Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program

People boarding local metro buses

  • Of this, $390 million in funding is authorized under the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program.
  • The funding opportunity will advance FTA’s priorities  of strengthening U.S. bus manufacturing, containing vehicle costs, and accelerating the delivery of new vehicles.
  • This funding opportunity also introduces streamlined application requirements for tribes requesting less than $1 million, making it easier for tribes with relatively small requests to apply. See this resource for more information.
  • February 22, 2024 general webinar for all applicants ( Passcode : t0fTrr@+)
  • March 5, 2024 webinar including Q&A session focused on rural and tribal applicants ( Passcode : G@7x85vL)

The Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Program (49 U.S.C. 5339(b)) makes federal resources available to states and direct recipients to replace, rehabilitate and purchase buses and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities, including technological changes or innovations to modify low or no emission vehicles or facilities. Funding is provided through formula allocations and competitive grants.

Allocation of Funding

Funding is allocated to projects on a competitive basis, from proposals submitted to FTA in response to a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). Past project selections include:

Eligible Recipients

Eligible applicants for the Buses and Bus Facilities Program include designated recipients that allocate funds to fixed-route bus operators, States (including territories and Washington D.C.) or local governmental entities that operate fixed route bus service, and Indian tribes.

Eligible subrecipients include all otherwise eligible applicants and also private nonprofit organizations engaged in public transportation.

Eligible Activities

Capital projects to replace, rehabilitate and purchase buses, vans, and related equipment, and to construct bus-related facilities, including technological changes or innovations to modify low or no emission vehicles or facilities. Additionally, 0.5% of a request may be for workforce development training, and an additional 0.5% may be for training at the National Transit Institute . Applicants proposing any project related to zero-emission vehicles must also spend 5% of their award on workforce development and training as outlined in their Zero-Emission Transition Plan , unless the applicant certifies that their financial need is less.

Statutory References

49 U.S.C. Section 5339(b), IIJA § 30018

Funding Availability

Funds remain available for obligation for four fiscal years. This includes the fiscal year in which the amount is made available or appropriated plus three additional years.

The federal share of eligible capital costs is 80 percent of the net capital project cost, unless the grant recipient requests a lower percentage. The Federal share may exceed 80 percent for certain projects related to the ADA and the Clean Air Act. All low-no emission projects are attributable to compliance with the Clean Air Act and/or the Americans with Disabilities Act. Therefore, the Federal share of the cost of leasing or purchasing a low or no emission transit bus is not to exceed 85 percent of the total transit bus cost. The federal share in the cost of leasing or acquiring low- or no-emission bus-related equipment and facilities is 90 percent of the net project cost. Applicants must identify these specific activities in their application in order to receive this increased federal share.

6 Tour Companies Dedicated to Travelers with Disabilities

By Arundhati Nath

San Pedro de Atacama Chile

Growing up, Neha Arora didn’t have the easiest time traveling with her family—her father is visually impaired and her mother is a wheelchair user. “We’d travel 2,000 miles only to realize the place wasn’t accessible or wouldn’t give us the experience we were looking forward to,” says Arora. In 2016, she founded Planet Abled , a travel company that caters to the needs of people with various disabilities, a group the World Health Organization estimates at 15 percent of the world’s population. Arora isn’t the only one pushing for more thoughtful travel experiences—here’s a look at six companies focused on accessible travel .

Travel for All

Travel for All has organized more than 5,000 vacations around the world for travelers with a variety of requirements, including cane users, slow walkers, hearing and vision impaired persons, travelers with complex health issues like dialysis and developmental disabilities, and wheelchair users. “As multiple sclerosis began to affect my own personal travel, I researched what resources could assist me with executing travel using my wheelchair,” says CEO Tarita Davenock. “I was shocked when I saw the lack of services.” Every trip Travel for All plans comes with an accessibility specialist. “We research and give our clients the pros and cons of any area in the world before planning the trip, so our client knows what to expect while they are in that destination,” says Davenock. “Meticulous planning and great attention to detail are the keystones of keeping our vacations safe.”

Seable Holidays

A Seable group trip in Cambodia, where travelers visited the Wat Phnom temple

Seable Holidays

Seable Holidays specializes in trips for visually impaired travelers. All trips include trained chaperones—who undergo a background check—as well as inclusive sports and sensory activities like horse riding, scuba diving, kayaking, wine tasting, yoga, and tactile museum excursions. And everything is thoroughly vetted, with chaperones, activities, and accommodations tested by blind people before they’re recommended by the company. While trips are on pause during the pandemic, Seable Holidays will bring them back in summer 2022.

