In our opinion,  you should always book a Disney cruise with a third-party travel agency or site that provides a bonus or discount . The extra onboard credit or discount is effectively FREE money. The primary question is whether you prefer to handle your bookings directly ( self-service ), or work with a personal agent ( full-service ). They’re both good options and they both offer essentially similar savings: one via their own extra-discounted fares and the other via FREE onboard credit.

Booking a Disney Cruise With a Self-Service Site

Our pick for self-service booking is Undercover Tourist . We’ve recommended them for more than a decade as a fantastic source for tickets, but they also have impressive deals on Disney cruises. Unlike other self-booking options like Expedia or Priceline, Undercover Tourist adds an additional discount over and above any special pricing Disney offers (like restricted guarantee , Military , or Florida resident rates)! We know of no other site that adds their own discounts to the baseline fare for Disney cruises. Occasionally one of the big online travel sites will do a limited-time small onboard credit or in-room gift, but Undercover Tourist offers extra discounts , on every Disney cruise, every day. Undercover Tourist further guarantees to MouseSavers readers that you will always get their lowest possible prices when booking through our links here and through our monthly newsletter and Hot Deals emails.

Keep in mind that this is a self-service option , for people who know exactly what cruise they want to take, what stateroom, how dining works, etc. If you like to handle your own bookings directly, Undercover Tourist is a great choice. If you would like to have a personal agent who can help guide you through the decision process and be available to answer questions, then the full-service approach will be a better fit.

Booking a Disney Cruise With a Full-Service Agent

The benefits of using a top travel agent are significant, both in convenience and price. First off, the best travel agents give you onboard credit, which is effectively FREE money, since the cruise fare isn’t any higher than if you booked through Disney. Furthermore, Disney Cruise Line has lots of confusing options involving tradeoffs that aren’t always clear. Using an experienced travel agent is like getting a FREE expert who knows everything about the Disney Cruise Line and is happy to walk you through the process and offer advice.

The travel agency we personally recommend here on MouseSavers.com, Small World Vacations , has some of the most experienced agents in the industry . The agents who handle cruise bookings for Small World have been on multiple Disney cruises, and know a truly astonishing amount about all four ships, the various Disney ports of call and all the common itineraries (and many uncommon ones). Many of them are Platinum members of Disney’s Castaway Club, meaning that they have personally been on 10 or more Disney cruises! They each have a direct phone number and email address they give out to their clients, so you can email them questions or requests any time.

Small World Vacations offers an onboard credit of up to $1,000 when you book a Disney Cruise with them. (Credit depends on your total cruise fare; the minimum fare to get credit is $1000.) Your onboard credit is good toward anything you can charge to your room, such as spa treatments, special dining, shore excursions or even your bar tab! Plus, this onboard credit offer is on top of any other discounts for which you may qualify (like restricted guarantee , Military , or Florida resident rates). And perhaps most importantly, the Small World Vacations agents know how to maximize value by making use of tricks like secret porthole rooms , secret verandah rooms , secret connecting rooms , and other clever strategies.

We pretty rarely encounter a deal that qualifies as a “no brainer,” but this is absolutely one, because it’s effectively FREE money . Small World Vacations’ fares are exactly the same as Disney’s; there are no other hidden markups or extra fees. The onboard credit is a bonus you won’t get booking with Disney.

Finally, if you’re going on a Disney cruise, be sure you take advantage of the onboard booking discount and list Small World Vacations as your preferred travel agent (or transfer the booking to Small World Vacations after your cruise is over), because it’s an essentially risk-free way to get significant discounts from Disney plus onboard credit from Small World Vacations in one fell swoop on a future cruise.

If you have any questions about onboard booking, email your questions directly to Small World Vacations at [email protected] before you leave on your cruise, and mention that you heard about onboard booking on MouseSavers.com. In our experience, the travel agents at Small World Vacations are great at finding the best fares. They know all the tricks that will save you money, and they know the Disney Cruise Line inside and out. We’re confident that once you work with a really great travel agent, you’ll never want to book a cruise any other way.

  • Learn more about the Small World Vacations onboard credit offer and request a price quote for your Disney cruise .
  • Small World Vacations gives you full service , including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number, and we recommend them wholeheartedly ! Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them, PLUS they give you FREE onboard credit for any Disney Cruise Line booking of over $1000 total fare!

Onboard credit is cash value linked to your stateroom account on the ship, which you can spend by using your room key to pay for pretty much anything on the ship or on Castaway Cay. Onboard credit can be used for merchandise, adult beverages, bottled water, spa treatments, shore excursions, Palo, Remy, Palo Steakhouse or Enchanté meals, and other onboard activities, or even applied to gratuities for your servers and stateroom attendant.

Small World Vacations Onboard Credit

The travel agency we personally recommend here on MouseSavers.com, Small World Vacations , offers an onboard credit of $50 – $1000 when you book through them. (Credit depends on your total cruise fare; the minimum fare to get credit is $1000.) To learn more, visit the Small World Vacations website , where you can see full details about the onboard credit offer and request a quote on your cruise vacation .

Last-Minute Restricted Stateroom Discounts

Restricted Guarantee fares, when offered, are a great way to save if you are flexible about your stateroom location and willing to book “last minute,” usually meaning 21-75 days prior to departure. The savings can be very large, but you won’t know your exact stateroom at booking time. Disney guarantees you will get at least the stateroom type specified, and you could get assigned a higher level. You usually will get an actual stateroom assignment about 14 days before embarkation, but it could be assigned as late as the embarkation day.

There are complicated rules for Restricted Guarantee bookings ; be sure to read them if you’re not already familiar with them. The “Restricted Guarantee” room categories are offered on select sailings. The categories are:

  • Guaranteed Inside Stateroom with Restrictions (category IGT) – Guarantees an inside or better stateroom (minimum category 11C)
  • Guaranteed Oceanview Stateroom with Restrictions (category OGT) – Guarantees an oceanview or better stateroom (minimum category 9D)
  • Guaranteed Verandah Stateroom with Restrictions (category VGT) – Guarantees a verandah or better stateroom (minimum category 7A)

New! As of June 1, 2024, the following cruises had availability in the Restricted Guarantee categories . Prices given are lowest available fares for a single stateroom, in US dollars, including taxes, fees and port expenses, rounded to the nearest dollar. All sailings are from Port Canaveral unless noted otherwise.

General Notes:

  • A single guest gets charged essentially the same price as two guests. (Cruises are generally priced for a minimum of two guests per cabin.)
  • 5-passenger rooms are not available with this discount .
  • These discounts come and go as room inventory for a cruise changes. If you check for one and it doesn’t come up, it may come back. It’s worth checking back a few times over the next day or two to see if the discount becomes available again.
  • If a price isn’t listed, that doesn’t mean the category is completely sold out , just that it isn’t available with this discount.

Select number of guests to see total sailing price (for one stateroom):

  • If you are interested in booking one of these special restricted last-minute rates , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . We have worked with both companies for over 15 years and can recommend them wholeheartedly. It’s really a question of whether you prefer full-service booking or self booking. These staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.
  • Small World Vacations is a full service agency, offering a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number. It costs you nothing to use them, PLUS their FREE onboard credit offer applies to these special fares (the total cruise fare for the stateroom must be at least $1000 to get their onboard credit).
  • Undercover Tourist is a self-service booking site similar to Expedia or Priceline, but with years of focus on the Disney travel market. They offer the special rates mentioned above PLUS they add their own discounts.

Important details you need to know about Restricted Guarantee fares:

  • Can be combined with the Small World Vacations onboard credit offer as well as Undercover Tourist’s own bonus discounts.
  • Cannot be combined with any other Disney discount or promotional offers.
  • The specific stateroom is assigned by Disney, generally within a week of cruise departure. You cannot select a stateroom number or make special requests as to stateroom location.
  • If you book two or more Restricted Guarantee staterooms, there is no way to ensure that they are near each other, or even on the same deck. Disney will put the rooms as close together as they can, but sometimes they just don’t have any rooms left that are near each other.
  • Applies to new bookings only. Existing reservations cannot be modified to these new categories.
  • Full payment is due at time of booking. Booking holds are not permitted.
  • Reservation is non-refundable . (This only applies to situations where you cancel the cruise. If Disney cancels the cruise, for example because of pandemic restrictions, you will get a refund.)
  • Reservation and applied payment are non-transferable .
  • Full legal names and birthdates for all stateroom occupants are required at time of booking.
  • Name changes after booking are not allowed .
  • Sail date, stateroom category and cruise itinerary changes are not allowed .
  • You can book a maximum of four people per stateroom on a Restricted Guarantee booking.
  • There is typically more availability for three or fewer guests per room. All Disney Cruise staterooms can hold three guests, but only some can hold four.
  • If you’re looking for these cruise fares on Disney’s web site, look for fares labeled “Guaranteed Inside Stateroom with Restrictions” or similar for Oceanview or Verandah. The key words are “…with restrictions.”

The one major change that you can make after booking: additional guests can be added to a stateroom, subject to space restrictions. Restrictions and booking rules are subject to change.

If you are going on a Disney cruise and think there is any chance you or a friend or relative may want to go on another Disney cruise in the next 24 months, be sure to book a future cruise while you are still onboard the ship . Disney has one of the most generous onboard booking programs in the cruise industry, and it’s a great way to get a discount and lower deposit on a future Disney cruise. When you book a future cruise while still onboard the ship you get all of the following benefits:

  • A 10% discount on the final cruise fare (with some blackout dates ; see below). Does not apply to Concierge bookings.
  • A lower deposit requirement of only 10% on 7+ night cruises (regular deposit requirement is 20%). Does not apply to Concierge bookings.
  • If you booked your current cruise with Small World Vacations and also use them as your agent for the future cruise , you’ll also get half their normal onboard credit . (Note that if you didn’t book your current cruise with Small World Vacations, the onboard booking agents may not let you add Small World as your agent while onboard. In that case, you would have to transfer your booking to Small World after you get home, but you would still be eligible for half their normal credit.)

You can book either a specific cruise or a “placeholder” cruise. A placeholder lets you make a booking without picking a specific cruise. It can be associated with a specific cruise later, after you get home and decide. To book a specific cruise onboard, you put down a deposit of 10% or 20% of the whole fare, depending on the length of the cruise. To book a placeholder, you put down a flat $250 deposit per future stateroom. When you change a placeholder to a specific cruise booking you’ll have to pay any increase in deposit. Keep in mind, there is an advantage to booking a specific cruise as early as possible: you lock in the rate. So, if there is a cruise you might want to take, it’s a good idea to book that specific cruise rather than a placeholder. Even if you’re not 100% sure that’s your perfect cruise, remember you can change it later with no penalty.

If you ultimately decide not to take a cruise, Disney will refund 100% of your deposit or placeholder payment . You always get a 100% refund as long as you haven’t passed the penalty date (120-75 days from sailing, depending on the cruise), and you didn’t book a concierge room or suite. There’s basically no risk, though it does tie up some deposit money while you think about your options.

