We have just moved to Atlanta from Canada so we are going to start some new holiday traditions! Usually we get hot chocolate from Tim Hortons and go through the Christmas light display at the local zoo. It’s quite different here in GA without the snow!! We were going to take our 3 boys to the Coca Cola museum and visit Stone Mountain. We have a few other Christmas festivals to check out and hopefully some new traditions are created!

Our favorite holiday tradition is to have a holiday white elephant gift exchange ($10 and under) on Christmas Eve with our extended family on both sides. Combine 30-40 crazy relatives, zany unique gifts, and plenty of ‘spirits’ with Christmas snacks and you get an annual ridiculously hilarious Christmas memory!

Every year my family and I make a vow to spend more time together. That was hard with the pandemic and my sister and I are adults now out of the house; she’s a traveling nurse and I’m a teacher. One of the traditions that is a non-negotiable is decorating the tree together as a family. It’ maybe a small tradition, but we take great pride in decorating the Christmas tree and the home we grew up in. We play Christmas music, dance, laugh, and reminisce about past Christmases when we get together. It’s an amazing time and even with busy schedules and a pandemic that has no end in sight, now more than ever we make it a priority to do this with each other every year.

Each of our 8 differnt families have a theme. We wrap their gifts in their theme. We make cut-out cookies for their theme. Each family is given a dated ornament of their theme by monarch and they give an ornament of their theme to the monarch and 7 families.

And when they and their children arrive for Christmas Eve, they are wearing PJ’s of their theme.

It is so fun to look at the tree and the ornaments from Christmas past to remember the years. There is a special tree decorated with family members who have passed. Each ornament has a dated picture and is created by that individual family.

My favorite memory is my family going to church on Christmas Eve. Halfway through the service the choir began to sing Joy To The World. When it came time for the chorus the man behind us sang “and heaven and nature sing” VERY loudly in a booming baritone voice. Needless to say it initially scared us and then we broke out in little girl giggles. Great memory of the joy of my youth 🥰

My absolutely favorite holiday tradition was “Adopting a family!” Every year my mom would adopt family (or multiple) and my siblings and I would help her pick out their gifts! One year we got to meet the family, I was a teenager but seeing their faces and how grateful they were for the gifts made my heart soar! We would also spend a lot of our time at shelters during the holidays loving on people. I’m so thankful my mom made that a regular thing for us, it helped to keep us grounded and in a place of being thankful for all we have. I can’t wait to continue this tradition with my boys!! Happy Holidays!!

My absolute favorite tradition that my boyfriend’s family started and has invited me to be a part of is gathering together at a cabin in North GA. Last year, we watched Christmas movies, made hot chocolate bombs, did jigsaw puzzles together, and cozied up by the fire while the snow fell. We’re going again this year and I’m excited to decorate sugar cookies and wear silly Christmas sweaters with them!

Our family loves to ride around of the weekend evenings during the month of December and look at all the holiday lights. We’ve done this every since the kids were babies and although they are teenagers and college aged students now they still enjoy this family tradition. We have a few light displays that are local to us that the neighbors put on every year but I try to find a new display that we haven’t seen before that we drive to view. I hope the kids continue this as they start their own families!

Six years ago my Mom moved here from NC to an assisted living facility. She was moving from her home, her friends, her whole life. My circle of friends immediately pitched in to help, inviting her to Christmas parties and tickets to shows. But the best part were my i-laws, who threw open their doors for a elderly old lady they’d not ever met. She loved the attention, and the laughter of children and the craziness of gifts and food. It was something I could never give her where she lived, and it was gratifying to see her eyes light up.

Made in Australia: The history of Coca‑Cola ‘down under’

coca cola factory tour sydney

It is a globally recognised brand, but did you know Coca‑Cola has also been made in Australia, by and for Australians, for eight decades?

We take a trip back through time to 1938 to trace the history and impact of Coca‑Cola in Australia.

