El road trip de Alessandra Ambrosio por Islandia que puedes hacer tú

Unos cuantos días en  Islandia, uno de los destinos más de moda en los últimos años, dan para mucho. Algo así habrá pensado Alessandra Ambrosio  y su familia, porque su escapada a este país de paisajes increíbles les ha dado la oportunidad de vivir un montón de experiencias únicas que seguro no olvidarán. “Rodeados de la impresionante naturaleza de Islandia, nuestra aventura por carretera nos recuerda que la mayor belleza de la vida se encuentra en lo salvaje” ha dicho la modelo brasileña en su cuenta de Instagram mientras muestra su paso por espectaculares cascadas , parques nacionales, glaciares … También la hemos visto a lomos de los característicos caballos islandeses, sobre una moto de nieve o sumergida en uno de los spas  más increíbles del planeta. Te contamos todas las experiencias que ha vivido para que también puedas hacerlas tú en ese próximo y deseado viaje a este país de fascinantes escenarios.

Parque nacional de thingvellir.

En la zona sur de la isla y a poco más de 40 kilómetros de Reikiavik, la capital, se encuentra este imponente parque nacional declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco. Entre coladas de lava en él puedes apreciar la fractura de la falla que divide la placa tectónica Euroasiática de la Norteamericana, una división que crece cada año hasta dos centímetros. El parque, que cuenta también con centro de visitantes , está lleno de senderos por los que caminar. No hay que perderse en una visita a la cascada de Öxarárfoss , en la que se ha fotografiado Alessandra, o la falla de Silfra , donde los más valientes se enfundan un traje de neopreno y se lanzan a bucear o hacer snorkel en sus transparentes aguas procedentes del glaciar Langjökull.

RECORRER LA ISLA A CABALLO

El caballo típico islandés mide unos 135 centímetros y es una especie totalmente protegida en la isla que no puede cruzarse con ninguna otra para asegurar de la pureza de la raza. Pese a no tener un gran tamaño es un animal fuerte, peludo y perfectamente adaptado a las inclemencias de la naturaleza en la que habita. Es tradicional disfrutar de una excursión ecuestre a lomos de este animal, especialmente en Skagafjörður , en la zona norte, un lugar excepcional para su cría. Aún así, son muchas las empresas que ofrecen la actividad por todo el país.

UNA EXCURSIÓN EN MOTO DE NIEVE

En un país en el que el 12% de su territorio son glaciares, recorrerlos sobre una moto de nieve o  un camión 8x8 es una de las experiencias más apasionantes. Puedes vivir la aventura en distintos lugares de la isla como el Golden Circle  o glaciares como Langjokull, Myrdalsjokull o Eyjafjallajokull, entre otros (guidetoiceland.is).

AVISTAMIENTO DE CETÁCEOS

Islandia se encuentra entre  los mejores destinos de Europa para ver cetáceos , una actividad que nadie se quiere perder. ¿Los mejores meses? Entre  finales de mayo y finales de agosto son los mejores meses para ir en busca de ballenas en el país. La localidad de Húsavík , situada en el norte de la isla, está considerada como  la capital europea para el avistamiento de cetáceos, así que será el mejor lugar para salir en su búsqueda porque desde allí es fácil conseguirlo. Además de contar con un bello puerto pesquero, también podrás visitar el mayor museo del mundo dedicado a estos mamíferos marinos. También se organizan tours  para ver ballenas desde Reikiavik  o desde Akureyri .

Así habla Alessandra Ambrosio de las cascadas de Islandia. Y es que en este paraíso natural se encuentran algunas de  los saltos de agua más impresionantes del planeta .  Gullfoss es probablemente la más conocida, a una media hora en coche de Reikiavik, con sus 32 metros de caída vertical, pero no la única. También hay que visitar las majestuosas de Skogafoss  y Seljalandsfoss o la de Detifosse , la más potente de Europa.

