Frequently Asked Questions

How do i purchase a tour bus from master's transportation.

Master’s Transportation uses a low-pressure, consultative sales approach. Our goal is to match you with the right bus or buses to suit your needs.   If you would like to learn more about our available inventory, we invite you to browse our online catalog and submit a quote request. You can also contact our sales team by phone for more personalized service.

How much do tour buses cost?

Master’s Transportation’s large inventory allows us to offer extremely competitive pricing on all new and used motor coaches and travel vans. Our prices are some of the lowest in the industry because we receive volume discounts from our long-standing partners in manufacturing.

With that being said, several factors will impact the cost of your bus or van. These factors include the model, age, mileage, equipment package, and financing method you select.

Can I finance a new or used travel bus?

Yes, Master’s Transportation offers several financing and leasing options , including:

  • Operational leases
  • Short-term lease
  • Financed leases
  • Trac leases
  • Purchase financing

Our tour buses can be leased for seasonal or yearly time frames, depending on your needs.

Leasing is an excellent choice due to the ongoing semiconductor chip shortage, which has limited the in-stock inventory of our tour buses for sale.

If you are looking for a way to unlock additional savings, take advantage of the Section 179 IRS deduction to reduce your tax obligations.

Do you offer repair services or parts for tour vehicles?

Of course we do! Beyond sales and rentals, we also serve as a reliable partner for tour bus repair and maintenance services, in addition to having access to thousands of parts for commercial vehicles spanning a wide range of makes and models.

How many passengers can a tour bus hold?

The seating capacity of your vehicle will vary greatly depending on which model you choose. For instance, our tour vans typically carry between 10-15 passengers whereas our large motor coaches can accommodate as many as 75 tourists. We also offer intermediate-sized tour buses that can accommodate 15-30 guests.

Do tour bus drivers need a CDL?

Tour bus drivers must possess a CDL if they are operating a vehicle that can accommodate more than 15 passengers. Tour vans or buses that carry 15 passengers or less do not require a CDL to drive.

Can I buy a tour bus that is located in another city or state?

Of course! Master’s Transportation offers nationwide delivery. If you have found the perfect tour bus, but it is located outside of your state of residence, give us a call. We can arrange for the vehicle to be delivered straight to you.

Can I rent one of your tour buses or vans?

Yes! Master’s Transportation is the nation’s largest commercial bus rental company. Whether you need a short-term or long-term rental, we will be glad to assist.

LIBERTY COACH

Miles ahead of your expectations.

Liberty Coach is the premier manufacturer of Prevost motorcoach conversions, the finest luxury RVs in the world. The company was founded as a backyard business nearly 50 years ago and remains a labor of love today – a family owned and operated business doing what they love to do, and doing it better than anyone else.

OUR CUSTOMERS SPEAK UP

“It’s been a 30-year dream of ours, and I can’t believe it’s finally here. We got to design it ourselves, both the paint job and interior … they actually built the lounge furniture inside the coach. Everything about it, we just love it.”

class a tour bus

“You look at this bus – it’s a 2019, and we’re in 2024 – and it looks brand, spanking NEW! I can’t wait to get behind the wheel and out on the open road this summer. I’m excited!”

class a tour bus

“I’ve waited a long time for this to happen. We ordered when Frank was able to get the new (9660) shells, and I kind of left (the design work) up to them because that’s their business. I think they’ve done a fabulous job.”

class a tour bus

“It’s amazing how things come together. Everything turned out beautiful – the outside, the inside. Kim she does an awesome job and the new design with Kurt is just unbelievable. We just love it, absolutely love it!”

class a tour bus

“Our coach was over 25 years old when we first came in and your service team treats us like it’s brand new. What other company stands behind its product like that?”

class a tour bus

“For me, the difference with Liberty was we were never dealing with a company. We were dealing with a FAMILY. The same family that built their first coach in their backyard in 1971 and built our coach in 2021.”

class a tour bus

“Liberty’s the best thing out here on the NASCAR circuit. It’s been the talk of the town since we took delivery. No other coach even comes close.”

class a tour bus

“We’re the kind of people who like to buy things new, not used. This coach made us rethink that. It’s just amazing.”

class a tour bus

“We have a Mercedes SUV. This coach rides better than that does. You absolutely cannot overstate the difference (between Liberty and their previous Class A).”

How Do I Get a Bus Driver’s License?

To obtain a bus driver’s license, you’ll first need to secure a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), specifically a Class B CDL for passenger buses. The process begins with acquiring a commercial learner’s permit (CLP) for at least two weeks, during which you can practice driving under supervision.

How Do I Get a Bus Driver's License

You’ll need to pass a written exam, a driving test, and other requirements such as a drug test, physical exam, and background check. Clean driving records are mandatory , and some jurisdictions may require that you have never had a suspended license.

After meeting these prerequisites, you’ll proceed to the general CDL skills test, which consists of three sections: vehicle inspection, basic controls, and driving. You must pass all three to earn your CDL. Additionally, a passenger vehicle endorsement is required, and you’ll need to conduct the test in the type of vehicle you’ll be operating.

Once you pass, you can submit all your documents and the required fee to your local driver’s license office. Background checks and drug tests are also commonly required for this type of licensure.

Things to Know Before You Charter a Tour Bus

Traveling in a luxurious tour bus is a unique experience and an ideal solution for anyone traveling over the road for extended periods. Since these buses are specially equipped to provide multi-day comfort on long journeys, most companies that rent them do so on long-term contracts. Many companies will charter or rent for a day.

Here are some things to keep in mind before you book an entertainer coach for your next trip:

  • Accommodations and features will differ significantly, make sure to see the coach before signing a contract.
  • Often includes sleeping accommodations with either one bed for a single entertainer or a configuration of up to 8 or more bunks.
  • Always ask for insurance information before booking.
  • If you need other parties listed as additionally insured, tell the company before signing a contract.

