Queen + Adam Lambert’s 150-minute career-spanning set list celebrates the band’s extraordinary back catalogue, lining up wall-to-wall immortal anthems like “We Will Rock You”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “Radio Ga Ga”, and “Somebody To Love” alongside classic deep cuts and vintage fan favourites. Featuring a dazzling state-of-the-art stage design, incredible special effects and set pieces, this sense-swamping extravaganza has been blowing critics and fans away the world over.

As with last year’s UK and European dates, the 2023 North American tour will see Queen + Adam Lambert supported on stage by their regular band members, long-serving Queen keyboard player and musical director Spike Edney, bass guitarist Neil Fairclough and percussionist Tyler Warren.

Having extensively toured over the last few years, the Rhapsody show is forever evolving. But it remains at heart a tribute to Freddie Mercury’s majestic legacy, a confirmation of Brian and Roger’s undimmed musical prowess, plus a magnificent showcase for Adam’s vocal skills and electrifying stage charisma, all of which adds up to a glorious full-blooded celebration of one of the greatest songbooks in rock history. Read more on the story of The Rhapsody Tour so far, including the special performance opening the Platinum Jubilee concert with the late Queen herself tea cup tapping to the beat of “We Will Rock You” HERE .

TICKETS: Tickets will be available via a general onsale beginning Friday, March 31st at 10AM local time at LiveNation.com .

MORE ON TICKETS:

Queen + Adam Lambert appreciate that it is an enormous task to try and stop scalpers from taking advantage of fans wanting to purchase tickets for the tour. In an effort to help minimize resale and keep ticket prices at face value for fans, the band are collaborating with the venues’ ticketing partners to restrict the ability to transfer tickets for The Rhapsody Tour so that they may only be transferred between fans at the original price.

Fans will still have protection against unforeseen circumstances. Those who purchase tickets and are no longer able to attend their show will be able to sell their tickets at the price they paid using a face value ticket exchange, including the Ticketmaster Face Value Exchange – which is free to use for buyers and sellers. More information on how the Ticketmaster Exchange works is available here .

Unfortunately, the states of NY, IL, and CO have laws in place which protect ticket scalpers – these laws prohibit artists from being able to restrict the transfer of their tickets to face value exchanges only. For shows in these states, Queen + Adam Lambert strongly encourage fans to only buy or sell tickets to one another on face value exchanges. More information can be found here , with more details to follow in the coming weeks.

Queen + Adam Lambert Unveil North American ‘Rhapsody’ Tour Dates: ‘These Are New Glory Days’

Queen Adam Lambert

“These are kind of new glory days for us,” said Queen guitarist and founding member Brian May, who was literally knighted by King Charles III earlier this month. “It’s nice to think that hopefully there will be the demand for that.”

But the guitarist, along with founding drummer Roger Taylor and singer Adam Lambert , was on the other side of the Atlantic in Thursday, in New York to announce the group’s 14-show North American leg of its “Rhapsody” tour — its first since 2019 — which runs from Oct. 4 through Nov. 11.

Popular on Variety

Shows on the overseas “Rhapsody” tour dates featured around 25 songs plus four encore numbers, and included the hits “Killer Queen,” “Fat Bottomed Girls, “Another One Bites the Dust, “We Will Rock You / We Are the Champions” and the song with more than 2 billion Spotify streams that lent its title to a film and this tour, “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Queen promises some deeper cuts on this jaunt. Lambert says, “I’m not sure exactly what we’ll pull out for this one. Look, I would be happy just to show up and do what I was told if that was how it was. But I’ve been really fortunate to work with these two gentlemen who are very collaborative, and we get to all throw ideas in and work things out. I’m really grateful for that it makes me even more invested in it.

It’s been a decade since the group’s first live American concert, though the first time they performed was in 2009 when May and Taylor were guests on the eighth season of “Idol.” May remembers the first actual American concert in Las Vegas in 2013 for the iHeart Music Festival: “It felt so good both internally and from the [crowd] reaction that we thought, ‘My God, this is something we shouldn’t be letting go.’ I think we foresaw some kind of future, didn’t we? But not quite as big as it actually happened. It’s been colossal.”

Lambert agreed, “I don’t think I would have imagined that it would have been the gift that keeps on giving.”

