Je met 5 étoiles tellement le boitier est superbe, mais il est mal conçus pour l'installation des SSD. Certes ils sont derrière la carte mère, donc invisible, mais le systèmes pour les ranger est trop compliqué par rapport à la simplicité du boitier. Par contre j'aurais aimé que Be Quiet installe de base des Silent Wings 4 à la place des Pure Wings 3.

Le Be Quiet! Shadow Base 800 FX est un boitier PC au format moyen tour. Ce dernier met l'accent sur l'airflow . Cela peut sembler assez étrange, quand on sait que le constructeur a pour habitude de proposer des boitiers les plus silencieux possibles. Esthétiquement, le Shadow Base 800 FX est assez classique, proposant une façade façon maille , avec en plus ici, contrairement au MSI Gungir MPG 300R AirFlow, un filtre. Ce dernier permet de retenir la poussière.

Sur la face avant toujours, se trouvent deux colonnes de lumière RGB au centre, le constructeur a compris il y a quelque temps maintenant que les lumières RGB sur les boitiers n’étaient pas de trop. Au contraire, c’est très apprécié.

Le look du boitier n’est pas désagréable, bien loin de là. Cependant, ça reste du Be Quiet!, c’est donc un design assez sobre et sage . Disons que l’on est généralement plus impressionné par les performances d’airflow et de modularité que par le design chez Be Quiet!, c’est l’habitude du constructeur allemand.

Avec le boitier, on retrouve quatre ventilateurs Light Wings de 140 mm , les ventilateurs blancs RGB du fabricant, avec 4 broches, permettant un réglage personnalisé de la vitesse et de l’éclairage ARGB. C’est déjà un excellent point.

C’est un boitier au format moyen-tour, cependant, il est possible d’installer un ventirad jusqu’à 420 mm à l’avant , ou bien en façade. Sinon, on peut installer trois ventilateurs de 120 mm ou trois ventilateurs de 140 mm, comme c’est déjà le cas sur la face avant du boitier quand on le reçoit neuf. A l’arrière, on peut y mettre un ventilateur de 120 mm ou 140 mm .

Bien que le Shadow Base 800 FX ne suive pas la tendance récente en offrant la possibilité d’ajouter des ventilateurs latéraux, ce châssis présente des emplacements pour ventilateur sur la partie basse. Il suffit de retirer la rack de disque dur pour y installer des ventilateurs.

Le Be Quiet! Shadow Base 800 FX peut accueillir quatre SSD de 2,5 pouces ou deux disques durs mécaniques de 3,5 pouces. Le positionnement des disques est classique : derrière le plateau de la carte mère et/ou dans le rack à disques durs. J'ai été surpris de constater que ce boîtier pouvait accueillir des disques durs de 3,5 pouces derrière le plateau de la carte mère, surtout avec une feuille de mousse sur le panneau arrière. Mais cela pourrait atténuer le bruit des disques mécaniques, habile de la part du fabricant !

La connectique avant du boîtier est également très classique : on trouve un port USB 3.2 Type-C et deux ports USB Type-A 3.2 . Contrairement à son grand-frère, le Dark Base Pro 901, on ne retrouve pas quatre connecteurs USB-A, mais il faut dire que la plupart des cartes mères ne le permettent pas … C’est généralement un connecteur USB 3.0 et un connecteur USB-C en interne, pas plus.

Il y a également deux prises audio et un bouton de contrôle RGB à droite de l'interrupteur d'alimentation.

Enfin, sur le dessus du boitier, se trouve une plaque magnétique servant également de filtre, permettant de cacher les vis du watercooling , si vous en utilisez un, ou des ventilateurs simples si vous souhaitez tout de même en mettre. L'avantage, c'est qu'avec cette plaque magnétique, il est plus facile de la retirer que sur le Dark Base Pro 901.

Caractéristiques du Shadow Base 800 FX

Montage et fonctionnalités.

Le Be Quiet! Shadow Base 800 FX est un boîtier qui semble avoir été conçu avec une attention particulière aux détails , comme bien souvent chez le fabricant. C’est essentiel, pour bien ranger ses câbles et faire la configuration la plus belle possible. Il dispose d’un éclairage ARGB et d’un contrôleur inclus même. Ce qui lui permet d’offrir de multiples options d’illumination . On peut en modifier les couleurs, les modes d’éclairage, pour créer son propre boitier.