You can change almost every aspect of your booking as many times as you need to and still keep the benefits . The name of one adult in each stateroom must stay the same, but you can change the names of any of the other guests, or increase or reduce the number of guests. You can change the stateroom category. You can change the ship or the sailing as long as the sail date is within 24 months of the initial booking date. If you end up changing to a more expensive booking, you’ll need to make up the difference between your original deposit and the new deposit. Keep in mind that if you later add a guest to a stateroom, they will get added at current rates, not at your initial booking rates. For the lowest final price and most flexibility, it’s a good idea to make the initial booking with everyone who might go, rather than only the people you know are going to go.

You get the full discount for up to two future staterooms or placeholders per household (i.e. per mailing address). Once you leave the ship, you can’t book more , so we recommend booking two (or more) every time, if you can afford to tie up the deposit money. If you later decide that you want to bring another family along, or put the kids in their own stateroom, you’ll be glad to have two rooms booked with the discount.

You can get the full discount for friends or relatives who are not sailing on your cruise. You’ll need your friends’ full legal names (as written on their passport) and their birth dates. Under the current rules, the first stateroom or placeholder you book with this discount on the future cruise needs to include at least one adult who is on the current cruise, in addition to anyone else you want to add, and then the second stateroom can have anyone in it. For example, say you wanted to book a cruise for your friends, the Smith family. You could book one room for your own family, then book the second room (on the same cruise) for the Smith family.

If you already have a future cruise booked, you can usually “re-shop” your existing booking and get the discount. However, you basically have to make a new booking and cancel the old one, and the price might have gone up since you booked originally, potentially wiping out your discount. Be sure to compare the bottom-line price for both bookings.

A few other terms & conditions:

  • There is no discount or lower deposit for 1- or 2-night sailings, IGT, OGT and VGT Restricted Guarantee bookings, or concierge staterooms and suites.
  • You can get the 10% discount and reduced deposit on a maximum of two staterooms per household.
  • Onboard booking incentives CANNOT be combined with any group discounts organized by a travel agency.
  • Disney could change these rules and benefits at any time. Check onboard for the latest terms.

Onboard Discount Blackout Dates:

Please note: there is no 10% discount when you book the following holiday and peak dates onboard (but you do get the smaller deposit):

  • Disney Dream : 3/31, 11/23, 11/27, 12/21, 12/26, 12/30
  • Disney Fantasy : 3/23, 3/30, 6/8, 11/23, 12/22, 12/26, 12/29
  • Disney Magic : 6/6, 11/25, 12/29
  • Disney Treasure : 12/21, 12/28
  • Disney Wish : 3/25, 3/29, 4/1, 11/25, 12/23, 12/27, 12/30
  • Disney Wonder : ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Dream : ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Fantasy : ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Magic : ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Treasure:  ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Wish : 4/14, 4/18, 4/21
  • The full legal names of everyone who is going to go on the future cruise, as listed on their passport or birth certificate
  • The number of rooms you want to book and what type ( inside, outside, verandah or placeholder )
  • Who’s in each room ( keeping in mind the maximum passengers for each room type )
  • Specific cruises you’re interested in, if you plan to book a cruise and not a placeholder ( or just rough notes with your needs/restrictions like dates or region )
  • Birth dates for everyone ( optional, but makes everything go smoother )
  • Bring the info with you on the cruise. If you just want to book a basic placeholder, you can do that while on the cruise with the Disney Navigator App on your phone (if you don’t already have it, just search for “Disney Navigator” in the Apple or Google app stores; you can download it before the cruise leaves to save time). If you want to do anything more complicated you’ll need to talk to a consultant at the future cruise desk.
  • If you can’t or don’t want to use the the Navigator app, at some point early in the cruise, go to the Future Bookings Desk on deck 4 and either fill out a form, or just put your room number and name on the sheet you brought (if it has all the details on it they’ll need) and drop it in the box. You can also wait for a consultant if they’re there, or check the schedule and come back when they’re scheduled to be there. If you drop off a form, they’ll secure a hold on a reservation and leave a printout by your stateroom door. If the reservation looks good, either go back to the desk to finish the booking or call 7-2848 from your stateroom phone. Either way, when the booking is done ask for a printed confirmation of your final reservation.
  • Before you leave the ship, confirm that everything is correct . You should have a printed confirmation or an emailed confirmation. The confirmation should show that your deposit is paid (if not, the booking will be canceled). If this isn’t on your confirmation, go to the Future Bookings Desk or Guest Services and make sure everything is correct. If you are working with a travel agent, verbally confirm that they are listed on the reservation before you leave the ship.
  • That’s it! If you booked a “placeholder” cruise, you can start the process of finding your actual cruise. If you are using a travel agent , email them to let them know you booked onboard. Once you’ve settled on the cruise you really want to take, change the booking as soon as you can to the actual sailing date to lock in the lowest possible fares and get the best choice of staterooms.

Disney Cruise Discounts for Florida Residents

  • If you are interested in booking one of these special Florida resident rates , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . Military personnel may book one stateroom under the military rates program. A second stateroom may be confirmed, if needed, to accommodate immediate family members only. For example, a family of two adults and four children may confirm two staterooms, based on availability, with the offer. Extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) do not qualify as immediate family members for the second stateroom. Active duty or retired military personnel and 100% permanently disabled veterans do not have to travel as long as their spouse has a valid military ID to show at the port. Reservists must be part of the travel party and must show ID at the port.

  • If you are interested in booking one of these special Military rates , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . Disney Cruise Discounts for Disney Visa Cardholders

Disney Visa cardholders who use their card as their payment method onboard automatically get several discounts on purchases on the ship and on Castaway Cay. In order for this to happen, you have to register your Disney Visa card when you check in at the port. You do not need to charge the cruise fare on your Disney Visa to get the discounts.

You should not need to ask at purchase time to get the discounts; if you have the card registered any discounts should automatically be applied when you make an eligible purchase.

These discounts cannot be combined with any other discounts you might qualify for, such as Disney Vacation Club discounts.

Discounts include:

  • 10% off selected merchandise purchases of $50 or more. Excludes sale merchandise, gift cards, Castaway Cay merchandise, DVDs, CDs, big-ticket items like art, jewelry, fragrances, cosmetics and watches, plus several vague catch-all categories like “selected special items.” Basically, ask first if you’ll get the 10% off, if it’s important to your purchase decision.
  • 10% off 10-photo, 15-photo, 20-photo or unlimited photo packages.
  • 10% off the Castaway Cay Getaway package (combination of snorkeling, bicycle and float or inner-tube rental).
  • 20% off full-priced massage or facial treatment in the onboard spa while in port . This does not include massages on Castaway Cay or treatments discounted as part of onboard specials.

Disney Cruise Discounts for Disney Vacation Club Members

Dvc onboard spending discounts.

Disney Vacation Club members get several discounts on purchases onboard any Disney Cruise. You need to ask for the discount and show your Disney Vacation Club card at time of purchase.

This discount cannot be combined with any other discounts you might qualify for, such as Disney Visa discounts. DVC members who only own points purchased via resale after April 4, 2016 are not eligible for discounts, including this one.

  • 10% off selected merchandise purchases of $50 or more.
  • 10% off any digital photo package.

All sailings are from Port Canaveral unless noted otherwise.

Other stateroom categories may be available at other rates. Rates are per adult, based on double occupancy. Occupancy restrictions may apply. • If you are interested in booking one of these special Disney Vacation Club rates , we recommend filling out a quote form with Small World Vacations . They give you full service, including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number, and we recommend them wholeheartedly ! Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them, PLUS their FREE onboard credit offer applies to these special fares (though note that the total cruise fare must be at least $1000 to get their onboard credit). Be sure to tell them you want to book a Disney Vacation Club fare. You will need to fax or email proof of DVC membership to finalize the booking. Note that these staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.

Organizing your own group? Disney Specialist travel agents are adept at handling large groups and offer on-board credit and sometimes other incentives. Contact a Disney Specialist travel agency such as Small World Vacations for details. Remember, it costs you nothing to use them!

Costco members can get rebates on Disney cruises, which come in the form of a Costco gift card. However, Costco Travel is not a full-service travel agency: don’t expect much service or information.

In our experience, Costco reps are very nice, but don’t know much about Disney Cruise Line. They almost certainly have never been on a Disney cruise, and may have never been on a cruise of any kind. If you choose to go this route, be prepared to spend time and energy doing your own research about what your package includes and how everything works. Heaven help you if you need to book something complicated like connecting rooms or want to know the pros and cons of different stateroom options. Costco Travel most definitely won’t be able to offer any insider tips on what to expect or help you take advantage of special booking tricks or “secret” room upgrades. Effectively you’re just booking the cruise yourself, but through Costco instead of Disney.

In addition, we find the Costco reps are clueless about Disney’s promotional offers — they really only know about the Costco rebate. You will have to do your own monitoring to see if any specials or price drops come out, and then see if you can get them applied to your booking. A top-notch Disney specialist agency will do this for you automatically, adjusting your reservation to reflect any current offers or discounts.

Travelocity sometimes has special deals on Disney cruises. They are usually fairly last-minute offers, most typically no more than 6 months in advance. Travelocity also sometimes advertises “15% off shore excursions” but be aware that those are privately booked excursions through a company called Port Promotions, NOT the official Disney excursions.

Expedia has the same base prices as everyone else, but occasionally they will have their own additional offer, like onboard credit or extra Expedia rewards points. Be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully; in some cases there are sharp limits on the extra rewards or credit, or it will only apply to the cruise fare for the first two guests instead of the entire cruise fare.

Disney Cruise Line Announces Special Offer for Disney Plus Subscribers

Absolutely unheard of for DCL to offer this much discount. Another example that DCL is not filling up it’s ships. If they’ll drop all the unnecessary medical restrictions they wouldn’t have to do this. We’ll wait. It’s only a matter of time.

' src=

exactly. until they drop the mandatory vaccine requirement, we won’t be sailing again. I am not subjecting my kids to a vaccine that does not work.

' src=

Ah, a refreshing dose of science denialism and misinformation for the morning.

' src=

I tried to follow the science, but it was simply not there. I then followed the money, that’s where I found the science.

' src=

Johnson AG, Amin AB, Ali AR, et al. Do you ever get bored of parroting the same trite diatribe? DCL is and has been doing just fine. And doesn’t need guests who won’t follow safety measures to help keep crew, cast members and guests safe. Additionally, it is not unheard of. DCL used to even offer kids sail free promotions.

The offer is for the 3rd and 4th passenger, not just kids. And just because they are sailing doesn’t mean they’re doing fine. Their ships are simply not at capacity at their choice.

' src=

Unfortunately not for us in Europe

' src=

I can’t find anywhere how to book this promotion. Is there a code or a special link to book through where you enter the Disney+ account info?

' src=

The special offer started today, 9/8. Once you log in to DCL’s website you will see the offer listed under special offers.

' src=

I guess I need to adopt some children or find some friends.

' src=

nothing for the west coast 🙁

If Disney would quit mandating a vaccine that does not work they would not have trouble getting the ships full. We love Disney cruises but won’t be sailing again as long as that mandate is in place. Pretty much everyone has immunity at this point between the shots and the actual virus. Stop the madness.

' src=

You watch too much Fox News buddy. Name me one person that died from the vaccine itself

Madness is comments like yours. The idea that a vaccinated or previously infected person can’t get Covid or get it multiple times is complete disinformation. And, you are showing a clear lack of understanding of how vaccines works. There’s been so much education on this – it’s just bizarre that people still chose to be misinformed.