Cualquier viaje a Islandia debe dereservar unos días para conocer su capital. Incluso si no se dispone de mucho tiempo, una primera toma de contacto con el país podría pasar por Reikiavik combinado con algunas de las excursiones cercanas, como el Parque Nacional de Thingvellir y la cascada de Gullfoss, que no quedan lejos. Los días dedicados a la capital más septentrional de Europa , una ciudad acogedora, cosmopolita y llena de vida, hay que recorrer su centro histórico, visitar la majestuosa construcción de la  iglesia de Hallgrímskirkja o el lago Tjörnin , sin salir del centro, un lugar que durante el invierno se congela y los islandeses utilizan para patinar sobre hielo. También es aconsejable pasar por el  Museo Nacional  de Islandia para conocer un poco más sobre su historia. Dando una vuelta por su paseo marítimo descubrirás una de las esculturas más famosas del lugar:  El viajero del sol , un homenaje a la tradición marinera de Islandia, realizada por el escultor Jón Gunnar Árnason.

EL SPA  MÁS INSÓLITO DEL PLANETA

De entre todas las experiencias incomparables que un viajero puede vivir en Islandia, pocas proporcionarán mayor sensación de placer que la de adentrarse en las insólitas aguas termales al aire libre de la Laguna Azul  (bluelagoon.com/is). Se encuentra en la península de Reykjanes , a menos de 50 kilómetros de Reykiavik, y este spa  geotermal es uno de los mayores reclamos para los viajeros. Sus aguas tienen una temperatura constante de 40 grados y son ricas en sales minerales (sílice, que le da ese tono azulado) y nutrientes, además, favorecen la relajación y te puedes aplicar un tratamiento cosmético en el cutis mientras te bañas. Algo que no dejó de hacer Alessandra Ambrosio en su visita.

ADENTRARSE EN UN TÚNEL DE LAVA

Otra experiencia de la que tenemos que tomar nota: explorar el túnel de lava de Raufarhólshellir, uno de los más largos y conocidos de la isla , situado en una cueva que se formó hace más de 5.000 años y que se visita en una sencilla excursión desde la capital (thelavatunnel.is/lava-tunnel/). The bourgeois charm of Siberia's oil capital

If you’re driving west across Russia from the Pacific Ocean, the first thing that you notice upon entering the city of Tyumen is the McDonalds. Tyumen has long been one of the only Siberian cities with a McDonalds restaurant. Although the fast-food giant has plans to open locations in nearby Novosibirsk and other regional cities, Siberia still contains one of the longest distances on earth outside of Africa where you can remain on a major highway and not see a McDonalds. Until you reach Tyumen, that is.

A stop in Tyumen provides an interesting glimpse into how modern Russia’s oil revenue has influenced Siberia’s oldest Russian city. Tyumen is a great stopover point on the Trans-Siberian Railroad and a short ride from Yekaterinburg (five hours) or Tobolsk (four hours).

In the 16th century, Russia started expanding eastward into parts of Central Asia ruled by the Tatars, an Islamic people who still live thoughout Russia. A band of Cossacks wrested control of Tyumen from the Tatars in 1580. Six years later, Russians established a fort in Tyumen on the Tura River.

For centuries, Tyumen vied with the nearby city of Tobolsk—once the official capital of Siberia—for the prestige of the region’s most important city. Tyumen won in the end, when the Trans-Siberian Railroad bypassed Tobolsk and was routed through this now oil-rich city.

Tyumen played an important role in Russian history during times of war. At the beginning of the Russian Civil War, the Bolshevik Red Army slowly pushed the White Army, commanded by Admiral Alexander Kolchak, into Siberia. Kolchak and his anti-Bolshevik forces holed up in Tyumen until the Red Army overtook them in January of 1918.

During the Second World War, many Russian industries were moved away from the front to Siberian cities. Tyumen had already become an industrial capital during the early Soviet era, and the city became an ideal spot to relocate Russia’s western factories. As Nazi forces approached Russia in 1941, the embalmed body of Vladimir Lenin was sent from the Lenin Mausoleum in Moscow’s Red Square by train to the Tyumen State Agricultural Academy for safekeeping. In 1945, Lenin’s body was shipped back to Moscow.