Birth in Atlanta

The story began in Atlanta, USA, in 1886, whenCoca‑Cola inventor  Dr John Pemberton  took his jug of syrup and soda mix down the street to Jacob’s Pharmacy and  staff decided to put it on sale for five cents a glass.

Thinking that "the two Cs would look well in advertising," Dr. Pemberton's partner and bookkeeper, Frank M. Robinson, suggested the name and penned the now famous trademark "Coca‑Cola" in his unique script. With a stroke of the pen he created an  icon  that would last more than  a hundred years .

The rest, as they say, is history.

Arrival in Australia: 1900s

While Coke was imported to Australia from the United States in the early 1900s, it wasn’t until 1938 that The Coca‑Cola Company  began production locally.

The first Australian-made bottle of Coca‑Cola rolled off the bottling lines in 1938 in a small building on the corner of Crescent and Dowling Street in Waterloo, Sydney.

It all rested on the shoulders of just one famous drink, 10 staff and four trucks.

Early days: 1930s

The early days for Coca‑Cola in Australia weren’t easy. The capital city markets were small by international standards and geographically separated.

It was also an unknown product, initially sold to shopkeepers by the bottle – literally. A former Coca‑Cola salesman from Adelaide, Bob Jemison, recalled vigorously persuading a shopkeeper to take a single bottle. The following week, he talked the shopkeeper into taking two bottles.

By 1939 plants were operating in a number of locations around  Australia, just in time for the outbreak of World War II. In 1941, a turning point arrived when President of The Coca‑Cola Company, R. W. Woodruff, decided to make Coca‑Cola available to all US service men and women, wherever they were, whatever the cost.

Australian plants supplied not only Americans but Australian service men and women, from urban bases to ‘jungle units’ stationed in the Pacific theatre.

During the war the small Coca‑Cola plant in Brisbane became the focus of this operation, with manufacturing often running 24 hours a day to service the United States South Pacific headquarters, also located in Brisbane.

After the war, Australia saw an influx of US servicemen who brought with them new music,  American style coffee , and of course, a love for Coca‑Cola.

Post war boom: 1950s

By 1950 the post-war economy had stabilised and The Coca‑Cola Company began to grant franchises across Australia.

At one stage, Coca‑Cola was bottled in 30 different locations throughout Australia from small, single-town bottler serviced country towns such as Inverell and Cairns, to large conglomerate bottlers spanning regional areas.

It was a time of cultural change, too. In Perth, radio announcer and DJ Colin Nichol was one of millions of young people all over the world who signed up for the Coca‑Cola Hi-Fi Club. As host of the local chapter he had access to rock and roll records never before heard in Australia, helping bring a new sound to our shores and providing a venue for our own homegrown artists.

The reach of Coca‑Cola products grew steadily due to  innovation  in computerised bottling systems, new delivery methods, and the introduction of high-speed packaging technology.

Ultimately the many bottling companies and franchise territories were consolidated into the single territory held by Coca‑ColaAmatil today.

Nightlife and city lights: 1970s

coca cola factory tour sydney

The Coca‑Cola sign created an unmistakable landmark, one that defined the area that quickly became known as ‘The Gateway to the Cross’.

Amongst the bright lights of the 1970’s shone the famous  Kings Cross Coca‑Cola sign . Taking pride of place above the intersection of Darlinghurst Road and William Street in Sydney’s  Kings Cross , the red and white neon sign has featured in news photography, happy snaps, films, and music videos. For Sydney locals it grew into an iconic meeting place - “We’ll meet  you under the Coke sign!”

The 1974 Coca‑Cola sign created  an unmistakable landmark , one that defined the area that quickly became known as ‘The Gateway to the Cross’.

When an upgrade to the Kings Cross billboard was needed, letters from the original Coca‑Cola sign were  auctioned off in 2016 , with all proceeds going directly to local charity Wayside Chapel.