' src=

I’m not sure what your argument is here. It appears that you are admitting that vaccinated and previously infected individuals can still get and spread the virus. Since we know that to be true, the idea that only vaccinated individuals can sail in order to prevent the spread of the virus is wrong. We know that every ship that has been sailing under vaccine requirements has been reporting positive tests. The whole time. So if the vaccinated are still getting and spreading the virus on the ships, how does banning the unvaccinated help prevent the spread that is still happening amongst the vaccinated? If the argument is that being vaccinated reduces your symptoms, but does not prevent spread, then you are just talking about how people choose to fight the virus once they become infected. If the vaccine prevented the spread, then ships would have had no positive cases since they re-opened. Or if the vaccine works, then why would you be afraid of sailing with someone not vaccinated? Just because someone is not vaccinated does not mean they are infected and spreading the virus. As of right now, on all cruise lines the unvaccinated are still required to test before sailing. That’s a whole new debate on the efficacy of testing, but the fact that the vaccinated are not required to test means they are ignoring the fact that the CDC admits the vaccine does not prevent the spread of the virus. If they are going to test anyone, they should test everyone. But in any case, vaccinated or not is not changing whether people can spread the virus or not.

I agree that Disney would sell more tickets if they dropped the vaccine requirement. Carnival saw nearly double the amount of bookings once that requirement was dropped. I predict you would see a similar result if Disney finally follows all the other major cruise lines.

' src=

I absolutely love the fact that these cruises ban the unvaccinated. Keep your sickly Trump worshipping selves at home.

' src=

@Dave – why the hostility to others who think differently? My wife and I are vaccinated but choose not to vaccinate our children. Unfortunately as of right now we can’t go on a DCL cruise. I’m hoping they relax the rules in the near future. There are many of us who are not Trump worshipping, anti-vaxxers who simply feel the world should be back to normal now with all of the options available out there for treatment.

11 ways to save money on a Disney cruise

Summer Hull

Update : Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

Two travel truths right now are that travel has become very expensive and air travel is more unpredictable and unpleasant than normal. Personally, I spent $700 round-trip each on domestic economy tickets to take my kid to summer camp 1,000 miles away. That's absolutely insane.

On the other end of the spectrum, another type of travel is having a different kind of moment.

This type of travel remains affordable and typically isn't as stressful as dealing with airports, delays and cancellations. In fact, I'd argue it's the most relaxing and affordable vacation available right now: a cruise ship.

Personally, I'm partial to Disney Cruise Line .

Disney Cruise Line has a reputation for being expensive and designed just for families — though neither of those things actually has to be true . While these cruises can be more expensive than some other cruise lines, if you can select a port you can drive to, you may be surprised at how affordable a Disney cruise can be when viewed as an all-in vacation price.

Here's how to save money on a Disney cruise — and find the cheaper Disney cruises that start at around $500 per person (based on double occupancy) for the entire experience.

That's less than that painful $700 flight — which, unlike a cruise, doesn't include accommodations, meals or entertainment.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Pick the dates that start at just over $1,000

Yes, Disney Cruise Line costs more than Carnival or Royal Caribbean, but throw away the notion that a Disney cruise is unattainably expensive. It simply isn't true. The peak school break weeks are expensive, but with so many three- and four-night sailings, you can choose a long weekend and avoid those pricey weeks if you want to.

As an example, two people can sail for three nights from Miami to the Bahamas on Disney Dream from Friday, Sept. 9 to Monday, Sept. 12 for just $1255.72 in a verandah cabin (not some windowless inside space).

Good luck finding a hotel you actually want to stay at that weekend for three nights in Miami for that price — and remember this $1,256 rate is the price for the entire cruise experience, not just the room.

You don't have to sail from Florida ports during hurricane season to find that $1,000-ish price point. You can sail for roughly the same price from Galveston, Texas to Mexico on Disney Magic in January 2023 on a four-night cruise to Mexico for just $1,441 for two people in a balcony cabin.

Adding two kids to that same Galveston itinerary to make a trip for four people would raise the price to $2,324.

Or, sail from San Diego to Mexico starting at $1,086 in an inside cabin or $1,278 for a verandah room.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Think about it. That $2,324 rate from Galveston for four people works out to $145 per person, per day — which isn't bad compared to what other trips cost these days.

For those same travel dates of Jan. 27-31, 2023, it would cost a family of four $1,444 for four nonstop Basic Economy flights on United from Houston to Cancun. Four nights of lodging at the all-inclusive Hyatt Ziva resort in Cancun (which includes meals, entertainment and a kids club, like the sailing does) come to $3,392 for those four nights.

For the flights and hotel stay, that's just over double the cost of the Disney Cruise for the same number of days visiting roughly the same destination.

Let Disney choose your cabin

A good way to save money on a Disney cruise is to let the cruise line choose your cabin in exchange for a discounted fare. These are called guaranteed rates. You pick the room type (inside, verandah, etc.) but Disney gets to be the one that selects exactly which room within that category you get.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

These fares come with additional restrictions around payments and changes, but you can save up to 35% off the going rates. I've had great success with these discounted fares in the past. As long as you aren't too picky about where your room is on the ship, this strategy can be a tremendous way to save on your Disney cruise.

Book via a travel agent that gives you onboard credit

You can log onto the Disney Cruise Line website and book the cruise yourself, but you may not want to when you know a travel agent can do the work for you — and give you some credit back in the process.

The amount varies, but I've gotten up to $750 as a statement credit when I booked a pricier Disney cruise at the concierge level . On the more affordable cruises and cabins, expect the credit to be more in the $75-$200 range.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

While the amount will vary, you can often get somewhere between 5-10% of the price of your cruise back in the form of a gift card or shipboard spending credit through a travel agent or even via Costco Travel .

If you aren't sure where to start, you can get offers from agents who want to book your cruise — sometimes with extra perks and credits — via Cruise Compete .

Pay with discounted Disney gift cards

At wholesale clubs, such as Sam's Club and Costco, you can reliably purchase Disney gift cards at a discount . Sometimes, these discounts get even bigger around sales such as Black Friday. But on an ongoing basis, you can usually get a $500 Disney gift card for about $485.

That's not a huge discount, but if you paid for your $3,000 Disney cruise with those cards, it would save you $90.

If you have a Target credit card, you can also save 5% on Disney gift cards at Target. On that same $3,000 Disney Cruise, that's $150 saved by going that route.

Remember that you can often earn bonus points with certain credit cards when shopping for Disney gift cards depending on where you purchase them. Office supply stores, grocery stores and even wholesale clubs can be good bonus categories for different rewards credit cards, allowing you to earn 3, 4 or 5 points per dollar on your card while you buy your gift cards.

Use your credit card points

Not all credit card points can easily translate to a "free" Disney cruise, but some can.

The easiest way to do this is to pay some — or all — of the cruise with a credit card that lets you use your points at a fixed value to erase a travel charge. This way, you could book with a travel agent to get that onboard credit and then use your points to wipe out your deposit or final payment.

For example, if you put the charge on your Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card or Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card , you could use the miles at 1 cent each in value to wipe out the cost. The first example given, on the three-night cruise from Miami to the Bahamas for $1,255 ,would take about 125,500 Venture miles to fully erase the cash cost.

With those two welcome bonuses currently each at 75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 in spending in the first three months from account opening, that's not an unrealistic goal.

Earn 75,000 bonus miles worth $750 in travel with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card after $4,000 in spending in three months from account opening.

Upgrade at the port for less

This tip isn't exactly about saving money overall, but it is a way to get a better room for less than the original list price.

If the cruise isn't sold out, you can go to a special desk at the port before you board and ask about any space-available discounted upgrades. At Port Canaveral, where all the Disney check-in desks are on the left side of the terminal building, the upgrade desk is the rightmost desk.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

The cost to upgrade will be related to the room type you've booked and the one you'd like to upgrade to. The supervisor will use a pre-printed chart to find that cost differential. It will cost less than if you had booked a better room initially, sometimes by about half, though that number varies.

On our Disney Dream cruise this spring, I was able to upgrade to a larger and more deluxe cabin for $34. Total. Get to the terminal as soon as you can if you are hoping for a suite or concierge upgrade because those are very limited and go quickly.

While I haven't done it, I've also heard that even cheaper prices become available on board once the ship sets sail, though I haven't tried that myself.

Save 10% by putting a deposit for your next cruise down while you're on board

The easiest way to save 10% on a Disney cruise doesn't work for your first cruise, but can work for all subsequent ones.

When you are on a Disney Cruise Line ship, you can put a $250 placeholder deposit down on a future Disney cruise to be used within two years. This can be done in your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app while on board.

You don't have to pick which cruise you want to do at that moment, but by putting that $250 in a placeholder you can not only apply that $250 when you ultimately pick your next Disney cruise but also save 10% off the rate valid on most dates and room types in the process.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

That one step can save you hundreds of dollars on your vacation. Worst case scenario, that $250 is refunded to you if you don't book another cruise in the next two years. That happened to us during the pandemic, and the money came back automatically and without a problem once the 24 months were up.

BYOB and skip the extras

If you are looking to trim costs on your Disney cruise, bring things from home that you would otherwise likely purchase.

For example, you can bring up to six cans of beer or two bottles of wine per person aged 21 and up. Instead of paying cruise prices for those beverages, you can bring what you want from home at regular land-based prices, up to those maximum limits.

You can also bring one case of unopened water bottles on board. These come in handy for shore excursions or when you need to hydrate by the pool. (Better yet, pack a refillable water bottle.)

Since a Disney Cruise already includes meals, room service, snacks, soft-serve ice cream, fountain drinks and plenty of entertainment, you don't need to spend anything additional on board if you don't want to. This is especially true on a new-to-you ship and on those shorter three- and four-night cruises where there is more than enough to do and explore already.

Just carry on a few beverages and skip all the extras.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

If your sailing goes to Disney Cruise Line's private island, Castaway Cay , beach chairs, umbrellas, the ocean waterslide and lunch on the island are also included at no extra charge.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Seek out spa discounts

If you're focused on saving money, you'll want to skip the spa entirely on your cruise. But if nothing says vacation like a massage, you can find a discount on onboard spa services on a Disney cruise.

I've received a port day discount that was about 20% off because most people book their treatments on sea days, and the spa is less busy when the ship is docked. The Disney Visa also advertises a 20% discount on select massages or facials on port days on an ongoing basis.

I've also received $50 off a second service while checking out for my first. It's fairly common for cruise ship spas to offer discounts when you book multiple treatments.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

If you don't see a discount advertised, just ask at the spa desk. That's how I got hooked up with spa deals on previous Disney cruises.

Use Disney Visa onboard cruise discounts

In addition to the 20% off select spa treatments, Disney Visa cardholders also get 10% off a Castaway Cay package that includes snorkel gear, a bike rental and an inner tube. Additional discounts include 10% off onboard merchandise purchases of $50 or more and onboard photos.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

If you need time to spread out payments, those with a Disney Visa can also get a 0% annual percentage rate on their Disney vacation for six months. Right now, the card also has a welcome bonus of up to $300 toward a Disney vacation.

