What We Love About Norwegian Cruise Line Prima Class Ships

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Prima Class of cruise ships launched in 2022 with the debut of Norwegian Prima .

Distinguished by a more intimate size with all the signature dining, entertainment and top-deck attractions, Norwegian Viva joined its nearly identical sister in August 2023. Here’s why Prima Class is one of our favorite classes of ships, across the board.

With four more Prima Class ships expected by 2027, cruise fans might be wondering what it is about this class of ships that set them apart from the rest of the Norwegian fleet. Here’s what impressed me the most.

Norwegian Prima Class Favorites

Indulge food hall.

Why pick one type of cuisine when you can sample a half-dozen in one sitting? And why shell out for all of these tasty plates when you can order them for free?

Cruisers who are indecisive or adventurous eaters will especially love the Indulge Food Hall, new to Norwegian’s Prima Class. Indulge Food Hall offers the atmosphere of a food truck court with the convenience of indoor/outdoor seating and streamlined tablet ordering.

Though you can place your order from a table or booth, we highly recommend that you wander the entire food hall first to get a feel for the various offerings. 

Take a look at the menus. You’ll find dishes from venues including Nudls (various noodle dishes), Tamara (Indian cuisine), Seaside Rotisserie (grill), the Latin Quarter (Mexican), and The Garden (soups and salads) just to name a few.

Of course, we can’t forget about the sweets, with Just Desserts, offering grab-and-go cakes, pies and more by the slice.

There is a Starbucks station inside Indulge on Norwegian Prima. Indulge on Viva removed Starbucks to add more seating. Indulge is an extremely popular and complimentary dining venue, especially at lunch. The extra capacity is a welcome addition and a sign that Indulge is a new passenger favorite. 

The Stadium

Norwegian’s Prima Class has taken the idea of a traditional sports court and modernized it for contemporary cruising kids and families. Up on Deck 18, many of the ships’ thrills are concentrated, including the expanded, three-deck Norwegian Speedway racetrack.

But free to all are a number of games like pickleball and a kooky, ball-kicking competition called subsoccer. A shiny, chrome tabletop shuffleboard area is an upgrade to the sleepy idea of seniors pushing around pucks at sea.

While the buzzing racetrack and jangling mini golf court are located nearby, we appreciate that Norwegian has made an effort to upgrade this space. It is approachable for all ages and also free of any extra fees. Plus, there’s an alcohol-free version of beer pong.

Unique Convertible Theater on Prima Class Ships

One of the biggest changes to roll out with the Prima Class is the concept of a convertible main theater. If you’re attending the welcome show on the first night, this might not be immediately apparent to you.

The Prima or Viva Theater seats a full crowd or partially fold down for additional floor space. The entire theater seats can “disappear” for standing room-only concerts.

This shift from a standard, proscenium theater is very intentional. It allows the entertainment staff greater flexibility to develop shows that might use part of the floor.

For example, Syd Norman’s nightclub is a popular place for late-night entertainment from the in-house cover band. Occasionally this show can be expanded to a wider audience inside of the main theater.

Currently, the headlining show onboard Norwegian Prima is “The Donna Summer Musical,” while on Norwegian Viva it’s “Beetlejuice.”

However, while a closing date hasn’t been announced for either Broadway production, Norwegian Cruise Line entertainment has admitted it is moving in the direction of in-house and original productions going forward.

We were also told that the physical abilities of the theater to transform, along with its impressive lighting and projection effects, will play a major role in future entertainment offerings across the Prima Class ships and beyond.

Ocean Boulevard

The idea of outdoor dining and a continuous promenade connecting these bars and restaurants isn’t new for Norwegian. The Waterfront debuted with the Breakaway Class in 2013 and quickly became a well-liked — and fitting— concept for the cruise line.

Who wouldn’t want to drink or dine on a cruise ship with alfresco views of the sunset? The concept continued throughout the Breakaway and Breakaway Plus Class.

Beginning with the Prima Class, this idea of an outdoor promenade has expanded even further.

There’s more space in general (44,000 square feet of it to be exact) with more seating and even an outdoor art and sculpture garden called The Concourse.

A stroll along Ocean Boulevard, located on Deck 8 onboard Prima and Viva , has surprises in store. These include a glass-bottomed walkway called Oceanwalk or the elegant La Terrazza open-air lounge overlooking the ocean.