Coca‑Cola first hosted Kings Cross as an official VIVID precinct in 2017, when the billboard came alive with  portraits of Kings Cross locals .

Also in 2017, Australia participated in a postal vote for marriage equality, and Coca‑Cola showed its support by issuing limited-edition   ‘Love’ cans ’ and emblazonging ‘Say Yes to Love’ on its famous billboard in Kings Cross. The Love cans were the first time in 130 years that the iconic Spencerian script had been used for something other than the Coca‑Cola logo on its packaging.

Long gone are the days of ten staff and four trucks and one famous beverage. Today, Coca‑Cola Australia and Coca‑Cola Amatil employ almost 4,000 employees directly, with another 10,000 employed through production and supply and locally it now offers 165 drinks across 25 brands.

2018 is the 80th anniversary of Coca‑Cola being made in Australia. Find out how we’re celebrating with a locally made TV commercial, a flipped script, and a little help from our friends down under.

An iconic American brand has lost its cool in Australia. Now a takeover is looming.

Kings Cross Coca-Cola sign

It is a symbol of American-style capitalism. But in Australia, the soft-drink Coca-Cola has lost some of its fizz, and a corporate takeover is tipped by some as its best chance of continuing growth.

Key points:

  • The iconic fizzy drink brand is sold in Australia by a local company with franchise rights
  • That company is now the subject of a European takeover bid
  • Investors are set to bid on the takeover in early 2021

Since the 1960s, the brown fizzy drink has been made and sold in Australia by a local company, Coca-Cola Amatil.

This has been done under a franchise agreement with the American brand's head office in the United States, The Coca-Cola Company.

Today, CCA has the rights to the drink across Australia, New Zealand, PNG, Fiji and Indonesia, and has dozens of factories across these regions that make it.

And these rights don't just cover selling the drink to supermarkets and petrol stations, although these are its biggest market. CCA also owns the rights to sell it as a syrup to venues, such as cinemas, fast food stores and pizza chains.

But the arrangement is complicated.

Almost a third of CCA is owned by the US parent company, giving it a controlling stake. The rest is owned by a range of shareholders on the ASX.

Australian finance analyst Paul Rickard bought shares in CCA a decade ago, as part of his superannuation portfolio.

"Coca-Cola Amatil has always been an iconic brand with great assets," he said.

"It has a big business here in Australia but also good growth prospects in PNG, Indonesia and the Pacific islands. I thought it could leverage that.

"But I think for many shareholders, it has been a pretty disappointing company."

What issues has CCA been grappling with?

Arthur Corcoris has been selling Coca-Cola in his two family-owned supermarkets in Melbourne for 40 years.

In the early 90s, when sugar was king and John Farnham was its Australian brand ambassador, the fizzy drink had almost had an entire aisle to itself in his supermarkets.

"It was our number one SKU. Our number one seller," Mr Corcoris said.

"Everybody was buying Coke. It was huge with adults. Younger people. People were mixing it in spirits.

"It was really quite a huge part of our business but over the years it has demised to a smaller part of our business.

"The sugar content and concerns by people about what they put into their bodies has affected its sales."

a man in a supermarket aisle with soft drink

The brand has fought back against the anti-sugar movement with diet versions of the signature brand. But as time goes on, consumers have been walking past fizzy carbonated drinks altogether.

Mr Corcoris drinks' aisle is now a rainbow of options: Bottled water. Diet drinks. Iced tea and milk. Energy and sports drinks. And the latest fad, fermented tea.

"Young people love that kombucha drink," Mr Corcoris said.

As a company, CCA has been trying to move with the times. But as a franchisee, it is in a complicated situation. A lot of things require approval from the fatherland.

In its latest annual statement , CCA noted that its arrangement with the US parent company "prohibit us from producing, promoting or selling any non-alcoholic beverage without (their) consent".

There is a phrase for this bureaucratic predicament within CCA. Employees call it "The Coke Machine".

