Regina Mall Port Dickson , previously known as Oceanic Mall Port Dickson, is situated at the heart of Port Dickson and is one of the most famous tourists’ attractions over there. The mall has well-known shops such as The Store, Base Hair Studio, and Alpro Pharmacy. You can get everything from groceries to shopping. In short, Regina Mall is considered a shopping paradise. 

The mall’s recent renovation has attracted a lot of customers. Now, it hosts more than 50 events and exhibitions every year. Besides events and shopping, the mall also has many activities to keep visitors occupied. There’s bowling, karaoke, and arcade, and if all these aren’t enough, then the mall also has restaurants to dine in.  

The mall isn’t simply a mall. It provides the best services for its customers and is perfectly safe for children.

6. Discover the Adventure at the Wild West Cowboy Indoor Theme Park

If Extreme Park Port Dickson seems too extreme for you, then Wild West Cowboy is what you need. Wild West Cowboy Indoor Theme Park is an amusement park that offers a video arcade, carousel rides, and a 5D cinema hall. Some of the major attractions include 5D Motion Adventures, 7D Interactive Movie, Amusement Park, Skunk Interactive Show, and Awake Escape Game. 

The park provides engaging games for its visitors. For example, in 5D Motion Adventures, visitors may choose their favourite exciting story and make their way through by experiencing the effects of sound, lighting, wind, rain, and the moving seats, just like being in the movie itself. 

There’s also the amusement park that offers various rides such as Rider Boat, Wild West Desert Explorer, and Cowboy-Go-Round. All these activities are suitable for children and will keep them engaged while the adults enjoy their time in other games.

7. Visit Kota Lukut (Lukut Fort and Museum)

Kota Lukut or Lukut Fort and Museum is one of the historical recreational sites in Negeri Sembilan. It is located 6 kilometres from Port Dickson and is highly admirable for its historical importance. The museum showcases the glorious history of Lukut through its ancient artefacts and monuments.

The fort was built by Raja Jumaat in 1847 but didn’t sustain for long. Again, the building was reconstructed in 1997 and officially launched in 1999. 

Now the museum is maintained by the government, and it also has a park and gazebos. The free entry attracts more visitors to this traditional fort and museum.

8. Fishing in Kota Lukut

Some people want entertainment and electrifying activities on holidays, and then some people want calm and relaxing activities on holidays. For the people who like a bit quiet, fishing is a perfect activity that they can do on holiday. It’s adventurous and fun, and relaxing. 

The most popular fishing area is Kelong Mahmud. Most people rent a boat from Kuala Lukut and reach over there. You can fish as long as they want. After you’re done fishing, you can bring it to one of the seafood restaurants that’ll cook it the way you want. Restaurants charge a small fee for that.

9. Sky Ladder Pineapple Farm

While all the other activities include extreme fun, visiting the Sky Ladder Pineapple Farm can serve to be more educational for you. It’s a pineapple plantation that houses more than sixty thousand pineapple trees, where you can gain a better understanding of the cycle of planting and harvesting. There’s also a corn plantation where visitors can pick and harvest their own corn.

Visitors will not only enjoy learning a bit more about agriculture but will also enjoy the mini animal petting farm. Especially children will enjoy feeding farm animals such as geese, sheep, ducks, and many more. To make the visits more worthwhile, the farm offers ATV and bicycle rides. 

And finally, the reason behind its name, there are decorative ladders leading to the sky, which is also perfect for candid Instagram shots. So, altogether, the visit to Sky Ladder Pineapple Farm is enjoyable, knowledgeable, and entertaining.

For some people, only activities and attractions are not enough. They also need to explore the local cuisine. Innumerable food stalls that sell local snacks are waiting for you. There are restaurants as well that have exquisite seafood. It’s important to energise yourself after a tiring activity.

Things to do in Port Dickson | A Port Dickson itinerary for 2021

From world-class resorts shaped like a dazzling hibiscus flower to undiscovered beaches, mystical temples and even an ostrich farm, Port Dickson is a town with a surprising amount to do, boxing above its weight class on activities in the surrounding area. So, if you are heading to PD (as the town is affectionately known), what are the best things to do in Port Dickson?

About Port Dickson

The town of PD had humble beginnings, first creating charcoal and then becoming a small port used by the British. During the 1820s the town had a bit of a ‘tin rush’ in its Lukut district, ensuring that miners flocked to the town and ensuring that the British started looking more closely at it. The result? The British saw the area’s potential for a large harbour and the area was renamed after the officer in charge of the port’s construction, Dickson.

After some speedy development into a bustling trading post as well as an outpost for the Malaysian army, Port Dickson soon settled into what it is today: a popular tourist destination frequented by locals looking for a break from city life in places like Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Singapore .

When we were exploring Malaysia and jotting down the places we really wanted to go, Port Dickson didn’t make it to the top of the list. Off the beaten track for most international travellers, this seaside city doesn’t usually feature on the must-see roster for foreign visitors. But, with locals flocking to holiday in the town each year, there has to be something to it, right?

• It’s hugely accessible. At only a 90 minute drive out of Kuala Lumpur or Melaka (Malacca), and just 3 hours from neighbouring country, Singapore, it’s an easy place to add to your Malaysia Singapore itinerary .
• It’s affordable. Malaysia, on the whole, is a pretty budget-friendly place to travel as food, transport and accommodation is all easy on the wallet. But we particularly found Port Dickson to be great value for money.
• There is a lot to do! Beyond lazing on the beach or zooming around your resort on an e-bike, there are surprisingly a number of great Port Dickson attractions, many of which we’ve outlined below!

Tanjung Tuan (the Cape Rachado lighthouse)

It’s probably the largest attraction in Port Dickson – Tanjung Tuan (also known as the Cape Rachado Nature Reserve), an 80-hectare reserve which has beaches, hiking, birdwatching and even a historic lighthouse to enjoy!

The lighthouse is probably the crowning glory of the forest reserve. Built back in the 16 th century by the Portuguese, this fully operational lighthouse helps to guide ships to the Port of Malacca. Great for a photo opportunity, it offers sweeping views of the Straits of Malacca and even as far as the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, across the waters.

The reserve is also acclaimed for all the birds, particularly in the migration period between September and March. Avid birdwatchers can see everything from sparrows and swifts to honey buzzards; or even an eagle or two.

Last, but definitely not least, if you take a wander from the lighthouse down to the beach (through the jungle), you should look out for a small footprint embedded in a rock. Legend has it this is the footprint of Hang Tuah, the famous 15 th century Malay warrior, from when he first landed at the reserve.

Malaysia definitely has a number of exquisite temples (our favourite being the Thean Hou temple in nearby Kuala Lumpur ), and Port Dickson is no different. Here you’ll get your temple fix at Wan Loong Chinese Temple (Yun Loon temple), a Chinese temple that is literally translated as ‘Dragon of the Clouds’.

