Travel magazines are great resources for inspiration and information. Inciteful articles go beyond the things to do in a destination and explore why you should visit in the first place. Hotel reviews, travel gear roundups, exploration of new trends, and interviews with interesting people in the travel industry keep you entertained through dozens of glossy pages.

Some travel magazines cover the globe, offering a chance to see exotic destinations in far-off lands. Other magazines stick closer to home, covering only regions or states. And then, special interest magazines cover topics like travel gear, outdoor recreation, and unique places to visit.

But when was the last time you picked up a travel magazine?

Browse through this list of travel magazines worthy of a subscription. Read the details of the magazine’s coverage, digital vs. print editions, and their publication frequency. And keep in mind – these make excellent gifts as well.

What about city magazines?

City magazines can offer additional insight into a destination, but not always. The magazines also include local news, shopping guides for home décor, and seasonal things to do around town. I recommend checking out city magazines when you travel but don’t get a subscription unless you visit that destination several times yearly.

A relative newcomer to the travel magazine market, Afar began publishing six issues each year in 2009. The magazine publishes immersive stories that go deep into the culture and history of travel destinations around the world. Each issue also features columns about travel gear, food, and profiles of interesting people in the industry.

Founded in New York City in 1909, Condé Nast is a vast media company with nearly a dozen magazine publications. Condé Nast Traveler is a luxury travel magazine published eight times yearly, featuring destination guides, hotel and resort reviews, and essays. Columns explore travel trends, the hottest new restaurants and hotels, and inside info on prices worldwide.

First published in 1978, Food & Wine is a lifestyle magazine featuring articles about cooking and entertaining at home. But the magazine also features restaurant reviews, interviews with celebrity chefs, and new culinary trends to try worldwide. The magazine is published monthly with seasonal themes and travel inspiration in every issue.

It was a gut punch when National Geographic Traveler was shuttered in 2019. Published for twenty-five years, the travel-themed magazine was rolled into the flagship National Geographic . The broad-topic parent magazine now features one or two travel features in their monthly issues and a vast trove of information with a digital subscription.

Published in New York City since 1937, Travel + Leisure is one of the top travel magazines in the world. The monthly publication features articles highlighting destinations worldwide, columns to help you save money while traveling, and reviews of hotels and restaurants. It’s one of the most inspiring magazines and the one subscription I recommend everyone order.

Wanderlust is the United Kingdom’s top travel magazine, published in London since 1993. The magazine focuses on travel destinations throughout the UK and Europe with destination guides, essays, interviews, and reviews. The bi-monthly publication features a whopping 200+ pages that will almost certainly keep you reading until the next issue arrives. A subscription also grants access to their vast digital archives.

Regional Travel Magazines

Regional travel magazines broaden their topics beyond just travel to also include home décor and living. But these magazines are also an excellent resource for finding off-the-beaten-path destinations or learning about a new region of the country to explore.

Based in Roanoke, Virginia, BlueRidge Country is a lifestyle and travel magazine focused on the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. The monthly issues feature a section on upcoming festivals and events that are perfect for weekend getaways. You’ll also find destination articles, hotel and restaurant reviews, and exciting things to do in the great outdoors in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

National Park Week 2024

Learn about the annual celebration of the National Park System and read my travel guides to national park units across the country.

With a subscription to Caribbean Living , you’ll “travel beyond the beach” with an inside look at the culture of the Caribbean islands. Issues are only published four times each year, but the publications are packed with intriguing travel stories, unique places to visit, and tips on how to make the most of your tropical getaway.

Life was turbulent for Coastal Living after Meredith purchased Time, Inc. in 2018. After a year stuck exclusively on newsstands, the magazine was again made available for subscriptions. The four issues published annually are packed with destination guides, travel tips, and reviews to make the most of your coastal getaway.

Published six times yearly, Coastal Virginia covers the region around Virginia Beach and the Eastern Shore. The publication includes lists of local events and festivals, travel guides to popular coastal destinations, and interviews with the local business owners who keep the travel industry thriving in coastal Virginia.

When Cowboys & Indians began publishing in 1992, its editors aimed to make it “the premier magazine of the West.” And with 16 issues each year, you’ll have plenty to read about the not-so-wild west. Based in Des Moines, Iowa, Midwest Living has been published four times yearly since 1986. The issues explore the vast region with travel guides, interviews, and reviews of places to visit. Issues include lifestyle topics like home décor and recipes, but you’ll still find plenty of travel topics to inspire your next Midwest adventure.

Based in Waynesville, North Carolina at the footsteps of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Smoky Mountain Living publishes stories covering the southern Appalachian Mountains. The stories include local arts and crafts, culture, music, and travel. It’s an excellent magazine for more than just the national park – it’s every small mountain town and hidden cove you never knew you wanted to visit.

The first issue of Sunset was published in 1898 – no kidding. Initially published by the Southern Pacific Railroad, today the lifestyle magazine covers the American West with topics on home life, cooking, gardening, and travel. Although it’s a broad-ranged magazine, the travel articles are inspirational.

Published since 1935, Yankee celebrates the culture of the New England states. Six issues each year feature stories about local traditions, festivals and events, lifestyle, and reviews of up-and-coming boutique hotels and restaurants.

State Travel Magazines

Narrowing the focus, state travel magazines focus on lifestyle and travel topics within their borders. If you visit a particular state every year, a subscription to one of these magazines could be invaluable for inspiring you to visit new destinations.

