The Strokes Announce North American Shows

By Ryan Reed

UPDATE (3/9): The Strokes have added more U.S. tour dates throughout March and May.

The Strokes lined up a trio of North American shows. The brief run kicks off March 5th in Vancouver, British Columbia; continues March 9th in Seattle and wraps March 14th in Los Angeles.

Indie-pop acts Alvvays and King Princess will support the band in L.A., and the former will also join for the other dates. General tickets for the L.A. show go on sale Friday, January 31st at 10 a.m. PT, and the Seattle and Vancouver dates follow at noon PT. Citi card members can also access a pre-sale for Seattle and L.A.

In May, the Strokes debuted a new song, “The Adults Are Talking,” onstage during a charity show in L.A., marking the band’s first new material since their 2016 EP, Future Present Past . They kicked off 2020 by debuting another cut, “Ode to the Mets,” during their New Year’s Eve show in Brooklyn.

“Yeah, we’ve got a new album coming out soon,” singer Julian Casablancas told the Barclays Center crowd of the as-yet-unannounced LP, their first full-length since 2013’s Comedown Machine . “2020, here we come. The 2010s, whatever the fuck they’re called, we took ‘em off. And now we’ve been unfrozen and we’re back. If you really love someone, you’ll be frozen with them. You know what? I don’t know what I say generally, and I ramble a lot, but I love you guys, and it’s a real honor to share the stage and this night with you guys.”

The band’s live itinerary also includes festival dates at Miami’s III Points Festival and Barcelona’s Primavera Sound .

The Strokes North American Dates

March 19 – Seattle, WA @ WaMu Theater March 14 – Los Angeles, CA @The Forum May 1 – Miami, FL @ Mana Wynwood Convention Center May 3 – Atlanta, GA @ Central Park May 7 – New Orleans, LA @ Saenger Theater May 9 – Austin, TX @ Germania Amphitheater May 12 – Houston, TX @ Smart Financial Centre

The Strokes' Julian Casablancas sings into a microphone.

It’s time to tune your air guitars.

This August, The Strokes have two North American concerts lined up this August — and for fans wondering “Is This It,” we can confirm, it is.

First up, the legendary NYC band heads southwest to perform with opening act Weyes Blood at Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Monday, Aug. 14.

Five days later, they’ll return home for a one-off gig at Forest Hills, NY’s Forest Hills Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 19 with special guest singer Angel Olsen, comedian Seaton Smith and Promiseland aka Johann Rashid.

Need last-minute tickets to see Julian Casablancas belt out “Someday,” “Reptilia,” “Last Nite,” “12:51,” “You Only Live Once” and bangers from their 2021 Grammy-winning album “The New Abnormal?”

Well, it’s not too late.

Seats are available for both shows — they’re just not cheap.

The lowest price for the two concerts, at the time of publication, is $139 before fees on Vivid Seats.

That may have something to do with the scarcity of these shows; however, the good news is they may go down as the show dates approach.

All we know is the best way to find a deal is to keep refreshing this page .

By doing so, it’s very possible you just might find a bargain.

In the meantime, our team compiled everything you need to know about the Strokes’ brief August tour — from the best prices for each concert to set lists to details about the support acts — below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

The Strokes 2023 tour schedule

A complete breakdown of all the cheapest ticket prices for The Strokes two concerts on their mini-tour can be found right here:

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

The Strokes set list

Prior to these two concerts, the garage rockers have been touring overseas.

Here’s what they played live at their most recent headlining non-festival gig courtesy of Set List FM :

01.) “What Ever Happened?” 02.) “Bad Decisions” 03.) “Soma” 04.) “Juicebox” 05.) “Automatic Stop” 06.) “The Adults Are Talking” 07.) “Take It or Leave It” 08.) “Under Control” 09.) “Reptilia” 10.) “Call It Fate, Call It Karma” 11.) “Red Light” 12.) “Someday” 13.) “Ize of the World” Encore:

14.) “Hard to Explain” 15.) “You Only Live Once” 16.) “Last Nite”

The Strokes special guests

Weyes Blood is the brainchild of singer Natalie Laura Mering. Her nostalgic, yearning, lush and lo-fi music is the perfect complement to The Strokes’ brash rock. We recommend checking out her most-streamed song “Andromeda” for a sample of her sound.

Angel Olsen has a voice you can’t get out of your head. We mean that in a good way. Switching from bold to vulnerable — sometimes in a single track — she captivates listeners with her refreshingly honest vocals. While she’s more well-known for other songs, for us, we suggest starting with her incredible cover of Billy Idol’s “Eyes Without A Face.”