The current Rhapsody tour features Queen + Adam Lambert’s regular band members, longtime keyboard player and musical director Spike Edney, bass guitarist Neil Fairclough and percussionist Tyler Warren. Founding bassist John Deacon left the band and effectively retired from music following Freddie Mercury’s 1991 death, and chose not to be present at Queen’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Despite a 30-year-plus age difference between Lambert, 41, and May, 75 and Taylor, 73, the three have an easy camaraderie that’s evident both onstage and off. Lambert was only three when Queen’s iconic 1985 Live Aid performance rocked the world, but it was something he got to recreate at the Fire Fight fundraiser concert in Sydney, Australia in February 2020, a month before Covid shut down the world.

As a fan growing up, Lambert was familiar with Queen’s Live Aid footage. “But when it came time to first join the band on stage, I was like, ‘I have to know my stuff’ so I watched as much as I could. Besides Live Aid, one of my favorite things was Montreal concert where Freddie was running around in a pair of itty bitty white shorts and no shoes,” Lambert says. “I just I remember seeing that and going ‘This guy’s amazing.’ He was so free and ridiculous and just full of joy and I’ve been so inspired by that spirit. I try to approach shows with that same humor…”

“And shorts?” Taylor quipped.

“Not the shorts for me — Freddie had much better legs,” Lambert concluded.

A general on sale date for the Queen + Adam Lambert U.S. tour is March 31, and in light of exorbitant ticket prices and “dynamic pricing,” the band stated in a release that “In an effort to help minimize resale and keep ticket prices at face value for fans, the band are collaborating with the venues’ ticketing partners to restrict the ability to transfer tickets for the Rhapsody tour so that they may only be transferred between fans at the original price.”

Watch Queen + Adam Lambert Perform an Emotional ‘Is This The World We Created…?’ in New York

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

When Queen + Adam Lambert launched the 2023 leg of their Rhapsody tour last week, they dipped deep into the Queen catalog and resurrected the 1984 deep cut “Is This the World We Created…?” for the first time since Lambert stepped into the role as frontman. The song was written in response to African poverty and was famously played at Live Aid in 1985, but it took on a new meaning at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Thursday night in the aftermath of the massacre in Israel.

The song was played acoustically by Brian May and Lambert on the B-stage, and it brought the arena to a hushed silence. “Oh-oh, is this the world we created?” Lambert sang. “We made it on our own/Is this the world we devastated, right to the bone?/If there’s a God in the sky, looking down/What can he think of what we’ve done/To the world that He created?” They didn’t mention the ongoing situation in Israel, but it wasn’t necessary. Here’s a fan-shot video of the moment.

Grateful Dead Honor Bill Walton: ‘Biggest Deadhead in the World’

Bill walton's long, strange trip with the grateful dead, meet the drummer who spent decades with david gilmour and david crosby — and a day with bowie, how kid rock went from america's favorite hard-partying rock star to a maga mouthpiece.

The rest of the set was devoted to Queen classics like “Killer Queen,” “Somebody to Love,” “Under Pressure,” “I Want to Break Free,” and “Another One Bites The Dust.” For the die-hards in the audience, they broke out “’39” from A Night at the Opera, and the title track to 1984’s A Kind of Magic . The main set wrapped up with “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and they returned for “We Will Rock You,” “Radio Ga Ga” (which also opened the show in truncated form), and the grand finale of “We Are the Champions.”

As always, Lambert took a minute in the middle of the show to acknowledge his incredible fortune and the man who came before him. “Can you guys believe I’ve gotten to tour with these guys for over ten years now?” he said. “Isn’t that crazy? I think this is our third time playing the Garden. I just wanted to say very quickly that every time I take the stage with these extraordinary musicians, I realize how lucky I am, and how honored I am to be singing this music. And just know that very time I take the stage, just like all of you and all of these gentlemen, we all have Freddie Mercury in our hearts. Let’s keep the party going and celebrate Freddie Mercury!”