Ce que j’apprécie tout particulièrement ici, c’est que le fabricant fournit quatre ventilateurs Light Wings White de 140 mm , ce qui garantit un débit d'air élevé tout en maintenant un fonctionnement silencieux, et du rétro-éclairage bien évidemment. Car c’est très bien d’avoir des ventilateurs efficaces, mais ce qu’on veut, c’est qu’ils fassent de la lumière, maintenant que Be Quiet! s’y est mis.

Ces performances sont renforcées par la façade maillée du boîtier, optimisant la circulation de l'air. Le Shadow Base 800 FX est également conçu pour offrir suffisamment d'espace , même pour les composants les plus volumineux. Ainsi, aucun souci pour loger une RTX 4090 et peu importe la référence, ici, toutes les cartes graphiques logent !

Pour ceux qui cherchent à personnaliser davantage leur configuration, le boîtier intègre un hub PWM et ARGB , facilitant ainsi le branchement de ventilateurs supplémentaires. Je ne saurai que vous conseiller de mettre des Be Quiet! pour des raisons esthétiques. L'installation des disques durs et des SSD est simplifiée grâce à un système sans outil, ce qui est d’autant plus pratique. Il faut toutefois visser les SSD avec un tournevis, bien évidemment.

Ce que j’apprécie le plus dans ce boitier, c’est déjà la couleur, les boitiers blancs sont magnifiques car on a pendant très longtemps été habitués aux boitiers noirs. Un peu de changement de couleur ne fait pas de mal, et la fenêtre latérale sur le côté gauche, en verre trempé offre une vue imprenable sur l'intérieur de la tour, mettant en valeur tous vos composants, sous réserve bien évidemment d’avoir des composants élégants et un câble-management de qualité.

Ce boîtier est compatible avec tous les types de cartes mères grand public , allant de l'E-ATX à la Mini-ITX. Il est également équipé de plusieurs emplacements pour les ventilateurs, ainsi que de baies pour disques durs et SSD.

Assembler un PC avec un boitier comme celui-ci est tellement agréable et pratique, cela permet de monter les composants tranquillement, sans qu’ils ne soient serrés les uns aux autres et sans avoir à contorsionner ses doigts.

Le Shadow Base 800 FX est fidèle à la réputation de sa marque. Durant mes tests de performances de ventilation , mais également de nuisances sonores, le boitier est resté globalement très silencieux.

S’il est possible d’ajouter d’autres ventilateurs au niveau du bas du boitier, je ne l’ai pas fait pour le test. L’idée est de présenter les performances brutes du Shadow Base 800 FX, sans avoir modifié quoi que ça soit dans le boitier en termes de ventilation.

Les performances sont très bonnes , Be Quiet! qui est réputé pour le silence de ses boîtiers, propose ici un produit conforme à ce que l’on attend du constructeur. Le boîtier, en effet, ne dépasse pas les 56,5 dB avec les ventilateurs à pleine puissance.

Si l’on se retire un peu pour laisser un mètre de distance, on n’entend quasiment plus rien, le boîtier est silencieux. Et encore, ce n’est pas un Silent Base ! Je précise que les mesures ont été réalisées à 20 cm du boitier.

La configuration utilisée pour ce test est la suivante :

• Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Pro X
• Intel Core i9 13900K
• Be Quiet! Pure Loop 2 360 mm
• PNY GeForce RTX 4070

Les Silent Wings 4 peuvent monter jusqu’à 1900 tr/min et peuvent générer entre 31 dB et 46,5 dB, nous l’avions déjà vu dans de précédents tests. Tout dépend de leur vitesse de rotation. J’ai réglé cette dernière en mode automatique ici, afin de ne pas avoir à les paramétrer manuellement, le boîtier est donc plus ou moins silencieux selon l’activité que l’on effectue avec le PC.

Il est également important d’ajouter que les températures sont parfaitement maîtrisées. S’il est possible de mettre la carte graphique à la verticale , c’est une excellente idée pour les SSD M.2, diminuant leur température d’environ 6°C.

Note de la rédaction

Le Shadow Base 800 FX est un excellent boitier. Avec ses quatre ventilateurs de 140 mm fournis, ainsi que ses larges possibilités en termes de câble-management, c'est un vrai plaisir à utiliser et surtout, à monter. Tant sur le plan termique qu'en termes de nuisances sonores, il se montre excellent. Si ce n'est pas le boitier le plus abordable du marché certes, il est tout de même très bon. J'apprécie le fait que Be Quiet! passe enfin fièrement au RGB, avec douceur et discrètement certes, mais assurément.