Though we work hard to keep our listings updated, we encourage you to check the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Safer System for company standing before booking with any operator.

Common Amenities on a Tour Bus

Because tour buses are designed to serve as your home out on the road, these vehicles are packed to the brim with amenities. When you're traveling for days at a time and spending long periods on your bus, you want every luxury you can get to make the journey more comfortable.

Most tour buses feature bunks or beds where you can relax or catch some sleep overnight and lounge areas where you can hang out during the day. While the details for each bus will vary, you can expect the following amenities from a tour bus charter:

  • Restrooms   | Always
  • AC   | Always
  • WiFi   | Almost Always
  • Screens/DVD   | Almost Always
  • PA Systems   | Often
  • In-Seat Power Outlets   | Almost Always
  • Airline Grade Entertainment   | Almost Always
  • Wheelchair Accessible   | Rare

We encourage you to ask your operators questions and request photos of your bus so you know you're getting what you need to make your trip a success.

Common Activities That Use Tour Buses

When you think about luxury tour buses, the first thing that comes to mind is probably the rock stars who tour the country putting on spectacular shows. Still, they aren't the only ones traveling in these buses. Entertainer coach buses provide comfortable, luxurious transportation and accommodations for a wide range of performers, political figures and everyday folks who want an experience like no other.

From road trips to tours and everything in between, tour buses provide an excellent home away from home for any group, including:

Bands and Entertainers

Bands and musicians

Political Campaigns

Political Campaigns

Theatre groups, comedians and entertainers, executive/corporate, visiting dignitary or executive groups, wedding party transportation, wedding venue shuttle, business commuter shuttle, college and professional sports, tailgate parties, traveling/hosting sporting events, nascar/racing events, benefits of renting an entertainer coach bus.

Renting a tour bus for a long trip provides you the ultimate convenience. Your bus should have almost everything you need onboard, so you can travel without searching for hotel rooms or places to stop for food and bathroom breaks.

As with any rental, your entertainer coach will be assigned an experienced driver who will ensure you arrive at each destination safely. You can sit back and relax, and your driver will be responsible for navigation, traffic and parking. This driver gives you the opportunity to work on your performance, socialize or take a nap so that you arrive fresh and ready to shine.

Tour buses are an environmentally friendly alternative to other modes of travel, helping to minimize the impact of your tour by limiting the number of vehicles or plane trips required to get you where you're going. Most tour buses are relatively fuel-efficient and house an entire band along with some crew members, allowing you to carpool and reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

FOUNDED IN 1990...

Our objective and business model has always been very simple and straight forward:

DO BUSINESS WITH INTEGRITY...

Today, our fleet of nearly sixty coaches has been built and tailored to help meet the budget of most every touring band...

We offer both Prevost and MCI Entertainer Coaches as well as Executive Limo Styled Coaches...

Check out this video to give you an up close and personal look at who we are...

STAR COACHES: THE PIONEER OF THE EXECUTIVE LIMO COACH...

After meeting with numerous coach builders who turned him down, Danny met with Jerry Calhoun, the Godfather of the rock & roll bus industry.

The meeting was brief and to the point.  Jerry asked Danny to write down references and then told him to go to lunch...

When Danny returned from lunch Jerry said "Go pick out a bus, I believe in you!"

Since 1990 and millions of dollars later, the relationship between Danny Hamilton and Jerry Calhoun has been very special.

14 BUNKER COACHES

class a tour bus

Many years ago, and thanks to our friend George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, we made a decision to convert some of our coaches from 12 bunkers to 14 bunkers...

This move has opened the door to helping bands save money by "sharing a bus" with an opening act, or carrying a full crew and keeping the cost involved to only one bus...

With a year round rate starting at $850 / day, our 2013 to 2016 model 14 bunker coaches can really make a difference to bands and touring theatrical shows that are faced with tight budgetary restraints...

OUR DRIVERS GIVE BACK…

"GUYS, FIGURE OUT A WAY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO OUR CLIENTS."

We knew that the economy was going to tank. We didn't know when, or how bad things would get, we just knew the bubble was going to burst.

Over the course of two weeks, we held countless phone calls with all of our drivers discussing their ideas on "how to make a difference".

They came up with many great ideas. Finally, our drivers decided that the best way to give back and make a difference was to change their overdrive structure IN FAVOR of the client.

Industry standard has always been, and still is, for a driver to charge an overdrive (equal to a days pay) after driving 450 miles.

Our drivers voluntarily and collectively, decide to break that mold.

Their decision was to NOT charge a client an overdrive at 450 miles, but rather at 501 miles.

This was a HUGE move on their part. Unheard of in the industry. They were mocked and ridiculed by their esteemed colleagues in the industry.

BUT... They made a difference.

So, ever since 2005, our great drivers have made a significant difference to our clients every day with their overdrive structure, which starts at 501 miles, not at 450 miles like our competition!

Our drivers WILL save you money on your next tour!

In the transportation industry, logging a million miles is an accomplishment that is respected by all.  But when an individual logs 1,000,000 miles with the same company, it is monumental and should be recognized as such...  It speaks volumes of the individual's loyalty, hard work, and dedication.

Sam has proven over his career to be able to adapt to any client and situation and is often our go to guy for a "Lead Driver".

Kevin Middleton was nicknamed "Smooth K" by the actor / musician Kevin Bacon, and there is a reason for that...  No one gives a client a better ride than Kevin Middleton!  Kevin joined Star Coaches in April 2009 and has been working non stop since then!

Averaging well over 300 days a year touring, Kevin has driven for clients such as Musiq Soulchild, Hippifest, Kid Koala, Queensryche, Kid Cudi, The Summer Set, NeedToBreathe, Experience Hendrix, Insane Clown Posse, Big Time Rush, The Wailers, The Osmond Brothers, Fitz & The Tantrums, Volbeat, Machine Gun Kelly, Dweezil Zappa, Toto, 3OH!3, Donny & Marie Osmond, Feld Entertainment, Keith Sweat, Corey Smith, Don Felder, Clean Bandit, ALT-J, Hoobastank, The Neighbourhood, T-Pain, Gogol Bordello, Brynn Elliott, Echo & The Bunnymen, Alan Jackson, Miranda Sings!, TI, The Struts, Big Boi, Kodak Black, Above & Beyond, Pentatonix, and 88Rising just to name a few...