The temple is located on the coastal road and is definitely worth a visit. Here you can see local residents offering up incense, deep in prayer or just wandering the grounds in this small temple. The property looks almost like a fortress and as you take a stroll around, you’ll find statues dotted around, like the statue of historical monk Xuanzang, Sun Wukong (the Monkey God) or Zhu Bajie (Eight Precepts Pig)

As with all visits to religious sites, please dress appropriately and be mindful of making noise.

PD Ostrich Show Farm

We love ostriches, mainly since they were a big part of Lee’s upbringing in South Africa. So, visiting the Ostrich Farm feels like a little bit of home to us, albeit an even more fun experience!

These fluffy (but slightly smelly) creatures make for a great outing, as the Port Dickson Ostrich Show Farm not only has a large farm full of animals but also activities for kids, as well as a petting zoo and pony rides.

The main attraction is the large park which includes the ostriches themselves but also donkeys, guinea fowl, ducks and goats, to name just a few.

If you want to experience a few more activities, the Port Dickson Animal Farm is also paired with a number of other attractions, called the 9 Wonders of PD . Most of these are adjacent to the Ostrich Farm or next to the Aquarium and includes the PD Jungle Park, Ant Planet, Seashell Museum and Dinosaurs in the Jungle.

If the name conjures up visions of beautiful beaches and azure seas, you’ve got it right: Blue Lagoon (also known as Tanjung Biru) is probably the best beach in or near Port Dickson.

Perched about 17 km south of the main Port Dickson town (it’s actually right by the Cape Rachado reserve), this is an exquisite beach which offers you not only great swimming, since the water is quite calm, but also good shady spots considering its buttressed by lush forest vegetation.

It feels like a secluded beach but does have some good amenities, including toilets and food stalls, as well as some great rock pools, so if you’re looking for a top-notch beach experience, Blue Lagoon is definitely your best bet!

Visit the beach

This deserved its only section since Port Dickson is obviously first and foremost a beach resort town, known for its sandy shores. So, it almost goes without saying that the town has a number of top-notch beaches sprinkled across the city and surrounds.

First up is the Blue Lagoon, which we explored above, but even the neighbouring beach, Pantai Cermin is worth a look. This quieter beach is one of the cleanest in the region and while it’s not white sand (the sand is more a burnt orange colour), it’s a lovely place to chill out for the day, sans all the crowds. It’s also directly adjacent (at the eastern end) to Lexis Hibiscus (read more about that in our accommodation section), so you can visit the resort to make use of the water park or even their hawker street called Hibiscus Walk .

You can also add the beach at Tanjung Tuan to your list and visit that as part of your jaunt in the Cape Rachado park.

Further afield is Moonlight Beach (Pantai Purnama) which, as the name suggests, is supposed to be frequented during the late afternoons, or Pantai Cahaya Negeri, which has white sand and crystal-clear water.

Keen to stay closer to town? Teluk Kemang is the most popular beach with lots of water sports on offer (but lots of crowds too) or take a turn at Saujana Beach – a calm beach which is also just opposite the Saturday Night Market, so great if you can plan those two locations together.

Another two for one deal is Kota Lukut, an area about 7km shy of Port Dickson that boasts both a historic fort and a great museum.

The fort itself was constructed in 1847 by Bugis warrior, Raja Jumaat. Jumaat was keen to establish control over the very lucrative tin industry and saw the fort as a way to keep track. Nowadays the fort doesn’t have much left beyond a few walls and a nearby old palace and burial ground.

That said, the actual grounds have been beautifully landscaped to include manicured gardens and gazebos.

At the bottom of the hill is also the Lukut Museum, built between 1997 and 1999. The museum features important pieces that showcase the tin mining history, as well as some interesting artefacts like pieces from an old sunken Dutch battleship.

This is probably one of the top things to do in Port Dickson, particularly if you have even a passing interest in military matters.

Nestled next to a Malaysian army camp, the museum (also known as Muzium Tentera Darat ) has been constructed inside two repurposed army buildings and has nine galleries plus a smattering of cool exhibits outdoors.

Essentially the museum does what it says on the tin: it documents the army through the ages, including from the 16 th century through colonial occupation by the Portuguese, Dutch and British, before exploring the Malaysian army itself.

The outdoor exhibits are what really makes the museum special in that there are a number of army vehicles on display, some of which you can even clamber on (which is great for kids!). This includes an old steam train, helicopters, tanks and other aircraft. One of the key drawcards is also the CPM (Communist Party of Malaysia) Tunnel which is a recreation of the kinds of underground tunnels used during the Malay Emergency – these reminded us of the Cu Chi Tunnels, one of the notable landmarks in Vietnam .

We’re not sure why but 3D art galleries are a huge trend in Malaysia – everywhere we went we found one promoting its wares. And Port Dickson is no different, with a number of these located in the town.

Not sure what a 3D gallery is? Essentially these are interactive galleries with optical illusions, i.e. murals where you pose and seem to be part of a cool theme. They seem to be paired with Upside Down houses which are again photo opportunities where you walk around but photos taken of you make it seem like you are suspended in mid-air, upside down.

The craze is strong in Port Dickson with two leading places to get your silly snaps: Alive 3D Art Gallery and Dream World Upside Down and 3D.

Alive is probably the top-rated with five zones to explore: adventure, animation, aquatic, dark and exotic.

For both, make sure you bring a friend or willing photographer with you since you won’t be able to get those fun photos as a solo visitor.

Rubbing shoulders with the Alive Gallery (it’s actually run by the same company) is the Wild West Cowboy Theme Park. And yes, it’s a theme park dedicated to cowboys (and cowgirls) so an absolutely cracking choice for young kids.

There are rides, 5D (and 7D) motion adventures, heaps of arcade games and even an escape room for those wanting a fun family activity.

The sky is the limit (sorry, terrible pun), at the Telok Kemang Observatory . This modern building is dedicated to astronomy and you can actually peer through one of their telescopes during one of their twice daily guided talks.

Taking places at 3.00pm and 10.30pm, the tours are in Malay but seeing the observatory and also the twinkling night sky is spectacular in any language!

If you’re a fan of astronomy, the observatory also boasts retro telescopes.

Pusat Ikan Hiasan (Aquarium)

While the name itself translated as ‘Ornamental Fish Centre’, this is an aquarium which is home to a number of small tanks and marine life including anemonefish (known as clown fish), stunning seahorses and even some adorable baby turtles. Speaking of turtles, the property is more than just just an aquarium but is a marine conservation centre which helps to promote turtle conservation.

Fort Kempas

It’s a bit of a trek out of time but you could make your way to Keramat Ujung Pasir, a small town boasting Fort Kempas, a 15 th century tomb for Ulama Sheik Ahmad Makhtum. The best part is probably the legendary ‘ancient lie detector’, the ordeal stone where you put your arm through when answering questions. Apparently when you lie, it starts to tighten!