Published since 1935, Alaska is more than just a magazine to promote travel across the northernmost state – it’s also a journal of the Alaskan way of life. The magazine is published ten times yearly and features destination guides, seasonal activities, and outdoor adventures across the state. The magazine also featured excellent information about hunting, national parks, and how to travel across the state.

In 1921, the Arizona Department of Transportation began publishing a 10-page pamphlet to promote the highways across the state. Today, Arizona Highways is a monthly magazine published in Phoenix. Each issue includes road trip possibilities, travel guides, and stories about the state’s history and culture.

Published six times yearly, Louisiana Life includes roundups of upcoming events and festivals, travel guides, and an inside look at the state’s culture.

The “Land of 10,000 Lakes” is brought to life with Minnesota Monthly , which is now ironically only published six times annually . The travel and lifestyle magazine features articles on destinations to visit, events you must attend, and things to do across the state and over the water.

New Hampshire Magazine publishes 10 issues each year packed with information about the state’s tourist destinations, seasonal guides to explore autumn colors and spring flowers, and reviews of local restaurants.

New Jersey Monthly publishes an issue every month of the year filled with lifestyle tips, destination guides, and things to do across the state to the Jersey Shore.

Launched in 1923, New Mexico Magazine was the first magazine to focus on travel within a single state. With 11 issues published annually by the New Mexico Tourism Department in Santa Fe, the magazine features articles on the state’s culture, history, outdoor recreation, and destinations.

Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the country, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do. And with 12 issues of Rhode Island Monthly published each year, you can learn all about it. Published since 1974 by the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Highways is a monthly magazine that features destination guides, road trip itineraries, and seasonal inspiration for travel across the state. Special Interest Magazines

Instead of travel guides or restaurant reviews or business owner interviews, the special interest magazine focuses on specific things to do while home or traveling. You’ll find stories about outdoor recreation, exploring national park units, and how to travel in an RV in the pages of these magazines.

Adventure Cyclist Magazine has been published since 1975 by the Adventure Cycling Association . The Missoula, Montana-based association is an excellent resource for adventurous bicycle trails, gear reviews, and technical guides. Their magazine reflects this mission with 9 issues published annually packed with useful information. Membership in the association includes a subscription to the magazine and vice versa.

Published 4 times annually, American Road is the definitive magazine of the road tripper. The issues are filled with road trip travelogues, itineraries, roadside attractions, and reviews of restaurants and hotels you’ll find along the way.

Backcountry is the only magazine dedicated to outdoor recreation far from the paved highways. Published six times yearly, the magazine features gear reviews, backcountry tips, and destination guides worldwide. It’s an excellent resource for discovering backcountry adventures, how to get there, and where to stay.

Blue Ridge Motorcycling is published 4 times annually by the same folks behind Smoky Mountain Living . The magazine features scenic and thrilling motorcycle routes throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Southern Appalachians. Issues also feature motorcycle gear reviews and travel guides perfect for two-wheel adventures.

Published in Charleston, South Carolina, Garden & Gun is a regional magazine focusing on the American South. It’s not entirely a travel magazine with a wide range of topics from household décor to outdoor adventure. But the magazine regularly publishes fantastic articles about destinations you need to visit.

Lighthouse Digest is an interesting magazine subscription, especially for lovers of lighthouses. Published bi-monthly, the magazine features the history of the lighthouses, stories of previous keepers and their families, and travel guides on how to visit them. It’s a great resource for festivals and events to help you plan a weekend getaway to a lighthouse.

National Parks Magazine is the official magazine published by the National Parks Conservation Association. Published 4 times annually, the issues are filled with conservation stories and ways people can help protect the parks. But it also features excellent travel guides on things to do in the parks and sustainable ways to visit.

Published since 1977, Outside is a magazine about everything to do outside. The magazine is published bi-monthly. Each issue is stuffed with outdoor adventure gear reviews, technical articles, interviews of outdoor enthusiasts, and travel guides to amazing outdoor adventure destinations.

RoadRUNNER is a relative newcomer to the travel magazine domain, published for the first time in 2001. Based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the magazine covers all topics related to motorcycle touring and traveling with one headlight. Published bi-monthly, issues feature gear reviews, travel guides, and thrilling routes to explore on two wheels.

RV Magazine is the premier magazine for recreational vehicle owners. Articles on tips, vehicle reviews, and new gear are published monthly. Print, digital, and combination subscriptions are offered to get the best of everything they offer.

There are a number of ways to find new places to visit or to be inspired by the stories and experiences from others, but travel magazines are among the best options.

Thankfully, there are some very good travel magazines that are perfect for feeding your hunger for travel-related content and inspiration. Here, we’ll showcase the best travel magazines you should be following. Some of them have moved to digital-only publications, but the majority of them are still available in a printed magazine if that’s what you prefer (if they’re currently digital-only, that will be specified below).

Travel + Leisure has been in print since 1937, and under the Travel + Leisure name since 1971. It’s another travel industry leader that should be on every avid traveler’s reading list. The “World’s Best” awards issue is an annual highlight.

Condé Nast Traveler

Outside Magazine

For 35 years OUTSIDE magazine has been the intelligent person’s guide to the always exhilarating world outside. Award-winning writers, great stories of adventure, tips on the latest gear, where & when to go for active travelers.