Easy Access Travel

Debra Kerper and her team at Easy Access Travel accommodate most types of physical disabilities in their solo trips and mixed group tours. While Kerper sometimes relies on her own experiences as a traveler in a wheelchair, she says every trip needs to be tailored to an individual client’s needs. To do so, the team spends time getting to know their clients to match them with the best vacation choice, and visits hotels and tourist spots for inspection, takes cruises beforehand, and collects information from trustworthy sources to ensure a safe, accessible, and fun experience.

Planet Abled

Neha Arora’s Planet Abled arranges customized tours for people with different types of disabilities, and also plans group tours that include non-disabled people. Their trips mostly take place in India and South East Asia , with plans to expand to countries in Europe, and popular activities include river rafting, skiing, trekking, and wildlife safaris. Some of their extra touches include assigning a travel buddy for the blind, seeking special permission from museums so clients can touch and feel the articles on display, and arranging for sign language interpreters for the hearing impaired.

Wheel the World

Alvaro Silberstein, the CEO of Wheel the World , was paralyzed from the chest down after surviving an accident at 18. This didn’t stop him from seeing the world—he’s since visited 30 countries on five continents. “I realized that people with disabilities should be able to explore places as anyone else,” he says. Most of his clients are adults or seniors with mobility disabilities and wheelchair users, and he can arrange solo travel or group trips. Silberstein wants to create more awareness around accessibility, and his company pays special attention to details like the height of beds, width of doors, and accessibility of bathrooms, compiling this information on the Wheel the World website. Their multi-day trips are designed with local tour operators with a focus on accessible travel, and includes access to adaptive bikes, beach wheelchairs, and equipment for hiking, skydiving, kayaking, scuba diving, and surfing—they’ve even planned Macchu Pichu trips for wheelchair users . The company makes sure “prices are competitive and the pricing is the same no matter if the clients have a disability or not,” says Silberstein.

Tapooz Travel Portugal

A quiet moment in Sintra, Portugal

Tapooz Travel

Laurent Roffe and Aicha Nystrom spent years volunteering with an organization that provides outdoors excursions to people with disabilities. “We have many friends in wheelchairs as part of our close community,” says Roffe. “I’m a sea kayak guide and [Aicha] is a ski guide and this has always been a source of immense joy for us. Launching our accessible travel business was a natural extension of what we are and what we like to do.” Their company, Tapooz Travel , specializes in trips for those with mobility issues, including visual and hearing impairment, rather than cognitive disabilities. When they have a client with a visual or hearing impairment, they make sure there’s at least one guide trained in sign language, or have a guide who can help with things like reading the menu at the restaurant and providing a voice narration during a site visit. Their network also includes adaptive sports instructors, sailboat skippers, tribal elders, massage therapists, and hot air balloon operators , all of whom are trained to work with travelers with disabilities.

Drive Less and Save More on gas, tolls, parking, and vehicle maintenance by commuting together with other working professionals. Vehicles travel in High-Occupancy Vehicle lanes that reduce the stress of sitting in traffic.

METRO Star Vanpool is ideal if you live or work where METRO bus service isn’t available. Vanpoolers meet at a designated, central location where they leave their cars during the day while the van is in use.

If you don’t know others you can ride with, we’ll try to match you with commuters who share similar travel patterns.

We also allow companies to become vanpool sponsors, creating access to certain tax benefits.

Cars traveling in the HOV lane on Interstate 45.

You can use express lanes to bypass traffic and save time on portions of:

  • Interstate 10 (managed by Texas Department of Transportation)
  • Interstate 45
  • U.S. Highway 59
  • U.S. Highway 290

If you’re the only person riding in your vehicle, a toll is required. If you have multiple occupants, you may not need to pay a toll depending on:

  • Time of day
  • Freeway you’re traveling

Ways to Pay

There are multiple options for paying the regular or discounted fare when you board, as shown below.

METRO Fare Cards

METRO Fare Cards

Serving as contactless fare payment options – these forms of payment are used by most METRO riders. They function as  debit cards for riding METRO. You can continually load and store money on them – and then money will be deducted each time you pay your fare with a METRO Q® Fare Card or daily upon use with a METRO Day Pass.