Pour travailler en paix

C'est la première fois que j'investie dans une tour de qualité, le silence est réellement appréciable, vue le nombre d'heure passé a travailler dessus. Pour ouvrir le capot il suffit de presser un simple bouton. Facile a nettoyer. Finis les vis, facile, de qualité, jolie, rien a dire après un an d'utilisation toujours aussi silencieux. Travailler en paix ça fait du bien.

De la place !

Un boitier très bien conçu et très confortable. Je n'éprouve aucune gêne pour placer de nouveaux composants comme mes disques durs. L'ensemble reste très aéré.

Presque parfait :)

Oui presque.... le boitier est plus ou moins de la même veine, même qualité que ce qui est pour une référence en matière de boitier de qualité et silencieux : le silent base 601. Avec en plus la modularité, et le tout dans une très belle finition... mais ! Juste un point négatif, je ne lui enlève pas d'étoile pour ça parce que ce n'est pas rédhibitoire, il est fourni avec des ventilateurs corrects, mais sans plus, à savoir les silent wing 2. Au prix d'un tel boitier, on est en droit d'attendre plutôt des silent wing de génération 3, beaucoup plus silencieux, même à forte charge, et pour couronner ce tableau pas idyllique, la petite carte rhéobus installée dans le boitier est conçue pour des y brancher des ventilos 3 pins et non 4.... à part ce détail, car au final rien ne nous oblige à utiliser ce rhéobus et connecter ses propres ventilos réglés en PVM sur la carte mère, à part ce point le reste est un sans faute, d'où malgré tout cette très bonne note, car avec des slient wing 3, il est très mais très très silencieux, totalement inaudible.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had any new air coolers from be quiet! (henceforth referred to as Be Quiet) on our test bench. We looked at the Dark Rock Pro 4 way back in 2018. The German company is well known among PC enthusiasts for its AIO and air cooling products, as well high-end computer cases like the Shadow Base 800 FX and Silent Base 802 . Cooling enthusiasts have been waiting patiently for the successor to Be Quiet’s Dark Rock Pro 4, but they don’t have to wait any longer – today’s review will examine Be Quiet’s latest high-end air coolers, the Dark Rock Pro 5 and Dark Rock Elite. Since heatsinks on both are the same and the only differences are the fans and cover, we’re testing them both together.

Competition this year in air cooling has been fierce. Products like DeepCool’s Assassin IV and Thermalright’s Frost Commander 140 have raised our expectations for quality air cooling. Do the improvements made by Be Quiet’s engineers elevate the Dark Rocks’ performance enough to best its tough competition and earn a spot on our best coolers list ? We’ll have to put it through our cooling and noise testing to find out. But first, here are the coolers’ specifications, direct from Be Quiet!

Cooler Specifications

Solid black design, seven copper heatpipes

The Dark Rock Pro V and Elite CPU coolers both feature solid all-black designs, with seven copper heat pipes connected to dual towers for heat dissipation. The heatsinks on both units are exactly the same; the only differences are the fans and cover.

SFF Compatibility

Many of the largest air coolers won’t fit into space-constrained compact cases. While I can’t promise that the Dark Rock Pro V and Elite will fit into every case on the market, I was able to install it on my Ryzen 7700X SFF system using Silverstone’s SUGO 14 Min-ITX case – though the fit was very tight!

Magnetically Sealed Covers

Both coolers include magnetic covers for the tops of the unit. These hide the top of the heatpipes and the performance mode toggle, giving the coolers a slightly more pleasing look. The top of the Dark Rock Elite features an ARGB ring that can optionally be connected to a motherboard for controlling illumination. 

Adjustable RAM compatibility

Out of the box, these coolers have RAM limitations of 42mm (1.65 inches). However, you can slide the fan up a few notches to accommodate latter RAM like the 45mm DDR4 GSkill sticks I use in my testing setup. The Dark Rock Elite also includes a fan brace, which can be slid up and down to easily adjust its position. The Dark Rock Pro V includes traditional fan clips, which are more fiddly.

Middle Heatsink

In addition to the dual tower heatsinks, both coolers include a small heatsink in the middle of the unit to help move heat away from the CPU.

Silent Wings Fans

There’s more to a cooler than just the heatsink or radiator. The bundled fans significantly impact cooling and noise levels, as well as how the cooler looks in your case. The only real difference between the Dark Rock Pro 5 and the Dark Rock Elite is the fans – and as you’ll see in the benchmarks , this can make a serious impact on thermal performance!

