The food was exceptional. A good idea to have buffet style because we were able to sample so many new flavours to us. We were upgraded and the rooms far exceeded our expectations. We have never stayed anywhere so lovely Staff were all friendly and helpful. Binita and Ngupyen were great waitresses

Ratnamouli Palace

I had a wonderful experience, starting at check-in with professional and kind front desk staff. The room is huge and nice. The bed is very comfortable. There was a good selection of food and beverages at breakfast. I really appreciated the music the played at breakfast. It was a Saraswati mantra, very soothing! Overall it's good value for money.

Guwahati is a major commercial center and the capital of Assam. The downtown areas are crowded and bustling. I hired a car with driver for a day to visit half a dozen temples and other historic and religious sites within the city (on the south side of the Brahmaputra River) and in rural areas north of river. The trip was enjoyable, inexpensive, and very worthwhile.

the best part of this property is that you will be taken care of . the staff is exceptional and very helpful . totally worth the money . the food is so fresh and the cooking is home style . they do have Chinese and and indian menu . MAHESWAR LAND

This is the perfect hotel for a weekend getaway or while exploring Majuli. I had great time with host Jahnu. Traditional bamboo stay will give you different experience. He took me to place where Play practice was happening, which gave me the good glimps of Tradition in Assam and introduced me to some amazing stories of Mahabharat. Food and Tea both are dammmn good. Host was friendly and open minded. Definitely would love to visit again.

Stargaze Backpackers Hostel

Dipankar and his wife create a perfect environment for the hostel. You have your own space but it also has a very homely feel🤗. You have the option to have a delicious Assamese home cooked meal in the evenings and I also rented a bike to explore for the day. It is peaceful and has a beautiful garden. I really recommend staying here especially as a solo traveller. Thank you so much!

GRUHAM SOJOURN HOMESTAY

Comfortable homestay with good wifi and a hot water geyser in the room, located in a quiet old neighborhood of central Guwahati. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. It was a bit hard to communicate with the on-site staff member because we don't speak Assamese or Hindi, but another manager who did speak English was happy to help via Whatsapp.

We had an amazing stay at the Kaziranga Address. The hotel is clean, modern, convenient and in a perfect location just away from the busy streets. Amazing views of Assam from the balcony. The staff were the kindest we’ve had in India in 2 years (Shumi was amazing with our baby), and the food was brilliant. I will recommend this hotel over and over again.

Very friendly staff, the hotel is quite new and comfortable. Everything went very well, even with our 3 kids. Only little issue is that the hot water wasn't working in the showers, but they provided buckets of warm water on demand and very swiftly. Breakfast was nice as well! Thanks for a comfortable first night in Assam at the start of our trip.

This place is located in an Awesome location surrounded by hills and river on one side. Swiss Tents are clean. Owners himself hosts the guests and takes outmost care of them. Food served is in Assamese flavor and unlike rest of India is less spicy. A must visit location for nature lovers.

Good choice of dinner and breakfast options. Staff very pleasant, helpful, particularly Dimpi and the lady chef on the Assam counter. Liked the architectural style of the hotel and garden layout, a good respite from the hot bustling streets of Guwahati!

Located in the northeastern region of the country, Assam is known for its natural beauty, rich history, and cultural heritage. The state is blessed with mighty rivers, green valleys, majestic hills, wild forests, tea plantations, and rich fauna and flora. It is one of the top destinations for wildlife tourism in India. Assam also serves as a gateway for tourists to reach the seven sister states in Northeast India, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura, and Nagaland.

According to statistics by Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd., 5,934,791 domestic tourists and 31,739 international tourists visited the state in the year 2018. There are over 500 renowned hotels in Assam till date. These include luxury hotels and resorts, convention centers, and budget hotels in and around the magnificent Brahmaputra. These hotels cater to domestic and international tourists and are mainly concentrated around the city of Guwahati and district towns of Jorhat, Nagaon, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Barpeta, Silchar, Sivasagar and Karimganj.

Assam was ruled by many dynasties of which the Ahom were probably the most important and influential. The region was invaded by a number of rulers but, it was not colonized until 1821 when the third Burmese invasion took place. Three years later, after the First Anglo-Burmese War in 1824, the British took control of the region. By 1854, all of Assam came under the British rule as part of the Bengal Presidency. After the initial partition of Bengal, Assam was made part of Eastern Bengal and a few years later in 1912, Bengal was reunited and Assam was made an independent province. In 1950, Assam became part of the Republic of India.

Geography and Climate

Assam, a state in Northeast India, shares an international border with Bhutan to the north and Bangladesh in the south. Domestically, it shares a border with Arunachal Pradesh in the north, Manipur and Nagaland in the east, West Bengal in the west and Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura in the south. This state has three of the six physiographic divisions of India including the Eastern Hills (Northern Himalayas), the Brahmaputra plain (Northern Plains) and Karbi Anglong (Deccan Plateau). The Brahmaputra is the main river flowing through the state.

Assam has a tropical monsoon rainforest climate characterized by high humidity and heavy rain. The best time to visit Assam is between the months of March and April and from September to October. It is best to avoid visiting the state during the monsoon season.