Customer tapping METRO Q® Fare Card on fare validator when boarding local bus.

Tap your regular or discounted METRO Q® Fare Card or Day Pass on the validator that can be found:

  • Inside the local bus when you board
  • On all METRORail platforms (some fare validators are attached to ticket vending machines, others are freestanding or attached to platform railing)
  • On all METRORapid platforms (look for the TAP HERE message with an arrow pointing to the validator)
  • Inside the curb2curb vehicle when you board

If you prefer to go contactless, you can wave your card close to the validator as well.

Make sure the light registers green in the upper right when you tap or wave.

After the fare amount is deducted from your METRO Q® Fare Card, you’ll receive free transfers between any of these METRO services for up to three hours in any direction:

  • METRO curb2curb

For transfers to Park & Ride bus service using a METRO Q® Fare Card, you'll only pay the fare difference for up to three hours in any direction.

A METRO Day Pass allows you to ride local service as often as you like during the day for a maximum of $3 (regular fare) or $1.50 (discounted fare).

NOTE: If you use a METRO Day Pass on Park & Ride service, the cost to ride doesn't get applied to the maximum daily card deduction. Because of that, we don’t recommend using a METRO Day Pass on Park & Ride service.

METRO Q Mobile Ticket

METRO Q Mobile Ticket

This is a contactless fare payment option. Download the METRO Q Ticketing app to your smartphone and sign up for an account on the app. That will allow you to purchase regular fare mobile tickets to board METRO Local Bus, METRORail, METRORapid, curb2curb and Park & Ride Bus. Discounted fare mobile tickets aren’t available for purchase.

Customer boarding bus with activated METRO Q Mobile Ticket.

Once you purchase and activate a mobile ticket, it will display animated colors and motion on your phone. Show that to the bus operator as you board Local Bus, Park & Ride Bus or curb2curb as shown in the photo, or to a METRO fare inspector or METRO Police Officer on METRORail or METRORapid.   After you activate your mobile ticket, it's valid for three hours .

After you activate a Local Single Ride or Local Day Pass   mobile ticket, you’ll receive free transfers between any of these METRO services in any direction:

  • METRO curb2curb

To transfer to Park & Ride service, you'll need to purchase and activate a  Park & Ride mobile ticket. It entitles you to free transfers between any METRO service of equal or lesser value.

Paying your fare with a METRO Q Mobile Ticket entitles you to METRO’s 5 for 50 offer – you’ll be credited with five free trips after you’ve activated 50 mobile tickets.

For each of your five free trips, you can choose to activate a Local Single Ride mobile ticket or any Park & Ride mobile ticket for up to three hours at no charge.

METRO Single Ride Ticket

Vending Machine Ticket

If you plan to ride METRORail or METRORapid Silver Line, you’re welcome to pay with a METRORail or METRORapid vending machine ticket. Tickets can be purchased from a ticket vending machine using cash, credit card or debit card. Ticket vending machines are located:

  • On all METRORail platforms
  • On all METRORapid Silver Line Platforms
  • At the Northwest Transit Center
  • At the Westpark / Lower Uptown Transit Center

The ticket is only valid for use on METRORail or METRORapid for up to three hours in any direction.

Customer showing METRORail vending machine ticket to fare inspector

Upon request, show it to a METRO Fare Inspector or METRO Police Officer – either on the platform prior to boarding or on the vehicle during your ride.

When paying with a METRORail or METRORapid ticket, transfers to other METRO services aren’t included.

METRO Money

METRO Money

A contactless fare payment option – this is a popular choice for agencies, hotels and convention groups looking to provide a disposable fare card to clients, customers or guests. The card comes preloaded with amounts ranging from $1.25 to $20. These cards can't be reloaded.

Customer tapping METRO Money card on fare validator when boarding.

Tap your METRO Money card located on the validator that can be found:

Maharashtra begins free travel for those above 75. Details here

The special privilege was started on august 25 and is available for msrtc buses for travel within the state..

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced that senior citizens above the age of 75 can Friday onwards travel free-of-cost on the state-run buses or ST buses, officials said.

An MSRTC bus (HT FILE PHOTO)

A Maharashtra road transport release quoted the state-run transport undertaking's vice chairman and general manager Shekhar Channe as saying that those eligible for this free travel scheme will also get a fare refund if they had booked their tickets before August 26.