Almost Perfect

I know I said almost, but this game still deserves 5 stars. The Game has many great songs and is well designed, not to mention the cute characters. Even with all of this, I still have a few problems. These problems aren’t major but they still bother me. The first Problem is That there Is no the miracle album or innuendo available which may not bother Most but it just feels odd that they’re left out. Then there’s the fact that sometimes when a character does their special the screen will freeze for a brief moment while the game continues. Lastly I think the song selection for some of the later tracks aren’t the greatest and Flash Gordon should have gotten it’s on Album instead of being bundled with Hot Space. On the other hand some things that I think could be added to make the game better consists of more songs per album, a co-op mode, a versus mode, and having David Bowie sing when playing under pressure. Do I think these will be added? Probably not, if they intended for these to be added then it would probably be in the game already but The game is still amazing so if you‘re a queen fan then this game is a must buy.

Downloading this was the best decision ever!

Before you stop to think “Oh a mobile rhythm game? That’s not gonna be very good.” Yes, yes it is. This game is AMAZING. As someone who has gotten 3 discs (stars) on every song (easy, medium, hard), this game never gets old. You can collect iconic outfits and learn interesting facts about Queen (I knew em already but maybe you’ll find something new). Plus, Freddie, Brian, Deaky and Roger have never looked cuter! I love the character design, it almost reminds me of Animal Crossing. Anyway, this is an absolute must for any Queen fan, new or old. A 5 star game through and through. The only in-app purchase is an extra outfit for Freddie (I did purchase it), so it’s not pay to play at all. I hope all players love this game as much as I do. Oh and it’s got I’m in Love With my Car as one of the songs (which is a total bonus!)

Excellent game, now do Peter Gabriel pls

I really liked the old school rhythm games of old starting with DDR, Beatmania and Guitar Freaks imports in the late 90s. This is an excellent rhythm game featuring my favorite band of all time. The double purple swipes are incredible at changing the lanes. I love this mechanic, especially when I’m focused on the music and not expecting it. I also love bending the holds, although this doesn’t seem to track accurately all the time (I swear I’m not missing). What I don’t like is the peppering of the purple swipes intermittently and to no affect or justification by the music. They take me out of the rhythm and frustrate more often than not. I’d also love to see the lanes scale to the width of the phone better. I have big fingers and it’s difficult to strike exactly where the game wants me to (I know, git gud). It seems I have more real estate left untapped on my iPhone XR. This was an easy, no-brained purchase after the first trial track and I see myself picking this up in those semi-frequent times where I find myself needing a quick dose of Queen. I’ll take another one. Peter Gabriel please! Look to his Secret World Tour set list for the essentials and build from there. 😉

Queen Elizabeth II's 30 best royal tour moments

Posted: May 27, 2024 | Last updated: May 27, 2024

queen i tour

The late Queen went on countless tours in her lifetime; we look back on some of the most significant ones

The late Queen Elizabeth II arguably broke the mould when it came to royal tours abroad. Though such visits are commonplace among the royal family nowadays, the late monarch was the first Queen to ever travel the world so extensively in an official capacity, thanks to the serious advancements in travel during her reign.

This means that Elizabeth travelled to more countries abroad in an official capacity than any other royal Queen (or King) before her – in fact, it’s reported that the Queen undertook more than 200 royal visits abroad during her 70-year reign, visiting almost all of the countries in the Commonwealth at least once, and many of them numerous times.

To celebrate her many royal visits, we take a look at Queen Elizabeth's best tour moments ever. These are some of the Queen’s best royal tour moments from across the decades.

One of the Queen's best royal tour moments was undoubtedly her biggest tour ever, which took place just a year after becoming monarch.

After her coronation in 1952, the Queen and Prince Philip embarked on a mammoth tour of all of the Commonwealth nations at that time, which took place across six months between November 1953 to May 1954. In that time, the monarch and her husband visited countless different places within the West Indies, Australasia, Asia and Africa, and covered an enormous 44,000 miles travelling.

Her first Commonwealth tour with Philip

One of the Queen's best royal tour moments was undoubtedly her biggest tour ever, which took place just a year after becoming monarch.

After her coronation in 1952, the Queen and Prince Philip embarked on a mammoth tour of all of the Commonwealth nations at that time, which took place across six months between November 1953 to May 1954. In that time, the monarch and her husband visited countless different places within the West Indies, Australasia, Asia and Africa, and covered an enormous 44,000 miles travelling.

The Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth made their final visit to Malta in 2015, and it was a significant trip for lots of different reasons.

The royal couple spent much of their early married life in Malta between 1949 and 1951, as Prince Philip was stationed there in his role as a naval officer. Reportedly, their time in Malta was said to be one of the most 'normal' times of their entire lives. The couple – Philip especially – would go on to visit Malta on official visits numerous times over the following years.

And that’s not all - their 2015 trip to Malta was the Queen and Philip's final official overseas trip as a royal, making it all the more special.

During an earlier trip in 2005, Queen Elizabeth spoke of their joint fondness for Malta in an official speech. She said, "I know I speak for Prince Philip as well as myself in saying how pleased we are to be back in Malta. We both retain a deep affection for your country and the outgoing, generous Maltese people who have always offered us the hand of friendship."

Her final return to Malta with Philip

In 2015, Elizabeth embarked on her final royal tour abroad, returning to Malta with Prince Philip – an island they had both spent lots of time in during their marriage. While this photo looks fairly unremarkable, it's one of our favourite pictures of the late monarchs because of its back story.

At the age of 89, the Queen and 91-year-old Philip spent three days on the island during their final visit, attending the 24th CHOGM meeting – where the Queen delivered a speech praising Malta – and meeting people they had known during their time living there.

The Queen and Prince Philip spent a couple of happy years living in Malta as young newlyweds; Philip was stationed there between 1949 and 1951 as a naval officer, and it’s said to be the place where Elizabeth spent some of the most ‘normal’ years of her life, living simply as husband and wife without the pressure of their royal duties back home in the UK. So it seems very fitting that their final trip abroad together was to the place where they spent so many happy years.

Queen Elizabeth’s 1961 visit to India was a highly significant one, as it was the very first visit from a UK monarch following the end of the rule of the British Empire in the country.

The country gained independence in 1947, but prior to this, Elizabeth’s parents King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother were considered Emperor and Empress of India – titles which ceased to be used following the end of the Empire in India.

As such, Queen Elizabeth’s visit to India in the early 60s was significant, as it was the first time a monarch had visited without being considered as 'head' of the country. Brenden queen earns first cars tour win of 2024 at tri-county, share this article.

queen i tour

Coming off his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at North Wilkesboro Speedway, Brenden Queen returned to victory lane with the zMAX CARS Tour on Saturday at Tri-County Speedway.

Queen dominated the Late Model Stock portion of the SoundGear 225, leading every lap from the pole and holding off Chase Burrow in the closing laps for the victory.

A fourth-place finish in the Truck Series at North Wilkesboro marked a high point for Queen in what has otherwise been a disappointing season at times for the Virginia driver. After winning three of the last four CARS Tour races to close out 2023, Queen has two runner-up finishes and three finishes outside the top 10 with the series this year.

Those disappoints have highly motivated Queen and the Lee Pulliam Performance team to get back to the winner’s circle.

“It’s huge. This team needed it more than anybody knows,” said Queen. “We haven’t won since November, so there was a lot of doubting ourselves, doubting a lot of stuff. I knew Lee [Pulliam] hadn’t forgotten how to work on these things. I knew we had a fast car.

“When you don’t win for a while, you don’t know when it’s going to happen again. The series didn’t get any easier. It’s tough.”

The win also could not come at a better time for “Butterbean.” The next stop for the zMAX CARS Tour is his home track, Langley Speedway in one week’s time.

“Well, I’m excited about Langley, being my home track. It doesn’t get any easier. We’re in the win column, and they can’t take that away from us. It’s a good points night. We’re going to claw back into it one way or another.”

Burrow settled for second place after a hard-fought battle for the lead, holding his head high after a career-best finish with the CARS Tour.

“It’s a group effort, for sure,” said Burrow. “We had a bad fast car. We lacked a little bit, but it is what it is. To come away with a second is awesome. The Sellers group is doing an awesome job.”

Deac McCaskill rounded out the podium, a bounce-back effort of his own for the 2016 series champion. After finishing third in the season opener at Southern National Motorsports Park, McCaskill had not finished better than 16th at Orange County Speedway.

McCaskill had a front row seat for the Queen-Burrow battle.