Book early and go off-peak

This is a no-brainer tip to avid cruisers, but if you are newer to cruising, know that booking early and sailing off-peak are great ways to save money on a Disney cruise.

I booked our Alaska cruise for the summer of 2023 the day the calendar opened this year because the price typically increases as the sailing date nears. You can sometimes find last-minute specials, but most of the time, cruise prices only go one direction — up.

You'll put 20% down when you first book and then have until much closer to sailing to pay off the remaining 80%.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Date flexibility will also help you save money on a Disney cruise. The same itinerary that costs $2,000 in September will be up to three times more expensive if you want to sail over winter break.

If you can't find any affordable prices, I recommend scrolling the cruise list by price instead of starting with the perfect date or itinerary. A sailing you may not have initially considered may turn out to be the perfect vacation option.

Bottom line

Believe it or not, a Disney cruise can be much cheaper than a trip to the Disney theme parks. ( A cruise is often much less stressful, too .)

Remember that $2,324 four-night sailing from Galveston to Mexico for a family of four? At $145 per person, per night, it's absolutely less than a trip to Disney World. Park tickets alone these days can be close to $145 per person and Disney resort rooms are $200-$700 or more per night, depending on your resort choice.

Add food costs on top of that, and you're almost certainly well above the price of a Disney cruise.

If you stack on some of these tips to save money on your Disney cruise, you could knock anywhere from 10-25% off the list price, depending on how many of the tips you are able to use.

As for me, I'm seriously contemplating that January getaway from Texas that will take us to Mexico and provide for all our lodging, meal and entertainment needs in the process.

Now I just need to figure out how much in additional savings I can stack onto the already pretty fair rate.

NEW Disney+ Day Subscriber Discounts for Disney World, Cruise Line & More!

disney cruise and disney plus discount

In celebration of Disney+ Day, the company is releasing tons of new discounts, limited-time offers, experiences, and perks. These will include deals for Walt Disney World resort hotels and reduced rate DCL sailings, and more. In this post, we’ll share all of the discounts that will be released for the big day–and prepare for what to expect from the WDW room promo.

For starters, there’s a deal on Disney+ itself for those who aren’t already subscribers. Starting tonight at 9 pm Pacific and running through Monday, September 19, 2022 at 11:59pm PT, new and returning subscribers can get one month of Disney+ for $1.99.

Even if you, for some reason, have zero interest in the Disney+ streaming service, it’ll almost certainly be worth subscribing for a month just to take advantage of all these discounts (personally, I’d want to be subscribed before the deals drop). At the very least, you can watch the Imagineering Story  and  Muppets Haunted Mansion  again.

The Disney+ Day celebration leads into D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa in Anaheim, CA from September 9 through September 11, where subscribers in attendance can receive access to even more onsite perks and expect exciting announcements and first-looks at upcoming Disney+ Originals.

In celebration of Disney+ Day starting September 8, 2022 at 12:00am Pacific or 3:00am Eastern, both existing and new subscribers can receive the following perks:

Walt Disney World Resort Offer: Experience holiday fun during the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration! Disney+ subscribers can be on the lookout for a special holiday offer at select Disney Resort hotels.

Presumably, this is the discount that’s most interesting to our readers, so we’ll interject some commentary here before continuing on with the laundry list of special offers…

disney cruise and disney plus discount

This isn’t exactly unprecedented. Early this summer, Walt Disney World released its first-ever discount for Disney+ subscribers . That promotion is still available to book, and runs through September 30, 2022. That Disney+ deal offered several percentage-savings tiers, with resorts offering 10% to 25% off.

Less popular Deluxe Resorts offer the best discount, followed by the Port Orleans Resorts, All Stars, Coronado Springs, other Deluxes, and everything else. As with all recent Walt Disney World special offers, there were exclusions, several resorts didn’t offer discounts at all, and availability was all over the place–really dependent upon travel dates.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

More recently, Walt Disney World released its AP offer for Up to 25% Off Resorts for Fall to Christmas 2022 . This came out just a couple of weeks ago, and was notable because it was released later than normal and not accompanied by special offers for the general public or even Florida residents.

Now, it would appear, we know why.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Actually, at the time of release it was relatively unsurprising that the fall and holiday special offer was narrowly targeted at Annual Passholders. While this year’s AP discount is better than what was offered last year for most of these dates ( absolutely nothing ), it is worth noting that availability was/is incredibly limited.

In fact, there were some dates that offer almost zero options with or without the discount. Take a look:

disney cruise and disney plus discount

The longer your trip, the more likely you’re going to see results like this. Even prior to this discount being released, we had been searching for ~3 night stays throughout November and December and were having difficulty finding decent options at our resorts of choice.

This was something covered recently in  Don’t Wait for Discounts to Book Fall & Christmas Stays at Walt Disney World . The title pretty much says it all. Despite a temporary reprieve, pent-up demand appears to  still  be going strong for the most popular time of year to stay at Walt Disney World.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

The more optimistic of you might be hopeful that Walt Disney World has simply been holding back room inventory in anticipation of this Disney+ deal.

That’s always a possibility and, odd as it may sound, actually is not entirely unprecedented. It could be the case here, especially since streaming is so important to the company, and the goal might be making a big splash with Disney+ Day.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

However, I’m highly skeptical that’s the case. Room availability has been gradually vanishing for October through December; it was not an overnight thing with inventory clearly being pulled and held back. Beyond that, it would require Walt Disney World deliberately selling rooms at a reduced rate when they could’ve sold them at rack rate.

That’s just not good business. (I would’ve been less skeptical of this a year ago, when streaming services were happily losing money in the name of subscriber growth. The tides have turned this year, though.)

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Our expectation is that the Disney+ Day deal more or less mirrors the above Annual Passholder deal for late October through December 2022.

The two most likely differences on the face of the discounts will be in terms of percentage savings and timeframes. We’d expect to see smaller savings (by 5%) and a larger date-range. (Our hope is that more October 2022 dates are included.) This is entirely speculative, but based on a mix of past precedent and resort occupancy expectations for the last quarter of the calendar year.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Anyway, the point with all of that is you should stay up late or get up early and book this Disney+ Day deal at Walt Disney World ASAP.

There’s a very good chance that what you want will have limited availability, exclusions, or be sold out–even right when the deal goes live. The more flexible you can be, the better.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

If your dates are firm for Christmas, you’re dead-set on the Polynesian, and are expecting a great deal…be prepared for disappointment instead. That’s almost certainly not how this one is going to work. Not trying to be a buzzkill, just a realist.

Instead, be prepared to be flexible on travel dates or resort options. Get creative when searching Disneyworld.com, and embrace the split stay. (We are strong advocates of split stays in general, but they’re especially great during the holiday season!)

disney cruise and disney plus discount

What you absolutely should  not  do is search online, not immediately find what you want, and call to book the reservation over the phone with the assumption the booking agent will find you “hidden” availability or something of that sort. You’ll wait on hold for hours, only to be told the exact same thing you saw yourself online. Well, not  exactly the same thing. Whatever options booked up during the delay will be gone by then.

Another option is  requesting a FREE no obligation pricing quote from  Be Our Guest Vacations , an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner and having them book for you. Do this TODAY, not tomorrow. Same goes with them–provide multiple resort options and maximum flexibility. Travel agents are more adept at making these reservations than the average guest, but they’re not miracle workers–if something is sold out, it’s sold out.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Again, I’m not trying to be a debbie downer about this. (I try not to deal in hyperbole or histrionics.) Rather, I want to set realistic expectations given what we already know about October through December occupancy and the AP discount that was recently released. It’s also important to understand how this will probably work, so you can better prepare for success.

I would love nothing more to be wrong, and have Disney+ Day be like Christmas morning when it comes to Walt Disney World resort discounts. Perhaps that’ll be the case, and a ton of room inventory will  magically be released overnight. If so, that will be an incredibly pleasant surprise…but what about recent precedent with Walt Disney World gives you occasion to be optimistic that this will happen?

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Some readers complained of the first Disney+ deal at Walt Disney World, but we think that’s misguided. From our perspective, this is significant in it’s an affiliation offer with a very low barrier to entry. Subscribing to Disney+ is much cheaper than buying an Annual Pass (which most people can’t even do right now) or moving to Florida.

Despite that, many members of the general public simply won’t even consider doing that in order to qualify for these savings. That makes no economic sense–spending $1.99 to potentially save hundreds of dollars on a hotel is an absolute no-brainer decision–but it’s how deals like this always play out.  Any  barrier to entry is too much for many people. That’s bad for those who don’t do their due diligence, but great for those who do–it means less competition. (This is the Walt Disney World vacation planning story, in a nutshell.)

disney cruise and disney plus discount

As for why Walt Disney World is making it easier to qualify for an affiliation discount on rooms, the answer is simple: Disney+ is the company’s focus and fixation. There’s a misconception about Disney+ being incredibly profitable–quite the opposite is true. The company lost $1.1 billion on streaming services in the last quarter alone.

Disney+ is a revenue driver, but it’s still losing money as the company attempts to gain market share. In so doing, Disney is spending colossal sums on content and user acquisition. While this deal appears to be a perk for Disney+ subscribers, it’s also another attempt to incentivize new subscriptions. (Every single streaming service is heavily subsidized right now–none are viable with their present business models, so enjoy this while it lasts!)

Anyway, on with the other Disney+ Day deals and special offers…

Although dates are limited, as of 10:45 central time today (Thursday, September 8), there are many standard rooms available in most resorts! Sadly, we’re going the first week in December, so we will miss the bargains. However, for those traveling from Dec 11-25 — this is a good deal!

Well that’s a huge disappointment. The Disney+ discount is only good for December 11th through December 25th.

It’s only for dates December 11-25. It’s posted on Disney’s site.

Discount Disneyland Tickets Deals 2024: Get Cheap Tickets Here!

Discount Disneyland Tickets Deals 2024: Get Cheap Tickets Here!

Disneyland ticket prices have been getting higher over the years, but visitors will be happy to know that there are some ways that you can save during your trip. In this guide to saving money on tickets and getting the best discounts for your Disneyland trip, we will cover every option for purchasing cheap tickets and cover the discounts offered when you travel during 2024. We are constantly updating this page with the best Disneyland discounts.

Disneyland offers discount tickets through third-party resellers that are allowed to sell tickets at a cheaper price because they guarantee to Disney that they will sell a certain amount of tickets each year. You'll already find discounts for 2024 and 2025 tickets on sale. These resellers then get to decide how much of a savings they want to pass on to customers in the form of discounts and coupon codes. In this guide, we'll share an update on the best options for purchasing discount Disneyland tickets.

For those looking for an immediate answer, you can save that most on tickets (often over $20 cheaper than buying from Disney directly) when you book through Get Away Today via our private link . They exclusively offer our readers even lower prices than you will find by going to their site directly. They have worked with Disney for nearly 35 years and have sold millions of Disneyland tickets. We will share more details below in our guide!

Buy Discount Disneyland Tickets NOW >

We visit Disneyland weekly and are constantly looking at the best prices for tickets. You won't find a better discussion of the best ways to save on tickets than on this page. You'll find the best ways to save money on cheap tickets and also a WARNING of key things to avoid so you don't get scammed when trying to find discount Disneyland tickets.

