Free calling app Botim has partnered with travel website musafir.com to allow users to submit applications for UAE tourist visas. Prices start from Dh450, Khaleej Times can reveal.

“The Botim app now allows customers to apply for 30- and 60-day single and multi-entry visas. This will allow expatriates living in the UAE to bring their family and friends to the country for a short visit more easily and conveniently as other options are typically more costly and time-consuming,” Abdallah Abu Shaikh, co-founder and CEO of Astra Tech, Botim’s parent company, told Khaleej Times in an exclusive interview.

The move is part of efforts to transform Botim into an ‘ultra’ app.

“The service can also be used by tourists in the country who wish to extend their visas. With musafir.com’s extensive experience in the UAE tourist visa processing, the visa applications process will be smooth, efficient, and hassle-free for customers,” Abu Shaikh said.

On Botim, the standard turnaround time for visa applications is between 24 and 72 hours. An option for ‘express’ applications can be completed within 24 hours. “This service will also permit visitors to get free Internet calling, mobile top-ups, recharge services, and more,” added Abu Shaikh.

How it works

The UAE tourist visa service on the app provided by musafir.com is an end-to-end service. It begins with the visa application form, where users will select ‘visa service’, provide details, submit their application, and make the payment.

“Once done, users can track their application status on the Botim app and receive a copy of the approved tourist visa. The app also features a transaction history page, where users are able to view their applications submitted to date,” said Abu Shaikh.

New features

Other new features on the app include money transfers, where customers are able to transfer money to friends and family internationally through a partnership with MoneyGram; and a Red Crescent donations tile that enables customers to donate to those affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey.

Premium experiences

Abu Shaikh stressed that Botim is “completely free for everyone in any corner of the world”, but users can choose to upgrade their experience “by taking a very economical paid membership called Botim VIP”.

Through this, “users can get access to HD calling, an ad-free experience, better call quality optimisation, a VIP profile badge and beta access to upcoming features”.

“Users can choose to take monthly or yearly plans and even gift Botim VIP to their friends and family members to enjoy the ultimate experience. The VIP programme will soon be getting some … upgrades which will make it even more attractive for Botim users.”

Calling to remain free

The app will still remain free for its “growing user base of 90 million users” even after it is relaunched.

When asked if the relaunch of the app is now complete, the CEO of Astra Tech said these services are just the first steps towards making Botim an ultra app.

“With Astra Tech transforming Botim into an ultra app; this will facilitate the ultra app’s ability to grant access to various products and services, including fintech, international money transfer, peer-to-peer money transfer, bill payments, government services, pharmacy, e-commerce and more at an unprecedented speed.

“Our ultra app will revolutionise the way in which users interact, engage, and transact with each other by making the experience significantly more seamless, faster, and intuitive. Unlike super apps, Botim’s ultra app will not rely on rented growth or jumping from one business line to another, nor will it rely on partnering businesses or apps to run services on its behalf,” Abu Shaikh added.

Everything went WRONG!

Everything went WRONG!! THIS IS THE WORST TRAVEL COMPANY IN THE UAE! I've book a holiday package and paid in FULL for THAILAND in May (6weeks) before the travel date! I had a lengthy discussion with the agent before paying and he (Praman) assured me based on my passport, I can get a Visa On Arrival. I received further details 13days before the flight and again Visal on Arrival. Now 3 days before the flight, I was informed the rules have changed and I now need a visa on my passport to enter Thailand, with a very extensive list of documents required, bank statements, NOC from my company, passport photos etc. through the embassy in AD. After undergoing alot of stress and headaches, I've managed to gather these documents overnight, and when I was about to pay a further 1200aed for the visa, I was THEN told I need an international yellow fever vaccination card (which by luck i had but my husband didn't) . This was a collusal waste of my time and unacceptable with very poor planning / management of travel tours! I have requested for a FULL REFUND and is still waiting for confirmation from Musafir!! Why is this company scamming people and taking their money without knowing /sharing the requirements for entry to the customer in a timely manner? How can this company still be in business? AVOID booking any holidays with this company!