Expanded Mandara Spa

If you’re a spa lover, you’ll be impressed by Norwegian’s stylish expansion of its Mandara Spa, now two stories on Prima Class ships.

Even for those who are just a bit curious about a relaxing day at sea will likely be impressed by the sexy design of the thermal suite. Enter the suite by a grand spiral staircase with two pools beneath a multilevel waterfall.

Surrounding the space are a variety of saunas and steam rooms, from a salt room and ice room to a charcoal sauna.

There was no jetted therapy pool and both pools were lukewarm.

Norwegian has moved its relaxation room and fitness center to the bow of the ship for the first time. This affords gorgeous views over the bow while using the exercise equipment or resting before or after a treatment.

Mini golf is a cruise ship staple. While it’s also known for being a free pastime accessible to all passengers, we can forgive a slight upcharge for Norwegian’s new, interactive take on traditional top-deck mini golf.

Located near The Stadium and across from the new Bull’s Eye private dart suites, Tee Time is available by reservation or with a walk-in group for about $15 per person.

The nine holes dazzle with individual themes, lighted signs and interactive screens posing trivia questions at each hole. An automated scoring system keeps track of your group’s par. A digital roulette wheel can add points at random.

Between wacky obstacles and a hole with a photo booth, the course is worth playing at least once as a family or group. Packages are available to bundle top-deck attractions if you suspect you’ll be getting a request for “again!”

A swanky addition to the Norwegian Cruise Line dining scene is Mediterranean seafood restaurant Palomar. Along a full wall of windows, this specialty restaurant presents sophisticated Greek and Italian flavors in an understated atmosphere lit by natural light or candlelight.

Dishes worth noting include a fresh seafood salad, Dover sole, grilled lobster. There is also a variety of simply prepared but elegant sides. These include grilled asparagus, baked bean stew in tomatoes or honey-roasted carrots with cumin and ricotta.

Do not miss the incredible galaktoboureko, a Greek dessert incorporating an orange custard and Greek yogurt sorbet on the side.

Guests can pay for Palomar either à la carte or with a specialty dining package credit. You may also request an outdoor table. Unfortunately, the al fresco dining is located at a noisy area by the pool. 

Drop and Rush Dry Slides

Spiraling from the sides of each Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva are The Drop and The Rush, each a different take on a 10-story dry slide.

The Drop is a free-fall slide with a removable platform that, when moved, you drop! The Rush is actually a set of dueling slides, so you can see who makes it to the other end faster.

The free-to-use dry slides speed you from Deck 18 to Deck 8. No water means you won’t freeze if the weather is iffy.

You are likely to be regaled with the screams of children — and adults — making their way down the slide if you are camped out near the sun loungers or at the outdoor seating of The Local Grill on Deck 8, 

Prima Class Has Expanded the Haven Complex

Norwegian’s ship-within-a-ship suite complex made waves when it launched in 2013. The cruise line has been innovating on the Haven ever since.

On Norwegian Prima Class ships, the keycard-accessible Haven is now larger than ever. Located at the aft of the ship, the views from the wake are superb. 

All Haven suites come with butler and concierge service, complimentary room service and priority reservations. There is also access to the Haven’s exclusive bar, restaurant and lounge.

Perhaps the most stunning component of the Haven is the Haven Courtyard, a two-level sun deck with cabanas, padded loungers, hot tubs and infinity pool over the back of the ship. What’s more, guests can enjoy a Finnish-style sauna and cold room right from the sun deck without leaving (or paying) to go to the spa.

Prima Class is designed for guests seeking Norwegian’s signature attractions with a slightly more intimate and upscale feel.

Inside Cabins

Studio interior single cabin.

Each Studio is fitted with a full-size bed (sized 54x74 inches / 140-190 cm), wardrobe, drawers, mirrored vanity table with chair, en suite bathroom (glass door, window, WC-toilet, shower, washbasin), a small window (looking to the corridor).

NCL's Studio cabins are designed for solo travelers. No single supplement is required for category T1.

Studio passengers enjoy exclusive access to the Studio Lounge (indoor relaxation and dining venue).

Norwegian Prima cabins review

Norwegian Prima has a total of 1646 passenger staterooms in 35 categories (including 18x Suite grades). The total number of The Haven suites is 107. An expanded Studio complex houses single-occupancy cabins (Studios for solo travelers) and Studio Lounge, both with exclusive keycard access. Staff/crew cabins are 912.