American Road

All of the publications listed above still produce a printed travel magazine. Of course, many publications have gone exclusively to digital versions because of the costs related to printing and shipping. Budget Travel

Budget Travel (now digital-only) helps savvy consumers get the most out of every day, every destination, and every dollar. This used to be a popular print-based magazine (and one of my personal favorites), but now the content is only available digitally. You’ll find details about locations all around the world, so it’s a great overall option.

If you enjoy beaches and island travel, this award-winning and spectacularly visual travel magazine is a highlight that you won’t want to miss. ISLANDS (now digital-only) focuses on places we all dream about: islands around the world.

Wander is a digital-only travel magazine with a unique focus on wellness. If you’re interested in wellness tourism, this is the best resource for you.

Pathfinders Travel

Pathfinders Travel (digital-only) is the leading leisure travel publication for the Black travel enthusiast. Its affluent, educated and sophisticated readers have a thirst for information on family, romantic, and weekend destinations.

These Are the Top Travel Trends of 2024, According to American Express Travel

What are people really traveling for in 2024?

Demand for premium travel continues at a torrid pace in 2024. Not only is that being reflected in the first few months of the year, but also in the newly released trend report by  American Express (Amex) Travel . The study explored travel behaviors and trip planning from participants living in seven countries: Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The majority of respondents are planning major milestone-like trips, even if there isn’t necessarily an occasion to celebrate. And 84 percent of people surveyed plan to spend more or the same amount of money on travel in 2024 compared to last year. That includes destinations like  Antarctica  and the  Galapagos Islands . (Travel agents and advisors are making a resurgence as well, with over 50 percent of people looking to leverage a travel agent or trusted advisor to book, like  T+L’s A-List .)

“The report shows that demand for travel is continuing, and that people are building itineraries to create memories—being intentional about the places they are going, and the things they are doing when they get there,” Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, told Travel + Leisure .

Meanwhile, if 2023 was the year of “gig-tripping” (and the Taylor Swift effect), then 2024 is the year of long-distance travel for sporting events. Amex’s survey showed that 67 percent of millennial and Gen Z respondents are interested in traveling for sports in 2024. Paris, Miami, and New York City are the top three cities for sports travel, according to Amex. (Paris is hosting the  Olympic Games this year, Miami is hosting Formula 1, and New York City has the U.S. Open Tennis.)

In addition, solo travel will be a prominent theme in 2024, with 76 percent of millennials and Gen Z (compared to 69 percent of all respondents) saying they plan to take a solo trip this year, with a majority centered around self-love and treating themselves. “It is really interesting to see how many people are embracing solo travel,” said Hendley. “We’re seeing changes with younger travelers in particular."

Finally, Amex says that 2024 will be a notable year for spontaneous trips or what they’re calling “on-a-whim travel.” Nearly 80 percent of travelers say they plan to take a spur-of-the-moment trip, while 44 percent of respondents even expressed a preference for a spontaneous trip instead of having all the details planned. In fact, there are entire companies (like  Pack Up & Go  and  Competitours ) that offer complete itineraries where none of the details are provided in advance.

For something a bit less extreme, Henley recommended leaving unplanned time on existing trips to experience local culture and activities. “I just took an incredible trip to Thailand and relied on local experts and tour guides to show me the ‘real’ sites. I would have missed out on these local experiences – and so much incredible food – if I hadn’t left room in my itinerary to be impulsive and truly explore,” she said.

Ask any pet parent, and they’ll tell you the same thing: Traveling with dogs is complicated.

Taking a road trip is one option, but driving can add hours or even days to the journey. And flying, while faster, presents its own set of challenges.

When it comes to pets who aren’t service animals, most commercial airlines only allow small dogs—typically, those weighing up to 20 pounds—to accompany their human owners in the aircraft’s cabin. And, even then, these companies require owners to keep their pup in a pet carrier that must be stowed under the seat in front of them for the entire flight. Larger dogs are relegated to the cargo hold beneath the plane—a terrifying and potentially dangerous experience.

Now, a new “ dog-first” airline aims to relieve all that stress. Bark Air , an airline created by the pet company Bark , took its inaugural flight on Thursday, transporting a sold-out plane full of pups and their human companions from New York to Los Angeles.

“Right now, at an altitude of 30,000 feet, there is a flight filled with dogs,” the company wrote on Instagram . “Unlike any flight before it, these dogs are not merely an afterthought, nor are they treated as cargo or a burden to the crew and fellow travelers. Here, dogs are the foremost priority.”

To deliver its “white paw” service, the company is partnering with Talon Air , a private jet charter company that flies Gulfstream G500 jets.

Before takeoff, dogs can snack on treats and wear noise-canceling earmuffs and calming jackets to ensure they have a stress-free flight. Once in the air, flight attendants serve dogs their beverage of choice to help with any ear discomfort as the plane ascends and descends. Pups can choose whether to socialize with other dogs or stick close to their human.

“We think dogs should be right next to you on the seat, getting the same or—in our case—even better treatment and experiences than people do,” Dave Stangle, Bark’s vice president of brand marketing, tells the Points Guy ’s Harriet Baskas.

The flights aren’t cheap: It costs $6,000 for a dog and its human to book a one-way flight from New York to Los Angeles, or $8,000 for a ticket from New York to London.

