule allows for bottles of wine to be taken to dinner for a $20 $25 corking fee.

Any liquor purchased in port may be brought onboard and consumed in your stateroom.  However, any alcohol purchased onboard from the ship’s duty free store (see below for a price list) will be held until the last night of your cruise.

Under the new guest alcohol policy, any liquor purchased in port will be checked when returning to the ship and will be available for pickup near the gangway on debarkation day. This is also the procedure for duty free liquor purchases from WhiteCaps.

Whomever said that there is no such thing is a free drink is wrong.  Well, technically, they are right, but I’m not going to get into that discussion.  Complimentary drinks are available during Castaway Club Reception, and the Captain’s cocktail party, usually held on formal night in the Atrium Lobby .

Drink of the Day

Each day you can find the featured Drink of the Day on your Personal Navigator .  As of January 2017, the drinks are $4.75 plus tax and 15% gratuity, which make them $5.46. The non-alcholoic drinks of the day are $4.25 plus tax making them $4.89.Some examples are listed below:

Drink Specials

From time to time, there will be unadvertised drink specials. For example, one afternoon while relaxing on the pool deck, my wife ordered the Drink of the Day. The waitress mentioned there was a current special for 2 for 1 Mai Tais for $5.50 ( around $6.50 with tax and gratuity ), so she got those instead.  On Castaway Cay, there is an announced 2 for 1 special around 2 PM or later.  This past June (2012), the offer began at 2:15 PM and lasted for an hour.  The best part was this was valid for any drink! This is a great deal if you get the Drink of the Day – two drinks for $3.95 $4.50 (plus 15% gratuity of course)!!

The Beer Mug

For $16.95 you can buy a 22 oz. Disney Cruise Line, glass beer mug with the beer of your choice. For the remainder of your cruise, you can have it refilled for the price of a 16 oz! The bars will exchange the mug for a beer mug token when you are finished to take the weight and responsibility of the the glass mug off your hands until you are ready for a refill. It is also nice at the end of your cruise to exchange for a clean mug to pack in your luggage.

Various draft beer is available (availability seems to vary) at various locations including O’Gills and Currents up on the pool deck.

Skyline on the [Disney_Fantasy] offers a passport card for $59.  The Skyline Passport card entitles you to seven hand-crafted martinis, themed to each to the cities of the seven rotating European skylines.  Breaking this down, you will get seven martinis for the price of six.

Here’s a question: when you purchase a wine package, I believe that DCL adds the 15% gratuity at that point. Thing is, on the following nights, do people still give some level of gratuity? I personally did, as I felt bad not to give anything at all on subsequent nights (especially the Skyline Passport book)… But I’m curious to hear about other experience. Thanks!!

Great question. From what I’ve witnessed the Assistant Server does all the work when you have a wine package. One cruise we hardly saw the assistant as he was busy with the wine at 2 other tables. I would imagine any extra would be taken care of in the final tips.

As for the Skyline passport, we did no discover this until night 4, but my wife plans on getting it in December.

Are there virgin (non-alcoholic) versions of majority of the drinks on board? Ex: Virgin bahama mama, virgin bay breeze. If so is there an age policy as to who gets to drink virgin drinks. Im 18 years old & im planning a disney cruise for me and 2 others, I’ll be 19 or 20 when I actually go, will I be able to drink virgin versions of the special drinks ?

I think this will come to the bartender. A friend of mine has purchased multiple passports and redeemed two at a time for her and her husband. I would ask first. The other thing to note I’d that you do not need to order the specific country martini, you can order off the menu.

Hello, I’m wondering about standard drinks such as soda and water. Is there a charge for those on decks other than the pool deck? Would it be better to pre-order the bottled water to have in our stateroom?

Water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, soda, and ice are always available for free free at the drink stations. Just bring a refillable mug as the cups provided are small.

I would say they would be similarly priced, but tiered to your choice of spirits.

You are technically buying the bottles. So, you can share with anyone.

The price is for the package, not per bottle. Your assistant server will bring the bottle to the table and serve you.

I’m not sure about the nights you do not eat in the dinning rooms.

Soda water was not available at the drink station. I updated the article with the the available mixers you can find at the drink stations by the pool deck and in Cabanas.

I just came back from a trip on the Disney Wonder and soda water is now available in the soda machines by the pool, so you can avoid carrying extra lbs on the carry on luggage.

I was on the Magic in May and they had plain soda water good for a mixer at the drink station. First time I’ve seen that.

That is correct, as of September 2015 , guests can only carry on a limited amount of beer and wine at each port. Liquor is not permitted and will be held until the final morning of the cruise.

Are we allowed to bring on a bottle of alcohol that has been opened?

Sure. They don’t inspect things. Your alcohol must be in your carry on. As you go thru security, your bag goes thru a security X-ray. You pick it up, and go up the escalator to into the port. That’s it! No one pulls out the bottles to inspect them. As long as your alcohol is tightly closed, you’ll be fine. Enjoy 🙂

Is there a limit in quantity and size for wine bottles you take on board?

Monica, you are only limited to what you can carry on the ship.

If you carry on your alcohol. Can you take it with you to the pool in a collapsible little cooler? Or have to stay in room only? This is my first cruise. Any information will be helpful thank you.

DCL asks that all alcohol carried on with you is consumed in your stateroom aside from bringing a bottle of wine to dinner.