In this planning guide:

Top 9 Things to Know Before Buying Discount Disneyland Tickets

disneyland rise of the resistance attraction

We already have a whole page dedicated just to Disneyland ticket prices that also breaks down how all the tickets work and the various Disneyland ticket options. Rather than rewriting all of those details, I just wanted to summarize the key points for your consideration when looking for discounts.

  • Disneyland theme park reservations are still required for all tickets so that Disney can properly control theme park capacity! See our guide to park reservations here . Be sure to check the park reservation calendar before booking.
  • You will get the lowest prices on Disneyland tickets when you book through our link to Get Away Today. They also have hotel packages that are worth considering to get an extra day free. Purchase discounted tickets now. BUY Lowest Priced Tickets Now >
  • There are different ticket prices for children . Guests ages 2 and under free. Ages 3-9 require a child ticket and those 10 and over require an adult ticket.
  • You can rarely find discounts on one-day Disneyland tickets . See a warning on these discounts in our later section. However, it is useful to know that when buying 1-Day tickets directly from Disneyland, there are pricing tiers ranging between $104-194. To save on 1-Day tickets, you can aim to visit on the days that are the lowest pricing tier. There are sometimes discounts for Southern California Residents on tickets that don't have the same 13-day restriction but even these have a multi-day use requirement.
  • You can choose between One Park Per Day tickets and Park Hopper Tickets . One Park Per Day tickets allow you to visit a single park per day (either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park), while Park Hopper tickets allow you to start at the park you made your reservation at and hop between the two starting at 11 am if capacity allows. Park Hopping tickets will cost more than One Park Per Day tickets.
  • The Genie+ service is an additional cost on top of your tickets. With the Genie+ service, you can book Lightning Lanes once per attraction per day which allow you to enter select popular attractions through a separate line with a shorter wait. You can either buy Genie+ ahead of time with your tickets or buy the service on the day of your trip after you've entered the parks. With the recent price increase, the Disney Genie+ service is an additional $30 per day when you purchase it in advance with your tickets and starts at $30 when you wait to purchase Genie+ the day of your trip but may vary.
  • The length of your trip will affect the cost of your tickets . While you can see both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in one day , we recommend planning your trip for multiple days to enjoy everything that the parks have to offer. For a multi-day trip, 2-5 day tickets are available for Disneyland. You can see more of our discussion on this below!
  • You can go straight to the gate when you buy your discounted Disneyland tickets through Get Away Today . Your tickets are sent electronically, which means that you won't need to go to the turnstiles of either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure. You can instead take your phone or printed confirmation and go straight to the gate to enter. Make sure to book your tickets at least two days before your arrival to ensure that they are processed in time for the first day of your vacation.
  • You can get additional savings when you book a vacation package with your hotel and Disneyland tickets . There are several best hotels near Disneyland that you can explore as options for Disneyland vacation packages with discount Disneyland tickets. See everything you need to know about booking Disneyland vacation packages in our guide!

How Many Days Should My Disneyland Resort Trip Be?

We like to aim for at least three days to enjoy everything that Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park have to offer like the amazing Cars Land or Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (ride photo seen above). We break down how many days you need for Disneyland in a new article that captures everything you need to consider. From a ticket perspective, you need to know that the cost of each additional day you add to your trip gets less and less expensive.

You should  consider buying a Disneyland Park Hopper ticket so you can see both parks with lots of flexibility during your days at the Disneyland Resort.

Top Cheap Disneyland Tickets Recommendation

Disneyland Adventureland

Our top recommendation for getting the cheapest Disneyland tickets is to take advantage of Get Away Today's exclusive discount offers that are just for Mickey Visit readers. Get Away Today is the authorized Disney ticket reseller that has the best discount ticket prices around. Buying your tickets from Get Away Today is convenient since all their tickets are sent electronically, so you can take their vouchers and head straight to the gate without needing to wait in any ticket booth lines!

Additionally, Get Away Today offers a Layaway Plan you can book for $200 down that allows you to pay off your vacation over time. This option will allow you to lock in your plans without having to worry about paying the full amount upfront. You can make as many interest-free payments as you'd like with your final payment due 9 days before travel.

Not only does Get Away Today have better Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park discounts than the other resellers, but their customer service and easy support are absolutely fantastic. They have an entire department dedicated to making sure every order has a 10/10 experience!

Below are the current prices on Disneyland tickets next to the exclusive Get Away Today prices that are just for our readers. Check out those ticket savings!

Through our partnership with Get Away Today, we are able to offer the lowest-priced tickets. Check out the Get Away Today website for information on all ticket discounts! These discounts are exclusively available to Mickey Visit readers. You have to click through our private links to unlock exclusive access to these lower prices (if you just go directly to the Get Away Today website, you will just see their normal prices).

They can also help with other Southern California vacation destinations like San Diego, Legoland, Universal Studios Hollywood, and more. They also have discounts on Disney tickets for other destinations and other theme park tickets.

Read our editor’s review on her personal experiences booking through Get Away Today and how much you can save for more details!

There are other ticket resellers out there like Undercover Tourist for discount Disneyland tickets, but through our link you'll get lower prices and far superior customer service. Many other cheap Disney resellers throw in high “processing fees” at the last minute in order to appear–at first glance–as if they offer the lowest discounts and cheapest tickets. Note that all regular multi-day Disneyland tickets expire in 13 days after the first use.

Seasonal Theme Park Tickets Discounts

its a small world at disneyland

In addition to offering discounts through ticket resellers, Disney will also occasionally offer additional ticket discounts for specific dates throughout the year and for specific groups like California Residents and Southern California Residents. These discounts are always available from both Disney and the travel resellers.

Spring Kids Special Offer Tickets 2024

For instance, there is currently a child discount for spring 2024 that anyone can book based on the dates that you could book directly with Disney or book with Get Away Today and get even more savings on top of the discount.

Guests can choose between 1, 2, or 3-day park ticket discounts, with the option to upgrade to Disneyland Park Hopper tickets or add on the Genie+ service, valid for the dates January 8, 2024-March 10, 2024. See the offer pricing directly from Disneyland below on the kid special offer tickets.

Discount 1-Day Child Price Tickets

  • 1-day Park Hopper $85
  • Add Genie+ for $30 to either ticket type

Discount 2-Day Child Price Tickets

  • 2-day Park Hopper $165
  • Add $60 for Genie+ to either ticket type

Discount 3-Day Child Price Tickets

  • 3-day Park Hopper $215

These are great ticket discount prices for this offer, and you can save even more on top of this by booking the tickets through Get Away Today. Park reservations are still required for these tickets.

There are also special discount Disneyland ticket offers available during certain times of year for SoCal residents. You can see an example of this type of offer below.

Southern California Residents Savings 2024

The current SoCal Disneyland ticket discount is valid for visits from January 2, 2024 through June 2, 2024. You can also add on a Park Hopper upgrade or Genie+ for additional fees at the time of purchase.

Southern California Residents Tickets

  • 3-Day, 1-Park Per Day Ticket (for admission Monday through Thursday only) – $225 ($75 per day)
  • 3-Day, 1-Park Per Day Ticket (for admission any day) – $275

For seasonal discounts on hotel stays, the Disneyland Resort Hotels follow a pattern of when they release discounts throughout the year. These discounts usually range between 10% and 25% off depending on the time of year. You can see everything you need to know about Disneyland Resort Hotel discounts in our guide .

Getting Discounts With Combined Hotel and Tickets

Grand Californian lobby

One way to save during your Disneyland trip is to buy a vacation package that includes hotel accommodations and tickets. While you can book Disneyland vacation packages through the Walt Disney Travel Company, this option will be more expensive than if you choose to book with an authorized Disney travel agent.

For the best deal on Disneyland vacation packages, we recommend Get Away Today. Get Away Today purchases tickets and hotel rooms in blocks, then repackages them at lower prices than what Disneyland offers to provide you with significant discounts.

In addition to the savings you'll get if you book a Disneyland vacation package through Get Away Today, you'll be able to take advantage of Get Away Today's free Disneyland concierge services for help in planning your vacation. Just check out the hotel and ticket discounts here . You'll also be able to enjoy perks like 3rd or 4th night free at select Anaheim-area hotels and other exclusive Get Away Today perks like free breakfast, free parking, and more.

For everything you need to know about booking Disneyland vacation packages , you can see our guide on the subject!

Disneyland Magic Key Passes

Chip and Dale Disneyland

The Disneyland Magic Key Annual Passes are not currently on sale and are so popular that they sold out almost immediately (within a day) of the last time that they were offered to the public. So, keep in mind that these Disneyland Annual Passes are probably not the best way to save on tickets for an upcoming trip. They are worth considering and pricing out though in anticipation of getting one in the future to make those trips less expensive. We predict when Magic Key Passes will go on sale again here .

The Magic Key annual pass program is available across four different tiers with different price ranges. The pass levels include discounts for merchandise as well as food & beverage. Magic Key holders will have to make park reservations and the amount they can make will depend on the tier level they purchased. Park reservations remain in place to manage theme park capacity.

See the pricing and discounts available for each of the Magic Key pass types below:

  • Up to 10% off select merchandise

Disneyland Tickets Discount For Annual Passes

Disneyland Sailing Ship Columbia

Disneyland Resort tickets can be used as credit towards the purchase of a higher-priced ticket or annual pass. But to be eligible for an upgrade you must upgrade during the period that your ticket is still valid. When you upgrade a ticket, the amount that you spent on the ticket will be applied towards the new pass. If you purchased discounted tickets, the rack amount will be applied towards a pass. A reminder that park reservations are required.

Now, here are some other ticket discounts.

Disney Vacation Club Discounted Tickets

new disney vacation club owner area

The  Disney Vacation Club  is a Disney-owned timeshare operation with units at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Vero Beach, Hilton Head Island, and Aulani Resort in Hawaii.

Disney Vacation Club members get a $20 discount off a purchase of a NEW Disneyland Annual Pass. This discount does not apply to the renewal of any Disneyland Annual Pass. This discount is only available to the Disney Vacation Club Member’s immediate household.

Disney Vacation Club members can also enjoy member benefits like discounts on merchandise and dining at various locations—see all the member benefits available at Disneyland .

Costco Disneyland Resort Discount Tickets

Grizzly River Run

You used to be able to purchase discount Disneyland tickets at Costco in many of the Costco Warehouse stores, but these are now no longer available in stores or online.

Costco Travel does offer Disneyland vacation packages that include tickets and hotel accommodations, but these are only available to Costco members and are never the lowest prices available on discount Disneyland tickets.

What is the difference between Costco Disneyland discount tickets and Get Away Today discount tickets?

Get Away Today discount Disneyland tickets are the only tickets with a refundable option making them the best way to have flexibility while also saving money. Read more about discount Disneyland tickets from Costco in 2024 and read more about refundable Disneyland tickets here .

Many view Costco Disneyland tickets 2024 as a great option to save on Disneyland, but sadly this is outdated information. Make sure you compare your Disneyland Costco ticket prices before purchasing.