Assamese cuisine is known for minimal use of spices. Some of the most popular Assamese delicacies include Khaar , Duck Curry, Aloo Pitika, Maasor Tenga, Ou Khatta, Xaak Aru Bhaji, Paro Manxho, Baanhgajor Lagot Kukura, Silkworm and Pitha . A meal is generally concluded with paan or raw betelnut. Rice is used not just for cooking but to brew, Xaj Pani , a local beer.

The Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. was incorporated on the 9th June, 1988 and registered under the Companies Act, 1956 Vide No.- 02-03006 of 1988-89. The State Govt. of Assam has promoted and set up the Corporation for growth and development of tourism in Assam. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

As per Memorandum & Articles of Associations, the main aims and objectives of the Corporation are briefly given below:-

ASSAM TOURISM : ITS POTENTIAL FOR INVESTMENT

Schemes / Infrastructure Projects sanctioned by the Government : Over the years, both the Central and State Govt. of Assam had identified and executed several large, medium and minor tourism projects for infrastructure building as well as schemes for marketing and promotion of Assam Tourism. These included infrastructure projects like the following all of which have had a major impact on promotion of tourism in the state of Assam.

There has been significant progress in most of the projects during the last few years. Once all the infrastructure projects are completed, these will go a long way in promoting Assam Tourism. Nevertheless, for sustainable growth of tourism, large investment for infrastructure development is called for. This can be possible if the private sector comes forward for investment considering the potential of Assam Tourism. ARRIVAL OF TOURISTS

The renewed emphasis on tourism, mainly in the sphere of infrastructure development has been well complimented by the recent statistics of tourist inflow as briefly depicted below :

PUBLIC - PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP

Tourism is one sector which cannot grow to its true potential with governmental efforts alone. It requires private initiatives for investment and promotion. The State Govt. has endeavored to intensity private sector investment and participation in management and development of the projects already set up and also for establishment of new projects.

With these objectives in view, at present 45 various projects / units are run by ATDC in association with private participation.

SPECIFIED PROJECTS FOR INVESTMENT & SETTING UP JOINT VENTURES

In the above backdrop, tourism being a multi-sectoral activity, can be promoted by investment in some major projects. A tentative list of such projects are given below : 1. Star Hotels/ Resorts and Convention Centres at Guwahati and other places This premier city of Guwahati offers scope for large hotels / resorts of 4 and 5 star categories with modern Convention Centres. 2. Floating Hotel & Restaurant / Marriage Hall etc on River Brahmaputra As a major centre of tourist attraction and to promote river tourism, there is ample scope to introduce "Floating Hotel & Restaurant / Marriage Hall etc on River Brahmaputra". Such a large project with all modern facilities and amenities has tremendous scope. 3. Luxury Cruises on River Brahmaputra Luxury Cruise Vessel can also be linked up for cruising between Guwahati and Dibrugarh on the Brahmaputra, which is a National Waterway, with navigation channel for at least 330 days a year to be maintained by Inland Waterways Authority of India. Such a project can be promoted for the high-end customers in domestic and overseas market. 4. Budget Hotels in district hotels There is scope for opening a chain of Budget hotels in district towns of Nagaon, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sonitpur, Dhubri, Barpeta, Silchar, Hailakandi, Karimganj etc. 5. Short Distance Flights There is tremendous scope in operating short distance flights connecting the major towns of Northeast India. 6. Ayurvedic and Healthcare resorts Assam's amazing scenic beauty with vast open areas and unpolluted air is perfect for setting up Ayurvedic and Healthcare resorts. 7.Leisure & amusement facilities on the Brahmaputra river The vast river Brahmaputra flowing the state of Assam offers tremendous potential for leisure and amusement facilities

8. Hover Craft /Speed Boat Services on the Brahmaputra river Introducing Hover Craft / Speed Boat services in the Brahmaputra may be another area which may be feasible for investment for linking some of the major tourist spots by river ways. 9. Hot -Air Ballooning, Rafting, Para sailing and other water sports Introducing Hot air Ballooning over Kaziranga National Park, Manas, Pobitora, Dibriu-Saikhowa National Park etc may also be yet another potential area as a viable commercial proposition. Likewise, investment for water sports like, para sailing on the Brahmaputra and rafting at Jia-bharali (near Tezpur) etc with all provisions of tourist amenities may be a very potential source of investment and development. 10. Golf Courses - Upgradation, Modernization and Management No other state in the country offers as many as 20 golf courses within a compact area as Assam does. A striking feature of the golf courses is the availability of large numbers of airstrips, which can be upgraded and modernized. The golf circuit will require modern accommodation facilities in selected places and investment for upgradation and modernization to promote them amongst the golf-lovers of the world and intensive marketing for their promotion. Promoting the golf courses and also the century old tea gardens amongst the present generation in UK, Scotland, etc besides golf lovers of different countries may be yet another viable area for investment.

The Govt. of Assam also welcomes project proposals with details of techno-economic feasibility report for setting up large revenue generating projects for setting up as joint venture with provision for equity participation by Govt. of India, Ministry of Tourism and the State Govt. The Govt. of Assam may also provide ground hospitality and other supports for technical experts for conducting techno-economic study for such tourism projects in selected areas

The State Govt. will continue its Policy Initiatives for growth of tourism in the State. If the fiscal incentives available to other industries are also provided to the project/units under tourism sector in near future by the Govt of India, it will go a long way for sustainable growth of tourism sector in the entire North East region.