Think you’re an undiscovered star? Well you can grab a microphone at one of the many karaoke complexes in Port Dickson!

The main one is Bintang Family Karaoke . Alternatively, many of the leading resorts like Lexis Hibiscus have their own karaoke options, so you can slink away to your hotel room after belting out those tunes.

Extreme Park Port Dickson

As the name suggests, the Extreme Park is crammed full of extreme activities. You can whizz around in go-karts, zoom past in ATVs (all terrain vehicles), grab a paint ball gun or make like Robin Hood and try your hand at archery.

Sri Anjaneyar Alayam Temple

It’s not the most exciting Port Dickson temple but this small property does have some great sea views. First constructed in 1954, the temple is still worth a quick visit on your way.

Water Parks

Needing more fun activities for the kids (and big kids alike?). There are a number of water parks in the town where you can splash around in the sun on a day out. An easy one to add is probably the Water Park at Lexis Hibiscus, located next to their Hawker Lane and beach.

Where to stay in Port Dickson

There is no doubt that there is really only one place you need to consider when looking for the best Port Dickson hotels: Lexis Hibiscus .

This is more than a resort – it’s practically a national landmark ! The property is unique in that it was constructed in the shape of a hibiscus flower, the national flower of Malaysia.

How to get to Port Dickson

This of course depends on where you are coming from – we’ve outlined the routes from Kuala Lumpur, Melaka (Malacca) and Singapore below. However, on the whole, it’s best to go to Port Dickson via car – either rental car or taxi.

Bus routes can be a little sparse and while there is a train station, it’s no longer operational.

From Kuala Lumpur

Most often you’ll be travelling to PD out of KL. This can be done via bus, but you’ll need to split this up into two journeys: a bus from Kuala Lumpur (TBS or Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) to Seremban, and then another from Seremban to Port Dickson.

It’s probably best to travel by car, in which case the distance is 90 km taking about an hour. Just follow the signs towards Johor Bahru / Malacca on the North-South Expressway until you see the Port Dickson Exit.

It is possible to book a taxi – some operators like Grab will do the journey for you.

From Melaka / Malacca

It’s about 80 km which means, by car or taxi, you’re looking at about 90 minutes drive. The route is mainly from Malacca along Route 5, which is a coastal road.

From Singapore

Again, this is best by car and takes about 3.5-4 hours across 315 km.

You can also take a bus directly, with a number of daily busses departing from Singapore, operated by Golden Coach Express and KKKL Coaches.

How long should I stay in Port Dickson?

While there is a lot to do in Port Dickson, you’ll probably want to spend most of your time at your resort. If you ask us, 3 days would be enough and so you could make a weekend (or long weekend) of it.

We’d suggest tagging it onto a trip to Kuala Lumpur or Melaka.

What are the best things to do in Port Dickson at night?

You can sing karaoke or see the stars at the observatory or even go out for a delicious meal. There is also a night market at Tanjung Tuan to check out.

What is the best Port Dickson beach?

That’s up for interpretation but probably the Blue Lagoon is the best beach to visit in Port Dickson.

I would like to add that PD boasts beautiful sunsets and one of the best ways to watch this is to join the Dickson cruise. During the 3-hour cruise, enjoy the BBQ dinner and spa in the sea!

Another highlight I would like to add is the annual Raptor Watch, happening from late Feb to late April/early May, when thousands of raptors return from the Southern Hemisphere to their breeding homes in China, Russia, Korea, Japan…

Cape Ricardo or Tanjung Tuan is the best location to watch these majestic birds float in from the closest Indonesian islands over the Straits of Malacca. And if you are lucky, as I have, you can experience watching these birds landing on trees at your eye level! Thanks to the fact that when you are up on the cliff (where the lighthouse is situated), you are standing above trees on the sides of the cliff. Amazing experience not to be missed!

There’s also an interactive Raptor Museum nearby. Bird watching is one of the most interesting Nature things to do in PD.

Our Guide to Things to do in Port Dickson Malaysia

Port Dickson is perhaps one of the lesser known tourist destinations in Malaysia. Located about 45 minutes from KL airport, it is a very convenient one! We have been there three times and found it a lovely place to hang out and relax for a few days (especially in a fabulous water chalet at Avillion Port Dickson  or a private pool villa at the Grand Lexis), enjoying what Malaysia has to offer without feeling like we have to rush around like crazy being “good” tourists.

It is a great alternative to Kuala Lumpur for a transit in Malaysia if you would prefer a beach destination to a city.

Port Dickson does, however, have some nice attractions to visit. We found plenty to entertain us for a couple of days. In this guide, you will find our list of what to do in Port Dickson as well as other information to make your visit a success!

6 fun things to do in Port Dickson

Here’s our list of what to do at Port Dickson…

1. Military Museum

Port Dickson Military Museum

Port Dickson is home to a museum for the Malaysian Army and one of the top places to visit in Port Dickson is here. There’s two sides to the museum: the galleries covering the military history of the Malay peninsula and the old military hardware – some of which you can climb on. It’s the armored cars and helicopters that’ll be more engaging to kids.

For the history side there are two buildings and a tunnel covering events and exhibits from early European involvement all the way to UN peacekeeping. The tunnel is a recreation of the ones used by Communist guerrillas during the Malay Emergency. A few rooms just had captions in Bahasa Malaysian but most had English too.

I liked the galleries, as there was a lot to read. This didn’t interest S, who was with me. She was much more interested in the big things, especially ones she could climb on. There was a train, lots of armored cars and jeeps, and some helicopters and planes which were the highlight for S. We comfortably spent a couple of hours here.

I think Mr 3 (who coudn’t join us) would have loved this even more.

The museum is located approximately 500 metres from the traffic lights that are 1.5km south of Avillion. Entry is free.

2. Ostrich Farm

Ostrich Farm

Located in the south of Port Dickson is this surprisingly fun attraction. It is definitely one of our favourite things to do in Port Dickson with kids. While Ostriches are the stars of the show, there is actually quite a lot to do and many animals to see.

There are quite a few ostriches which you can feed (although I’d not recommend that for small kids – they’ve got big beaks) and pet. These birds do get very big – up to three metres tall and 150kg.

The big draw card for our kids was the chance to ride on an ostrich! Anyone under 40kg can have a ride – it costs RM10 for kids and RM15 for an adult. The kids were well looked after with two staff making sure they didn’t fall off and guiding the ostrich around. The rides didn’t go for long but the kids loved them.