Seaton Smith wows audiences all over North America on a nightly basis. Now, the “Mulaney” actor (remember when John Mulaney had a sitcom on Fox?) and comic will deliver laughs poking fun at his past, society as a whole and maybe even throw in a little crowd work when he performs in Queens.

Promised Land wears many hats. Johann Rashid plays punk-like music, does performance art, and screens video at his live shows. These shows are not to be missed — he often leaves the stage with “broken ribs, bloody gashes, or jalapeno-infused tequila in his eyes” according to his bio . Gnarly.

Rock bands on tour in 2023

While The Strokes have just two shows lined up — as of now — many other groups have longer tours scheduled.

Here’s a quick look at a few other acts you won’t want to miss live these next few months.

•  Death Cab For Cutie with The Postal Service

• Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

•  Arctic Monkeys

• Pixies and Modest Mouse

Live reviews

The Strokes are unquestionably one of the best bands out there, and you can really tell that they have been influenced by The Doors. I love The Doors and so I love The Strokes.

Just like Jim Morrison, the lead singer of The Strokes (Julian Casablancas) has an element of shyness to him. The band works together very well and they just look like they belong together: if you watch Fab Moretti (the drummer), he's always looking up and watching the other players really intensely. I really enjoy watching them play together and I love to see them live. They don’t talk to the audience much, and mainly just focus on playing, but they do make some contact with the audience. You can tell that their fans really love them and their concerts are always filled with good people.

Due to the fact that they are so popular they usually play for really large crowds, but if you are very lucky you can catch one of their smaller more intimate performances. I've only ever managed to see them with a large crowd, but I have to say it was still really fun. You get a much bigger atmosphere when there are more people; everyone is so excited, but Julian looks so cool and reserved in his leather coat and sunglasses.

Since I've been a fan of theirs (for more than 10 years), I really think that The Strokes are getting better over time and that is good because I want them to be around for a long time!

Report as inappropriate

I was lucky enough to see the Strokes at Governor's Ball in 2014. It had been 3 years since legendary rock band The Strokes had played a show. They surprised New York with a pop up Governor's Ball pre-party show a week prior so it was their second show back after not touring their latest album. Either way, it felt just as special to be their first festival show in a while. I have never had a better concert experience than my Strokes show. Between exploding with "Barely Legal" and ending with "New York City Cops," all 5 albums were touched upon. Frontman Julian Casablancas is extremely confident in the best way possible. He interacted with the audience, sang every song perfectly and messed around with other bandmates during some songs. He even goofily covered Nikolai's eyes while dancing around stage. The fact that there were times when the crowd was singing guitar riffs louder than they were being played is a sign of an amazing show in my opinion. The crowd was on fire and it was obvious the Strokes fed off this energy in an amazing way.

If the Strokes come back for a real tour, do NOT miss out on the opportunity to see them; the show will be so good you'll get chills thinking about it even a month later.

It’s official: they’re back.

The Strokes played in Berlin their first show (in a venue) in Europe in 9 years with a solid combination of their 3 first records, one song from Come Down Machine and 2 new songs (The Adults are Talking and Bad Decisions).

They played with a great mood between them and we could see one of the best Casablancas, joking with the band and the crowd, even singing Last Nite jumping to the public.

I hope this is just the beginning and they play in more venues than during last 14 years.

As someone who grew up listening to The Strokes and holding this band in high regard, it kills me to say that this show was a major disappointment.

Nobody could hear Julian's vocals. I'm not sure if the instruments were too loud or if Julian's mic was indeed too loud, but the fact of the matter is that you could not hear Julian at all.

Besides that, the band themselves sounded awesome and seeing Albert go off during Last Nite was simply awesome. Singing along with the whole crowd to classics like 12:51, Reptillia, and Hard to Explain felt like a dream.

The Floor GA tickets were not cheap and considering the major flaw that basically ruined the show, I can't say I would ever go out of my way to see The Strokes again if they toured nearby.

I recently saw the Strokes at the Forum in LA. It twas my first time and they were tight. Julian's falsetto was on point and I got no complaints. I will definitely be seeing them again! We are lucky that they are still together.

After 2 of worst Tour shots you’ll see, golf’s true beauty was on display

Matt Wallace on Friday on the 9th hole at TPC Craig Ranch.

Golf Channel

Jack Nicklaus, the 18-time major winner, was talking about shanks.

Even offered a correction about one, too.