Some of the markets it has chased include tea, spirits, and flavoured milk.

For instance, it bought up a small Australian kombucha company in late 2018, as the craze was getting into full swing.

One of its more unpopular decisions was buying up Australian canned fruit company SPC in 2005. It pumped $250 million into it over 14 years and then sold if off again last year for just $15 million profit .

In another setback, it was dumped by pizza chain Dominos in favour of Pepsi in 2017, meaning that at least in that round, its rival finally won the Pepsi challenge.

One area that the company has succeeded in is bottled water. According to IBISWorld, CCA controls almost 70 per cent of that market in Australia.

But that area has not been without its own challenges, too.

Brands owned by supermarkets, dubbed private label, have made huge inroads into the bottled water space and forced prices, and therefore revenue, down overall for everybody competing.

"We have our own (private label) water that sells very, very cheap at $5.20 for a case of 24," Mr Corcoris said.

"This is what those major companies are now up against."

All big grocery brands are battling changing tastes

Anne Ricci is a marketing and brand consultant that advises major grocery brands in Australia.

"Consumers needs are changing rapidly. Consumers are becoming more health conscious and value conscious," she said.

a woman at a laptop

"It's really hard for big brands to stay relevant with the younger consumers. Millennials are more attracted to small niche brands. They stay away from the corporate.

"New brands are popping out of the woodworks every day. And often they're brands that can target really small niche segments or an emerging trend that it's harder for a big brand like Coca-Cola to go after.

"They're set up to make millions and millions of Coke bottles every year. They find it hard to go after some of those smaller opportunities.

"And those opportunities in single form may seem small, but the collective impact of those small brands make a significant impact on big brands in Australia.

"Big brands have to be acting with speed and pace and agility, rather than this slow steady brand building they've been doing in the past. They need to be nimble to keep up, and that's hard to do in a big organisation."

coca cola factory tour sydney

To its credit, it appears CCA has been making some inroads.

After steady declines from 2012, IBIS World data shows its revenue stream from its core fizzy drink market was rising again in 2018.

And in February, the company posted sales growth in its core market Australia for the first time in seven years, off the back of good diet drink sales and a few other newer trends.

As a shareholder, Paul Rickard believes this has been a bit too little, too late.

"I don't think they've leveraged the opportunities they had offshore particularly in Indonesia where they're still a distant second to their first competitor, Pepsi," he said.

"I think it's tough running a sugary drinks business. I think, in fairness to the current leadership team, they've done a reasonable job, but for shareholders, it hasn't been a winner."

Company set to be swallowed up

Two years ago, another global franchisee of Coca-Cola started circling.

The European wing's initial offer to buy Coca-Cola Amatil at $10 a share was knocked back by the board. Last month, it came back with another $9.3b bid that works out to $12.75 a share.

In a complicated deal, the US parent company has also offered to sell its third share in CCA to the European bottler for a cheaper price, meaning that it clearly wants the deal to happen.

"We believe it is in the best interests of the shareowners of both companies and of the Coca-Cola system overall," the US company said last month.

"We are confident that by combining the significant strengths and capabilities of CCEP and Amatil, we will unlock further growth and value in their important markets."

The deal has already been recommended by the CCA board and will be voted on by shareholders in early 2021.

Several of its larger shareholders, including an Irish investment company, have come out saying the offer still isn't high enough.

But retail investor Mr Rickard believes it is a fair offer.

"I'm not surprised that a franchise of the parent company wants to buy CCA," he said.

"It's been partly owned by the US parent. The only option for shareholders is that the parent should buy or an affiliate should buy and that's exactly what has happened.

"I think shareholders will take the money and say: thank you very much."

In a sign that shareholders already likely back the deal, CCA's share-price has risen very close to the $12.75 offer from Europe in recent weeks .