What we liked even more were all the other animals – especially the rabbits and guinea pigs. There were horses, donkeys, goats, fish, chickens, turkeys and peacocks as well. Most animals could be fed (you had to buy the feed – RM3 a bag). A few animals ran around outside of the pens or in pens you could go into. You could could get close to most of the animals. Some could even be picked up and patted which S and Z both really enjoyed.

There’s a cafeteria at the farm serving ostrich satay sticks and burgers (“it’s very fresh!” I was told) in addition to more mainstream options. Plus a small playground that had turkeys wandering in it. In addition to the animals, there’s paint balling, archery and horse rides for those too big for an ostrich.

The Ostrich Farm is a well set up destination. The staff were really proactive in encouraging the kids to interact with the animals and help them handle them.  Two hours flew by here. If we didn’t have to get back to our hotel, we could have spent more time.

Entry was RM15 for adults and RM10 for kids.

3. Yun Loon/Wan Loong Chinese Temple

Yun Loon/Wan Loong Chinese Temple

A different Port Dickson attraction is the Yun Loon (a.k.a. Wan Loong) Chinese Temple, a colourful temple located approximately 5km south of  the Avillion Port Dickson . It is not big, but it is richly decorated and makes for an interesting sight.

The big attraction for kids is the small pond and garden where there’s lots of turtles and one large tortoise. The temple’s claim to fame was a giant tortoise who was (apparently) over 100 years old but sadly he died earlier this year (according to reports). It was explained to us that the turtles were thought to bring good luck, as was rubbing their shells, and some people sponsor baby turtles to get good fortune.

The kids loved to pat the turtles and tortoise and watch them go into and out of their shells. They could get right up close and observe although the big tortoise was not fond of the attention. Having never been that close to turtles or a tortoise that big they were really fascinating to watch – even for me.

You can enter the temple and grounds for free. There’s a donation box in the temple itself.

4. Alive 3D Art Gallery

We didn’t have time to visit this place, but one of the popular Port Dickson activities is the Alive 3D Art Gallery. The gallery has around 50 3D/isometric art murals and paintings that let you look like you’re part of the action. It’s not a unique attraction by any means but these types of places can be fun, and if you are looking for an indoor, air-conditioned, activity this could be a good choice.

The Alive 3D Art Gallery is located in Lukut, which is to the north of the Port Dickson area. Consequently it might be hard or expensive to get to without your own car.

One of the beaches near Avillion Port Dickson

The most popular of the Port Dickson things to do is obviously its beaches. These beaches are lovely for relaxing by and great for kids to paddle in the water (there’s no surf and shallow water for up to 50 metres from the edge of the water). These beaches are picturesque and relaxing places and are unsurprisingly popular with Malaysians.

The beach just south of Avillion, Tumasek Beach, has a playground and some facilities like toilets and a place to change as well as food and drink vendors in the car park. You can get a basic but cheap meal in the afternoons/evenings and watch the sun set over the water.

6. Go on a day trip

We loved KL last year

In addition to the places to go in Port Dickson above, one of the best parts about Port Dickson is its proximity to many other places in Malaysia, primarily Kuala Lumpur and Melaka. Melaka is only an hour away and Kuala Lumpur about an hour and a half. It is easy to make a day trip to either of them. You can read more about things to do in Kuala Lumpur here .

Port Dickson with kids

As you can probably tell already, we think Port Dickson is an excellent destination with kids. We visited with our 3 and 5 year old and they had a great time. It was also very easy for us parents with some fun things to do in Port Dickson with kids, the beach and a great resort.

Best hotels in Port Dickson

Avillion Port Dickson

We had a clear favourite resort in Port Dickson – the Avillion Port Dickson. We love the water chalets here and the primary reason we returned to Port Dickson for a second time was to stay here again – these chalets are excellent and work well with kids.

The resort also has great facilities – three pools (including an adults only and a kids option), kids’ playroom, several restaurants, a petting zoo and just beautiful grounds.

Grand Lexis Port Dickson

We then had to return to Port Dickson for a third time when I heard about the Grand Lexis and their villas which weren’t just over the water but also came complete with a private pool! All for a good price as well.

We love this resort. There are some nice facilities but the best part is definitely the over-the-water pool villas. You can see inside our executive pool villa here:

Getting to Port Dickson

There are buses to Port Dickson but we found it easier to take a taxi. A coupon taxi from KLIA2 cost RM94 and took just under an hour. Taxi prices on to Kuala Lumpur varied quite a bit. We found a taxi happy to do it for RM150 including tolls. It took about an hour and a half.

Getting around Port Dickson

Port Dickson is quite spread out and is hard to navigate by foot. Footpaths vary in quality, from non existent to okay. When they do exist it isn’t always for large stretches. Strollers won’t work well here.

To visit the things to do at Port Dickson above you will need to either have your own car or take some taxis. There are limited public buses, and there are just enough taxis to make it a viable option to get around but if you haven’t arranged one (directly or through a hotel) you might need to spend five minutes waiting for one to go by.

That’s if you’re on the coastal road. Roads off this had less taxis. Taxi drivers usually gave a card with their number so it might be a good idea to call one up if you’re off the coastal road and need one.

Port Dickson cabs don’t use meters, instead going off distance. We paid RM 4 for a few kilometres, 10 for up to eight km, and RM 20 for anything over that. Although it sounds dodgy (“No, we don’t use meters in Port Dickson…”) the drivers were reasonably consistent with prices so it didn’t seem like a scam.

Taxis have yellow roofs and a yellow sign on top but otherwise no consistent colour or quality as most are privately run.

If you have your own car, the places we went have ample parking spots. Beaches usually have car parks as well, but these can fill up on weekends.

Our verdict

The pool! In the Grand Lexis over water chalet. We love this place!

We love visiting Port Dickson. It’s a nice, easy place to be where we can relax and unwind.  There are enough activities in Port Dickson to keep us busy for a couple of days, but not so much that we didn’t have plenty of time to relax and enjoy our lovely water chalet.

It’s an especially great place for kids. We find our kids are happier in easier going destinations and the activities at Port Dickson worked well for them. There is a reason we returned for a second time and the fabulous accommodation options ensured we came back for a third!

It is a low key destination though. If you are looking for a beach destination in Malaysia with lots of attractions and more people then I would recommend Langkawi . Port Dickson is a good choice for people wanting an easy weekend break or to fill in a few days while in transit in very affordable luxury.

2. Army Museum

The Army Museum is an interesting place to look back into the military history of Malaysia. There are two blocks of buildings housing four galleries each, taking visitors from era to era. Additionally, you can even spot the presence of decommissioned military vehicles, including planes, tanks, and artillery guns, and a memorial fountain dedicated to soldiers who served through Malaysia’s war history.

3. Wan Loong Chinese Temple

The Best Port Dickson Beach: Everything You Need To Know! [2024]

If you’re looking for a beach holiday then look no further then Port Dickson!  Port Dickson (or PD as it is also known as by the locals) is one of the closest coastal areas to Kuala Lumpur , making it especially popular among people wanting to escape the city.