THE 500,000 MILE CLUB

We are very proud of our drivers, especially those who have proven their dedication and commitment to Star Coaches over their many years of service...  And with years of service, comes miles driven...  Many miles driven!

500,000 miles is like driving across country over 200 times!  Most people NEVER drive across the United States!

We'd like to recognize those drivers who have logged over 500,000 miles with Star Coaches...

class a tour bus

More often than not, when clients compare a Star Coaches proposal to our competitor's proposals, our proposal will "appear" to be more expensive.

Why? Because it is thorough...

It's NOT designed to be "pretty"...   it's designed to be accurate.   Actually, it is designed for you to end your tour BELOW the projected budget.

Don takes the time to prepare every single proposal for every single tour himself.

He suggests stop point cities on longer drives to keep a driver safe and legal.

While this level of thoroughness takes more time, it has been invaluable, especially for foreign clients that are not familiar with the geographical layout of the United States.

See for yourself what many consider to be the best, and most informative proposal in the industry, and then get ready to enjoy "coming in below budget" at the end of your tour.

TRAILER WEIGHT LIMITS…

Most of the time, this is not a problem, as most bands are staying within our 10,000 pound limit for GVWT (Gross Vehicle Weight, or a loaded trailer)...

By the way, for you Production Managers, our trailers weight about 4,500 pounds empty, leaving you about 5,500 pounds for the gear / merch...

Anyhow, a more frequent occurrence is that we find ourselves receiving a frantic call from our drivers at pick up stating that "this trailer is very heavy"...

So we instruct the driver to immediately weigh the full trailer, only to find that the GVWT is over 10,000 pounds... This becomes a new problem...

To battle this potential problem, we suggest making sure your packed load is less than 5,500 pounds, and if you must exceed that limit, act BEFORE the tour pick up...

Rent a box truck and a driver...

Star Coaches now has a small team of box truck drivers that can help solve the problem of a disaster at pick up...

If you can't get the gear to 5,500 pounds, let us know, and we will gladly assign one of our auxiliary drivers to your rented box truck from Hertz, Budget or UHaul...

Don't be THAT guy who is overweight at pick up...

Mercedes-Benz – The standard for buses

Tourrider Premium & Business

Tourrider premium, topic overview, comfort & design, tourrider business, all facts & figures, impressive from a to z – the tourrider premium., a new dimension of premium travel..

When it comes to features and ride comfort, the Tourrider Premium leaves little to be desired. A premium-class coach that promises your passengers an incomparable travel experience and can be adapted in many details to meet your specific needs. With an optional glass roof and high-tech infotainment system, the Tourrider is ideal for tourism and charter operations such as city-sightseeing or long-distance travel.

With a Tourrider Premium, you have chosen a state-of-the-art coach that can be individually customized to create a fully-featured motorcoach. The Premium variant impresses with additional exterior styling elements, a more luxurious interior, and more headroom. Highlights like the continuous floor or the optional panorama glass roof create a fascinating feeling of spaciousness with an air of sheer comfort, while proven Mercedes‑Benz safety systems help the driver to keep everything under control. And, with our nationwide service network, downtimes and maintenance are reduced to a minimum.

The low beam and high beam benefit from the outstanding luminous efficacy of the integral LED headlights, which also use significantly less energy than standard lights. They provide broad and precise illumination of the road. Another safety benefit is the light temperature, which is similar to that of daylight and makes the eyes tire less quickly. The LED lights assure a long service life and low degradation (decrease in luminosity).

The integrated energy absorbing bumpers increases safety and economy by preventing damage to the vehicle structure in the event of an impact at speeds of up to 3.7 mph (6 km/h). This also ensures the mechanical function of the spare wheel flap. The trip can be continued without risk (no lost parts).

For an ideal rear view: the integrated mirror system of the Tourrider Premium.

LED step lighting – the bright and welcoming highlight ensures safe boarding.

The air-sprung driver's seat from Isringhausen significantly improves the coach driver's working conditions and reduced driver fatigue. The integrated seat belt is designed to meet or exceed all FMVSS safety standards.

The high-quality Comfort Plus cockpit, including multifunction steering wheel and modern instrument cluster, is easy to operate, offers high-quality surfaces and a great deal of comfort. All instruments are clearly arranged and within easy reach without changing the seating position.

The easy-grip 4-spoke multifunction steering wheel has a diameter of 17.7 in (450 mm) and is adjustable in height and inclination. The buttons can be used to operate the instrument menus, radio and cellphone conveniently and safely.

The Coach Infotainment series offers high-quality entertainment through perfectly matched components and signal transmission and at the same time a rolling digital network with integrated navigation system. The Coach Infotainment series has continual update capability.

The design of the seats and the service sets mounted above each double seat ensure comprehensive travel comfort. An LED reading light and an individually adjustable air nozzle are available for each passenger.

The Premium option of the Tourrider is not only immediately recognizable as a Mercedes‑Benz at first sight; it is recognized as the benchmark of the North American market. From its modern exterior styling and superior-quality construction and finish, to a multitude of small interior and exterior details and extras, the 45-foot coach is impressive in every respect. For instance, the front features high-quality, chromed grilles and the additional integrated side mirrors and full-LED headlights with optional high-beam assistant merge seamlessly into the exterior styling concept. In the ergonomically-designed cockpit, highlights such as a multifunctional leather steering wheel and a size-adjustable safety belt, and innovative driver assistance functions such as lane departure warning system, Sideguard Assist, or Adaptive Cruise Control with Active Brake Assist (ABA 5) await the driver. If the Comfort Plus Cockpit option is chosen, the driver enjoys additional comfort, premium materials and more storage space. The interior, with a particularly comfortable headroom of 6ft 4in and optional 2+1 luxury seating, feels spacious and inviting. On long journeys, passengers are entertained by a state-of-the-art multimedia-system with a choice of 19-inch or 21.5-inch foldaway screens. Integrated air conditioning from Ebespächer/Sütrak, a panorama glass roof, and ambient LED lighting in 12 colors create an air of comfort and wellbeing. Thanks to this variety of features, the Tourrider Premium stands out not only as a luxurious, high-quality coach, but also as a tailor-made flagship for your company.