The NCL Prima ship also has numerous staterooms in "Family" categories, including Balcony, Oceanview, and Interior. The ship has a total of 6x Owner Suites, 58x Courtyard Penthouses, 43x Suites, 1030x Balcony staterooms, 124x Oceanviews, 385x Inside cabins, 73x Studios.

The NCL PRIMA class ship design boasts 18x Suite categories (including the fleet's first 3-bedroom suites) and the NCL's biggest-ever Inside-, Oceanview- and Balcony staterooms.

  • The smallest category is T1-Studio (95 ft2 / 9 m2). Inside cabins are sized 160-255 ft2 (15-24 m2).
  • Oceanview cabins are with a Large Round Window and in types Standard (185 ft2 / 17 m2), Large (235 ft2 / 22 m2) and Family (235-370 ft2 / 22-34 m2).
  • Balcony cabins vary in sizes between 230-270-360 ft2 (21-25-34 m2), with step-out balconies sized between 45-70-100 ft2 (4-7-9 m2).
  • The largest accommodation is The Haven Premier Owner's Suite (capacity 8 passengers) sized 2100 ft2 (195 m2) and with a wraparound terrace sized 830 ft2 (77 m2).

The cruise ship has a total of 41 handicap staterooms (ADA-certified, wheelchair-accessible cabins) in the following categories/types: HB-Haven Aft Penthouse (1), BA-BB-BF-Balcony (16), O4-Oceanview (7), IA-IB-IF-Inside (17). The total number of cabin categories is 39, including the "Guaranteed" categories (MX-Club Balcony Suite, BX-Balcony, OX-Oceanview, IX-Inside).

Follows the review of Norwegian Prima staterooms as amenities, furniture and included (complimentary) services:

All passenger staterooms as amenities feature sleeping area with standard twin/single beds (convertible to Queen-size double bed, with leather headboard and above-bed, lighted recess), en-suite bathroom (WC-toilet, sink, shower stall, bath products, hairdryer), lounge/sitting area (full-size wardrobe, vanity area, ample storage space), smart HDTV (26-inch, infotainment system, with recessed under TV nook), electronic safe box and life jackets (in the closet), mini-refrigerator, direct-dial phone, writing desk with 4 power outlets (2 American, 2 European), individual air-conditioning, keycard access (lighting control). Cabin bathrooms with sink (storage space underneath), glass-door shower, shower dispensers, luxury bath products (Elemis in Haven and Spa rooms).

The highest grades accommodations are in The Haven Suite categories, with large terraces fitted with outdoor jacuzzis and 4-seat dining tables. Haven Suite passengers enjoy exclusive access to relaxation and dining venues and restricted public space accessed via two The haven elevators (aft-located). NCL Prima's The Haven complex has an exclusive Sundeck (with 1x infinity swimming pool, 2 Jacuzzis, sunbathing area, private wellness facilities (spa & fitness), 24-hour butler service. Bonus perks for Suite guests are: key-card cabin access, welcome gifts (Champagne, fruits, flowers), in-room dining (full breakfast menu, evening treats), pillow menu, luxury mattresses, deluxe bedding, plush slippers, terry towels, 24-hour personal butler and concierge service (luggage unpacking), large HDTVs (with DVD players), coffee machines, refrigerator, priority services (check-in, debarkation, tender boat boarding, dining reservations), complimentary specialty restaurant dining (breakfast and lunch).

Since May 2015, the Norwegian Cruise Line charges US$7,95 for room service dining. This is an extra service charge implemented fleetwide (including on the NCL Prima ship). Passengers exempted from the new (uncommon for the industry) room service fee are only the occupants of "The Haven" suites. Still, as an exception, all passengers can order (for free) their room-service morning coffee and Continental Breakfast. After implementing the new service charge, NCL upgraded the room service menu, adding more hot food items for Breakfast and more food and beverage options (available for ordering 24 hours a day).

Handicap/wheelchair-accessible cabins

NCL Prima ship's gangways are all wide enough for most types of wheelchairs and disability scooters.

For Norwegian Cruise Line passengers with disabilities, there are a total of 41 accessible cabins, all of which with wider doors, roll-in showers, grab bars, lower sinks, and closet rods, raised toilets, amplified phones, captioned TVs.

All public restrooms on the ship have stalls and automatic door systems. All decks provide elevator access. All onboard dining venues, bars, and lounges offer wheelchair access/seating.

$12 for a drink made with leftover banana peels? My strange night out at Norwegian Cruise Line's new 'zero-waste' cruise ship bar

It turns out a drink made with banana peels isn't nearly as weird as you might think.

