Jungle Cruise at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom: Everything You Need to Know

There are few rides as iconic to Disney World as the Jungle Cruise. 

The riverboat adventure has been delighting guests since Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida first opened up its gates back in the 1970s!

Since then, the ride has only improved– and despite having one of the longest wait times in the Magic Kingdom, guests of the park continue to visit this ride on every trip. That’s thanks both to nostalgia, and the fact that no two rides are ever the same. 

Now, with the release of a major motion picture inspired by the ride, new and regular visitors will be flocking to visit! 

Before heading out to Magic Kingdom and hopping aboard, here’s everything you need to know.

Jungle Cruise is one of the original Magic Kingdom attractions, running since its opening in Disney World in 1971. 

The real OG Jungle Cruise opened at Disneyland in the 1950s, and versions of the ride exist in all Disney theme parks worldwide. 

The ride was originally inspired by a series of 1950s movies, including ‘The African Queen’ and the ‘True Life Adventures series.

Bill Evans was tasked with creating a jungle within the park on a budget. To achieve this, he used a mix of tropical plants and plants that appeared to be tropical (but were actually local) . 

He even used the trick of planting orange trees upside down, making the roots look like vines!

Marc David later made significant contributions to the design in later versions, including many of the scenes, present today. 

The ride’s early renditions were more of an experience at first, like visiting a zoo or a botanic garden. However, over time the ride has developed into a funny, lighthearted attraction, and as a result, has increased in popularity. 

A comedic script was added, the scenes became more humorous, and the guides were encouraged to have fun with the guests. You’ll now find them cracking jokes with guests, showing their personalities, and ad-libbing along the way!

Audio effects have been improved and modernized, the animatronics updated, new scenes added, and the jungle has grown and expanded throughout the years. 

In 2010, the jungle became a self-sustaining ecosystem, after 45 years of careful care and growth. The ride has also removed elements that were offensive to native cultures.

The Jungle Cruise story was expanded in 2015 with the opening of the Jungle Cruise-themed restaurant, Jungle Skipper Canteen. 

This introduced Dr. Albert Falls as the founder of Jungle Cruise in 1911. He then handed it over to his granddaughter Alberta Falls in the 1930s, where the story of the ride takes place. 

The ride is full of audio-animatronic characters– mostly jungle animals– such as ones found on an African safari. There are waterfalls, a temple to pass inside, and many other scenes along the way! 

All of the scenes can be experienced from within your boat, making you feel as if you’re an explorer from the thirties. 

The ride is suitable for all ages and very accessible to those with disabilities. It’s a smooth, slow ride, but there’s never a dull moment thanks to the story unfolding around you and your skipper’s commentary.

‘Jungle Cruise’ is the latest in a long line of movies inspired by rides at Disney theme parks, the most notable being Pirates of the Caribbean. The 2021 film starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt and followed the general theme of the ride. 

The Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise is located in Adventureland. 

You can find it by going to the hub and taking the first left to Adventureland. After passing shops, restaurants, and the Swiss Family Treehouse, you’ll see the Magic Carpets of Aladdin. 

From there, look to your left and you should see the entrance to Jungle Cruise! 

Queue  

The queue has four areas that can be opened up, depending on the size of the line. The average wait time for the ride is about an hour, one of the longest at the park. 

It can get pretty hot waiting in the queue on a summer’s day, so beware if you have anyone in your party that may struggle with this. Don’t forget your water bottle, sunscreen, and hat!

As you wait in line to enter the line, it’ll feel like you’re in a colonial outpost. You’ll pass artifacts, photos, and tools from the theme and period of the ride to get you in the right headspace. 

Your boat will pull up with your guide at the helm when it’s your turn. There are 15 boats in rotation, each with its memorable name (like Wamba Wanda ). 

Jungle Cruise FastPass+

FastPass+ was discontinued and replaced with Disney Genie in 2021. 

However, due to public outcry, it was announced in 2022 that FastPass would be coming back to the parks. At this point, it doesn’t appear to have been reinstated just yet.

Currently, you can use the Disney Genie service to get you through the queues faster with Lightning Lane entrances. However, Genie+ can no longer be pre-purchased– though you can still purchase through the app when you visit the park.

The ride has a long wooden bench on each side of the boat, so guests face each other and sit side by side. 

The bench doesn’t have a back, so if you lean back you’ll find yourself against the slightly curved side of the boat. 

Plexiglass dividers are placed between sections of the bench, allowing four or five people to fit within a section. If you have small children, you may be able to squeeze a couple more in. 

Once you step onto the boat, the skipper will welcome you and you’ll set sail down the river. 

You’ll encounter giant butterflies, Inspiration Falls, a beach shop called “Boats, Baits, and Bites”, an African rock python, and a Gorilla-raided camp– all before you head down the Nile River. 

In this new area, you’ll find African Elephants along with many other animals. You’ll pass a zebra watching a lion eat a member of its pack, and a group of lost safari goers hanging from a long pole, avoiding a black Rhino. 

After passing gaters, waterfalls, and a plane crash, the boat is threatened by angry hippos. Thankfully, the skipper will frighten them off. After seeing chimps raid a ship, it’s off to the next area! 

There, you’ll find yourself sailing into a temple damaged by an earthquake. Exotic animals like peacocks and a Bengal Tiger await! The ride will end just as you narrowly avoid being sprayed by a group of Indian Elephants. 

While the ride is quite cruisy, the fun of Jungle Cruise lies with the skipper. There is a script, but most skippers will bring their own flare to the show– keeping guests laughing and the energy high. 

The ride duration is about nine minutes long. 

Jungle Skipper Canteen

After experiencing the ride, consider continuing the adventure by stopping at Jungle Skipper Canteen. 

Here you can have a meal inspired by African, Latin, or Asian cuisine. Try Skipper Dan’s Dan Dan Noodles, “Hardy Har Char” Siu Pork, or Panna-Connie’s Congo Lime Delight. 

There’s an extensive kids’ menu with menu items such as Junior Skip’s Macaroni & Cheese, or Chef Tandaji’s Crispy Chicken. 

You’ll also find an extensive allergy-free menu here (as is the case throughout much of the Magic Kingdom), with allergy-free choices on apps, kids’ meals, entrees, and desserts. 

Feeling a little parched? Choose from the selection of fun tropical cocktails, as well as their large selection of beer and wine!

Two of the boats, Bomokandi Bertha and Wamba Wanda, have wheelchair-accessible lifts. Most wheelchairs, including motorized and some ECVs, can be accommodated by these boats. 

Guests in wheelchairs can choose to board the boat without their chair if able, leaving the chair at the dock. Alternatively, they can wait until one of the accessible boats arrives.

