Nunda River Lodge, situated in the Kavango east region of Namibia, is an experience seldom encountered in the Southern African continent with its homely relaxed atmosphere enhanced with a true African wildlife experience. Nunda, the local Thimbukushu name given to the fruit of the Jackalberry tree, is situated on the Okavango River in the homeland of the Hambukushu tribe. Nunda River Lodge is centrally situated as a destination in itself. Spend at least two days or more exploring the region before travelling on to the Okavango Delta, Etosha Pans, Zambia or Victoria Falls. Excellent birding, magical wildlife encounters coupled with great fishing opportunities as well as diverse cultural experiences will only make you want to return.  

We are fully licensed, sporting a fine wine selection and offering a 3 course dinner, breakfast and small meals throughout the day.

Nunda River Lodge, situated in the Kavango east region of Namibia, is an experience seldom encountered in the Southern African continent with its homely relaxed atmosphere enhanced with a true African wildlife experience. The Kavango – Zambezi region (formerly call the Caprivi Strip) is a narrow strip of land in the far north eastern region of Namibia. Approximately 400 km long bordering Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana, the region is also incorporated into the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area. It falls within the tropical climate zone and receives the highest rainfall figures in Namibia, mainly between December and March.

The ablutions, with indoor gardens, are immaculate and spacious true to your own home comforts. All sites are in close proximity to the river and purified drinking water is also available.

Nunda River Lodge (sometimes referred to as Nunda Safari Lodge) opened in May 2008 in Namibia's Caprivi Strip, ...

• Eight spacious bungalows are set under a shady canopy of trees, each with a thatched roof and a private, covered deck or patio overlooking the Kavango River. One of the bungalows has four beds, so would suit a family, and some of the en-suite bathrooms feature a bath as well as a shower.
• Seven twin-bedded Meru tents are raised off the ground on wooden decks. Like the bungalows, these too have plenty of tree shade and a private deck or patio overlooking the river.
• Four smaller chalets are set further back in the grounds from the tents and bungalows, and have no river views.

Nunda River Lodge is a comfortable, friendly base to explore this central part of the Caprivi – in particular Mahango National Park and Popa Falls. It’s also a short drive to the Botswana border crossing at Mahembo, so it makes a good stopover on the way towards Botswana’s Panhandle.

Nunda Lodge consists of 7 large en-suite luxury tents (double bed Meru style tents), 8 river facing en-suite bungalows and 4 non-river facing  en-suite chalets.

Visitors will find a restaurant, bar, lounge, wine cellar and reception area all under thatched roof as well as a deck over the river where sundowners can be enjoyed in great atmosphere. A sparkling swimming pool is available for hot Namibia summer days.

Nunda Lodge will gladly welcome the camping enthusiast as well. 9 grassed and shaded camping sites are available. All campsites are on or close to the river and have a braai area, electrical and water points.

Nunda River Lodge is in close proximity of two fascinating game parks: The Buffalo Park (Buffalo Core area of the Bwabwata National Park) and the Mahangu Game Reserve, both home to a great number of wild animals. Magical wildlife encounters are guaranteed. Furthermore there are excellent birding and fishing opportunities at Nunda Lodge. Guests can also take part in diverse cultural experiences.

Nunda River Lodge

Situated in the verdant region of Caprivi, seven furnished Meru tents, eight bungalows and four traditional thatched chalets sit along the river bank surrounded by shady trees and manicured gardens.

With camping and bungalow accommodation to choose from, each with open bathrooms and a deck overlooking the river, Nunda Lodge is conveniently placed to ease your weary limbs on-route to you next destination.

The central location is an ideal base from which to explore the Popa Falls and the Mahango National Park with ample game drives, cruises and village trips to relax and infuse your cultural experiences. This lodge is also very close to the border with Botswana.

The lodge services basic amenities and a nice pool overlooking the river where you can wallow like a hippo before heading off for a sundowner the deck extending into the river or a chilled nap in your secluded tent.

Dining is a Namibian affair with cultural cuisine and wines straight from the cellar, followed by a night-cap in the bar swapping stories with fellow travellers before heading off to bed with your sleep punctuated by the sounds of grunting hippo.

Daily game drives to the Mahango or Bwabwato National Park in open safari vehicles allow uninterrupted viewing of local species such as the rare African wild dog, leopard, lion and grazing antelope to mention a few.
