Cape of Good Hope is a headland off the southern corner of South Africa. It is wrongly thought as the southernmost point of the African continent and the spot where the Atlantic and Indian ocean meet. Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve is the best place to enjoy the beauty of nature and wild. This phenomenal place is a strait peninsula that overhangs into the ocean. With this kind of landscape comes unforeseeable weather and wind. Cape of Good Hope is of the famous tourist attraction. It happens to be a beautiful and scenic picnic spot with hiking and cycling trails around it.

Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias was the first known European person to discover the cape, he discovered it in 1488 and gave it the name ‘Cape Storms’. However, years later it was renamed to Cape of Good Hope to try and attract sailors to the Cape Sea Route which passes through the southern coast of Africa. There are around 250 different species of birds, including penguins found in the Cape of Good Hope. There are also other animals found in this area which are zebras, deer, antelope, otters, reptiles and rodents. The most famous mammal that exists at the Cape of Good Hope is the Chacma Baboon. There are 11 troops found in the Cape of Good Hope and they consist of 375 individuals throughout the entire Cape Peninsula. Cape of Good Hope is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is described as “one of the world’s great centres of terrestrial biodiversity”. There is approximately 1100 plans species native to the Cape of Good Hope. These plant species include ‘fynobos’ or ‘fine bush’ vegetation like proteas, cone bushes and tree pincushions. The Atlantic and the Indian oceans meet at the Cape of Good Hope and these waters can be very treacherous for ships. The currents very dangerous waves that have led to shipwrecks. It was here that the Flying Dutchman was lost in a very bad storm. It is currently a ghost ship doomed to sail this route forever. If one happens to see this ghost ship, it is a signal to imminent disaster. A very talented Portuguese poet Luis de Camoes personified the Cape of Good Hope in his great poem Os Lusiadas which was printed in 1572. He made a mythological character named Adamastor who symbolises the dangerous situations the Portuguese sailors faced when trying to round the Cape Storms. The Cape of Good Hope balmy climate attracts tourists to its protected areas, where the influence of the weather conditions on vegetation is full display. The Table Mountain National Park surround the famous 3,563-foot sandstone uplift that gives dramatic backdrop to Cape Town and extends to include the peninsula. Here tourists can see historic lighthouses and wildlife like baboons, eland and whales. Western Cape is a very beautiful province with amazing tourist attractions that are all a must see but one should make sure they visit the unique and phenomenal Cape of Good Hope to explore and experience all the attractions found there. Private Cape Peninsular gets you to see these wonderful attraction and more Cape Town Tours. Cape Peninsula, Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope & Boulders Beach Penguins

Explore cape point with a private cape peninsula tour.  the cape of good hope tour incorporates the penguins at boulders beach and more with an experienced and knowledgeable guide..

cape town tour guide cape peninsula cape point and boulders beach penguins

This is a must-do activity while in Cape Town. We recommend an early start to our clients on this day as it is a popular route and it is best to get ahead of the crowds. On this tour, we cover 100 miles travelling down the west coast of the Cape Peninsula to the spectacular Cape Point, and then back along the Peninsula’s charming east coast.

There are plenty of interesting things to see and do along the route and your private Cape Town Tour Guide will explain the options to you. Journey along Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the world’s most famous scenic roads.  A walk through the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve enables you to have an intriguing experience of the extraordinary and unique fynbos biome, the smallest and most diverse of the Six Floral Kingdoms of the World.  Of course, the main attraction of the day is the viewing of Cape Point itself. This is an incredibly beautiful mass of land that dramatically juts out into the ocean.  It is an unforgettable experience to stand on the cliffs, wind in your hair, ocean all around you and steep cliff faces below. You cannot help but imagine and relive the lives of the Portuguese sailors who would travel for months in their attempts to round the Cape and sail to India in the 15th Century.

From Cape Point we make our way back along the False Bay to Simon’s Town to view the African Penguins.  You will get right up close to these adorable creatures that populate the beach and dunes in their hundreds. The Boulders Beach African Penguin colony has become world-renowned and is highly valued for providing a safe breeding haven for this threatened species and it should not be missed! If you still have the energy, your Cape Town Tour Guide can take you to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens for a guided introductory tour before you return to your hotel. Kirstenbosch is a spectacular, historical botanical haven tucked away behind Table Mountain, a nature lover’s paradise and a special treat for those who love gardens.

