In all honesty, there are countless ways to plan a trip to the North of Norway, and there is really not one 'best' way to do it. In this guide, we share our 14-day Northern Norway itinerary that includes Lofoten Islands, Vesteralen, Senja, and Tromso. This guide is based on our 2-week self-drive road trip in Northern Norway in summer.

Day 1: Lyngen. I don't think anyone should visit Tromsø without seeing the Lyngen Alps, at least if you're able to rent a car for a day or two. I spent two nights at an Aurora Mini Fjord Cabin, about a two hour drive from Tromsø, which made for the perfect base both for exploring the Lyngen Alps and watching for the northern lights at night.

So here is my full two-week itinerary for northern Norway. And if you only have one week you could either just go south from Bodø or north, or start in Narvik if you want more time in the north.