Worst travel agent ever!

I would want to give them a minus rating if possible. Their agents have absolutely 0 knowledge or courtesy. They send vague emails once a day and waste your 24 hrs in waiting for further details. There is no empathy, concern or professionalism. In short they just don't care. I'm stranded outside the country waiting for visa which I usually receive in 24-48 hrs from other agencies. They send me emails mentioning different file numbers each time, vague with 0 details about the issue or the solution. I send a million mails stating how critical my situation is and there is 0 concern!! Shame on them for ill treating their customers to this extent.

Excellent Georgia Trip by Musafir and also suggestions for improvements

Overall, Georgia Package Tour was good. The guide was very excellent. Stay at Ibis Styles hotel was good. Climate was cold in December beginning, but enjoyable. It was drizzling throughout. Some places (Badiauri bread making, Sulpher bath, etc.) in the itinerary was missed out due to paucity of time. Musafir can extend the program by one more day by increasing cost. Musafir can also state in the itinerary the other items not included whereas tourists/customers might be interested - Example Baloon ride near the place of stay can be availed at own expenses. The above are all suggestions for improvement and not negtives.

Entry Visa:  Golden Visa holders receive an entry visa for six months with multiple entries to facilitate residence issuance.

Long-term Residence: The Golden Visa is valid for five or ten years and is renewable.

Golden Visa Requirements

Property owners with property or properties valued at a minimum of AED 2 million ($544,514) may be eligible for a renewable five-year Golden Visa. Investors can also purchase properties with a loan from designated local banks.

Investors in investment funds may be eligible for a ten-year Golden Visa.

Visa-seekers should submit a letter from an accredited UAE investment fund confirming a deposit of AED 2 million ($544,514), or a valid commercial or industrial license and a memorandum of association indicating capital of at least AED 2 million ($544,514).

Public investors must submit a letter from the Federal Tax Authority stating an annual government payment of no less than AED 250,000 ($68,064).

Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs may qualify for a five-year Golden Visa if they own an economic project of a technical or future-oriented nature based on risk and innovation. Entrepreneurs must obtain approval letters from a UAE auditor confirming that the project is valued at no less than AED 500,000 ($136,129). Authorities in the emirate should also verify that the project is of a technical or future-oriented nature.

Entrepreneurs must provide a letter from an accredited business incubator in the UAE endorsing the establishment of the proposed activity in the country.

Other visa-seekers may secure a ten-year Golden Visa by fulfilling the criteria outlined below for each category:

Doctors must have an approval letter from the Ministry of Health and Prevention in the UAE to practice medicine.

Scientists must obtain a letter of recommendation from the Emirates Council of Scientists or a letter from the Secretariat of the Mohammed bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence affirming that they have been awarded the Medal of Scientific Excellence.

Inventors must obtain a recommendation letter from the Ministry of Economy affirming that their contribution to the country's economic value.

Creative Individuals in Culture and Arts

University Students: University students from A- or B-class universities rated by the Ministry of Education may provide a recommendation letter from the university or an accredited graduation certificate stating a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 for A-class universities and 3.8 for B-class universities. Graduation must be within two years.

Outstanding Students from Foreign Universities:  Outstanding students from foreign universities ranked among the top 100 globally, according to the Ministry of Education's recognized rating system, may be eligible for a Golden Visa. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. Graduation must be within two years and the certificate accredited by the Ministry of Education.

Pioneers of Humanitarian Work

Pioneers of humanitarian work can obtain a 10-year Golden Visa.

Eligible candidates include employees of international and regional organizations with at least five years of service; employees of civil associations and public-interest institutions with at least five years of service; individuals receiving recognition from local, regional, or international humanitarian organizations; humanitarian funders contributing at least AED 2 million ($544,514).

Where to Apply

To apply for the UAE's Golden Visa, candidates should submit the necessary documents via the Federal Authority For Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security’s (ICP) website or app or the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) website or app.

In May 2024, the UAE cabinet approved the issuance of a 10-year Blue Residence Visa , designed to recognize and honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to environmental protection.
