Wirklich toll!

Watch Taylor Swift Debut ‘The Albatross’ Live in Dublin

  • By Althea Legaspi

Althea Legaspi

Taylor Swift debuted “The Albatross” live on Saturday during her second of three Eras Tour appearances this weekend in Dublin, Ireland at Aviva Stadium. The set also featured a mashup of “This Love” and “Ours.”

For The Tortured Poet’s Department: The Anthology track’s “The Albatross,” Swift took to her acoustic guitar and mixed the song with Reputation ’s “Dancing With Our Hands Tied,” as fan footage shared on social media highlighted.

“The acoustic section — I absolutely wait for this all night because it is the point of the show that keeps me on my toes because I do something on guitar, I do something on piano,” she said before debuting the song live. “And I do things completely different. I’m always trying to think of something new to do, so I decided I’m going to do a song I’ve never performed live before.”

Beyond the live song debuts she has been delivering throughout the Eras Tour , Swift recently dropped another surprise for fans: Last weekend, her boyfriend Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, made his own live Eras Tour debut on stage in London. He appeared as one of her dancers and carried Swift to a couch during the intro to “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” for the vaudeville-styled segment.

Swift closes out her Dublin Eras Tour shows on Sunday. Her next string of dates find her in Amsterdam, where she will perform at Johan Cruijff Arena from July 4 through the 6.

Taylor Swift Says Her Band ‘Plays Live for Three and a Half Hours,’ in Seeming Clapback to Dave Grohl’s Shadiness

Taylor Swift may not ever get around to responding directly to Dave Grohl ‘s controversial weekend jibe. But it sounds as if she’s already had her say, offering what is being taken by some fans as a subtle, subtweeting retort to his joking contention that Foo Fighters concerts consist of live music and the Eras Tour does not.

Somewhat buried in her very newsworthy Sunday night show at London’s Wembley Stadium was a passing remark in which she noted that her band “is playing live for you for three and a half hours tonight.”

Grohl created a firestorm when he made what amounted to a dad joke during Foo Fighters’ concert in London Saturday, which was up against the second of Swift’s three Wembley shows this past weekend.

“I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift,” Grohl said in front of Saturday’s crowd at London Stadium. “So we like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour.’ We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few fucking errors as well. Just a couple. That’s because we actually play live. What? Just saying.”

Public reactions to Grohl’s diss have largely been negative, even in circles that might normally skew toward the rockist side of things. The dig at the biggest star in music made international headlines, perhaps far and away beyond what he intended, but so far Grohl — who has praised Swift going farther back int he past — hasn’t made any followup comment to explain himself.

Attention to Swift’s remark on stage Sunday only began to grow on Monday, with the oxygen previously having been sucked up by less subtle moments in her Wembley show, like guest appearances by Travis Kelce and Gracie Abrams and the presence of a dancing Paul McCartney in the audience.

Back in 2016, Grohl showed a much more charitable side toward Swift, telling the story of how she saved him from embarrassment at a McCartney party. As he relayed the story, McCartney “started playing this song and he’s blowing everyone’s mind… He finishes, and everyone looks at me, and they’re like, ‘Go on, Dave, play a song!’  I’m like, ‘I don’t know how to play piano.’ I look around and all the guitars are left-handed. I’m screwed… I’d maybe smoked a little pot – so I was already ‘challenged.’” Then Swift stepped in at the party and asked to play a song, leading him to think, “I know this song. What the hell is this? And she was playing ‘Best of You.’ As if I weren’t high enough — that blew me into outer space! Taylor Swift, ‘Best Of You,’ Paul McCartney… I lost my mind.”

Taylor Swift Eras Tour Dublin

Taylor Swift debuted another Tortured Poets Department track live Saturday night (June 29). The singer-songwriter performed “The Albatross,” found on the Anthology edition of her latest album, for the first time at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.

“I’m gonna do a song I’ve never performed live before today,” she announced at the Eras Tour endstage, where she brings surprise songs (song mashups, lately) to the acoustic section of her show each night.

All the Surprise Songs Taylor Swift Has Performed on The Eras Tour (So Far)

Trending on billboard.

Swift suddenly shifted to “Dancing With Our Hands Tied,” a highlight from her Rep album about a love she fears will be endangered.

“I knew there was no one in the world who could take it,” she admits on the track. “But we were dancing/ Dancing with our hands tied, hands tied.”

She expertly mashed up the two songs’ moving bridges, starting with “Dancing” — “I’d kiss you as the lights went out/ Swayin’ as the room burned down/ I’d hold you as the water rushes in/ If I could dance with you again” — and adding in her “Albatross” tale, offering: “And when that sky rains fire on you/ And you’re persona non grata/ I’ll tell you how I’ve been there too/ And that none of it matters.”

“Spread my wings like a parachute/ I’m the albatross/ I swept in at the rescue,” Swift sings on The Tortured Poets Department track.

