Introduction

Graphite Design is a no-nonsense company.  Every year, they release one or two new shafts with relatively modest fanfare (we reviewed the excellent Tour AD TP earlier this year).  If you need giant social media campaigns, there are shaft companies that give you that.  If you just want solid performance, check out GD.

Appropriate for this time of year, the Graphite Design AD IZ sports an orange and matte black color scheme .  This look is the inverse of one of their most successful models, the Tour AD DI .

Graphically, Graphite Design always plays it straight: simple branding below the handle with a shift in the base color.  This is an all-business look for the serious player, and it’s immediately recognizable as Graphite Design.

On paper, the Graphite Design Tour AD IZ is similar to the Tour AD DI .  The company’s website  describes the AD IZ as being Firm+ in the tip, Medium in the middle, and Firm in the butt.  The AD DI has the same Medium mid section, but the tip is Stiff (half a notch firmer than the AD IZ) and the butt is Medium (a whole notch softer).

That similarity transfers over to the real world.  The tip is extremely stable in both shafts.

What’s different is that the AD IZ doesn’t kick the way the AD DI does; it feels like the energy flows from the handle to the club head .  This is slightly unusual – it’s more common for a shaft to have that distinct bend point – but it’s a great feel once you get used to it.

Performance

What struck me during my testing of the Tour AD IZ was the consistency .  In my first few swings, I struggled with the feel simply because it’s different than what I’ve been gaming.  However, that smooth, whip-crack feel was the same swing after swing, so I was able to get locked in with it quickly.

Once I was dialed in, I saw exactly the ball flight that Graphite Design describes: high launch and low spin .  With the stable tip, I was able to swing hard without a fear of “losing” the shaft.  On the other hand, the feel was so smooth that I could swing easily and still feel it working.  Whether swinging hard or soft, I was able to control the ball flight and maintain near-optimal distance.

The Tour AD IZ is available in a wide range of weights and flexes .  The lightest is 40 grams, available in Lite/Senior and Regular flex.  It’s also important to note that the 40 gram version has a very different profile – a soft tip with medium mid and butt sections.  Every flex from Senior to X is available at 50 grams, with the 50-X being a first for Graphite Design.  The 60 gram model has Regular, Stiff, and X versions.  Only big swingers – Stiff and X – need apply for the 70 or 80 gram models.

The Tour AD IZ enhances the Graphite Design line-up by adding a unique feel that still has the consistency that players of all levels want.  If you’re looking to get your drives “Into the Zone” of high launch and low spin, the AD IZ is definitely worth a look.

I had a GD Purple Ice in a driver and felt it was the best shaft I’ve ever used. Great kick at the correct point and consistent ball flight. Tried a GD YS 6 afterward and it was not satisfying. This sounds similar in feel, so I’d be game to try it.

Just got the iz 6x , I have played a Mitsubishi blue board 62 stiff in my last 5 drivers. Never really believed a shaft could add a noticeable amount of distance. This one is an easy 10 to 15 yards farther and accurate. I did not get fitted but I borrowed 5 different shafts and just liked the feel of this one. It’s still the player and the swing, but when I swing easy, man it goes. Tp 7 handicap

Tour AD IZ vs DI for Driver and 3 wood? Swing speed is close to yours.

If you’re asking which I would play, I’d choose the DI. If you’re asking for a recommendation for yourself, I would say to go work with a fitter.

What is the loft of your driver you tested with Tour AD IZ?

Hi Matt, Why would you choose the DI over the IZ? Feel or just better performance?

The two are connected. The feel of the DI is more comfortable for me, so it performs a bit more consistently. Or perhaps more accurately, I perform more consistently with it.

I’m in the process of researching shafts to put into my new 3 wood. How would compare the IZ to the Atmos Red Tour Spec in terms of feel and performance?

Did you tip the shaft at all? In the past I have been an DI 7x, and 8x tipped more. I’m looking for a little more stability with less work. Would the IZ be a perfect in-between going in the 6tx and 7tx

I did not tip it, installed it straight in.

I’m playing the AD IZ5 X at 46″ in a Mizuno driver and think it’s the best shaft I’ve hit in a long time. It is very accurate, consistent, long, and great feeling. A real winner!

Im getting fitted for a new driver next week. His previous recommendation for my previous driver was the Tour AD MJ but I will try out the DI this time out. Unfortunately they do not the new IZ available for testing. If the DI is recommended how do I go about choosing between the DI and the IZ as they both have similar characteristics?