The large, tinted Top Sky Panorama glass roof also gives passengers the best views when looking up. The glass roof is double pane glass over the center aisle of the bus. It is tinted and has an energy transmittance of 21 percent and a light transmittance of about three percent.

Ambient interior lighting with LED technology is indirect mood lighting that provides continuous illumination in 12 different colors and 5 brightness levels. The light is reflected indirectly, emitting a pleasant brightness without glare and thus making passengers feel more comfortable.

The fully upholstered seat is equipped with a 3 – point seat belt and horizontal grab handles - just two of many standard features on the TSX. Furthermore, additional equipment can be configured.

Whether fabric, Composition, or various decors - the Travel Star Xtra gives operators plenty of creative scope to present their company in an individual and high-quality way. The Travel Star Xtra variant is the finest that Daimler Buses offers in its coach seating program. The top-of-the-range Xtra version offers even more elaborate upholstery; its external feature is the distinctive side crease on the seat and backrest.

Stainless steel frame.

With the Tourrider's newly designed vehicle frame, the cross members, the superstructure and the substructure are made of stainless steel. Different types of stainless steel are used here, depending on the requirements for the particular area of the frame. The integrated Front Collision Guard (FCG), which increases safety for the driver, is also made of these materials.

Last Updated on November 17, 2023 by Christina

class a tour bus

With a spacious floorplan design, smooth ride and luxury RV amenities, traveling in a Class A motorhome is hard to beat. There’s a reason why so many people refer to Class As as “a home on wheels.” Moreover, these motorhomes often feature all the conveniences of a modern home, including full-sized residential appliances, surround sound systems, fireplaces and more.

Before you invest in a gas or diesel Class A RV, there are a number of factors to consider when choosing the best Class A motorhome for your needs. In this Class A Buyer’s Guide, we will take an in-depth look at the ins and outs of Class A motorhomes. After that, we’ll take a look at a number of RV brands that offer a wide variety of features, price points and floorplans available at General RV. If you are already well versed on Class A motorhomes, feel free to use the links in our table of contents to jump around.

class a tour bus

If you’re in the market for an RV that closest resembles a home on wheels, a Class A RV is highly worth considering. Ranging from 30 to 45 feet in length, Class A RVs provide nearly all of the amenities and comforts of home. Some even come equipped with a washer and dryer. Class A motorhomes offer the widest variation in size and price. Although they’re large, Class A motorhomes are basically turn-key when it comes to driving them.

They also excel at providing a lot of space for storage and relaxation. Class A motorhomes often sleep up to eight adult passengers and offer slide-out rooms to increase living space. Slide-outs are sections of the RV that extend outward with the push of a button to increase the interior living space, and retract inward when traveling. Plus, more storage space means you’ll have room for more outdoor gear, clothing and must-haves from home.

If you’re looking to travel full-time or extensively, Class A RVs can be accommodating in ways that smaller RVs simply can’t keep up with. It’s the perfect RV for a cross-country excursion, providing a smooth ride for worry-free travel with a complete array of amenities at your disposal. Class A motorhomes also make a great tailgate vehicle. When you’re waiting for the big game, take all of the conveniences of home to the stadium for the ultimate pre-game party destination.

While size is likely the most obvious difference in these motorhomes, there are a number of aspects and features that set the Class A apart from Class C motorhomes.

Class A RVs

class a tour bus

First, Class A motorhomes are built using a very strong, heavy-duty frame. These frames are built on either a commercial bus chassis or a commercial truck chassis. 18-wheeler trucks often use a similar build. Large, 22.5 inch wheels also support the heavy load of the Class A motorhome. Gas and diesel engine models are available, with both offering different benefits and disadvantages.

Pros: Gas Engine

  • Better for less frequent use
  • Fuel more affordable/accessible
  • Maintenance less complicated/costly
  • Higher RPMs translates to smoother, quieter ride with faster acceleration

Pros: Diesel Engine

  • Better for longer/more frequent travel
  • More fuel efficiency
  • More torque/greater towing capacity
  • Longer performance life than gas engines

Cons: Gas Engine

  • Gas has shorter shelf life, more prone to evaporation
  • Less towing power/capacity than diesel

Cons: Diesel Engine

  • Maintenance costs are higher
  • Lower RPMs results in slower acceleration, top speed

While Class A motorhomes have the lowest fuel mileage of RVs at roughly 8-10 miles per gallon, they make up for it in space and accommodations. These motorhomes are often defined by copious amounts of storage space and roomy interiors that can sleep up to 8 people or more. Class A RV interiors will range from having basic seating and appliances for the entry-level coaches to designer-grade interiors with tile floors, residential refrigerators, convection ovens and other high-end furnishings.

Class C RVs

class a tour bus

Strictly speaking in terms of size, Class C RVs provide a middle ground between the large Class A RV and the compact Class B camper van . The Class C is a popular choice because it tends to provide a more natural driving feel. This is particularly true for those driving an RV for the first time. In terms of length, Class C motorhomes range from 21 feet to 41 feet. Class C motorhomes can be full-size, compact or super-sized. They are built on a van frame or truck chassis, such as the Ford E350/E450 and the Chevrolet Express. Compact Class Cs feature a Ford Transit or Mercedes cutaway chassis, while Super Cs utilize the larger Ford F550 or Freightliner chassis. Off-road or all-wheel-drive options are available with a select few manufacturers, but most Class Cs are rear-wheel drive.