AAA Disneyland & Disney California Adventure Park Tickets Discount

Previously, AAA was the gold standard in ticket discounts for Disneyland. Today they have scaled back their offerings dramatically but there are still discounts offered occasionally.

AAA Disneyland ticket discounts can provide a nice deal on your Disneyland vacation, but AAA Disneyland tickets are not the same discount that they used to be. If AAA discounts on Disneyland tickets are available where you live, you can purchase discounted 2-Day, 3-Day, 4-Day, and 5-Day 1 Park Per Day or Park Hopper tickets with the option to add on Genie+.

It is still worth checking the AAA website to see if the AAA discount Disneyland tickets are available to you, or you can reach out to your local AAA branch for further information. If AAA Disneyland tickets are not available where you live, be sure to take advantage of Get Away Today's discount prices.

Disneyland Military Discounted Tickets

Flag Retreat Disneyland

Disneyland has special military discount ticket offers for active or retired members of the US military. These tickets can be purchased at participating US military sales outlets by eligible service members or their spouses (valid military identification required) and can be used for themselves or family and friends. You can see more information on Disneyland military discount tickets here .

You (a member of the military) may purchase discount park tickets for guests who do not fall into the category as long as you are with them when they enter the park. Disney Cast Members are supposed to check your military ID at the front gate for all military tickets.

See the most current 2024 US military offer below that can be purchased now through December 10, 2024 for usage from January 2 through December 13, 2024:

  • 3-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket: $269
  • 3-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket with Disney Genie+ Service: $359
  • 4-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket: $315
  • 4-Day Military Promotional Park Hopper Ticket with Disney Genie+ Service: $435

Group Disneyland Tickets Discounts

Student Discounts Disneyland

While the Disney Education Youth Series (YES) that offered educational classes taught inside the theme parks is no longer offered, the similar  Disney Imagination Campus offers specially-priced group ticket discounts for field trips and educational opportunities for groups of at least 10 visitors ages 3 to 22. For information and reservations, call (714) 520-7053.

There are some universities and colleges throughout the Southern California area that offer discounts on one-day and two-day tickets. These discount ticket offers, which can usually be purchased from the various Student Unions, do not provide many ways to save. Several schools, including the University of Southern California (USC), have stopped offering these ticket types.

Credit Card Rewards Program Discounts

Disney Visa Card discounts

You can redeem Credit Card Rewards, like the Disney Visa Card which lets you earn and redeem Disney Rewards Dollars, for theme park tickets. If you are a Disney Visa Cardholder, rewards dollars are put on a Disney Rewards Redemption Card, and these can be used towards Disney Resort stays and theme park tickets much like a Disney Gift Card. You can see more details about 2024 Disney Visa Card discounts in our guide!

As a Disney Visa Cardmember, you can also enjoy various perks including savings on select dining and merchandise locations throughout the Disneyland Resort as well. Some of these discounts include:

  • Receive 10% off select merchandise purchases at select locations at the Disneyland Resort when you use your Disney Visa Card
  • Receive 10% off select dining locations most days at the Disneyland Resort when you use your Disney Visa Card
  • Receive 15% off the non-discounted price of select guided tours at Disneyland Resort when you use your Disney Visa Card.
  • Ghirardelli® Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop

  • California Sole
  • Wetzel’s Pretzels
  • JOFFREYS.COM (entire purchase with code: DISNEYBEANS24)

Even with a credit card valid theme park admission is required.

Corporate & Government Agencies Disneyland Resort Ticket Discounts

Disney offers discounts for entrance to Disneyland to large corporations and government agencies in Los Angeles, California. Check with the Human Resources department of your agency to check these offers.

Also, most Disneyland Corporate Sponsors are given tickets or sell tickets to employees for a big discount. Check with your Human Resources department for all of the information regarding the available ticket discounts. Always remember to compare these ticket prices to the discounts available to the public (listed above).

Teachers Unions Disneyland Resort Ticket Discount

Any teachers who are members of a union in the US or Canada are very likely to be eligible for heavily discounted ticket offers. Check with your union. These discount offers vary in the amount that's discounted from agency to agency.

Disneyland Resort Law Enforcement Discount

While Disneyland does not offer any specific discount offers for law enforcement, there are opportunities to receive access to discounts.

Firefighters and members of the police should contact their benefits department or union for information on potential discounts and offers. Many unions all along the West Coast have access to cheap tickets.

Beware of Disneyland Tickets That Are Too Cheap!

Evil Queen Fantasyland

NEVER buy tickets from an online source that is not affiliated with Disney. If it seems too good to be true, it often is.

discount disneyland tickets for sale

eBay and Craigslist are filled with spammy park ticket sellers. Be careful and don’t buy tickets from them! There are stories every year about people’s identities being stolen and tickets being faked. Avoid these people trying to sell Disneyland tickets.

Warning signs for spammy sites:

  • Make sure that Disney is NOT in the original URL (ie www. disney discount tickets for sale .com). Disney doesn’t allow affiliates selling tickets to have the Disney name in the URL. The authorized resellers are allowed to have Disney written in the url after the slash mark (for example www. get away today .com / disneyland – discount – tickets)
  • If the site wants to have you meet and pick up the tickets the morning of, this is evidence that the tickets may already be used. Authorized resellers have the ability to send your tickets directly to the Disneyland ticket booths for you to pick up.
  • No sites may sell discounted 1-day tickets. Do NOT buy a discounted one-day ticket.
  • Do not ever pay with a debit card or cash, because these are both untraceable. If a site REQUIRES payment with either of these methods then Do NOT buy from them!

If any of this is true, this is a fake spammy website that is  NOT affiliated with Disney ! Do not buy park tickets from them.

Disneyland Special Event Tickets

Oogie Boogie Bash Agatha

Throughout the year, Disneyland offers special, separately-ticketed after-hours events like Disneyland After Dark nites and the Oogie Boogie Bash parties during the Halloween season. The Disneyland After Dark nites occur after the park's closing time and are offered in different themes like Sweethearts Nite and Star Wars Nite , and they offer unique entertainment, character meet and greets, specialty food and merchandise offerings, and more. The Oogie Boogie Bash parties held at Disney California Adventure also offer special entertainment, villain treat trails, rare character appearances, and more fun offerings.

For these special after-hours events, there are rarely discounted tickets offered. At one point, Get Away Today offered tickets for one of the less popular Disneyland After Dark events, but to see discounts for these events is very rare.

Disney Ticket Price Increase

Adventureland Disneyland

Disney continues to increase their prices as the crowds continue to purchase tickets. They have yet to reach the maximization point where the crowds and purchase amounts will stabilize. This may come from the fact that while expensive, a trip to a Disney Park or Universal Studios Hollywood is actually a fantastic deal and provides some of the best entertainment value in our time. You can see everything you need to know about Disney ticket price increases in our guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a one day Disneyland ticket?

The one day ticket prices fluctuate based on demand and range in price from $104-$194 for 1 park per day tickets. See our guide to Disneyland ticket prices for details on each of the tiers. Also, remember that there are never discount 1-day tickets offered to the general public.

When was the last time Disneyland raised prices?

Disneyland tickets increased in price October 2023. Though before the lockdown closures of Disneyland, ticket price increases were largely put into place at the beginning of the year, and Disney has recently increased ticket prices for Disneyland in October. (You can see the full 2024  crowds calendar and events calendar here ).

What is the difference between Disneyland one park per day and park hopper tickets?

Disneyland sells two types of passes, a park hopper pass and a one-park pass. With the park hopper pass you are able to access both Disney California Adventure and Disneyland in the same day. You aren't limited and by choosing this Disneyland ticket deal, you can start in one park and end in the other. Disneyland Ticket Deal Pro Tip:  Sometimes the lowest prices on ticket offers can be found when you book a package that includes both park tickets and a hotel near Disneyland. Read our guide to Disneyland vacation packages >

Should You Buy a Disneyland Magic Key Pass Instead?

To decide if you should purchase a Disneyland Magic Key Pass instead of a ticket, you'll need to do the math on which days of the year you want to visit and consider the black out dates for the pass. Also include the various other discounts in the decision. You can read  more on the Magic Key Pass program here .

Are Disneyland tickets more expensive at the gate?

Waiting to purchase Disneyland tickets at the gate is highly risky as Disneyland now utilizes a reservation system to manage theme park capacity and reservations do sell out. If reservations sell out you will not be able to purchase a ticket for that date. 1-day tickets are the same price at the gate as they are online, but you can only get discounts on multi-day tickets online.

Is Disneyland still free on your birthday?

In honor of the “what will you celebrate” advertising campaign, Disneyland would give you a free Disneyland ticket on your birthday or a $72 gift card if you already had an annual pass or ticket for that day. This campaign has long since been discontinued, but people still always wonder if Disneyland is free on your birthday. You can see tons of information on how to celebrate your birthday at Disneyland 2024 here .

Do California residents get special Disneyland discounts?

Yes, Disneyland will occasionally have special offers like the current Spring 2024 Disneyland Southern California Resident Discount ticket detailed here . Southern California Residents also have access to the SoCal Magic Key Pass when it is available for sale. Sometimes discount Disneyland tickets will also be offered for all California Residents.

How many years has Disneyland been open? What year did Walt Disney open Disneyland?

Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955 and will be turning 69 years old on July 17, 2024. The ticket prices have increased dramatically since the year the park opened. When Disneyland first opened to the park you would pay both a fee to enter and then pay a ticket for each attraction that you wanted to ride. Many cite these original Disneyland tickets as a great lesson in keeping personal finances and saving their varying levels of tickets for the best rides.

How can I get cheap Disneyland tickets?

The best way to get cheap park tickets is to take advantage of the information in this discount tickets guide and to price out all of the different options. Look at our chart of the very best prices, best prices when combined with a package, and other special Disneyland discounts covered on this page.

What is the Park Hopper Ticket at Disneyland? What is included with the Disneyland Park Hopper pass?

The Disneyland Park Hopper ticket allows you to see both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure on the same day. You are able to travel between the two theme parks as many time as you want during your stay. Because the theme parks at Disneyland are so much closer together than at Walt Disney World, we highly recommend this ticket type.

What should I do with an expired Disneyland ticket if I find it? Is it still valid?

You can apply the value of unused expired Disneyland tickets towards future ticket or Annual Pass purchases at Disneyland. Even the original letter tickets from Disneyland can still be redeemed for their face value–though you may get more for those tickets that originally cost 95 cents by selling them on eBay.

We have an entire article comparing Get Away Today vs Undercover Tourist for discount Disneyland tickets . When booking with the exclusive Mickey Visit discount for Get Away Today tickets, these tickets are less expensive than Undercover Tourist Disneyland tickets. Where to Buy Discount Disney Gift Cards

As one of our favorite ways to pay for a Disney Vacation, knowing where to get Discount Disney Gift Cards is key to saving money on a Disney Vacation. Many places offer Disney Gift Cards for Sale. You can buy Disney Gift Cards at most retailers, including your local grocery store, gas station, Target, Wal-Mart,  and more.  The best place to buy Disney gift cards

In this post, we’ll share where to get the best Disney Gift Card Deals and the best places to buy Disney Gift Cards. Keep in mind that since certain retailers are only in certain areas of the country, you may have even more places to buy Disney gift cards near you.