“That was fun, man,” said McCaskill. “Those last couple of restarts, Butterbean started getting real loose in. Him and Burrow put on a heck of a show. I thought they’d get together and I might be able to slip by both of them.

“We needed a long run to get going. The car would get better, but I just couldn’t run them down. We were just so tight on those restarts.”

JAKE BOLLMAN JOINS LIST OF CARS TOUR WINNERS AT TRI-COUNTY

Jake Bollman joined a growing list of drivers to earn their first zMAX CARS Tour event at Tri-County Speedway by taking the victory in the Pro Late Model feature.

Bollman dominated the second half of the race, finishing ahead of T.J. DeCaire and Spencer Davis for the victory.

The California driver has had pace at times during the season, but the results have not backed up that performance. On Saturday night at Tri-County, Bollman put all the pieces together in the Wilson Motorsports No. 24 to score the win.

“I feel like we came in for practice, and I knew we had a really good car,” said Bollman. “We just focused on running race pace. That was the main thing, having a long race run. We did it tonight. We’ve had a lot of bad luck in the past. It’s good to change it around this weekend.”

On the Late Model Stock side, Tri-County Speedway has been the site of several first time CARS Tour winners, such as Bobby McCarty, Mini Tyrrell, Conner Jones and most recently Landon Huffman. Bollman joined that contingent on the Pro Late Model front with his win.

“It means everything to me. Winning’s everything, right? To make a career in this sport, you have to be good. I have a really good team, hats off to them.”

Another young driver flexing his muscle Saturday was T.J. DeCaire with a second-place finish in the Highlands Motorsports No. 96. DeCaire scored his first top-five finish of the 2024 season, as well as a career-best with the CARS Tour.

“The team’s all put it together,” said DeCaire. “We’re progressing as a team, and that’s what it’s all about. We’re getting better every week. We were good in practice, qualifying was decent and this was our best finish, second place. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and more good finishes.”

Meanwhile, a fierce championship battle between Kaden Honeycutt and Spencer Davis continues. Davis finished third to unofficially take the points lead from Honeycutt, as they entered the evening tied for the points lead.

“Everything matters, right?” said Davis after his podium finish. “I grew up racing without stages and all that fun stuff. When I was growing up racing, each point mattered all year. Even if you wad the thing up, you get back out there. You struggle around, get every point you can get.

“It’s going to be tight. Kaden’s really good. It’s going to be between me and him. I wouldn’t have anyone else I’d rather race against. Kaden’s really strong, a real good competitor and real disciplined. I think it’s going to be a fun year.

“Everybody better be ready for Wilkesboro at the end of the year, because it won’t get easier. I think we took the points lead there, sole possession, finally. With how close it is, it’s going to change week-to-week all year.”

Nick Loden led the first 25 laps after starting on the pole for the Pro Late Model event. However, his race ended after contact with Tristan McKee. The contact sent Loden hard into the outside wall, and ultimately led to further issues for McKee as well.

Loden expressed his frustration with the incident, while McKee considered it a racing incident.

“We’re racing with immature 13-year-olds,” said Loden. “They run out of talent and junk us 30 laps into a race.

“The car was great. We definitely had a car to win. I was just trying not to burn my stuff up. We just got our day ended prematurely.”

“I don’t know, it’s hard to say. We were pretty equal,” said McKee. “I held him up on entry a little bit, and we just got together. It was a racing deal.”

Great bands break rules, but legends write their own. JANE'S ADDICTION formed in 1985 and has written the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience. The band consists of vocalist Perry Farrell , guitarist Dave Navarro , drummer Stephen Perkins , and bassist Eric Avery .

Undoubtedly regarded as one of rock's most influential acts, JANE'S ADDICTION 's first release was the stunning, self-titled live album "Jane's Addiction" (1987),which led to two studio albums, "Nothing Shocking" (1988) and "Ritual De Lo Habitual" (1990). The band's initial farewell tour in 1991 launched the first Lollapalooza which has since become the perennial alternative rock festival.

Navarro rejoined his JANE'S ADDICTION bandmates on May 23 during their intimate concert at London, England's Bush Hall.