Class Cs are most recognizable by their raised sleeping or storage areas which extend over the cab of the RV. The price for Class C motorhomes range from $43,000 to $200,000 and up depending on the manufacturer, floorplans and options. Nevertheless, Class Cs are a good fit for families of 4-6 or a couple. For more in-depth information on Class C motorhomes, see our Class C Buyer’s Guide .

class a tour bus

Otherwise known as the king of motorhomes, Class A RVs are the largest of their kind. Unquestionably, they often resemble a rock star’s tour bus. Class A RVs range in size from 21 feet to a whopping 45 feet. One of the benefits of the Class A motorhome is the amount of living space it offers. As a result, its wide frame makes for large living areas. This is perfect when travelling with a larger family as there is plenty of room for everyone.

Many Class A motorhomes offer slide-outs to make your living space even roomier once you have reached your destination. Slide-outs, also known as slides, pop-outs and bump-outs, are essentially cut-out portions of your RV that extend and retract to increase the living space available. Class A RVs are typically designed for convenience and comfort, providing an abundance of storage space. Class A motorhomes typically have taller ceilings, as well.

There are some disadvantages Class A motorhomes have compared to their smaller counterparts, including storage when not in use. Due to their larger size in both length and height, storing a Class A RV in the backyard or driveway may not be possible. Alternatively, many Class A RVs are kept in RV storage facilities and lots, which come at a cost to the RV owner. Also, heating or cooling the cab of a Class A motorhome while driving can be tricky due to the RVs large windshield. The size of the windshield can cause significant heat or cooling loss.

class a tour bus

Although they offer one of the most luxurious RV experiences available, actually driving a Class A motorhome can be extremely off-putting and intimidating to some campers. However, despite their impressive size, length, and weight, there are plenty of Class A RV drivers who started out as total beginners. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a special license or extra endorsements to drive a Class A RV. Plus, there are RV driving schools and courses to help give you the confidence you need behind the wheel of your RV.

Class A motorhomes are designed to travel comfortably down the road. Driving Class A RVs won’t feel much different than driving a large truck in terms of a smooth ride. However, Class A RVs will be limited to staying on paved roads and avoiding low clearances due to their massive size. Regardless of what length the Class A RV you decide to get is, it will be bigger and heavier than what you’re used to driving. This means you’ll need to ensure you have more time and distance for braking. However, driving a Class A motorhome gets easier and more comfortable each time you do it.

class a tour bus

Class A motorhomes have the highest towing capacity of all the motorhome classes. Towing capacity can range from 5,000 pounds on the smallest models to as much as 20,000 pounds on the largest models. However, the ability to tow also depends on the motorhome’s engine size. Diesel engines have higher torque at lower RPMs. This means more available power when climbing hills and mountain roads, as well as the power to pull more weight.

Class A gas motorhomes typically max out at around 5,000 pounds of towing capacity. Diesel Class A RVs can often pull 10,000-15,000 pounds. The most popular item that a Class A motorhome tends to tow is a tow-behind car (also called a dinghy ). These cars are generally towed using a tow bar but can be towed on a tow dolly or on a trailer. Having a second vehicle can be extremely beneficial for Class A RV owners, allowing them to travel into town or simply leave camp without having to break down and pack up the RV to do it.

class a tour bus

RV camping is booming in popularity and with good reason: camping in an RV means that you can bring all of the comforts of home with you to the campground. Whether it’s a state or national park, recreation area, private campground or RV resort, Class A RVs provide convenience and comfort in any setting. When you’re camping in a Class A motorhome, there are some specific amenities to look for in a campsite that will allow you to use all of the features of your RV.

First, make sure your RV will fit within the campsite. Most campgrounds list the maximum size of RV allowable for each particular site when you book online.

Campgrounds will have either primitive, partial hookup or full hookup campsites. Primitive campsites typically do not have water or electricity available at the site. Some of these campgrounds do not have flushable toilets or showers, either. Partial hookup campsites generally have water and electric hookups, but no sewer. This means you can have electricity and running water inside of your RV, but you will have to use a dump station to empty your black and gray water tanks. Full hookup campsites have electricity, water and sewer connections. Some campgrounds may also have cable television hookups and free Wi-Fi.

Class A motorhomes are built to be self-contained, making them fully capable and equipped for boondocking, or camping off-the-grid. However, size and maneuverability are an issue with most Class A motorhomes, as they tend to be long and cumbersome. Meaning, you won’t see many Class A drivers brave enough to take any off-road routes.

class a tour bus

Let’s face it, a good portion of Class A motorhome owners are not roughing it. Having a Class A motorhome is a dream of many RVers. They have tons of benefits that set them apart from every other class of RV. Class A motorhomes have become extremely popular with people who want to travel in heavier, more secure vehicles that have certain amenities and comforts absent in other types of RVs.

In fact, many who embrace the RV lifestyle full-time prefer Class A motorhomes primarily for their comfort, convenience and reliability. Class A RVs are built for the long-haul, making them ideal for extended travels on the road. Naturally, large families love the spacious interior, household amenities and extra sleeping space many Class A motorhomes offer. Class A RVs are also a top choice for snowbirds, retirees and other people who want to escape the dark days of winter by heading south.