Unfortunately, the specifications below provided by Be Quiet are lacking and don’t provide statistics traditionally included, like static pressure and airflow ratings – but ultimately, our noise and temperature measurements will tell how well the fans perform.

Mixed Height Exit Fins

The fins where air exits the cooler have mixed heights, with three tall fin layers followed by three recessed fin layers. In theory, a design like this helps to improve the total static pressure of airflow.

Dark Rock Pro V vs Dark Rock Elite Differences

Because heatsink on both the Dark Rock Elite and the Dark Rock Pro V is the same, the primary difference between these units are the included fans. The only other difference are the tops of the units, with the Elite offering a ring of ARGB illumination.

Packing and Included Contents 

Both the Dark Rock Pro 5 and the Dark Rock Elite arrive in identically sized packages. The inner contents are protected by molded foam and cardboard. In addition to the contents around the cooler for protection, there are also foam pieces on the insides of the cooler for protection.

LGA 1700 Cooler Installation

The installation of the cooler follows the same process as previous Be Quiet Coolers.

1. You’ll start by assembling the motherboard backplate. Slide the standoffs into the correct position, and secure them using the included rubber rings.

2. Apply the backplate against the motherboard and secure it with the included standoffs. 

3. Secure the included mounting bars against the standoffs using the included screws.

4. Next you’ll need to apply thermal paste to the CPU. If you're unsure how to do that, see our How to Apply Thermal Paste primer. 

5. You’ll need to remove the middle fan from the unit before proceeding. Once that’s done, take the heatsink and press it against the mounting bars and secure it with a screwdriver. Reinsert the middle fan, and then set the toggle on the top to your desired operation mode – quiet mode or performance mode.

6. Most users won’t have to remove the outer fan of the Dark Rock Pro V for installation, but if you’re using tall RAM you’ll want to adjust the fan upwards a few notches to avoid compatibility issues. If you have the Dark Rock Elite model, you can simply slide the fan upwards.

7. Place the cover on the top of the unit and connect the headers to your motherboard – installation is complete!

LGA1700 Socket Bending

There are many factors other than the CPU cooler that can influence your cooling performance, including the case you use and the fans installed in it. A system's motherboard can also influence this, especially if it suffers from bending , which results in poor cooler contact with the CPU. 

In order to prevent bending from impacting our cooling results, we’ve installed Thermalright’s LGA 1700 contact frame into our testing rig. If your motherboard is affected by bending, your thermal results will be worse than those shown below. Not all motherboards are affected equally by this issue. I tested Raptor Lake CPUs in two motherboards. And while one of them showed significant thermal improvements after installing Thermalright’s LGA1700 contact frame, the other motherboard showed no difference in temperatures whatsoever! Testing Methodology

Today's highest-end CPUs, whether Intel or AMD, are difficult to cool in intensive workloads. In the past. reaching 95 degrees Celsius or more on a desktop CPU might have been a cause for concern. But with today’s top-end CPUs, this is considered normal operation. Similar behavior has been present in laptops for years due to cooling limitations in tight spaces.

All testing is performed with a 23 degrees Celsius ambient room temperature. Multiple thermal tests are run on each CPU to test the cooler in a variety of conditions, and acoustic measurements are taken with each result. These tests include:

1. Noise-normalized testing at low noise levels

2. Default configuration thermal & acoustics testing

   a.) No power limits enforced

   b.) Because CPUs hit TJ Max in this scenario (the maximum temperature before throttling), the best way to compare cooling strength is by recording the total CPU package power consumption.

3. Thermal and acoustic testing in power-limited scenarios

   a.) Power limited to 175W to emulate a medium-intensity workload

   b.) Power limited to 125W to emulate a low-intensity workload

The thermal results included are for 10-minute testing runs. To be sure that was sufficiently long to tax the cooler, we tested both Thermalright’s Assassin X 120 R SE and DeepCool’s LT720 with a 30-minute Cinebench test with Intel’s i9-13900K for both 10 minutes and 30 minutes. The results didn’t change much at all with the longer test: The average clock speeds maintained dropped by 29 MHz on DeepCool’s LT720 and 31 MHz on Thermalright’s Assassin X 120 R SE. That’s an incredibly small 0.6% difference in clock speeds maintained, a margin of error difference that tells us that the 10-minute tests are indeed long enough to properly test the coolers.

The Philadelphia 76ers entered the 2024 NBA draft with the chance to drastically reshape their roster. Instead, they kept their powder dry for the start of free agency on Sunday.