There are days when a sign language interpreter and Disney’s Handheld Devices are available. 

These feature Assistive Listening, which will amplify the sound through either headphones or an induction loop. Handheld Captioning is also available on these devices, displaying on-screen text.

Disney’s Handheld Devices are available for a fully-refundable $25 daily deposit at Guest Relations. Devices are on a first-come, first-served basis, and they recommend that you bring your own headphones or an induction loop for use.

All guests should take care as they step down onto the boat from the dock, as it can bob and lean slightly while boarding. The skipper or ride assistant can offer a hand if needed.

There are periods of darkness, and it’s possible to get damp from the mist near the waterfalls. 

There is an instance of gunfire sound effects, but guests can request that it’s not played if this will trouble someone at the party. 

Guests must remain seated at all times, including small children. The boat will bob some, and sea sickness is possible, but it is generally a pretty smooth ride. 

There is no age or height restriction. Babies and toddlers can ride on their parent’s laps or in strollers. 

Children under the age of 7 will need to be accompanied by someone at least 14 years of age.  

Jungle Cruise closes during inclement weather, as most of the attraction takes place outdoors. 

How long is the Jungle Cruise ride at Magic Kingdom?

The entire ride lasts for just over nine minutes. 

How long does the Jungle Cruise line take?

The average wait time is about one hour. It’s a good idea to get to this ride as soon as the gates open to avoid a long queue. 

During very hot days, the line can get uncomfortable and is best avoided if you are sensitive to this. 

What do you do on the Jungle Cruise?

Guests ride along on a river boat with a skipper at the helm and explore various locations. You’ll see plenty of animals up to no good, and people in plenty of trouble! 

The whole experience is fun and comical and suitable for the whole family. 

Is Jungle Cruise a good ride at Disney?

This ride is a classic, and it’s only been made better over the years. It’s great for children and toddlers, as there are no age or height restrictions. 

It’s a slow and steady ride, so its movement is not frightening. However, some young or sensitive children could be startled in the dark temple with snakes present, or by the gunshot sound effect. 

When is the best time to ride Jungle Cruise?

Surprisingly, Jungle Cruise is a great ride at night! You can still see everything, and it looks even more realistic. Some riders report that the skippers tend to have more fun during sundown.

Christmas is another fun time to ride Jungle Cruise– or “ Jingle Cruise” , as it’s called– as it gets a makeover for the season and a snowman attraction is added. 

The script even gets a rewrite, so it’s quite a different experience if you’ve already seen the original version!

Who is Jungle Cruise for?

Jungle Cruise is a blast for children but is also enjoyed by the young-at-heart. Some adults may find themselves rolling their eyes at their skipper’s cheesy lines, but it’s all part of the charm. 

The Jungle Cruise is a delightful ride for the ages of 1 to 100. 

Disney has created a fully immersive experience where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. 

They have taken careful measures to create a living jungle, keep the ride up-to-date, make it appealing to all– and have even hired slapstick skippers to keep you laughing! 

Whether it’s your first or hundredth time on Jungle Cruise, it’s always worth a visit.

How to Ride Jungle Cruise

Jungle Cruise has a Standby Line and Lightning Lane. There is no  Single Rider Line .

The Standby Line for Jungle Cruise is typically the lowest first thing in the morning and at the end of the evening. The middle of the day will see the longest lines with sustained wait times of over 60 minutes.

Jungle Cruise is not available during Early Theme Park Entry or Extended Evening Hours . So, if this ride is a priority for you, planning accordingly is a must.

D o I need to use Genie+ at Jungle Cruise?

Jungle Cruise is available with Genie+  and we highly recommend using it at this attraction.

Aside from Peter Pan’s Flight , the Jungle Cruise is the second most booked ride on Genie+ at the Magic Kingdom. It’s a highly-popular ride that many park guests make a must-do during their park day. Unless you hop on this ride first thing, you should plan to reserve a Genie+ time for later in the day.

Rider Switch/Child Swap

Jungle Cruise is for all ages and heights. Therefore, Rider Switch , the system that allows guests with small children to take turns riding bigger rides, while another person/people wait with the little one, is not offered for Jungle Cruise.

What to Expect When You Ride

The Jungle Cruise queue is completely outdoors, with most of the line covered from the sun. While the ride doesn’t have an interactive queue like many other attractions, there are plenty of sights and sounds to enjoy.

You will find the queue decorated with prior passenger cruise logs and journals to read over. Also as you get closer to the loading station you can watch the tour boats pulling into and leaving the loading dock.

The music in the queue is also fun, including listening to what the announcer has to say.

Ride Vehicles

The ride vehicles for Jungle Cruise are small river boats. There is seating around the entire interior of the boat for guests to sit. Each boat can accompany approximately 30 guests.

There is a small 6 inch gap you must step over and down into the boat. Most guests are able to board with little to no help. There is a pole to grab on to help stabilize your boarding process in addition to Cast Members who will assist guests as needed.

You will ride in the tour boat with other groups, but your party will always be seated together next to — or at least near to one another.

There are no safety restraints, seat belts or life vests. You simply sit down and ride around inside the boat.

Accessibility Information

Guests may remain in their wheelchair/ECV while on the Jungle Cruise. A select number of boats are wheelchair accessible and have space for a single wheelchair. This includes manual, power, or ECV.

The majority of wheelchair sizes have no problem fitting on the boats. There is a separate wheelchair accessible entrance where your party can wait to board their boat.

You’ll want to speak with a Cast Member at the attraction entrance (at the top of the path that leads to the attraction) for details and directions.

Sign language interpretation and assistive listening are also offered on the Jungle Cruise ride on certain days. To obtain a schedule listing exact days and times, visit Guest Relations in the park.

Motion Sickness

Jungle Cruise’s boats are slow-moving and don’t have any fast turns, so motion sickness seems very unlikely. That said, you are riding in a boat on the water. Feel free to check out our guide on motion sickness  that’s filled with additional information and tips.

On The Ride

Ride spoilers ahead!

Prepare to sail away on an adventure of a lifetime as your cruise boat arrives into the loading dock. After some brief safety guidelines and a clear to go, your Skipper starts the tour sailing your cruise boat away from the dock and into the jungle.

Your first cruise stop in the jungle will be the Amazon rainforest where it rains 365 days a year. Here you will see beautiful butterflies with an impressive wingspan and the rushing waters of Inspiration Falls.

Next the tour will embark to the depths of Africa on the Congo River. You will pass by your Skippers pet python snake and a camp being broken down by Gorillas.