On a couple of our cruises some guests were taking their own beer to the pool decks and into the bars on the ship. I’m sure this type of activity will eventually cause DCL to stop the ‘bring your own’ privilege. Please try to confine your alcohol containers to your staterooms. Bring a refillable container and carry that around.

If you can carry it, you can bring it.

Yes, you will need to carry anything you bring in the ship until about 1:30 when the staterooms are available.

We still have several souvenir cups and mugs from the daily mixed drink special and beer refill special from a previous cruise. Could we just take those with us? We never use them and would just end up with more glasses taking up space in my cabinets.

It is quite common for people to bring the beer mugs back with them on future sailings.

Yes, soda is free at the drink stations by the pool around the clock. Additionally, you can use the drink stations in the buffets when open. Soda is also free in the dining rooms. You will however pay for soda if you order it at a bar or in the theatre.

Not bad, but not necessary. All you need to do it stop at any bar and ask for wine glasses. Fill up in your room, and take the glasses of wine to dinner. We’ve done this in the MDRs and at Palo. We’ve also had cruises where our stateroom host has left us fresh glasses as well! No need to hide the wine in a shroud of a coffee mug 🙂

You can take in as many bottles as you can physically carry on.

Does the ship have any caffine free sodas?

In terms of the cola options at the drink station, no. However, some of the soda options like sprite are caffeine free.

My children do not drink soda or tea, is there juice or other non-carbonated choices @ the drink station?

The drink station does have lemonade and fruit punch. Real juice is available inside Cabanas and Beach Blanket Buffet during operating hours, or from room service.

Yes, they will. We typically bring 2 and Sunday are bringing on 3. We’ve not had an issue in the past.

Disney asks that you consume your personal alcohol in the privacy of your stateroom with the exception of bringing a bottle of wine to dinner. By this guideline it would be considered wrong, but at the end of the day it is your decision.

I am traveling on the Disney Magic in 2 weeks. I am familiar with the alcohol policy but had to book transportation from Ft. Lauderdale to Port of Miami privately. Private car was cost prohibitive and shuttles do not stop at liquor store. However, the shuttle company told me that there is a liquor store in the Port that I can walk to from where the Shuttle drops me off. If you bring it in your carry on you can drink it at your leisure. If you purchase onboard you will not get the bottle until the last night of the cruise.

Sure. You may want to look into ordering 2 wine packages versus adding on a bottle each night.

You can purchase a smaller package and bring your own to supplement. Keep in mind that you will (may) be charged a corking fee for the bottles you bring.

We are taking the Disney shuttle from airport to Port Canaveral. If we put bottles in our checked bag would we be able to take it out and put in our carry on luggage or do they deliver your luggage to your statroom?

No, I believe once you check your bags at the airport the next time you will see them is in your stateroom.

You could always have a separate bag checkin on the airline that doesn’t have the DCL tag on it. Before heading to the shuttle, go to baggage claim and get your bag, then treat it like a carry on for the remainder of your trip to the ship.

For you beer drinkers that also fly to Orlando, the last 2 cruises we went on we would take an extra suitcase with us, pack very lightly in any combination. For example, our kids would have a suitcase for all thier clothes, and my wife and I would have a suitcase each packed about half full. Once in Orlando we would pack all of our clothes into one suitcase, leaving us with and extra suitcase that was now empty. We then filled the empty suitcase with our beer / liquor / coolers for the week. At the port, the luggage people will take your suitcases to your room for you (the ones with the clothes) and then all you will have left over to carry on will be your suitcase with the booze in it. Works well at the end of the cruise / trip as well to bring back any items you may have bought, or simply put one inside the other and return home.

@Chris This sounds like a great idea. Is there a size restriction for the suitcase you bring on with the booze as a carry on?

Not that I’m aware of. We used the smaller of the two we have but it still fit 3 cases of beer into it. (72 cans)

You can do that, but you can also order those at the bar in Cabanas or even the Cove Cafe. It is available during breakfast to answer your question.

Never been on a cruise before so I dont know… do they make more drinks than what is on the menu you attached? It seems most of the cocktails are made with rum… I prefer vodka.. like slings, blue lagoons or daiquaris… will they make those drinks upon request?

Just got back from a Disney Dream cruise and learned a handy lesson. As mentioned here you can use the soda station for ice/mixers near the pool, then take them to your room to add alcohol. For efficiency we put the alcohol in our cups (we purchased insulated Disney Tervis mugs w/ lids on-board, but you could bring your own or use any cup) in our room, then brought it to the pool and got ice and mixers. Technically it’s a violation of policy to consume it outside of your stateroom, but its discrete and we never saw anyone questioned.

Can you drink alcohol you’ve brought on the beach at Castaway Cay?

DCL’s beverage policy states that any alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

This blog is very informative – thanks to the owner and to everyone who has supplied answers! Would someone please address how to pay for drinks onboard? I’m sure they can be charged to rooms, but I’d prefer not to do that. Has anyone had experience with using cash or credit cards at point of service? I intend to purchase Disney gift cards at a discount from Sam’s Club, and they say they can be used on Disney cruises. If I can use them for individual drinks or drink packages, that would be ideal.

Judith, You can pay with Disney Gift Cards on the ships. I believe you can only use credit cards in the gift shops and at Guest Services. The only way to use cash on the ships is to charge to your stateroom and then use the cash at Guest Services to pay on your stateroom account.