As I sidled up to the bar Friday night at the Metropolitan, the much-ballyhooed new "zero-waste" cocktail lounge on Norwegian Prima , I was expecting to be confronted with highball glasses stuffed to their sugar-rimmed tops with browning banana peels, overripe strawberries and day-old croissants.

The pre-launch promotion for the venue had left me bracing for just that sort of oddball experience. It promised "sustainably focused" drinks made with all sorts of otherwise-heading-for-the-trash food items leftover from the new Norwegian Cruise Line ship's eateries — banana peels and hardening croissants included.

Honestly, I was envisioning drinking mushed-up versions of the things that normally go into my garbage disposal — and paying $12 a pop for the privilege. More power to Norwegian if it can get people to do that.

But the made-with-banana-peels Primadonna cocktail I ordered just moments after grabbing the last white leather seat at the venue's marble-topped bar turned out to be as un-weird as it was delicious.

There really were banana peels in it, but none that you could see. As Lovely, the bartender, explained, the back-of-house staff at the venue makes a homemade banana peel syrup by boiling banana peels collected from around the ship. It's boiled down so much that it turns into a nearly clear, sweet liquid used to infuse the Primadonna and other drinks at the bar.

The Primadonna also is made with 15-year-old Flor de Cana ECO rum, walnut bitters and orange bitters.

Put it all together, pour it over a single large square ice cube, and what you get is something that tastes like a fairly traditional, old-fashioned-y drink, not something new and concocted.

Which, as it happens, is sort of the point with the Primadonna. As Lovely noted, it's basically an Old-Fashioned — one where the ECO rum takes the place of the whiskey that's normally in an Old-Fashioned, and the banana peel syrup takes the place of the sugar cube.

The ECO rum, for the record, is "ecofriendly and sustainably produced," according to its maker, being carbon neutral and fair trade certified and packaged in sustainable materials. The bottle that it comes in is made from recycled glass.

All the drinks at the Metropolitan bar are made with such sustainably focused spirits — a new concept for Norwegian. The brand has been getting more into sustainable drinks for several years, but this is the first time it has dedicated an entire bar to the idea. It's billing it as the first sustainable bar at sea.

The bar is just opening this week as Norwegian Prima begins a non-revenue preview sailing for media and travel agents in advance of its maiden voyage with paying passengers next week.

There are 11 special sustainable drinks at the Metropolitan in all, promoted on fancy tablets that sit atop tables. The tablets have pictures of the drink options and their unusual ingredients zipping by (a bit too fast) in a continuous stream.

Carbon neutral and fair trade Flor de Cana rum serves as the base of many of the sustainable cocktails. Most of the rest are made with Avorza vodka, which is billed as certified organic, vegan, gluten-free and kosher.

It's all very trendy and, some might say, a tad gimmicky. A cynic might dismiss it as little more than virtue signaling on the part of Norwegian. Sustainability is a selling point now for all sorts of consumer companies, driven by consumer demand. It's good marketing. But after an hour sitting with Lovely at the bar, watching her make up all kinds of mind-boggling mixtures using ingredients that otherwise would be headed to the scrap heap, I got the feeling that this was more than that.

Norwegian has seen the future when it comes to zero waste on ships, and — in addition to a lot of other things like using less-polluting fuels and removing plastic bottles — it includes getting someone to drink away all those banana peels.

In the name of research, I asked Lovely to make me another sustainable cocktail from the list. Having loved the Primadonna — not surprisingly, since I'm a big Old-Fashioned fan — I thought about asking for a similar drink called the Bananaruma. It's made with 4-year-old sustainable Flor de Cano rum stirred into the banana peel syrup and Angostura bitters. I also eyed the Bananarum-ble, which paired the sustainable rum with Peychaud's bitters; the banana peel syrup; pineapple, lime and cherry juice; and pineapple peel.

Note that the pineapple peel also is collected from eateries around the ship.

In the end, I settled on the Croissant Mai-Tai, for no other reason than it supposedly is made out of the day-old croissants that are leftover from the ship's breakfast eateries. How fabulously odd.

Alas, as with the banana peel drink, I could not see direct evidence of the leftover ingredient when I was presented with the creation. My vision had been of a traditional Mai-Tai with a past-its-prime croissant unceremoniously plunked down into it and sticking up over the top in lieu of one of those paper umbrellas. What a great Instagram post that would make. Alas, it was not to be.