The subject came up last month, at the Masters , after Nicklaus participated in the ceremonial opening tee shots at Augusta National , where he was told by a reporter that YouTube has allowed the younger audience to relive his prime — and shots seemingly everyone would like to delete from history. Said the reporter:

“I saw a shot you hit on 12 in ’67, a sideways shank …”

But Nicklaus cut him off, to some laughter.

“’64. It was an 8-iron, and I almost killed Bob Jones and Cliff Roberts. Shanked it right over their head in the last round.”

The conversation continued.

“I can’t imagine you’ve shanked too many shots in your career.”

“Not too many, but I’ve shanked one or two,” Nicklaus said. “That was one. Jones and Roberts came down to watch us at the 12th hole. Their cart was out in front here, about 20, 25 yards on the right side, and I put it right over their head with an 8-iron. I nearly made three.”

“What did you do when you hit those kind of shots, rare as they were, to steel yourself …”

“Go play the next one,” Nicklaus said. “What can you do? You know, you hit it. You’ve got to go chase it. There isn’t anything you can do. It’s a little embarrassing. I always — I use that as one of my most embarrassing moments in golf.”

The point in sharing this? A couple reasons. Knowing that Jack Nicklaus shanks can be soothing; your shanks don’t seem as much as a ‘you problem.’ But there’s also something more warming about Nicklaus’ thoughts. Maybe it’s why you play this mostly beautiful but sometimes maddening game.

You hit it. You’ve got to chase it.

Good. Or bad.

Brooks Koepka

Brutal honesty from Brooks Koepka (and other pros) is fantastic insight. Here’s why

Something romantic about that. On to the next one, because there’s always another one.

With that, there was Matt Wallace late Friday afternoon, a stroke from the top at the Byron Nelson . He was playing his second shot on TPC Craig Ranch’s par-5 9th, his last hole after he’d started on the back nine. He was 242 out, though in a touch of danger, as his tee ball settled just to the left of the cart path and in some patchy grass. He went with a 2-iron.

His ball went about 15 feet off the ground.

A top.

“Oh no,” Golf Channel announcer Terry Gannon said.

“Oh my goodness,” Golf Channel analyst Arron Oberholser said.

“Pros are humans, too,” Golf Channel analyst Johnson Wagner said.

Wallace looked down. It came at the wrong time. It came at the wrong place. His ball darted into the penalty area just in front of him. There was water there.

“When I got up there [to his second shot], and I was like, oh, no bother,” Wallace said afterward. “But I haven’t hit it off hard mud in a while, so I took it back with a 2-iron. I thought the 2-iron was the play to get it a bit further up than just the 4-iron and be left. Two-iron would take out the water, from what I thought.

“But it got caught on the way back, and the way through, I didn’t want to lean on it so I just tried to pick it and I picked it too much and I topped it.”

Only Wallace found his ball. He had a shot at the green. He hit the green. He made his par. He’ll be a contender on Saturday.

“I’m laughing now,” Wallace said, “because I’ve managed to find it and get it up to the green and two-putt.”

Asked an on-site reporter: “What’s the minute and a half or two minutes like when you …”

“Well, I was hoping they found it,” Wallace said. “so then I could at least try and make a five that way. If not, two scenarios went through my head. OK, right, where can I drop this to get it on the green? Then obviously found it, so as soon as I found it, I was like, right, you got a bit of luck there so take advantage of it.

“So as unlucky I got off the tee a little bit, I think I got away with that one, got lucky there, so happy with the five. And we go. We carry on.”

We carry on.

With that, there was Jason Day later Friday afternoon. The defending champ at this thing, he was on the cut number on the par-5 18th, where he went right off the tee. Then long, into the water short of the green. Only it appeared he tried to lay up short of it, but his ball cannonballed right in.

Hard to say. It was something. The Golf Channel gang had some words.

Said Wagner: “I don’t care if it jumped — that ball should be nowhere near the penalty area.”

Said Gannon: “That was really odd.”

Said analyst Colt Knost : “That’s just inexcusable.”

But things worsened. Day dropped. Took his penalty stroke. He was hitting four, which he pitched on the green, where it yo-yoed backward. That 34-footer was for par now.

CLUTCH to make the CUT‼️ @JDayGolf saves par at the last and will play the weekend @CJByronNelson 💪 pic.twitter.com/Wurme2C6iB — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) May 3, 2024

Only he made that.

He’ll have a chance to defend his crown starting Saturday.

Yelled Gannon on the putt: “What? He made it!”

Said Wagner: “I don’t know what I’m feeling right now.”

Unsurprisingly, on the 18th green, Day sheepishly grinned.