On piano during Saturday night’s acoustic set, Swift performed 1989 ‘s dreamy “This Love,” which she embellished with elements of her Speak Now -era love song “Ours.”

“When you’re young, you just run/ But you come back to what you need,” she wistfully sang from “This Love,” reassuring her muse with sweet words from “Ours”: “It’s not theirs to speculate if it’s wrong/ Your hands are tough, but they are where I belong/ I’ll fight their doubt and give you faith with this song for you.”

She has yet to debut the album’s “So Long, London,” “Florida!!!” feat. Florence + The Machine, “Clara Bow,” “imgonnagetyouback,” “Cassandra” and “Robin” on the stage.

Below, watch clips of both acoustic performances from Saturday night. Swift’s Eras Tour will entertain the Dublin crowd with one more show on Sunday before making its way to Amsterdam for the 4th of July. Dates in Zurich, Milan and more will follow on Swift’s international trek.

Dave Matthews Band create a spiritual experience in first of two Ruoff Music Center shows

love is live tour bremen

As a self-proclaimed pop-culture junkie and fan of what I think is a pretty diverse range of music, I’m ashamed to admit how little familiarity I have with jam bands.

I’m not sure I can name a single song by The Grateful Dead , I have only some idea of what Phish might sound like, and going into Friday night’s show at Ruoff Music Center, I knew exactly one song by Dave Matthews Band .

I’m not sipping Haterade and telling you I’m too good for this kind of music. It’s a genuine cultural blind spot. It’s OK — I’m disappointed in me, too.

But, in talking to the people in my life who love Dave Matthews Band, it became quickly clear to me that I should be thankful to be experiencing my first of his shows on the first night of Creekend — his annual stop at the Noblesville amphitheater formerly known as Deer Creek .

August Indianapolis concerts: Phish will return to Ruoff Music Center for a 3-show summer weekend. How to get tickets

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

And it was a sight to behold. They played for three hours straight, jamming through 20-plus songs and communing with the crowd in a way I've yet to see at a concert this year.

As a Creekend first-timer, it was definitely an unforgettable experience. Here are five things that defined my first Dave Matthews Band concert.

The crowd at Ruoff Music Center reminded me why live music is a spiritual experience

Yes, Matthews and his band were great, and I'll get to that in a minute, but Friday night's show was, for me, about the fans. In looking around me in the pavilion and out across the lawn, it's hard to believe this show wasn't billed as a sellout.

The band hit the stage around 7:45 p.m. and were greeted by waves of applause and cascading cheers that lasted several minutes. As the opening song — 2002's "Grey Street" — started, the woman next to me turned and pointed to her arm: "I got goosebumps!"

There's a moment near the end of that song in which Matthews lets out a guttural "yeah," and the crowd went there with him, the first example of the evening's exuberance.

Live music, no matter the genre or venue, is a beautiful convener of people from all walks of life. People who may not have much in common outside the walls of a performance space, but for a few hours they can come together over their shared love of art. Artists and their fans create a sacred space for each other, interrupting all the outside noise and negativity to share in something that can be extremely cathartic, joyful, rejuvenating. In those moments, nothing matters except the music.

By the end of the first song, I had goosebumps, too.

Jam bands can make you lose track of space and time

Captain Obvious reporting for duty. But please be patient, it's my first time.

And by the end of the third song, "The Idea of You," felt like your average three- to four-minute song, compared to the two songs that spanned the previous 25 or so minutes, but as it wrapped, I found myself thinking, "Wait... that's it?!"

The fans love Dave Matthews — and they love Deer Creek Music Center

Despite my general lack of familiarity with his music, I respect the hell out of any artist who earns the kind of following that Dave has throughout the years.

I’ve been lurking in a DMB Facebook group with thousands of fans excited for Creekend 2024 over the last few weeks, and it’s been delightful to watch the community that’s developed around him. The creativity exhibited in their fan-made merch, the kindness they show when sharing tips and trips for navigating the area of finding lodging, the camaraderie forged among once-strangers.

Retro Indy: Deer Creek Music Center, now Ruoff, turns 35. See its first lineup (and those ticket prices!)

Not only that, but it seemed that every person around me had an encyclopedic knowledge of the Dave Matthews Band catalog. There were hardly any special effects or staging — just the band and their instruments — and the transition from one song to the next can sometimes result in an awkward pause as the musicians reset. And for a band like this, known for ever-changing setlists and new approaches to old standards, those transition times can create quite a bit of anticipation. Any gaps that existed were filled by the general buzz of the crowd. Fans were either decompressing from the jam they just heard, or trying to guess what was coming next based on a familiar stray note that might be part of a specific guitar lick. These people have PhDs in Creekend calculus.