Cruising over to Egypt your Skipper will take you to the infamous Nile River which spans about 4,000 miles. Capture photos of the African bull elephants among the boulders. Long neck cheetahs, zebras, giraffes and lions are seen resting amongst one another. A rhinoceros is seen trying to make his point, chasing a group of explorers up a pole.

Watch out for danger as you enter crocodile country. Sail past the impressive Schweitzer falls which is named after the famous Dr. Albert Falls.

You will enter a hippo pool which will require some expert navigation from your Skipper as you see another tour cruise boat that did not fare so well going through them. A family of chimpanzees is seen taking over another tour cruise boat.

Next up is what everyone came to see, the 8th wonder of the world — the backside of water!

Prepare for dark encounters as your cruise boat enters the Mekong River in the heart of Cambodia. Your Skipper will take you through an Asian jungle shrine where you will pass a 500 pound tiger, several cobra snakes, giant spiders, shiny gold artifacts, and Buddha statues.

As you exit the tunnel you will find yourself in the middle of an Indian elephant bathing pool. Feel free to take as many pictures as you like. Beware — these elephants have been known to spray the boat, so watch out!

There’s no visit to the jungle complete without a stop to see Trader Sam’s gift shop.

As your tour boat approaches the dock again wait on your Skipper to give the word to gather all your belongings and disembark.

Trust us when we say to fully experience this ride, you need to try it yourself because the Skippers add a whole new level to each attraction scene. Their puns and jokes are the point of the cruise.

Is Jungle Cruise Kid-Friendly?

Overall, Jungle Cruise is very kid-friendly, as all ages and heights are permitted to board and ride.

However, keep in mind some of the animals on the cruise are very realistic and may scare little ones. There is also a short scene in which the boat rides through a very dark, almost pitch-black cave with several animatronic snakes and tigers that could be scary for children.

Anyone riding with kids may want to tell them the animals aren’t real prior to riding.

Kids are also required to remain seated completely during the entire tour. There is no exchanging of kids from one parent to another while the ride is in motion. Due to the nature of this ride being open and on the water, the Skippers are very strict about this.

Strollers are not permitted on the Jungle Cruise boats. They can be left in the designated area near the attraction entrance or with a non-rider.

Jungle Cruise was one of the original attractions ready in 1971 on Magic Kingdom’s opening day. It was also an opening day attraction at Disneyland Park in California back in 1955.

Ironically, before becoming known for its laughs and silly jokes, the attraction as a whole was initially more of a serious tone with only a few jokes inserted here and there.

The original script for Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise was written by Winston Hibler and inspired by Disney’s True-Life Adventure African Lion film. This gave the ride its more serious and educational tone, but that all changed in the ’60s when Imagineer Marc Davis took over and turned the ride into what many know and love today.

During the holidays, Jungle Cruise receives a holiday overlay and becomes the “Jingle Cruise.” The ride format stays basically the same with the addition of fun holiday-themed jokes and pretty seasonal decorations.

Believe it or not, but the holiday Jingle Cruise actually hasn’t been around that long — only since 2013!

In January 2021, Disney announced that some much-needed changes were coming to the Jungle Cruise on both coasts. Those updates are now complete.

Some of the enhancements included incorporating an animatronic skipper, new characters (like Alberta Falls), adding new jokes (don’t worry, many of the classics remain), and freshening up the story by adding chimpanzees, new explorers being chased up the pole, and making the Skippers more of a focus.

Here was the concept art for these updates that were previously shared by Disney:

Most importantly, the outdated depictions and problematic scenes have been removed .

As Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Portfolio Executive Chris Beatty told D23, “This is not a re-envisioning of the entire attraction. It’s the Jungle Cruise you know and love, with the skippers still leading the way, and at the same time, we’re addressing the negative depictions of ‘natives.'”

This also means the removal of Trader Sam from the final scene of the ride. But he isn’t totally gone; Trader Sam is still part of the attraction in a unique way.

The final scene features a Lost & Found Gift Shop with a sign indicating that it is managed by Trader Sam (in place of the Trader Sam animatronic). As stated by Disney, “But, while he’s out lost and finding some new inventory, it’s the animals that get the last laugh!”

Other Fun Details

• Rumor has it that when you enter the hippo pool, you’ll see the back half of a plane on the right, and, apparently, the front half was used in the Casablanca scene in the now-permanently closed Great Movie Ride.
• The Jungle Cruise is not based on a movie, but it did inspire one. The new live-action Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt was released on July 30, 2021 giving nod to this classic attraction.
• Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen is a nearby Table Service restaurant themed after the Jungle Cruise. It has a unique menu, serves alcohol, and is just as fun as the attraction. Reservations are recommended.

Average Wait Times:  The average wait time for Jungle Cruise is around 30-60 minutes. During peak times, the wait can extend to over 90 minutes. The best times to ride with lower wait times are during early entry, right at park open, and in the evening shortly before park close.

Height Requirements:  There is no height requirement for Jungle Cruise. Guests of all ages and heights can ride.

Single Rider:  There is no single rider line offered for Jungle Cruise.

Ride Duration:  The total ride duration is approximately 10-12 minutes. This includes the boat ride itself along with loading and unloading time.

Genie+ and Lightning Lane:  Jungle Cruise is eligible for both Genie+ and individual Lightning Lane purchases, allowing guests to bypass part or all of the standby queue.

Rider Switch:  Since there is no height requirement, rider switch is not offered at Jungle Cruise.

DAS:  Guests with disabilities can utilize the Disney Disability Access Service (DAS) to receive a return time with shorter wait.

Location:  Jungle Cruise is located in Adventureland, just across from The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. Guests must take the path along the left side of the Carpets queue to access the Jungle Cruise queue and loading area.

Early Entry:  Jungle Cruise is not included as one of the early entry attractions for Magic Kingdom. It opens at the regular park opening time.

History and Design

The idea for the Jungle Cruise originated from Walt Disney’s love of adventure and nature documentaries. After traveling to South America and Africa in the 1940s, Walt was inspired to recreate the excitement of adventure tours down exotic jungle rivers.

In the late 1940s, Walt Disney Pictures began producing the True-Life Adventures documentary film series showcasing wildlife and nature. This inspired Walt to include a jungle river boat ride as the centerpiece of a new Adventureland themed land planned for Disneyland. Originally, Walt imagined that live animals would populate the river banks. However, animal specialists advised that real animals would be unpredictable and likely asleep during park hours.

So instead, Disney Imagineers led by Harper Goff designed audio-animatronic animals and indigenous villages to showcase along the river journey. The ride vehicles were also inspired by the 1951 film “The African Queen”, with boats designed by Harper Goff. The jungle foliage and landscaping was expertly crafted by Disney legend Bill Evans to resemble a lush, tropical jungle.

