Looking for something to do with kids near Toulouse? A great option is the Zoo African Safari which offers plenty of fun and exciting activities for parents and children alike, from safari rides to interactive animal shows.

Personal Review about the Zoo African Safari

We have been to the zoo twice as both of our boys, like any toddler, love animals. I highly recommend the visit if you’re searching for something different to do with your children. 

Things we liked

• The safari ride is very fun for kids (and parents!), and it is what makes this zoo so unique (more details on it below)
• The zoo has a nice variety of animals, including giraffes, lions, elephants, and zebras.
• The zoo is committed to sustainability and conservation efforts and offers educational programs to raise awareness about wildlife and the importance of protecting their habitats.

Things that could be better

• While there is plenty to see for small children, I found the zoo a bit small compared to other zoos I visited
• The zoo could offer some additional attractions and more time slots to make the experience more engaging and educational. 
• While there is a lovely picnic area, the cafeteria doesn’t offer many options. I highly recommend bringing snacks or lunch and having an outdoor picnic

About the Zoo African Safari

The Zoo African Safari Toulouse is located in Plaisance-du-Touch. The zoo is situated in a scenic area surrounded by forests and rolling hills, providing a natural and immersive environment for the animals. 

It covers an area of over 300 hectares, making it one of the largest zoos in Europe. It is home to over 800 animals from different continents. Some of the most popular animals at the zoo include lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and primates. 

The zoo also has a large aviary housing various bird species, such as parrots, eagles, and ostriches. In addition to the more common animals, the zoo also has a variety of exotic species, including meerkats, lemurs, and red pandas. The animals are housed in spacious enclosures that are designed to mimic their natural habitats and provide a comfortable and safe environment. And to make you feel that you’re in a savannah. 

Safari ride

One of its main attractions is the African Safari experience, where visitors can embark on a tour to see the animals up close in their natural habitats. As you drive around the savannah, you’ll have the chance to spot zebras, giraffes, and other exotic wildlife in their natural environment. It’s an experience your kids won’t soon forget!

Attractions

The Zoo African Safari Toulouse offers some attractions and feeding times throughout the day (mostly in the afternoon), providing visitors with an opportunity to see the animals up close and learn more about their behaviors and habits. 

The shows and feeding times are scheduled at regular intervals and are announced on the zoo’s website and information boards. However, these attractions are only available at specific times and not throughout the year. It is best to check the zoo’s website for updated information. 

Some of the popular attractions include the bird of prey show, where visitors can see eagles and other birds in flight. The sea lion show, where trained sea lions perform tricks and stunts. And interacting and petting farm animals in the mini pedagogical farm. The feeding times are also a great way to observe the animals in action, as they interact with the zoo staff.

Practical information about the Zoo African Safari

Best time to visit .

The best time to visit the Zoo African Safari Toulouse is during the summer months between June and September. During this time, the weather is usually warm and sunny, making it ideal for outdoor activities and wildlife viewing. However, it is also the busiest time of the year, and the zoo can get crowded, particularly during weekends and public holidays. 

Visitors who prefer a quieter and more peaceful experience may consider visiting during the shoulder season, in April, May, or October. The weather during this time is generally mild, and the crowds are smaller, providing a more relaxed atmosphere. 

Visit duration time 

The Zoo African Safari website says it would take from anywhere to half a day to a full day. 

In our experience, however, 2.5h was sufficient to see everything, which is great if you visit the zoo in between your children’s naps. But keep in mind that this was the case with two young children. Perhaps with older children, the visit might be longer. Especially if you go in the afternoon during the summer months when there are more attraction options.

The safari ride takes about 30 minutes. You can walk around the zoo in about 1-1h.5h and then take a 30-minute picnic break. The duration might be a little bit longer if you get lucky to see one of the attractions. But during both of the times we visited (mid-morning), once in the fall and another during the winter, there wasn’t any attraction available. 

It is best to visit the zoo’s website for updated visiting hours as it changes throughout the different seasons. 

How to get to the Zoo

The easiest and best way is by car. Like this, you can fully enjoy the zoo experience as it includes the safari ride. There might be options via publication transportation. But all of the options I found from Toulouse included taking more than one public transportation.                                                                                                                                                                           

Whether you’re looking for a place where your kids can learn more about animals or just want a fun family outing, the Zoo African Safari in Toulouse has something for everyone! With its interactive animal shows, safari ride, and beautiful animals it’s sure to be a fun day out that your whole family will enjoy.