The company’s executives acknowledged that the prices are “cost-prohibitive for most families,” but said they expect the flights to get cheaper as demand increases, CBS News ’ Megan Cerullo reports.

“Televisions, telephones, VCRs and DVD players, to automobiles, train and boat travel, and, yes, even human air travel—all of these started with very high prices until demand was proven and the costs could be brought lower by serving the masses,” wrote Matt Meeker, Bark’s chief executive officer and co-founder, in a May letter quoted by CBS News.

United States airlines transported 188,223 animals in 2022, the most recent year with available data from the Department of Transportation . Of those, seven animals died, one was injured and one was lost, resulting in an incident rate of 0.48 per 10,000. That’s similar to the prepandemic rate of 0.47 incidents per 10,000 animals in 2019, when U.S. airlines transported 404,556 animals.

Though the overall rate is low, airline incidents involving pets often make headlines . Even when flights go smoothly, many dogs experience discomfort and anxiety while flying in the cargo hold. To illustrate this point, Meeker volunteered to ride inside a crate in the cargo hold of a plane on a nearly four-hour flight from south Florida to New York City.

“I don’t know why any person would ever choose to do this to their dog,” Meeker said in a video posted on Instagram . “It’s an absolute horror show back here. There has to be a better way.”

Bark is not the first company to offer dog-friendly flights. K9 Jets , which launched in 2022 , offers pay-per-seat private jet service for dogs and their owners. The company flies to Dubai, Dublin, Florida, Frankfurt, Hawaii, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Milan, New Jersey and Paris. It can also accommodate cats, though it requires them to stay inside a carrier for the entire flight.

Some private jet companies, including NetJets and VistaJet, also cater to pets on flights. VistaJet , for example, serves “prime cuts of fresh meat and fish” upon request.

“I just don’t understand why the airlines don’t recognize the business opportunity,” Rusty Rueff, who has a French bulldog named Theo, told the New York Times ’ Christine Chung last year. “We’ll do anything for our pets, just like we’ll do anything for our children.”

$200 Hotel Credit: Basic Card Members on U.S. Consumer Platinum Card Account are eligible to receive up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year when they or Additional Platinum Card Members use their Cards to pay for eligible prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection bookings made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com, the Amex® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card) or when Companion Platinum Card Members on such Platinum Card Accounts pay for eligible prepaid bookings for The Hotel Collection made through American Express Travel (meaning through amextravel.com, the Amex® App, or by calling the phone number on the back of your eligible Card). The transaction date may differ from the date you made the purchase if, for example, there is a delay in the merchant submitting the transaction to us or if the merchant uses another date as the transaction date. This means that in some cases your purchase may not earn the statement credit benefit for the benefit period in which you made the purchase. For example, if an eligible purchase is made on December 31st but the merchant processes the transaction such that it is identified to us as occurring on January 1st, then the statement credit available in the next calendar year will be applied. Statement credits may not be received or may be reversed if the booking is cancelled or modified. If the Card Account is canceled or past due, it may not qualify to receive a statement credit. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as eligible, you will not receive the statement credits. 5X Membership Rewards Points for Business Platinum Card:  You will get one point for each dollar charged for an eligible purchase on your Business Platinum Card ®  from American Express. Pay with Points:  To use Pay with Points, you must charge your eligible purchase through American Express Travel to a Membership Rewards ®  program-enrolled American Express ®  Card. Points will be debited from your Membership Rewards account, and credit for corresponding dollar amount will be issued to the American Express Card account used. How Affordable Is Japan for U.S. Travelers Right Now, Really?

From hotel upgrades to first-class bullet train rides and multicourse meals, now is the time for u.s. travelers to splurge in japan, while the yen is the weakest it has been in more than three decades..

Japan is on sale, and there is no better time to visit to take advantage of the value offered than now. The yen is the weakest it has been in 34 years; it’s weakened by about 50 percent against the U.S. dollar since the pre-pandemic era. Not surprisingly, tourism is booming. In March 2024, more than 3 million inbound tourists arrived in Japan, breaking a record.

As of press time, one U.S. dollar is equivalent to about 156 Japanese yen; five years ago, it was hovering closer to 100 Japanese yen. (It’s worth noting that currency exchange rates fluctuate frequently, so all conversions in this story were accurate as of the publication date but may be different at the time of reading.) Why is the yen so weak? Among the reasons is that “the interest-rate difference between cash money in Japan [zero percent] and the U.S. [around 5 percent with the best mutual funds or deposits] is … causing the yen to trade low,” explains Frederick Gundlach, a U.S. CPA and tax preparer currently in Narita, Japan.

So, how can you make the most of your travels in Japan? Now is the time to upgrade your hotel room, travel on the first-class green car on the country’s famed bullet train, and splurge on expensive meals. For instance, if you splash out for an elaborate sushi dinner with a 30,000-yen price tag, that is the equivalent of just under $200. In the past, the same $200 would have been worth only about 20,000 yen.

Shop till you drop

The deals are so good that travelers are purchasing suitcases in Japan to carry back all of their shopping, including knives, clothing, and accessories from fashion labels such as Issey Miyake and Yohji Yamamoto. Many larger department stores like Isetan and Takashimaya and electronics shops like Bic Camera are duty-free, which means you can shop without taxes while traveling around Japan, not just at the airport before your return flight. Be sure to bring your passport with you, and look for the white-and-red “Japan. Tax-free shop” signs. Additionally, many department stores or electronics shops will give foreign passport holders a discount card at the information desk, usually for about 5 percent off, but sometimes more. After all of your shopping is completed, take your receipts to the duty-free counter in the department store and get the tax back: up to 10 percent, depending on what you are purchasing.