Construction on the Jungle Cruise began in 1954, with the ride building housed in a large boathouse situated along the man-made jungle river. The boathouse was themed to resemble an old British outpost and queue for the Jungle Navigation Company’s river tours. Bill Evans carefully selected tropical plants and trees to create a lush backdrop around the river, while animatronic animals were incorporated into various scenes.

Some early technical problems with animal figures led Walt Disney to bring on board legendary Disney animator Marc Davis in the early 1960s to enhance some scenes, including the addition of the elephant bathing pool and rhino chase up a tree. These helped inject more humor and whimsy into the ride experience. The skipper narration also gradually transformed over the years from a straight documentary style to a more humorous, pun-filled spiel.

Since opening at Magic Kingdom in 1971, the Jungle Cruise has seen a few refurbishments to upgrade show scenes as well as a seasonal holiday overlay called Jingle Cruise. In January 2021, Disney announced upcoming changes to remove negative depictions and instead highlight the skipper role as ambassadors of the Jungle Navigation Company. New scenes and characters were added in summer 2021 focused on a more positive portrayal of indigenous people. The new scenes expanded on the backstory of Alberta Falls, granddaughter of the company founder, as she takes the helm to lead adventures through the world’s exotic rivers.

The Ride Experience

The total experience of Jungle Cruise encompasses the queue, boarding, actual boat ride, and disembarking.

The Jungle Cruise queue is completely outdoors but has cover overhead from the sun in most parts. The line winds extensively through the boathouse so guests can take in the various artifacts, photos, gear, and journals depicting past Jungle Navigation Company expeditions. Nearer to the loading dock, guests can observe boats pulling in and skippers delivering their spiels. Music from the 1930s plays overhead throughout the queue, setting the adventure mood. The queue length varies greatly based on crowd levels. At peak capacity, it can take over an hour just to navigate through the queue from entrance to loading.

At the loading dock, guests board the 12-person Jungle Cruise boats after an announcement from the skipper. There is a small gap in between the dock and the boat to step over and down into the boat. Cast members are stationed to assist any guests needing extra help. The boats have bench seats running lengthwise along each side. Parties sit together, though specific seats cannot be guaranteed. Safety spiels remind guests to remain seated during the ride with arms and hands inside. No food, drinks, selfie sticks or flash photography are allowed since they can be distracting to the skipper and other guests.

As the boat departs the dock, the skipper introduces themself and begins their memorized, yet often ad-libbed, script full of cheesy puns. The boat passes through the man-made rivers of Asia, Africa and South America encountering animatronic animals and scenic views along the way. The silly gags continue with the skipper pointing out sights like the backside of water or Trader Sam the head salesman. Guests sail past a herd of elephants at a watering hole, hungry hippos, lions snacking on a zebra, angry rhinos, and snakes, gorillas, butterflies and more. The 10-minute journey culminates floating through a ruined Cambodian temple with tigers, cobras, and chanting ancient voices overheard in the darkness before returning to civilization at the dock.

Once the boat pulls back into the loading dock, the skipper instructs guests when it’s safe to gather any belongings and carefully disembark the vessel. This concludes the total experience, spanning anywhere from 12-15 minutes on average.

Here are some helpful tips for making the most of your Jungle Cruise experience:

• Arrive early. Ride first thing in the morning or late evening for lowest waits. Utilize early entry if eligible.
• Bring mini fans/misters for the queue or umbrellas for shade. Hydrate before and during waits.
• Engage with the queue theming. Read posted journals and notices throughout the line.
• Listen to the safety spiel before riding and supervise children to avoid any incidents.
• Position small children where they can best see the animals but won’t be scared.
• Go along with the skipper’s script and laugh at the corny jokes. Playing along enhances the experience.
• For the best view, sit on the right side on the way out and the left side on the return trip.
• Ride multiple times and enjoy different bits of commentary each trip.
• Visit at night for a different vibe and to see flickering firelight reflecting off the water.

Country Bear Jamboree Debuts July 17, 2024 | Walt Disney World

The Jingle Cruise overlay first debuted at Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in 2013 for the holiday season. It has returned seasonally since then, except for 2017 when Disneyland did not run it. The ride experience remains largely the same, but with the addition of Christmas decorations throughout the queue and on the boats. This includes garlands, wreaths, holiday lights, presents, trees, etc.

The skipper script is updated to include new holiday-themed jokes and puns. For example, pointing out a “gift-wrapped” crocodile or a “fruitcake disaster.” Some animatronic animals are given festive accessories like Santa hats or reindeer antlers. The trapped safari scene at the pole becomes a nod to the North Pole. Holiday music is added to the ride’s soundtrack, including Christmas carols and instrumental Disney songs.

The backstory is that the homesick skippers have decorated the ride to get into the holiday spirit and spread some seasonal cheer. While the overlay has expanded and improved over the years, the 2018 version at Walt Disney World is considered the most detailed and immersive one yet. The Jingle Cruise brings a delightfully festive seasonal twist to a classic Disney ride that many guests look forward to each holiday season. It runs from early November through early January.

The Jungle Cruise appears at several Disney Parks worldwide with varying differences.

Disneyland:  The original Disneyland version features a similar layout but with more show scenes crammed into their compact Adventureland. The indoor portion features a unique tiger attack and dynamite explosion not found in Florida. Their holiday overlay is also more extensive. However, Walt Disney World’s ride feels more immersive with the expanded jungle landscapes between scenes.

Tokyo Disneyland:  Tokyo’s version has a unique queue and station set inside an elaborate boathouse. Their ride includes an eruptive volcano scene and elaborate ancient temple absent from the Magic Kingdom attraction.

Hong Kong Disneyland:  Hong Kong’s Jungle River Cruise queue and boathouse are more basic in design. Their ride is performed in three languages and features a unique giant spider scene. However, the narration delivers information more straight, lacking the humorous skipper jokes.

The Jungle Cruise is an outdoor boat cruise through Disney's man-made jungle waterways. You'll encounter animatronic elephants, lions, rhinos and hippos in addition to the hostile natives. 

Your boat tour through the jungle will be on one of 15 cruise boats with your very own skipper who will tell jokes throughout your tour (Note: if you go on the Jungle Cruise more than once its highly likely you'll hear the same 'jokes' - they have used them for years). 

The tour guides are what make this attraction so fun with their witty banter with guests whilst attempting to stear the boat around the narrow river, being careful not to get you soaked at the waterfall!

Towards the end of the ride you pass through a dark cambodian temple where tigers watch over the ancient treasures. When you emerge you head back to civilisation, hopefully not too scared or wet!