From personal experience, it is real simple to pay for everything with your KTTW card and periodically stop by guest services to pay on your account with whichever form of payment you wish to use.

From what I’ve been told, you can go at the end of the week to guest services and use your gift cards to pay off any balance you have. You might want to check with Disney Cruise Line just to be sure, though! 🙂

Stacie, You can purchase the drink of the day in the souvenir cup and use it to get refills for the remainder of the cruise. You will be given a new souvenir mug and charged just for the drink.

Melissa, when you purchase the wine package you are buying a certain number of bottles. If you choose you can consume them all in one night, or spread them out.

Ken, Tea bags are always available at the drink stations and hot water is available from the adjacent coffee machines. Tea bags are also available in the restaurants upon request and near the drink stations in Cabanas and Beach Blanket Buffet.

I’m going on a cruise on the Wonder at the end of the month and I’m wondering how easy it is to keep the “cooling box” cold enough for some beer. Do they have ice machines that you can use to fill it? Or does the room staff keep it cool with ice? And if I book a private shuttle from my hotel to the port in Miami will the driver stop at a liquor store so I can grab some beer? Any company recommendations? Ryan, I have never had an issue keeping my beer cold in the cooling boxes. Just make sure you check the thermostat when you first enter your stateroom. It is not always on the coldest setting.

Cruising on the dream in may. Is there a place to get liquor before getting on the ship? Walking distance after the shutte drops us off?

At this time, there are no places within walking distance to pick up liquor. There is an ABC Fine Wine and Spirits on Merritt Island, but this would require a taxi, or private shuttle service that would be willing to make take you on this errand.

For our cruise in October some of the cruisers used Port Canaveral Liquor shop. They deliver right to the terminal for you. I think they used both email and phone to order.

Yes, you can bring snacks on the ship. I brought a bookbag full of snacks, dried fruit, granola bars, raisins, etc… I like to take them to the island for the kids.

You can set up charging accounts for each if they have separate credit cards on file. I do not believe the gratuities can be split, but you can ask.

We have had member of 2 families in one room, the gratuities are per person so each person’s got charged to their account.

I have read through the comments and didn’t see an answer to this question so I am hoping it is not a repeat question. I understand the Disney Cruise policy for bringing alcohol/water on board the cruise ship with your carry on. However, does anyone know if these beverages need to be able to be actually packed INSIDE of your carry on? Or if I plan to bring a case of beer or a case of water can I just physically carry it in my arms rather than trying to cram it into my bag with my other belongings? Allison, it does not need to be in official luggage. It is preferred that it is concealed in at least a shopping bag.

Scott, the DCL website states the carry -on bags are limited to 22x14x9. How strict are they with the size of the carry -on on bag?

The restriction is based on the port security’s x-ray machine.

Do you know if the x-ray maching will fit a larger bag then? I wasn’t sure if you had seen the machines before.

I know I can bring bottles of wine as a carry on, and bring the entire bottle to dinner and just pay a corking fee.

You can use your own equipment, but you will need to pick up a free inflatable snorkel vest. These vest can either be picked up at the snorkel rental shop or often times you can find them on the lifeguard stands or near the entrance to the snorkel lagoon.

Correct, there is no limit as to how much you can carry on to the ship. I think you get the idea for the other question…

Mike, good question. I would say yes 2 seven bottle packages or a combination of the bottle packages that fits your needs, but I do not know for sure. DCL may offer a customized package for the longer sailings. I will ask around to see if someone can provide a better answer.

Can a box of can drinks be put in checked luggage at the port or do they still need to be in a carryon?

The request to have passengers to carry on liquids is meant to reduce the risk of a damaged container leaking over your luggage and potentially ruining nearby suitcases during their transfer from the terminal to your stateroom. If you have ever looked in the crew elevator areas on the ships the luggage is just piled up and thrown around. I’m sure there is a more legal reason or for your security reason, but here is the verbiage from DCL’s FAQ page…

Please note: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

If I pay for the corkage fee and cannot finish the wine, do I have to pay corkage fee again the second time I bring the same bottle to dinner? What about Palo? Do I pay have to corkage fee again? Scott, do you know anything about the plastic hurricane cups?? Someone had told me you get a discount on drinks if you purchase it. I had never heard of this. Maybe the person was confusing the hurricane cup with the beer mug?? TIA!

Not necessarily a discount, but you can get it refilled. Since the cups hold more you technically get a little more than if you just order the drink without the glass.

No, duty free purchases are delivered to your stateroom on the last night of the cruise. As of September 30, 2015 you will no longer be permitted to bring liquor on board per the new guest alcohol policy .

Yes, if you purchase the drink on board you can walk around with it. There on some caveats such as no glass on the pool deck, but you can get a plastic glass. Additionally, some venues do not want their glassware taken out. For example Key’s has special glasses they want to keep in the venue. Still you can walk around with your beverage of choice purchased onboard.

The Golden Slipper is a specialty cocktail from the Animator’s Palate Menu . It is a combination of Peach Schnapps, Créme de Cassis and Sparkling Wine.

It appears that the cruise line may have increased the prices on the wine packages. According to their gifts & amenities website, it appears that a 3 bottle classic is now $95 while the premium is $145. Maybe it is cheaper on the cruise?

It is included. Hot chocolate is also available at the drink stations in packets by the coffee and tea.