The announcement of the new facility was made by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the state assembly a few days ago.

Things to know:

  • The free travel facility on ST buses can be availed by showing identity documents for a proof of age – like Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving licence, voter's card etc, the release said.
  • The special privilege is not available on MSRTC's city buses. It is also only available for journeys within the state limits.
  • Additionally, those between the age of 65 and 75 will get a 50 per cent rebate on ticket fares on select types of bus services operated by the MSRTC.
  • Shinde had made an announcement regarding the free travel for the 75-plus during a cabinet meeting a day after Independence Day as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

MSRTC has a fleet of more than 16,000 buses and used to ferry almost 65 lakh passengers per day before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

Recently, MSRTC decided to introduce nearly 100 new air-conditioned and pollution-free electric buses on the Mumbai-Pune route. The buses will be initiated by the end of this year, the agency had said.

Free TSRTC Bus Travel Service for Women Passengers: A Comparative and Perceptual Study

Profile image of Ajay Kumar Punna

The new Telangana government, within two days of its formation, has implemented the Free TSRTC bus travel facility for women, one of the three benefits under the Maha Lakshmi Scheme – first of their six poll guarantee schemes. Similar facilities were implemented in other Indian states previously and are in operation. This article aims to discover the rationale of the state governments behind providing such facilities and study the impact of the free bus facility for women in Telangana by comparing it with similar schemes/facilities in other states and their implications. The study also aims to analyse and interpret the perceptions of TSRTC employees (Bus drivers and conductors), women and men passengers in Telangana, regarding the positive and negative impacts of the free bus facility and the resulting economic and social implications. Accordingly, the study was conducted by collecting both primary and secondary data for quite an in-depth and scientific analysis. The primary data was collected by performing personal interviews and questionnaires shared with men and women of Hyderabad, while the secondary data has been collected from journals, publications and news articles on the topic of free bus travel schemes.

Since December 2012, there has been increased attention to women’s experience of public transport. While the demand to make public transport safer for women is rightly emphasized, there is a need for a holistic approach to “engender public transport” i.e. making men and women’s concerns an integral part of the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation (UNESCO 1997) of public transport. Drawing from various research studies in India and globally, this article highlights the differences in men and women’s travel patterns, met and unmet needs in bus-based public transport and suggests key areas of intervention.

Gender & Development

Seama Mowri , Saakshi Joshi , Sanghamitra Roy

Over time, the transport sector has grown more cognisant of gender differences in planning and policy. Yet, extant literature on transport shows that challenges, such as sexual harassment of women still prevail. The value of this study is its contribution towards genderresponsive transport policies with a focus on women by highlighting (1) the spectrum of barriers that prevent women’s mobility across origin to destination journeys; and (2) construction of safety by using interventions and tools available to them, namely technology, womenonly solutions, and infrastructural design. The findings are based on data from in-depth interviews with women participants in two Indian cities – Delhi and Kolkata. Drawing from our research, key policy suggestions include framing interventions in a rights-based manner, institutionalising gender-disaggregated data to inform interventions, and sensitising institutions such as the law enforcement on gender equity and women’s rights to the city. This research would be especially beneficial for regions in and beyond South Asia sharing similar contexts.

In most urban areas, buses are the most heavily used form of public transportation and more so in Indian cities where buses make up for over 90% of public transport ridership. In the selected Indian metro cities, where formal bus based PT systems are operated by public agencies, they are over-reliant on state support to sustain operations as fare box collections are inadequate in spite of having relatively high ridership. The main challenge for all this is to achieve long term financial sustainability of public transport systems while providing good quality and affordable bus services.

Saurabh Dandapat

Although buses are the predominant public transport mode, the quality of bus service is extremely poor in almost all Indian cities. The poor quality of bus service, along with economic progression, is leading to rapid growth of private vehicle ownership and usage in urban areas. Historically, the bus fare has been considered as the only socio-political concern in urban India without any emphasis on the quality of service. This paper presents an investigation into the perception of trip makers towards quantitative and qualitative attributes of the bus system in Kolkata metropolitan city. A stated choice experiment was designed, and the data collected from trip makers was analyzed by developing a multinomial logit and random parameter logit models. The willingness-to-pay values were also calculated in order to understand the perception of trip makers towards bus service attributes. The results indicate that the fare is not the only concern to trip makers. The work justifies the need for improving the overall quality of bus service to enhance the attractiveness of the bus system and the benefits to bus users.