For an authentic and unforgettable Cape Peninsula experience, we highly recommend that you book a private tour with one of our experienced Cape Town Tour Guides.

Enjoy a scenic drive with this Cape Peninsula Private Tour. You'll be amazed by the penguin colony at Boulders Beach, the Cape of Good Hope or Hout Bay.

Visit Cape Point

The tour will start from your hotel in Cape Town. We'll head south to the Cape Peninsula, a place with beautiful natural landscapes that we'll admire in detail.

Our first visit will be the Sea Point , Clifton , Camps Bay and Llandudno beaches, areas with paradisiacal landscapes that will make it impossible for you to put down your cameras.

We'll also stop at Hout Bay , halfway between Cape Town and Cape Point. This quiet fishing village is famous for its large number of seals, as well as its traditional craft markets. We'll walk down to the harbour and stroll along the harbourside market, where you'll be able to buy some of these South African gems.

After this brief stop, we'll continue our journey through the Cape Peninsula along the famous Chapman's Peak Drive , one of the most beautiful roads in the world because of its proximity to the sea. We'll visit Boulders Beach (entrance fee not included), and find a large colony of penguins that roam freely along the coast.

We also can't miss the Cape of Good Hope , at the southern tip of Africa. This nature reserve (entrance fee not included) is one of the richest biologically speaking, so we'll find an endless number of plants and animals, such as zebras, baboons, turtles and even antelopes.

Finally, we'll return to Maidens Cove , where we'll see the famous Camps Bay beach (known for its fine white sand), the Twelve Apostles mountain range and Lion's Head.

The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve spreads out over the rocky headland. It’s a protected nature reserve and home to an array of antelope, the rare Cape mountain zebra and other unique animal species. It’s also a haven for marine birds, with 250 recorded bird species found in the reserve.

Cape Point is the very pointy end of the Cape Peninsula. It’s an instantly-recognised landmark and is often mistaken to be the southernmost tip of Africa. There are two national heritage monuments on Cape Point that were built to honour the world’s most famous explorers: Vasco da Gama and Bartolomeu Dias (who was the first European explorer to round Cape Point in 1488).

Full Day Tour

The Cape Peninsula day tour starts with a tour of Cape Town City Bowl and continues past the V&A Waterfront to the main suburbs of the Atlantic Seaboard. This includes Green Point, Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay. We travel past the Blue Flag beaches along a gorgeous scenic route with the glistening Atlantic Ocean on your right and the towering Twelve Apostle mountains on your left.

Hout Bay, Noordhoek and Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve

We make our way to the fishing village of Hout Bay, over the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive and into the quaint coastal town of Noordhoek. The scenic peninsula drive takes us to the magnificent Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point.

In Hout Bay, you have the option of taking a boat cruise to Seal Island (not included in the rate) or strolling around the popular mariner wharf and harbour where you’ll make friends with the friendly seals that pop up for a pat.

At the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, we visit the famous Cape Point Lighthouse. You have the option of a short but slightly steep walk on a well-worn path to the lighthouse or you can take the funicular railway to the top. The view is spectacular and you may see whales and dolphins in the bay.

Simons Town and Boulders Beach penguin colony

We end the morning in Simons Town which is a legendary naval town overlooking False Bay. You have the option of visiting the famous penguin colony at Boulders Beach (entrance fee excluded in the rate) or spending time strolling down the historic main street of Simons Town and popping into its quaint shops and museums.

We have a bite to eat and drinks (for your own account) at the Simons Town Mariner Wharf.

Kalk Bay, St James and Muizenberg

After lunch, we head back towards Cape Town and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens travelling along the False Bay coastal route. We pass through the seaside towns of Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, St James and Muizenberg.

The streets are lined with quirky bookstores, vintage clothing shops, surf shops and a collection of popular seaside restaurants and delis. We stop along the way to wander the streets, do a bit of shopping, watch the surfers in Muizenberg, whale watching if its whale season and to take photographs of the famous colourful Victoria-era beach huts.