My wife and I plan on bringing 2 bottles of wine each to drink at dinner for our 5 night cruise departing this weekend. Do I put them in our carry on or do I carry them loose in a separate bag? Also do you think they would have an issue if I bring a fifth bottle of wine since it’s a 5 night cruise? Thanks

You can put them in your carry on luggage. The rule is 2 bottles of wine or a 6-pack of beer per person. You can however buy more in a port of call.

It is ok to bring your refillable mugs from a Disney resort or waterpark to use for sodas? Also is there anywhere to get decent free coffee or should I just pay for a latte? Thanks!

Jen, Absolutely you can use your own refillable mugs. I always travel with a Tervis for this reason. Just make sure you fill your mug using one of the disposable cups at the drink station. I realize this is wasteful, but it is the rule (signs are posted) to prevent any contamination of the drink station. You will also find coffee, tea and hot chocolate at the drink station on the pool deck. Additionally, there are self service drink stations in Cabanas during operating hours.

After reading this and the DCL website I’m guessing the alcohol carry-on rules have changed? In earlier comments you said if we can carry it we can bring it (including liquor) but the website says only beer and wine in limited amounts. Did the policy change or do they just not really enforce it?

I have been on the Disney cruise a few times but it was years ago. Do the mini fridges work well in the cabins? If I read correctly they have no actual refrigeration? Are there mini bars available for the rooms?

Mark, I’ve not had a problem keeping liquids cold. It does take some time for the items to cool, but it does a decent enough job. There are no mini bars in the staterooms.

Just ask your stateroom host for ice.

Can u somehow sneak hard liquor on the ship. Like using rum runners plastics containers. Going on fantasy in a few weeks

I am going in September and have wondered the same thing 🙂 I was going to perhaps try using shampoo bottles in my luggage since I imagine they don’t open them to make sure it’s really shampoo? perhaps put a liner inside them and put them in large ziplock bags the way I would if I was flying normally to avoid them exploding on my clothes. I’m disappointed that they changed the policy. Even if I manage to get booze on board, I will still likely spend more than I should on the specialty drinks.

Can you get the souvenir hurricane-style cups filled up in the main dining rooms with the drink of the day? Do they offer the drink of the day even if you cannot get the cup filled?

We are doing the 3 night Bahamas cruise, I gather we can take two bottles of wine six beers on board each person. When we stop at Bahamas are we allowed to bring more wine on and drink it?

Guest services told me just now that hard cider was specifically prohibited. Has anyone had any success bringing it on? I can’t drink beer or wine.

We just did the Fantasy in August and the only thing you could bring to your room was wine. Two bottles per adult. Anything else is checked and you pick it back up just before you leave the ship or its destroyed.

You can bring the club soda onboard with you in your carry on.

If my family is going on a cruise together and we are allowed 16 bottles all together. Can we bring that all onboard in a big box/cooler or do we need to each carry our own 2 individually?

To make it easier I’d suggest having each person carry 2 bottles, but if you find it easier just make sure you are all together and kindly explain it was just easier to them all together and this is our entire party.

I just went in August. I put four bottles in the same bag for my wife and I when we got on and at the ports. We got some great wine in Mexico at the Mega store and the wi e we bought in the Caymans was bad. Could t even drink it. Good stuff in the Port at Jamaica as well. I believe the pre-orders are delivered to your stateroom. Although, I am not sure if it works the same as it does with bottled water.

Scott, they are sent to your room. Remember you can bring on (in your carry on) 2 six packs per adult when you board and each stop. Those pre orders are pretty pricey.

Hi, we’re returning to the DCL in March and know that the alcohol policy has changed since we last cruised. When we were last on, we purchased the discounted refillable drink cup, do you know if we bring them back if they still offer a discount on those? (similar to the beer mug, but a daiquiri cup.)

The DCL beer mug and multi color plastic hurricane glasses are still being used on the ships.

All drink purchases are charged to your stateroom account. You can always to guest services and pay on your account using cash.

Scott is correct. Your boarding pass is used for all on-board purchases. Keep in mind that an automatic gratuity is added on to any alcoholic purchase.

The drink of the day is $4.75, the non-alcoholic drinks are $4.25. Both have a 15% auto gratuity.

Smirnoff Ice would be included in the beer category, Smirnoff vodka would be liquor.

My question is regarding the private open bar smoothie option. I’ve read that guests get a smoothie upon arrival to the hour long event but that the smoothies are all premade so after that first smoothie, they can’t go to the bar and order a second, third and so on. It’s anhour long event. Is the above info correct? If so, why can’t they order additional smoothies since it’s supposed to be unlimited? Thanks

The corkage fee is for bringing your own bottle of wine (that you carried on the ship) into the restaurants.

Can I bring my own plastic mug onboard?

Yes, but you will need to fill it using the disposable cups at the drink station. It is wasteful for sure, but if a CDC inspector sees anyone filling reusing or filling a reusable cup they can penalize the ship and it would be a negative on the inspection.

DCL does not currently track if you purchase the mug on each cruise. As a result, if you hand the bartender your mug they will fill it just as if you purchased it on the voyage.

It varies based on which beer you request, but it would be the 16oz cost as if you were ordering them a la carte at the bar.

On our recent Med cruise, we were allowed to bring wine and beer that we had purchased in ports of call back on to the ship to our staterooms. They only confiscated liquor and you had to reclaim it at Keys upon disembarkation.