PD is only about an hour and a half from Kuala Lumpur or even closer from Kuala Lumpur airport, Seremban or Melaka.  This makes PD a very convenient stopover or weekend trip. You can read full details about how to get to Port Dickson from KL here or from Singapore here .

If you’re after the best beach in Port Dickson then there is plenty to choose from as the 18 kilometre coastline is full of them! If you want a private beach Port Dickson offers, then there are even a few resorts that can offer this too – but of course, there are also plenty of public Port Dickson beaches, so you are spoilt for choice.

The great thing about the PD beaches is they are generally clean. In fact, I have seen someone actively cleaning most of the beaches I have visited in Port Dickson. Some of the beaches have facilities like toilets and changing rooms as well as being adjacent to public parks, food stalls and hotels.

To help you find a nice beach in Port Dickson for your trip, I’ve put together this Port Dickson beach review guide.  This guide lists all the beaches in PD in order from the south to the north. I’ve also included a map so you can see which beach is close to your Port Dickson hotel as well as help with Port Dickson beach directions.

As you’ll soon discover, the most popular Port Dickson public beach is Blue Lagoon Port Dickson or Teluk Kemang. Both of these PD beaches are south of Port Dickson town.  However I recommend you keep reading to discover my absolute favourite picks!

Our Choices For The Best Port Dickson Beach, Malaysia! [2024]

Pantai cermin.

Pantai Cermin PD is perfect if you are looking for a quieter beach near Blue Lagoon. It’s located directly behind and close to the jungle at Tanjung Tuan.

This beach PD offers has very orange coloured sand (like popular Teluk Kemang)

Black ore deposits also wash up. It’s a larger beach and the water is clean but it does look murky thanks to a muddy sea bed. It’s one of the cleanest beaches we have visited though.

This beach is meant to be the perfect place to watch a sunrise and it’s a great beach to go to if you want somewhere without the crowds. It’s easy to visit here at the same time as a visit to Blue Lagoon.

The downside is that this best beach Port Dickson offers doesn’t have the shade of Blue Lagoon and so it feels a lot hotter here.

At the eastern end, you end up at the Lexis Hibiscus resort where you can eat at one of their restaurants. The Lexis Hibiscus is recommended for easy access to this beach and also the best stay in Port Dickson!

Tanjung Tuan

Tanjung Tuan is the place to go when you want to get away from the crowds, enjoy nature but don’t necessarily want to go swimming.

This beautiful spot is also known as Cape Rachado and is famous for its historic lighthouse. It is a wildlife reserve centre so it’s far less developed than elsewhere. In fact, you will need to walk here as its surrounded by dense jungle. It’s about a one kilometre hike.

Between the jungle, the white sand and the clear water, this is a truly beautiful spot that you may be lucky enough to have all to yourself. The downside is that swimming is not recommended due to the risk of hurting yourself on sharp rocks.

This is never going to win a prize for the best beach at Port Dickson, but it is a beautiful spot to explore for nature lovers.

For easy access to Tanjung Tuan, stay at Villea Port Dickson by the wildlife reserve entrance and Blue Lagoon Beach. There are many apartments available as well as a large pool to cool down in after your hike.

Blue Lagoon Beach

Blue Lagoon, also called Tanjung Biru, is a very nice public beach in Port Dickson which is popular, but more secluded than other choices thanks to being about 17 kilometres south of Port Dickson town close to the Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve.  This also means that there is often wildlife to spot such as squirrels and monkeys.

This Port Dickson famous beach is a pretty spot with vegetation and forests surrounding it and, despite being busy at times, this is a relaxing spot where it is nice to just be. There are beautiful big trees on the beach so it is naturally shaded as well.

The upside of being a famous beach in Port Dickson means there are good facilities here including toilets, a hawker centre, market stalls and a playground. It’s easy to spend an entire day here although it’s not the cleanest beach in Port Dickson, and it does tend to have more trash than many other beaches on this list.

The Blue Lagoon Beach Port Dickson offers is especially good for families or non-swimmers thanks to its calm and shallow waters. Sandbanks protect Blue Lagoon from currents and strong tides.

This also means water sports are kept away from the shore and you don’t need to worry about motorboats and jet skis taking over the sea. At low tide, many rock pools are revealed which kids will love.

For an even better experience at Blue Lagoon, stay by the beach! Villea Port Dickson is a great option with hotel style rooms and apartments right by the beach.

For a better quality resort, the Lexis Hibiscus is close by too.

Pantai Purnama

Pantai Purnama (Moonlight Beach) is a small beach option just before Teluk Kemang as you head north. We visited here when the tide was in so there may be more beach when you visit!

This Port Dickson clean beach is more out of the way than some of the others listed here even though it is just off the main road. It’s meant to be popular in the evenings but we found it a pretty spot during the day with no trash, bathrooms and a restaurant right there. There were some big clumps of seaweed in the water though.

If you’re wanting to have a Port Dickson picnic then you’ll appreciate how there are small gazebos here where you can rest and enjoy the sea while having something to eat.

To be close to this beach, consider staying at the Klana Beach Resort which is pictured in the photo above to the left. You can easily access both this beach and Teluk Kemang from here and there is even an observatory on site!

Teluk Kemang

Teluk Kemang is between the 7th and 8th mile from Port Dickson town and is the largest and most popular Port Dickson beach in Malaysia which is both good and bad. This is the place to go if you want atmosphere, shops and water sports. There’s also a lot of great food.

There are a lot of hotels and apartments along this Port Dickson beach, Teluk Kemang is a convenient place to stay for beach access. There are many facilities including multiple car parks, paths, toilets, showers, change rooms, prayer rooms, shops, food stalls and restaurants. There is also a large square with activities.

There are many water sports and this can mean its harder to swim in the sea, and the area can be loud. You can also rent a gazebo if you’re wanting some shelter or somewhere for a picnic at Port Dickson. It does, however, get crowded on weekends and holiday periods.

Unfortunately, I don’t recommend this beach for swimmers which is a shame as it is a pretty and clean beach. This beach is strictly for people who want water sports and/or action and atmosphere.

The sand can be an orange colour and the sea can become rough. There are often kids activities set up like pony riding and bouncy castles at busy times.

I visited on a weekday when the beach was relatively dead. However, there was still a lot going on on the beach. I found the attention from the males selling water activities uncomfortable and would not visit alone at a non-busy time again.

For easy access to this public beach, Port Dickson offers, stay at Ancasa Residences where there are roomy apartments and a large pool.

Pantai Cahaya Negeri

Pantai Cahaya Negeri or Cahaya Negeri Beach, Port Dickson is maybe Port Dickson’s best beach. It has a great expanse of beautiful white sand and the water is clean. This means the beach gets crowded at holiday periods.