Rather than trading the No. 16 pick, the Sixers stood pat and took Duke guard Jared McCain. Team president Daryl Morey later told reporters that they had him graded as a top-10 prospect in this draft class.

"Jared's just been a winner everywhere," Morey said. "He's gonna be someone Philly loves. Pretty rare to get a combination of both a guy who's got some skills that will get him on the floor earlier, including shooting, but also a lot of upside and on a very steep improvement curve."

Morey added that the Sixers were "looking at a lot of scenarios" including trading down in the draft or trading out entirely, but "they all sort of went away when Jared made it" to them at No. 16.

"That was the exact question we faced on the clock," he said. "There was a player offered to us that was pretty interesting; we'd move back a bunch of slots. There was a move back pretty far, but pick up quite a few second-round picks and things like that. But we had McCain as a top-10 player in this draft."

During his lone season at Duke, McCain averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 46.2% overall and 41.4% from deep. That shooting was one of the major reasons why the Sixers took him where they did.

"All else equal, we really value shooting given the rest of our roster," Morey said, highlighting star center Joel Embiid in particular. "We just think Joel's unguardable when he has shooting around him."

McCain measured in at only 6'2" with a 6'3½" wingspan at the NBA combine, which made him a target defensively early in his college career. However, he made strides on that end of the floor throughout his freshman season, to the point that he developed into a plus defender by the end of the year.

"He's got a strong frame, very strong," Morey said. "Good rebounder. We think he'll be a solid defender in the league over time."

Pairing him with another small guard in All-Star Tyrese Maxey might require some lineup tinkering, although both guards can thrive on and off the ball. Worst-case scenario, McCain projects as a high-end sixth man, but the Sixers think he can become far more than that.

"We've got a lot of roster opportunity, so if you can get a player who is hopefully rotation-ready at a very young age—I don't want to put pressure on him, but we think he's got the improvement curve, he's got the approach," Morey said. "He's obviously got a skill that the coach will turn around on the bench and say, 'Hey, I need that skill.' He can really punish people in transition. Can really rebound.

"He's pretty special for a guy to get sort of in the middle of the first round. I don't want to put any tough expectations on him, but we really think this guy's gonna be a 76er for a very long time."

After standing pat at No. 16, the Sixers had another opportunity to make a move Thursday during the second day of the NBA draft. Front offices had an overnight break between the two rounds for the first time, and they took advantage of the extra time by organizing an outrageous number of trades. More than half of the picks in the second round changed hands at some point during the draft.

The Sixers weren't one of them. They stood pat at No. 41 and took UCLA big man Adem Bona, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.

Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer was high on the selection.

In his scouting report for Bona, O'Connor called him a "big-bodied defender with the hands and feet to thrive in any pick-and-roll scheme." Although he measured in at only 6'8" at the combine, he has a 7'4" wingspan and a 243-pound frame that should help him rebound and block shots against NBA bigs.

"Adem is a high-motor player with proven abilities as both a rim protector and switchable defender," Morey said a team press release . "He possesses an impressive blend of size, athleticism, and defensive toughness, and we're excited to add him to our team."

It's unclear what (if anything) the addition of Bona means for Paul Reed, whose $7.7 million salary is non-guaranteed until January. The Sixers could waive him this summer without incurring a dead cap hit if they need to create more cap space for a free-agent signing or a trade, or they could keep him on the books and use him for salary filler in a trade later on.

Once the draft concluded, the Sixers quickly signed Kentucky wing Justin Edwards (a local product) and Memphis wing David Jones to two-way contracts. They also signed Rice big man Max Fiedler to an Exhibit-10 deal, according to Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress, which should get them a close-up look at him during summer league.

No matter how the Sixers round out their roster this offseason, it will behoove them to have a few young developmental projects at the end of their bench. Edwards, Jones and Bona might spend most of the year in the G League with the Delaware 87ers, but as Morey noted, offseason roster turnover could open opportunities for any of them.

With the draft and the priority undrafted-free-agent signings complete, the Sixers can now direct their full attention to free agency. With McCain on their books for $4.0 million, they could still create up to $61.3 million in cap space even if they guarantee Ricky Council IV's $1.9 million contract as well.

It's unclear whom the Sixers will add in the coming days, but Morey made it clear Wednesday that he isn't thinking small going into free agency.

"We're planning to be the best team in the East next year," Morey said. "To be right there with Boston and the other competitors."