According to the RV Industry Association , 11.2 million households currently own an RV in 2022, with Class A RVs making up 8% of all RVs owned. Those households split almost equally between those over and under the age of 55, with significant growth among 18-to-34 year olds, who now make up 22% of the market. While Class A RVs are known as favorites of retirees, 35% of current Class A owners are actually Millennial/Gen Zers and 25% are young families.

class a tour bus

Overall, Class A RVs are considered the top-of-the-line when it comes to motorhomes. There are many different makes and models at widely varying price points, and you will typically get a lot more amenities in a Class A RV with a higher quality of craftsmanship. But those amenities do come at a cost, as Class A RVs are generally the most expensive RVs on the market. Plus, their large size can take some getting used to. Here’s a look at some more pros and cons of Class A motorhomes:

Pros of Class A RVs

  • Tons of living and storage space – the most storage space of all motorized RVs
  • Large holding tanks for fresh, gray, and black water
  • Most amenities come equipped: kitchen, eating area, living area, full bathroom, washer/dryer combos
  • High towing capacity for vehicle or trailer
  • Good option for traveling with multiple adults or families

Cons of Class A RVs

  • Intimidating for some to drive
  • Limited to certain places or roads due to large size and maneuverability
  • Storage in off-use periods complicated by large size
  • Large windshield area makes it difficult to heat or cool cabin
  • More fuel costs and lower MPG compared to smaller RVs
  • Most expensive RV Class to maintain

How much do Class A RVs cost?

class a tour bus

Class A RVs are some of the largest motorhomes you can find — they can also have a heavy price tag to match. But, that’s not without good reason. Even though these immense motorhomes are considerably more expensive than smaller RVs, their prices can vary significantly.

The starting retail price for a class A RV is generally between $50,000 and $150,000. As the size of the RV and the number of amenities inside increases, so does the cost. For that reason, the price for some of the most luxurious models can extend beyond $600,000.

One of the best ways to purchase a Class A motorhome without spending top-dollar is by choosing a used Class A RV . Used RVs can vary greatly in price based on the model year, floorplan, mileage and condition. Consequently, if you are considering a used RV, check for signs of structural damage. Look for defects like water marks or bubbling and other signs of wear and tear. Many of these issues can lead to costly repairs that could quickly negate any savings made by choosing a used RV.

Options for financing a Class A RV

A number of financial options are available when it comes to purchasing your Class A motorhome. While some may pay in cash, most will finance their purchase over the course of several months. Monthly payments can be reduced by providing a large down payment at purchase. This could also help secure a lower interest rate, leading to even more savings in the long-term. Many RV dealers and banks offer great financing options.

Creating an RV budget will help you stay within your financial boundaries and help narrow your Class A RV search. Be sure to also include parts or accessory upgrades, regular preventative maintenance and RV insurance in your budget. You will also need to account for storage costs if you are unable to store your Class A RV on your property when not in use. RVing is growing in popularity at an exponential rate because it can be enjoyed on nearly any budget. Read about some ways to save money while RVing and stretch your dollars so you can enjoy more adventures.

If you’re looking for a large RV that can provide you with a comfortable life on the road, you might well be considering a Class A vs Class C RV. The question is: what’s the difference? Both are on the large size, and neither will have to be towed – making them both a very convenient option.

If you’re brand-new to RV life, chances are you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the terminology. Buying a new RV is a huge investment – so you want to make the right decision. Don’t worry – we’re here to help! In our Class A vs. Class C RV comparison, we’ll take an in-depth look at the features of each class, the main differences between the two, and the pros and cons of both – so we can help you to make the right choice.

What Are The Main Differences Between Class A and Class C RVs?:

If you’re in a hurry, here’s the basic difference between a Class A and a Class C RV: Size, and price.

Class A RVs are bigger than Class C’s and they also tend to be more luxurious – but because of that, they tend to have a much higher price tag. Here’s a full list of the main differences:

  • Size – Class A RVs are big. They tend to be used for touring bands because they’re large enough to accommodate a lot of people.
  • Shape – Class A RVs look like large buses – a kind of straight rectangular shape. Class C RVs, meanwhile, have a separate truck cab with an over-cab bed.
  • Luxury – Class A RVs tend to have more fixtures and fittings to give them a ‘home away from home’ feeling: you can even get bathtubs and washer/dryers to fit in Class A.
  • Price – Class A RVs tend to be a lot pricier than a Class C. Even second-hand, a Class A RV can cost you a fair bit of money.
  • Driving – some people find it a bit more inconvenient to take small journeys in Class A due to the length. However, the cab area of Class C can block your peripheral vision a little.

With that said, let’s go into some of the finer details about both.

Fleetwood Discovery Class A RV

Imagine a tour bus with all the latest luxuries and mod-cons: that’s a Class A RV . They are very large – spacious enough to make them really feel like home. In fact, many retired couples choose to sell their homes in order to invest in a Class A RV, so they can enjoy their retirement and travel the country (or even the world) at the same time.

Depending on how much you want to spend, you can live the life of luxury in a Class A RV. Leather interiors, sound-systems, bathtubs, large beds – you’re way more likely to find this kind of touches here. Even an older, less glamorous model is going to set you back a fair bit of money, however. Class A RVs hold their value well and tend to sell for a good price even second (or third) hand.

You will expect to pay around $50,000 for a new low-end model, but a larger, more up-to-date model could cost you the same (or more) than a house – at around $300,000. If you want a top-of-the-line model, you could pay up to $1 million. For most people, that kind of money is way out of reach – in fact, many people will be priced out of buying a Class A entirely.

Class A RV Living

Living Area

  • The cockpit of a Class A RV is right in the living area – this is a bonus if you want others to keep you company as you drive. Many models allow you to swivel the driver’s seat and passenger seat around, allowing you to use them as seating when you’re not driving. Your passengers will get a pretty good view out of the windows as you drive, too.
  • The shape of a Class A RV – straight and rectangular – means that you can fit a lot of extra appliances in that you may not have been able to do in a different class. Many people have bathtubs in theirs, as well as additional items like a washer/dryer. They also have great storage – you’ll usually find a ton of cupboard space in Class A (as well as much more space in the ‘underbelly’ section).
  • Because of their size, you can split the interior into sections by function – a kitchen/dining space with a cooker and a small table and chairs, a living area with a TV and sofas, and a bedroom area with a bed and wardrobes, as well as a separate bathroom. This adds to that ‘home on the road’ feeling and can help you to feel more comfortable as you travel.
  • Many Class A RVs are prepared for over-wintering, too – allowing you to travel all year round . Dump valves and pipes are kept tucked neatly inside – this means they’re less likely to freeze during cold snaps. In warmer temperatures, you don’t have to worry about getting too hot – a Class A RV usually has two air conditioning units.