JANE'S ADDICTION 's setlist for the Bush Hall gig included a new song called "Imminent Redemption" . Navarro , Farrell , Perkins and bassist Avery – who had left the band in 2010 but returned in 2022 — also played another new track, "True Love" , which they had premiered last year. They also opened with "Kettle Whistle" , marking JANE'S ADDICTION 's first performance of the song with Navarro since 2001.

"True Love" was reportedly written by Farrell , Avery and Perkins , with assistance from touring guitarist Josh Klinghoffer .

Navarro sat out JANE'S ADDICTION 's 2022 and 2023 shows due to his battle with long COVID. He was replaced at last year's gigs by Klinghoffer , a former member of RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS who also records with Eddie Vedder and performs with PEARL JAM . 2022 saw QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE 's Troy Van Leeuwen step in for Navarro .

The fall 2022 "Spirit On Fire" tour marked the first JANE'S ADDICTION run of shows in more than a decade to feature returning Avery . Prior to that, Avery last played with the band for a short stint in the 2000s before departing again in 2010.

In the fall of 2022, Farrell told Alternative Press that it wasn't easy finding a temporary replacement for Navarro . "At first, there was a lot of weight on my shoulders," he said. "This was our return tour right after COVID, and we didn't have Dave . JANE'S is a unique band, and you can't just grab any guitar player and they'll pick it up. That's Dave Navarro we're talking about — those are big shoes to fill."

When it was first announced that Van Leeuwen would fill in for Navarro for the fall 2022 tour, Dave said in a statement: "He is a great guy and I am honored to have him help make this tour happen. Though I am saddened to not make this tour, I am focused on making a full recovery and rejoining the guys when I am able. I truly wish the band well on this tour and I am confident they will bring everything to make it a fabulous show! Go get 'em, guys!"

Named after the underground comic by the Hernandez brothers, LOVE AND ROCKETS made seven records over the course of thirteen years. They announced themselves to the world with their radically unique take on the classic TEMPTATIONS song "Ball Of Confusion" This debut proved that they were going to be a force to contend with. It became a huge seller and a popular club hit in the U.S. and Canada, where it also went gold. It marked the beginning of a career that would span an impressive 14 years and seven albums.

The legacy of the band has only grown with more people realizing the extent of their influence and generations of new fans discovering them. The list of artists who cite their influence is impressive: THE FLAMING LIPS , THE DANDY WARHOLS , A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS , JANE'S ADDICTION , BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB , Beck , Maynard Keenan , DUBFIRE and the PIXIES . December 2023 saw the reissue of their Beggars Banquet catalog with a vinyl box set that sold out almost immediately and each of the label's releases released individually the following year, along with a previously unreleased compilation/companion CD to 1996's "Sweet F.A." titled "My Dark Twin" . In celebration, LOVE AND ROCKETS played a critically hailed and largely sold-out tour.

King Charles and Queen Camilla Tour Chelsea Flower Show, Where Another Family Member Worked on a Display

King Charles and Queen Camilla are stopping to smell the flowers.

The King, 75, and Queen, 76, stepped out at the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show in London on May 20. They were joined by other members of the royal family: Queen Elizabeth 's first cousins the Duke of Gloucester (with his wife, the Duchess of Gloucester) and Prince Michael of Kent (with his wife, Princess Michael).

The group was greeted by Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) President Keith Weed before touring the gardens and viewing the displays, including the "No Adults Allowed Garden," the first display at the show "designed by children for children" by students from Sulivan Primary School.

During the visit, Queen Camilla posed with an unlikely pair: wicker statues of her dogs, Bluebell and Beth! The Jack Russell Terriers, both rescue animals from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home , have accompanied her on royal outings, appeared in official portraits and even got a nod on Queen Camilla's coronation gown , which featured two embroidered gold dogs near the trim of her dress.

The royal also revealed that she's seen Bridgerton .

"I watched the first lot," she said during the outing, according to royal reporter Rebecca English .

In a special touch to this year's visit, it was announced earlier this month that King Charles, a keen gardener himself, was the new patron of the Royal Horticultural Society.

King Charles recently returned a fuller schedule of royal duties , including public outings, amid his cancer treatment . The monarch quipped during a May 9 outing to the Royal School of Military Engineering that he was glad to be "out of my cage."