Love your blog! We’re going on a DLC this winter and I wonder if my 18 year old can pack wine in her carryon? In other words do they verify you’re 21 if you bring alcohol on the ship?

We tend to pack our carry on and checked luggage family style where all bags have a mix. There have been times due to space, our daughter’s carry-on bag had a bottle of wine because it wouldn’t fit in my bag. If you are tying to extend your carry-on allowance, that isn’t going to work. However, I’ve never witnessed security checking guest’s IDs when checking carry-on beer & wine.

Disney Cruise Line – Can You Really Take Alcohol Onboard?

Disney Cruise Line has a relatively liberal policy that allows guests to bring a limited amount of alcohol onboard their ships.

It used to be even more flexible. Up until September 2015, there was no limit on how much alcohol you could bring on a Disney cruise.

It isn’t quite that generous now, but the Disney Cruise Line Alcohol Policy is still pretty generous compared to other major cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line.

However, those days are long gone and you need to be aware of the Disney cruise line rules about bringing alcohol on board the ship.

Most cruise lines do not allow this as of course, they want to sell you their, usually highly-priced, alcohol.

Many cruise lines will confiscate any alcohol found in your bags at embarkation.

What is the Disney Cruise Alcohol Policy?

Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage.

For cruises from Australia and New Zealand guests aged 18 and over also have this allowance. This means that the 18 to 20 years olds can also take advantage of the allowance.

You can also bring on the same amount at each port-of-call for a Disney Cruise.

This means that you can bring more than the initial 2 bottles that you are allowed to carry on to the ship on embarkation day as you can also bring your allowance at each port of call.

What Kind of Alcohol is Allowed?

The wording of the Disney policy specifies only wine, champagne, or beer.

The previous rules allowed you to bring any type of alcohol. However, you certainly aren’t going to be able to sneak a bottle of hard liquor on board these days!

If you are caught trying to do this, and you will be caught, it will be confiscated and given back to you at the end of the cruise.

However, in practice, there is some leeway with the “beer” that you are allowed to bring. So there is no problem bringing cider, for instance.

If the alcohol that you are trying to bring in place of beer has a similar alcohol content to beer then it is likely to be allowed – although this is up to the discretion of the particular security officer involved at the time.

There won’t be a problem either if you bring sparkling wine instead of a bottle of champagne. No one is going to check the vintage!

Everything has to be in its unopened original container. This doesn’t mean that you can’t mix and match beers. You can do that. All the bottles or cans have to be unopened but it doesn’t matter if you don’t carry the in the original 6 pack box.

How Do I Carry the Alcohol?

All alcohol must be packed in your carry-on baggage.

Any alcohol found in checked baggage will be removed and confiscated. You will not get it back at the end of the cruise.

Don’t think that you can sneak alcohol onto a cruise.

They will find it! And you will lose it.

Carry-on luggage and checked luggage go through an x-ray machine and it will be found.

The main reason that Disney doesn’t want you to put alcohol in checked baggage is that bottles can break and ruin not only your luggage but other passengers’ luggage. These are fragile items and this is why they should only be packed in carry-on luggage.

If you are traveling by air to your Disney cruise port you may not have time to pick up some bottles of wine. If you want to bring wine you will have to put it in checked luggage on the airplane.

Just remember to get them out and put them in hand luggage when you board your Disney cruise.

Can I Bring Non-Alcoholic Drinks on Board?

You can bring as many soft drinks, water bottles, and non-alcoholic beverages as many as you can carry.

But always put it in carry-on luggage. If it is found in your checked luggage it will be confiscated.

Remember that your staterooms will not be ready until 1.30 pm so you will have to carry around whatever you bring in carry-on luggage – so don’t overload yourself too much!

Where Can I Drink What I Have Brought With Me?

The rules have always said that you can only consume alcohol you bring onto a Disney cruise yourself in your stateroom.

This will not change.

There always have been, and probably always will be those who take alcohol into bars and restaurants.

If you want to drink wine or champagne that they have brought on board in one of the dining rooms will be charged a corking fee of $27.00 per bottle. This corkage fee has recently increased from $25.

A Disney cruise just doesn’t have the emphasis on drinking that some other cruise lines have.

We have sailed on many Disney cruises and can’t remember having ever seen anyone intoxicated. The same cannot be said of other cruise lines we have sailed with!

Is There a Drinks Package?

Disney Cruise Line does not have a “conventional” drinks package like many of the other cruise lines do.

Many guests, including myself, really don’t want Disney to introduce a drinks package of the type that others have.

I know this is a controversial subject but I am just not a fan of all the all-inclusive alcohol drinks packages on some cruise lines.

This can create an all-you-can-drink mentality that you don’t want on a Disney cruise.

Disney does have:

• A Wine Package
• A 5 for 6 Beers Package
• A Beer Mug Token System

The Wine Package allows you to buy several wine bottles, between 3 and 7 for you to enjoy in the main dining room or adult only restaurants on your cruise.

There are two wine packages that you can purchase – The Classic and the Premium Package.

Each night you can choose as many bottles as you want from either the Classic or if you have paid the extra, the Premium Package.

If you do not drink the whole bottle in an evening then it will be saved for you and brought to your table for the next evening.

If you have any unopened bottles at the end of your cruise you can carry them off with you (subject to local customs allowances).

If you prefer beer then you may be interested in the souvenir beer mug. For $16.95 you can buy a 22 oz. Disney Cruise Line. souvenir glass beer mug. This will be filled with the beer of your choice.