International tourism, number of arrivals - Country Ranking

Definition: International inbound tourists (overnight visitors) are the number of tourists who travel to a country other than that in which they have their usual residence, but outside their usual environment, for a period not exceeding 12 months and whose main purpose in visiting is other than an activity remunerated from within the country visited. When data on number of tourists are not available, the number of visitors, which includes tourists, same-day visitors, cruise passengers, and crew members, is shown instead. Sources and collection methods for arrivals differ across countries. In some cases data are from border statistics (police, immigration, and the like) and supplemented by border surveys. In other cases data are from tourism accommodation establishments. For some countries number of arrivals is limited to arrivals by air and for others to arrivals staying in hotels. Some countries include arrivals of nationals residing abroad while others do not. Caution should thus be used in comparing arrivals across countries. The data on inbound tourists refer to the number of arrivals, not to the number of people traveling. Thus a person who makes several trips to a country during a given period is counted each time as a new arrival.

Development Relevance: Tourism is officially recognized as a directly measurable activity, enabling more accurate analysis and more effective policy. Whereas previously the sector relied mostly on approximations from related areas of measurement (e.g. Balance of Payments statistics), tourism today possesses a range of instruments to track its productive activities and the activities of the consumers that drive them: visitors (both tourists and excursionists). An increasing number of countries have opened up and invested in tourism development, making tourism a key driver of socio-economic progress through export revenues, the creation of jobs and enterprises, and infrastructure development. As an internationally traded service, inbound tourism has become one of the world's major trade categories. For many developing countries it is one of the main sources of foreign exchange income and a major component of exports, creating much needed employment and development opportunities.

Limitations and Exceptions: Tourism can be either domestic or international. The data refers to international tourism, where the traveler's country of residence differs from the visiting country. International tourism consists of inbound (arrival) and outbound (departures) tourism. The data are from the World Tourism Organization (WTO), a United Nations agency. The data on inbound and outbound tourists refer to the number of arrivals and departures, not to the number of people traveling. Thus a person who makes several trips to a country during a given period is counted each time as a new arrival. The data on inbound tourism show the arrivals of nonresident tourists (overnight visitors) at national borders. When data on international tourists are unavailable or incomplete, the data show the arrivals of international visitors, which include tourists, same-day visitors, cruise passengers, and crew members.

Statistical Concept and Methodology: Statistical information on tourism is based mainly on data on arrivals and overnight stays along with balance of payments information. These data do not completely capture the economic phenomenon of tourism or provide the information needed for effective public policies and efficient business operations. Data are needed on the scale and significance of tourism. Information on the role of tourism in national economies is particularly deficient. Although the World Tourism Organization reports progress in harmonizing definitions and measurement, differences in national practices still prevent full comparability. Arrivals data measure the flows of international visitors to the country of reference: each arrival corresponds to one in inbound tourism trip. If a person visits several countries during the course of a single trip, his/her arrival in each country is recorded separately. In an accounting period, arrivals are not necessarily equal to the number of persons travelling (when a person visits the same country several times a year, each trip by the same person is counted as a separate arrival). Arrivals data should correspond to inbound visitors by including both tourists and same-day non-resident visitors. All other types of travelers (such as border, seasonal and other short-term workers, long-term students and others) should be excluded as they do not qualify as visitors. Data are obtained from different sources: administrative records (immigration, traffic counts, and other possible types of controls), border surveys or a mix of them. If data are obtained from accommodation surveys, the number of guests is used as estimate of arrival figures; consequently, in this case, breakdowns by regions, main purpose of the trip, modes of transport used or forms of organization of the trip are based on complementary visitor surveys.

France’s Tourism Journey: The Constant Contender

france tourist arrivals by country

When it comes to tourism, France has never been an underdog. Is France the most visited country in the world? Absolutely. In fact, for over 30 years, it’s been the number one tourist destination.  So how big is France’s tourism industry? It employed a solid 1.5 million people in 2019, which makes up 7.5% of the country’s entire workforce. But as all other countries, they did take a significant hit after having the highest tourism record of 2019 (90.9 million).