The musicianship is stellar

Three decades since their major label debut, "Under the Table and Dreaming," I'm not sure how much rehearsal time these guys take for a tour, nor am I positive it would do them any good — they like to change things up, and it's clear the fans love it, too.

These guys are clearly so in tune with one another, and I'm not just talking about their instruments. I mean emotionally, spiritually, mentally. They're also great performers and they know how to create music that moves together and moves people. From the keys and guitars to the drums, trumpet and saxophone (and flute!), it was all top-tier.

Want more? Here are all the acts coming to Ruoff Music Center this summer

I am tired on Dave Matthews' behalf

What he's doing is not easy.

Three hours of singing, yelling, some light wiggling and a single jump may not sound like much, but bear in mind it was 88 degrees outside and quite humid when he took the stage. And he's doing that twice in Indianapolis and has been all over the Midwest with it in the last few weeks. The quality of his voice is fantastic for someone who's pushing his vocal instrument as hard as he is nearly nightly. But for as physically exhausted as I'm sure he was, Matthews' stage presence is delightful. He's a charismatic performer who clearly loves what he's doing.

There was one thing that surprised me, and I mean this more as a neutral comment than a criticism of his stage presence: For as much of a relationship as the fans seem to have with Matthews as a frontman and as an artist, he spent very little time talking to the audience. Apart from saying hello to the crowd and thanking everyone for coming, the first time he said anything substantive to the audience was about an hour and a half into the set, introducing "Black and Blue Bird." While there was plenty of interaction between Matthews and his audience when it came to singing together Friday evening, I'm not sure I've ever been to a concert with as little onstage chatter as Friday night's show.

His ecstatic dancing when he shed his guitar for a rousing cover of Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" made up for it, in my humble opinion.

Protesters with smoke bombs tackled after interrupting 72nd hole of 2024 Travelers Championship

Play was only delayed a matter of minutes in connecticut.

police-travelers.png

Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim approached the green on the 72nd hole of the 2024 Travelers Championship with the same goal: winning the final signature event of the PGA Tour season. Seconds later, their focus changed to avoiding a handful of protesters who charged the green with smoke bombs.

Police and security on the scene quickly contained the situation, tackling the protesters and removing them from the field of play as fans chanted "U-S-A" and "ass-hole."

Still, white and red powder remained on the green as Scheffler, Kim and Akshay Bhatia looked to complete their fourth rounds with rules officials deeming that play would continue despite the interruption and change to the surface.

In total, the disruption only lasted a few of minutes with Scheffler's ensuing birdie putt landing within inches of the hole. Kim, who trailed by one stroke entering the expected final hole of the tournament, drained his birdie to force a playoff with Scheffler, a five-time PGA Tour winner already this season.

The PGA Tour determined that it was in the best interest of players and the event to cut a new hole for the playoff -- which started on that same 18th hole -- to avoid any lingering debris on the putting surface. Unfortunately for Kim, he could not keep his momentum going. He scored bogey in the playoff, while Scheffler won for the sixth time on the PGA Tour this season with a par.

Enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Advent season, surprise your favourite people with a winterly short trip for Christmas or Valentine's Day, immerse yourself in the special atmosphere of New Year's Eve or start the New Year successfully with a varied journey - in winter many wonderful opportunities can be combined with a break in Bremen. Sweeten the cold season with magical moments, fine culinary delights, time for relaxation, cosiness and many cultural pleasures.

The days are getting shorter, the temperatures are dropping and the wonderful magic of the christmas season or the tingling in your stomach around Valentine's Day enchant your everyday life. Winter gives us many reasons to get closer and take the time to spend unforgettable moments together with our loved ones. Why not in Bremen? Treat yourself and your better half to a special kind of date, enjoy a romantic dinner or make wonderful memories together with new experiences.

"Kohlfahrt" Euphoria

No matter how frosty the weather may be - if our body releases enough happiness hormones, all grey is blown away. How good that the people of Bremen have found just the right medicine for this purpose. Let yourself be infected by the local "kale euphoria" and experience real Bremen tradition! After the first frost, "Kohl and Pinkel" are served, preferably after an extended walk, called a kale tour or kale trip. In addition to the anticipation of the delicious meal, all kinds of fun games, a lot of sociability and often high-proof droplets provide the warming endorphins.

Enjoyment on Cold Days

Grey, cold days are the perfect opportunity for you to treat yourself to a little comfort. Warm yourself from the inside while staying in our cosy hanseatic city: Coffee and tea have a living tradition in this country, while sweet treats produced in Bremen will caress your palate. High-quality distillates manufactured directly on the Weser River will melt your heart as much as the delicious foundation of Bremen's town hall - the Bremer Ratskeller.

Cultural Fireworks

Speaking of enjoyment: If the numerous hanseatic delicacies have not yet blown away the cold thoughts, let yourself be heated up by breath-taking shows, top performances, exciting exhibitions or productions worth seeing. Immerse yourself in other worlds, be enchanted and take home new impressions, exciting insights and beautiful memories.