The usual glass sizes are 16 oz, so if you get a refill you are getting an extra 6 oz each time at no extra cost. You don’t have to keep using the same glass. Just ask your bartender for a beer mug token and you can exchange this every time for clean glass.

You can also take the beer glass home with you at the end of your cruise as a souvenir.

Note that the beer glass is not transferable from one cruise to another. If you sail again, you will have to buy a new beer glass.

Disney Cruise Line Alcohol Policy – Duty-Free On Board And Alcohol Purchased In Port

If you buy alcohol on a shore excursion Disney will also allow you to bring this on board, but only beer and wine subject to the general rules.

If you want to search out 2 bottles of wine or some beer on your port time then it doesn’t seem like Disney wants to stop you.

You can also buy other alcohol on shore, but it will be held for you and given back at the end of the cruise.

If you buy alcohol in the duty-free store on board you will not be allowed to take it to your stateroom but it will be given to you on disembarkation.

Who Can Bring Alcohol Onboard?

There are different rules according to where in the world the Disney ship is sailing.

All of this applies only to guests aged over 21 if your cruise originates in a North American port.

All guests on the Disney Cruise Line must be aged 21 or over to be served alcohol.

The exception to this rule is on sailings that embark and disembark in a port in Europe, Australia or New Zealand.

On these sailings, you can be served alcohol if aged 18 and over, and a beverage consumption form was completed when you checked in.

What Alcoholic Drinks are Included on a Disney Cruise?

Never say nothing in life is free.

Well, it isn’t free as you have paid for your cruise but you will get free drinks at the Captain’s Reception held on a formal night on cruises of 7 nights and over (so most cruises are excluded).

Sometimes it is served at a Castaway Cay Club Members reception and Disney Vacation Club presentations.

However, on the recent DVC presentations, we have gone to this seems to be a thing of the past. Now you get a bottle of water and sometimes not even that!

Q: May Guests bring alcohol onboard?

A: Effective for cruises embarking on or after September 30, 2015, Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port-of-call.

Guests wishing to consume wine or champagne that they have brought on board in one of the dining rooms will be charged a corking fee of $25.00 per bottle. Please note:

• These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage.
• Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and stored until the end of the cruise.
• Any wine or champagne in excess of 2 bottles or beer in excess of 6 beers will be stored until the end of the cruise.
• Bringing liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) on board is prohibited. These items will be stored until the end of the cruise.
• Guest MUST retrieve any stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. Items not retrieved will be destroyed, and no compensation will be offered.

Hi there! Stupid question........but, I understand that an adult can bring 6 beers onto the ship. I am not much of a drinker and do not like traditional beer. Does anyone know if wine coolers are under the policy of beer. The bottles say "flavored beer" on it.

You can bring two bottles of wine per person over 21 years aboard.

if they are wine bottle shape, then you should be fine and most likely will not check.

Otherwise, it will depend on the CM's on the day.

Not sure if it got mentioned before, but we just got back from sailing NCL out of PC last week. On our shuttle ride to our ship we stopped by DCL first. They have a large sign, in typical fancy DCL style, right at the gate before they let you in (right after porters) that spell out what is allowed, what will happen to the other stuff.

Glass bottles are allowed onboard, so not sure why albeachrealtor would raise that as a point?

Glass is frowned upon on the pool deck and at Castaway Cay, but since all alcoholic beverages brought onboard MUST be consumed in your Stateroom, that should not be a problem ;)

I called Disney Cruise line last week and got a supervisor (who was handling overflow calls) and they told me that "Cider" is not consider "Beer" (despite same bottles and alcohol content) and would not be allowed.

I am not sure if that is being enforced at the port, but that was what I was told.

I am pretty disappointed in the policy changes mainly because I like to shop and try liquor from the places with Port, but I regularly buy beer and spirits on board. Havana club us the biggest loss (not that they have too many good products).

Their old policy was something I considered in the "plus" column for the Disney Cruise Line.

No and No unfortunately if the policy is followed.

Hard Mikes is not beer even if it does contain malt liquor, and the champagne allowance is for 2 bottles up to 750ml each, not 1.5 liters of champagne.

So we aren't allowed to buy liquor in port? This is a bit confusing! I realize it must be stored and claimed at the end of the cruise. Of course, we are only on a 3 night cruise, and only disembarking at CC...so it isn't much if an issue this time, but may persuade us to cruise on other cruise lines for longer cruises in the future.

You may buy liquor in port, but just like duty free liquor sales, they will be held until the end of the cruise for you to collect.

DCL do not permit you to bring or consume your own bought hard liquor in your Stateroom or elsewhere aboard.

You may bring aboard 2 bottles of wine or champagne (max 750ml per bottle) OR 6 12oz beers per person aged 21 and over at the beginning of the cruise and again at each port stop thereafter.

Does the wine have to be in a bottle? Could we bring "boxed" wine (Black Box, Bota Box etc)? They come in 500ml.

I'd imagine that was fine. It's the amount, not the vessel. Interesting story... We had two bottles in paper in a Target bag. My wife went through without me - I was out in the parking garage. They didn't inspect the bottles at all or care that it was just her with two bottles.

Ummm....the rule is 2 bottles per person not to exceed 750ml. each. There is no reason for them to have a problem with your wife having 2 bottles. As a couple, you were entitled to bring a total of 4 bottles.