As Lovely explained, the leftover croissants are pulverized and cooked down to a syrup with a tad of cardamom added for good measure.

Lovely warned me in advance that the Croissant Mai-Tai — made with rum, Cointreau and lime juice in addition to croissant syrup — tasted like a dessert, and indeed, it did. Too much for my taste.

I have now learned that I am not a croissant-infused drink fan.

Hoping for better luck with a third choice, I asked Lovely to craft me yet one more drink from the list. Make it a surprise, I said. Something wonderfully sustainable and different than anything I had yet tried.

What arrived was La Madrina, made with Avorza Ultra Premium Organic vodka, Aperol, strawberry and orange "oleo," lime juice, ginger beer and a dehydrated orchid (the latter element adorning its top).

The big sustainable element here, other than the organic vodka, was the strawberry and orange concoction, which Lovely told me was made with the leftover bits of strawberries in the ship's kitchens and otherwise-to-be-discarded orange peels.

Again, it all gets boiled down into a sugary syrup.

As for the verdict on La Madrina: If you're a Moscow Mule fan, you'll love it. It's basically the same thing, albeit a bit sweeter with the addition of the strawberry-and-orange mix.

I'm so-so on Moscow Mules. Ginger beer in drinks just adds a bit too much spice for my taste.

But I'm a firm believer in saving the environment. So ... I drank it down to the last drop. It didn't seem right to waste it by leaving it unfinished. Not at this bar.

Don't say I haven't done my part.

Is there such things as NCL cocktail menus? I have struggled with other Cruise Lines, many don't have a printed menu from which you can peruse, and if there is one it is a limited list. You see the bar tender carrying interesting drinks to other tables and wonder what they are as they are not on the list.

I would like to make full use of the free drinks and try lots of different cocktails! 😵 ‍ 💫 🤕 🤣

There were at least 3 different menus on bars on the epic, but of course not with 100s of drinks. Some bartenders can make a lot of different things though.

This recent thread from BirdTravels collects all of the bar menus from the Encore... I used this to make a personal 'to drink' list for my sailing next week. And of course, when an interesting drink goes by, you can always flag down a waiter to say "I'll have what she's having..."

@Hadacareer provided a pretty comprehensive list.  I've gotten to know bartenders/servers on various trips and when they get a feel for what you like, they'll often suggest things off-menu that you might like.  Like an alcoholic Netflix!

I took my niece and her friend on a 2019 cruise where I introduced them to Toasted Almonds (amaretto, Kahlua, and cream.)  By the end of the cruise, the bartender had subbed the cream for soft ice cream mix, added creme de cacao, and once -- by accident -- added peach schnapps.   My blood sugar went up just watching her.  🙂

Check the menus on the linked Encore review from BirdTravels, but most of these on-menu drinks are under the $15, even if they have multiple alcohols in them that would normally be over.

You have to learn to play the NCL game, but you'll catch on fast.

For example, the whiskey bar has a Woodford Reserve old fashioned on their menu for $14.  But Woodford is normally $23, so if you ask for it at another location you'd be charged $9.  

Mojito flight with 6 small mojitos will cost you $5 ($20 menu price and you pay the difference), but you can order all six full size at $14 each for no charge.

Thanks for the Beverage List, it looks a-mazing. I had come across it in the past, but completely forgot about it!

I love Pisco Sour, but I can't find it anywhere on the NCL menus I found online, yet, it is included in your list. Does that mean I could ask a bartender on NCL to make me one as part of the Open Bar package?  I usually drink beer and wine, but this time I have the Open Bar Free at Sea package (on a TA with PLENTY of sea days), and so I'm wondering how to make the best use out of it, by trying different cocktails!

I know this is not exactly on topic but has anyone ever had or know how to make the Lavender Mist?  We stayed in the Haven last year on our cruise to Cabo San Lucas and I drank these all week and loved them.  No one at any other bar knew what they were and have not been able to find anyone outside NCL Haven that knows how to make them.  I would love to have the recipe to make them at home, any help is appreciated!

I rely on Prof Cruise for all menus on cruise lines. Most updated as of 2023 - I linked you to the NCL drink page. She has it all -   Drink menus, room service, specialty - all of it. amazing.

The drink menus are from December 2022 I think? Recent.