Jungle Cruise Ride Tips

In one part of the ride you'll notice what appears to be a downed airplane. The other half of this airplane can be found in The Great Movie Ride in Hollywood Studios, it is used for the Casablanca scene!

The Jungle Cruise is a Disney classic ride where guests take a steam boat ride with The Jungle Navigation Co. through the treacherous water of the Amazon (South America), Nile (Africa) and the Mekong rivers (Asia).  

The ride starts out with guests boarding one of the replica 1930’s British river tramp steam boats that have names like the one below called “Senegal Sal”.  Once greeted by your zany guide, your adventure begins.

Along the way your tour will encounter lions, gorillas, baboons, snakes, alligators, elephants, hippos and the occasional headhunter.  You’ll even see another group that literally gets run up a tree stand.  But don’t be afraid, you guide will take you the safer waters.

What makes the trip is the guide who are among the most entertaining cast members is all the Disney parks.  They really get into character and their jokes & antics are all part of the fun along this 10-minute ride. 

While the tour it surely based on a general script, the ad-libbing of the different cast members really adds to the character of the ride.  We’ve been on the Jungle Cruise dozens of times over the years and we can easily say that is quite different every time.

As usual, Disney has done an excellent job of theming and guests feel like they are in the middle of a jungle.  One of the coolest parts of the ride is when your tour boat goes behind the waterfall (you won’t get wet).  And about mid-way through the trek you guide takes you deep into a forgotten ancient temple – what out for the tiger that lurks in the darkness.

The Jungle Cruise is located in the Adventureland section of the Magic Kingdom just adjacent to Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.  This attraction first opened in 1971 as one of the opening day attractions at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

The Jungle Cruise is suitable for all ages (other than seeing the lions eat a zebra) and there are no height restrictions.  It is a fairly slow ride but a bit dark when entering the Asian temple.

FastPass+ is offered and highly recommended as wait times will exceed 30 to 60 minutes on a typical summer day.  There is some shade in the queue line while helps in the heat of the day.  If you can’t get a FastPass+, try to visit this experience early in the morning before the crowd levels get too high.

Jingle Cruise

During the holiday season the Jungle Cruise is transformed into the “Jingle Cruise” and the attraction is fully decorated with the spirit of the season.  There is even a new holiday themed “script” that differs from the traditional one – the skippers really get into the holiday spirit.

So if you find yourself at the Magic Kingdom around Christmas time, make sure you see the “Jingle Cruise” as the holiday decor is only in place for a limited time.

Did the Jungle Cruise Ever Sink?

During early 2020 there were a number of reports that the Bomokandi Bertha sunk during the middle of a Jungle Cruise ride.  While there are rumors that this was a publicity stunt to promote the “Jungle Cruise” movie with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.  

We have seen the photos on Twitter and it does not look like it was staged as the boat is pretty well submerged.  It’s probably a good thing that water is only about 5 feet deep and the shore is just a short distance away!

In addition to the Bomokandi Bertha, we’ve heard that the Sankuru Sadie also had sunk back in 2004 but details on this are a little sketchy as the boat returned to service shortly afterwards.

Walt Disney World says the latest alterations to Jungle Cruise, an original ride at Magic Kingdom, are now complete. There are cosmetic changes and storyline enhancements on the shore, but the antics of the famed skippers remain intact.

New animatronic creatures find new ways to get into trouble during the revamped Jungle Cruise attraction at Magic Kingdom.

Some sections of the revised Jungle Cruise ride have been in place at Magic Kingdom for weeks, including this new "up-a-tree" iteration.

Disney World posted on its Twitter account this week that work is complete on the Jungle Cruise makeover, which had not forced the ride to close for day guests. New scenes were plopped in over several weeks, and some affected areas were tarped over during the transition.

Unless you’re a headhunter fanatic or someone steadfastly against change, the enjoyment level for Jungle Cruise should be similar before and after the adjustments.

New things to see include a lot of monkey business, with animatronic animals playing with munitions, breaking into boxes of live insects and taking over a partially submerged vessel. A replaced scene has new characters scurrying up a tree to avoid the horn of a rhino.

Near the end of the ride, Trader Sam’s spot is now the lost-and-found/gift shop location, and there’s a lot to browse through while floating by, courtesy of Walt Disney Imagineering, including hats, phonographs, radios, oars, canteens, fans, socks and a disputed pair of heart-print boxer shorts. Plus, a little monkey snaps the “official cruise photo” with a flash.

There also are additions to the themed queue area and signs.

As with many theme-park additions, there are associated subtractions. Now missing are headhunter figures and savage references.

“Plussing and re-imagining the experience in Jungle Cruise was, to us, a unique opportunity to basically tell a story that does not perpetuate any stereotypes and to make sure that it’s reflective of our guests in a very positive way, but it also gave us an opportunity to salute the skippers that are critical to the experience that guests have,” Carmen Smith, executive creative development and inclusion strategies for Walt Disney Imagineering, said in a video on the official Disney Parks Blog earlier this year.

Changes to Jungle Cruise were announced in January. The alterations kicked for the Disneyland version of the ride this summer, which was updated while the resort was closed as a pandemic precaution.

The monkeys give skippers new fodder. On a Friday morning ride, there was a reference to “hot-air baboons.”

The Jungle Cruise population continues to feature a menagerie of automated animals, including zebras, lions, hippos, elephants and snakes. Humans on board also supply entertainment with groans for puns and cheers for the long-running “backside of water” joke. A kid in a Pluto cap Friday gave rounds of slow applause to skipper bits, while another covered her ears until approaching a tiger in the temple. “It’s a bear!” she exclaimed.

The journey ended with a skipper joke about if you leave your kids behind, they might be incorporated into “it’s a small world” and forced to learn songs in multiple languages.

On the pandemic front, the clear plastic sheet between skippers and Jungle Cruisers remains in place. Disney World currently is not requiring face coverings in outdoor settings, and the Jungle Cruise queue is open-air; however, the queue is tight, winding and sized to the proportions of Americans of 1971, so there are a lot of face-to-face-to-face encounters.

Disney also plans extensive renovations to Splash Mountain rides at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, which will result in storylines based on characters from the 2009 film “The Princess and the Frog.” No timelines have been given for that project.

The History and Evolution of the Disney’s Jungle Cruise

Since it opened in Disneyland Park in July of 1955, Jungle Cruise has become one of the most iconic attractions in Disney’s theme park catalogue. Everything from the distinctive ride vehicles, comical tableaus, animatronic animals, and even the purposely over-the-top skipper spiel have become iconic elements of the Disney theme park experience, explaining why the Jungle Cruise has been cloned to nearly every Disney resort around the world.

However, despite its beloved stature, the attraction has met its fair share of controversy over the years, which has led to numerous changes, including a major refurbishment in 2021 .