Look for the red tax-free shop signs to shop duty-free while out and about in Japan.

Hotel rates

Hotel rates for Japanese-owned hotels have not fluctuated much recently—and that’s a good thing. The Tokyo Station Hotel and Imperial Hotel Tokyo currently are in the 60,000 to 80,000 yen per night ($380 to $500) range, which is comparable to their rates before the yen weakened considerably, but the dollar equivalent is, of course, lower. But some other properties, namely international hotel brands, have tripled their rates as tourism demand has increased at record rates. The Aman Tokyo , for instance, is currently about 300,000 yen ($1,900) per night. In 2018, it cost about 110,000 yen.

For more budget-oriented travelers, however, Japan is a total bargain right now. Basic business hotels with small rooms and private bathrooms that are conveniently near major train stations start at about 7,500 yen per night, which is less than $50.

Train upgrades

A round-trip shinkansen bullet train to Kyoto from Tokyo is currently 26,000 yen ($165) or 38,000 yen ($240) for the first-class green car. Note that the price for the JR rail pass has recently increased , but it still poses a good value depending on how far one travels. The pass allows unlimited travel on Japan Rail trains, including shinkansen bullet trains. The basic seven-day JR Pass is 50,000 yen ($320); formerly it was 30,000 yen. The seven-day Green Car Pass is 70,000 yen ($445)—not a bad deal for a week of first-class bullet train rides.

When a bowl of ramen will only set you back about $6.50, it’s hard to resist.

Meals at a minimum

Breakfast at a kissaten coffee shop with coffee, toast, and a boiled egg is about one coin or 500 yen ($3). A bowl of ramen goes for about 1,000 yen ($6.50). Add potstickers and an ice-cold beer, and the bill will be 2,000 yen ($13). Gundlach reminds travelers that “there is no tipping in Japan.”

Attractions and skiing

Tickets for the contemporary Mori Art Museum or the fine arts institute the Nezu Museum (both located in Tokyo) are 1,600 yen ($10). Entrance into the interactive digital art experience teamLab Borderless at the new Azabudai Hills urban village is 3,800 yen ($24), to get a sense of how much it will cost to soak up some culture in Japan.

For skiers and snowboarders, the renowned Niseko Village ski resort on the northern island of Hokkaido sells daily ski passes starting at 9,500 yen, a bargain at only $60. At Hakuba Valley in Nagano, the daily passes start at 8,500 yen ($55). Note that food at ski resorts is pricier than in the city centers, as are hotel rooms. But for some of the best powder in the world, it is still a bargain compared to, say, ski resorts in the United States that charge upwards of $100 and $200 for a day pass.

How long will the weak yen last?

Gundlach said he can’t forecast how long the yen will remain weak. But even if you aren’t traveling to Japan in the immediate future, you can still head to a foreign exchange office or a bank that exchanges currencies to buy some yen now; later, you can use it for on-the-ground expenses. With the weak yen, U.S. visitors can extend their stay for a few extra days, travel further, and explore more of the country. So, there’s no better time to visit Japan than the present.

The new Tri-Rail express trains will be a one-seat ride, not requiring passengers to disembark to connect to shuttle trains that go in and out of MiamiCentral Station.

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) introduced a new Tri-Rail express train service starting July 1.

The addition will offer passengers a seamless one-seat ride to and from Downtown Miami , significantly reducing travel time between the West Palm Beach and MiamiCentral stations.

The New Miami Express Train

The express train will depart from the West Palm Beach Station at 6:30 a.m., with strategically limited stops at the Boca Raton Station, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport Station at Dania Beach, and the Metrorail Transfer Station, before arriving at MiamiCentral Station at 8:05 a.m.

In the evening, the return express train will depart MiamiCentral at 5:35 p.m., providing commuters with a convenient and expedited journey home.

"We are thrilled to unveil this new enhancement to our train service,” said Dave Dech, executive director. “By offering a one-seat ride and reducing travel time, we aim to provide an enhanced commuting experience for our passengers and attract new riders to Tri-Rail."

The new express trains will be a one-seat ride, not requiring passengers to disembark to connect to shuttle trains that go in and out of MiamiCentral Station. The express train’s schedule also cuts the time to get between West Palm Beach and Miami by more than 30 minutes.

Tri-Rail Maintaining Business as Usual

Tri-Rail remains committed to maintaining its current schedule, with 26 trains operating on weekdays and 23 trains on weekends for MiamiCentral, ensuring continued connectivity with Downtown Miami, with all non-express trains still transferring at the Metrorail Transfer Station.

Passengers traveling to and from Miami Airport Station will also benefit from a later departure time, accommodating increased airport traffic and catering to the needs of airport employees working late shifts.

San Diego's CH Projects gets another nod this year from Esquire magazine. This time it's for a bar.

J ust a month after The Lafayette Hotel was named best new hotel of the year by Esquire , yet another San Diego venue has now made the magazine's best bars list — Part Time Lover in North Park.

Both the hotel and bar are part of the ever expanding portfolio of hospitality venues developed by San Diego-based CH Projects.

