Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction to Embark on ‘Spirits on Fire’ Tour

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced a North American arena tour where the semi-reunited band will be joined by special guests and fellow alt-rock gods Jane’s Addiction.

Frontmen Billy Corgan and Perry Farrell announced the Spirits on Fire Tour Wednesday morning during a visit to the Howard Stern Show , with the Smashing Pumpkins also scheduled to perform Thursday on The Late Late Show .

The trek — the Pumpkins’ first since their semi-reunion tour in 2019, and Jane’s first full-scale jaunt since 2016 — kicks off Oct. 2 at Dallas, Texas’ American Airlines Center and keeps both bands on the road for nearly two months, hitting basketball and hockey arenas in most major markets before concluding Nov. 19 at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl. To celebrate the Spirits on Fire Tour and their career in general, the Smashing Pumpkins will dip their hands in wet cement Wednesday afternoon as the latest artists enshrined outside Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theater.

In addition to the tour, the Smashing Pumpkins have promised new music in 2022 as the prolific Corgan follows up the band’s 2020 double-LP Cyr .

Two of alt rock ‘s biggest bands, Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction , are teaming up for a North American headlining arena tour dubbed “Spirits on Fire.” The 32-date outing featuring the Pumpkins headlining with support from Jane’s is slated to kick off on Oct. 2 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas and hit Houston, Austin, Tampa, Nashville, Atlanta, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Toronto, St. Louis, Detroit, Chicago, Denver and Vancouver before winding down with a show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Nov. 19.

Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan and Jane’s vocalist Perry Farrell announced the Live Nation-promoted tour on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show on Wednesday morning (May 11) and the Pumpkins will promote the outing on The Late Late Show on Thursday night (May 12). On Wednesday afternoon, the Pumpkins will also appear at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood for a commemorative ceremony celebrating the tour, with the band members slated to put their handprints in cement.

Poppy and Meg Myers will join the bill on select dates. Pre-sales for the tour begin on Thursday (May 12) beginning at 10 a.m. local time with general on-sale kicking off on Friday (May 13) at 10 a.m. local time; click here for more details.

The Smashing Pumpkins  today announced their North American arena tour with special guests  Jane’s Addiction.  Produced by  Live Nation , the 32-date  SPIRITS ON FIRE TOUR  will commence on  October 2 in Dallas, TX  and will conclude on  November 19  in  Los Angeles, CA  at the  Hollywood Bowl . Tomorrow night, in support of  The Smashing Pumpkins  tour announcement, the GRAMMY® Award-winning, critically acclaimed band will be performing and talking on  CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden . 

Later today,  The Smashing Pumpkins  will appear at the  TCL Chinese Theater  in Hollywood for a commemorative ceremony in celebration of their tour announcement. Each band-member will add their handprints in cement, joining a long list of global treasures before them. 

When  The Smashing Pumpkins  first emerged out of Chicago in 1988, the world had never heard a band quite like them. They spun together rock, pop, shoe-gaze, metal, goth, psychedelia, and electronic into a kaleidoscope of saccharine melodies, fuzzy distortion, bombastic orchestration, incendiary fretwork, eloquent songcraft, and unshakable hooks. Upon their formation, their sound was different, iconoclastic, and wholly new—and it still is today. As a result, they’ve sold over 30 million albums worldwide and collected two GRAMMY® Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award. Smashing Pumpkins Announce “Spirits On Fire” Tour with Jane’s Addiction

The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction have teamed up for the Spirits on Fire tour, which will see the bands covering North America over October and November. Lead singers Billy Corgan and Perry Farrell made the announcement on the Howard Stern show. For each group, it will be their first outing in some years.

The bass chairs will be filled by Jack Bates in the Pumpkins and Chris Chaney in Jane’s Addiction. Bates, who is the son of ex-Joy Division bassist Peter Hook, first joined the fold for their semi-reunion tour in 2019. Check him out in action with “Today” from the Late Late Show with James Corden:

The tour kicks off October 2nd in Dallas, Texas, and will snake its way into Canada for shows in Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, and Vancouver. They’ll then cut through the Midwest to wrap up on the West Coast. The final date is set for November 19th at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Smashing Pumpkins Book Fall 2022 Tour With Jane’s Addiction + Poppy

This October, Smashing Pumpkins will hit the road on the "Spirits on Fire Tour" with special guest Jane's Addiction and additional support from either Poppy or Meg Myers at select dates.