The downside (other than the high price tag) is maneuverability. Many people decide to take an extra vehicle if they’re traveling with a Class A RV – the reason being it can be a bit of a headache to reverse it into parking spots.

It’s far easier to take a quick trip to the store in a car than it is to drive a bus-sized vehicle, and most people find it easier to leave their RV where it is once they’ve settled into a campground or park (and the ‘settling in’ process can take a little while, especially if you’re new to driving such a large vehicle). You can, however, tow a car with your Class A RV – this tends to be a good solution for most people.

There are advantages to driving a Class A RV compared to a Class C – you tend to have greater visibility, as you don’t have the cab blocking any of your peripheral vision. You also have large windows all around you – making it much easier to see where you’re going.

If you’re looking for a recommendation, one model that stands out is the Tiffin Motorhomes Allegro 34 PA. At around $200,000, it’s not cheap. However, it’s long, at 36 feet. You’ll have a lot of floor space to move around in, and you’ll find plenty of luxurious touches.

The leather interiors are great, and the layout is roomy and comfortable – it has a dinette with a work station for your computer, a range with three burners and a microwave, a double kitchen sink, and a refrigerator. It also has a TV, comfortable seating, and tons of storage space.

The bedroom is pretty nice, too, with a memory foam king-sized bed and another TV. It has a bathroom with a sink, shower, and toilet . There are also little extras, like a washer/dryer, a vacuum cleaner, and a linen cupboard – so if you want that true homely, comfortable feeling, you’ll be able to find it here.

It’s also great to drive, with a GPS navigation system and a rear-view camera. So yes, while it is on the expensive side, it’s not the highest price for a Class A, and it will give you a great, comfortable place to stay while you travel. It sleeps, eight people.

Pros of Class A RVs

  • The shape means no wasted space – you can even use the driver and passenger’s seats as extra seating in your living area
  • More visibility when driving due to large windows
  • Lots of storage
  • Space for more ‘luxurious’ features
  • You can keep traveling even in very cold or very hot temperatures
  • They keep their value quite well, so if you need to sell, you should still make a good amount of money from it
  • Can tow a vehicle if required

Cons of Class A RVs

  • Very large size may put some people off, especially if they are nervous drivers
  • Very expensive (even second-hand)
  • Will cost more to insure (especially if kitted out with lots of extras)

Frequently Asked Questions About Class A RVs

Here are a few things you might want to know:

Do Class A RVs have airbags?

Not usually, no. Class A RVs have seatbelts, but not normally airbags.

How long will a Class A RV last?

Most RVs last at least 20 years, or 200,000 miles. However, this can vary based on what type it is and how well you look after it.

Do I need a special license to drive a Class A RV?

Most states do not require a special license to drive a Class A RV – but some do. It’s worth checking the laws in the state you live in as well as any states you may plan to travel to.

Do Class A RVs come with a spare tire?

Actually, no – they don’t tend to. It’s a good idea to have a spare tire around if you can get one, but manufacturers don’t tend to supply them.

RV Class C Pros Cons

If you want luxury, you can still get it with a Class C RV – but it depends on how much you want to spend. They tend to range from around $50,000-$170,000. Obviously, this is a fair bit cheaper than a Class A – so if you’re on a smaller budget, this might be the choice for you.

They can be on the large size – the biggest Class C RVs can come in at around 44 feet in length, which should be enough to fit everything that you need. They’re a different shape, however, with a cab at the front with a bed over the top. They’re designed for large groups of people to travel together – so there are often clever tricks to fully utilize the space, like a couch that can turn into a bed, or a dinette that you can make into a double bed.

Obviously, this takes away the ‘home away from home’ feeling a little, as you have to do a bit of rearranging at bedtime to make everyone fit. If you want to travel and you need to fit a lot of people in your RV, however, a Class C is great. They can sleep up to ten people depending on the model you’re looking at.

If you’re willing to spend a little more, you can get all kinds of fixtures and fittings for your Class C RV, including a master bedroom suite. Normally, you’ll find a bathroom with a toilet, shower, and a sink , a small kitchen area, and living space with a table and seating, as well as a master bedroom area with wardrobes. They’re designed with families in mind, so everything tends to be functional, robust, and safe.

Class C Bedroom Idea Living

Storage-wise, you’ll have less space in a Class C RV than you would with a Class A, given their size difference. However, there are benefits to choosing a Class C in terms of budget. Not only are they cheaper to buy (especially second hand), but they tend to be cheaper to maintain and insure. Your gas prices will be a little more manageable if you choose a Class C, which is another bonus.

Although they may have less cupboard space than a Class A, Class C RVs do tend to have good-sized water and waste tanks – this is great for those who want to go ‘dry camping’ (or ‘ boondocking ’ – camping away from a campsite and surviving on the water you have in your tank).

Some people find them a bit more manageable when it comes to driving compared to a Class A, due to its reduced size. You can tow another vehicle – this is great if you want to make smaller trips out in the car.

The downside is that some people find the cab area removes some visibility, and there is an ‘overhang’ that blocks the drivers’ peripheral vision. For that reason, driving a Class C could take a bit of getting used to.

One model that really stands out is the Jayco 2018 Greyhawk Prestige 29MVP. Jayco takes the driving experience seriously, which is why they have equipped the Greyhawk Prestige with the JRide Plus package – this includes rubber isolation mounts, a computer-balanced driveshaft, stabilizers, and shock absorbers to make it a much smoother drive. It also comes with a Garmin Infotainment system.