This study portrays continual constraints experiencing by women while traveling by bus within Dhaka city. Most of the time buses remain overcrowded because of deficiency and improper management which cause the adverse and unsafe environment for the traveler, especially for women. Women are facing verbal or nonverbal harassment, unwelcoming touches, sometimes direct contact with the sexual parts by co-passengers or conductor that is hindering personal and social growth. This research aims to investigate the actual reason, nature of harassment, effects on the victim and address the solution of woman harassment on the public bus. To conduct this study, firstly an exploratory was done to find out actual fact and 18 specific hypotheses had been developed through structured questionnaire; data were collected from the target population and analyzed with the statistical tool (SPSS). Results of multiple regressions conclude that-lacking social justice and strong protest against woman harassment on the bus has a significant impact on identified factors. Findings of this paper will help to the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), Government policymaker, other women's organizations' and NGO to formulate policy in the broader aspect that will ensure women friendly environment on the public bus.

This paper asserts that any study of travel behaviour is incomplete without understanding the circumstances of those who are captive users of non-motorised transport. The perspective of gender is vital to understanding this, because experience has shown that women, especially from low-income households, travel shorter distances than their male counterparts and are reliant on non-motorized modes. A study of travel patterns conducted in slums in Bangalore finds that that women's mobility is very different from that of men, which the paper attempts to view in the context of the inherent patriarchal nature of Indian society as well as the nature of post-reform economic growth in Indian cities. This is exacerbated by the tendency of city authorities in India to plan road infrastructure for motorised modes to the exclusion of those who are forced walk or cycle: the 'poor man's modes'. It is hoped that studies like this will raise debates on gender sensitisation and its significance as well as calling for a re-examination of the cycle of increased motorisation and enclosure of commons in our cities.

New bus stop facilities designed to shield riders from the heat, improve accessibility

B us riders from Corpus Christi to San Patricio County will see 25 new bus shelters, 133 new benches and 115 EcoSeats added to transportation routes by the end of 2024.

The new structures are part of the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority's Shelter Expansion Program, which aims to install 400 state-of-the-art shelters featuring solar-powered lighting, passenger seating and trash receptacles by the end of this year.

CCRTA has exercised a 1-year option within an agreement with Tolar Manufacturing Company, based in California, to install the additional shelters. The agency developed the Shelter Expansion Program in partnership with Tolar for the company to manufacture, deliver and install 40 new bus shelters each month beginning in September 2022, according to a May 19, 2023, press release published on the Tolar website. The company has built hundreds of shelters across Corpus Christi since 2006, the release stated.

Once complete, the new EcoSeats and shelters will provide bus riders with extra coverage and protection from the harsh sunlight and extreme heat of South Texas, with both the shelters and Tolar EcoSeats equipped with solar-powered lighting from dusk to dawn.

"The EcoSeat also allows for shade to be provided at bus stops with limited right-of-way due to its single pole design," said Heriberto Rodriguez, a public relations manager with Coverly Professional Services and Tolar media contact.

The new facilities are part of the organization's priority of improving overall rider experience through safety, security and accessibility. CCRTA has been looking at ways to offer customers more stops featuring amenities to improve rider experience while expanding options at locations where limited space may not accommodate a full shelter.

Almost 45% of the 1,375 bus stops located in the 846-square-mile service area where CCRTA operates public transportation have shelters, which is above the national average, said Rita Patrick, managing director of Public Relations at CCRTA. More than 60% of stops qualify as compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and many are already equipped with the solar lighting and Tolar materials, so riders in cities including Robstown, Bishop, Banquete, Port Aransas, Driscoll and Gregory may have caught a bus while waiting at one of the newer shelters.

Existing bus stop amenities depend on factors including ridership, Title VI equitability, accessibility, ROW and available land use infrastructure, according to information provided in the CCRTA Fleet Forward Long-Range System Plan Final Report, published in December of 2022.

Shelters are placed at bus stops with at least 30 average daily boardings and bus stops with 10 or fewer daily riders if they are at frequent transfer points, are served by routes with higher wait times, or if they are located within a quarter mile of major employment centers, grocery stores, schools, apartments, social services offices, medical facilities or senior centers, according to the final report. Benches without shelters, along with a trash can, pole and signage, may be installed at stops with fewer riders.