The 32-date run kicks off on Oct. 2 in Dallas, Texas and will venture eastward, up into Canada and back down across the boarder, straight into the heartland and then on over toward the west coast with a final show set for Nov. 19 in Los Angeles, California.

Joining Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction for the majority of the run is the enigmatic, genre-bending Poppy, who released her fourth album,  Flux , in September of last year. The only two instances where she will not open the show are Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, for which alt-rock/art pop musician Meg Myers will assume the opening duties.

The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction kicked off their Spirits On Fire tour yesterday (10/2/22) in Texas with some surprises, new material, and a stand-in guitarist.

Jane's Addiction found itself on this tour with an unusual lineup. Just days ago, founding Jane's guitarist Dave Navarro announced he would miss the North American tour due to struggles with long COVID .

The tattooed axe wielder first contracted coronavirus in December of last year and has been battling it ever since. The band has temporarily replaced him with Queens of the Stone Age / A Perfect Circle guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen.

"I am personally gutted as our original bass player has returned, Eric Avery," Navarro announced IG. "We wanted to bring you the original line up but that will have to wait until I am recovered." The LA legends fronted by Perry Farrell delivered a tight set of just 11 songs from their first three studio albums. Noticeably missing was "Just Because" and "Superhero" from their fourth album Strays . Perhaps one or both of those tunes will enter the mix as the tour rolls on.

The Pumpkins performed twice as many songs and included a Talking Heads cover that's been a staple to their set. They also gave a lot of love to their newest project, the forthcoming  ATUM: A Rock Opera in Three Acts ( which we discussed last month).

The American Airlines Center show featured two live debuts off ATUM (pronounced autumn): "Harmageddon" and "Neophyte."

SP's set began with one of the first singles from ATUM, "Empires," establishing the band's commitment of using this tour as a way to support the 33-song triple album it will release next year.

But not everything was new music from Billy Corgan's troupe. Long time fans were treated to six tracks from  Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, including the hard-rocking "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" and "Zero" as well as singalong favorites "1979" and "Tonight, Tonight," the latter of which Billy and guitarist James Iha performed acoustically. 

The top of The Pumpkins' set was noteworthy. Opening with a new song is a great way to set the tone, and to follow it with a smash hit, as they did with "...Butterfly Wings" is a solid one-two punch.

But then they doled out one of their most popular tunes of all, "Today," which lesser bands would have saved for the encore. Not these Chicagoans.  To add a cherry on top, "Today" was followed by "We Only Come Out At Night," a Mellon Collie track the band only played 18 times in 1996, when the album dropped, and another 18 times in 2008 for their 20th Anniversary Tour. Hopefully that will stay in the epic set, time permitting.

Another tune that hadn't been heard live much recently was "I of the Mourning" from  MACHINA/The Machines of God , a song the group hasn't rocked since 2013. It fits the current theme as ATUM is the final piece of the trilogy of sorts of Mellon Collie and MACHINA. Jane's and the Pumpkins will be spending October and November touring together around the US and Canada, ending up at the Hollywood Bowl on 11/19/22. Tickets are available here .

Produced by Live Nation , the 32-date SPIRITS ON FIRE TOUR will commence on October 2 in Dallas, TX, featuring a stop at the award-winning State Farm Arena in Atlanta on October 11 , and will conclude on November 19 in Los Angeles, CA at the Hollywood Bowl . Tomorrow night, in support of The Smashing Pumpkins tour announcement, the GRAMMY® Award-winning, critically acclaimed band will be performing and talking on CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden .

Later today, The Smashing Pumpkins will appear at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood for a commemorative ceremony in celebration of their tour announcement. Each band-member will add their handprints in cement, joining a long list of global treasures before them.