By 2020, numbers had drastically dropped to 41.7 million , which is still high when you compare it to other nations. But never one to stay down, France crawled back up to 48.4 million in 2021, and by 2022, as the world opened up, a whopping 79.4 million people had been to see the Republic. So let’s take a closer looks at the stats from 2019 and beyond.

France’s Top Tourism Statistics

france tourist arrivals by country

  • No. 1: France is the most popular tourist destination in the world.
  • 90 million: The annual number of tourists who visit France in 2019, according to its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • 9.6%: The percentage of French GDP directly tied to the tourism sector in 2019, making up. In 2022, this number had reached 216.5 Billion Euros , which was a 1.4% decrease from 2019.
  • 12 million: The number of people who flock to Disneyland Paris each year, Europe’s largest theme park.
  • 30 million: Amount of visitors who travel to Paris alone, meaning the City of Lights receives more visitors itself than many countries. In 2022, Paris and the Île-de-France region welcomed over 44 million tourists .
  • 49: The number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in France, one of the highest ratios in the world.
  • 25°C: Average summer temperature in France, though exact temperatures can vary from region to region.

Who Else Loves France?

As the most popular tourist destination in the world, you may be surprised to learn that the exact figures of visitors to France can vary substantially based on how they are counted. This is partly due to the fact that it is part of the European Union, meaning many visitors pass through not just France but various European countries, all holding EU passports.

So, which nationality visits France the most? The largest number of visitors come from the United Kingdom and Germany, and other popular countries include the United States, China, and various African countries.

  • Germany - 13.7%
  • Belgium/Luxembourg - 13%
  • Italy - 7.8%
  • Switzerland - 7.8%

The fastest growing demographic for international tourists to France is China, with the French government actively promoting tourism for visitors from China and East Asia in general. Prior to Covid-19, the country aimed to attract a whopping 5 million tourists from China alone per year, but currently that figure is around the 2 million mark.

This begs the question, why does France get so many tourists? The history, culturally relevant monuments, artistic foundations, romantic atmosphere, pleasant weather, world renowned food, and comfort are just the start.

Transportation: Getting Around France

France has a well-developed transportation system, including trains, subways, buses, taxis, and airports. Need to know how to go? Here’s a breakdown of France’s premier transportation methods.

france tourist arrivals by country

  • High-Speed Trains (TGV - Train à Grande Vitesse) :Looking to explore more than one city? Love speed +comfort when your itinerary features Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and beyond? The TGV is a network of high-speed trains that connect major cities in France with neighboring countries at convenient speeds. Timely, and super comfortable, this is the way to go.
  • Regional Trains (TER - Transport Express Régional): A great option for regional travelers, TER trains cover regional routes, connecting smaller towns and cities within specific regions, of which France has 26. They’re slower, but more affordable. They’re also a strong option for daily commuters.
  • Paris Métro: You can’t get around the City of Love without using the Paris Métro, an extensive subway system covering Paris and its suburbs. It's a fast and convenient way to navigate the capital. Oh, and you can stop at all the major attractions with this system.
  • Buses and Coaches: The perfect in-between, buses and coaches operate within cities and on long-distance routes. They’re ideal for the traveler that wants to take the scenic route. Buses are commonly used for short-distance travel within cities, and long-distance coaches are a great option for budget-conscious travel.
  • Cars and Rental Cars: Given the shift to green transport, cars and rentals are less recommended, but the well maintained roads make it an option that most consider. Cars are ideal for exploring rural areas, tranquil countryside, and off-the-beaten-path destinations.
  • Bicycles: Major metro areas like Paris are perfect for bike lovers, with the infrastructure to support two-wheeled travel available. Many cities offer bike-sharing programs for short trips, as it’s an eco-friendly and healthy way to explore cities.