To analyze this attraction’s controversial history, we must first look at its origins, years before Disneyland was constructed.

The origins.

The origins of the Jungle Cruise can be traced back to the late 1940s, when Walt Disney Pictures began production on their True-Life Adventures series. Beginning with Seal Island in 1948, these somewhat staged wildlife documentaries followed various groups of animals in their natural habitats. The series was so successful with movie-goers and critics that it eventually evolved from two-reel shorts to full-length documentary films that quickly became a cornerstone of Walt Disney Studios.  

Guests would view the animals from skipper-guided ride-vehicles modeled after the titular boat from the 1951 hit film The African Queen, while traveling through a jungle designed by Disneyland landscape extraordinaire Bill Evans.  

Welcome to the Jungle

Jungle Cruise opened with the rest of Disneyland on July 17, 1955. However, a modern guest would be hard-pressed to recognize much of the attraction. Sure they would be familiar with Goff’s general concept, and if they squinted they could imagine how the rather light jungle Evans planted would grow into the lush greenery seen today, but many iconic elements of the attraction would be absent. There was no ad-libbed humor from the skippers, who played the entire experience straight. In fact, there was no humor period.  

The Jungle Cruise, like Disneyland overall, was a massive success upon its opening, quickly becoming an integral part of American pop culture. However, as the park’s first decade came to a close, Walt Disney felt his park needed some new blood. According to legend, he once overheard a child ask his mother to ride the Jungle Cruise and was aghast when the mother responded that they’d ridden it last time and didn’t need to again. Whether this story is apocryphal or not, in the early 1960s Walt brought over animator Marc Davis from the Studios to “plus up” some of Disneyland’s attractions.  

One of the first attractions Davis – who would go on to become one of the company’s most influential Imagineers – worked on was Jungle Cruise. A visual comedian by nature, Davis decided to liven up the attraction by adding the playful elephant pool and comical trapped safari sequences.

These comedic elements in-turn influenced the ride’s skipper narration, which became more and more comical over the years. Davis’ changes led to the attraction becoming even more popular.  

Disney World’s Jungle Cruise

The Jungle Cruise’s status as one of Disney’s premier attractions was further solidified when a version of the ride opened with Walt Disney World and Magic Kingdom in 1971.

The Orlando version of the ride was similar to its Anaheim counterpart, though not a direct clone, and served the same purpose as the anchor attraction of the park’s Adventureland section.

Jungle Cruise International

A near-direct clone of the Magic Kingdom version of the attraction opened with Tokyo Disneyland in 1983, but when Disneyland Paris, then known as EuroDisney, opened in 1992, the park became the first “castle park” not to feature a Jungle Cruise on opening day. This was due partially to the cold French climate not being hospitable to water rides and partially because there were several knockoff Jungle Cruises already built at various French amusement parks.

Disneyland Levels Up

While these alternate versions of the Jungle Cruise were being built around the world, the Disneyland original continued to be “plussed” over the years. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, various new animals and show-scenes were added to the attraction. The biggest changes up to that point came in 1994, when the attraction was rerouted and shortened to make room for the then-upcoming Indiana Jones Adventure attraction. In addition, the ride (and the entirety of Adventureland) were rethemed to be set in the 1930s to tie into Indy.  

While these changes were substantial, they were nothing compared to the original plans , which were going to see a portion of the Jungle Cruise take place inside the Indiana Jones show building, as part of a plan to build a massive complex that would house four attractions.  

Holiday Overlays

Following these mid-90s refurbishments, the Jungle Cruise continued to be one of Disney’s marquee attractions. As a testament to said importance, in 2013, both American versions of the attraction were given a holiday overlay and temporarily renamed The Jingle Cruise.

The overlay was so successful that it was greatly expanded for 2014, and remained in both parks through 2016. For reasons unknown, Disneyland dropped The Jingle Cruise from its Holiday offerings in 2017, though the overlay remains a Magic Kingdom staple to this day.  

Controversy in the Jungle

Despite Jungle Cruise’s ongoing popularity, in recent decades the attraction has become controversial due to its purported negative depictions of native people, specifically the “headhunter” party as well as the Trader Sam “head salesman” character.  

In January 2021,  Disney announced that it would be making significant story changes to the Jungle Cruise at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World to alleviate these issues. Carmen Smith, creative development and inclusion strategies executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, explained the changes in a statement to the Los Angeles Times , saying:  

As Imagineers, it is our responsibility to ensure experiences we create and stories we share reflect the voices and perspectives of the world around us. With Jungle Cruise, we’re bringing to life more of what people love – the humor and wit of our incredible skippers — while making needed updates.

Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger added , “The exciting changes we’re making to one of Disney’s most popular classic attractions, Jungle Cruise, reflect our commitment to creating unparalleled experiences that reflect, not only the best in storytelling, but also the values and rich diversity of our world.”

As part of these announcements, Disney made it clear that these changes to the attraction were not going to be related to the upcoming film based on the attraction.

Said film, simply titled Jungle Cruise , was released in July of 2021. The film starred Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Édgar Ramírez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti and was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. It was such a hit, a sequel is already in the works.

Attraction starring Disney's first Black princess replaces ride based on film many viewed as racist

ORLANDO, Fla. — A new attraction starring the first Black Disney princess is opening at the company’s U.S. theme park resorts, and some Disney followers see it as a fitting replacement to a former ride based on a movie that contained racist tropes.

The new theme park attraction updates Tiana’s storyline from the 2009 animated film “The Princess and the Frog” and is opening this year in the space  previously occupied by Splash Mountain . The water ride had been themed to “Song of the South,” a 1946 Disney movie filled with racist cliches about African Americans and plantation life.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure keeps Splash Mountain’s DNA as a log-flume ride, but it’s infused with music, scenery and animatronic characters inspired by “Princess,” set in 1920s New Orleans. It opens to the public later this month at Walt Disney World in Florida and at Disneyland in California later this year.

“For little Black girls, Tiana has meant a lot. When a little child can see somebody who looks like them, that matters,” said Neal Lester, an English professor at Arizona State University, who has written about Tiana.

Disney’s announcement that it would transform its longstanding Splash Mountain ride into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was made in June 2020 following the social justice protests sparked by the murder  of George Floyd in Minneapolis  police custody. At the time, Disney said the change had already been in the works. But it came as companies across the U.S. were reconsidering or renaming  decades-old brands  amid worldwide protests.

The “Song of the South” film is a mix of live action, cartoons and music featuring an older Black man who works at a plantation and tells fables about talking animals to a white city boy. The film has been criticized for its racist stereotypes, hasn’t been released in theaters in decades and isn’t available on the company’s streaming service Disney+.