There is a recreational park and a cool bridge (called “Lovers Bridge”) over the water which takes you to a mangrove island (pictured above). This is a great place to take some awesome holiday snaps and just enjoy walking around.

There are toilets and many picnic tables in a nice park area next to the bridge making it a great Port Dickson beach Malaysia for a picnic. There is, however, a lack of other facilities. You can eat in a food court opposite Bayu Beach Resort or keep walking up to nearby Pantai Saujana.

Cahaya Negeri beach Port Dickson is one of our favourites. We recommend a visit, even to just walk across the beach, see mangroves and take some photos.

Stay at Bayu Beach Resort right by the beach. There is a great pool, and it’s convenient to eating options.

Pantai Saujana/Saujana Beach

Saujana Beach, Port Dickson is about a kilometre long. This Port Dickson beach location is a few miles from Port Dickson town starting at the Avillion Port Dickson. It’s right next to this lovely resort, and there is a playground, changing rooms, toilets and food and drink vendors.

The main entrance is opposite the Saturday Night Market and it’s easy to access this beach. Pantai Saujana Port Dickson is especially popular in the late afternoons. There are restaurants and plenty of parking.

It’s a calm, clean beach in Port Dickson. The sand is soft and powdery. Despite the central location, it’s usually quite peaceful, and there is plenty of space. Water skis and banana boats are available, but they don’t take over the beach.

It is definitely one of our top picks for the best beach in PD.

Avillion Port Dickson is one of our personal favourites in Port Dickson with gorgeous, well priced, over water chalets and is located on one end of this beach.

Pantai Bagan Pinang

Pantai Bagan Pinang is another powdery white sand beach to visit in Port Dickson. There is more trash than I am used to seeing on beaches on this list but then I wonder if I went at a bad time as I have heard many others say it’s trash free.

There is a small part of this beach next to the Avillion then some rocks and then a bigger stretch. If you start at the smaller part, where there is a playground, I recommend walking to the bigger stretch which is nicer and wider.

This Port Dickson nice beach has lots of eating options nearby as well as picnic tables, toilets and showers.

You can also rent beach and water equipment on weekends and there are some activities like banana boats. This beach can be a good balance between activity and taking it easy.

Avillion Port Dickson is also located on one end of this beach. We highly recommend it!

Pantai Tanjung Gemok

Also known as Glory Beach after the Glory Beach Resort that sits on its shores, Pantai Tanjung Gemok is perhaps the best option north of Port Dickson town.

It’s a quieter option of the beaches listed here, and the water is generally calm although it can get busy at holiday time. There is a nice paved pathway along the beach complete with a playground. This beach is nice enough for a swim if you are staying in the area but there’s nothing really special about it either.

There is a small turtle hatchery managed by Glory Beach Resort which is worth a visit if you can.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a good photo of this beach but you can get an idea of what it is like from the photo above from the Glory Beach Resort.

Stay at Glory Beach Resort right on the beach. It has some great facilities including the turtle hatchery.

There is also the Lexis hotel at the northern end of the beach.

So What Is The Best Port Dickson Beach?

Honestly, I have a few favourites – but overall it really depends on what you are after!

If you want the prettiest beach, my choice for this is Blue Lagoon ( full info here! ).

If you want a more interesting stop, I recommend Pantai Cahaya Negeri. We like being able to walk over the bridge and among the mangroves and it makes a beach visit more interesting.

If you want a fun beach in the early evenings, I recommend Pantai Saujana especially on Saturday nights for the night market.

If you want water sport action, try Teluk Kemang.

Otherwise, just go to the beach most convenient. You’ll have a great time!

1. pd ostrich show farm.

How amazing it is to be surrounded by ostriches at PD Ostrich Show Farm!

This is truly a fun place to visit in Port Dickson which is filled with many activities suitable for kids. Be it ostrich feeding or ostrich riding, the little ones will get really excited in it!

Besides ostriches, the farm also boasts many farm animals such as turkeys, ponies, ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits and hedgehogs.

2. Kota Lukut & Muzium Lukut

One of the most significant historical sites in Port Dickson – Kota Lukut and Muzium Lukut are built to preserve the Lukut’s history and the cultures of Minangkabau Tribe.

This Port Dickson tourist attraction is situated on the peak of Gajah Mati Hill. Here, you can explore the historical ruins such as the fort’s pinnacle. You also get to enjoy the amazing view of Lukut town from above.

While for Muzium Lukut, there are many artifacts, photographs, and illustrations for you to learn about the transformation and development of Lukut.

Both of the attractions are very near to each other.

3. Pusat Ikan Hiasan Teluk Kemang

Another interesting place to visit in Port Dickson definitely goes to Pusat Ikan Hiasan Teluk Kemang!

Literally translated as the Ornamental Fish Centre, this attraction is actually an aquarium that conserves the marine creatures. It is also a marine research centre as well as an incubator of marine life.

At the entrance, you will see a turtle nursery filled with different species of turtle hatchlings and juveniles.

Inside, you will be amazed by the wonderful collection of marine life such as stonefish, sea horses and eel . You can even find the lovely Dory fish and Nemo here!

4. Pantai Cahaya Negeri

If you are looking for a beautiful yet clean beach in Port Dickson, I would say Pantai Cahaya Negeri is the best among all. The famous annual Festival Pantai is held here too!

Around this Port Dickson attractions are the collection of quality resorts and hotels lining along the coastal area.

Here, you don’t need to worry about the parking because the place is big and boasts ample parking space.

This beach is claimed as the best beach in Port Dickson for its serenity and comprehensive public facilities. The water is quite clean and you can have a picnic at the beach too!

A little drawback is, there are fewer eateries around.

5. PD Dream World Upside Down & 3D

PD Dream World Upside Down & 3D definitely the must-visit Port Dickson attractions if you have younger kids! It is also a great place to beat the afternoon heat and take some decent pictures.

The amazing world sits in a 2-storey shophouse where the ground floor offers you upside down fun and the first floor serves as the 3D art studio . You can also interact with the 5D bears and dinosaurs .

The staff will be very helpful to take the pictures for you and teach you the pose. Make sure you charge your camera’s battery before you come!

6. Teluk Kemang Beach

Welcome to Teluk Kemang Beach – the busiest and most popular Port Dickson’s attraction!  From day to night, the beach is busy with different kinds of activities which you will never get bored!

On the beach, there are many food stalls, street markets and restaurants to fill your tummy full.

If you stay near to the beach, you can enjoy swimming in the sea early in the morning when the weather is cool.

For water activities, the beach offers banana boat, jet skiing, beach buggy ride, and canoeing . All these activities are great for bonding time with families.

7. Wan Loong Chinese Temple

To make your trip in Port Dickson colourful, visit the Wan Loong Chinese temple which literally means “ The Dragon of The Clouds ”.