Magical Christmas Time

When the city begins to shine with thousands of sparkling lights, the smell of mulled wine and Christmas cakes fills the air above the market square and the Weser Promenade Schlachte is bathed in mystical blue, the magic of Advent has spread to Bremen. Experience one of the most beautiful times of the year in the home town of the Bremen Town Musicians.

Sparkling into the New Year

Millions of sparks, amazed faces and the odd popping cork - don't miss the special magic of New Year's Eve in Bremen. Taylor Swift praises her band after Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl suggests she doesn't play live music

Taylor Swift shared the love in London with her band Sunday, pointing out that they perform for more than three hours during her blockbuster shows — praise that comes after Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl insinuated her show isn't live.

Swift addressed the crowd on her third night at Wembley Stadium following a standing ovation. She called it an unforgettable moment not just for her but also for "every one of my band members, every single one of our crew," according to video posted online .

"My band, who’s gonna be playing live for you for 3½ hours tonight, they deserve this so much," she said. "And so does every one of my fellow performers. And you just gave that to us so generously, we will never forget it.”

Over the course of more than 100 shows of The Eras Tour , Swift's fans have offered her a standing ovation every night at the same time: at the end of her performance of "Champagne Problems." And while she always thanks her band during the show, she doesn't always mention it after the ovation.

Some speculated online that Swift pointedly shared the praise after Grohl insinuated Saturday that her show isn't played live. Foo Fighters were also performing in London when he told the crowd, "You don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift."

He then said that the band has had a "few eras" but it dubs its show the "Errors Tour."

“That’s because we actually play live," Grohl said. "What? Just saying. You guys like raw, live rock ’n’ roll music, right? You came to the right f------ place.”

Ironically, Swift's fans have been jokingly calling her tour "The Errors Tour" for the exact same reason. People have pointed out several mistakes since she opened the tour last year, such as the time her boot broke onstage or when her piano broke because it had been played in the rain the night before.

And during Sunday's show, audience members reported that Swift accidentally swallowed a bug during her performance of the 10-minute version of "All Too Well."

"I swallowed a bug, can you sing?" Swift said to fans as she coughed, according to video posted online .

Grohl's comments are a departure from his previous praise of Swift, of whom he once told former late night host James Corden that she saved him from embarrassment at a Paul McCartney party. He said that the partygoers asked him to perform a song but that he didn't know how to play piano and that he was "a little out of sorts at that point."

"I'm like, 'Oh, my God, what do I do? What do I do?'" Grohl said in the 2018 interview. "And right at that moment Taylor Swift stands up and goes, 'I'll do a song.' ... She saved my ass."

The song Swift offered to play was "Best of You" by Foo Fighters. Grohl complimented her rendition, calling it "so beautiful," and said he got up and sang it with her.

Rolling Stones ‘Bridges to Bremen’ Review

love is live tour bremen

Bridges to Bremen contains the entire 22-song concert on two CDs as well as on a Blu-ray; the latter also features four bonus performances, including “Under My Thumb” and “Let It Bleed,” from a contemporaneous Chicago gig.

Related: Our recap of the Stones’ delayed 2019 tour opener

Since the tour was in support of the group’s Bridges to Babylon album, a top-five hit from the previous year, it’s not surprising that the Bremen show incorporates five of that LP’s 13 songs. Babylon will never rank with the Stones’ best albums, but it is consistently solid, and some of its best material is here, including “Flip the Switch,” “Anybody Seen My Baby?,” “Saint of Me,” “Out of Control” and, perhaps most notably, “Thief in the Night,” with Keith Richards on lead vocal. The bulk of the program, though, leans heavily on ’60s and ’70s classics that need no introduction, including the show-opening “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”…

…plus “Let’s Spend the Night Together,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Paint It Black,” “It’s Only Rock ’n’ Roll (But I Like It),” “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”

Though audio and video concert versions of most, if not all, of these numbers are readily available on earlier releases, Mick Jagger is at the top of his stage-prancing form throughout, and the rest of the band delivers the goods as well. Moreover, there are a few tracks that distinguish this set: a fine reading of Black and Blue ’s atmospheric “Memory Motel,” one of the Stones’ best and least-often-performed ballads; and a 16-minute version of “Miss You” that showcases jaw-dropping sax work by the late Bobby Keys. (The cover of Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” is excellent too, though it’s quite similar to the one on 1995’s Stripped .)

The remixed, remastered audio (presented with a DTS-HD Master option) is excellent, as is the video, which has been restored from original masters. The picture is standard definition, not widescreen, which means you’ll see black bars on both sides of the video. But you’ll likely forget all about them once you get pulled into this music.

Tickets for the Stones’ 2019 “No Filter” tour are available here  and here .