Some of the factories relocated to Tyumen during wartime remained in the city. The discovery of oil in the region catapulted Siberia’s oldest Russian settlement to further prosperity. Modern Tyumen is a vibrant city with a number of universities and a revamped center well-suited for exploration by foot.

Start your walking tour around central Tyumen on Ulitsa Respubliki. The city’s main drag has fine pedestrian walkways and leads wanderers past an impressive collection of tsarist-era buildings that recall Tyumen’s importance in the beginning of Russia’s colonization of Siberia.

From the southeastern end of Ul. Respubliki, head north toward the Tura River and take a brief side trip onto Ul. Ordzhonikidze to visit the Fine Arts Museum (47 Ul. Ordzhonikidze) which houses exhibits of classical Russian and Soviet art as well as traditional bone carving and works produced by the native people who live in the far north of Tyumen Oblast.

Back on Ul. Respubliki, you’ll soon see the city’s requisite Lenin statue by the local government buildings. A block away, opposite Lenin, is Tyumen’s city park, a delightful place to walk or hop on one of its amusement rides.

Most Siberian cities developed under the watchful eyes of the atheist Soviet regime and churches are usually not Siberia’s strongpoint. But this isn’t true in four-centuries-old Tyumen. Strolling up Ul. Respubliki, you’ll soon come to the Church of the Saviour (41 Ul. Lenina) and the Znamensky Cathedral (13 Ul. Semakova). Each of these stunning Baroque-influenced churches are located right off Ul. Respubliki and were built in the late 18th century.

Tyumen is also famous for its historic wooden houses. Heading further up Ul. Respubliki, stop to wander around some of the side streets and snap photos of these ornate wooden structures which provide a glimpse back in time. Near the Tura River, you’ll pass a civil war monument in remembrance of the Tyumen natives who died fighting the White Army and the Tyumen State Agricultural Academy (7 Ul. Respubliki) an impressive building in its own right where Lenin was stored during the Second World War.

Near the end of Ul. Respubliki, take a walk over the Tura River on the Lover’s Bridge, a suspension bridge open to foot traffic only that has become one of Tyumen’s iconic sights. The other side of the river is a great place to see more of Tyumen’s signature wooden houses as well as take in the churches scattered around the city center.

Save the best for last and visit the Trinity Monastery (10 Ul. Kommunisticheskaya) at the end of Ul. Respubliki. A white wall surrounds the monastery, giving it the appearance of a mini-kremlin, and the golden onion domes of the 18th century churches within should not be missed.

General city information.

Tyumen is located on the Tura River 2,144 km east of Moscow. With the population of 511000 this is the administrative center of Tyumen Oblast in the Federal District of Urals.

Tyumen was the first Russian town in Siberia. Feodor I of Russia has founded it in 1586 on the site of the Siberian Tartar town of Chimgi-Tura. Yermak Timofeyevich annexed the region of Tyumen part of Siberia Khanate to Russia in 1585. The following year the town of Tyumen was founded as a Russian fort post. In the 17 th –18 th centuries, Tyumen became an important trade center on the routes to Central Asia, China and Persia as well as the place that produced leather and handcrafted goods. In 1836, the first steamboat of Siberia was built in Tyumen and in 1885 the Trans-Siberian railway has reached the town.

During the 1930s Tyumen became a major Siberian industrial city of the Soviet Union. Steamboats, cargo ships, furniture, fur and leather clothing—all were produced in Tyumen. During The World War II (aka the Great Patriotic War in Russia), Lenin’s body was moved from Moscow to a disguised tomb at the Tyumen Agriculture Institute. Also during the war numerous factories were evacuated to Tyumen from the European part of the Soviet Union. Many kinds of military equipment were produced in the city.

In 1948, oil was discovered in Tyumen region, and in the 1960s and 1970s the oil industry became a vital component of the city’s economy. Today Tyumen is an important center for the gas and oil industries in Russia. The living standards of Tyumen residents are only second to those of Moscow in Russia. Companies such as Gazprom, LUKoil and Yukos have much of their activities centered in Tyumen.

The Museum of local history is one a very few in the world that boast a complete mammoth skeleton.