Built to pay homage to the Chinese deities – Goddess of Mercy and Monkey King, this temple boasts an elegant fortress wall and unique temple architecture. Best to take photos here.

Inside, there are a garden and a small pond where you can find tortoise and turtles which believed to bring you good luck if you rub their shells!

Even though the temple is free to enter, you can also donate some money to them at the donation box.

8. Army Museum Port Dickson

Army Museum Port Dickson is yet another major Port Dickson attraction place. This museum comprises of 2 different areas – the gallery and the models of the old military .

The gallery presents you the military history of Malaysia. Lots of information are provided to help you gain insights with.

For the military model area, they present you different kinds of armoured cars, helicopters, jeeps, and trains which are specially designed for the military purpose. You can climb on some of them to take pictures!

Last but not least, don’t miss out to visit the communist tunnel which was once used by the communist during the Malaya’s emergency period!

9. Cape Rachado Lighthouse, Tanjung Tuan

Located on the hill of Tanjung Tuan, Cape Rachado Lighthouse is yet another famous Port Dickson attractions which is located 18km away from the township of Port Dickson.

Hidden beaches, mangrove swamps, wildlife sanctuary and forest reserve, everything about nature can be viewed from the lighthouse.

For bird lovers, this attraction also serves as the perfect bird watching spot during the bird migratory season.

If you wish to stay here, there is a hotel located at the foothill. Otherwise, you can consider camping here to stay overnight.

Remember that you can trek through the jungle and slope down the hills to get to the secluded beach!

10. Tanjung Gemuk Beach (500m)

Tanjung Gemuk Beach – a quiet, calm beach at the northern part of Port Dickson is where you can really unwind.

Even though the beach is very near to the power station, there is no sign of water pollution. The water is still clear.

Sometimes, you will find the children swimming and enjoying themselves in the water. It is best to have some personal time here.

11. Bagan Pinang Beach

Featuring wide expanse of clean sand, the Bagan Pinang Beach is yet another Port Dickson attraction place which has a relatively gentle sea.

The water is very shallow during the low tide too. During this hour, you can see the local fishermen collecting crabs and clams at the shore.

Here, you find less water activities and the activities here are more to relaxation. For instance, there are picnic tables for picnics and paved walkways for jogging.

12. Wild West Cowboy Indoor Theme Park

Port Dickson isn’t just about the sea and the sun! Let’s spend some time to be a cowboy at Wild West Cowboy Indoor Theme Park!

Suitable for families with little ones, the park offers many interactive games and themed shows. The kids will definitely have a fun time here.

There is no entrance fee and the prices are charged per game. However, they also offer 1-day pass to access all features for unlimited time.

Before leaving, you can buy some souvenirs and related snacks home to keep them as a memory!

13. Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve

Perfect for adventurous people who love hiking, Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve is your ideal Port Dickson attraction which boasts several hiking trails which are quite easy to trek.

On the top of the forest reserve sits the Cape Rachado Lighthouse which is closed to the public. There is also a route leading you the way to see the migratory birds.

At the hilltop, you will be rewarded with birds eye view of the Straits of Malacca. And from the top, there is also a trail that leads you to a secluded beach. You can have a rest here before going back.

14. Saujana Beach

Camping, jet skiing, and banana boats can all be enjoyed at this Port Dickson tourist attraction – Saujana Beach!

This 1 km stretch nature beauty is not so crowded with people. So, if you want to enjoy water activities in a more serene environment, Saujana Beach is ideal for you.

Food stalls, shower facilities, and toiles are all available. On Saturday night, there’s even a night market opposite to the beach!

15. Sungai Menyala Edu-Ecotourism Center

One of the best natural attractions in Port Dickson – Sungai Menyala Edu-Ecotourism Centre offers you a short getaway into the untouched rainforests.

Opened in 2010, there are 3 significant trails in this forest reserve. You can discover plethora species of flora here.

Along the way, challenge yourself to spot the 300-year-old hollow tree and Jelutong Tree which is said to be the tallest one in Malaysia!

At the information centre, you will find a gallery presenting your lifestyle of Orang Asli.

If you wish to stay overnight, they have double rooms and dormitories for you.

16. Port Dickson Golf & Country Club

For golf enthusiasts, you can stay at Port Dickson Golf & Country Club and wake up to the 18-hole golf course in the morning!

This modern observatory sits right beside the Straits of Melaka, offering an expansive view and serves as the perfect backdrop for stargazing.

Every year, the astrologists are here to decide the important dates in the Muslim calendar, using the special equipment.

At night, you can view at the galaxy under the full guidance of their staff if the weather is favourable. It is truly a wonderful experience to examine the starry nights using telescopes.

18. Alive 3D Art Gallery

Alive 3D Art Gallery serves as an exciting Port Dickson attraction too. As the name suggests, all arts here appear to be 3D and it makes you feel like you are right inside the world of that particular art!

In total, there are 50 3D arts that spread across 5 zones, namely Dark Zone, Animation Zone, Adventure Zone, Exotic Zone, and Aquarium Zone.

The art gallery also claimed to be the first who offers 3D Dark Art in Malaysia.

Just take much pictures you want inside the gallery. The staff can assist you with the pose too. You can also buy some souvenirs at their shops after you have done with the photo session.

Home to breathtaking scenery and exciting attractions, PD Waterfront will leave you a great memory in Port Dickson!

Whether you want to relax by the sea or indulge in shopping, this place has it all.

20. Blue Lagoon Port Dickson

Blue Lagoon is a beautiful coastal attraction in Port Dickson which is enveloped within the bay before the Cape Rachado.

Here, you can enjoy the tranquillity of nature which is somehow missing in other beaches in Port Dickson. Covered by dense rainforest, you experience a complete nature getaway here.

As the place is close to the forest reserve, you will see various of wildlife here such as monkeys, squirrels, and migratory bird.

21. Tetikus Toys House

Tetikus Toys Horse is the family-friendly places to visit in Port Dickson!

You can keep your children energized and excited here. There are wide collections of children’s all-time favourite toys where little ones can play with!

You can also purchase some of the toys and bring them home! However, always ask the staff for assistance as there are some toys which are not for sale.

Though a visa is not required, you’ll still need to have a passport with at least 6-month validity, ticket for a return flight, and proof of funds and accommodation prior to making your trip. Upon arrival in Thailand, you’ll receive a Visa Exemption stamp in your passport if all these are in order.

For longer stays beyond the Visa Exemption period, the Thailand government allows the extension of visa-free travels from 30 to 60 days for 93 countries, including Malaysia.

To apply, visit a local Thai Embassy or Consulate in Malaysia, which can be found in KL, Penang, and Kota Bharu. Alternatively, you can head to an Immigration Bureau office in Thailand, located at popular destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket.