You can get Disney Gift Card Deals online and in-store. Retail locations like Target, Wal-Mart, Target, Sam’s Club, BJ’s Wholesale are best for discount Disney gift cards. But we’ll share some tried and true tactics to make sure you’re getting the best Disney gift card deals.

Can you Combine Disney Gift Cards?

Yes! So, let’s say you’ve been buying Disney Gift Cards throughout the year, and got some gift cards from friends and family. Suddenly, you have tons of Disney Gift Cards! Do you have to individually add them all on the Disney website to pay for your trip? Not necessarily! You can combine Disney Gift Cards on the Disney’s Gift Card Check Balance site. While you can only combine up to $1000 on one gift card, it makes all the difference when you’re paying off your vacation online.

Use Disney Gift Cards to Save For Your Vacation

Planning a Disney Vacation any time of year, should give you enough time to save! And what better way to save for a Disney Vacation that to collect Disney Gift Cards throughout the year.

Save 5 % on Disney Gift Cards with the Target Red Card

You can save 5% on Disney Gift Cards all year long with the Target Red Card. We most like the Target Red Card Debit Card, which simply connects to your bank account, so that you’re not racking up extra credit card fees or interest. All you need to do to save 5% and get discount Disney gift cards is use your Target Red Card at Checkout. A REDCard can save 5% on not only the Disney gift cards but also all gift cards in-store. This means you can also save 5% on airline gift cards, car rental gift cards, uber, and Starbucks. All the things you need when traveling with Disney.

You can even buy discount Disney Gift Cards online at Target.com. Simply add Disney Gift Cards to your cart, and pay with a REDcard at checkout to save 5%. Check out the Disney Gift Cards at Target so you can save 5% on your next Disney Trip. Incidentally, if you’re visiting Disneyland, Target also offers discount Disneyland Tickets on their website!

Grab Sam’s Club Disney Gift Cards on Sale and Save 4%

If you’re already a Sam’s Club member then you can get a $50 Disney Gift Card for about $48 dollars. While this isn’t as good as the Target offer. But, if you’re staring down a 2000 dollar vacation, you can save about 80 dollars with this offer.

Get 10% Off Disney Gift Cards using Cash Back with Rakuten and DOSH

True savers, and discount seekers already know about Rakuten, but did you know you can Get 10% Cash Back with Rakuten at a variety of retailers? And many of them sell Disney Gift Cards. Target, Sam’s Club, Walmart are all included. The money-saving app DOSH is similar and gives you cash back for purchases made through the app when you visit retailers online. Check out our 5 Best Apps to Save Money for even more options.

Get 5% Off Disney Giftcards with a Discover Card

If you’re a Discover card holder then you can take advantage of the Discover Rewards throughout the year!

You can earn 5% CASH BACK on a variety of retailers that sell giftcards! Including Disney Gift Cards. This means you can get Discount Disney Gift Cards, and get Cash Back at the same time! Retailers typically in the Discover Card Rewards program include Amazon.com, Target, Wal-Mart, Drug Stores, Gas Stations, etc. And they ALL carry Disney Gift Cards that you get 5% Cash Back on through Discover! Just be sure to activate your reward on the Discover Website, or in the Discover App as the reward periods arrive.

Get Cash Back on Disney Gift Cards with Capital One

If you’re going to have credit cards, might as well maximize the rewards, right? And Capital One has not only cash back, but also it’s shopping extension, which you can access from the computer or in the app. This option is also super flexible, because you can buy Disney gift cards anywhere that you would get Cash Back!

BJ’s Disney Gift Card Sales

You can grab a BJ’s One Day Pass to get access to a 24 hour window in which you can buy all the the discount Disney gift cards you’d like! You can typically get 3% off Disney Gift Cards at Bj’s. Making a 100 dollar giftcard about $96.99 instead. Again while 4 dollars off may not seem like the biggest Disney Gift Card Sale, it beats paying full price!

Stack Discounts for the Best Deals on Disney Gift Cards and get 10% Off.

No matter where you’re shopping, be sure to consider buying Disney gift cards with a Credit Card that earns Rewards or Cash Back! For instance, if you’re shopping at BJ’s or Walmart, or Sam’s Club, you can take advantage of the discount Disney Gift Cards AND stack your Cash Back or Rewards by using a Credit Card to pay for it. Adding even more savings.

An example is if you head to Sam’s Club and get 4% Off, then buy those gift cards with a 5% Cash Back Rewards Deal, you’d get a total of 9% off! That’s huge when you’re paying so much for a Disney trip!

Purchase Disney Gift Cards at a Grocery Store with Fuel Perks

One of our favorite Disney gift card hacks is to buy Disney Gift Cards at our local grocery store with gas station perks. In the north we have Giant Eagle, but there are many grocery chains, like Kroger, that are nationwide and offer discounts on fuel too. This means that you can get a Disney Gift Card on Sale and then also gets discounts on fuel while you’re there!

Discounted Disney Gift Cards

There are so many ways to Save Money at Disney, that buying Disney Gift Cards at a Discount just makes sense. And since Disney just gets more and more expensive, why not save some money while you’re at it! No matter where you buy Disney Gift Cards, hopefully this post has helped you find your best way to get Disney Gift Cards at a discount.

TouringPlans Travel Beat 6-1-2024

At Travel Beat we have all the “other” news from the last week or so—the stuff that wasn’t big enough to stop the presses for. What did the newsroom bring us this week? Bullets are just ahead if you’re in a hurry, and more details follow below. Don’t forget to check out the Headline News Recap, in case there was something you missed!

Disney Legend Richard Sherman Passes Away

Epic universe preview center to open at citywalk, disneyland temporary closures and construction updates, the walls are down at tiana’s bayou adventure in disney world, royal caribbean announces status match program, captain mickey graces the bow of the disney adventure, lookout cay holds completion ceremony, pride month treats at disney world and disneyland, starfall racers → stardust racers at epic universe, new photopass magic shots roll out across disney world, headline news recap.

Can you guess which story inspired this week’s cover image? Leave your guesses in the comments!

In case the name is unfamiliar to you, Richard Sherman was one half of the Sherman Brothers songwriting duo, along with his brother Robert Sherman. The Sherman Brothers’ tunes permeate the parks, found on attractions from it’s a small world (yep, they wrote that) to Journey Into Imagination. And they are no less represented in the movies, where they are to thank for everyone’s favorite tongue twister “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” along with other tunes from Mary Poppins to the Jungle Book to the Aristocats — and more. Sherman died of age-related illness on May 25 at the age of 95; Disney’s statement can be found here .

There’s a lot of excitement about Universal’s new Epic Universe park that’s opening in 2025, but if you’re visiting Universal in 2025 you’ll be able to get at least a taste of what’s coming. Universal is opening a new preview center for the park at CityWalk, featuring augmented reality experiences, photo ops with backgrounds featuring each of the park’s five portal worlds, plus a bird’s-eye scale model of the park. Epic Universe merch will also be available for purchase.

With work ongoing in both New Orleans Square (Haunted Mansion) and Critter Country (Tiana’s Bayou Adventure), Disneyland has announced (or confirmed as ongoing) several operational updates and temporary closures over the next few months.

  • The bridge connecting New Orleans Square with Galaxy’s Edge will temporarily close beginning July 8. Guests will need to enter Galaxy’s Edge using the Frontierland entrance.
  • Haunted Mansion is closed for the queue reimagining. Due to work in this area, guests will not be able to board or debark the Disneyland Railroad at the station in New Orleans Square.
  • Popcorn and churro carts may be temporarily relocated.
  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open later this year
  • The Briar Patch and Pooh Corner are currently closed for transformations that will bring Ray’s Berets and Louis’ Critter Club to these locations.
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is closed and will reopen with the land
  • Hungry Bear Restaurant will temporarily close for a kitchen refurb beginning July 8, 2024, along with the nearby restrooms.
  • Davey Crockett’s Explorer Canoes will temporarily close beginning July 8, 2024

Cast Member previews for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure start this week, with Annual Passholder and Disney Vacation Club Member Previews to follow. So it’s fitting that the construction walls came down on Thursday to reveal the finished attraction. Doesn’t she look fine?

If you’re a frequent traveler then you’re familiar with airlines that match status for each other’s loyalty programs. New this week, Royal Caribbean has announced that it will match status across its wholly-owned brands Celebrity and Silversea. What this means: if you are a member of Royal Caribbean’s Crown & Anchor Society, Celebrity’s Captain’s Club, or Silversea’s Venetian Society, then you can enjoy equivalent status in the other two programs according to the chart below.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Cruisers with status in multiple programs will receive the perks of the highest tier, but points will not be pooled across programs. So if you’re Diamond Plus in the Crown & Anchor Society and it’s your first Celebrity cruise, then your points will go towards the Captain’s Club and not to additional Crown & Anchor status.

Most eyes have been focused on the Disney Treasure and the newly named Disney Destiny cruise ships, but the Disney Adventure has been working its way towards a sail date in 2025. The former Global Dream will be sailing out of Singapore, and Disney released a preview of the bow art featuring Captain Mickey this week.

Lookout Cay will see its first visitors this coming week (including some of our team; look for snaps on our socials as the Magic makes its visit). So it’s a good thing the island destination is ready; a completion ceremony was held at the island’s Goombay Cultural Center on Thursday. Representatives from the Bahamian government and Disney Cruise Line, along with community leaders, assembled for the program, which included a performance by a group of Junkanoo performances from the winning teams of a local school Junkanoo competition. And of course, there was a photo op with some of the island’s new mouse inhabitants.

June is Pride Month and Disney has rolled out a variety of treats at parks on both coasts to celebrate. At Disney World, look for the Pride Liege Waffle at Connections Cafe and the Pride cupcake, available at multiple locations, in addition to other Pride-themed snacks and treats throughout the parks and Disney Springs.

At Disneyland, in addition to the featured food items you’ll find Pride-focused novelties available at multiple locations. Pictured below, the Pride Bottle Topper and Pride Stainless Steel Tumbler.

Universal Orlando is still making adjustments to its Epic Universe lineup — the attractions are set, but the names aren’t final until they’re printed in the app. The Starfall Racers attraction had been previously announced for the Celestial portal of the new park, but this week Universal changed the name to Stardust Racers in response to a copyright challenge.

Magic Shots bring a little extra … well, magic to your pictures taken by Disney’s PhotoPass team, and now there are more opportunities than ever for some techno-dazzle to spice up your vacation pics. Disney is rolling out several new shots at various locations throughout the parks, including the on-ride photos from Tiana’s Bayou Adventure that will debut with the ride on June 28th. And at Disney Springs you can stop by the PhotoPass Studio for both standard pics and Magic Shots with a new beachy backdrop to celebrate the summer.

What Disney’s Bold, Exciting Hotel Experiment Was Missing

By Brian Delpozo Leave a Comment

Months after its closing, Disney’s Star Wars Hotel is STILL a hot topic of conversation.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Bunk Bed in a Galactic Starcruiser cabin

The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is going to go down as one of the most fascinating projects undertaken by the Walt Disney Company. Some would argue it was an ahead of its time, unforgettable interactive experience that immersed users in the Star Wars universe. Others may refer to it as an overpriced boondoggle that underdelivered on its premise. What can’t be denied is that it “failed” in the sense that it closed forever just 19 months after opening . So, is there anything Disney could have done differently? Well, maybe.