Golf’s funny like that.

England's Kim, 16, youngest to make PGA Tour cut in 11 years

Kris Kim , a 16-year-old English amateur playing on a sponsor exemption at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, became the youngest player in 11 years to make the cut in a PGA Tour event.

Kim finished his second round Friday with a birdie for a 4-under 67. At 7-under 135, he was among 66 players who made the cut, which was 6 under. Jake Knapp was the leader at 14-under 128.

Guan Tianlang was 14 when he made the cut at both the Masters and Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2013, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

At 16 years, 7 months old, Kim is the fifth-youngest player ever to make a PGA Tour cut, according to the Tour. His feat also comes just two weeks after Miles Russell, 15, became the youngest to make the cut in the 35-year history of the Korn Ferry Tour.

Kim, who is the son of former LPGA Tour player and South Korea native Ji-Hyun Suh, is making his PGA Tour debut. He is the first amateur sponsored by South Korean company CJ Group, which is the title sponsor of the Nelson for the first time.

"I'm happy," Kim said. "I can't wait to get started again tomorrow. I've enjoyed it so much the last couple days, and being here two more days makes it so much sweeter."

A first-time Tour winner earlier this year, Knapp enters the weekend with sole possession of the lead after a second consecutive 7-under 64 in McKinney, Texas. He was a stroke ahead of Troy Merritt (62) and first-round leader Matt Wallace (66) and 2 ahead of Kelly Kraft (66).

"Even when I was doing any of that stuff, I always knew this was what I wanted to do and felt like it's where I should be. Just wasn't there yet," said Knapp, just more than two years removed from working security at a restaurant in his hometown that was also a late-night hotspot. "Just kept working away and sticking at it."

Merritt closed his season-low round with an eagle at the 531-yard ninth hole, where he hit his approach to 16 feet and made the putt. He had birdied four of the previous six holes.

Wallace finished on the same par 5 later in the day and saved par after driving into a native area and then chunking a shot from there to under a bridge.

Hometown favorite Jordan Spieth , the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 20, shot a 70 to finish at 4-under 138 and miss the cut by 2 strokes. On the 16th, his wayward drive ricocheted off the elbow of a male spectator back into the fairway. Spieth still bogeyed the hole then parred his last two.

Defending champion Jason Day closed his round with a 35-foot par putt for a 70 and was just on the cut line at 6-under 136.

Knapp's only bogey through the first two rounds was on his 12th hole Friday, the dogleg No. 3, where his drive went into the left rough. But he birdied four of his last six holes, that stretch starting with a 32-foot putt at the par-3, 192-yard fourth hole.

"Obviously, a putt you're not trying to make," he said. "Hit it a little bit harder than I would've liked and luckily it was on a good line and went in."

Knapp, who turns 30 on May 31, lost his card on the developmental Korn Ferry Tour before taking the part-time job in the fall of 2021 at the place in Costa Mesa, California, where for nearly nine months he worked Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights -- often until 2 or 3 a.m. The former UCLA player would practice and go to the gym in between his work shifts.

He got his third win on PGA Tour Canada in August 2022 and last year earned his PGA Tour card by finishing the season 13th on the Korn Ferry Tour. He won the Mexico Open in his fifth start this season, and his ninth overall, including two as an amateur in 2015.

His PGA Tour biography also touts that he can solve a Rubik's Cube, loves to work out and would pursue a career in the fitness industry if he weren't playing golf.

"Yeah, few interesting ones about me," Knapp said. "I do my best to, I'm kind of a golf-only guy. Just play a lot of golf and practice a lot. That's been my focus for the last four, five years."

At TPC Craig Ranch north of Dallas, Knapp hit 16 of 18 greens each of the first two rounds. He had the same number of putts (28) both days, though the combined distance of those shots on the greens went from 75 feet on Thursday to 139 feet on Friday.

"For the most part hitting it pretty solid and keeping in the right areas. Made it relatively easy on myself." Knapp said. "Early on in the year felt like I was putting well, and for the last month or so the stroke felt the same and ball wasn't going in the hole. ... Nice to see a few more going in."

Merritt opened his round with consecutive birdies before a three-putt bogey at No. 12, though he got that stroke right back with a 52-foot chip-in at No. 13. He made only his second cut in his past six tournaments, finishing 67th in the other one.

"It's fantastic, especially when you hit the ball solid and making a lot putts," said Merritt, who is in his 331st PGA Tour event and last won in 2018. "You're not accidentally there. You've actually played well to get there. I haven't done that. I've accidently backdoored a couple top-10s last fall."