When The Smashing Pumpkins first emerged out of Chicago in 1988, the world had never heard a band quite like them. They spun together rock, pop, shoe-gaze, metal, goth, psychedelia, and electronic into a kaleidoscope of saccharine melodies, fuzzy distortion, bombastic orchestration, incendiary fretwork, eloquent songcraft, and unshakable hooks. Upon their formation, their sound was different, iconoclastic, and wholly new—and it still is today. As a result, they’ve sold over 30 million albums worldwide and collected two GRAMMY ® Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award. Their catalog is highlighted by the platinum Gish [1991], the quadruple-platinum Siamese Dream [1993], diamond-certified Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness [1995], platinum Adore [1998], and gold Machina/The Machines of God [2000]. Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction tour a double dose of rock that has endured for decades

Over three hours and 27 songs at the united center, it was hard not to recall the first time you heard ‘today’ or saw the ‘been caught stealing’ video..

Everyone had a story Saturday night at the United Center. In the merch line, some were reminiscing about their first time seeing Smashing Pumpkins play the Metro in ’92. In the women’s bathroom, there was a mini high school reunion where old friends recalled wearing out their cassettes of Jane’s Addiction’s debut, “Nothing’s Shocking.”

Since it kicked off in early October, the Spirits on Fire Tour featuring the two ’90s mainstays has become a music fan’s scrapbook pasted together with decades of sentimental glue, perhaps to the chagrin of Billy Corgan, who has often vocalized his thoughts on dreaded nostalgia. But he tapped into his memory bank on this night, asking bandmate James Iha if he remembered the early “Gish” days, with Corgan then sharing he could recall “every moment” over the past three decades of the band.

As the Pumpkins and Jane’s combined three hours and 27 songs played on throughout the night, it was hard not to recall the first time you heard the former’s “Today” or first came across the latter’s wild video for “Been Caught Stealing.”

The pairing of the two bands for the first time on a bill together since 1988 feels like a birthright moment, an inimitable double dose of some of the most solid music and musicians that rock has birthed in the past 40 years, not the least of which were drummers Jimmy Chamberlin and Stephen Perkins, true stars of the show. It was hard to forget that on the other side of the country on this night, a handful of bands were being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and here on stage at United Center were two legacy acts just as worthy.

“It’s so great to be home,” Highland Parker Corgan said midway through the Pumpkins’ set, bowing to the crowd and thanking them for 34 years of support. (Saturday’s show also felt like a homecoming for Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell, who recently inked a new 10-year contract with the city.) Of course, the pinnacle moment in the Pumpkins’ set came during a pared-down, acoustic version of “Tonight, Tonight” featuring just him and Iha surrounded by a backdrop of twinkling stars on a wraparound video screen. It’s almost a given the Pumpkins will play the song in Chicago, as the giant echo of the proud crowd singing back the lyric “the city by the lake” is unique to our town.

The Pumpkins also had a few local guests, including photographer friend Dicky Shay (who once also worked on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”), who Corgan said saved the tour a few weeks back by flying in with forgotten passports, as well as Corgan’s two young children, who came out for a dance-along to new song “Beguiled.” But it was the guest appearance of local saxophonist Frank Catalano on “Silverf- - -” that was a prime moment, adding an alluring and dark jazzy layer on top of the explosive live song.

The 17 tracks were an excellent curation of the Pumpkins’ well-hewn discography, similar to the setlist from an intimate show at Chicago’s Metro in September as part of the venue’s 40th anniversary celebrations, where the Pumpkins got their feet wet so many years ago. Surprises on this night included “Eye,” their “Lost Highway” soundtrack contribution and a sublimely heavy cover of the Talking Heads’ “Once in a Lifetime” that was drenched in the Pumpkins’ psych rock and metal influences. It was another great example of the band’s incredible guitar frontline made up of Corgan, Iha and Jeff Schroeder that remains pivotal to the band’s sonic identity. (There was still no D’arcy Wretzky to round out the band’s full original lineup, as Jack Bates continues his stint as the touring bassist while Katie Cole fills in on backup vocals.)

Before the Pumpkins, it was a relief to see Jane’s Addiction take their rightful place Saturday night after a few issues that have marred the tour. Notably, guitarist Dave Navarro has not been able to join due to issues with long-haul COVID, and more recently the band had to cancel a few stops due to an undisclosed injury suffered by Farrell.

Though they were in fine form on this night, with the talented Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age) doing justice as a fill-in for Navarro and original bassist Eric Avery rounding out the compatible-as-ever lineup. The band tore through 10 songs that showed the unmistakable range that has always bucked trends and made Jane’s un-categorically diverse.