Part Time Lover, a Japanese-inspired listening bar that opened in 2022, is housed where Bar Pink, a dive bar and live music venue, operated for years but wasn't able to survive the pandemic. CH Projects co-founder Arsalun Tafazoli said at the time he had never envisioned creating a music-focused business, but the project appealed to him because "music is such a huge part of what we do. Our founding ethos is to incorporate every medium of art, (including) music."

Esquire Culture and Lifestyle Director Kevin Sintumuang noted as much in explaining the magazine's thinking behind the list of 42 best bars in the U.S.

"Bars have always been that third place, the spot where you hang outside work and home. But as we've discovered crisscrossing the country over the past twelve months to visit the new bars, they're doing that in more nuanced and varied ways than they have in a long time," Sintumuang said. "It's not just about the drinks. Then again, it's never just about the drinks."

Sintumuang was among a team of Esquire contributors who compiled the list.

This is what he had to say specifically about Part Time Lover:

"The vibes are mid-century living room yet more luxe. (Think wood, velvet, and checkered floors.) Like the rest of Consortium Holding's bars, as well as the Lafayette ( Esquire's Hotel of the Year 2024 ), (Part Time Lover) is a richly detailed space where the interior design is as mesmerizing as the music. You'll hear everything from acid jazz to deep house to tropicalia, and you'll find a drink to match your mood—whether it's an old-fashioned riff or a highball. Be sure to visit the record store in the back."

Part Time Lover is one of seven California bars that made this year's list of 42 venues across the U.S.

This is not the first time a CH Projects bar has been singled out by Esquire. In fact, it's a fairly regular occurrence. Its Noble Experiment made the 2013 list; Raised by Wolves was selected in 2019; J & Tony's Discount Cured Meats and Negroni Warehouse was on the 2021 list; and Youngblood a year later.

‘1000-Lb. Sisters’ Star Tammy Slaton Steps Out With ‘Spiritual Sisters’ as Fans Express Concern

1000-Lb. Sisters star Tammy Slaton keeps gushing about her “magic” new friends — but not everybody is caught under their spell. 

Slaton, 37, posted a video via Instagram on Monday, June 3, showing herself and her friends Haley Michelle and Paola Román hanging out in a park dressed in nearly all black.

She captioned the clip: “Three is the magic number 🖤✨ #magic #spiritualsisters”

It was the first appearance of Michelle — who calls herself the Paranormal Princess — and Román on Slaton’s social media in nearly a month. Based on the comments, not everybody was thrilled about her return.

“🤦🏻‍♀️ damn I enjoyed the last month without seeing the clout chasers,” the top comment on the post reads. “Such a weird vibe.”

Another commented, “We don’t like them, Tammy girl.”

Michelle started becoming a near constant presence on Slaton’s social media earlier this year, seemingly out of nowhere. Some have accused her of using Slaton for fame.

In April, the pair and Román went on a “girls trip,” which they posted about multiple times . 

“Spiritual Sisters , our powerful connection we don’t have to explain anything to anyone,” Michelle captioned an April 24 Instagram photo of her and Slaton. “You are my Best Friend 💙”

On the same trip, Michelle posted a picture of her and Slaton with their feet dangling in a pool, captioned: “Proud of you 💙”

For comparison’s sake, Slaton’s sister and costar Amy Slaton hasn’t been pictured with her sibling on Instagram since January 2023 — when the duo spent time with Michelle. 

As fans of Slaton’s began questioning Michelle’s motives and whether or not the pair might be dating  — especially after Slaton said she was “like a lesbian” following the death of her husband, Caleb Willingham , in June 2023 — Slaton was eventually motivated to clear the air. 

In an April 29 TikTok video , Slaton, Michelle and Román danced along to Marshmello and Anne-Marie’s song “Friends” as text on the screen spelled out the lyrics: “F-R-I-E-N-D-S / We’re just friends / So don’t go look at me with that look in your eye.”

Summer Fun in Racine: 2024 Edition

What a difference two years makes. There have been many changes that have come to Racine ever since the 2022 Shepherd Express edition of “Summertime in Racine.” Whether you are planning a day trip, a weekend away, or a “staycation,” there’s no better place  to spend some time with friends and family in summer than in Racine, Wisconsin

To begin, there’s a lot of community development happening. According to Downtown Racine Corporation Director Kelly Kruse, Sixth Street is being redesigned into the “Racine Artisan District” featuring businesses such as a forthcoming vintage bookstore, a new art gallery, and two cocktail lounges. In addition, Festival Hall and Memorial Hall are getting makeovers thanks to the new local management company, 5kevents. In March, the company put out a call to local garden clubs to enhance the beauty and attraction of the surrounding park in hopes to foster a sense of community. The refurbishing is due to be completed in time for the annual Salmon a Rama beginning July 13, which draws hundreds of competitive fishermen from throughout the Midwest

The arrival of these new developments complements the new Monument Square events that hope to bring people together and promote the town’s businesses. The Flagstaff Downtown Business Alliance launched “Saturday on the Square” on May 25 and will continue every Saturday until August 31. This free film screening event will be accompanied by live music and activities. If families are looking for a child friendly, less crowded summer alternative to the seasonal Saturday Sounds on the Square and Friday Music on the Monument, this is sure to be a fun night out. The aforementioned summer events will also be returning with a fashion show on June 29.  In addition to these other Racine traditions, the third annual Harbor Market returned on May 30 with recurring events on the first and third Thursdays of the summer months through August.