Before we get into some thoughts on what Disney could have changed, here’s a quick reminder what a voyage on the Starcruiser was like.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

A stay at the hotel was structured like a stay on a luxury cruise liner. In-universe, the hotel was themed to be the Halcyon, a large space-faring ship that traversed the Star Wars galaxy. The two-night experience — which cost a whopping $4,800 minimum for two people (the price did include all activitis and dining, in addition to your room) — would begin with boarding the ship at 1:00PM on the first day of your “voyage.”

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Crowds in the Galactic Starcruiser’s Atrium

Over the next two days, you’d encounter characters (both physically and on the Datapad app that provided the narrative backbone of the experience) launching you into various branching storylines linked to the Star Wars saga across different areas of the “ship” including a visit to the ship’s bridge, cargo bay, engine room, Lightsaber training, and your meals in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room and the Sublight Lounge.

On the second day of your stay, you’d take an early morning “space journey” to Batuu (AKA Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios ). This wasn’t just any typical visit to the park however, as you’d be transported to the park in an enclosed bus that was designed on the interior to look like apace vessel. You’d arrive in the land through a special entrance, slightly before the park was open for the day, and experience Galaxy’s Edge in a way that would be almost impossible as a day guest, all the while continuing on “missions” assigned through your Datapad that furthered the on-going narrative. After returning to the ship, the story would climax with a final encounter with the First Order that tied together many of the story threads that had been building throughout the trip. Departure was at 10:00AM the following morning.

Characters on the Starcruiser

Now, there were MANY who loved their experience on the Starcruiser, and lament its loss to this day. However, there are many more who never even considered booking a Galactic Starcruiser stay . So what could Disney have done? Now, there are small changes that could have been made to the voyage and experience, from which characters appeared to how story elements were introduced and etc. However, we believe that more would have been necessary.

There have been many debates about whether the Galactic Starcruiser was “worth” the price . However, even if it was by the numbers, we believe that the sticker shock of spending “$2,800 for two nights at a hotel” was something many potential guests could never get past  ( even if the Galactic Starcruiser was much more than a hotel ). Now, lowering the price substantially was likely a non-starter, so our thought is that Disney could have beefed up the overall package.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

Magic Kingdom

Things may have turned out very differently for the Galactic Starcruiser had Disney attached two nights at a Walt Disney World value resort (with the option of upgrading to moderate or deluxe resorts for an additional fee) plus two days of theme park tickets to the package. It would have turned the two-day Star Wars hotel experience into a 4-day Walt Disney World vacation that simply featured the Starcruiser stay, we believe eliminating much of the overall sticker shock factor. Plus financially, Disney would likely make up any extra costs simply by having guests on property — and in their parks — for two extra days.

disney cruise and disney plus discount

The Starcruiser Bridge

There were arguably many “mistakes” made that led to the “failure” of the Galactic Starcruiser, however we believe that fleshing out the package into a “full” Disney World vacation may have helped the hotel survive and thrive. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney history.

Why the journey is the destination when it comes to Alaska cruises

disney cruise and disney plus discount

They say getting there is half the fun. Usually, I disagree. When I travel, I want to get to where I’m going as quickly as possible to make the most of my time there. However, sailing Celebrity Edge on its maiden Alaska voyage from Seattle, I was all about the journey.

Staring up at the snow-capped mountains through the ship’s floor-to-ceiling windows and watching for wildlife in the icy waters below, I was mesmerized by the famed Last Frontier. And I realized that on an Alaska cruise , the journey is a destination.

Here’s why and what travelers should know about cruising Alaska.

Why is Alaska a popular cruise destination?

Alaska is a bucket-list destination for many people. Some may wait their whole lives for the trip. While Alaska Airlines and other carriers fly throughout America’s largest state , it isn’t as easy to navigate as the Lower 48.

Cruises allow travelers to visit multiple destinations without taking separate flights, renting a car or moving from hotel to hotel. My Edge itinerary included stops in Ketchikan, which is surrounded by the lush Tongass National Forest ; the state capital of Juneau, which is only accessible by air or sea; and Skagway, home of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park . The ship also carefully navigated the stunning Endicott Arm fjord toward Dawes Glacier, a highlight of the trip.

The easy trip can also be more accessible for people with mobility issues and other disabilities. Like other cruise lines, Celebrity has a team dedicated to accessible cruising . Numerous guests on board my sailing used walkers, canes or wheelchairs. Plus, it’s just nice to be able to take in the dramatic coastlines from the comfort of a cozy cabin or lounge when it’s chilly outside.

Are cruises to Alaska worth it?

They can be. At last check, the lowest price on a seven-night Celebrity Edge Alaska Dawes Glacier sailing, roundtrip from Seattle, for the remainder of this summer is listed at $778 per person on the cruise line’s website, based on double occupancy in an inside stateroom. That does not include travel to or from Seattle nor any taxes or fees, which can balloon the bottom line on any cruise. Nor does it include promotional discounts, which are pretty much always available. After taxes and fees, that works to about $2,212 for two people or $1,106 per person.

The cheapest seven-night Southbound Glacier sailing on the Edge’s sister ship, Celebrity Summit , is much less at $249 per person, based on double occupancy in an inside stateroom. It’s worth noting the Southbound voyage goes from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver, British Columbia, not a round trip. Also the Summit is not an Edge-class ship , The Celebrity Edge is the first Edge class ship to sail Alaska; it was also the first ship in Celebrity’s most recent series, which also includes the new Celebrity Ascent . Edge-class ships were designed to bring guests closer than ever to their destinations, with their signature Magic Carpet cantilevered platform that extends beyond the ship’s edge and other features that bring the outside in. After taxes and fees, the Summit sailing adds up to about $1,231 for two people or about $615 a person.

Both are cheaper than flying between cities and staying at hotels for a week in Alaska, but they're also cheaper than other popular vacations. For example, seven nights at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort , a value resort at Walt Disney World , costs $955 for the room alone, including taxes and a summer promo deal. Adding seven days of park tickets, without park hopping, and the total becomes $2,195 for two people or about $1,098 per person, excluding food.

Meanwhile, cruises include all onboard meals – except optional specialty dining and alcohol. There are also a boatload of included activities, like nature talks, tai chi classes, guided arts and crafts, trivia, games and childcare. There’s live music available through the day and nightly stage shows. I sampled a little bit of everything, but for me, the best part of the ship was the views.

Inside Ascent: 3 takeaways from Celebrity Cruises' new ship

Do you see wildlife on an Alaskan cruise?

Yes. I saw whale spouts three times from the ship, though the whales didn’t breach above water. I also saw a handful of harbor seals and a dozen eagles from the ship and from shore. Bald eagles are so common in Alaska that a tour bus driver jokingly called them bald seagulls. There are 30,000 bald eagles in the state, according to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.

I kept an eye out for bears on an excursion to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, which is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. I didn’t see any walking along the paved, wheelchair-accessible Nugget Falls Trail, but I did spot all sorts of spring buds and the most beautiful moss.

The ship’s onboard naturalist gave us a heads-up on what to look for and taught us about various species in presentations in the ship’s theater. She also broadcasted live on the ship’s TV channel and inside speakers while traveling through the Endicott Arm. However, her voice wasn’t carried on outside speakers to avoid potentially disturbing wildlife.

What is the best month to go on a cruise to Alaska?

The Alaska cruise season runs from late April to early October, though dates vary by cruise line. Guests who sail early or late in the season may find lower rates than during the height of the summer, but they may miss out on warmer weather.

It was in the 40s to 50s most days of my May sailing, and it rained on our Juneau day. The onboard naturalist warned that there is no bad weather in Alaska, only poor clothing choices.

How much should I budget for an Alaskan cruise?

You should pad your budget with several hundred extra dollars for excursions and dining off-ship. Both can be pricey but enriching. My Mendenhall Glacier excursion was just under $130, including transportation and an off-site Gold Creek Salmon Bake , with all-you-can-eat fresh salmon cooked over a wood-burning fire.  I’ve never had better fried fish than the local halibut at The Alaska Fish House in Ketchikan, and I will be dreaming of the sweet, plump red king crab at Tracy’s King Crab Shack in Juneau for years to come.  If you want freshly caught Alaska seafood, you’ll want to get it at port.

You may be able to spot whales from the cruise ship, but if you really want to go whale watching, salmon fishing, dog sledding, or get up close to glaciers, that’s generally going to require an excursion. Excursions offered through cruise lines tend to cost more than those booked independently, but booking through the cruise line can streamline payment and ensure that the ship won’t leave without you if the excursion runs late.

One port you can enjoy on the cheap is Skagway. You can explore several exhibits and historic buildings on your own, as part of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. However many visitors splurge on a scenic train ride on the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway up to the Canadian border and back.

Is it worth getting a balcony on a cruise?

Yes and no. The views throughout Alaska are breathtaking, and being able to enjoy them from your cabin any time of day feels luxurious. I loved waking up to mountains, thick with trees, outside my window and scanning the waters for marinelife before bed.

Just over 80% of Celebrity Edge’s staterooms have a balcony. I had an Infinite Veranda , which is unique to Edge-class ships. Rather than a traditional balcony with a sliding glass door, Infinite Verandas incorporate what would be exterior balcony space into the interior of the cabin and have a window that slides halfway down the exterior wall with the push of a button. I loved how much bigger it made the cabin feel and appreciated the extra climate-controlled living space. It was still chilly during my early season sailing, so I rarely put the window down and think I would have enjoyed a non-balcony, oceanview room just as much.

Of course, if you book an inside cabin, you can still enjoy the scenery from public areas of any ship. The Celebrity Edge brings the outside in with tons of windows, including in the buffet restaurant, Oceanview Cafe, where I spotted my first whale spout. In the back of the ship, there’s a relaxing mixed-use space called Eden with three stories of windows that I found myself drawn to daily. The solarium, with its tall windows and rows of lounge chairs, also offered expansive views.

Do I need a passport for an Alaskan cruise?

Maybe. For a closed-loop cruise that starts and ends in the same U.S. port, like the one I was on, all you need is proof of citizenship.

“According to U.S. Customs & Border Protection, this includes an Enhanced Driver’s License, which is a state-issued driver’s license that provides proof of identity and U.S. citizenship; a government-issued birth certificate (issued by the Vital Records Department in the state where the person was born) or passport; and if 16 or older, a government-issued driver’s license or picture ID denoting photo, name, and date of birth,” according to Celebrity.

Of course, not all Alaska cruises are closed-loop cruises. Some start or end in Vancouver, Canada. There are also cruises on several smaller U.S.-flagged cruise lines like Alaska Dream Cruises and Uncruise Adventures , which may not require passports depending on the itinerary.

Can you see the Northern Lights on an Alaska cruise?

It’s possible, but because daylight hours are so long during the summer in Alaska, the best chance to see them would be on a cruise late in the season.

I woke up in the middle of the night a few times to look for Northern Light. I didn’t see any, but I heard passengers on a previous sailing spotted them. Then again, so did people all across the country during the solar storm earlier this month.