“We can do it all,” Farrell said at one point, introducing a “folksy” stripped-back take on “Jane Says.” His penchant for jazz scat vocals on this night also added unusual flair on a few songs, as did his wild banter that took on everything from the price of wine to his thoughts on spanking. Mid-set stunner “Three Days” was the prize of the performance, slinky and dangerous in its approach, added to by the choreography of Farrell’s wife Etty Lau and her tribe of dancers. The song was also full of long-sweeping solos that showed off incredible musicianship, begging for rumors to be true the troupe is working on new music.

Jane’s Addiction Sets High Bar at Fiery Tour Kickoff: Set List and Review

Jane’s Addiction stormed Dallas’ American Airlines Center on Sunday night during the opening stop of their Spirits on Fire Tour in support of the Smashing Pumpkins , barreling through an 11-song, hourlong set with the charisma and ferocity of headliners.

Decked out in matching, acid-washed black vest and pants, Perry Farrell sauntered on stage with a wine bottle in his hand, swigging from it intermittently throughout the evening. He set the mood early with show opener “Up the Beach,” goading the crowd with his reverb-drenched vocals and prowling the stage with elven aggression.

“I love coming out here night after night and shaking my balls!” Farrell told the audience. “Don’t it feel good, fellas?”

The quartet — Farrell, drummer Stephen Perkins, bassist Eric Avery and guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen (of Queens of the Stone Age ) — was augmented by a troupe of exotic dancers who climbed, swung and rode a rocking horse across the stage. Van Leeuwen was deputized to fill in for original Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro , who recently announced he would  sit out this tour  due to continuing long COVID symptoms. While the six-stringer may have lacked Navarro’s sex-god flamboyance, he preened and pranced across his quadrant of the stage and nailed Navarro’s fiery solos.

The audience fully erupted when the band broke into “Jane Says,” signaling the start of a hit-filled joy ride that included “Been Caught Stealing,” “Mountain Song” and furious set closer “Stop!” The group got heavy on the riff-driven “Ocean Size” and sprawled out on the seven-plus-minute “Just Admit It, Ted…,” whose “sex is violent” refrain gave way to some pointed social commentary from Farrell.

“Don’t let no one tell you what to do with your sex! Don’t let no one tell you what to do in your bed!” the frontman exhorted. “It’s gonna feel good in bed. And it’s none of their damn business what you do in bed.”

Farrell announced in late July that he would be spending August working on new music for three of his bands — Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros and Kind Heaven Orchestra — as well as a protest folk project. "Even though we can't get together in that garage five times a week, that doesn't mean we won't come up with something as good or better as we did back then," he told  Spin of his Jane's Addiction comrades. "I'm expecting to. I'm really counting on us coming up with the best material we've ever done."

To that end, Navarro — who admitted he was "personally gutted" about missing out on the tour — announced he'd "be working on some new Jane's material in the studio here in L.A" while his bandmates were on the road.

The Spirits on Fire Tour is scheduled to conclude Nov. 19, with a performance at the Hollywood Bowl.

Jane’s Addiction Announce Classic-Lineup Tour With Love & Rockets

OG alt-rockers Jane’s Addiction are finally back at full strength, and now they’re ready to hit the road. Last year, Jane’s Addiction headed out on a co-headlining tour with the Smashing Pumpkins, and original bassist rejoined the band for the first time in 12 years. But Jane’s Addiction guitar hero Dave Navarro, suffering from the effects of long COVID, didn’t take part. (Josh Klinghoffer filled in .) Last week, however, the band played a small show at London’s Bush Hall, and all four of them were back together for the first time in 14 years.

It appears that Jane’s Addiction have plans for the future. At the London show, they debuted the new song “Imminent Redemption.” Now, they’ve announced a summer tour of North America, and they’re bringing some of their contemporaries with them. If you’re not familiar with Love And Rockets, that’s the group that the non-Peter Murphy members of Bauhaus started after that group broke up. Like Jane’s Addiction , Love And Rockets recently appeared in our Alternative Number Ones column. Love And Rockets will join Jane’s Addiction on tour this summer, and it won’t be the first time that the two bands toured together.