Next to perhaps Salmon A Rama, the most popular event in Racine is the Annual Fourth of July Parade with 80,000-100,000 people in attendance each year. The parade not only displays the spirit of America, but also brings together the businesses and organizations that make Racine diverse. It is recommended guests who wish to park close reserve a spot as early as 5 a.m. as the streets fully close at 8 a.m. for the 8:30 pre parade followed by the official parade starting at 9 a.m., but there is always room along the route. In addition to new events, Monument Square is also home to some new and revived businesses that are looking to become essential summer destinations. An art deco structure encompassing 80 rooms, the Hotel Verdant opened in August of 2023 with a local art interior décor and an Italian Restaurant, Marguerite. So far in its eight months of existence, the most popular feature of the hotel is the rooftop bar, Eave, which overlooks the entire city. Here, guests can sip drinks and sample unique appetizers such as devilled eggs with avocado. Eave is the perfect late afternoon destination after a day of fun at the beach or anywhere in downtown Racine.

Across the street from Monument Square is the Racine Art Museum (RAM). For the artist in the family, the museum has the largest collection of contemporary crafts in the United States and receives 60,000 visitors per year. This summer, they are offering exhibitions that demonstrate the flexibility of artists and examine the designs of post war glass art. One particular highlight is “The Frances and Michael Higgins Collection” which displays the unique diverse work of jewelry, bowls and other trinkets from the married artist couple. The Higgins introduced glass fusing, the practice of two pieces of glass being fused together through heat, to post war society. Another highlighted featured artist is Carol Eckert, whose detailed, constructed sketches of the  “ Kingdom of Birds” is on display alongside the piece itself, a triptych of tropical birds constructed from dyed cotton, wire, and glass beads. Also exhibited is Cynthia Topps who demonstrates a diverse use of polymer clay to make necklaces, as seen with 1997’s  Anemone   and a slice of life portrait with 2007’s  Story Time.  These exhibitions will be up through the summer months. The other major Racine museum, the Racine Heritage Museum, is also exploring artistic mediums but with an architectural bent. The newest exhibit, “Wright before the Lloyd: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Search for Himself,” explores the history of the architect and his mentor, Cecil Sherman Corwin. This exhibition is sure to be an insightful look at the nature of collaboration and influence. The museum also touches on many different eras of the city; visitors can learn about the Racine Belles, an all-women World War II era baseball team in the Sports hall of Fame or take a peek at “Malty,” a mummy brought to Racine in 1902 by William Horlick Jr, son of William Horlick, the founder of the Horlick food company. The museum offers walking tours on Saturdays during the summer which cover Racine’s immigration history, architecture and much more in a beautiful 90 minute walk along the lakefront. Roll Out the Events

A few blocks away on the lakefront, stands Festival Hall, Festival Park, and Memorial Hall. As mentioned in the introduction, 5kEvents has acquired management of these venues and intends to roll out the new summer phase with notable events at each location. Festival Hall will ring in the summer with a food Truck rally on June 14-15. Festival Park will be holding the annual LightHouse Run to benefit the Racine Family YMCA. The weeklong Salmon A Rama event from July 13-July 21 will mark the official debut of the new Festival Hall which is scheduled to feature fireworks, food trucks, vendors and fish boils. This will be followed on August 3 by the Racine River Fest at Festival Park which will feature a pancake breakfast and craft fair. These events are sure to please everyone from the outdoors fan to the artistic minded. 

Go north on Lake Michigan about a quarter mile and you’ll find North Beach which has summer traditions of its own: setting up the volleyball nets on the first day of summer, putting out deck chairs on the dunes, and during Friday nights and weekends, Beachside Oasis books a local band to play on its stage. North Beach is an incredible place that surprises anyone on their first visit and always has something new that makes people return each summer.

The popularity of the beach and its offerings seems to have also influenced the revival of surrounding restaurants as well. As of last year, the long dormant Chartroom reopened in September under new ownership and recently, the longtime venue George’s, just north of downtown, gained a new caretaker with the owner of Festival Hall’s Neighbor, Smok’d on the Water. Located right around the harbor, these two food and entertainment businesses are kindred spirits of being a hotspot for live performances, great food and beverages, and mainstays for summer gatherings. George’s, for one, has been one of the participating venues for the Thoughts for Food event since 1993 in addition to other shows such as Bonk! Poetry readings. Smok’d on the Water, meanwhile, hosts music performances Friday through Sunday during the summer along with hosting The Origins of Hip Hop showcase each August. 

Next to North Beach, the Racine Zoo may be the most popular ongoing outdoor attraction in the city. For the 2024 summer season, the zoo not only has new animals such as Changbai, an Amur Tiger, but is also rolling out new events for the summer months. For adults, there are charity social events such as Bears, Booze, and Bingo on June 20 and July 18’s Cigar Dinner. On the family side of events, there’s the Cardboard Boat Race on August 3 along with monthly animal days such as International Tiger Day on July 27 in which children can learn about the animal featured through games and hands on activities. The seminal Animal Crackers Concert series returns on July 10 and there will also be tribute shows to Abba and Aretha Franklin on June 26 and July 31, respectively. More to Enjoy

An energetic family could spend a couple of hours sunning at North Beach, have a great lunch in the harbor area, visit the zoo and art museum and have a lovely summer  dinner all in one day. But there’s more to enjoy as well!