Unless they have made changes in recent months, the brand is Island Oasis!

island oasis is indeed the brand for all the mixes that come in cartons: pina colada, strawberry daiquiri, banana daiquiri, etc.   (by the way, don’t look at the nutritional statement and calorie count printed on the side of the carton!) island oasis may be a brand unique to the restaurant supply industry and not available for retail purchase. many of the syrups, such as watermelon or simple syrup, come in bottles and I’m not sure if they are the same brand.

It’s inevitable: every spring when we pull together the Hot List, our annual collection of the world’s best new hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships, a staffer remarks that this latest iteration has got to be the best one ever. After a year’s worth of travelling the globe – to stay the night at a converted farmhouse in the middle of an olive grove outside Marrakech or sail aboard a beloved cruise line’s inaugural Antarctic voyage – it’s easy to see why we get attached. But this year’s Hot List, our 28th edition, might really be the best one ever. It’s certainly our most diverse, featuring not only a hotel suite that was once Winston Churchill’s office, but also the world’s largest cruise ship and restaurants from Cape Town to Bali . We were surprised and inspired by this year’s honorees, and we know you will be too. These are the Hot List cruise winners for 2024.

Emerald Sakara, Emerald Cruises

Now with two oceangoing vessels joining Emerald’s more established fleet of nine river-dedicated “Star-Ships,” the decade-old cruise line is extending a brand built on unpretentious luxury to more corners of the world. Christened last August , the 100-guest superyacht, Sakara, is a near twin to Azzurra, which in 2022 ushered in a new era for Emerald by taking to the high seas. Sakara, like its sister, delightfully blurs the line between the luxury and ultra-luxury cruise categories, offering attentive service, gourmet cuisine, tasteful decor, and an eclectic slate of activities at a price point friendly to more budgets. The cherry on top with both superyachts is a slew of perks atypical of small-ship sailing, ranging from an impressively comprehensive spa to a marina platform well equipped for more fun in the sun. Despite having so much good stuff, each vessel is remarkably spacious. Getting a sense of being on a private yacht is easy like Sunday morning. Sakara is homeported in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean through at least March 2026; Azzurra, too, in addition to the Middle East, Kenya, and the Seychelles . Explora I, Explora Journeys

With a showpiece lobby bar, upscale restaurants, and a sultry infinity pool, Explora Journeys' relaxed luxury-resort-at-sea vibe strikes the perfect balance on Explora I. Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International

Aboard the Icon, you can really get lost. The behemoth is just plain big, with a capacity for nearly 8,000 when combining passengers and crew across 20 decks and 250,800 gross tons. Two and a half laps around the ship’s jogging track, a particular highlight onboard, and you’ve run a mile. So one can find themselves in need of a map – forgetting your sunscreen , for example, in your cabin is a bit of a chore depending on how far you’ve made it. But the abundance of things to do is also narcotic, and you feel a bit like a lotus-eater attempting to navigate it all while keeping your head. Amid the relentless entertainment, not to be missed are the top-notch performers present everywhere, from the Olympic-level aquatics show that you can watch from the windows of the speciality seafood restaurant should seating be elusive (it often is) to the cafeteria, where crewmembers dressed as food items sing songs reminding (commanding, actually, which is fabulous) passengers to wash their hands at sinks near the entrance. If you wish to enjoy the largest waterpark at sea, by the way, do what I did not and pack a swimsuit without zippers. From around £1,818 . Charlie Hobbs

MSC Euribia, MSC Cruises

Looking at a row of cruise ships in port, you'll spot MSC Euribia right away. She's covered bow to stern by an ocean-themed mural by German artist Alex Flämig that bears the hashtag #SaveTheSeas nodding to the MSC's dedication to sustainable cruising: the Italian cruise line aims to be net-zero by 2050. MSC Euribia brings it one step closer to that goal, as it's the fleet's greenest ship yet, operating on liquified natural gas (LNG) and running advanced water and waste treatment systems onboard. But enough with the technical details – this mega-ship is packed with activities and entertainment, with 10 restaurants, 21 bars, five pools, two performance venues, and a bevvy of family-friendly amenities, like an F1 simulator, a waterpark, and a bowling alley. More adult-oriented highlights include the MSC Aurea Spa, with a thermal suite outfitted with thalassotherapy pools, a salt cave, and a snow room, as well as the Helios Wine Maker bar for wine tastings. Norwegian Viva, Norwegian Cruise Line