Janes Addiction previously opened for Love And Rockets on tour in the late ’80s, before they blew up. Fun fact: Perry Farrell included a heart and a rocket in his cover art for Jane’s Addiction’s classic 1990 album Ritual De Lo Habitual ; it was his tribute to Love And Rockets. This summer, the two bands’ roles will reverse, as Love And Rockets will open the shows. Check out the dates below.

Live Review: The Smashing Pumpkins w/ Jane’s Addiction @ Capital One Arena — 10/18/2022

The Spirits on Fire Tour featuring The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction paid visit to Capital One Arena last week featuring two bedrocks of the ’90s alternative rock scene taking different approaches to their sets.

At Capital One Arena on Oct. 18, headliners Smashing Pumpkins, led by alt-rock curmudgeon Billy Corgan, were ostensibly promoting their upcoming triple album, Atum, which is being released in three phases with Act 1 arriving on Nov. 15. The band’s set featured four new songs from Atum, “Beguiled,” “Empires,” “Harmageddon,” and “Neophyte.” “ Beguiled ” is out on your streaming service of choice, and it’s the best thing Corgan and Co. have done in years.

The aforementioned “Empires”  led off the night and was quickly followed by “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” and “Today” had the capacity crowd all on their feet. The next phase of the show was more for the hardcore fans and the energy in the venue dragged a bit when the band played a gothy cover of Talking Heads’ “Once in a Lifetime” and the industrial-sounding tracks “Eye” and “Ava Adore.” However, a heartfelt acoustic version of  “Tonight, Tonight” by Billy and guitarist James Iha was a nice change of pace and got everyone’s attention back.

A late set 1-2-3 punch of “Cherub Rock,” “Zero,” and “1979” showed the breadth of the Pumpkins sound and returned the crowd’s energy level to 10/10 for the final few songs.

All in all, not a bad performance (certainly better than their somewhat stodgy 2019 show at Merriweather ) that showed Billy Corgan still has things to say that are worth hearing.

One thing Billy Corgan has been very good at recently is choosing excellent openers for his tours. In 2016 for Billy’s “Plainsong” tour he brought Liz Phair and in 2019 Noel Gallagher did the honors . This time around it was Jane’s Addiction, a band that somehow I had never seen. I still regret not seeing their 2009 NINJA co-headlining show at Merriweather with Nine Inch Nails but I unsuccessfully tried to see the Beastie Boys in Baltimore that night. 

I did not have high expectations for their set, especially with Dave Navarro’s absence due to long covid (get well soon, Dave!) but I could not have been more wrong. Perry Farrell and Co. sounded brilliant and aside from one cover, stuck to material released before 1991. Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen filled in at guitar and with all respect to Navarro, he fit in seamlessly and you’d have never known this was his first tour with the band. 

We got all the band’s best known songs, “Ocean Size,” “Mountain Song,” “Stop!,” Been Caught Stealing” and of course, “Jane Says.”

Perry Farrell’s voice was magnificent and the rhythm section of bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins supplied the tribal beats and basslines that propel the band. The 10-minute epic “Three Days” was a particular highlight and a song I’ve waited decades to hear live.

Jane’s addiction announces us tour with love and rockets.

Jane’s Addiction has announced a co-headlining U.S. tour with Love and Rockets .

The joint outing kicks off August 9 in Las Vegas and concludes September 26 in Indianapolis.

Presales begin Tuesday. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday at 10 a.m. local time. For the full list of dates and all ticket info, visit JanesAddiction.com .

The tour news follows the reunion of Jane’s classic lineup — frontman Perry Farrell , guitarist Dave Navarro , drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Aver y — for the first time in 14 years during an intimate show in London on May 23. Avery rejoined the group in 2022, while Navarro had been absent from the band since late 2021 due to long COVID-19.

Jane's Addiction Plot North American Tour After Classic Lineup Finally Reunites

Fresh off their first show together in 14 years , the classic lineup of Jane's Addiction are ready for more, announcing a co-headlining North American tour with Love & Rockets that will kick off this summer.

The 23-date trek will launch Aug. 9 at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas and wrap Sept. 26 at the Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jane's Addiction will then play a pair of previously-announced festival dates: South Star Music Festival in Huntsville, Alabama, and Evolution Festival in St. Louis. 