In the dramatic field of arts, the Racine Theater Guild is bringing the romantic comedy  First Date . Running from July 19-July 28, this character driven tale explores two people, one who is new to the dating game and the other a veteran, as they navigate the world of courtship together. This is sure to be a crowd-pleasing favorite perfect for both long married couples and newly dating couples alike.  

The uptown area of Racine is coming into its own as well. Thanks to the popularity of artist Scott Terry’s Mahogany Gallery and the 16th street Gallery, the area has become a small hub where  businesses and restaurants are beginning to flourish. One of the major new expansions in Uptown has been the plant store Rooted. Since its opening in 2021, the store has teamed up with The Branch for Wednesday summer cookouts and recently, the revival kickoff of the business networking group, “Whatsup Racine.” With their bigger space, Rooted sells plants, offers gardening advice, and hosts craft nights in which they do such things as design terrariums and make macramé plant holders. With their two tortoises, Fern and Walter in tow, Rooted has also established a tattoo parlor and is also operating a record shop, having acquired the record collection of Jada Pffarr (after she retired from her position as the owner of LongShot Vinyl on Sixth Street). The variety of services and products in this friendly, artistic atmosphere is worth a visit for a summer day trip. Rooted is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to galleries and stores, Uptown has a number of beautiful, lush murals along the brick walls designed by local artists that are inspired by Racine’s local poets such as Kelsey Marie Harris or the late Aaron Lundquist. Along with a nice lunch at the Pakistani restaurant, Kebab and Grill or carry out at Dragon Pitt BBQ, Uptown makes for a nice two-hour summer trip. 

Racine is an industrial town, a boating destination, a local arts hub, and home to one of the best beaches on Lake Michigan. This summer feels as if new businesses are off to a great start; there are dozens of fun restaurants, several great museums, and the friendliest atmosphere you can imagine. See you this summer!

Geography [ edit ]

Khabarovsk Krai occupies a long swathe of Russia's Pacific coastline, a full 2000 kilometers of it, going as far south as Sakhalin and north to Magadan Oblast . At nearly 800.000 km², it's Russias fourth largest province. In the north, taiga and tundra prevail, deciduous forests in the south, and swampy forests in the central areas around Nikolaevsk-on-Amur . As a testament to its size there are more than 50 thousand lakes to fish in, more rivers and streams than you would care to count, and several mountain ranges intersect the region, including the northern reaches of the Sikhote-Alin mountains shared with Primorsky krai. The highest point is Mount Bery, towering nearly in fact, three quarters of the area is occupied by mountains and plateaus.

Biodiversity [ edit ]

The diversity of purely North animals like brown bear and sheer South representatives like Eastern softshell spiny turtle (Trionix) is backed by the legend that God would mix the rest of seeds and animals when somebody told him about missing spot on Earth.

One can encounter pine-tree and wild Far-Eastern grape which came definitely from the South. Its blue round berries with sour taste are cultivated in gardens to produce home wine.

Aboriginal culture within small enclaves across the krai are Nanai, Ulchi, Manchur, Orochi, Udege, Negidal, Nivkhi, Evenki and varies in each settlement.

Khabarovsk is a major transportation hub for the entire Russian Far East and will likely be any visitor's first stop by either the Trans-Siberian Railway or via Khabarovsk's international airport ( KHV  IATA ).

From China there are two entrance routes: one begins on the border with the Heihe - Blagoveshchensk crossing point, the other from Fuyuan town on Amur river. Another possible way is one from Sakhalin, where international ferry operates between Russian Korsakov and Japan's Wakkanai . A one-night bus trip along the federal highway Vladivostok-Khabarovsk is an option for a traveller, if the train carriage by some odd reason is not preferable.

Fishing and hunting in the wild are the major attractions for local villagers, town and city dwellers as well as trekking routes to taiga plains and mountains untouched by humans are favourite activities for all sorts of tourists. Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk mountain bike clubs are all at it. Taiga forest roads are always abuzz with mosquitos in summer and the best seasons for visiting are May and September when the air is not so stifling and the sun is just warm. Winter attracts regional skiers and snowboarders to the ski bases "Holdomi" and "Amut Snow Lake" near Komsomolsk and "Spartak" slopes near Khabarovsk.

Local food follows traditional Russian cuisine featured with salted bracken, mushrooms, Korean and Chinese and even European dishes served in theme restaurants of two big cities. Don't forget to taste pancakes with a spoonful of linden, wildflower, buckweat honey or a season caviar stuffing.

Stay safe [ edit ]

Snakes and bears are rare attackers in the wild, lest provoked. More dangerous are infectious ticks which are active most of all in spring. Use spray against ticks.

Khabarovsk is the hub for regional air travel with important flights to Russian destinations Anadyr , Irkutsk , Krasnoyarsk , Magadan , Moscow , Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky , Yakutsk , and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk , as well as international flights to Niigata , Japan and to Seoul , Korea . There are no direct flights to/from the US .

The next major stops to the east on the Trans-Siberian Railway are Ussuriysk and Vladivostok ; to the west, Birobidzhan .

There is a regular ferry from Vanino (the terminus of the Baikal-Amur Mainline ) to Kholmsk , Sakhalin .