There is really no reason to bring boxed wine (unless that is your preferred kind) but stick to the quantities that they allow. Keep in mind that with Disney, you can bring beer/wine back on the ship at each port. So, bring your good bottles day one, and then buy more in port and bring it back to the boat. :)

What’s Coming to Disney Experiences in 2024 and Beyond

“It’s something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing, keep plussing and adding to. It’s alive. It will be a live breathing thing that will need change.”

Walt Disney’s words about Disneyland have remained a guiding principle for the Disney Experiences segment since they were first uttered roughly 70 years ago. The summer of 2024 is just the latest example of Disney expanding its present and building towards a great, big, beautiful tomorrow.

Here’s a look at some of the latest Disney Experiences developments from all around the globe:

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

On June 28, guests at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida will return to the New Orleans of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ The Princess and the Frog to float along on a musical journey in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure .

The all-new attraction picks up after the events of the 2009 film, where visitors experience an adventure through the bayou as Princess Tiana prepares to host a Mardi Gras celebration.

Guests will encounter dozens of technologically advanced Audio-Animatronic figures during their ride, including beloved characters like Princess Tiana, Louis, and Mama Odie, along with new critters and characters. New arrangements of songs from the film — and a new original tune — will serenade guests as they make their way towards a 50-foot drop.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will also open later this year at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California.

Fantasy Springs

Fantasy Springs — the eighth themed port at Tokyo DisneySea Park — welcomes guests on June 6.

It brings to life new areas inspired by three of Disney Animation’s most beloved films — Rapunzel’s Forest from 2010’s Tangled , Peter Pan’s Never Land from 1953’s Peter Pan , and Frozen Kingdom from the 2013 blockbuster, Frozen .

Fantasy Springs finds itself nestled between Tokyo DisneySea’s Lost River Delta and the Arabian Coast areas and the new port will be an entryway for guests into the magical worlds of these films.

Each will include innovative attractions, stunning restaurants, and the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel.

Setting Sail

Disney Cruise Line is looking to bring enjoyment to guests by sea and by land this year.

In June, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , Disney Cruise Line’s newest tropical retreat opens on the island of Eleuthera, The Bahamas.

The destination celebrates the rich culture and natural beauty of The Bahamas, with signature Disney entertainment, port adventures and nature trails, a water play area and beautiful beaches, including a dedicated beach for adults. The retreat will feature a plethora of activities for the whole family to enjoy.

As Disney Cruise Line looks to add three new ships to its fleet through 2025, its latest vessel, Disney Treasure , is also set to take its maiden voyage on December 21.

Reimagined Classics

One of the very last attractions that Walt Disney personally helped develop, the Country Bear Musical Jamboree , is undergoing a refresh that will open this summer.

While the Country Bear Musical Jamboree will include call backs, the bears will sing new, reinterpreted Disney tunes in different genres of country music – like bluegrass, pop-country, Americana, rockabilly and other styles.

On May 24, Disneyland Resort guests will once again be able to enjoy the dazzling special effects of Fantasmic! As the beloved show makes its epic return.

And on June 10, EPCOT at Walt Disney World will welcome guests to CommuniCore Hall and Plaza . The Hall and Plaza are flexible multi-use event spaces that bring exhibitions, entertainment and even more culinary delights to the center of EPCOT.

Fan-Favorite Festivals and Events

And of course, there are always the seasonal festivals and events that offer a unique spin on a Disney parks visit.

• From August 9 to October 31, families can delight in the frightful fun of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party .
• EPCOT guests can taste their way around the world at the International Food & Wine Festival , from August 29 to November 23.
• And currently, fans can see the worlds of Pixar come alive at Pixar Fest at Disneyland. Running from April 26 through August 4, guests of all ages can celebrate with daytime parades, nighttime spectaculars, and encounters with their favorite Pixar characters.

Beyond 2024

And that’s just this year .

Going forward, Disney fans can keep an eye out for updates on DisneylandForward , which includes a planned Avatar Experience at Disneyland.

There’s also fresh expansions coming to the Magic Kingdom, exploring the Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom , more cruise ships with their own unique themes, an ongoing effort to reimagine Disneyland Paris , a newly rebuilt Space Mountain at Tokyo Disney Resort in 2027, and much more.

The Walt Disney Company announced last year that it is developing plans to accelerate and expand investment in its Parks, Experiences and Products segment to nearly double capital expenditures over the course of approximately 10 years to roughly $60 billion.

So, with plenty happening across the globe now and through the next decade, Disney Experiences is as alive as Walt could’ve ever hoped it would be.

A “Happy Birthday” door decoration featuring Mickey, Minnie, and more of your Disney faves greet your birthday guest, and of course, it is nautical-themed!

Next, you are greeted by this adorable, “Happy Birthday” banner complete with Mickey balloons, confetti, and nautical-inspired Goofy, Donald, and Pluto!

A “celebrate” banner hangs along the back of the room, and how cute are the decorations on the bed? The birthday theme carries all the way through the room.

The pillows feature special decor and a “celebrate today” birthday blanket covers the bed! The decorations are vibrant and feature twinkling, stars, fireworks, and celebratory fun.

Here is another great look at the decorations. They are perfectly festive!

The Birthday Celebration Room is a special occasion add-on that you reserve in advance, and it’s available on all Disney Cruise Line ships.

Simply, log in to My Reservations , select “Special Requests,” and fill out the Special Request form. Orders must be received at least 48 hours prior to departure.