Disney has been criticized for racist tropes in films made in earlier decades. The crow characters from the 1941 film “Dumbo” and the King Louie character from 1967’s “The Jungle Book” were viewed as African American caricatures. The depiction of Native Americans in the 1953 movie “Peter Pan” and the Siamese cats — often deemed as Asian stereotypes — from the 1955 film “Lady and the Tramp” also have been derided.

Not everyone is sold on the belief that opening a ride based on Tiana’s story solves Disney’s past problematic racial depictions.

By refurbishing Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure instead of dismantling the attraction completely, Disney has linked “Song of the South” with “The Princess and the Frog.” Both are fantasies that are silent, for the most part, on the racial realities of the segregated eras they depict, said Katie Kapurch, an English professor at Texas State University who has written widely about Disney.

“We might see the impulse to replace rather than dismantle or build anew as a metaphor for structural racism, too,” Kapurch said. “Again, this is unintentional on Disney’s part, but the observation gets to the heart of how Disney reflects America back to itself.”

Imagineers who design the Disney rides are always attempting to look at the attractions with fresh eyes and ways to tell new stories “so that everybody feels included,” said Carmen Smith, a senior vice president for creative development at Walt Disney Imagineering.

“We never want to perpetuate stereotypes or misconceptions,” Smith said Monday. “Our intention is to tell great stories.”

It’s also important for the Imagineers to tell a variety of stories for its global audience, said Charita Carter, an executive creative producer at Walt Disney Imagineering who oversaw the development of the attraction.

“Society does change, and we develop different sensibilities,” Carter said. “We focus our stories differently depending what our society needs.”

The transformation from Splash Mountain to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is one of several recalibrations at the entertainment giant’s theme parks for rides whose storylines are considered antiquated or offensive.

In 2021, Disney announced it would remodel Jungle Cruise, one of the original Disney parks’ rides, which had been been criticized in years past for being racially insensitive because of its depiction of animatronic Indigenous people as savages or headhunters. Three years before that, Disney eliminated a “Bride Auction” scene, deemed offensive since it depicted women lining up for auction, from its “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride.

It’s a positive step for Disney to have a ride based on a character from a background not seen in previous versions of Disney princesses replacing an attraction from a film steeped in racist tropes since “representation matters,” Lester said.

“Disney is first and foremost about money and getting people into the park, and you can make money, still have representation and be aware of social justice history and make everyone feel like they belong there,” Lester said.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A new attraction starring the first Black Disney princess is opening at the company’s U.S. theme park resorts, and some Disney followers see it as a fitting replacement to a former ride based on a movie that contained racist tropes.

The new theme park attraction updates Tiana’s storyline from the 2009 animated film “The Princess and the Frog” and is opening this year in the space previously occupied by Splash Mountain . The water ride had been themed to “Song of the South,” a 1946 Disney movie filled with racist cliches about African Americans and plantation life.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure keeps Splash Mountain’s DNA as a log-flume ride, but it’s infused with music, scenery and animatronic characters inspired by “Princess,” set in 1920s New Orleans. It opens to the public later this month at Walt Disney World in Florida and at Disneyland in California later this year.

“For little Black girls, Tiana has meant a lot. When a little child can see somebody who looks like them, that matters,” said Neal Lester, an English professor at Arizona State University, who has written about Tiana.

Disney’s announcement that it would transform its longstanding Splash Mountain ride into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was made in June 2020 following the social justice protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody. At the time, Disney said the change had already been in the works. But it came as companies across the U.S. were reconsidering or renaming decades-old brands amid worldwide protests.

AP correspondent Margie Szaroleta reports Disney theme parks are rebranding a ride that had been associated with a movie that contained racist cliches.

The “Song of the South” film is a mix of live action, cartoons and music featuring an older Black man who works at a plantation and tells fables about talking animals to a white city boy. The film has been criticized for its racist stereotypes, hasn’t been released in theaters in decades and isn’t available on the company’s streaming service Disney+.

Disney has been criticized for racist tropes in films made in earlier decades. The crow characters from the 1941 film “Dumbo” and the King Louie character from 1967’s “The Jungle Book” were viewed as African American caricatures. The depiction of Native Americans in the 1953 movie “Peter Pan” and the Siamese cats — often deemed as Asian stereotypes — from the 1955 film “Lady and the Tramp” also have been derided.

Not everyone is sold on the belief that opening a ride based on Tiana’s story solves Disney’s past problematic racial depictions.

By refurbishing Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure instead of dismantling the attraction completely, Disney has linked “Song of the South” with “The Princess and the Frog.” Both are fantasies that are silent, for the most part, on the racial realities of the segregated eras they depict, said Katie Kapurch, an English professor at Texas State University who has written widely about Disney.

“We might see the impulse to replace rather than dismantle or build anew as a metaphor for structural racism, too,” Kapurch said. “Again, this is unintentional on Disney’s part, but the observation gets to the heart of how Disney reflects America back to itself.”

Imagineers who design the Disney rides are always attempting to look at the attractions with fresh eyes and ways to tell new stories “so that everybody feels included,” said Carmen Smith, a senior vice president for creative development at Walt Disney Imagineering.

“We never want to perpetuate stereotypes or misconceptions,” Smith said Monday. “Our intention is to tell great stories.”

It’s also important for the Imagineers to tell a variety of stories for its global audience, said Charita Carter, an executive creative producer at Walt Disney Imagineering who oversaw the development of the attraction.

“Society does change, and we develop different sensibilities,” Carter said. “We focus our stories differently depending what our society needs.”

The transformation from Splash Mountain to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is one of several recalibrations at the entertainment giant’s theme parks for rides whose storylines are considered antiquated or offensive.

In 2021, Disney announced it would remodel Jungle Cruise, one of the original Disney parks’ rides, which had been been criticized in years past for being racially insensitive because of its depiction of animatronic Indigenous people as savages or headhunters. Three years before that, Disney eliminated a “Bride Auction” scene, deemed offensive since it depicted women lining up for auction, from its “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride.

It’s a positive step for Disney to have a ride based on a character from a background not seen in previous versions of Disney princesses replacing an attraction from a film steeped in racist tropes since “representation matters,” Lester said.

“Disney is first and foremost about money and getting people into the park, and you can make money, still have representation and be aware of social justice history and make everyone feel like they belong there,” Lester said. ___

Resident Disneyland Cat Steals the Show After Being Spotted on 'Jungle Cruise' Ride

W hether or not you've visited Disney World in Florida or Disneyland in California, you probably already know that they're both theme parks, with a good chunk of their offerings taking place outdoors. And though if you're a human, you'll need a ticket to get in, the same doesn't exactly apply to wild animals. On both coasts, this means you'll see plenty of squirrels, birds, ducks, and sometimes, even rabbits walking the grounds of the park, looking for snacks that visitors have dropped. 