Tickets for the co-headlining tour will go on sale May 31 at 10 a.m. local time via Live Nation. An artist pre-sale starts today, May 28, with additional resales taking place throughout the week. Full info is available on Jane's Addiction's website .

While Jane's Addiction have toured regularly over the past decade-and-a-half, it wasn't until 2022 that the group reunited with founding bassist Eric Avery . And though they quickly started playing shows with Avery, the full band reunion was waylaid for a couple more years as guitarist Dave Navarro took an extended hiatus to recover from the effects of long Covid (on recent tours, Navarro was replaced by ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and Queens of the Stone Age's Troy Van Leeuwen).

Finally, last week, the classic Jane's Addiction lineup took the stage together for a show at Bush Hall in London. During the performance, the band debuted a new track, "Imminent Redemption." It marked Jane's Addiction's second new song in the past year after they debuted "True Love" - their first bit of new music in over a decade - at a 2023 show.

The Bush Hall show was also Jane's Addiction's first on the U.K. European tour that will continue through early July.

Classic Jane's Addiction lineup plays first show together in 14 years

Jane's Addiction played an intimate concert at London's Bush Hall on Thursday, which featured the full reunion of the band's classic lineup.

Prior to the performance, frontman Perry Farrell , guitarist Dave Navarro , drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery hadn't shared the stage together in 14 years.

The Jane's Addiction Instagram posted footage from the concert, alongside the caption, "We're back."

It had previously appeared that the classic Jane's lineup would be getting back together when Avery, who left the group in 2010, rejoined in 2022 for a tour with The Smashing Pumpkins . However, Navarro was unable to take part in the tour due to the continued effects of long COVID-19, and had not played live with Jane's since 2021.

Jane's Addiction is currently on a tour of the U.K. and Europe. They'll be back in the U.S. in September to play the South Star and Evolution music festivals.

After reuniting for the first time in 14 years to perform an intimate show in London, JANE'S ADDICTION , with their original band members, and LOVE AND ROCKETS announced they will hit the road for their 2024 co-headline tour. Great bands break rules, but legends write their own. JANE'S ADDICTION formed in 1985 and has written the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience. The band consists of vocalist Perry Farrell , guitarist Dave Navarro , drummer Stephen Perkins , and bassist Eric Avery .

Undoubtedly regarded as one of rock's most influential acts, JANE'S ADDICTION 's first release was the stunning, self-titled live album "Jane's Addiction" (1987),which led to two studio albums, "Nothing Shocking" (1988) and "Ritual De Lo Habitual" (1990). The band's initial farewell tour in 1991 launched the first Lollapalooza which has since become the perennial alternative rock festival.

Navarro rejoined his JANE'S ADDICTION bandmates on May 23 during their intimate concert at London, England's Bush Hall.

JANE'S ADDICTION 's setlist for the Bush Hall gig included a new song called "Imminent Redemption" . Navarro , Farrell , Perkins and bassist Avery – who had left the band in 2010 but returned in 2022 — also played another new track, "True Love" , which they had premiered last year. They also opened with "Kettle Whistle" , marking JANE'S ADDICTION 's first performance of the song with Navarro since 2001.

"True Love" was reportedly written by Farrell , Avery and Perkins , with assistance from touring guitarist Josh Klinghoffer .

Navarro sat out JANE'S ADDICTION 's 2022 and 2023 shows due to his battle with long COVID. He was replaced at last year's gigs by Klinghoffer , a former member of RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS who also records with Eddie Vedder and performs with PEARL JAM . 2022 saw QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE 's Troy Van Leeuwen step in for Navarro .

The fall 2022 "Spirit On Fire" tour marked the first JANE'S ADDICTION run of shows in more than a decade to feature returning Avery . Prior to that, Avery last played with the band for a short stint in the 2000s before departing again in 2010.

In the fall of 2022, Farrell told Alternative Press that it wasn't easy finding a temporary replacement for Navarro . "At first, there was a lot of weight on my shoulders," he said. "This was our return tour right after COVID, and we didn't have Dave . JANE'S is a unique band, and you can't just grab any guitar player and they'll pick it up. That's Dave Navarro we're talking about — those are big shoes to fill."