The second entry in Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Prima Class, Viva is like an Irish twin of older sister Prima. There’s the same stateroom count at 1,586, done in pristine and pleasing neutrals, as well as familiarly tricked-out amenities like the zippy 1,400-foot go-kart racing track that undulates over-the-top decks. Importantly, the Ocean Walk, which my colleague Mercedes Bleth adored aboard the Prima, remains. But round two afforded the premier name in large-ship cruising a chance to tweak and perfect, with an influx of seating options both in the ship’s complimentary dining hall as well as on its myriad decks. Across from the signature “zero-waste” Metropolitan Bar, where yummy drinks are whipped up from the ship’s food waste (I particularly enjoy a buttery Croissant Mai-Tai, for which hardening pastries are boiled down into sweetening syrup; the same is done with banana peels) is an interactive piece of digital art 52 feet wide that sees butterflies flit beside passersby. Oceania Vista, Oceania Cruises

Vista, Oceania’s first new ship in more than a decade and the first of its Allura Class, debuted with small but mighty upgrades to its previous ships: better stabilisers for a smoother sailing experience; stronger Wi-Fi; lighting and architecture designed to make the ship’s common spaces look and feel roomier; a resort-like pool deck; and balconies in every cabin. The real star of the show, though, is the food and beverage experience – Vista’s culinary program delivers on its promise of top-quality venues you’ll want to make the rounds at. New to the lineup are Ember, a steakhouse with decor straight out of Napa Valley , and Aquamar Kitchen, serving up lighter fare that doesn’t skimp on taste. Celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, or a just-because occasion with the Cellar Masters Wine Luncheon, a five-course meal and wine pairing. Scenic Eclipse II, Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours

The eagerly awaited Scenic Eclipse II is the new and improved version of Scenic's first expedition vessel, Scenic Eclipse. Dubbed "discovery yachts" for their sleek look and top-tier service, the sisters are nearly identical, with most changes so subtle that most guests might not even notice them, such as the slight enlargement of the steam room in the spa. A Look at the Inaugural Season of the Norwegian Aqua

The new Norwegian Aqua is set to enter service in 2025.

It’s the third ship int eh Prima class, but has been upsized from the Prima and Viva, as the 3,571-guest newbuild will be delivered from Fincantieri and then make its debut with regular service out of Port Canaveral to start following a series of preview cruises.

Before officially starting its maiden season in North America, the Norwegian Aqua offers a seven-night trans-Atlantic crossing to Boston.

Under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy , the 156,300-ton ship is scheduled to sail from Southampton for the trip on March 28, 2025. With no ports of call, the itinerary ends in Boston following seven days at sea.

After a series of inaugural activities, the Norwegian Aqua is set to offer a short cruise to the Bahamas on April 16, 2025.

Departing from PortMiami, the five-night voyage features visits to Bimini and Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island destination in the country, Great Stirrup Cay. Before returning to Florida, the itinerary also includes two full days at sea.

Seven Nights from Port Canaveral Date: April 26, 2025 Length: 7 nights Homeport: Port Canaveral (United States) Itinerary: Great Stirrup Cay (Bahamas); Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic); St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands); and Tortola (British Virgin Islands)

Following an additional short cruise from Miami, the Norwegian Aqua is scheduled to reposition to Port Canaveral for a series of week-long cruises to the Caribbean.

Officially kicking off its inaugural season, the ship sails from its new Central Florida homeport for the first time on April 26, 2025. Also sailing to the Bahamas, the first departure of the program features visits to Tortola, Puerto Plata and St. Thomas.

Bermuda from New York City Date: September 6, 2025 Length: 7 nights Homeport: New York City (United States) Itinerary: King’s Wharf (Bermuda)

After repositioning to New York City a few days earlier, the Norwegian Aqua kicks off a series of week-long cruises to Bermuda in early September.

Set to be repeated throughout early October, the ship’s regular itinerary in the region features a three-day visit to King’s Wharf, in addition to three days at sea.

Return to Miami Date: October 12, 2025 Length: 7 nights Homeport: Miami (United States) Itinerary: Great Stirrup Cay (Bahamas); Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic); St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands); and Tortola (British Virgin Islands)

The Norwegian Aqua is set to return to Miami for the 2025-26 winter season. Starting on October 12, 2025, the ship will offer seven-night cruises to the Eastern Caribbean departing from Norwegian Cruise Line’s Terminal B.

The ship’s regular itinerary features visits to Puerto Plata, St. Thomas and Tortola, as well as the company’s private island destination in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay.