The roadside living area has a tri-fold sofa and a booth dinette. It also has storage cabinets over the sofa, which is great for tucking away items that you don’t need in the daytime. There is, of course, an extra bunk over the cab area. The 32” TV will help to keep you busy, and mealtimes are taken care of with a double sink, three burner range, microwave, refrigerator, and pantry. It has a fully equipped bathroom and a slide-out, queen-sized bed with overhead storage. It even has a 24” TV.

On the outside, you’ll find an exterior entertainment center – this has a 32” LED tv. It also includes a 16’ awning with LED lighting. As far as Class C RVs go, this is a pretty luxurious model. It will set you back around $123,500 – still pricey, but not as pricey as some Class A RVs. It sleeps 8 people.

Pros of Class C RVs

  • Enough space to sleep up to ten people
  • Cheaper to buy, maintain, and insure than a Class A
  • All basic fixtures and fittings are included
  • Family-friendly

Cons of Class C RVs

  • Less storage space
  • Less like a ‘home’ than a Class A RV, with fewer luxuries
  • Some people find visibility is an issue when driving

Frequently Asked Questions About Class C RVs

Here are the questions people are asking about Class C’s:

Can I get a washer/dryer for my Class C RV?

Yes – it’s possible. However, it will take up a fair bit of room, even the portable versions. Many people prefer to rely on laundrettes as they travel, to save on floor space.

Can I tow my car with a Class C RV?

Yes – they can tow weights between 3000-5000lbs. The manufacturer will have guidelines on the towing capacity, and it’s very important that you stick to the limit.

How long does a Class C RV last?

As we mentioned earlier, most motorhomes last for 200,000 miles or 20 years (whichever comes first) without any major problems. Obviously, there are always exceptions to the rule – sometimes things go wrong unexpectedly.

On the flip side, some people find that their motorhomes last longer without any issues. It really depends, but good care and maintenance will help to keep them going for longer.

What is the longest Class C RV?

They can go up to 44 feet – this is pretty long! These are referred to as ‘Super C motorhomes’.

Things to Look for When Buying a Class A or Class C RV

There is a lot to consider when you’re looking for a new RV – it’s a pretty huge purchase. Here are a few key things to take note of when you’re shopping:

Obviously, the longer the RV, the more you can fit inside it. However, this will come at a cost. The more stuff you put in it, the more it weighs, which will impact your fuel consumption.

class c rv layout

Number of beds

In the specifications for an RV, you’ll be able to find out how many people can sleep in it. The number for a Class A or a Class C is usually around 8 people, which is larger than the average family – so you may even be able to have people come over to stay for the night.

Tank size is important. You want a generously-sized water tank in your RV – especially if you’re traveling with a lot of people. But what happens to the water waste? Your black and gray tanks need to be similarly generous in order to accommodate everyone. This is especially important if you want to go boondocking.

Driver experience

Driving a large vehicle can be challenging. Many RV manufacturers take this into consideration, and they will include things like stabilizers and shock absorbers to help you to drive comfortably (and to keep your passengers from having a bumpy ride).

Obviously, if you’re buying a brand-new RV, you shouldn’t expect anything to go wrong straight away. A warranty is a necessity, though, just in case the worst happens. Many manufacturers offer generous warranties with the latest models.

It goes without saying, but it’s worth checking out the insurance costs before you buy. You might be surprised at how expensive it can get, especially with the larger, more expensive Class A models. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to budgeting for your RV life, and insurance is a big part of that. You want to make sure that if the worst happens, you are completely covered by your insurance.

It’s difficult to pick a clear winner here. It will ultimately be down to personal choice. Both options will keep you comfortable and safe on the road – which is the main thing to be concerned about.

However, in terms of space, luxury, and convenience, Class A RVs are excellent. Even if you have a large family, you’ll all fit comfortably inside, and there will be tons of storage space. The increased driver visibility and extra home comforts make this a great choice, especially if you have a higher budget and you’re willing to splash out a little.

However, for most people, a Class C RV is a more realistic choice. Even the more expensive models are cheaper than a Class A would be, and you are more likely to find one at a decent price second-hand. It may feel a bit less luxurious than a Class A would, but many Class Cs are still packed with fittings and fixtures to make you feel like you are truly ‘at home’ on the road. For that reason, Class C RVs remain very popular, especially for families with young kids.

We’re going to leave the decision up to you – but whatever you choose, an adventure awaits you!

Carrie Underwood's Fans Call the Star "Unrecognizable" in New Photos

The country music superstar stepped out for a rare night out in Las Vegas.

preview for Carrie Underwood | Song Association

Country Living editors select each product featured. If you buy from a link, we may earn a commission. Why Trust Us?

The "Before He Cheats" singer recently hit the town for a rare evening out after one of her shows, and she shared photos from the event on her Instagram feed. Carrie headed to Zouk Nightclub (also at Resorts World) to take in a Ludacris concert. Fans will remember that Carrie and Ludacris teamed up in 2018 for the certified platinum song, "The Champion."

Carrie shared a selfie with Ludacris and wrote, "Pretty sure @ludacris is the only person who could get me out to the club after my show @resortsworldlv . @zoukgrouplv was so much fun and we even got a fun surprise watching @tpain ! Thanks for a fun night out! #LasVegas #zouk."

Carrie dressed down for the night and ditched her typical "denim and rhinestones" for black leggings, a black Guns 'n' Roses T-shirt , and a yellow "Welcome to the Jungle" trucker hat (another nod to Guns 'n' Roses). She paired the look with slouchy leather boots.

Fans rushed to the comments section to say, "Is that really Carrie Underwood?" and "I didn’t even recognize her!"

Others remarked, "ultimate life goal is so go to the club with carrie 😂👏🏼" "Y’all should have got on stage and sang THE CHAMPION! Would have been epic!" and "YOU DO YOU CARRIE! What an experience I can ONLY imagine!!"

Coordinates of Elektrostal in decimal degrees

Coordinates of elektrostal in degrees and decimal minutes, utm coordinates of elektrostal, geographic coordinate systems.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