A bus stop with a minimum of 10 average daily boardings and adequate ROW warrants an advertising bench, while stop locations with five to 10 boardings are equipped with a standard bench. Stop locations with fewer than five daily boardings have smaller benches, a pole and a sign.

The CCRTA Service Development Team is currently working on the list of stops for upcoming shelters and will consider the same factors of ridership, equitability, accessibility and ROW in determining where they will be placed, said CCRTA Public Relations Administrator Jeremy Sirio.

Some shelters will be added to new areas, while others might be installed in places with out-of-date shelters that need to be replaced, Patrick noted. Some current bus stops do not have EcoSeats providing standalone passenger seating and solar security lighting, so the upgraded features will be new to those areas.

"We study and plan extensively where the shelters and EcoSeats will be placed and try to plan it out methodically and equitably before we build," she said.

For Corpus Christi resident Allan Welch, who said he has been commuting in the city every day by bus since 1989, the upgraded facilities provide shade for customers while they wait in hot weather.

The seasoned rider, who estimated that he waits about 30 minutes for the bus to arrive at the No. 1107 station on Route 29 - Staples Street, which is a Tolar shelter, said he appreciated the amenities that the bus system offers, and considers them a necessity for people who are disabled or elderly.

"They need more of the new bus stops," he said.

According to details in the final report, CCRTA currently operates 34 fixed routes on weekdays, 27 fixed routes on Saturdays and 19 fixed routes on Sundays.

Many of the CCRTA's fixed, or regular, routes have been running at lower capacity due to COVID-19, with far fewer riders choosing the bus as transportation. CCRTA's current average daily ridership is almost 64% less than it was in 2015, the report stated, and operator shortages have prevented restoration of service, leading to less frequent buses, inconvenient transfers and longer wait times for riders.

The agency is also facing rising costs to operate the fleet amidst a decrease in fare revenue. CCRTA has worked to keep fares amongst the lowest in the U.S. with base fare at 75 cents, reduced route fare at 25 cents for students, seniors and people with disabilities, Premium and B-Line fares of $1.25, and day fares for $1.75. The agency now allows customers to buy online bus passes, at H-E-B or human services agencies. The GoPass mobile app allows them to pay by phone and receive real-time updates on changes to regular routes.

As CCRTA works toward increasing its staff to improve hours of service and reduce wait times, the new stations are a way for the agency to prioritize the safety, security and accessibility of riders while optimizing placements of bus stops based on the 5-year Capital Investment Plan, which includes budget line items for both ADA bus stop improvements and shelter and amenity improvements. A total of $500,000 is allocated annually for ADA amenities through 2027, as well as $4.35 million through 2027 for overall shelter and amenity improvements, according to the plan.

CCRTA looks at both changes in population density and employment density to help paint a picture of composite transit demand, with the highest transit demand in 2045 projected to be downtown Corpus Christi, central and southeast sections of the central city, the Bay Area near South Alameda Street west of Airline Road, and areas of the Southside between Holly Road and South Padre Island Drive and near Everhart Road and Staples Street.

The agency expects a new ridership market to develop in southeast areas of the city, with new routes serving the vicinity of the new Del Mar College Oso Creek Campus on Yorktown Boulevard and Rodd Field Road, the site of a new enhanced bus stop designed to function as a transfer station or super-stop to support better operations for proposed routes.

CCRTA is working on streamlining transfer stations to improve fixed transportation routes and provide more covered seating and waiting areas for customers.

Currently, CCRTA offers four transfer stations in Corpus Christi and Robstown: the Staples Street Station, Southside Station, the Port Ayers Station and the Robstown transfer station and park-and-ride. Although these hubs provide covered seating and waiting areas to serve a higher volume of customers, the Port Ayers station lacks off-street facilities and accessibility for ADA riders, and pedestrian access to the facility is hindered by high traffic volumes and multiple vehicle turn lanes. Once construction is complete, the station at Port Ayers will be replaced by a 10-bay station.

Implementing multimodal forms of transportation that can be built into the urban landscape, including bike infrastructure and additional ADA features and paratransit services through the B-Line, is also on the agency's horizon.

Survey responses gathered through Phase 1 Outreach of the Fleet Forward project helped determine the demand for new bus shelters, improvements in ride frequency and expanded services and fare options, while the results of surveys from Phase 2 Outreach were presented in recommendations to obtain comments and suggestions from the community and draft final recommendations.