I’m not trying to be funny or rude, but if the DI is recommended by your fitter, get the DI. Don’t overthink it.

Matt, does this feel and launch similar to the PX Evenflow black? Thanks…Ed

In my opinion, the EvenFlow Black has a feel that’s substantially different than the AD IZ. Launch will depend on how the individual mixes with each shaft.

Which of the two shafts you would choose to play in a 2 sim dhy iron (more pentrating flight and low spin) and 4 sim dhy iron (higher flight and more mid spin?)

What two shafts am I choosing between?

sorry the text was incomplete. I am not able to have a fitting in the country i live and i would like suggestion which shaft you would reccomend between AD DI and AD IZ to play with the SIM DHY #2 and #4 irons. I currently play AD DI 65 grams Stiff regular in the driver and TGI 80 stiff in the irons. Thank you!

I have only tested the AD IZ hybrid shaft. I would suggest that if you’re comfortable with the IZ in your driver, try that in your hybrids, too.

Hi Matt, I have a tendency to over draw the driver. I’m currently using the GD Tour AD DI 7 Stiff in my Driver. Do you think the GD Tour AD IZ 7 Stiff would help straighten out the drives? Or would you have a recommendation to try? Barry.

It’s possible, but not a guarantee. I always recommend getting a fitting rather than buy-and-try because you’ll get to see the results before you spend the money.

That combo might work for you, but I wouldn’t say those two shafts are similar in feel to me.

At the Crowne Plaza Invitational, both second-place finishers carried Purple Ice models while negotiating the demanding Colonial Country Club course at 14-under-par for the week. In fact, one player’s driver, 4-wood and 5-wood all featured Purple Ice shafts while the other professional utilized the popular model in his 3-wood. Preferred by aggressive swingers, Purple Ice shafts are noted for their lively feel, penetrating ball flight and striking appearance.

On the Nationwide Tour, Graphite Design’s impressive run of success continued as the winner of the Melwood Prince George’s County Open used the company’s YS-Hybrid 85 model in a pair of clubs. It marked the fourth consecutive Nationwide Tour event won by a player using Graphite Design shafts and the sixth overall this season. Graphite Design models were in the bags of five top-five finishers at the Melwood Prince George’s County Open.

Graphite Design dominated the graphite wood shaft brand count at the Japan Tour’s Mitsubishi Diamond Cup, marking the 140th consecutive event the company has claimed that category. This week, Graphite Design nearly doubled the closest competitor with 186 shafts in play, a margin of 92 shafts. The tournament winner carried Graphite Design models in a pair of fairway woods en route to victory.

Royal purple launches “next gen” purple ice.

Royal Purple is one of the leading manufacturers of synthetic automotive products, with their various grades of engine oils being their biggest seller. However, many enthusiasts don’t realize that they make pretty much every fluid imaginable for the automobile, including coolant additives such as their patented Purple Ice. Recently, they launched a “Next Gen” version of Purple Ice, and you can read all about it below.

Royal Purple’s reformulated Purple Ice includes “Next-Gen” additive technology, making it the most advanced product of its kind on the market today for lower engine temperatures.

Purple Ice outperformed all competitive products compared in American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) certified coolant corrosion tests and temperature reduction dyno tests.  Purple Ice’s formulation is adapted from ingredients that provide demanding industrial heat exchangers with advanced cooling and corrosion protection.

Whether racing, towing a vehicle or just driving in a day-to-day commute, warm summer temperatures can put an increased strain on the cooling system of an engine and make it prone to overheating.  Purple Ice, which is billed as a 2-in-1 corrosion inhibitor and wetting agent, is safe for use in both aluminum and iron blocks and is proven to counter the effects of load and high summer temperatures on a vehicle’s engine.  In fact, independent tests have shown Purple Ice lowers operating temperatures on average 7-10 degrees when added to a 50/50 mix of coolant and water, and 15-25 degrees when added to straight water.

As a wetting agent, Purple Ice does its job by reducing the surface tension of liquid and allowing a better interface between the hot metal components of a vehicle engine and the coolant, which helps the liquid to drain heat away from the engine and lower engine operating temperatures.

The addition of Purple Ice to an engine is particularly beneficial for high performance racing applications where the use of glycol based anti-freeze coolant is not allowed. When added to water, owners get the best of both worlds. Water has a much higher capacity to transfer heat when compared to traditional anti-freeze, but does not have any of the corrosion protection that glycol-based coolants provide. A mixture of Purple Ice and water provide owners with 100 percent corrosion protection, enhanced heat transfer capabilities and compliance with racetrack rules prohibiting the use of anti-freeze.