The Chelsea Flower Show is the start of the summer season of festivities in and around London. Members of the royal family are regular visitors to the annual Chelsea Flower Show, which was established in 1913 and has become one of the world's greatest showcases for horticultural excellence.

This year, Lady Amelia Windsor contributed to her first-ever display at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The granddaughter of the Duke of Kent and second cousin once removed of King Charles, who is currently 43rd in the line of succession to the throne, teamed up with Kent Wildflower Seeds for the garden, which she visited on May 20 sporting a gingham dress and white sneakers.

Kate Middleton , who is currently staying out of the public eye as she undergoes cancer treatment, is also a fan of the event. In 2019, she helped design a "Back to Nature" garden that highlighted the benefits of outdoor play — and her family approved! During a visit with Prince William and their three children — Prince George , Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — the kids had a blast hopping on a rope swing, dipping their toes in a creek and exploring a treehouse.

"In recent years I have focused much of my work on the early years, and how instrumental they are for outcomes later in life," she said in a statement at the time. "I believe that spending time outdoors when we are young can play a role in laying the foundations for children to become happy, healthy adults."

Queen Elizabeth, who died in 2022, also visited her granddaughter-in-law's garden .

"It’s very tidy," the history-making monarch commented.

The concert was filmed during the band’s sold-out 10-day run at The O2 Arena, London in early June. Having been attended by over half a million concertgoers during the 2022 36-date European tour, Queen + Adam Lambert’s “Rhapsody Over London” live concert film is set to reach a worldwide audience of millions more when the experience premieres online on July 24.

The broadcast will give fans around the world one more chance to experience the magic of the Rhapsody Tour. A massive undertaking, utilising 26 cameras and a crew of over 100 film technicians, the production presents the band’s two and half hour show in its entirety. In a dazzling 28-song performance, Queen + Adam Lambert’s live show honours Freddie Mercury’s dictum that “too far is never far enough” with state-of-the-art video content, lasers and pyrotechnics.

Adam Lambert’s vocal prowess and showmanship is a special effect in itself, soaring to the ecstatic high notes of “Somebody to Love”, and appearing on a bejewelled Harley Davidson bike for “Bicycle Race”. But at its heart the Rhapsody show stays a very human honouring of the core band’s work, as Brian May simply strums his acoustic guitar to 20,000 people for his A Night at the Opera gem “‘39”, and duets with film of Freddie on a moving “Love Of My Life”. Roger Taylor performs a majestic “These Are The Days Of Our Lives” as moments from Queen’s history poignantly plays out on the expansive screens.

A full arsenal of hits are refreshed by the band’s live virtuosity, May’s Red Special guitar finding new sorcery in “A Kind of Magic” as well as reaching stratospheric heights in a towering guitar solo. Taylor and Lambert emulate Bowie and Mercury in a thunderous “Under Pressure”. “Bohemian Rhapsody” resurrects Queen’s glorious 1975 harmonies before a cyborg-masked May’s rousing solo, and Lambert’s rush to the front for the storming finale.

The Rolling Stones Really Might Never Stop

During a 19-song set at MetLife Stadium that spanned 60 years, the band tapped into what seems like a bottomless well of rock ’n’ roll energy.

Mick Jagger, dressed in all black with a sequined vest, stands center stage and points out with his left index finger. He is flanked by guitarists Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards, with drummer Steve Jordan behind them all.

By Lindsay Zoladz

Reporting from East Rutherford, N.J.

“This song’s for Manhattan!” Mick Jagger told the crowd on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium, before launching into a punchy rendition of “Shattered,” that agitated ode to late-70s New York City that closes out the band’s 1978 album “Some Girls.” In the ensuing 46 years, the city has changed in some superficial ways but somehow remained essentially the same — much, as they showed throughout an impressively energetic two-hour set, like the Rolling Stones.

The Stones’ first New York-area stadium gig in five years was sponsored, without a hint of irony, by AARP. It was appropriate: At times what transpired onstage felt not just like a rock concert but a display of the evolutionary marvel that is aging in the 21st century. (Albeit aging while wealthy, with every possible technological and medical advantage at one’s disposal. I’ll have whatever vitamins the Stones are taking, please.)