When it was first announced that Van Leeuwen would fill in for Navarro for the fall 2022 tour, Dave said in a statement: "He is a great guy and I am honored to have him help make this tour happen. Though I am saddened to not make this tour, I am focused on making a full recovery and rejoining the guys when I am able. I truly wish the band well on this tour and I am confident they will bring everything to make it a fabulous show! Go get 'em, guys!"

Named after the underground comic by the Hernandez brothers, LOVE AND ROCKETS made seven records over the course of thirteen years. They announced themselves to the world with their radically unique take on the classic TEMPTATIONS song "Ball Of Confusion" This debut proved that they were going to be a force to contend with. It became a huge seller and a popular club hit in the U.S. and Canada, where it also went gold. It marked the beginning of a career that would span an impressive 14 years and seven albums.

The legacy of the band has only grown with more people realizing the extent of their influence and generations of new fans discovering them. The list of artists who cite their influence is impressive: THE FLAMING LIPS , THE DANDY WARHOLS , A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS , JANE'S ADDICTION , BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB , Beck , Maynard Keenan , DUBFIRE and the PIXIES . December 2023 saw the reissue of their Beggars Banquet catalog with a vinyl box set that sold out almost immediately and each of the label's releases released individually the following year, along with a previously unreleased compilation/companion CD to 1996's "Sweet F.A." titled "My Dark Twin" . In celebration, LOVE AND ROCKETS played a critically hailed and largely sold-out tour.

Jane’s Addiction coming to Petco Park’s Gallagher Square

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Rock fans will be drawn to Petco Park this summer with “Irresistible Force”: Jane’s Addiction will be stopping by as part of their latest headline tour.

Announced on Tuesday, the tour will mark the first time that all four original members of the classic rock band will be hitting the road together in more than a decade — last year, guitarist Dave Navarro sat out of the band’s co-headlining tour with The Smashing Pumpkins.

San Diego’s show on Sunday, Aug. 11 will be the band’s second stop on the 23-city tour alongside Love and Rockets. The Gallagher Square show will come right after opening night at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas on Friday, Aug. 9.

Tickets will be available on Live Nation for artist presales beginning on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with additional presales running throughout the week. General sale will begin on Friday, May 31 at 10 a.m.

Formed in 1985, Jane’s Addiction is regarded as one of the most influential bands in alternative music — so much so that Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine famously said their impact was more notable than that of Nirvana.

The original band members consist of vocalist Perry Farrell, drummer Stephen Perkins, bassist Eric Avery and Navarro. In their first stint together, the quartet released three albums: the live album “Jane’s Addiction,” and studio albums “Nothing’s Shocking” and “Ritual De Lo Habitual.”

Jane’s Addiction released two more studio albums — “Strays” in 2003 and “The Great Escape Artist” in 2011 — with another bassist, Chris Chaney. The band is expected to release another album sometime this year after debuting new material at an intimate show in London last week.

But the Grammy-nominated rock band was most known for their electric live performances. In 1991, their initial farewell tour launched the Chicago music festival Lollapalooza, which has become the perennial alternative rock festival.

Love and Rockets, who is supporting Jane’s Addiction in the upcoming tour, is a lesser-known, but still highly influential underground rock band consisting of former Bauhaus members Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins.

Named after the comic of the same name by the Hernandez Brothers, the band’s music has been cited as an influence for a number of artists like The Flaming Lips, The Dandy Warhols, the Pixies and of course, Jane’s Addiction.

Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro made his grand return to the stage with the iconic alt-rockers last night (May 24th) in London, marking his first live performance with the group since his battle with long COVID.

The group made their first appearance of 2024 at London's Bush Hall venue, performing a 12-song set that mostly pulled from Jane's Addiction's first three albums, but the night likewise pointed towards the future with the live debut of a mountainously groovy new cut called "Imminent Redemption."

The song, which you can see them play in the fan-shot live vid up above, is expected to be part of the band's next album, which would follow 2011's The Great Escape Artist.

As previously reported, Navarro took a hiatus from Jane's in 2022 just before they were set to take on a fall tour opening up for Smashing Pumpkins, citing long COVID complications that he'd been suffering from after coming down with the virus in December of 2021.

The band remained on the road, with former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer acting as their touring guitarist throughout 2022 and 2023. In that time, original bassist Eric Avery also rejoined the group, which also meant that last night's performance was the first Jane's set with their classic lineup since 2010.