Unlike other similar products, Purple Ice is 100 percent water soluble and leaves behind no film or build-up on the internal structures of the engine. In fact, Purple Ice contains powerful polymer-based dispersants that prevent the formation of gels and other deposits within a vehicle’s cooling system that can build-up with the use of traditional coolant mixtures.

Ice Spice is heading on tour this summer, and munchkins couldn’t be more excited.

The Bronx native will embark on her “Y2K! World Tour” beginning on July 30 in Washington, D.C. and will wrap up on Aug. 31 in Miami Beach .

While on tour, Ice Spice will perform in Montclair at The Wellmont Theater on Aug. 1 and then in New York City on Aug. 6 .

Special guests RIOTUSA and Cash Cobain will join as special guests on all North American tour dates .

The tour will be in support of the rapper’s debut album “Y2K!,” which is set to drop on July 26.

A Citi Card presale for Ice Spice’s “Y2K! World Tour” is on now until June 6 at 11:59 p.m. through the Citi Entertainment program .

The general sale will then begin on June 7 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster .

The Duke and Duchess Of Westminster Release Their Official Wedding Photos

Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster , married Olivia Henson at Chester Cathedral on Friday, in what many are calling the society wedding of the decade and the “most royal non-royal nuptials.” Roads were shut down in Chester in order to accommodate the pomp and circumstance, and in an effort to help stave off any blowback, the bride and groom are funding the annual Summer Flowers project, which involves 100,000 flowers being planted across the city, as well as paying for people to get free ice cream on the day of the wedding, provided by three local businesses.

Today, the Duke and Duchess shared their first photos as husband and wife, alongside a statement thanking those who came out to support them. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported us yesterday and want to extend a special thank you to those in Chester who helped make our day so memorable,” the couple wrote. “We have been incredibly touched by everyone’s amazing support and warm wishes.”

The weekend’s events began on the morning of Friday, June 7, around 11:30 a.m., as the groom made his way from the Grosvenor family home on the Eaton Estate to Chester Cathedral in a dark green Land Rover Defender, with his three best men following closely behind. Just before midday, the bride arrived in a vintage Bentley, wearing a dress by the London-based designer Emma Victoria Payne.

The billowing dress incorporated floral motifs from a veil once worn by her great-grandmother that dates back to 1880. Underneath her veil, she wore the Faberge Myrtle Leaf Tiara, which was originally made for the Grosvenors in 1906 to be worn by the family’s brides on their wedding days. For her something blue, she chose Silvia Lago Valentina 8 Riveria pumps, handmade in Spain in velvet fabric and accented with bows on the toes.

The couple said their vows in front of 400 guests, including Prince William, who served as an usher, and Princess Eugenie of York. Celebrations at the Eaton Estate, which have been carefully planned by Fait Accompli , the same event planners behind Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding, are expected to continue this afternoon and evening.

The couple’s love story began when they met through mutual friends back in 2021. After dating for two years, the Duke and Henson announced their engagement in April 2023 with a photo taken outside of the Eaton Estate, where the Duke grew up and is expected to live with his wife. Fittingly, the pair held their reception at Eaton Hall, the Grosvenor family seat, releasing four photos today taken during the celebrations on the 10,000-acre estate.

The Duke, who inherited his title when his father passed away in 2016, is godfather to both Prince George and Prince Archie, and has an estimated net worth of £12 billion ($15.3 billion), making him the wealthiest person under 40 years old in the United Kingdom. The Grosvenor family has been entrenched within the British aristocracy for centuries, and is able to date their lineage back to the year 1066 and the Battle of Hastings. The Duke is also the head of Grosvenor Group—another title that he inherited from his father—and the company has grown to become a multi-billion dollar real estate empire that owns over 1,500 properties in 60 different countries.

The bride attended Marlborough College, the same boarding school that counts both Kate Middleton and Princess Eugenie as alums. She went on to get a dual degree in Hispanic Studies and Italian at Trinity College, and she now works at Belazu, an artisanal food company in England.

Whiteboard, purple ice tour

First is a Diamana Whiteboard shaft its 73 grams x-flex .335 tip and brand new Golf pride multicompound red grip. The shaft was pulled from a burner tp driver and measures 43.25 inches. $90 obo shipped and paypalled.

Next is a new uncut 46 inch Graphite design purple ice 75 x-flex shaft 280 cpm. .335 tip this is the tour model witch is painted black.

$30 shipped and paypalled.