Ronnie Wood, the core group’s baby at age 76, still shreds on the guitar with a grinning, impish verve. Eighty-year-old and eternally cool Keith Richards pairs his bluesy licks with a humble demeanor that seems to say “I can’t believe I’m still here, either.” And then there is Jagger, who turns 81 a few days after the Hackney Diamonds Tour wraps in July. Six decades into his performing career, he is somehow still the indefatigable dynamo he always was, slithering vertically like a charmed snake, chopping the air as if he’s in a kung fu battle against a swarm of unseen mosquitoes, and, when he needs both hands to dance, which is often, nestling the microphone provocatively above the fly of his pants. Sprinting the length of the stage during a rousing “Honky Tonk Women” — the 13th song in the set! — he conjured no other rock star so much as Benjamin Button, as he seemed to become even more energetic as the night went on.

Last year’s “ Hackney Diamonds ” — the Stones’ first album of new material in nearly two decades — was the nominal reason for the tour, but they didn’t linger on it, and the crowd didn’t seem to mind. Across 19 songs, they played only three tunes from the latest release, including two of the best: The taut, growly lead single “Angry” and, for the first part of the encore, the gospel-influenced reverie “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” Mostly it was a kind of truncated greatest hits collection, capturing the band’s long transformation from reverent students of the blues (Richards’ star turn on the tender “You Got the Silver”) to countercultural soothsayers (a singalong-friendly “Sympathy for the Devil”) to corporate rock behemoth (they opened, of course, with “Start Me Up”).

Jagger, Richards and Wood all still emanate a palpable joy for what they are doing onstage. But those joys also feel noticeably personal and siloed, rarely blending to provide much intra-band chemistry. That is likely a preservation strategy — the surest way to keep a well-oiled machine running and to continue sharing the stage with the same people for half a century or more. But when Jagger ended a charming story about a local diner that had named a sandwich after him (“I’ve never had a [expletive] sandwich named after me! I’m very, very proud”), I did not quite buy his assertion that he, Keith and Ronnie were going to go enjoy one together after the show.

Some of that fractured feeling is likely due to the absence of the great Charlie Watts , the band’s longtime drummer who died in 2021; the Hackney Diamonds Tour is the Stones’ first North American stadium tour without him. His replacement, Steve Jordan, does about as good a job as anyone could — like Watts, he balances a rock drummer’s power with a jazzy agility — and his presence never overwhelms. Though they are surrounded by plenty of talented backing musicians, the staging makes it clear that the Rolling Stones are now a trio.

The night’s breakout star, though, was Chanel Haynes, a backing vocalist who took center stage to sing with Jagger during two of the night’s best performances. Haynes — who played Tina Turner in the West End production of the jukebox musical “Tina” before joining the Stones’ touring band in 2023 — ably filled the shoes of the mighty Merry Clayton on a blazing “Gimme Shelter,” and sat in for Lady Gaga on “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” matching the megawatt intensity of her “Hackney Diamonds” cameo. Though Haynes could be velvety soft when the song called for it, at her most impressive she sang with a low, grumbling hunger that often swelled into ferocity, as if she were taking big, meaty bites out of the songs.

Jagger, for his part, delivered many of his lines in his signature bark: The second song, a somewhat slowed down and blues-ified “Get Off of My Cloud,” was transformed by his almost scat-like delivery. But in fleeting moments — including a few falsetto runs — he showed that a certain tenderness in his tone remains intact.

That was most apparent on a gorgeous rendition of “Wild Horses,” the song that gained inclusion in the set by winning the nightly online “fan vote.” For so much of this show, the Stones effectively proved they could outrun age, irrelevancy and all the other indignities that time brings to mere mortals. But here they settled into something more contemplative, elegiac and vulnerable, and the show was better for it.

At a time when their few remaining peers are wrapping farewell tours and bands that have been together for half as long are running on fumes, the Stones are an anomaly. It’s not that their show is devoid of nostalgia, but it’s not coasting on it either. They don’t look like they did in the ’70s — who does? — but when their sound is gelling they are able to tap into some kind of eternal present. For better or worse, they seem intent to be the last band of their generation standing, to ride rock ’n’ roll all the way to its logical endpoint. Astoundingly, they don’t sound like they’ve reached it yet.