Travel tip: Psst! If you aren’t used to using public transport, worry not! Our private guides can meet you at your hotel (or any other preferred meeting point), and chaperone you throughout your customized tour.

Parles-tu Anglais? All About Language In France

While major cities like Paris don’t need much translation, France is quite huge, and English proficiency varies from region to region. In fact, the nation’s English proficiency index of 531 puts it at the top 5 lowest in Europe (position 30 out of 34) and 43 globally, so you will need some linguistic help depending on where you’ll go. Here are some common phrases to keep in mind;

Staying Safe: The France Edition

france tourist arrivals by country

Although France is generally a safe country to travel in, larger cities have issues with pickpockets and petty crime. Given the crime index of 55.12 out of 100 , and increase of crime in the past year, you should exercise caution by trying not to stand out too much as a tourist, otherwise you risk yourself being targeted by petty thieves. Keep your valuables either in your hotel room or in a bag that isn’t immediately visible.

Safety while touring at night can be low (35.68) in major cities, so consult with a local tour guide about night based tours to get the best recommendations about safe areas and places to avoid.

Conclusion

As the most visited country in the world, France lives up to the hype. The country sports attractions that will appeal to virtually every kind of traveler under the sun, from art lovers to extreme skiers, fashion aficionados, wine connoisseurs, and beach goers.

Nice Tour Guide - Gregory R.

Being a native from Villefranche-sur-Mer, in the heart of the French Riviera, a little fishermen's village located right between Nice and Monaco and facing the world-famous Cap Ferrat, I grew up in the valley outside Nice and started to discover the cities of the Côte d'Azur as a young boy with my parents and family, later on as a teenager with my friends. After studying corporate public relations, I had one of the best opportunity of my life, something that I secretly always wished, to go live in United States, working for the famous Sun Valley ski resort for two years in Idaho as a restaurant and banquet manager. When I came back to Nice, I went back to school to be graduated as a French professional tour guide and lecturer in English and Spanish, then i started to work as a tour guide in different tour companies and quickly decided to face a new challenge by opening a tour guide company that will look more like me, which means showing my region as a local to my clients and make sure they feel as with friends, all along their stay, not just when they are with me for the tour. Providing private professional guided tours today for shore excursions or visitors staying in various hotels in Cannes, Monaco or Nice is obviously the greatest and most enjoyable job that suit me, as natural and sincere I can be, it pushes me on being exceptionally great every day because my guest deserves so much coming from so far to discover our region, i only have one day to stay in their memories for a very long time, showing you the best places around the French Riviera. Since 2007, me and my team of native born and raised professional tour guide are specialized in providing private tours on the French Riviera, which mean that we adjust our tours with your requests and wishes, we have had a lots of unique and very interesting experiences that we will always remember because of sharing unique life moments.

Countries with the highest number of inbound tourist arrivals worldwide 2019-2023

The number of international tourist arrivals worldwide rose sharply in 2023 compared to the previous year across all the most visited destinations in the world. Overall, France was the most visited country by inbound travelers worldwide in 2023, with 100 million international tourist arrivals. Spain, the United States, and Italy followed in the ranking that year.

Has global inbound tourism recovered from the impact of COVID-19?

In 2023, the number of international tourist arrivals worldwide totaled approximately 1.3 billion. While this figure represented a 33 percent annual increase, it remained below the peak in inbound tourist arrivals reported in 2019, the year before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. That said, international tourism receipts worldwide exceeded pre-pandemic levels in 2023, peaking at nearly 1.5 trillion U.S. dollars.

What are the most popular global regions for inbound tourism?

When breaking down the  number of international tourist arrivals worldwide by region , Europe has consistently reported the highest volume of inbound travelers, both before and after the impact of the health crisis. In 2023, this region alone accounted for roughly 55 percent of global inbound tourist arrivals. Meanwhile, Asia and the Pacific recorded the second-highest number of inbound tourist arrivals worldwide in 2023.