But in California, there's one animal experience that simply doesn't happen in Florida, and that phenomenon is a little something called The Disneyland Cats. The cats live at Disney, basically, with cast members taking care of them, and are often seen wandering around. And in the case of the situation that was unfolding in this TikTok video, sometimes, that means you could spot them on a ride! 

On Wednesday, June 12, @danny_mcduck shared footage of a cat walking around the Jungle Cruise ride at Disneyland, completely unbothered by the giant (fake) animals all around him and the boats floating past. Then again, if he spends most of his time hanging out at the park, this is all just home to him, so it's simply no big deal!

It's amazing that the cat is on the ride, though. For as many times as I've visited Disneyland and have spotted the cats myself, I've never seen this happen; usually, they're just walking around near bushes and trees, minding their own business.

Maybe this cat just has some main character energy, though — and let's be real, everyone must have been totally delighted to see him roaming around when they were on the ride! 

More About the Disneyland Cats

According to Inside the Magic, there are about 200 feral cats who live inside the Disneyland gates. This goes back to the '50s, shortly after Disneyland's opening. Though it's not 100% clear what happened to lead to the cats calling Disneyland home, legend has it that Walt Disney adopted them all and made them cast members so he could treat them for fleas and keep them around.

As it turns out, the cats served an important purpose at the parks: They were able to keep the rodent population at bay (except for Minnie and Mickey, of course). And since they're skittish around humans, the cats stayed mostly hidden during the day and get rid of the rats at night.

This is basically what's been happening since, though some of the cats (like the one in this TikTok video) are getting just a bit more bold about exploring during the daylight hours! But when that happens, Disneyland allows a cast member to adopt the cat and bring them home.

Disney has taken on the responsibility of vaccinating, spaying, and neutering all of their cats, along with providing veterinary care and making sure everyone is fed and happy. 

Next time you're there, keep an eye out — you might just see a kitty lurking. Maybe even on Jungle Cruise! 

National Outlet Confirms Iconic Disney World Ride Is Gone, Forever

A National Publication has posted the confirmation that many Walt Disney World fans were hoping would never come to fruition.

Disney World, the iconic theme park in Florida , has long been a place where dreams come true, and magic feels tangible. For decades, it has delighted millions with its array of imaginative rides and attractions.

However, over the years, fans have often been gripped by the fear that some of these beloved rides might be shut down. Rumors have persistently swirled about the potential demise of classic attractions like the Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, and even Peter Pan’s Flight.

The Haunted Mansion is one of Disney World’s most iconic attractions, having first opened its doors to the spook-seeking public in 1971. The ride’s blend of eerie ambiance, humorous ghostly characters, and state-of-the-art special effects has cemented its place in the hearts of Disney fans. Despite its popularity, rumors have periodically emerged suggesting that The Haunted Mansion might be closed or significantly altered . These fears, however, have proven to be unfounded.

The ride remains a cornerstone of Liberty Square, continuously drawing long lines and rave reviews.

Another ride that has often been the subject of closure rumors is Jungle Cruise. Since its debut in 1971, this attraction has taken guests on a comedic riverboat tour through various jungle landscapes, filled with animatronic animals and wisecracking skippers.

In recent years, Disney has updated Jungle Cruise to address “cultural sensitivities,” ensuring that it remains relevant and respectful while preserving its adventurous spirit. Despite the updates, fears of its closure persist among fans. However, Disney has shown a clear commitment to preserving this ride, recognizing its importance as a classic, family-friendly adventure.

Peter Pan’s Flight has been enchanting Disney park guests since the opening day of Disney World. This dark ride takes visitors on a magical journey over London and into Neverland, following the adventures of Peter Pan, Wendy, and the Darling siblings.

The ride’s innovative use of suspended vehicles and immersive scenes has made it a perennial favorite. Rumors about its potential closure have circulated for years, often fueled by the ride’s frequent refurbishments. Yet, each refurbishment has only served to enhance the experience, ensuring that Peter Pan’s Flight continues to captivate new generations of Disney fans.

While fears about the closure of many iconic rides have proven baseless, one significant change did occur with the closure of Splash Mountain. This log-flume ride, based on the controversial 1946 film Song of the South , was beloved for its catchy songs, engaging story, and thrilling drops. Despite its popularity, Disney decided to reimagine the attraction, acknowledging the problematic elements of its source material.

In its place, Disney introduced Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a ride inspired by the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog . While some fans were excited about the change, others were skeptical. Many of them felt to be proven right following the release of the POV ride through of the attraction.

Just recently, USA Today’s Even Chen previewed the ride, confirming that there are no traces of Splash Mountain left in the attraction.

“Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a feel-good ride” she said. “Unlike “The Princess and the Frog,” the ride has no villains, like Dr. Facilier. Guests with little ones who are scared of the dark should be aware that it gets quite dark for multiple stretches, but there’s nothing else to be afraid of. Even the big drop is more thrilling than frightening. Lively music plays the whole time, and the bayou critters guests see along the way are as endearing as Louis the alligator from the film.”

While the Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, and Peter Pan’s Flight continue to thrive, demonstrating that Disney values the history and nostalgia associated with its classic rides, other rides have met their demise at the hands of the company. While the ride hasn’t officially opened yet, it will be interesting to see what the overall reaction is.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to open on June 28, 2024. The attraction will only be available by Virtual Queue and Individual Lightning Lane purchase. Both of these functions can be found on the My Disney Experience app in the same section where you can book and purchase Disney Genie+ selections.

About a year ago, I happened upon this statement about the Monitor in the Harvard Business Review – under the charming heading of “do things that don’t interest you”:

“Many things that end up” being meaningful, writes social scientist Joseph Grenny, “have come from conference workshops, articles, or online videos that began as a chore and ended with an insight. My work in Kenya, for example, was heavily influenced by a Christian Science Monitor article I had forced myself to read 10 years earlier. Sometimes, we call things ‘boring’ simply because they lie outside the box we are currently in.”

If you were to come up with a punchline to a joke about the Monitor, that would probably be it. We’re seen as being global, fair, insightful, and perhaps a bit too earnest. We’re the bran muffin of journalism.

But you know what? We change lives. And I’m going to argue that we change lives precisely because we force open that too-small box that most human beings think they live in.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908.

We have a mission beyond circulation, we want to bridge divides. We’re about kicking down the door of thought everywhere and saying, “You are bigger and more capable than you realize. And we can prove it.”