DCL also offers a variety of flowers, chocolates, and sparkling wine that can be delivered to your stateroom, as well as specially-themed packages that can add to the special celebration!

What age must a Guest be to drink alcoholic beverages on the ship?

The drinking age on board is 21, and a valid photo I.D. is required.

However, during round-trip cruises departing from any European country that has a lower drinking age, parents or guardians may sign a Beverage Consent Form that allows their 18- to 20-year-old children to consume alcoholic beverages while in the adult’s presence.

In addition, for round-trip cruises from Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Brisbane, Guests 18 years of age and older may purchase and consume alcoholic beverages without parental consent. For repositioning cruises between Hawai'i and Australia, parents or guardians may sign a Beverage Consent Form that allows their 18- to 20-year-old children to consume alcoholic beverages while in the adult’s presence.

• All Guests must comply with all laws and Disney Cruise Line policies related to the consumption and distribution of alcohol. Guests are prohibited from providing alcoholic beverages to any other person, regardless of age.
• This policy is subject to change without notice.

We’re Live from Disney’s NEW Lookout Cay Private Cruise Port!

This new paradise in the Bahamas was announced a while ago and finally opens THIS SUMMER! We got to check out the new area early , and of course we want to take you along with us. Let’s dig into the activities, port adventures, beaches, and FOOD offered at Lookout Cay.

What Is Lookout Cay?

Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is Disney’s new cruise port destination ! It’s located on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas, and it’s opening this summer (2024). This is Disney’s second cruise destination in the Bahamas (the other one is Castaway Cay).

The  Disney Magic, Disney Dream , and  Disney Fantasy cruise ships will all offer trips to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point starting in the summer of 2024. Here’s a look at which cruises are going to stop at this new destination:

Disney Magic itineraries sailing to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point:

• 3-night Lighthouse Point Preview sailing from Port Canaveral, FL (June 6th – 9th, 2024)
• 3-night, 4-night, and 5-night Bahamian sailings from Fort Lauderdale, FL

Disney Dream itineraries sailing to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point:

• 3-night sailings from Fort Lauderdale, FL
• 4-night and 5-night Bahamian sailings from Fort Lauderdale, FL

Disney Fantasy itineraries sailing to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point:

• 7-night Lighthouse Point Inaugural sailing from Port Canaveral, FL (June 8th – 15th, 2024)

Arriving at the New Port Destination

When you get to Lookout Cay, you’ll first find Mabrika Cove , which is the arrival point. According to Disney, “‘Mabrika’ means ‘welcome’ in Taino, the language of the Lucayans, who are considered the indigenous people of The Bahamas.” The pier is about a half-mile long, and takes about 15 minutes to walk.

Disney told us they made the pier lengthy to disturb less of the shoreline.

The Beaches

Lookout Cay has a few different beaches. You’ll find a family beach on the east side of the island, with activities and other amenities.

Separate from the main family area, there will also be a  peaceful beach with 20 premium family cabanas  available to rent (four of which are double cabanas for larger groups). Those double cabanas will also offer massage services for a little extra pampering!

Like Castaway Cay, Lookout Cay will have its own  adult-exclusive beach (north of the family area) called Serenity Bay . It will include a dedicated dining area and six private cabanas (which you can reserve), and it will be exclusive to guests 18 years old and older.

Dining at Lookout Cay

At Lookout Cay, you can grab a bite to eat at the market-style dining spot, True-True Too BBQ , a seashell-inspired restaurant with shaded pavilion seating. There is also the Serenity Bay BBQ in the adults-only area.

There are also a variety of bars at Lookout Cay — including Mangroves and Go.

Activities and Adventures

There is a LOT to do at Lookout Cay. You can stop by the Bahamian art and culture pavilion  —  The Goombay Cultural Center — where you’ll find special programs and local artists offering learning opportunities to passengers.

Triton’s Trumpet Stage  is a center for family entertainment. The name of the gazebo is inspired by both the king from  The Little Mermaid and one of the natural wonders found on Bahamian beaches: “a large, spiraled seashell commonly called ‘Triton’s Trumpet.'”

There is also an interactive family water play area  with slides, water drums, and more.  Toddlers  even have their own dedicated space.

Kids ages 3 through 12 have their own themed Kids’ Club on the island where they can play under the supervision of Disney Cruise Line counselors. There is a splash pad area inspired by The Little Mermaid  and a dedicated dining area.

Other activities on the island include:

• a covered gaming pavilion;
• a volleyball court;
• a gaga ball pit;
• watercraft and bike rentals; and
• nature trails that you can hike or bike

The Disney Cruise Line website lists all the available port adventures for Lookout Cay in The Bahamas. Here’s the full list of options for things you can book for your cruise:

Silver Castaway Club members can book 90 days in advance, Gold Castaway Club members can book 105 days in advance, and Platinum Castaway Club members and Concierge Guests can book 120 days in advance.

The  Treasure of Eleuthera gift shop has “locally made gifts and artisan crafts.” The shop spotlights “Bahamian artists through an array of unique items.”

That pier is a long bridge. I hope Disney has tram service to the island from the ship. Castaway Cay has a better first impression because when you exit the ship, you are stepping onto the island. The walk to the beach is tropical and scenic, with photo opportunities as you go, or you can use the tram service that Disney offers from the ship to the beach. But I still look forward to visiting Disney’s new island Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