Parc zoologique African Safari

Lieu de loisirs à plaisance-du-touch.

A seulement 20 minutes de Toulouse , à Plaisance-du-Touch , le Zoo African Safari vous invite à découvrir 600 animaux sauvages issus de 80 espèces, dont certaines étant menacées d'extinction.

Au programme, pour les visiteurs : découverte ludique et pédagogique de la réserve africaine (au volant de son véhicule) et du parc à pied ombragé, spectacles d'otaries et d'oiseaux (en saison). Une sortie idéale pour les enfants et la famille !

Le parc oeuvre à la sauvegarde de ces espèces en participant notamment à des Programmes d'Elevage et Studbooks Européens (EEP et ESB).

Sur place : un parking gratuit, une cafétéria avec terrasse, deux aires de pique-nique - en plein air avec brumisateur et couverte, une aire de jeux, deux boutiques.

Pour les groupes (minimum 20 personnes - à titre professionnel), plusieurs formules sont proposées en complément de la visite : restauration, location de salles, Arbre de Noël. Deux aires et deux salles de réception sont à leur disposition.

Le parc est ouvert tous les jours, toute l'année.

Famille 

Des aménagements sont disponibles pour les tout-petits.  Toilettes munies d’un espace change bébé. Cafétéria équipée de micro-ondes.

Parc ombragé

Le parc est situé au milieu d’une forêt de chênes et les allées sont ombragées. Les brumisateurs vous permettent également de profiter de la fraîcheur !

Aire de jeux

L’aire de jeux est située à côté de la cafétéria et de l’espace de pique-nique, elle est à disposition des enfants à partir de 3 ans. Pendant votre repas ou goûter, les enfants pourront profiter des jeux à leur disposition avant de repartir découvrir les animaux ! Destinés à la grimpe, à la glisse ou bien encore pour sauter, les jeux proposés par le zoo African Safari sont avant tout choisis pour garantir la sécurité des enfants, sans enlever le plaisir de jouer.

Brumisateur

En cas de forte chaleur, petits et grands pourront se rafraîchir grâce aux brumisateurs. Fraîcheur garantie !

Stationnement

Un grand parking gratuit est à votre disposition. Les camping-cars peuvent également y stationner et sont autorisés à y passer la nuit.

Deux boutiques proposent de multiples produits en lien avec African Safari et la Protection et la Conservation des espèces : peluches, stylos, bloc-notes, livres, textiles, jeux, … Situées à la cafétéria et à l’entrée du parc, vous pourrez repartir avec un souvenir de votre visite !

Selon la saison, et en partenariat avec UB Photographie, des photographes vous attendent dans l’entrée du parc à pied pour capturer votre visite.

Restauration

Une cafétéria est à votre disposition pour une pause gourmande salée ou sucrée. Juste à côté, près de l’aire de jeux, l’aire de pique-nique vous permettra de faire une halte dans un cadre ombragé, proche d’un brumisateur !

Afin d’éviter les actes de malveillance et d’en limiter les conséquences, le parc est équipé d’un dispositif de vidéo-surveillance 24h/24h et 7j/7.

Des défibrillateurs sont disponibles à l’entrée de à la cafétéria.

Accessibilité

La majeure partie du parc African Safari est accessible aux personnes à mobilité réduite.  La partie pédestre est accessible en fauteuil roulant mais n’est pas totalement adaptée. En effet, le parc à pied en lui-même est en forte pente : il est donc nécessaire de prévoir un encadrement suffisant pour sécuriser la descente et aider à la remontée à la fin de la visite. Un guide de visite est disponible à l’accueil et vous permettra de suivre un sens de visite adapté, en évitant les escaliers.  En cas de grosse pluie, le revêtement du parc à pied étant en castine, il est très facilement friable.  Des tranchées peuvent se créer ce qui peut causer des dégâts difficilement réparables rapidement

Stationnement PMR

Des emplacements réservés aux véhicules des personnes à mobilité réduite sont prévus à l’entrée du parking principal, proche de l’entrée du parc à pied.

Des sanitaires sont accessibles aux personnes à mobilité réduite en 2 points du parcours : à la cafétéria et sous le bassin des otaries, en face de l’ile aux aras.

Animation des otaries : accès possible directement par le haut des tribunes. 

Animation des oiseaux : accès direct. Un.e soigneur.se se trouve systématiquement à l’entrée pour toute aide, si besoin.