There are two kinds of Tourist Visas (TR): Single Entry with 3-month validity, and Multiple Entry with 1-year validity that’s also called a Non-Immigrant Visa for Long Stay.

To apply for these TRs, you’ll need to bring along the following documents on your visit to the Thai Embassy:

• Valid passport with at least 6-month validity and 2 blank visa pages
• Completed application form with 2 passport-size photos
• Round-trip transport ticket, or vehicle registration and driving license for travel by land
• Proof of financial means and accommodation booking

For Multiple-Entry visas, you’ll also need to provide proof of permanent residency in Malaysia, bank statement, medical certificate, certified criminal record, and health insurance.

What is the minimum cash requirement for Malaysians to enter Thailand?

You’re likely already planning a trip to a local money changer to get baht notes to splurge during your trip in Thailand. But you’ll also want to take note of the minimum cash requirement for all foreign travellers to Thailand, regardless of origin.

Recently, the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok issued an advisory for tourists to carry adequate cash for the duration of their stay in Thailand. While this is not new rule, it’s a good reminder that the Thai authorities conduct checks at random and have the right to refuse entry to tourists who cannot show proof of this.

According to the Royal Thai Embassy website , travellers entering the country on a Visa Exemption status must carry at least THB20,000 (~RM2,573) per person or THB40,000 (~RM5,147) per family.

Do I need to fill out a T.M.6 form?

If you’ve travelled to Thailand before, whether by land or by air, you might recall filling up a T.M.6 Immigration Form , otherwise known as Tor Mor 6. The mandatory form must be filled and shown at Thailand checkpoints.

The form is split into two parts – arrival and departure. Key details such as personal information, flight or vehicle number, and purpose of visit must be included on it.

You’ll need to keep the form safe too, as it’ll be returned to you after immigration checks and used again upon departure from Thailand. Failure to show it at checkpoints can result in hefty fines by Thai authorities.

On 9th April, it was announced that Malaysians travelling to Thailand via land by private vehicle can temporarily skip filling up the T.M.6 form, as shared by Thai Prime Minister in a statement. The temporary suspension of T.M.6 for motorists is between 15th April and  15th October 2024 .

Are there any Covid-19 entry requirements?

With the surge of Covid-19 cases now behind us, Thailand no longer requires tourists to provide Covid-19 related documents such as Covid-19 vaccination certification, test results, or insurance coverage upon arrival since 1st October 2022.

That being said, foreign travellers need not apply for Thailand Pass or Certificate of Entry (COE) either. This was previously a must for arrivals in Thailand to help ease travel during the pandemic, which required info such as proof of vaccination and insurance.

How to get a special border pass in Malaysia?

Malaysians also have the option to apply for a border pass . This pass is issued to Malaysian citizens who were born or have been residing for more than one year in Perlis, Kelantan, Kedah, and the Hulu Perak District , as validated by the address on their Identity Card.

For the uninitiated, the purpose of this border pass is to allow for ease of travel from border states to southern Thailand, specifically Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, and Satun Province. It has a 1-year validity period from the date of issue, and permits multiple entries.

There are 8 main overland border crossings between Malaysia and Thailand:

• Wang Kelian, Perlis – Wang Prachan
• Padang Besar, Perlis – Padang Besa
• Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah – Sadao
• Kota Putra, Terengganu – Ban Prakob
• Pengkalan Hulu, Hulu Perak District – Betong
• Bukit Bunga, Kelantan – Buket
• Rantau Panjang, Kelantan – Sungai Kolok
• Pengkalan Kubor, Kelantan – Tak Bai

The following documents are required to apply for the border pass:

• Two passport-size photos on white background
• Application form
• Proof of residence in the eligible states
• Birth certificate and parental consent Form A1/B1, if under 12 years old

There’s also a small application fee of RM10 . For more detailed information on the required documentation for specific applicants, you can refer to the Government of Malaysia’s official website .

You can head to any Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia (JIM) or UTC branch to apply for the pass.

When it comes to getting to Thailand from Malaysia, you can opt to travel by land or by air. While hopping on a flight is the most convenient and reliable way to travel to Thailand, there are other ways to get there too.

For those who appreciate slow travels, start your journey to Thailand in KL via train. While there’s no direct train from KL to Thailand, the most convenient option is to take the KTM train from KL Sentral, KL, to Padang Besar, Perlis , which typically takes around 6 hours.

The cost for a train ticket to Padang Besar is approximately RM80 per adult.

From Padang Besar, you’ll need to queue up at the immigration checkpoint to validate your passport. The procedure involves unloading your luggage and belongings for inspection by the Immigration and Customs Department, which typically takes around 10 minutes.

However, the wait time in line can vary, depending on the time of year you travel. Plan for about an hour for this process, and ensure you have your passport and necessary travel documents ready.

Once you’re through the immigration checkpoint, hop on the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) train that’ll take you to Hat Yai. This 1-hour train rides costs around RM9 per adult.

On another note, KTMB recently introduced a limited-schedule train MySawasdee , featuring standard carriage seats priced at RM95 per adult.

If air travel is your preferred mode of travel, there are multiple direct and daily flights from KLIA, Senai Airport, and Penang International Airport to Thailand. A one-way ticket typically costs around RM300 per traveller , depending on when you travel and which airlines you opt for – Malaysian Airlines, AirAsia, and Thai Airways are some popular ones.

There are several bus services available from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS), a central bus terminal, in KL.

Alisan Golden Coach Express takes passengers here to Danok, Hat Yai, Bukit Hitam, and Changloon, while Suasana Tony Coach takes passengers from TBS, as well as Kajang Bus Terminal, Klang Sentral, Hentian Duta, and Seremban, to Hat Yai.

The bus journey typically lasts between 7 to 18 hours , depending on the number of stops along the way from KL to Thailand. Likewise, tickets are typically priced around RM80/pax, depending on your seating preference and bus service.

If you want to travel around Thailand in the comfort of your own vehicle, you can opt to hit the road and travel to Thailand overland via car or motorcycle.

One popular route starts from KL to Hat Yai via the Bukit Kayu Hitam/Sadao border crossing, which takes approximately 5 hours. The second option begins in Penang and ends in Phuket via the Bukit Kayu Hitam-Sadao and Wang Kelian-Wang Prachan border crossings. Prepare for a journey of over a thousand kilometres on the latter, which typically takes around 19 hours.

Before you start your journey, you’ll need to have the following documents:

• Valid passport with at least 6-month validity
• Valid Malaysia-issued driver’s license, recognised in Thailand
• TM.3 passenger list form , if you’re driving with passengers
• Vehicle registration card and insurance
• Letter of Authorisation (LOA), if the vehicle is not registered under your name
• Physical road tax, recommended

Car insurance is essential and typically costs around RM1,000.
